Abstract
Nanohoops, cyclic association of π-conjugated systems to form a hoop-shaped molecule, have been widely developed in the last 15 years. Beyond the synthetic challenge, the strong interest towards these molecules arises from their radially oriented π-orbitals, which provide singular properties to these fascinating structures. Thanks to their particular cylindrical arrangement, this new generation of curved molecules have been already used in many applications such as host-guest complexation, biosensing, bioimaging, solid-state emission and catalysis. However, their potential in organic electronics has only started to be explored. From the first incorporation as an emitter in a fluorescent organic light emitting diode (OLED), to the recent first incorporation as a host in phosphorescent OLEDs or as charge transporter in organic field-effect transistors and in organic photovoltaics, this field has shown important breakthroughs in recent years. These findings have revealed that curved materials can play a key role in the future and can even be more efficient than their linear counterparts. This can have important repercussions for the future of electronics. Time has now come to overview the different nanohoops used to date in electronic devices in order to stimulate the future molecular designs of functional materials based on these macrocycles.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis of a novel intramolecular donor-acceptor (D-A) system ([12]CPP-8TPAOMe) based on cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) grafted with eight di(4-methoxyphenyl)amino groups (TPAOMe) as donors. Compared to [12]CPP, D-A nanohoop exhibited significant changes in physical properties, including a large redshift (>78 nm) in the fluorescence spectrum and novel positive solvatofluorochromic properties with a maximum peak ranging from 484 nm to 546 nm. The potential applications of [12]CPP-8TPAOMe in electron- and hole-transport devices were further investigated, and its bipolar behavior as a charge transport active layer was clearly observed.

Abstract
Since the first applications of nanohoops in organic electronics appear promising, the time has come to go deeper into their rational design in order to reach high-efficiency materials. To do so, systematic studies dealing with the incorporation of electron-rich and/or electron-poor functional units on nanohoops have to be performed. Herein, the synthesis, the electrochemical, photophysical, thermal, and structural properties of two [4]cyclo-2,7-carbazoles, [4]C-Py-Cbz, and [4]C-Pm-Cbz, possessing electron-withdrawing units on their nitrogen atoms (pyridine or pyrimidine) are reported. The synthesis of these nanohoops is first optimized and a high yield above 50% is reached. Through a structure-properties relationship study, it is shown that the substituent has a significant impact on some physicochemical properties (eg HOMO/LUMO levels) while others are kept unchanged (eg fluorescence). Incorporation in electronic devices shows that the most electrically efficient Organic Field-Effect transistors are obtained with [4]C-Py-Cbz although this compound does not present the best-organized semiconductor layer. These experimental data are finally confronted with the electronic couplings between the nanohoops determined at the DFT level and have highlighted the origin in the difference of charge transport properties. [4]C-Py-Cbz has the advantage of a more 2D-like transport character than [4]C-Pm-Cbz, which alleviates the impact of defects and structural organization.

Abstract
A combination of density functional theory (DFT) methods and quantum transport theory (QTT) has been used to investigate the spectroscopic, electronic, and thermoelectric properties of carbon nanohoop molecules with different molecular templates. The connectivity type, along with inherent strain, impacts the transport behavior and creates a destructive quantum interference (DQI), which proves itself to be a powerful strategy to enhance the thermoelectric properties of these molecules, making them promising candidates for thermoelectric applications.

Abstract
Cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) are the smallest possible armchair carbon nanotubes, the properties of which strongly depend on their ring size. They can be further tuned by either peripheral functionalization or by replacing phenylene rings for other aromatic units. Here we show how four novel donor-acceptor chromophores were obtained by incorporating fluorenone or 2-(9H-fluoren-9-ylidene)malononitrile into the loops of two differently sized CPPs. Synthetically, we managed to perform late-stage functionalization of the fluorenone-based rings by high-yielding Knoevenagel condensations. The structures were confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analyses, which revealed that replacing a phenylene for a fused-ring-system acceptor introduces additional strain. The donor-acceptor characters of the CPPs were supported by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic studies, electrochemical studies (displaying the CPPs as multi-redox systems undergoing reversible or quasi-reversible redox events), as well as by computations. The oligophenylene parts were found to comprise the electron donor units of the macrocycles and the fluorenone parts the acceptor units.

Abstract
Mixed-ligand tetranuclear supramolecular coordination complexes (SCCs) of Pt(II)-p-biphenyl and bridging ligands derivatives of 4,4'-bypiridine (8)-(10), were synthesized and characterized. The SCCs were synthesized stepwise, starting from the Pt-p-biphenyl -Pt core. The crystal structure of complex {[Pt(2,2'-bpy)]4(μ-bph)2(μ-(4,4'-bpy)2}{PF6}4 (2,2'-bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, bph = p-biphenyl and 4,4'-bpy = 4,4' bipyridine), was determined using single-crystal diffraction methods. The emission profile of the tetranuclear complexes (8)-(10) was influenced by the length of the bridging ligands and was found to depend on solvent polarity. Dual-emission patterns in methanol-water mixtures were observed only in the cases of complexes (9) and (10), attributed to aggregation-induced emission phenomena.

Abstract
With their bent π-systems, cyclic conjugation and inherent cavities, conjugated nanohoops are attractive for organic electronics applications. For ease of processing and morphological stability, an incorporation into polymers is desirable, but to date was hampered with few exceptions by synthetic difficulties. We herein present a unique strategy for the synthesis of conjugated nanohoop polymers using a dibenzo[a,e]pentalene (DBP) as central connector. We demonstrate this versatility by synthesizing three electronically diverse copolymers with dithienyldiketo(pyrrolopyrrol), fluorene and carbazole comonomers, and report the first donor-acceptor nanohoop polymer. Optoelectronic investigations reveal the prevalence of cyclic or linear conjugation, depending on the comonomer unit, and ambipolar electrochemical properties through the antiaromatic character of the DBP units. As the first report on using conjugated nanohoops for charge storage as positive electrode materials, we show a significant improvement in battery performance in a nanohoop-containing polymer compared to an equivalent nanohoop-free reference polymer. We believe this study will pave the way for the synthesis of a diverse range of nanohoop polymers and further stimulate their exploration for charge storage in batteries.

Abstract
This review aims to discuss organic semiconductors constructed on dihydroindenofluorene positional isomers, which are key molecular scaffolds in organic electronics. Bridged oligophenylenes are key organic semiconductors that have allowed the development of organic electronic technologies. Dihydroindenofluorenes (DHIFs) belong to the family of bridged oligophenylenes constructed on a terphenyl backbone. They have proven to be very promising building blocks for the construction of highly efficient organic semiconductors for all OE devices, namely organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), phosphorescent OLEDs, organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), solar cells, etc.

Abstract
A series of new zinc porphyrins were synthesized, and their charge transport property was tuned by introducing various groups. Triarylamine was introduced to the porphyrin moiety at the meso-position as an electron donor, enhancing the charge carrier mobility. All the synthesized zinc porphyrins are thermally stable with a decomposition temperature over 178 °C. High frontier molecular orbitals levels of these compounds make them stable donor materials. SEM analysis of zinc porphyrins fabricated by spin-coating resulted in diversely self-assembled films. Field-effect transistors were fabricated using bottom-gate/top-contact architecture (BGTC) by solution-processable technique. The higher charge carrier mobility of 5.17 cm2 /Vs with on/off of 106 was obtained for trifluoromethyl substituted compound due to better molecular packing. In addition, GIXRD analysis revealed zinc porphyrins films crystalline nature, which supports its better charge carrier mobility. The present investigation has validated that zinc porphyrin building blocks are an attractive candidate for p-channel OFET devices.

Abstract
Fullerene host-guest constructs have attracted increasing attention owing to their molecular-level hybrid arrangements. However, the usage of simple carbazolic derivatives to bind with fullerenes is rare. In this research, three novel carbazolic derivatives, containing a tunable bridging linker and carbazole units for the capturing of fullerenes, are rationally designed. Unlike the general concave-convex interactions, fullerenes could interact with the planar carbazole subunits to form 2-dimensional hexagonal/quadrilateral cocrystals with alternating stacking patterns of 1 : 1 or 1 : 2 stoichiometry, as well as the controllable fullerene packing modes. At the meanwhile, good electron-transporting performances and significant photovoltaic effects were realized when a continuous C60⋅⋅⋅ C60 interaction channel existed. The results indicate that the introduction of such carbazolic system into fullerene receptor would provide new insights into novel fullerene host-guest architectures for versatile applications.

Abstract
Macrocycles possessing radially oriented π-orbitals have experienced a fantastic development. However, their incorporation in organic electronic devices remains very scarce. In this work, we aim at bridging the gap between organic electronics and nanorings by reporting the first detailed structure-properties-device performance relationship study of organic functional materials based on a nanoring system. Three [4]cyclo-N-alkyl-2,7-carbazoles bearing different alkyl chains on their nitrogen atoms have been synthesized and characterized by combined experimental and theoretical approaches. This study includes electrochemical, photophysical, thermal, and structural solid-state measurements and charge transport properties investigations. An optimized protocol of the Pt approach has been developed to synthesize the [4]cyclocarbazoles in high yield (52-64%), of great interest for further development of nanorings, especially in materials science. The charge transport properties of [4]cyclocarbazoles and model compound [8]cycloparaphenylene ([8]CPP) have been studied. Although no field effect (FE) mobility was recorded for the benchmark [8]CPP, FE mobility values of ca. 10-5 cm2·V-1·s-1 were recorded for the [4]cyclocarbazoles. The characteristics (threshold voltage VTH, subthreshold swing SS, trapping energy ΔE) recorded for the three [4]cyclocarbazoles appear to be modulated by the alkyl chain length borne by the nitrogen atoms. Remarkably, the space-charge-limited current mobilities measured for the [4]cyclocarbazoles are about 3 orders of magnitude higher than that of [8]CPP (1.37/2.78 × 10-4 cm2·V-1·s-1 for the [4]cyclocarbazoles vs 1.21 × 10-7 cm2·V-1·s-1 for [8]CPP), highlighting the strong effect of nitrogen bridges on the charge transport properties. The whole study opens the way to the use of nanorings in electronics, which is now the next step of their development.

Abstract
In the last 13 years several synthetic strategies were developed that provide access to [n]cycloparaphenylenes ([n]CPPs) and related conjugated nanohoops. A number of potential applications emerged, including optoelectronic devices, and their use as templates for carbon nanomaterials and in supramolecular chemistry. To tune the structural or optoelectronic properties of carbon nanohoops beyond the size‐dependent effect known for [n]CPPs, a variety of aromatic rings other than benzene were introduced. In this Review, we provide an overview of the syntheses, properties, and applications of conjugated nanohoops beyond [n]CPPs with intrinsic donor/acceptor structure or such that contain acceptor, donor, heteroaromatic or polycyclic aromatic units within the hoop as well as conjugated nanobelts.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of a [2.2]paracyclophane-containing macrocycle (PCMC) as a new through-space conjugated macrocycle using only benzene groups as the skeleton. For comparison, a diphenylmethane-containing nanohoop macrocycle (DCMC) with a non-conjugated linker was also synthesized. Their structures were confirmed by NMR and HR-MS, and their photophysical properties were studied by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies combined with theoretical calculations. The strain energy of PCMC was estimated to be as high as 72.58 kcal mol-1.

Abstract
Herein we report the precise synthesis and photophysical properties of a naphthalene-containing carbon nanohoop, cyclo[7]paraphenylene-2,6-naphthylene ([7]CPPNa2,6), as a sidewall segment of a [9,8] single-walled carbon nanotube ([9,8]SWNT) using a rationally designed strategy. To the best of our knowledge, [7]CPPNa2,6 represents the smallest chiral SWNT segment ever reported. The structure was confirmed by 1H NMR, 2D 1H-1H COSY NMR, 13C NMR, and HR-MS spectrometry. The nanohoop's interesting photophysical properties were investigated by steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy combined with theoretical calculations. Compared with the [8]CPP and [9]CPP nanohoops, [7]CPPNa2,6 has a moderate strain energy (89.6 kcal mol-1) and a higher HOMO-LUMO gap (3.5 eV).
