Abstract
Gallaphosphene L(Cl)GaPGaL 1 (L=HC[C(Me)N(Ar)]2 ; Ar=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 ) reacts with N-heterocyclic carbenes R NHC (R NHC=[CMeN(R)]2 C; R=Me, iPr) to R NHC-coordinated phosphinidenes R NHC→PGa(Cl)L (R=Me 2 a, iPr 2 b) and with isonitriles RNC (R=iPr, Cy) to 1,3-phosphaazaallenes L(Cl)GaP=C=N-R (R=iPr 3 a, Cy 3 b), respectively. Quantum chemical calculations reveal that 2 a/2 b possess two localized lone pair of electrons, whereas 3 a/3 b only show one localized lone pair as was reported for gallaphosphene 1. 2 b reacts with 2.5 equivalents of a borane (THF ⋅ BH3 ) to the NHC-stabilized phosphinidene-borane complex [iPr NHC→P(BH2 )]2 (BH3 )3 4 with concomitant formation of LGa(H)Cl 5. 2-5 are characterized by heteronuclear (1 H, 13 C{1 H}, 31 P{1 H}) NMR and IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction (sc-XRD).

Abstract
The first 1,4-distibabenzene-1,4-diide compound [(ADC)Sb]2 (5) based on an anionic dicarbene (ADC) (ADC=PhC{N(Dipp)C}2 , Dipp=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 ) is reported as a bordeaux-red solid. Compound 5, featuring a central six-membered C4 Sb2 ring with formally SbI atoms may be regarded as a base-stabilized cyclic bis-stibinidene in which each of the Sb atoms bears two lone-pairs of electrons. 5 undergoes 2 e-oxidation with Ph3 C[B(C6 F5 )4 ] to afford [(ADC)Sb]2 [B(C6 F5 )4 ]2 (6) as a brick-red solid. Each of the Sb atoms of 6 has an unpaired electron and a lone-pair. The broken-symmetry open-shell singlet diradical solution for (6)2+ is calculated to be 2.13 kcal mol-1 more stable than the closed-shell singlet. The diradical character of (6)2+ according to SS-CASSCF (state-specific complete active space self-consistent field) and UHF (unrestricted Hartree-Fock) methods amounts to 36 % and 39 %, respectively. Treatments of 6 with (PhE)2 yield [(ADC)Sb(EPh)]2 [B(C6 F5 )4 ]2 (7-E) (E=S or Se). Reaction of 5 with (cod)Mo(CO)4 affords [(ADC)Sb]2 Mo(CO)4 (8).

Abstract
Herein, the synthesis and characterization of the carbene‐stabilized boryl phosphinidenes 1–3 are reported. Compounds 1–3 are obtained by reacting Me‐cAAC=PK (Me2‐cAAC=dimethyl cyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbene) and dihaloaryl borane in toluene. All three compounds were characterized by X‐ray crystallography. Quantum mechanical studies indicated that these compounds have two lone pairs on the P center viz., an σ‐type lone pair and a “hidden” π‐type lone pair. Hence, these compounds can act as double Lewis bases, and the basicity of the π‐type lone pair is higher than the σ‐type lone pair.

Abstract
Halide abstraction of the carbene-coordinated pnictinidenes (MecAAC)EGa(Cl)L (E = As 1, Sb 2, Bi 3, MecAAC = [H2C(CMe2)2NDipp]C; L = HC[C(Me)NDipp]2; Dipp = 2,6-i-Pr2C6H3) yielded the series of cationic group 15 compounds [(MecAAC)EGaL][Al(ORF)4] (E = As 4, Sb 5; Al(ORF)4 = Al(OC(CF3)3)4) and [(MecAAC)EGaL][B(ArF)4] (E = Sb 6, Bi 7; B(ArF)4 = B[C6H3(CF3)2]4), which were characterized by heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy and sc-XRD. The electronic nature of the cations [(MecAAC)EGaL]+ is controlled by the central pnictogen atom, according to quantum chemical calculations. The calculations furthermore demonstrated that compounds containing the lighter pnictogens (E = N, P) are best described as heteronuclear allyl cations, whereas heavier pnictogen atoms (E = As, Sb, Bi) serve as a trap for the positive charge, resulting in carbene-stabilized heterovinyl-type structures.

Abstract
The catalytic metathesis of C=C bonds is a textbook reaction that has no parallel in the widely studied area of multiple bonds involving heavier p-block elements. A high-yielding P=C bond metathesis of phosphaalkenes (ArP=CPh2 , Ar=Mes, o-Tol, Ph) has been discovered that is catalyzed by N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC=Me2 IMe, Me2 Ii Pr). The products are cyclic oligomers formally derived from ArP=PAr [i. e. cyclo-(ArP)n ; n=3, 4, 5, 6] and Ph2 C=CPh2 . Preliminary mechanistic studies of this remarkable transformation have established NHC=PAr (Ar=Mes, o-Tol, Ph) as key phosphinidene transfer agents. In addition, novel cyclic intermediates, such as, cyclo-(ArP)2 CPh2 and cyclo-(ArP)4 CPh2 have also been observed. This work represents a rare application of non-metal-based catalysts for transformations involving main-group elements.

Abstract
This paper describes the synthesis and reactivity of [η5-1,3-(Me3Si)2C5H3]2U([double bond, length as m-dash]P-2,4,6-iPr3C6H2)(OPMe3) (6) which is accessible from a ligand exchange reaction between [η5-1,3-(Me3Si)2C5H3]2U([double bond, length as m-dash]P-2,4,6-iPr3C6H2)(OPPh3) (2) and Me3PO at ambient temperature. Phosphinidene 6 exhibits no reactivity towards internal alkynes, but readily reacts with various hetero-unsaturated molecules such as isothiocyanates, aldehydes, nitriles, isonitriles, and organic azides, forming uranium sulfido, oxido, imido, and uranaheterocyclic compounds. Nevertheless, with the bidentate ortho-dicyanobenzene o-C6H4(CN)2 the zwitterionic species [η5-1,3-(Me3Si)2C5H3]2U[NHC(N){C6H4CP(2,4,6-iPr3C6H2)CH2PMe2O}] (13) is isolated in good yield. Moreover, 6 converts with Ph2S2 to the uranium(iii) phenylthiolate compound [η5-1,3-(Me3Si)2C5H3]2USPh(OPMe3) (7) in good isolated yield. Furthermore, the influence of the Lewis base on the reactivity of the uranium phosphinidene metallocenes has also been evaluated.

Abstract
The first stable base‐free terminal uranium phosphinidene metallocene is presented; and its structure and reactivity have been studied in detail and compared to that of the corresponding thorium derivative. Salt metathesis reaction of the methyl iodide uranium metallocene Cp’’’2U(I)Me (2, Cp’’’=η5‐1,2,4‐(Me3C)3C5H2) with Mes*PHK (Mes*=2,4,6‐(Me3C)3C6H2) in THF yields the base‐free terminal uranium phosphinidene metallocene, Cp’’’2U=PMes* (3). In addition, density functional theory (DFT) studies suggest substantial 5f orbital contributions to the bonding within the uranium phosphinidene [U]=PAr moiety, which results in a more covalent bonding between the [Cp’’’2U]2+ and [Mes*P]2− fragments than that for the related thorium derivative. This difference in bonding besides steric reasons causes different reactivity patterns for both molecules. Therefore, the uranium derivative 3 may act as a Cp’’’2U(II) synthon releasing the phosphinidene moiety (Mes*P:) when treated with alkynes or a variety of hetero‐unsaturated molecules such as imines, thiazoles, ketazines, bipy, organic azides, diazene derivatives, ketones, and carbodiimides.

Abstract
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) are nowadays ubiquitous and indispensable in many research fields, and it is not possible to imagine modern transition metal and main group element chemistry without the plethora of available NHCs with tailor-made electronic and steric properties. While their suitability to act as strong ligands toward transition metals has led to numerous applications of NHC complexes in homogeneous catalysis, their strong σ-donating and adaptable π-accepting abilities have also contributed to an impressive vitalization of main group chemistry with the isolation and characterization of NHC adducts of almost any element. Formally, NHC coordination to Lewis acids affords a transfer of nucleophilicity from the carbene carbon atom to the attached exocyclic moiety, and low-valent and low-coordinate adducts of the p-block elements with available lone pairs and/or polarized carbon-element π-bonds are able to act themselves as Lewis basic donor ligands toward transition metals. Accordingly, the availability of a large number of novel NHC adducts has not only produced new varieties of already existing ligand classes but has also allowed establishment of numerous complexes with unusual and often unprecedented element-metal bonds. This review aims at summarizing this development comprehensively and covers the usage of N-heterocyclic carbene adducts of the p-block elements as ligands in transition metal chemistry.

Abstract
The long‐sought carbene–bismuthinidene, (CAAC)Bi(Ph), has been synthesized. Notably, this represents both the first example of a carbene‐stabilized subvalent bismuth complex and the extension of the carbene‐pnictinidene concept to a non‐toxic metallic element (Bi). The bonding has been investigated by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction studies and DFT calculations. This report also highlights the hitherto unknown reducing and ligand transfer capability of a beryllium(0) complex.

Abstract
Since the discovery of the first stable N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) in the beginning of the 1990s, these divalent carbon species have become a common and available class of compounds, which have found numerous applications in academic and industrial research. Their important role as two-electron donor ligands, especially in transition metal chemistry and catalysis, is difficult to overestimate. In the past decade, there has been tremendous research attention given to the chemistry of low-coordinate main group element compounds. Significant progress has been achieved in stabilization and isolation of such species as Lewis acid/base adducts with highly tunable NHC ligands. This has allowed investigation of numerous novel types of compounds with unique electronic structures and opened new opportunities in the rational design of novel organic catalysts and materials. This Review gives a general overview of this research, basic synthetic approaches, key features of NHC-main group element adducts, and might be useful for the broad research community.

Abstract
In our efforts to prepare a diarsenic allotrope supported by two cyclic alkyl amino carbene (CAAC) ligands we stumbled upon the synthesis of the first carbene-supported chloroarsinidene 3, which has been fully characterized by a combination of NMR spectroscopic and XRD methods. Although further reduction of 3 was not possible, we found that addition of a second equivalent of CAAC in refluxing toluene afforded the first example of a crystallographically characterized arsamethine cyanine dye (4). The arsenic(I) dye is structurally similar to phosphorus analogues, and contains an arsenide anion with two stereochemically active lone pairs supported by two iminium ligands. The UV/Visible spectrum and redox chemistry of 4 were also explored. Upon reduction with one equivalent of KC8 , 3 is reduced to the originally targeted CAAC2 As2 allotrope 6, whereas oxidation provides access to the first example of an arsenic(II) radical dication (5).

Abstract
This review aims to highlight the recent developments in the chemistry of selected imidazoliumyl-substituted phosphorus compounds. The synthetic approaches for their preparation with phosphorus in various oxidation states and coordination environments are discussed. Their intriguing properties and versatile chemistry strongly depends on the bonding motif at the P atoms, which is given special focus.

Abstract
The reaction of [Zr(TrenDMBS )(Cl)] [Zr1; TrenDMBS =N(CH2 CH2 NSiMe2 But )3 ] with NaPH2 gave the terminal parent phosphanide complex [Zr(TrenDMBS )(PH2 )] [Zr2; Zr-P=2.690(2) Å]. Treatment of Zr2 with one equivalent of KCH2 C6 H5 and two equivalents of benzo-15-crown-5 ether (B15C5) afforded an unprecedented example (outside of matrix isolation) of a structurally authenticated transition-metal terminal parent phosphinidene complex [Zr(TrenDMBS )(PH)][K(B15C5)2 ] [Zr3; Zr=P=2.472(2) Å]. DFT calculations reveal a polarized-covalent Zr=P double bond, with a Mayer bond order of 1.48, and together with IR spectroscopic data also suggest an agostic-type Zr⋅⋅⋅HP interaction [∡ZrPH =66.7°] which is unexpectedly similar to that found in cryogenic, spectroscopically observed phosphinidene species. Surprisingly, computational data suggest that the Zr=P linkage is similarly polarized, and thus as covalent, as essentially isostructural U=P and Th=P analogues.

Abstract
The trapping of a phosphinidene (R-P) in an NCN pincer is presented. Stabilized phosphinidene 1 was characterized by 31 P{1 H}, 1 H, and 13 C{1 H} NMR spectroscopy, exhibiting an averaged C2v symmetry in solution between -60 and 60 °C. In the solid state, the phosphinidene is coordinated by one adjacent N atom featuring a formal P-N bond (1.757(2) Å) to give a five-membered ring with some aromatic character, confirmed by DFT calculations (B3LYP-D3/6-311G**++) to be the ground-state structure. Equilibration of the two N ligands occurs rapidly in solution via a "bell-clapper"-type process through an associative symmetric transition state calculated to lie 4.0 kcal mol-1 above the ground state.

Abstract
In the presence of stoichiometric or catalytic amounts of [M{N(SiMe3 )2 }2 ] (M=Fe, Co), N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) react with primary phosphines to give a series of carbene phosphinidenes of the type (NHC)⋅PAr. The formation of (IMe4 )⋅PMes (Mes=mesityl) is also catalyzed by the phosphinidene-bridged complex [(IMe4 )2 Fe(μ-PMes)]2 , which provides evidence for metal-catalyzed phosphinidene transfer.

Abstract
Deprotonation of the yttrium-arsine complex [Cp'3Y{As(H)2Mes}] (1) (Cp'=η(5)-C5H4Me, Mes=mesityl) by nBuLi produces the μ-arsenide complex [{Cp'2Y[μ-As(H)Mes]}3] (2). Deprotonation of the As-H bonds in 2 by nBuLi produces [Li(thf)4]2[{Cp'2Y(μ3-AsMes)}3Li], [Li(thf)4]2[3], in which the dianion 3 contains the first example of an arsinidene ligand in rare-earth metal chemistry. The molecular structures of the arsine, arsenide, and arsinidene complexes are described, and the yttrium-arsenic bonding is analyzed by density functional theory.

Abstract
The potential energy surfaces of a series of clusters with the formula CAl3E (E = P, As, Sb, Bi) are systematically explored using density functional theory and high level ab initio calculations. The global minimum structure of these clusters contains a planar tetracoordinate carbon atom. The presence of a C=E double bond is supported by the Wiberg bond indices, the adaptive natural density partitioning analysis, and the magnetic response. Our results show that these planar tetracoordinate carbon clusters are both thermodynamically and kinetically viable species in the gas phase.
