Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed [4 + 1] annulation of N-arylimidoyl chlorides with β-keto esters has been developed. In the presence of Pd(OAc)2, PCy3, and K3PO4, a variety of fluoalkyl-containing N-arylimidoyl chlorides smoothly underwent the cascade C-H imidoylation/deacylative Heck-type reactions to afford biologically important 2-fluoroalkyl indoles in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
An efficient palladium-catalyzed region-selective C7-trifluoromethylation of indolines using commercially available Umemoto's reagent was reported. The reaction utilizing Umemoto's reagent as CF3 radical precursor, pyrimidine as a removable directing group, Pd(II) as a catalyst, and Cu(II) as an oxidant furnished the required products with excellent regioselectivities and good yields. The present strategy has good region-selectivity, broad substrate scope, and scale-up application. Additionally, the present method was underlined by the direct C-1 trifluoromethylation of carbazoles. Furthermore, C7 trifluoromethylated indole can also be easily obtained via Pd-catalyzed direct C-7 trifluoromethylation/oxidation/deprotection sequential reactions.

Abstract
We disclose a Bi-catalyzed C-H trifluoromethylation of (hetero)arenes using CF3SO2Cl under light irradiation. The catalytic method permits the direct functionalization of various heterocycles bearing distinct functional groups. The structural and computational studies suggest that the process occurs through an open-shell redox manifold at bismuth, comprising three unusual elementary steps for a main group element. The catalytic cycle starts with rapid oxidative addition of CF3SO2Cl to a low-valent Bi(I) catalyst, followed by a light-induced homolysis of Bi(III)-O bond to generate a trifluoromethyl radical upon extrusion of SO2, and is closed with a hydrogen-atom transfer to a Bi(II) radical intermediate.

Abstract
The increasing pharmaceutical importance of trifluoromethylarenes has stimulated the development of more efficient trifluoromethylation reactions. Tremendous efforts have focused on copper- and palladium-mediated/catalyzed trifluoromethylation of aryl halides. In contrast, no general method exists for the conversion of widely available inert electrophiles, such as phenol derivatives, into the corresponding trifluoromethylated arenes. Reported herein is a practical nickel-mediated trifluoromethylation of phenol derivatives with readily available trimethyl(trifluoromethyl)silane (TMSCF3 ). The strategy relies on PMe3 -promoted oxidative addition and transmetalation, and CCl3 CN-induced reductive elimination. The broad utility of this transformation has been demonstrated through the direct incorporation of trifluoromethyl into aromatic and heteroaromatic systems, including biorelevant compounds.

Abstract
Incorporation of the CF3 group into arenes has found increasing importance in drug discovery. Herein, we report the first photoredox-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl thianthrenium salts with a copper-based trifluoromethyl reagent, which enables a site-selective late-stage trifluoromethylation of arenes. The reaction proceeds with broad functional group tolerance, even for complex small molecules on gram scale. The method was further extended to produce pentafluoroethylated derivatives.

Abstract
Regioselective C(2)-H difluoroalkylation of C-3 unsubstituted indoles with commonly available fluoroalkyl bromides is successfully achieved employing a simple nickel catalyst system, (DME)NiCl2 /Xantphos. This methodology shows excellent regioselectivity and exhibits a broad substrate scope. Various functional groups, such as -OMe, -F, and -Br, are tolerated on the indole backbone to give the difluoroalkylated products in moderate to good yields. Preliminary mechanistic findings demonstrate that the reaction is homogeneous in nature and involves a radical manifold. Synthetic utility of this nickel-catalyzed method is demonstrated by synthesizing melatonin receptor antagonist Luzindole derivative.

Abstract
A new method for the synthesis of 2-(trifluoromethyl)indoles using easily accessible 2-alkynylanilines and a well-established fluoroform-derived CuCF3 reagent is described. This method utilizes a domino trifluoromethylation/cyclization strategy to construct the indole cores with no ambiguity of the CF3 position. The intriguing 3-formyl-2-(trifluoromethyl)indoles can also be synthesized by this protocol, which are useful intermediates for the preparation of trifluoromethylated drug analogues. The ultimate CF3 source is the inexpensive industrial byproduct fluoroform.

Hypervalent Iodine Reagents in High Valent Transition Metal Chemistry. Molecules 2017; 22:molecules22050780. Abstract
Over the last 20 years, high valent metal complexes have evolved from mere curiosities to being at the forefront of modern catalytic method development. This approach has enabled transformations complimentary to those possible via traditional manifolds, most prominently carbon-heteroatom bond formation. Key to the advancement of this chemistry has been the identification of oxidants that are capable of accessing these high oxidation state complexes. The oxidant has to be both powerful enough to achieve the desired oxidation as well as provide heteroatom ligands for transfer to the metal center; these heteroatoms are often subsequently transferred to the substrate via reductive elimination. Herein we will review the central role that hypervalent iodine reagents have played in this aspect, providing an ideal balance of versatile reactivity, heteroatom ligands, and mild reaction conditions. Furthermore, these reagents are environmentally benign, non-toxic, and relatively inexpensive compared to other inorganic oxidants. We will cover advancements in both catalysis and high valent complex isolation with a key focus on the subtle effects that oxidant choice can have on reaction outcome, as well as limitations of current reagents.
