Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the phase angle (PhA) through bioelectrical impedance (BIA) of children with intestinal failure (IF) using prolonged parenteral nutrition (PN) followed by an Intestinal Rehabilitation Program, with a control group. METHODS Children under 10 years of age with IF using prolonged PN for >60 days (study group) were included. The control group consisted of healthy children without chronic pathologies, matched by sex and age. Anthropometric parameters evaluated were: weight, height, weight/age z-score (W/A), height/age z-score (H/A), BMI, BMI/A z-score, arm circumference, triceps skinfold, subscapular skinfold, mid-arm muscle circumference. BIA parameters were resistance (R), reactance (Xc), and phase angle (PhA). RESULTS Twenty-eight children were included in the study group, median (IQR) age was 11 (8-27) months, 53.6 % were male. In the control group, 28 children were included, median (IQR) age was 12.5 (8-24.7) months, 50 % were male. Children from the study group had W/A z-scores and H/A z-scores significantly lower than controls. There was no significant difference between PhA in the study group and controls, [median (IQR) 4.3° (3.8;4.6) vs 4.0° (3.8;5.4) respectively, p = 0.980]. Prematurity was significantly higher in the study group than in the controls, but there was no significant correlation between gestational age at birth and PhA of the children from the study group. CONCLUSION Children with IF using prolonged PN showed lower W/A and H/A compared to the control group, but without significant difference between the PhA of children with IF compared to controls.

Abstract
Phase angle (PhA) may reflect the integrity of cellular membranes, hydration status, and total body cell mass. Studies have shown that PhA can be used as a good predictor for evaluation of disease severity in critically ill adults. However, there is a lack of studies assessing the association between PhA and clinical outcomes in critically ill children. This systematic review described the association between PhA at pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission with clinical outcomes in critically ill children. The search was conducted using PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, EMBASE and LILACS until July 22, 2022. Studies that evaluate the association between PhA at PICU admission in critically ill children and clinical outcomes were eligible. Data regarding population, study design, setting, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) protocol used, PhA classification, and outcome analysis were extracted. Risk of bias was assessed by Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Among the 4669 articles screened, five prospective studies were included. The studies have shown association between lower values of PhA at PICU admission with longer PICU and hospital length of stay, duration of mechanical ventilation, septic shock, and higher mortality risk. Small sample size, different clinical conditions, and methodological differences of the studies regarding BIA equipment and cutoffs of PhA were observed. Although the studies have limitations, the PhA has a potential role in predicting clinical outcomes in critically ill children. Larger studies with standardized PhA protocols and other relevant clinical outcomes are necessary.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To characterize the nutritional status of children admitted to Latin American (LA) PICUs and to describe the adequacy of nutrition support in reference to contemporary international recommendations. DESIGN The Nutrition in PICU (NutriPIC) study was a combined point-prevalence study of malnutrition carried out on 1 day in 2021 (Monday 8 November) and a retrospective cohort study of adequacy of nutritional support in the week preceding. SETTING Four-one PICUs in 13 LA countries. PATIENTS Patients already admitted to the PICU of 1 month to 18 years old on the study day were included in the point-prevalence study. For the retrospective arm, we included patients receiving nutritional support on the study day and with a PICU length of stay (LOS) greater than or equal to 72 hours. Exclusion criteria were being a neonate, conditions that precluded accurate anthropometric measurements, and PICU LOS greater than 14 days. INTERVENTIONS None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS Of 316 patients screened, 5 did not meet age criteria. There were 191 of 311 patients who were included in the point-prevalence study and underwent anthropometric evaluation. Underweight and length for age less than -2 z scores were present in 42 of 88 children (47.7%) and 41 of 88 children (46.6%) less than 24 months old, and 14 of 103 (13.6%) and (23/103) 22.3% of 103 children greater than or equal to 24 months, respectively. Evidence of obesity (body mass index > 2 z score) was present in 7 of 88 children (5.7%) less than 24 months old and 13 of 103 children (12.6%) greater than or equal to 24 months. In the 115 of 311 patients meeting criteria for the retrospective arm, a total of 98 patients reported complete nutritional data. The 7-day median (interquartile range) adequacy for delivered versus recommended enteral energy and protein requirement was 114% (75, 154) and 99% (60, 133), respectively. CONCLUSIONS The NutriPIC study found that in 2021 malnutrition was highly prevalent especially in PICU admissions of less than 24 months old. Retrospectively, the 7-day median nutritional support appears to meet both energy and protein requirements.

Abstract
The nutritional management of children with acute kidney injury (AKI) is complex. The dynamic nature of AKI necessitates frequent nutritional assessments and adjustments in management. Dietitians providing medical nutrition therapies to this patient population must consider the interaction of medical treatments and AKI status to effectively support both the nutrition status of patients with AKI as well as limit adverse metabolic derangements associated with inappropriately prescribed nutrition support. The Pediatric Renal Nutrition Taskforce (PRNT), an international team of pediatric renal dietitians and pediatric nephrologists, has developed clinical practice recommendations (CPR) for the nutritional management of children with AKI. We address the need for intensive collaboration between dietitians and physicians so that nutritional management is optimized in line with AKI medical treatments. We focus on key challenges faced by dietitians regarding nutrition assessment. Furthermore, we address how nutrition support should be provided to children with AKI while taking into account the effect of various medical treatment modalities of AKI on nutritional needs. Given the poor quality of evidence available, a Delphi survey was conducted to seek consensus from international experts. Statements with a low grade or those that are opinion-based must be carefully considered and adapted to individual patient needs, based on the clinical judgment of the treating physician and dietitian. Research recommendations are provided. CPRs will be regularly audited and updated by the PRNT.

Abstract
Undernutrition is highly prevalent in children who are critically ill and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, including a higher risk of infection due to transitory immunological disorders, inadequate wound healing, reduced gut function, longer dependency on mechanical ventilation, and longer hospital stays compared with eutrophic children who are critically ill. Nutrition care studies have proposed that early interventions targeting nutrition assessment can prevent or minimize the complications of undernutrition. Stress promotes an acute inflammatory response mediated by cytokines, resulting in increased basal metabolism and nitrogen excretion and leading to muscle loss and changes in body composition. Therefore, the inclusion of body composition assessment is important in the evaluation of these patients because, in addition to the nutrition aspect, body composition seems to predict clinical prognosis. Several techniques can be used to assess body composition, such as arm measurements, calf circumference, grip strength, bioelectrical impedance analysis, and imaging examinations, including computed tomography and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. This review of available evidence suggests that arm measurements seem to be well-established in assessing body composition in children who are critically ill, and that bioelectrical impedance analysis with phase angle, handgrip strength, calf circumference and ultrasound seem to be promising in this evaluation. However, further robust studies based on scientific evidence are necessary.

Abstract
Phase angle (PhA) is a valuable tool for evaluating the nutritional and inflammatory status, which can accompany acute and severe disorders. PhA is a cellular health biomarker, whose value is particularly substantial due to the negative consequences of these situations in the pediatric population. Relevant literature was collected with the aim of comprehensively analysing the evidence on the association between an altered PhA can serve as a predictive-marker for mortality and poor-outcomes in at-risk-pediatric patients. Understanding this relationship could have significant implications for identifying high-risk individuals and implementing timely interventions. A systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted in the primary electronic databases from inception until January 2023. Overall, four studies with a total of 740 patients were eligible for our analysis. Evidence demonstrates that PhA is associated with nutritional status, reflecting undernutrition and changes in body composition related to illness. This review suggests that PhA can indeed be used as an indicator of nutritional status and a tool for predicting prognosis, including mortality and poor-outcomes, in hospitalized pediatric patients. A low PhA was associated with a significant mortality risk [RR:1.51;95%CI (1.22-1.88),p = 0.0002;I2 = 0%,(p = 0.99)] and an increased complications risk [OR:8.17;95%CI (2.44-27.4),p = 0.0007;I2 = 44%,(p = 0.18)]. These findings highlight the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to clinical nutrition, integrating multiple evaluation aspects to establish an accurate diagnosis and personalized therapeutic plans. While PhA emerges as a valuable tool for assessing the risk of malnutrition and as a prognostic-indicator for poor-outcomes in pediatric patients. Further future studies are needed to focus on investigating this relationship in larger and diverse population to strengthen the evidence base.

Abstract
(1) Background: This study aimed to assess body composition (BC) using bioelectrical impedance and food intake in juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) patients. Associations between BC and physical activity, disease activity/cumulative damage and health-related quality of life parameters were also evaluated; (2) Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 30 consecutive JDM patients (18 female and 12 male) and 24 healthy volunteers (14 female and 10 male) of both sexes followed at our pediatric rheumatology unit. The gathering of anthropometric and dietary data, and the performance of physical activity and bioelectrical impedance were undertaken in face-to-face meetings and through questionnaires. Clinical and therapeutic data were collected from medical records according to information from routine medical appointments; (3) Results: The frequency of high/very high body fat was significantly higher in controls compared with JDM patients (66.7% vs. 91.7%; p = 0.046). The median phase angle was significantly lower in patients compared with controls (5.2 ± 1.3 vs. 6.1 ± 1.0; p = 0.016). Body fat and lean mass were positively correlated with disease duration (rs = +0.629, p < 0.001 and rs = +0.716, p < 0.001, respectively) and phase angle (PhA) (rs = +0.400, p = 0.029 and rs = +0.619, p < 0.001, respectively). JDM patients with PhA ≥ 5.5 presented higher lean mass when compared with patients with PhA < 5.5 (p = 0.001); (4) Conclusions: Bioelectrical impedance can be a useful auxiliary exam in the medical and nutritional follow-up of JDM patients, because it seems to impact functional ability. These findings may assist professionals when advising JDM patients about the importance of physical activity and healthy eating in the preservation of lean mass.

Abstract
Children with cancer require adequate nutritional support to prevent malnutrition. This study investigated the impact of chemotherapy on anthropometrical status and body composition during the first six months of treatment. Anthropometrical status and body composition were measured at diagnosis, utilizing standardized protocols and validated S10 InBody bio-electrical impedance (BIA) measurements and compared to subsequent consecutive monthly follow-up measurements to plot changes over time during the first six months. Statistical significance was defined as p < 0.05. Forty-three newly diagnosed children (median age 4 years, IQR: 2.0-7.6; male-female ratio 1:0.9; 53% haematological malignancies and 47% solid tumors) were included. Prevalence of malnutrition varied, with under-nutrition 14% (mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC)/body mass index (BMI)), over-nutrition 9.3% (BMI) and stunting 7% at diagnosis. MUAC (14%) identified fewer participants with underlying muscle store depletion than BIA (41.8%). Chemotherapy exposure acutely exacerbated existing nutritional depletion during the first two months after diagnosis for all variables except fat mass (FM), with contrary effects on cancer type. Haematological malignancies had rapid increases in weight, BMI and FM. All patients had an acute loss of skeletal muscle mass. Nutritional improvement experienced by all cancer types during month two to three of treatment resulted in catch-up growth, with a significant increase in weight (chi2=40.43, p < 0.001), height (chi2=53.79, p < 0.001), BMI (chi2=16.32, p < 0.005), fat free mass (chi2=23.69, p < 0.003) and skeletal muscle mass (chi2=24.19, p < 0.001) after six months. Monthly nutritional assessments, including advanced body composition measurements, are essential to provide timely nutritional interventions to overcome the acute decline in nutritional reserves observed during the first two months of chemotherapy exposure.

Abstract
Background The study aimed to investigate the association of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) for predicting clinical outcomes in critically ill children. Methods This single-center prospective observational study included patients admitted to a mixed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). All patients underwent anthropometric measurement and BIA measurements in the first 24 h of admission. The patients were classified into different groups based on body mass index (BMI) for age. Electronic hospital medical records were reviewed to collect clinical data for each patient. All the obtained data were analyzed by the statistical methods. Results There were 231 patients enrolled in our study, of which 31.6% were diagnosed with malnutrition. The phase angle (PhA) of 90-day survivors was significantly higher than that of the non-survivors (4.3° ± 1.1°vs. 3.1° ± 0.9°, P = 0.02). The age-adjusted Spearman partial correlation analysis showed a weak negative correlation between PhA and duration of medical ventilation (rs = -0.42, P < 0.05). Furthermore, length of stay in PICU has a very weak correlation with ECW/TBW (rs = 0.29, P < 0.05), and a negative correlation with protein (rs = -0.27, P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis found that PhA was a significant predictor associated with the 90-day mortality when it was adjusted for PRISM III score (adjusted OR = 1.51, CI: 1.10–2.07, p = 0.01). The area under the ROC (AUROC) of PhA for predicting 90-day mortality was 0.69 (95% CI: 0.53–0.85, p < 0.05), and the cutoff value of PhA was 3.0°, with a sensitivity and specificity of 83 and 53%, respectively. Conclusion BIA-derived PhA was found to be an independent predictor of 90-day mortality among critically ill children. A low PhA was associated with a prolonged duration of medical ventilation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inflammation and immobility are the most relevant mechanisms that alter protein synthesis and increase protein breakdown. Protein catabolism is associated with morbidity and mortality in critically ill children. OBJECTIVE To demonstrate the effectiveness of the routinely used enteral nutrition support guideline in preventing muscle breakdown in critically ill children. METHODS A prospective cohort study was conducted in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of a tertiary care hospital. Critically ill children (aged 1 month to 15 years) admitted to the PICU were enrolled. All patients were assessed for nutritional status and nutritional requirement. Enteral nutrition support following the guideline was initiated within the first 24 hours if no contraindication. The calorie target was defined either by direct measurement from indirect calorimetry or estimated from Schofield equation with protein target at least 1.5 g/kg/day. Anthropometric assessments and body composition measurements by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) were examined at baseline and on the seventh day of the PICU admission. RESULTS Sixty-three patients were enrolled in the study. The most common age group was 1-5 years old (38.1%). The length of PICU stay was 9.1 (SD = 12.7) days. Respiratory problems were the major cause of PICU admission (50.8%). Mechanical ventilation was required in 55.6% of the patients with the average duration of 6.3 (SD = 12.4) days. Undernutrition was found in 36.5% of the patients. Enteral feeding was the major route of nutrition support (95.2%). After the first week of admission, muscle mass was significantly preserved (p < 0.01). All patients received the nutrition support at their target energy and protein goal within the first week. The enteral feeding-related complication was reported in 1.6% of the patients. CONCLUSION Protein catabolism during critically ill period can be minimized by optimal nutrition support. Nutrition practice using the enteral nutrition support guideline was effective in helping critically ill children reach their target caloric and protein intake.

Abstract
Introduction Several scoring systems are available to assess the severity of sepsis in pediatric patients in diverse settings worldwide. This study investigates the quality and applicability of predictive models for determining pediatric sepsis mortality, especially in acute care and limited-resource settings. Data sources Mortality prediction factors and models were searched in four databases using the following criteria: developed for pediatric health care, especially in acute settings, and with mortality as an outcome. Study selection Two or more reviewers performed the study selection to ensure no bias occurred. Any disagreements were solved by consensus or by the decision of a third reviewer. Data extraction The authors extracted the results and mapped the selected studies qualitatively to describe the prognostic properties of the risk factors and models proposed in the study. Data synthesis The final analysis included 28 mortality prediction models. Their characteristics, analysis, and performance measures were summarized. Performance was described in terms of calibration and discrimination, including assessing for risk of bias and applicability. A modified version of the PRISM-III score based on physiologic criteria (PRISM-III-APS) increased its predictive value to 0.85-0.95. The vasoactive-inotropic score at 12 h had a strong independent association with death. Albumin had an excellent predictive value when combined with other variables. Lactate, a biomarker widely measured in patients with sepsis, was highly associated with mortality. The bioimpedance phase angle was not considered applicable in our setting. Measurement using more straightforward methods, such as mid-upper arm circumference, was feasible in numerous health care facilities. Conclusion Leveraging prognostic models to predict mortality among pediatric patients with sepsis remains an important and well-recognized area of study. While much validation and development work remains to be done, available prognostic models could aid clinicians at the bedside of children with sepsis. Furthermore, mortality prediction models are essential and valuable tools for assessing the quality of care provided to critically ill pediatric patients.

Abstract
Muscle wasting is now recognized as a growing, debilitating problem in critically ill adults, resulting in long-term deficits in function and an impaired quality of life. Ultrasonography has demonstrated decreases in skeletal muscle size during pediatric critical illness, although variations exist. However, muscle protein turnover patterns during pediatric critical illness are unclear. Understanding muscle protein turnover during critical illness is important in guiding interventions to reduce muscle wasting. The aim of this review was to explore the possible protein synthesis and breakdown patterns in pediatric critical illness. Muscle protein turnover studies in critically ill children are lacking, with the exception of those with burn injuries. Children with burn injuries demonstrate an elevation in both muscle protein breakdown (MPB) and synthesis during critical illness. Extrapolations from animal models and whole-body protein turnover studies in children suggest that children may be more dependent on anabolic factors (e.g., nutrition and growth factors), and may experience greater muscle degradation in response to insults than adults. Yet, children, particularly the younger ones, are more responsive to anabolic agents, suggesting modifiable muscle wasting during critical illness. There is a lack of evidence for muscle wasting in critically ill children and its correlation with outcomes, possibly due to current available methods to study muscle protein turnover in children-most of which are invasive or tedious. In summary, children may experience muscle wasting during critical illness, which may be more reversible by the appropriate anabolic agents than adults. Age appears an important determinant of skeletal muscle turnover. Less invasive methods to study muscle protein turnover and associations with long-term outcome would strengthen the evidence for muscle wasting in critically ill children.

Abstract
No systematic, universally accepted method of diagnosing malnutrition in hospitalized patients exists, which may contribute to underdiagnosis, undertreatment, and poorer patient outcomes. To address this issue, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is conducting a cohort study to: assess the predictive validity of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics/American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition indicators for the diagnosis of adult and pediatric malnutrition in hospital settings; assess the interrater reliability of the indicators for the diagnosis of adult and pediatric malnutrition; and quantify the level of registered dietitian nutritionist care needed to improve patient outcomes. Up to 60 adult and 60 pediatric hospital sites will collect data to estimate level of registered dietitian nutritionist care, along with patient medical history and Malnutrition Screening Tool (adult) or STRONGkids (pediatric) results. A subset of 600 adult and 600 pediatric patients (∼1:1 screened as high- or low-risk for malnutrition) will be randomly selected for the indicators for the diagnosis of adult and pediatric malnutrition and Nutrition Focused Physical Exam data collection; 100 adult and 100 pediatric patients in this group will also undergo a bioelectrical impedance analysis measurement. Additional nutrition care and medical outcomes (eg, mortality and length of stay) will be collected for a 3-month period after the initial nutrition encounter. Multilevel linear, logistic, Poisson, or Cox regression models will be used to assess indicators for the diagnosis of adult and pediatric malnutrition validity and registered dietitian nutritionist staffing levels as appropriate for each medical outcome. Validation results will allow US clinicians to standardize the way they diagnose malnutrition in hospitalized patients, and the staffing data will support advocacy for available registered dietitian nutritionist-delivered malnutrition treatment to improve patient outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in children is determined using anthropometry. However, bio-electrical impedance (BI) analysis could improve the estimation of altered body composition linked to edema and/or loss of lean body mass in children with SAM. We aimed to assess: 1) the changes in BI parameters during clinical stabilization and 2) whether BI parameters add prognostic value for clinical outcome beyond the use of anthropometry. METHODS This prospective observational study enrolled children, aged 6-60 months, that were admitted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi, for complicated SAM (i.e., having either severe wasting or edematous SAM with a complicating illness). Height, weight, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), and BI were measured on admission and after clinical stabilization. BI measures were derived from height-adjusted indices of resistance (R/H), reactance (Xc/H), and phase angle (PA) and considered to reflect body fluids and soft tissue in BI vector analysis (BIVA). RESULTS We studied 183 children with SAM (55% edematous; age 23.0 ± 12.0 months; 54% male) and 42 community participants (age 20.1 ± 12.3 months; male 62%). Compared to community participants, the BIVA of children with edematous SAM were short with low PA and positioned low on the hydration axis which reflects severe fluid retention. In contrast, children with severe wasting had elongated vectors with a PA that was higher than children with edematous SAM but lower than community participants. Their BIVA position fell within the top right quadrant linked to leanness and dehydration. BIVA from severely wasted and edematous SAM patients differed between groups and from community children both at admission and after stabilization (p < 0.001). Vector position shifted during treatment only in children with edematous SAM (p < 0.001) and showed a upward translation suggestive of fluid loss. While PA was lower in children with SAM, PA did not contribute more than anthropometry alone towards explaining mortality, length of stay, or time-to-discharge or time-to-mortality. The variability and heterogeneity in BI measures was high and their overall added predictive value for prognosis of individual children was low. CONCLUSIONS BIVA did not add prognostic value over using anthropometry alone to predict clinical outcome. Several implementation challenges need to be optimized. Thus, in low-resource settings, the routine use of BI in the management of pediatric malnutrition is questionable without improved implementation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Change in hydration is common in children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) including during treatment, but is difficult to assess. We investigated the utility of bio-electrical impedance vector analysis (BIVA), a quick non-invasive method, for indexing hydration during treatment. METHODS We studied 350 children 0·5-14 years of age with SAM (mid-upper arm circumference <11·0 cm or weight-for-height <70% of median, and/or nutritional oedema) admitted to a hospital nutrition unit, but excluded medically unstable patients. Weight, height (H), resistance (R), reactance (Xc) and phase angle (PA) were measured and oedema assessed. Similar data were collected from 120 healthy infants and preschool/school children for comparison. Means of height-adjusted vectors (R/H, Xc/H) from SAM children were interpreted using tolerance and confidence ellipses of corresponding parameters from the healthy children. RESULTS SAM children with oedema were less wasted than those without (p < 0·001), but had BIVA parameters that differed more from those of healthy children (P < 0·05) than those non-oedematous. Initially, both oedematous and non-oedematous SAM children had mean vectors outside the reference 95% tolerance ellipse. During treatment, mean vectors migrated differently in the two SAM groups, indicating fluid loss in oedematous patients, and tissue accretion in non-oedematous patients. At admission, R/H was lower (oedematous) or higher (non-oedematous) among children who died than those who exited the hospital alive. CONCLUSIONS BIVA can be used in children with SAM to distinguish tissue-vs. hydration-related weight changes during treatment, and also identify children at high risk of death enabling early clinical interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Critically ill children are at increased risk of weight deterioration in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Whether early initiation of parenteral nutrition (PN) prevents weight deterioration is unknown. The aims of this study were to assess the effect of withholding supplemental PN during the first week on weight Z-score change in PICU and to evaluate the association between weight Z-score change in the PICU and clinical outcomes. METHODS This is a secondary analysis of the Paediatric Early versus Late Parenteral Nutrition in Intensive Care Unit (PEPaNIC) randomised controlled trial (N = 1440), which focused on the subgroup of patients with longitudinal weight Z-scores available on admission and on the last day in PICU. Patients were randomly allocated to initiation of supplemental PN after one week (Late-PN) or within 24 h (Early-PN) when enteral nutrition was insufficient. The effect of Late-PN versus Early-PN on the change in weight Z-score was investigated, adjusted for risk factors. Moreover, the association between weight Z-score change and clinical outcomes was explored, adjusted for risk factors. RESULTS Longitudinal weight Z-scores were available for 470 patients. Enteral nutrition intake was equal in the Early-PN and Late-PN group. Less weight Z-score deterioration during PICU stay was associated with a lower risk of new infections (adjusted OR per Z-score increase 0.72 [0.55-0.96], p = 0.02), and with a higher likelihood of an earlier discharge from PICU alive (adjusted HR per Z-score increase 1.22 [1.10-1.37], p < 0.001). During PICU-stay, the change in weight Z-score did not differ among both groups (Late-PN median 0.00 [-0.34-0.12] vs Early-PN median -0.03 [-0.48-0.01], adjusted β = 0.10 [-0.05-0.25], p = 0.18). CONCLUSIONS Weight deterioration during the PICU stay was associated with worse clinical outcomes. Withholding supplemental PN during the first week did not aggravate weight Z-score deterioration during PICU stay. TRIAL REGISTRATION clinicaltrials.gov NCT01536275.
