Abstract
Comprehending the significance of legacy in end-of-life (EoL) situations helps palliative care professionals enhance person-centered outcomes for those with a life-threatening illness and their families. Our purpose was to conduct a concept analysis of legacy in EoL care. By employing Walker and Avant's approach, we identified the concept's defining characteristics. Subsequently, we established the antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents. After conducting a thorough review of titles and abstracts, a total of 30 publications were analyzed. These articles were sourced from three databases (CINAHL, Medline via PubMed, and Scopus) from 2002 to 2023. Our analysis identified several core attributes of legacy: (a) leave behind something of value that transcends death; (b) determine how people want to be remembered; (c) build and bestow across generations; (d) integrate advance care planning through EoL conversations and shared decision-making; and (e) develop strategies of dignity-conserving care. The consequences are related to improvements in spiritual and subjective well-being; coping with inevitable EoL existential issues; decreases in EoL suffering; engendering self-awareness, hope, gratitude, and peace; achieving and maintaining dignity; creating good memories; promoting mutually constructive and transformative relationships; and fostering the adjustment of bereaved people. Nevertheless, further effort is required to implement the key attributes of legacy that form the basis for creating legacy-oriented interventions near the EoL.

Abstract
Background: Legacy building is a priority for pediatric oncology. Storytelling is one strategy to help children document their legacies. Understanding story content would advance knowledge of how children want to be remembered but this has yet to be explored. This study explored content of digital stories created by children with advanced cancer. Method: Facebook advertisements were used to recruit families of children (7-17) with relapsed/refractory cancer to participate in a randomized controlled trial testing a legacy intervention through storytelling. Parent-child dyads (N = 150) were randomly assigned to an intervention or usual care group. A web program guided children to answer legacy questions and upload photographs, movies, and music. Families received the final digital stories. Experienced qualitative coders developed a hierarchical coding system to identify major categories/subcategories within 78 stories. Results: Stories included 1,516 unique story entries, including text, photographs, and movies. Two major categories emerged from the data: (a) story entry medium and (b) story content. Photographs frequently reflected people, objects, pets, and places while text often described personal preferences, goals, dreams, and other people. The story content overall included references to (a) people, (b) setting/location, (c) cancer, (d) objects/activities, and (e) expression of emotions/beliefs. Exemplar quotes, counts, and frequencies for each category are reported. Discussion: Children documented their legacies through stories that emphasized the value of family relationships and children's desires to be known for personal traits/preferences. Children chose to include cancer in their stories, indicating that cancer is a part of how children perceive their legacies. Registration Number: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04059393.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the effect of a nurse support using a proactive mobile app to enhance parental self-efficacy in symptom management for children with medical complexity. DESIGN A single-blinded, randomized controlled trial with a two-armed repeated measures design. METHODS Eligible parents and the children will be recruited from the special schools and non-government offices. They will be randomly assigned either to the intervention or control groups. Subjects in the study group will receive nurse parental support using a symptom management mobile app for 3 months. The control group will receive the usual care that is available in the community. Data will be collected pre-intervention (T1), immediately after the intervention (T2), and three-month after intervention (T3). The primary outcome is parental self-efficacy. The secondary outcomes include child's symptom burden and their health service utilization. Primary outcome will be compared across two groups in T2 and T3 using with control for the pre-test value of parental self-efficacy. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) will be used to address secondary objectives from T1 to T3 with appropriate link function. DISCUSSION As a result of the successful implementation of this nurse-led symptom management, parental self-efficacy will be enhanced. Both the symptoms reported by the children and their health service utilization will be reduced. Findings of this study will help in service delivery improvements because it maximizes the availability and accessibility of paediatric health service to parents and the children in local communities. IMPACT The evidence produced in this study will enlarge the knowledge base that supports evidence-based paediatric home nursing service with the use of health technology in symptom management. This evidence will also contribute to the development of other symptom management programs for other paediatric patient groups. TRIAL REGISTRATION NCT05765643 (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier). PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Parents of children with medical complexity contributed in mobile application development by giving comments on the usability of mobile application. IMPACT WILL BE GENERATED THROUGH THE FOLLOWING BENEFITS Improve health service delivery: Home nursing service may not be sustainable in a long run in Hong Kong, as the health care system has been facing a serious nursing workforce shortage in recent years. Besides, these services are affected or even suspended during the community outbreak of infectious disease, like recent coronavirus disease pandemic. Nurse parental support in symptom management for the CMC using a proactive mobile health application will help in service delivery improvements because it maximizes the availability and accessibility of paediatric health service to parents and their CMC in local communities. Improve physical and psychological health of parents and their CMC: The success of program implementation will help to increase parental self-efficacy in symptom management for their CMC, as a result of decrease of children's symptom burden. Improve knowledge base: The evidence produced in this study will (1) enlarge the knowledge base that supports evidence-based paediatric community nursing service related to symptom management for the CMC. This evidence will contribute to the development of other symptom management programs for other paediatric patient groups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Legacy-oriented interventions have the potential to offer pediatric oncology patients and families comfort at end of life and during bereavement. Certified child life specialists often provide these services, and presently little is known about whether disparities exist in the provision of legacy-oriented interventions. METHODS In this retrospective decedent cohort study, we examined demographic and clinical characteristics from a sample of 678 pediatric oncology patients who died between 2015 and 2019. Bivariate analysis assessed differences between patients who received any versus no legacy-oriented intervention. Uni- and multivariable logistic regression models assessed associations of baseline characteristics and likelihood of receiving legacy-oriented intervention. Further multivariable analysis explored joint effects of significant variables identified in the univariable analysis. RESULTS Fifty-two percent of patients received a legacy-oriented intervention. Older adolescents (≥13 years) were less likely (odds ratio [OR]: 1.73, p = .007) to receive legacy-oriented interventions than younger ones. Patients with home/hospice deaths were also less likely (OR: 19.98, p < .001) to receive interventions compared to patients who passed away at SJCRH locations. Hispanic patients (OR: 1.53, p = .038) and those in palliative care (OR: 10.51, p < .001) were more likely to receive interventions. No significant race association was noted. CONCLUSION All children and adolescents with cancer deserve quality care at end of life, including access to legacy-oriented interventions, yet nearly half of patients in this cohort did not receive these services. By identifying demographic and clinical characteristics associated with decreased odds of receiving legacy-oriented interventions, healthcare professionals can modify end-of-life care processes to improve access. Introducing legacy-oriented interventions early and increasing exposure in community spaces may enhance access to legacy-oriented interventions for pediatric oncology patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Dignity therapy (DT) is well-established in adults, and it might potentially benefit the younger population. This study aims to develop a pediatric family-based dignity therapy (P-FBDT) protocol for terminally ill children and their families. METHODS A parallel mixed-methods design was used. The P-FBDT protocol was developed based on the adult DT, and meanwhile by taking children-specific dignity characteristics and Chinese family-oriented culture into consideration. The protocol was then evaluated and modified based on the quantitative and qualitative feedback from 2-round surveys of 14 pediatric oncology or pediatric palliative care experts. RESULTS The P-FBDT involves terminally ill children and their families in meaningful interactions including a series of conversations and creative activities, which will be recorded and then edited into a document-based generativity entity. The P-FBDT protocol was recognized as highly reasonable and the P-FBDT interview guide was endorsed as important, acceptable, clear, comprehensive, and suitable to be used in pediatric palliative care practice in Chinese culture (>90%). Potential benefits, possible challenges, and practical considerations of the P-FBDT were also proposed. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS The P-FBDT was perceived to be potentially beneficial to terminally ill children and their families by engaging in a series of meaningful family interactions and creating a lasting memento to be preserved. The protocol needs to be pilot tested among terminally ill children and families for feasibility and potential efficacy in practice.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of the study was to examine the effectiveness of digital storytelling as a therapeutic care intervention in paediatric day surgery. DESIGN AND METHODS his study was conducted in a randomized controlled experimental design. Seventy-two voluntary children who were scheduled for day surgery and met the inclusion criteria for the study were included. Research data were collected using the Child's Descriptive Information Form, the Children's Emotional Manifestation Scale, and the State Anxiety Inventory for Children. The study group used digital storytelling to prepare for day surgery. RESULTS State anxiety scores decreased over time in the study group. The digital storytelling intervention was found to be effective in reducing anxiety scores. In the control group, state anxiety scores were highest on the day of the surgery. Children in the control group experienced higher levels of anxiety on the day of the surgery compared to those in the study group. The high anxiety levels in the control group continued at a higher level even two weeks after surgery. Children in the control group exhibited more negative emotional behaviors on the day of the surgery. CONCLUSION The digital storytelling intervention implemented in this research was found to be effective in reducing children's anxiety and negative emotional behaviors. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Digital storytelling should be applied and adapted to various other areas of paediatric surgery. Its utilization is significant for nurses working in the field of day surgery.

Abstract
CONTEXT Although spiritual intervention is crucial in the care of childhood cancer patients (CCPs), its effectiveness has not yet been systematically evaluated. OBJECTIVES To determine the effectiveness of existing spiritual interventions on psychological, spiritual outcomes, and quality of life (QoL) in CCPs. METHODS We searched eight databases to identify relevant randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials. Results were either synthesized in a systematic narrative synthesis or a meta-analysis using a random effects model, where appropriate. The pooled treatment effect was estimated using the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS Twelve studies with 576 CCPs were included. Eight studies showed a high risk of bias. The overall effect of existing spiritual interventions on QoL (Z = 1.05, SMD = 0.64, 95%CI = -0.15 to 1.83, P = 0.29), anxiety (Z = 1.11, SMD = -0.83, 95%CI = -2.30 to 0.64, P = 0.28) and depressive symptoms (Z = 1.06, SMD = -0.49, 95%CI = -1.40 to 0.42, P = 0.12) were statistically nonsignificant. The nonsignificant findings could be attributed to the high heterogeneity among the included studies (QoL: I2 = 85%; anxiety: I2 = 90%; depressive symptoms: I2 = 58%). CONCLUSION Evidence to support the positive effects of existing spiritual interventions on psychological and spiritual outcomes and QoL in CCPs is insufficient. Future studies should adopt a more rigorous design and unify the outcome measures to reduce the risk of bias and heterogeneity, respectively.

Abstract
AIM To provide an analysis of legacy and legacy-oriented interventions in paediatric healthcare. DESIGN Walker and Avant's method of concept analysis. METHODS Using Walker and Avant's method, three defining attributes of the concept were determined, followed by antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents of legacy. RESULTS In paediatrics, legacy is co-authored in relationships, has the capability to outlive the person or event it represents, and elicits the essence of a person or experience. Receiving legacy-oriented interventions are not a prerequisite for having a legacy, nor is death. CONCLUSION Engaging in purposeful, individualized legacy-oriented interventions can improve coping in paediatric patients, families, and providers. By understanding the concept of legacy, providers are better equipped to provide care honouring the unique personhood, relationships, and strengths of children and families in even the most dire circumstances. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE Understanding the scope and purpose of legacy in paediatrics assists providers in improving patient- and family-centred outcomes by designing interventions that facilitate long-term coping in patients facing a loss of or significant change in health, normalcy, or life. IMPACT Legacy-oriented interventions are provided at most children's hospitals in the United States, yet no widespread consensus on foundation or scope has been determined. Abstract
An emerging body literature exists highlighting the use of Digital Storytelling as an educational, and/or therapeutic intervention. Authors of this manuscript have studied Digital Storytelling as a narrative bereavement intervention designed to help individuals make meaning of adverse life events, like the death of a family member. Until recently, Digital Storytelling is typically delivered in person. The purpose of this article is to describe the steps to implementing Digital Storytelling as a bereavement intervention in a completely virtual setting, using Zoom technology. Best practices and lessons learned for the virtual delivery of Digital Storytelling are provided.

Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to determine the feasibility and acceptability of using videography to alleviate the stress of anticipatory mourning in pediatric palliative care patients. A secondary aim was to expand palliative/end of life care research by performing a more comprehensive examination of children's experiences with life-shortening illness. Methods: Eligible patients ages eight and older made a legacy video with the assistance of investigative staff and completed a questionnaire to evaluate their emotional states before and after making the video. Bereaved parents also received a questionnaire to assess the impact of the legacy. Results: Nine patients enrolled and eight completed the study through the therapeutic exit interview. Most reported decreased anxiety and a positive experience. Conclusion: Therapeutic videography is feasible and acceptable to accomplish and can improve the emotional state of participants. Conducting research requiring active participation of patients very near the end of life proved to be challenging.

Abstract
Background Providing specially trained volunteer navigators is one promising strategy for supporting the increasing number of family caregivers who are caring for children living with medical complexity. Objective The objective of this study was to develop consensus on the role and competencies required for volunteer navigators who support caregivers of children living with medical complexity. Design This was a mixed-method study using modified e-Delphi and focus group methods. In phase 1, a modified e-Delphi survey with 20 family caregivers and a focus group with 4 family caregivers were conducted to develop consensus on their unmet needs and the potential roles of a volunteer to meet those needs. In phase 2, a modified e-Delphi survey was conducted with experts to develop consensus on the volunteer competencies required to meet the roles identified by family caregivers in phase 1. Results Findings from phase 1 resulted in 36 need-related items over 8 domains: communication, daily life and chores, emotional support, information and knowledge, respite, support with decision-making, and sharing the caregiving experience. Concerns about the volunteer role included the potential lack of commitment in the absence of remuneration, the complexity of the child's condition that was beyond the role of a volunteer, and a preference for support from individuals they knew. Findings from the phase 2 Delphi survey with professionals resulted in 22 competencies, derived from the roles identified in phase 1, that would be required of volunteers who wished to support these family caregivers. Conclusion This study provides insight into a role for volunteers in meeting the needs of family caregivers of children living with medical complexity. A volunteer with lived experience and adequate preparation can assist with meeting some of these important needs. Further research is required to better understand the feasibility and acceptability of such a role.

Abstract
Family care is essential to pediatric nursing practice, as the entire family is affected by childhood illness. However, little is known about art making for therapeutic purposes and how art is used to better understand families' experiences. Our purpose was to examine the nature of arts-based interventions and research methods used with, and the experiences of families of children facing life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses, and those families who are bereaved. Academic peer-reviewed sources published between January 1999 and May 2022 were retrieved via four databases using key search terms. Twenty-five articles were analyzed, resulting in three multifaceted categories including Social, Emotional, and Family Health. Critical strengths and limitations were also identified. Art making has been incorporated into interventions and research studies due to its benefits for family well-being. Understanding the potential of art making can inspire nurses to implement such activities to enhance family nursing practice and research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Chochinov Dignity Model was developed based on a cohort of adult patients with advanced cancer, but its role among dying children is not clear. This study aims to develop a model of dignity for children receiving pediatric palliative care based on the Chochinov Dignity Model. METHODS This is a descriptive qualitative study. Participants included a total of 11 parents and 14 healthcare providers who were recruited from a tertiary children's hospital in Beijing and the Pediatric Palliative Care Subspecialty Group of the Pediatrics Society of the Chinese Medical Association using purposive sampling. Thematic framework analysis was used to analyze data. RESULTS The themes of the empirical Dignity Model were broadly supported in this study, but some themes were interpreted differently in the child population. Compared with the original model, some child-specific themes were identified including acknowledging regret, a sense of security, the company of important loved ones, realizing unfinished wishes, decent and dignified death, resolving family disputes, and fairness. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study on Dignity Model for terminal children. Knowledge of children's dignity can promote reflection of healthcare providers and caregivers regarding the values underlying their performance in pediatric palliative care, and develop certain practical interventions to strengthen children and their families' sense of dignity at end of life.

Abstract
Digital Storytelling (DS) is a narrative intervention that supports participants' ability to find meaning in their life experiences - in this case, bereavement after child death. Thirteen (N = 13) bereaved parents engaged in a DS workshop in which they created a story about the death of their child. Using a descriptive phenomenological approach, researchers explored participants' experience with child death via their completed digital stories. Results highlight connection as a pathway to meaning making for bereaved parents who participate in DS, specifically in regard to connection with other bereaved parents and connection with their deceased child via telling their story.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Palliative care guidelines recommend an interdisciplinary approach to address patients' awareness of mortality and need for end-of-life preparation. An ethical will is a nonlegal way to address mortality by communicating a lasting and intangible legacy of values to others. The aim of this scoping review is to clarify the operationalization of ethical wills across disciplines and map the purposes and outcomes of creating an ethical will. METHODS We followed the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for scoping reviews. We searched 14 databases in November 2019 and January 2021 without filtering publication date or type. Two reviewers independently screened 1,948 publications. We extracted frequently used terms describing content, audience, format, purpose, and outcomes identified in ethical will creation. RESULTS Fifty-one publications met inclusion criteria. Six (11.7%) were research articles. Twenty-four (47.1%) were lay literature published within law, estate, and financial planning. Collectively, our included studies defined an ethical will as a nonlegal way to express values, beliefs, life lessons and experiences, wisdom, love, history, hope for the future, blessings, apology, or forgiveness using any format (e.g., text, audio, video) that is meant to be shared with family, friends, or community. The most common purposes were to be remembered, address mortality, clarify life's meaning, and communicate what matters most. Creation provided opportunity to learn about self, served as a gift to both writer and recipient, and fostered generativity and sense of symbolic immortality. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS Our findings highlight interdisciplinary utilization and a lack of research of ethical wills. This review provides supportive evidence for ethical wills as a way for patients to address mortality, renew intergenerational connections, solidify self, and promote transcendence before their final days. Ethical wills have potential to be incorporated into interdisciplinary palliative care in the future to address psychological symptoms for patients anticipating the end of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recurrent or refractory cancer often results in substantial and extensive physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual burdens for children and their families. However, the therapeutic benefits of legacy interventions in children with recurrent or refractory cancer have been examined only recently, with limited attention to specific effects on children's coping abilities. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a digital storytelling-legacy intervention on the adaptive coping of children with recurrent or refractory cancer. METHODS This study used a 2-arm randomized, waitlist-controlled trial design. A total of 150 children with recurrent or refractory cancer and their parents were recruited via Facebook advertisements. RESULTS The analysis sample included 92 dyads (35-intervention group, 57-control group). The legacy intervention showed small and statistically nonsignificant effects on primary-control and disengagement coping strategies among children with recurrent or refractory cancer. CONCLUSIONS Legacy interventions using readily accessible digital storytelling have the potential to enhance the adaptive coping skills among children with recurrent or refractory cancer. Further research should determine how to enhance interventions tailored to this population to optimize the benefits.

Abstract
Despite the increasing integration of arts-based methods within qualitative research, few expressive arts methods have been studied to understand their process, rationale and impact on the inquiry process. We conducted a grounded theory study on family experiences of paediatric HSCT where we simultaneously adapted and studied a 'dialoguing with images' (DI) expressive arts process as method. Fifteen family members participated in two interviews, drew an image and were guided through the DI method. We articulate the social process shared by researchers, participants and the images as they co-constructed knowledge through the DI method. The four distinct phases of the method include: 1) containing the imaginative space within an outer and inner frame, 2) creating an embodied image: image work is an expressive, generative process, 3) a shared, participatory aesthetic interpretation and 4) crystallizing stories of illness. The findings are grounded in expressive arts theory and philosophy, hermeneutics and analytical art psychotherapy theory.

Abstract
Background: Researchers and clinicians must collaborate to consider alternative approaches to conduct standard protocol activities and deliver interventions during the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has required researchers at many institutions to modify traditional in-person research to virtually delivered activities and still adhere to healthcare ethical principles of beneficence, justice, and respect for persons. Our objective is to describe ethical considerations faced by nurse investigators who modified research conducted in pediatric oncology during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Review of research case examples. Results Two research study case examples are presented, including remote-participant recruitment via Facebook advertising and a virtually delivered web-based legacy intervention in a pediatric oncology randomized clinical trial. Challenges to modifying in-person approaches to remote strategies are also discussed, with examples of advantages and disadvantages presented from a study testing a human-animal interaction intervention for children with cancer. Discussion Our case information may assist other investigators in planning virtually delivered behavioral strategies for populations that may prefer the convenience of remote participation in research studies because of multiple family responsibilities in the care of a family member, during the pandemic and after. As researchers understand more about subjects' preferences to receive protocol activities (i.e., virtual vs. in-person delivery), they may be able to reduce risks of being unable to collect data because eligible subjects declined or withdrew from a study due to multiple-home responsibilities during the care of a family member with a serious or life-limiting condition.

Abstract
This paper explores the ethical dimension of the opportunity to offer improved electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) systems addressing personal needs of pediatric cancer patients, their parents and caregivers, with regard to technological advance of digital health. This opportunity has been explored in the MyPal research project, which aims to assess a patient-centered service for palliative care relying on the adaptation and extension of digital health tools and concepts available from previous projects. Development and implementation of ePROs need to take place in a safe, secure and responsible manner, preventing any possible harm and safeguarding the integrity of humans. To that end, although the final results will be published at the end of the project, this paper aims to increase awareness of the ethical ramifications we had to address in the design and testing of new technologies and to show the essentiality of protection and promotion of privacy, safety and ethical standards. We have thus reached a final design complying with the following principles: (a) respect for the autonomy of participants, especially children, (b) data protection and transparency, (c) fairness and non-discrimination, (d) individual wellbeing of participants in relation to their physical and psychological health status and e) accessibility and acceptability of digital health technologies for better user-engagement. These principles are adapted from the Ethics Guidelines for a trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI) which provide the framework for similar interventions to be lawful, complying with all applicable laws and regulations, ethical, ensuring compliance to ethical principles and values and robust, both from a technical and social perspective.

Abstract
Childhood cancer patients experience emotional hardship associated with their life-threatening diagnoses. Interdisciplinary team members working in pediatric cancer care can help alleviate physical pain and psychological suffering of children by facilitating collaborative legacy-building activities with patients and families. The contents of this article aim to support legacy building as a medium for emotional healing prior to the end of life. The authors use a case review to contextualize legacy-building projects and provide a comprehensive overview of methods and considerations for these initiatives.

Abstract
Background: Our 2012 survey of providers described legacy services offered at children's hospitals nationwide. Since then, the science related to legacy interventions has advanced, resulting in increased recognition of the importance of legacy services. Yet, legacy interventions offered by children's hospitals have not been recently described. Objective: To describe current legacy services offered by children's hospitals in the United States and compare with our previous results. Design: Descriptive cross-sectional design. Setting/Subjects: Participants included providers (N = 54) from teaching children's hospitals in the United States. Measurements: Electronic REDCap survey. Results: Similar to our prior research, 100% of respondents reported that their hospital offers legacy activities with 98% providing such services as a standard of care. Notable increased numbers of children are participating in legacy interventions compared with the previous study, now with 40% (compared with 9.5% previously) of participants reporting >50 children per year. Patients being offered legacy activities include neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients, those with life-threatening traumatic injuries, those on life support for extended periods of time, and those referred to hospice. Although not statistically significant, the percentage of hospitals offering legacy-making to children with cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and life-threatening illnesses is slightly increased from the prior time point. Conclusions: Children across developmental stages and illness contexts and their families can benefit from both the memories generated through the process of legacy services and the subsequent tangible products. Providers should continue to offer legacy opportunities to seriously ill children and their families across a wide array of settings and illness contexts.

Abstract
Participant recruitment for pediatric palliative intervention studies is a chronic challenge for researchers. Digital recruitment strategies, or digital technology-assisted recruitment methods used to remotely reach and enroll research subjects, can help address these recruitment challenges for pediatric palliative care clinical trials. This study (a) describes Facebook recruitment procedures targeting children with cancer and their parents for a pediatric palliative intervention randomized clinical trial, (b) reports recruitment results, and (c) discusses successful strategies to recruit pediatric populations via Facebook advertisements. Researchers used Facebook advertisements to recruit children with advanced cancer (aged 7 to 17 years) for a web-based legacy intervention. Between years 2015 and 2018, our research team enrolled 150 child-parent dyads (N= 300) to participate in the web-based legacy program. Results suggest that Facebook advertisements can be a successful tool to access and recruit pediatric populations with life-threatening conditions. Further research is needed to determine how innovative social-media recruitment strategies could be used in other populations of patients with serious illnesses and their caregivers to further advance the science in palliative care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer can have various psychosocial effects on children and young adults. Technology-based psychosocial interventions are increasingly popular in paediatric oncology for psychosocial health. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of technology-based psychosocial interventions applied to children, adolescent and young adults undergoing cancer treatment. METHODS Eight electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library (including Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials [CENTRAL]), CINAHL Plus with Full Text, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, ProQuest, Science Direct and Scopus were searched to identify eligible randomised controlled trials from 1 January 2010 up to 9 April 2021. Search results were limited to 'children, adolescent and young adults' 6-24 years undergoing cancer treatment. Randomised controlled studies in which technology-based psychosocial interventions were applied were examined. Of 4,927 articles, 12 articles met the inclusion criteria. Hedges' g effect size was computed for each study. Effect sizes and moderator variables were tested using random-effects models. This study is registered with PROSPERO, number CRD42020177787. RESULTS The outcomes were anger, anxiety, coping, depression, distress, quality of life and resilience. Compared with standard care, technology-based psychosocial interventions had a large effect and significantly on anger (g = -1.327, 95% CI: [-2.43, 0.22], anxiety (g = -0.89, 95%CI: [-1.34, -0.18], and depression (g = -1.05, 95% CI: [-1.65,-0.46]. Also, it was found that the duration of interventions had a significant moderator and effect size of the distress and resilience outcomes increased as the duration increased. CONCLUSION This meta-analysis demonstrated that technology-based psychosocial interventions served as an effective intervention as it appears to have implications reducing anger, anxiety and depression in paediatric oncology. Nevertheless, randomised controlled studies with larger samples still needed to establish evidence-based psycho-oncological interventions for paediatric oncology. Future research should develop interventions more graduated by duration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Memory making is the process of creating mementos of a child with a life limiting condition, who may be at or near end of life, providing a tangible and visual connection to the child who has died. AIM This study explored the lived experience a memory making process had on parents of children who were at or near end-of-life. DESIGN A qualitative approach was used. Hermeneutic phenomenology methods provided guidance to the data collection, with a more limited interpretative phenomenological analysis conducted. SETTING A purposive selected sample of 6 parents whose child had died and who had engaged in memory making participate. The sample was drawn from parents whose child had received care from a children's hospice. RESULTS Individual interviews were conducted with 6 parents, all mothers. Three main themes emerged: Making the memories; the impact of memory making; and the end-of-life care journey. Parents experienced an overwhelmingly positive impact from memory making, as well as tangible and precious mementos that were created. The positive impact the process had on coping with grief and loss was also demonstrated, as well as the effect of helping to keep the deceased child's memory alive and include them in conversation. CONCLUSIONS The importance of skilled and sensitive staff with the ability to introduce the concept of memory making, and choice at end of life were highlighted by the parents who took part. Clinicians may benefit from understanding how memory making can positively impact the bereavement experience of parents whose child has died.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the effects of a legacy intervention for children with advanced cancer and their parents on parental coping strategies. SAMPLE & SETTING The authors recruited 150 children with advanced cancer and their parents via Facebook. METHODS & VARIABLES Child-parent dyads were randomly assigned to the intervention or usual care. Children in the intervention group created electronic digital storyboards to assist in documenting their legacies. Parents completed the Responses to Stress Questionnaire at baseline/preintervention (T1) and postintervention (T2). Linear regressions were used to test for differences between the groups in the amount of change from T1 to T2 for each parent coping score. RESULTS Although not statistically significant, the legacy intervention showed trends toward increasing use of primary control and disengagement coping strategies in parents over time relative to usual care. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING Nurses can help to facilitate opportunities for parents to use adaptive coping strategies. More work is needed to determine how legacy interventions in pediatric oncology can facilitate adaptive coping strategies for parents of children with cancer.

Abstract
Investigations evaluating the effectiveness of music-based interventions as a complementary approach to symptom management and health promotion for cognitively-impaired children with life-limiting conditions and their families are needed to minimize the physical and psychological burdens on individuals and their caregivers. Songwriting is one music-based strategy for a remote family-centered complementary approach to improve outcomes for cognitively-impaired children with life-limiting conditions, their parents, and families. The overall purpose of this study is to test the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a songwriting intervention for cognitively-impaired children (ages 5-17 years) who are receiving palliative or complex care and their parents. Specific aims are to: (1) determine the feasibility of songwriting for cognitively-impaired children with life-limiting conditions and their parents, and (2) examine preliminary efficacy of songwriting for child psychological distress and physical symptoms, parent psychological distress, and family environment. The protocol for this 1-group pre-and post-intervention clinical trial (N = 25) is described.

Abstract
Background: Legacy-making (actions/behaviors aimed at being remembered) may be a significant component for quality of life (QOL) during advanced illness and end of life. Although legacy interventions have been tested in adults, the impact of legacy activities on QOL for children has yet to be clearly defined. Objective: This study examined the impact of our newly developed web-based legacy intervention on dimensions of QOL among children (7-17 years old) with advanced cancer. Design: This single-site randomized clinical trial (RCT) used a two-group waitlist control design. The legacy intervention guided children to create digital storyboards by directing them to answer legacy questions about themselves (personal characteristics, things they like to do, and connectedness with others) and upload photographs, video, and music. Setting/Subjects: Facebook advertisements recruited children (ages 7-17) with relapsed/refractory cancer and their parents from the United States. Child-parent dyads (N = 150) were randomized to the intervention or usual care group, and 97 dyads were included for analysis. Measurements: Children and parents completed the PedsQL Cancer Module preintervention (T1) and post-intervention (T2). Results: Although not statistically significant, legacy-making demonstrated small effects in child procedural anxiety and perceived physical appearance (Cohen's d 0.35-0.28) compared to the wait-list control group. Conclusions: This study contributes important discoveries, including support for the feasibility of a RCT web-based legacy intervention for children with advanced cancer. We did not find convincing evidence supporting the hypothesis that legacy-making improved child dimensions of QOL across time. Overall, this is a null study that warrants discussion on possible reasons for limited findings. Future legacy intervention research is needed using qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as child and parent reports, to determine how such services may improve dimensions of QOL for pediatric palliative care populations. Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of narrative therapy in relieving stigma in oral cancer patients who underwent major surgical treatment. BACKGROUND Health-related stigma compromises mental health and life quality in people with physical or mental abnormalities. Narrative therapy has been implemented to overcome stigma among populations in a diversity of disease states. However, the effectiveness of narrative therapy in relieving stigma among patients with oral cancer is not known. DESIGN This study was a randomized controlled trial, in which 100 oral cancer patients were selected and randomly assigned to the 'narrative therapy' group, who received narrative therapy treatment in addition to standard care, and the 'control' group, who was provided standard care only. METHODS This research combined measurement of several questionnaires to evaluate stigma. Analysis of variance and paired t tests were employed for data analysis. RESULTS Findings in this study demonstrated that narrative therapy treatment effectively relieved oral cancer patients' sense of shame, reducing overall stigma and significantly improving self-esteem and social relationships. CONCLUSIONS Narrative therapy was demonstrated to be a promising therapeutic intervention for stigma relief in oral cancer patients. SUMMARY STATEMENT What is already known about this topic? Stigma is common among oral cancer patients, especially those who undergo major surgical resection. Psychological intervention is highly recommended in addition to postsurgical care. Narrative therapy might help relieve stigma among oral cancer patients. What this paper adds? Conventional postsurgical care did not improve oral cancer patients' psychological situation. A 7-week intervention of narrative therapy treatment significantly reduced stigma and enhanced sense of self-worth and social support among oral cancer patients. The implications of this paper: Narrative therapy can be clinically accepted as a therapeutic approach to assist oral cancer patients with stigma after major surgery. Tailored approaches, including patient-customized methods, should be encouraged in conducting narrative therapy.

Abstract
Research is needed to examine new and innovative web-based intervention delivery methods that are feasible, cost-effective, and acceptable to children and their families to increase access to palliative care services in the home and community. Our previous work included the development of a legacy intervention using face-to-face digital storytelling for children with cancer that showed feasibility and strong promise to improve child outcomes. However, face-to-face intervention delivery techniques limited our recruitment, thus decreasing sample size and potential access to broader populations. Here we present the systematic steps of the development of a web-based legacy intervention for children (7-17 years of age) with relapsed or refractory cancer and their parent caregivers. Counts and frequencies for parent (n = 81) reports on satisfaction surveys are presented and parent suggestions for future work. Results suggest the web-based legacy intervention is feasible and acceptable, with parent-perceived beneficial outcomes for the child, parent, and family. Results provide a foundation for web-based intervention development in palliative care and the implementation of a theoretically grounded intervention to reduce suffering of seriously ill children and their family members, thereby advancing the science of symptom management in vulnerable palliative care populations.

Background: Children with cancer often experience decreased quality of life (QOL) throughout the illness trajectory. The purpose of this study was to explore the associations of demographic characteristics with QOL in children with advanced cancer. Methods: This secondary analysis was part of a larger randomized clinical trial that evaluated the efficacy of a legacy intervention for children (7-17 years) with relapsed/refractory cancer and their primary parent caregivers. Assessments included child self-reports on the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) Cancer Module. Researchers used descriptive and linear regression statistical methods. Results: Children (n = 128) averaged 10.9 years (SD = 3.0). The majority were female (n = 68, 53%), white (n = 107, 84%), had a hematologic malignancy (n = 67, 52%), with family incomes of $50,000 or less (n = 81, 63.3%). Statistically significant positive associations of both age and income level with PedsQL scores were observed (p < .05) but not gender (p > .05). The strongest correlations for age were with the procedural anxiety (beta = 0.42), treatment anxiety (beta = 0.26), and total (beta = 0.28) scores (all p < .01). In general, there was a positive correlation between family income levels and PedsQL scores (p < .05). The strongest correlations for income were with nausea (R = 0.49), appearance (R = 0.44), pain, and treatment anxiety (both R = 0.42) (all p < .01). Associations adjusted for age remained essentially the same (all p < .01). Discussion: Children with advanced cancer with lower family income and younger age are at high risk for poorer QOL. Oncology nurses should seek to identify families who may benefit from additional resources to promote QOL.

Abstract
Childhood cancer is a stressful experience. No pediatric patient, however, should be made to feel as if their concerns and feelings about their cancer experience must be bottled up inside. Importantly, talking and writing about one's illness has myriad implications for young cancer patients and survivors. The most salient of these may include increased understanding of one's condition as well as improved physical and cognitive symptoms (e.g., lowered depression, decreased anxiety, and an enhanced quality of life overall). This literature review explores three promising avenues for verbal therapy in the pediatric oncology setting: expressive writing, video narratives, and bibliotherapy exercises. Several recent studies, covering verbal therapy methods from illness blogging to book interventions, are referenced and discussed. Ultimately, we conclude that expressive writing, video narratives, and bibliotherapy exercises are valuable, feasible, inexpensive, and acceptable tools for patients and survivors of childhood cancer to facilitate self-expression-and to find meaning in the uncertainty and anxiety that cancer inherently fosters. We recommend that future studies investigate this theme so that we may improve quality of life and mental health for pediatric cancer patients and survivors worldwide.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Provision of paediatric palliative care is complex and optimally covers meeting the individual needs of a heterogenous population of children and their parent caregivers throughout a life-limiting illness. It is unclear whether existing approaches comprehensively address parent caregivers' needs. AIM To examine support needs of parents caring for children with life limiting illnesses and identify specific approaches used to identify and address needs. DESIGN A scoping review. DATA SOURCES MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL and ProQuest Central, were searched for peer reviewed English language full text research published from 2008 to 2019. Study quality appraisal was undertaken. Fourteen quantitative, 18 qualitative and 12 mixed methods studies were synthesised and themed using summative content analysis and mapped to the Parent Supportive Care Needs Framework (PSCNF). RESULTS Themes were communication, choice, information, practical, social, psychological, emotional and physical. Communication and choice were central and additional to domains of the PSCNF. Unmet were needs for supporting siblings, for respite care, out of hours, psychological, home and educational support. Six articles reported using instruments to identify parent carer support needs. CONCLUSION Support needs of parent caregivers of children with life limiting illnesses are substantial and heterogenous. While studies report evidence of burden and distress in parent caregivers, this rarely translates into improvements in practice through the development of interventions. A systematic and regular assessment of individual parent caregiver support needs is required by using instruments appropriate to use in clinical practice to move the focus to palliative care interventions and improved services for parents.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Meaning-making may assist individuals in adaptation to stressful life events, particularly bereavement. However, few studies have examined meaning-making among pediatric populations with advanced illness to understand how this process unfolds before the child's death. This study explores meaning-making pre-bereavement among children with advanced cancer and their parents. METHODS As part of a larger study examining shared decision-making near the end of life, 24 children with advanced cancer and/or high-risk cancer, 26 mothers, and 11 fathers participated in individual, semi-structured interviews. Analyses focused on questions regarding meaning-making. Four coders analyzed the data via directed content analysis. RESULTS Three major meaning-making themes emerged: (1) sense-making (i.e., unknown, no sense/meaning, religious/spiritual explanations, scientific explanations), (2) benefit-finding, and (3) purpose/legacy. Some stated they were unable to make sense of the diagnosis, because there was no reason, they were not there yet, or they were dealing with the situation and moving forward. Others reported finding meaning through spiritual and scientific explanations. Many identified benefits related to the child's illness, such as personal growth and stronger relationships. Some parents expressed their purpose in life was to live for their children, while others shared their child's legacy as a way to find meaning. CONCLUSIONS Our findings highlight the struggle children and parents often face when attempting to make sense of the child's advanced or high-risk illness. Clinicians might consider if meaning-centered interventions designed for use in adults at the end of life and bereaved parents may be helpful for children with advanced or high-risk cancer and their parents.

Abstract
Although legacy-building is a priority for quality palliative care, research has rarely examined effects of legacy interventions in children, particularly their impact on parent-child communication.We examined the impact of a web-based legacy intervention on parent-child communication. We hypothesized that compared to usual care, legacy-making would improve quality of parent-child communication.Between 2015 and 2018, Facebook advertisements were used to recruit families of children (ages 7-17) with relapsed/refractory cancer. Parent-child dyads were randomly assigned to the intervention or usual care group. The intervention website guided children to create digital storyboards over 2 weeks by directing them to answer legacy questions about themselves and upload photographs, videos, and music. Families received a copy of the child's final digital story. Children and parents completed the Parent-Adolescent Communication Scale pre- (T1) and post-intervention (T2). Linear regressions tested for differences in change from T1 to T2 between the groups controlling for T1 values using an alpha of p < .05. Intervention effects were measured using Cohen's d. Ninety-seven parent-child dyads were included for analysis. Changes in parent-child communication were not statistically significantly different between the groups, yet meaningful intervention effects were observed. The strongest effects were observed for improving father-child communication (Cohen's d = -0.22-0.33). Legacy-making shows promise to facilitate improved parent-child communication, particularly for fathers. Future studies should include fathers and measure expression of feelings and parent-child interaction. Providers should continue to facilitate family communication for children with advanced disease and realize that legacy interventions may impact mother-child versus father-child communication differently.

Abstract
CONTEXT Approximately 12% of children with cancer will not survive, representing a devastating loss for parents. Strategies to improve parental coping and grief have been understudied. Although legacy-making is frequently offered as standard care to children with terminal illness and their families, these interventions have received little empirical attention. OBJECTIVES This study qualitatively explores the legacy-making and grief experiences of bereaved parents who participated in legacy artwork with their child before his or her death from cancer. METHODS Twelve bereaved parents and 12 healthcare providers participated in individual semistructured interviews guided by the Dual Process Model of Grief and Continuing Bonds theory. Qualitative data were analyzed via conventional content analysis. RESULTS Five themes emerged. Legacy artwork allows for family bonding and opens communication regarding the child's impending death; provides opportunities for parents to engage in life review and meaning-making; is often displayed in the parents' home after the child's death, and parents take comfort in using these projects to continue their bond with their deceased child; can ameliorate parents' grief after their child's death; and may reduce healthcare providers' compassion fatigue and provide them an outlet for coping with their patients' deaths. CONCLUSION Participating in legacy artwork may result in self-reported positive outcomes for bereaved parents before and after their child's death, including family bonding, enhanced communication, meaning-making, and improvements in grief. As a result of these benefits, children's hospitals may consider offering legacy artwork for children with cancer and their families.

Abstract
Background: Life review, a narrative-based intervention, helps individuals organize memories into a meaningful whole, providing a balanced view of the past, present, and future. Examining how the content of memories contributes to life's meaning improves some clinical outcomes for oncology patients. Combining life review with other modalities may enhance therapeutic efficacy. We hypothesized a life review intervention might be enhanced when combined with a kinetic, digital representation (avatar) chosen by the patient. Our goal was to determine the feasibility of an avatar-based intervention for facilitating life review in patients with advanced cancer. Methods: We conducted an observational, feasibility trial in a supportive care clinic. Motion capture technology was used to synchronize voice and movements of the patient onto an avatar in a virtual environment. Semistructured life review questions were adapted to the stages of child, teenager, adult, and elder. Outcome measures included adherence, recruitment, comfort of study procedure, patients' perceived benefits, and ability to complete questionnaires, including the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) and Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being Scale (FACIT-Sp). Results: Seventeen patients were approached, with 11/12 completing the intervention. The total visit time of a single intervention averaged 67 minutes. The post-intervention survey found all patients agreed or strongly agreed (Likert Scale 1-5) they would participate again, would recommend it to others, and found the experience beneficial. After one month, ESAS scores were either unchanged or improved in 80% of patients. Conclusion: An avatar-facilitated life review was feasible with a high rate of adherence, completion, and acceptability by patients. The findings support the need for a clinical trial to test the efficacy of this novel intervention. Clinical Trial Number NCT03996642.

Abstract
Background: Legacy making has been the focus of recent literature; however, few studies examine how legacy making affects bereaved parents. Objective: To better understand legacy making's effect on bereaved parents, this study examined (1) the presentation of legacy making to parents, (2) parent satisfaction, and (3) parent utilization of the project. Design: Eko CORE (Eko Devices, Inc., Berkeley, CA), a digital stethoscope that generates a phonocardiogram, a graphical representation of S1 and S2 heart sounds, was used to record children's heartbeats as they approached end of life. The heartbeat was then overlaid to a song or voice recording or kept as a stand-alone file. An artistic embellishment of the phonocardiogram was also created. Parents were surveyed about their experience with the Music Therapy Heart Sounds (MTHS) program. Twelve parents completed the survey. Setting/subjects: Tertiary care children's hospital. The subjects were bereaved parents. Measurements: Five-question survey. Institutional Review Board review exempt. Results: All respondents would recommend the MTHS program to other families experiencing end-of-life decision making. Forty-two percent (N = 5) heard about the program from pediatric palliative physicians, and 50% (N = 6) heard about it from therapists such as music or child life. The respondents varied in how often they utilized their child's heartbeat recordings: 25% (N = 3) viewed or listened monthly, 33% (N = 4) not at all, 17% (N = 2) almost weekly, 17% less than monthly, and 8% (N = 1) daily. Conclusion: The MTHS program is an easy-to-implement and cost-effective way to perform legacy making that bereaved parents recommend for other families.

Abstract
Background/Aims Physical activity is regarded as an essential component of self-management for people with chronic illness. Storytelling is an approach that successfully uses a group environment to influence change in physical activity intentions and behaviours. The aim of this study was to develop an understanding of what a storytelling intervention entails, its main effects and how this leads to the promotion of physical activity in chronically ill patients. Methods An integrative review was undertaken in three stages: search, appraisal and synthesis. Studies were included if they represented participants with a chronic illness, used a storytelling approach for the intervention and had physical activity as a component of the intervention. Results A total of 14 articles were identified that included a total of 818 participants (191 male, 348 female, 279 unknown). No articles were identified as flawed and all were included in the synthesis. Four themes were identified: ideal processes within interventions; psychosocial factors that influenced storytelling; perceived outcomes relating to storytelling; and perceived benefits of physical activity. Conclusions This review develops a deeper understanding of the required processes, associated factors and outcomes of storytelling interventions for people with chronic illness. It provides evidence of how storytelling can be used to promote physical activity. Further research into storytelling interventions is required.

Advanced care planning (ACP) and end-of-life discussions are especially difficult among persons living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) as a result of patients' lack of trust in family and providers, HIV-related stigma, misunderstood spirituality concerns, social isolation, and other factors. Previous research has demonstrated that relatively few persons living with HIV/AIDS engage in ACP, yet developing culturally sensitive methods of ACP is imperative. One such method is digital storytelling, a video narrative that can be used to share ideas or aspects of a life story.The aim of this study was to examine perspectives from providers and persons living with HIV/AIDS about the acceptability, benefits, and technological challenges of and barriers to using digital storytelling for ACP. A qualitative descriptive design was employed using focus groups of 21 participants in South Central Appalachia. Transcribed data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Findings revealed patient and provider ideas about ACP, factors related to digital story acceptability, stigma against persons living with HIV/AIDS, and concern for the legality of ACPs expressed in digital story format. Future research should focus on the process of creating digital stories as an intervention to improve ACP in this unique aggregate.

Abstract
CONTEXT This scoping review maps the existing literature on narrative interventions within a palliative care and end-of-life context. OBJECTIVES A scoping review was performed to address the following research question: What observational or randomized controlled trials have been performed to evaluate narrative interventions in the palliative care setting? METHODS A search across multiple electronic databases was performed. The search results were screened. Relevant articles were reviewed for the identification of common themes and challenges. RESULTS After reviewing 495 citations from electronic searches, and 44 articles from author archives or from manual review of article reference lists, we identified 34 articles for inclusion. Narrative interventions have focused on reflection or communication, and have been studied among providers, students, patients, and caregivers. Only patient/caregiver studies used randomized controlled design. Most studies were small and at the level of evaluating feasibility. Challenges include a high degree of heterogeneity among interventions and heterogeneity among parameters for evaluating those interventions. CONCLUSION Narrative interventions are actively being evaluated with the intention of improving communication and well-being among all parties within the palliative care and end-of-life experience. The field would benefit from selecting a subset of outcomes that are comparable across studies, and a common framework for describing narrative interventions. Scant literature exists regarding narrative interventions to assist providers in communication.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dignity therapy is becoming established in adult settings, with research supporting its effectiveness. AIMS This article aims to summarise and synthesise the research that has explored dignity therapy and related meaning-making interventions in palliative care with young people. METHODS A rapid structured review was undertaken. Quality appraisal was based on the randomised control trial or cohort study Critical Appraisals Skills Programme (CASP) tool. RESULTS Four studies met the inclusion criteria; one focused on young people (7-17 years), the other three included young people but mean ages were 50-70 years. Dignity therapy was found to improve aspects of wellbeing for the patient and was perceived as helpful for the family. CONCLUSIONS Dignity therapy is well received, with improvements in measures of wellbeing. However, few studies have included young people (24 years and below). This highlights a clear gap in the literature, suggesting the need to develop and evaluate a dignity therapy or related meaning-making intervention to support young people.

Abstract
AbstractObjectiveDignity therapy (DT) is well established in adult populations, and it is likely that it could benefit younger people. This study aimed to adapt the adult Portuguese DT question framework for adolescents (DT-QF-Adol) (ages 10–18).MethodFive stages were followed: (1) the Portuguese DT-QF for adults was adapted for adolescents with the original author's collaboration, (2) an expert committee provided feedback on the adapted version, (3) an initial consensus version of the DT-QF-Adol was created, (4) expert committee consult affirmed final consensus, and (5) validation stage with a sample of 17 adolescents followed in ambulatory psychology clinic.ResultsDT's original author endorsed the final Portuguese DT-QF-Adol, reinforcing that it captures the fundamental dimensions of DT. There was 100% agreement on the final consensus version and defined age group (10–18 years old). Twenty adolescents were invited to participate, and 17 were included after informed consent was obtained; 53% were female. The average age was 12.7 years. The interviewed adolescents reported that the DT-QF-Adol was clear, and they did not identify any ambiguity or difficulty in answering any of the questions. They assumed that this information could positively affect the way parents and friends see and cared for them, permitting others to understand their concerns and preferences. Participants felt that the DT-QF-Adol could be a good starting point for a conversation with their loved ones. Although they did not consider vital for health professionals to access their answers, they strongly felt that the DT-QF-Adol might be essential to sick adolescents and they would recommend it to others.Significance of resultsWe developed a DT-QF of nine questions for Portuguese adolescents (DT-QF-Adol), coined Protocolo de Perguntas da Terapia da Dignidade para Adolescentes — 10–18 anos. This tool can potentially be considered a good addition for pediatric palliative care.

Abstract
Background The last decade has seen an increase in the number of digital health interventions designed to support adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer. Objective The objective of this review was to identify, characterize, and fully assess the quality, feasibility, and efficacy of existing digital health interventions developed specifically for AYAs, aged between 13 and 39 years, living with or beyond a cancer diagnosis. Methods Searches were performed in PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science to identify digital health interventions designed specifically for AYA living with or beyond a cancer diagnosis. Data on the characteristics and outcomes of each intervention were synthesized. Results A total of 4731 intervention studies were identified through the searches; 38 interventions (43 research papers) met the inclusion criteria. Most (20/38, 53%) were website-based interventions. Most studies focused on symptom management and medication adherence (15, 39%), behavior change (15, 39%), self-care (8, 21%), and emotional health (7, 18%). Most digital health interventions included multiple automated and communicative functions such as enriched information environments, automated follow-up messages, and access to peer support. Where reported (20, 53% of studies), AYAs’ subjective experience of using the digital platform was typically positive. The overall quality of the studies was found to be good (mean Quality Assessment Criteria for Evaluating Primary Research Papers from a Variety of Fields scores >68%). Some studies reported feasibility outcomes (uptake, acceptability, and attrition) but were not sufficiently powered to comment on intervention effects. Conclusions Numerous digital interventions have been developed and designed to support young people living with and beyond a diagnosis of cancer. However, many of these interventions have yet to be deployed, implemented, and evaluated at scale.

Abstract
Family caregivers are essential partners for patients undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). The caregiving role is emotionally, physically, and financially demanding. Intervention efforts to provide relief for caregiver stress during HCT are highly warranted. Storytelling interventions are accruing evidence for efficacy in therapeutic contexts. The purpose of this study was to conduct a 3-full consecutive day digital storytelling (DST) workshop to build knowledge on caregivers' lived experiences during HCT, to pilot test DST with a small group of HCT caregivers, and to demonstrate feasibility and acceptability using qualitative and quantitative measures. Six adult caregivers of allogeneic HCT recipients (mean age, 60.2 years) attended a 3-day DST program (66% female, 83% white). All successfully created their personal audiovisual digital story (2 to 3 minutes long) and completed a survey. All participants rated the DST workshop as highly acceptable and therapeutic (mean score 5, on a scale of 1 to 5). Group discussions and interviews with participants further demonstrated high satisfaction and acceptability of the workshop format, setting, process, and structure. The survey results showed decreases in anxiety and depression from before to after the DST workshop with all participants showing change in the expected direction. This study demonstrates the feasibility and acceptability of a 3-day DST workshop as a distress-relieving tool for HCT caregivers. Future research is needed to test the efficacy of DST relative to a control condition.

Abstract
Background: Legacy-making (i.e., a way for patients with terminal illness to create or do something for others as a means of remembrance) is rising in popularity in palliative medicine, although only one study has examined its impact in a pediatric population. Objective: In response to the gaps in literature, this study (1) examines the impact of legacy artwork on bereaved caregivers' psychological functioning and grief and (2) compares caregivers' perceptions of support provided by the hospital throughout their child's cancer journey between the intervention and control groups. Methods: Forty-four caregivers whose children died of cancer completed a demographic questionnaire specifically created for this study, the Brief Symptom Inventory-18, and the Prolonged Grief Disorder-13. They also answered questions regarding supportive services provided to them toward the end of the child's life, at the time of death, and after the child's death. Those caregivers who endorsed participating in legacy artwork were identified as the intervention group, whereas those who did not were classified as the control group. Results: There were no significant differences in psychological functioning among caregivers who participated in legacy artwork versus those who did not participate. However, caregivers who created legacy artwork with their child reported significantly less symptoms of prolonged grief and a greater perception of support from health care providers compared with caregivers who did not engage in this activity. Conclusion: Although preliminary, these findings suggest that legacy artwork may have the potential to improve grief and overall satisfaction of support from the hospital in bereaved caregivers.

Abstract
Fourteen (N = 14) bereaved family members participated in an exploratory study of Digital Storytelling as a bereavement intervention. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the feasibility of this approach and to qualitatively assess potential impacts. Qualitative data revealed that for some, participation in Digital Storytelling facilitated growth and meaning-making. Themes from the data also revealed that participation in Digital Storytelling affected participants in these ways: (a) the writing and verbalization of the script helped participants organize their thoughts and emotions about the loss, (b) having the space to share with a collective group encouraged confidence in their ability to discuss their feelings with others, and (c) the final product served as a source of closure for participants. Although this was a small exploratory study, results were promising and suggest the clinical applicability of Digital Storytelling as a tool for facilitating meaning-making among bereaved family members.

Abstract
Resumo O presente estudo consiste em uma revisão integrativa de pesquisas que investigaram o enfrentamento ao câncer infantil, com destaque para propostas de intervenção visando o seu favorecimento. Realizou-se uma busca bibliográfica nas bases de dados Web of Science, PubMed e PsychNet. Foram selecionados 80 artigos que atenderam aos critérios gerais de inclusão e 22 estudos tendo como foco específico propostas de intervenção. Os estudos selecionados avaliaram os resultados das intervenções realizadas ou a intervenção em si, discutindo aspectos particulares das mesmas e avaliando sua viabilidade. Todos os estudos qualificaram a intervenção proposta como viável, sendo que em sua maioria relataram benefícios aos participantes, o que destaca a relevância das iniciativas.
