Abstract
The reaction of the stannyl phosphaketene (Nacnac)SnPCO 1 (Nacnac = CH{(CMe)(2,6-iPr2C6H3N)}2) with B(C6F5)3 produced the 1,4-addition product of (Nacnac)SnPCO(B(C6F5)3). However, the corresponding reactions in the presence of dimethyl maleate, diisopropyl fumarate or diethyl-but-2-ynedioate gave [2+2] addition yielding four-membered phosphacycles, ((Nacnac)Sn(MeO2C))CHPC(OB(C6F5)3)CH(CO2Me), [(C6F5)3B)PC(OSn)C(CO2Me)CH(CO2Me)]2, (Nacnac)Sn(iPrO2C)CC(OAl(C6F5)3)P[CH(CO2iPr)CH2(CO2iPr)]CH(CO2iPr), and (Nacnac)SnP (EtO2CCC(CO2Et))CO(B(C6F5)3), respectively. In contrast, the corresponding reaction of phenylacetylene gave the FLP-addition product (Nacnac)SnOC(P)C(Ph)CH(B(C6F5)3). Collectively, this reactivity demonstrates that the stannyl phosphaketene 1 can act as a synthon for P-analogues of β-lactam derivatives.

Abstract
A number of stable group 6 metal complexes bearing 2,4,6-oxy functionalised 1,3,5-triphosphinines, phosphorus containing heterocyclic ligands with a central C3P3 core, were synthesised such that a complete series of [M{P3C3(OX)3}(CO)3] compounds is obtained [M = Cr(0), Mo(0), W(0); X = H, SitBuPh2, B(ipc)2]. In all complexes, the triphosphinine coordinates in a η6-binding mode via the delocalized 6π-system of the ring. The ligand properties can be tuned by changing the substituent on the oxygen centre. The π-electron accepting properties of the ligand increases in the following order: P3C3(OH)3 < P3C3(OSitBuPh2)3 < P3C3(OB(ipc)2)3. This trend is reflected in the structures determined by X-ray crystallography, and the ν(CO) stretching frequencies determined by IR spectroscopy. The collected data raise questions with respect to the frequently made assumption that phosphinines act as stronger π-acceptors with respect to arenes and thereby deplete electron density at the metal centres. With P3C3(OH)3 as an η6-coordinated ligand further molecules can be coordinated in the second coordination sphere via hydrogen bonds, which may be of interest for the construction of coordination polymers.

Abstract
The application of an alkyne cyclotrimerization regime with an [Fe(salen)]2‐μ‐oxo (1) catalyst to triphenylmethylphosphaalkyne (2) yields gram‐scale quantities of 2,4,6‐tris(triphenylmethyl)‐Dewar‐1,3,5‐triphosphabenzene (3). Bulky lithium salt LiHMDS facilitates a rearrangement of 3 to the 1,3,5‐triphosphabenzene valence isomer (3′), which subsequently undergoes an intriguing phosphorus migration reaction to form the ring‐contracted species (3′′). Density functional theory calculations provide a plausible mechanism for this rearrangement. Given the stability of 3, a diverse array of unprecedented transformations was investigated. We report novel crystallographically characterized products of successful nucleophilic/electrophilic addition and protonation/oxidation reactions.

Abstract
Over the past decade, the reactivity of 2-phosphaethynolate (OCP-), a heavier analogue of the cyanate anion, has been the subject of momentous interest in the field of modern organometallic chemistry. It is used as a precursor to novel phosphorus-containing heterocycles and as a ligand in decarbonylative processes, serving as a synthetic equivalent of a phosphinidene derivative. This perspective aims to describe advances in the reactivities of phosphaethynolate and arsaethynolate anions (OCE-; E = P, As) with main-group element, transition metal, and f-block metal scaffolds. Further, the unique structures and bonding properties are discussed based on spectroscopic and theoretical studies.

Abstract
A low-spin and mononuclear vanadium complex, (Me nacnac)V(CO)(η2 -P≡Ct Bu) (2) (Me nacnac- =[ArNC(CH3 )]2 CH, Ar=2,6-i Pr2 C6 H3 ), was prepared upon treatment of the vanadium neopentylidyne complex (Me nacnac)V≡Ct Bu(OTf) (1) with Na(OCP)(diox)2.5 (diox=1,4-dioxane), while the isoelectronic ate-complex [Na(15-crown-5)]{([ArNC(CH2 )]CH[C(CH3 )NAr])V(CO)(η2 -P≡Ct Bu)} (4), was obtained via the reaction of Na(OCP)(diox)2.5 and ([ArNC(CH2 )]CH[C(CH3 )NAr])V≡Ct Bu(OEt2 ) (3) in the presence of crown-ether. Computational studies suggest that the P-atom transfer proceeds by [2+2]-cycloaddition of the P≡C bond across the V≡Ct Bu moiety, followed by a reductive decarbonylation to form the V-C≡O linkage. The nature of the electronic ground state in diamagnetic complexes, 2 and 4, was further investigated both theoretically and experimentally, using a combination of density functional theory (DFT) calculations, UV/Vis and NMR spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry, X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) measurements, and comparison of salient bond metrics derived from X-ray single-crystal structural characterization. In combination, these data are consistent with a low-valent vanadium ion in complexes 2 and 4. This study represents the first example of a metathesis reaction between the P-atom of [PCO]- and an alkylidyne ligand.

Abstract
Primary acyl-phosphines are scarce in the literature. Here we show that the reaction of Ph3 GePCO with the ylide Ph3 PCH2 proceeds to give the species Ph3 PCHC(O)PH(GePh3 ) 1. Deprotonation of 1 with Na[N(SiMe3 )2 ] generates the salt [Na(THF)2 ][Ph3 PCHC(O)P(GePh3 )] 2 which provides subsequent access to the bis-germanylated acylphosphine, Ph3 PCHC(O)P(GePh3 )2 3. Alternatively, treatment of 1 with HCl in dioxane affords the primary acylphosphine Ph3 PCHC(O)PH2 4. Compound 4 is a rare example of an air stable primary acyl-phosphines and the first devoid of a stabilizing heteroatom adjacent to the carbonyl fragment.

Abstract
While the implication of the aromaticity concept has been dramatically expanded to date since its emergence in 1865, the classical [4n+2]/4n-electron counting protocol still plays an essential role in evaluating the aromatic nature of compounds. Over the last few decades, a variety of heavier heterocycles featuring the formal [4n+2] π-electron arrangements have been developed, which allows for assessing their aromatic nature. In this review, we present recent developments of the [4n+2]-electron systems of heavier heterocycles involving group 13-15 elements. The synthesis, spectroscopic data, structural parameters, computational data, and reactivity are introduced.

Abstract
The first examples of Lewis base adducts of the parent boraphosphaketene (H2B‐PCO) and their cyclodimers are prepared. One of these adducts is shown to undergo mild decarbonylation and phosphinidene insertion into a B−C bond of a borole, forming very rare examples of 1,2‐phosphaborinines, B/P isosteres of benzene. The strong donor properties of these 1,2‐phosphaborinines are confirmed by the synthesis of their π complexes with the Group 6 metals.

Abstract
We present a new adduct of carbon dioxide with dihydrogenphosphide, that may be prepared either by direct reaction of NaPH2 with carbon dioxide or by hydrolysis of the phosphaethynolate ion (PCO- ). In this hydrolysis transformation, a new mechanism is proposed for the electrophilic reactivity of the phosphaethynolate ion. Protonation to form phosphine carboxylic acid (PH2 COOH) and functionalization to form esters is shown to increase the strength of the P-C interaction, allowing for comparisons to be drawn between this species and the analogous carbamic (NH2 COOH) and carbonic acids (H2 CO3 ). Functionalization of the oxygen atom is found to stabilize the phosphine carboxylate while also allowing solubility in organic solvents whereas phosphorus functionalization is shown to facilitate decarboxylation. Substituent migration occurs in some cases.

Abstract
Annulated oxy-substituted 1,3,4-azadiphospholides such as the anion in Na[1] are readily accessible phosphorus heterocycles made from the phosphaethynolate anion (OCP)- and 2-chloropyridines. The sodium salt Na[1] reacts with oxophilic element halides such as OPCl3, PhSiCl3, PhBCl2 and CpTiCl3 at room temperature to form exclusively the oxygen bound tris-substituted compounds E(1)3 (with E = OP, PhSi, PhB- or CpTi). Six equivalents of Na[1] with group four metal chlorides MCl4 (M = Ti, Zr, Hf) form cleanly the hexa-substituted dianions (Na2[M(1)6]) which are isolated in excellent yields. The titanium complexes are deeply coloured species due to ligand to metal charge transfer (LMCT) excitations. In all complexes, the phosphorus atoms of the azadiphosphole moieties are able to coordinate to a soft metal center as shown in their reactions with [Mo(CO)3Mes], yielding complexes in which the Mo(CO)3 binds in a fac manner. Functionalization of the oxy group with amino phosphanes allows isolation of tridentate ligands, which have been used as synthons for macrocyclic molybdenum carbonyl complexes.

Abstract
Reactions of Ph3GePCO with KP(t-Bu)2 and Ph3SiCl, or direct reaction with Ph3SiP(t-Bu)2 provides the (Z)- and (E)-isomers of the phosphaalkene (t-Bu2)PC(OSiPh3)P(GePh3) 2, respectively. These isomers interconvert thermally and photochemically, while 2 also undergoes silyl and phosphide exchange with silylphosphines, consistent with a mechanism involving the reversible silylphosphination of Ph3GePCO.

Abstract
A hitherto unknown triphosphatricyclo[3.2.1.02,7]oct-3-ene was obtained in high yield by a total of four consecutive pericyclic reactions from di-2-pyrone and excess TMS-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]P. DFT calculations gave insight into the reaction mechanism. The chiral phosphorus cage readily forms coordination compounds with Au(i) and Cu(i).

Abstract
The phosphaketene Ph3 GePCO is shown to react with the phosphide KP(tBu)2 to generate the anion [Ph3 GePC(O)P(tBu)2 ]- 1. This species reacts with CH3 I or ClGePh3 to give the dissymmetric diphospha-ureas (tBu)2 PC(O)P(GePh3 )(CH3 ) 2 and (Ph3 Ge)2 PC(O)P(tBu)2 3 respectively. Sequential treatment of 2 with a base and CH3 I affords a route to (tBu)2 PC(O)P(CH3 )2 5. These species are products of the first modular diphospha-urea synthesis. The subsequent thermal and photochemical reactivity of these species was also probed and described.

Abstract
After many decades of intense research in low-coordinate phosphorus chemistry, the advent of Na[OCP] brought new stimuli to the field of CHOP isomers and derivatives thereof. The present theoretical study at the CCSD(T)/def2-TZVPP level describes the chemical space of CHOP isomers in terms of structures and potential energy surfaces, using oxaphosphirene as the starting point, but also covering substituted derivatives and COP- isomers. Bonding properties of the P⁻C, P⁻O, and C⁻O bonds in all neutral and anionic isomeric species are discussed on the basis of theoretical calculations using various bond strengths descriptors such as WBI and MBO, but also the Lagrangian kinetic energy density per electron as well as relaxed force constants. Ring strain energies of the superstrained 1H-oxaphosphirene and its barely strained oxaphosphirane-3-ylidene isomer were comparatively evaluated with homodesmotic and hyperhomodesmotic reactions. Furthermore, first time calculation of the ring strain energy of an anionic ring is described for the case of oxaphosphirenide.

Abstract
In all likelihood the first synthesis of the phosphaethynolate anion, PCO- , was performed in 1894 when NaPH2 was reacted with CO in an attempt to make Na(CP) accompanied by elimination of water. This reaction was repeated 117 years later when it was discovered that Na(OCP) and H2 are the products of this remarkable transformation. Li(OCP) was synthesized and fully characterized in 1992 but this salt proved to be too unstable to allow for a detailed investigation of its chemistry. It was not until the heavier analogues of this lithium salt were isolated, Na(OCP) and K(OCP) (both of which are remarkably stable and can be even dissolved in water), that the chemistry of this new functional group could be explored. Here we review the chemistry of the 2-phosphaethynolate anion, a heavier phosphorus-containing analogue of the cyanate anion, and describe the wide breadth of chemical transformations for which it has been thus far employed. Its use as a ligand, in decarbonylative and deoxygenative processes, and as a building block for novel heterocycles is described. In the mere twenty-six years since Becker first reported the isolation of this remarkable anion, it has become a fascinating reagent for the synthesis of a vast library of, often unprecedented, molecules and compounds.

Abstract
The neutral PCO derivative Ph3GePCO undergoes addition of borohydride to generate the anion [Ph3GePC(H)OBPh3]-. A subsequent deprotection strategy provides access to the monomethyl and dimethylformyl phosphines, Ph3GeP(Me)C(H)O and Me2PC(H)O, respectively. The latter species which is the phosphorus analogue of DMF, was characterized and shown to complex via phosphorus to Ru. A computational study also highlights the similarities and differences between the P- and N-containing molecules.

Abstract
The synthesis of a novel heterocubane [RSnE]4 was successful for E = As, while for E = P differing behaviour was observed. Aryl-substituted chlorostannylenes were treated with salts of heavy cyanate homologues PCO- and AsCO-. The reaction with AsCO- salts afforded primarily [TerSnAs]4 (Ter = 2,6-dimesitylphenyl). In contrast, the reaction of TerSnCl with NaPCO proceeded considerably less cleanly affording a mixture of products. The main product was putatively a neutral [Ter4Sn4P4] compound, however, it is not a cubane. A variety of by-products of this reaction could be characterised crystallographically.

Abstract
The reaction of magnesium chloride with two equivalents of sodium phosphaethynolate, Na[OCP]·(dioxane)2.5 (1), yields a magnesium diphosphaethynolate complex, [(THF)4Mg(OCP)2] (3). The formation of compound 3 goes through a monosubstituted chloromagnesium phosphaethynolate Mg(OCP)Cl (2). The structure of 3 was determined via a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. For comparison, we also report the structure of a monomeric sodium phosphaethynolate complex, [Na(OCP)(dibenzo-18-crown-6)] (4).

Abstract
Reaction of the zirconium-benzyne complex [Cp2Zr(PMe3)(C6H4)] with sodium phosphaethynolate, Na[OCP], affords a zircono-phosphaalkene complex. Notably, unlike reactions of other transition metal complexes with Na[OCP] that yield the products of simple salt metathesis, this transformation represents novel Na[OCP] insertion chemistry and formation of an unusual solid state coordination polymer. The polymer is disrupted upon addition of Me3SiCl to afford a silyl-capped dimer that retains the zirconophosphaalkene functionality. Protonation of either form of zirconophosphaalkenes results in the formation of benzoylphosphine, PhC([double bond, length as m-dash]O)PH2.

Abstract
The reactions of the phosphaethynolate anion ([PCO]- ) with a range of boranes were explored. BPh3 and [PCO]- form a dimeric anion featuring P-B bonds and is prone to dissociation at room temperature. The more Lewis acidic borane B(C6 F5 )3 yields a less symmetric dimer of [PCO]- with P-B and P-O bonds. Less sterically demanding HB(C6 F5 )2 and H2 B(C6 F5 ) boranes form a third isomer with [PCO]- featuring both boranes bound to the same phosphorus atom. Despite the unexpected thermodynamic preference for P-coordination, computational data illustrate that electronic and steric features impact the binding modes of the resulting dianionic dimers.
