Abstract
BACKGROUND Engaging in physical activity (PA) throughout cancer treatment offers many benefits, but may be challenging due to cancer-related pain. Pain research in pediatric cancer has primarily focused on procedural pain, with fewer studies exploring how pain affects PA. The current study qualitatively investigated the impact of pain on PA in youth with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) using a biopsychosocial framework. PROCEDURE As part of a larger study, caregivers (N = 17) of a child diagnosed with ALL and on treatment for less than 1 year completed a semi-structured interview about perceptions of their child's health behaviors during ALL treatment. This secondary analysis focused specifically on discussions about pain and its impact on PA. We followed Braun and Clarke's (2006) six-step thematic analysis framework to identify themes of pain-related barriers to PA. RESULTS Key pain-related barriers endorsed by caregivers included: interactions among pain and treatment effects, caregiver distress around seeing their child in pain, and fear of interfering with medical equipment. Despite these barriers, caregivers found creative solutions to adapt activities for their child. Caregivers were reassured by PA advice from their medical team; however, advice varied between teams. CONCLUSION The relationship between pain and PA during ALL treatment is influenced by an intricate system of biological (e.g., treatment effects), psychological (e.g., parental distress), and social (e.g., communication among families and medical teams) factors. Future directions include identifying evidence-based PA recommendations and exploring family-team communication dynamics. This study also highlights a need to prioritize ALL pain management and involve caregivers in behavioral treatment protocols to improve PA.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDS Physical activity is associated with many benefits in reducing cancer symptoms and treatments side effects. Yet, studies consistently show that knowledge about physical activity is under-promoted among people diagnosed with cancer. Therefore, we aimed to contribute to filling this gap by ascertaining patient and professional perspectives regarding physical activity promotion. METHODS This study took place in Montreal, Canada. We conducted individual, semi-structured interviews with cancer patients who participated in a physical activity program and professionals working in the healthcare system. Participants had to be aged over 18 years, be able to communicate verbally in either English or French, and consent to an audio-recorded interview. A hybrid deductive-inductive approach to content analysis was applied to analyze interview transcripts using Dedoose and Microsoft Excel software. RESULTS Our sample comprised 21 patients (76.2% women) and 20 professionals (80% women). We identified 24 factors (barriers, facilitators, and improvement suggestions) influencing physical activity promotion across organizational, community, and social levels. Results suggest that to improve physical activity promotion in cancer care, it is necessary to showcase exercise specialists as a healthcare resource, to champion for this change within health organizations, to develop partnerships between public and private sectors of the health and fitness industries, and to reassess social norms concerning cancer survivorship and treatment. CONCLUSION These findings shed light on the gaps and the bright lights in physical activity promotion for people diagnosed with cancer across numerous levels.

Abstract
Physical activity (PA) may minimize long-term and late effects experienced by cancer survivors. However, the efficacy of PA interventions in increasing PA engagement among adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors diagnosed between 15 and 39 is not well understood. This systematic review aimed to examine the effects of moderate- to high-intensity or strength training PA interventions on PA engagement in AYA cancer survivors. Secondary aims included describing intervention components unique to efficacious interventions, identifying symptom management in PA interventions, and evaluating intervention effects on quality of life (QoL), and long-term or late effects of cancer. We searched PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, SportDiscus, Cochrane Library, and Scopus databases from inception to August 2022 and identified 12 articles, including 8 randomized controlled trials and 4 quasi-experimental studies. The effect of PA interventions on PA engagement was mixed, with four studies reporting increases in PA engagement ranging from 18.4 to 113.8 min/week postintervention. There was great diversity in PA intervention components. Motivational interviewing, supervised and unsupervised PA sessions together, moderate-intensity PA only, and mindful meditation were components unique to efficacious interventions. No intervention incorporated symptom management components. Studies provided some evidence of PA interventions on potential long-term effects of cancer, with positive impact on fatigue, and some evidence of improved anxiety, sleep, and QoL. Given limited research with AYA cancer survivors, additional research is needed to identify effective intervention components, integrate symptom management strategies into PA interventions, and track effects of PA interventions on late and long-term effects of cancer in this population.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study explored whether sociodemographic and health-related characteristics moderated mHealth PA intervention effects on total and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) at 6 months, relative to a self-help condition among young adult cancer survivors (YACS). METHODS We conducted exploratory secondary analyses of data from a randomized controlled trial among 280 YACS. All participants received digital tools; intervention participants also received lessons, adaptive goals, tailored feedback, text messages, and Facebook prompts. Potential moderators were assessed in baseline questionnaires. PA was measured at baseline and 6 months with accelerometers. Linear model repeated measures analyses examined within- and between-group PA changes stratified by levels of potential moderator variables. RESULTS Over 6 months, the intervention produced MVPA increases that were ≥ 30 min/week compared with the self-help among participants who were males (28.1 vs. -7.7, p = .0243), identified with racial/ethnic minority groups (35.2 vs. -8.0, p = .0006), had baseline BMI of 25-30 (25.4 vs. -7.2, p = .0034), or stage III/IV cancer diagnosis (26.0 vs. -6.8, p = .0041). Intervention participants who were ages 26-35, college graduates, married/living with a partner, had a solid tumor, or no baseline comorbidities had modest MVPA increases over 6 months compared to the self-help (ps = .0163-.0492). Baseline characteristics did not moderate intervention effects on total PA. CONCLUSIONS The mHealth intervention was more effective than a self-help group at improving MVPA among subgroups of YACS defined by characteristics (sex, race, BMI, cancer stage) that may be useful for tailoring PA interventions. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS These potential moderators can guide future optimization of PA interventions for YACS. CLINICALTRIALS GOV IDENTIFIER NCT03569605.

Abstract
The diagnosis of cancer during adolescent and young adulthood (AYA) may alter the development and psychological trajectory of survivors across their lifespan. The current review focuses broadly on emotional health, social functioning, health behaviors, and cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) among AYA survivors. Overall, AYA survivors appear to be at elevated risk of emotional distress symptoms, mood and anxiety disorders, suicide, and mental health care service utilization compared with individuals without a cancer history. Difficulties with social relationships and reduced achievement of expected social outcomes including educational attainment and employment have been reported. Despite risk for health-related morbidities, including subsequent neoplasms, many AYA survivors do not engage in health behaviors at the recommended levels for physical activity, diet, or tobacco and alcohol use. Although CRCI has not been comprehensively characterized in this population, subgroups of AYA survivors appear to be at risk for experiencing CRCI, including survivors of central nervous system tumors, Hodgkin lymphoma, testicular, and breast cancer. Across each considered domain of psychological functioning, intervention efforts have largely focused on acceptability and feasibility with an increasing focus on e/mHealth approaches. Future research should include multiphase studies, including randomized controlled trials designed to evaluate intervention efficacy and effectiveness. It is imperative that psychological interventions consider the unique needs of AYA survivors by developmental stage and across multiple levels of influence (patient, support system, institution, and health care system).

Abstract
Participation in physical activity (PA) during and after cancer treatment is safe and beneficial in the adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer population. PA can positively impact health-related outcomes; however, participation remains low. This systematic review aims to describe PA intervention characteristics and outcomes in AYA survivors of cancer (AYASCa). This review followed Preferred Reporting Index for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and was registered with Prospero (CRD42022365661). PubMed, CINAHL, and Scopus databases were searched for randomized control trials (RCTs) and pre/post-test studies without a control group through December 31, 2022. Data included: participant demographics, PA intervention characteristics, and health-related outcomes. Studies were assessed using the National Institute of Health Critical Appraisal Tools, and findings were synthesized to identify common characteristics of PA interventions and outcomes. Twenty-three studies were included: 15 RCTs and 8 pre/post-test studies. Heterogeneity existed across design, sample demographics, intervention timing, and observed outcomes. The most common characteristics of PA interventions were supervision of PA, wearable device use, tailored/individualized PA prescriptions, and goal setting. PA interventions positively affected health-related outcomes, with 21 studies reporting statistically significant findings. Implementing personalized PA prescriptions, utilizing wearable devices, and incorporating goal setting as characteristics in PA interventions hold potential benefits for AYASCa, leading to improved outcomes. Still, additional research is needed to explore interventions that utilize these PA characteristics and determine which ones are most effective for AYASCa. By further investigating and identifying optimal PA characteristics, interventions can be better tailored to meet this population's specific needs and preferences, ultimately enhancing their overall well-being and recovery.

Abstract
Background Opt2Move is a theory-guided moderate and vigorous physical activity (MVPA) promotion trial that uses multiphase optimization strategy (MOST) methodology to evaluate the individual and combined effects of four intervention components in a full factorial experiment among young adult cancer survivors (YACS; N = 304). All participants will receive the core mHealth MVPA intervention, which includes a Fitbit and standard self-monitoring Opt2Move smartphone application. YACS will be randomized to one of 16 conditions to receive between zero and four additional components each with two levels (yes v. no): E-Coach, buddy, general mindfulness, and MVPA-specific mindfulness. Objective The primary aim is to determine the individual and combined effects of the components on MVPA post-intervention (12-weeks) and at 24-week follow-up. The secondary aim is to examine how changes in MVPA are associated with patient-reported outcomes, light-intensity activity, sedentary time, and sleep duration and quality. Potential mediators and moderators of component effects will also be examined. Results Results will support the selection of a package of intervention components optimized to maximize MVPA to be tested in a randomized controlled trial. Conclusion Opt2Move represents the first systematic effort to use MOST to design an optimized, scalable mHealth MVPA intervention for YACS and will lead to an improved understanding of how to effectively change YACS' MVPA and ultimately, improve health and disease outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Disease-specific interventions for management and health behavior implementation are needed to improve the health and quality of life of adolescents with moyamoya disease. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to develop a program for adolescents with moyamoya disease based on the salutogenesis theory, which focuses on the process of enhancing health through successful adaptation to external stressors, and to evaluate its effectiveness. METHODS A randomized controlled trial was performed according to the CONSORT guidelines. This preliminary research and experimental treatment were conducted at a Severance Hospital ward and outpatient clinic among 48 participants randomized into the intervention (seven sessions of salutogenesis program, n = 24) or the control group (one session of one-to-one moyamoya disease education program, n = 24) from September 6, 2018 to January 4, 2019. Changes in the following study outcomes were reported: "knowledge of moyamoya disease," "social support," "sense of coherence," "moyamoya disease health behavior," "stress," "depression," "subjective health status," "frequency of ischemic symptoms," and "quality of life". RESULTS The salutogenesis program improved the knowledge and social support of adolescents with illness-related problems and helped them attain healthy behaviors and stress reduction. It was confirmed to be effective in improving their quality of life. CONCLUSIONS The salutogenesis program for adolescents with moyamoya disease effectively improved the generalized resistance resources and sense of coherence in adolescents with moyamoya disease. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To map existing research concerning rehabilitation interventions for young adult cancer survivors (YACS) that address at least one factor from the biopsychosocial health model. DESIGN Scoping review. DATA SOURCES Searches were performed in EMBASE, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL and Cochrane in January 2022 and updated in March 2023, and grey literature between February and April 2022. METHODS The review followed Joanna Briggs Institute's methodology for scoping reviews. Quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods studies evaluating interventions for YACS of any cancer who had completed primary treatment and were between 18 and 39 years old at diagnosis were included. Two authors independently screened studies for eligibility, and standardised forms were used for data extraction. Descriptive statistics, narrative summaries and thematic analysis were used to analyse the data. RESULTS The search revealed 5706 records, of which 70 were full-text screened. The 20 included studies represented a heterogeneous group of 444 young adults with different cancer types, mean age above 25, and an overrepresentation of females. Most studies were feasibility and pilot studies. The 20 studies consisted of 14 unique interventions focusing primarily on one dimension of the biopsychosocial health model like biological or psychological factors. In the 14 interventions, the most frequent intervention element was peer-to-peer support (n = 12). The interventions were often delivered online (n = 9), lasting 3-12 months (n = 8). A wide variety of theories, providers and outcome measures were used. CONCLUSION The results show that current research on multicomponent, biopsychosocial and age-specific rehabilitation for YACS remains at an early stage.

Abstract
PURPOSE This scoping review describes the assessment methodologies for physical activity (PA) and physical fitness assessments used in studies focusing on adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer. METHODS A search of the literature was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library following the PRISMA-ScR statement. A total of 34 studies were included in this review. RESULTS PA was primarily assessed via self-reported questionnaires (30/34) either completed in-person (n = 17) or online (n = 13) at different time points and different stages along the cancer trajectory (i.e., from diagnosis onward). A total of 9 studies conducted a physical fitness assessment. CONCLUSIONS PA and physical fitness measurements are key when trying to describe outcomes, assess for associations, track changes, measure intervention adherence, and test intervention efficacy and effectiveness. Considerable heterogeneity across studies was reported limiting the generation of formal recommendations or guidance for researchers, healthcare providers, and policy makers.

Abstract
PURPOSE Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare disease which has a high incidence of onset in adolescence. Disease self-management skills are imperative for adolescents with MMD. This study aimed to describe the systematic development, content, and usability of the Moyamoya Healthy Youth application (app), which was developed to enhance self-management skills for adolescents with MMD. DESIGN AND METHODS The theoretical grounding for the app was salutogenic model and the development process of the app was guided by the intervention mapping (IM) protocol. Results of each IM step were applied to the next step leading to the design of the app. Additionally, a pilot test was conducted to determine the usability of the app. RESULTS Following the salutogenic model, we identified the stressors, behaviors, and resources regarding managing symptoms of MMD by interviewing adolescents with MMD, their parents, and healthcare providers. Based on the findings of the interviews, we determined the program outcomes and performance objectives to improve the self-management of MMD in adolescents. The app was developed by translating the theoretical methods to achieve the performance objectives into practical strategies for delivering the program. A pilot test with eight participants showed satisfaction with the app in terms of its usefulness and ease of use. CONCLUSION We delineated the development process of the Moyamoya Healthy Youth. Additionally, we presented the positive outcomes regarding the usability of the app. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS The Moyamoya Healthy Youth app could benefit adolescents with MMD, by improving their self-management skills which are crucial for their health.

Abstract
Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI; e.g., disrupted memory, executive functioning, and information processing) affects many young adults, causing significant distress, reducing quality of life (QoL), and thwarting their ability to engage in professional, recreational, and social experiences. The purpose of this exploratory qualitative study was to investigate young adults' lived experiences with CRCI, and any strategies (including physical activity) they use to self-manage this burdensome side effect. Sixteen young adults (Mage = 30.8 ± 6.0 years; 87.5% female; Myears since diagnosis = 3.2 ± 3) who reported clinically meaningful CRCI whilst completing an online survey were interviewed virtually. Four themes comprising 13 sub-themes were identified through an inductive thematic analysis: (1) descriptions and interpretations of the CRCI phenomenon, (2) effects of CRCI on day-to-day and QoL, (3) cognitive-behavioural self-management strategies, and (4) recommendations for improving care. Findings suggest CRCI is detrimental to young adults' QoL and must be addressed more systematically in practice. Results also illuminate the promise of PA in coping with CRCI, but research is needed to confirm this association, test how and why this may occur, and determine optimal PA prescriptions for young adults to self-manage their CRCI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Young adults aged 18-39 years commonly experience persistent side effects following cancer treatment that can impair their quality of life. Physical activity (PA) holds promise as a behavioral intervention to mitigate persistent side effects and improve quality of life. Yet, few young adults are active enough to incur these benefits and efforts to promote PA after cancer treatment ends are lacking. Therefore, we developed a novel theory-driven behavior change intervention to promote PA via videoconferencing technology in young adults who have completed cancer treatment, and are undertaking a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) to gather evidence to inform the design of a large, full-scale RCT. The specific aims of this parallel, two-arm pilot RCT are to: (1) assess intervention and trial protocol feasibility and acceptability; and (2) generate data on PA behavior. To promote transparency, improve reproducibility, and serve as a reference for forthcoming publication of results, we present the study protocol for this pilot RCT (version 7) within this paper. METHODS Young adults who have completed cancer treatment are being recruited from across Canada. After informed consent is obtained and baseline assessments are completed, participants are randomized to the intervention group (i.e., a 12-week behavior change intervention delivered via videoconferencing technology by trained PA counsellors) or usual care group (i.e., no intervention). Several feasibility outcomes covering enrollment, allocation, follow-up, and analysis are tracked by study staff. Acceptability is assessed through interviews exploring participants' experiences, thoughts, and perspectives of the trial protocol (i.e., intervention and usual care groups), as well as participants' views of the intervention and its mode of delivery (i.e., intervention group only) and PA counsellors' experiences delivering the intervention. PA behavior is measured using accelerometers at baseline (pre-randomization), post-intervention, and at follow-up (24 weeks post-baseline). DISCUSSION There are growing calls to develop interventions to support young adults' motivation to engage in PA and adopt an active lifestyle to improve their quality of life after cancer treatment ends. Real-time videoconferencing shows promise for disseminating behavior change interventions to young adults and addressing participation barriers. Considering the importance of establishing intervention and trial protocol feasibility and acceptability prior to evaluating intervention efficacy (or effectiveness), this pilot RCT is critical to understand how participants embrace, engage with, and complete the intervention and trial protocol. Indeed, these data will help to determine which refinements, if any, are required to the intervention and trial protocol (e.g., implementation approach, evaluation methods) prior to a large, full-scale RCT aiming to test the effects of the intervention on PA behavior. Additionally, the PA behavior data collected will be useful to inform the sample size calculation for a large, full-scale RCT. TRIAL REGISTRATION The trial was registered with the ClinicalTrials.gov database (ID: NCT04163042) on November 14, 2019, prior to the start of the trial in February, 2021.

Abstract
Objective COVID-19 has exacerbated pre-existing rates of overweight and obesity in the United States. mHealth technologies are gaining in popularity for its potential to reduce obesity, if facilitated by patient-centered communication. This study explores predictors of overweight and obese individuals' exercise levels during COVID-19. Methods 2191 respondents who visited a doctor in the past year and self-reported being overweight were selected from the 2020 Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS). Respondents reported their physical activity, beliefs about obesity, health tracking behaviors, and communication with providers during the pandemic. Structural equation modeling was used to explore connections among the variables. Results Patient-provider (e-)communication was significantly associated with changes in people's obesity-related beliefs and mHealth tracking usage, predicting moderate exercise during the pandemic. Conclusion The findings illustrate the need for patient-centered communication encounters to include discussions on mHealth technologies and accessible methods of engaging in physical activity.Innovation: This study examined secondary data provided by overweight and obese individuals from the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic; this population may benefit from targeted health interventions using mHealth technologies. Our findings suggest that healthcare providers should engage patients through mHealth technology and seek to improve digital health literacy to progress physical activity nationwide.

Abstract
Background Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Exercise is crucial for ameliorating the burden associated with cancer and its management. A broad review of exercise interventions for cancer patients is not available. Objective Our study aims to review the documented exercise interventions prescribed for adult cancer patients aimed at ameliorating cancer-related and cancer treatment-induced symptoms in patients along the continuum of care. Methods A three-step search strategy will be used, the research question was developed; the first step in the research process was identified and the search strategy was developed using the Participants-Concept-Context framework. English language publications from 15 electronic databases from 2011 to 2021 will be searched. The Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for scoping reviews will be to guide the review and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews will be used for the report. The search strategy incorporated terms relevant to the research question. The reference lists of articles included in the review will be screened for additional papers. Searched articles will be screened to determine their eligibility for inclusion and a pretested data extraction form will be used to chart the extracted evidence. Results This article presents a protocol for a scoping review on exercise interventions to affect symptoms in cancer patients from diagnosis to end-of-life care. Conclusion A broad review of exercise interventions for cancer management in adult patients will elucidate the characteristics and context of exercises used along the cancer care continuum. Clinical implications Exercise interventions used as part of cancer management will be mapped out to provide an overview of such exercise interventions. This could enhance knowledge among exercise oncology experts regarding exercise interventions for different cancer patient populations.

Abstract
Significance: Elevated survival rates in young adult cancer survivors (YACS) are accompanied by high morbidity levels resulting in an array of unmet needs limiting full life potential. Physical activity (PA) improves physical, psychological, and social aspects of health after a cancer diagnosis. There are no standardized PA guidelines tailored to YACS. Therefore, there is a critical need to understand areas of clinical relevance/agreement on PA use and implementation in young adult (YA) survivorship care. Aim: To identify expert consensus areas on the assessment, prescription, and implementation of PA in YA survivorship care; identify areas of clinical relevance and endorsement of PA as a health optimization strategy in YA survivorship care. Methods: A four-round modified Delphi study of international multidisciplinary experts (Round I/II n = 18; Round III n = 57, Round IV n = 45) in exercise oncology, symptom management, survivorship care, youth cancer care was conducted. Qualitative content analysis, descriptive statistics (% agreement, standard deviation, mean), and inter-rater reliability (Kappa) were calculated. Results: Experts reached a consensus on clinical providers needed to assess, refer, and provide PA interventions, the need for guidelines, and essential care delivery system components to foster the integration of PA integration in YA survivorship care as a health optimization activity. Conclusions/Implications: Cancer care integration models should optimize the unique preferences, strengths, and developmental stage of YA affected by cancer. The study adds to the existing literature on multidisciplinary teams needed to provide clinical expertise and organizational support to foster PA integration into YA survivorship care.

Abstract
Background Improved survival rates for children with solid tumors presents an ongoing challenge of how to maximize quality of survivorship and effectively manage the short- and long-term complications of disease and treatment. To gain an understanding of the extent and nature of research pertaining to therapeutic exercise interventions and identify knowledge gaps, we conducted a scoping review of exercise training studies conducted in pediatric survivors of brain cancer and other solid tumors. Method A systematic literature search was performed across four electronic databases. Papers were selected for full-text review if they included participants treated for brain cancer or other solid tumors, with at least 50% of participants aged ≤ 21 years, evaluated an exercise intervention ≥2-weeks in duration, and were published in an English, peer-reviewed journal. We included the following quantitative study designs; randomized controlled trials, non-randomized trials, and single-arm pre-test-post-test. Results Of the 7,482 citations identified, 17 papers met the inclusion criteria (presenting findings from eleven studies). Two studies were randomized controlled trials, five studies were non-randomized controlled trials, and four studies were a single-arm pre-test post-test design. Average age of participants ranged from 7.3-15.5 years, and time since diagnosis ranged from 3 to 70 months. Five studies included participants with brain tumors exclusively, three studies included other solid tumors, and three studies included a mixed sample (brain and other solid tumors). A wide range of exercise modalities were employed, including cycle ergometry, resistance training, sport, yoga, and active gaming. The length of the exercise program ranged from 3-40 weeks and frequency from 3-11 sessions per week. Exercise session duration ranged from 15-180 min, with most studies reporting 30-90-min sessions. Adherence ranged from 77 to 100%, with none of the studies reporting adverse events. Studies reported improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness, functional strength, physical activity, and quality of life. Conclusions A small number of mostly low methodological quality studies have examined the effects of therapeutic exercise in pediatric survivors of solid tumors. Although limited, the extant literature supports the feasibility and safety of therapeutic exercise interventions for pediatric survivors of brain cancer and other solid tumors.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim was to summarize the current literature for the effectiveness of physical activity interventions on physical functioning, body composition, and quality of life (QOL) in pediatric, adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. METHODS We conducted systematic structured searches of PubMed and Web of Science databases. Two independent researchers selected against inclusion criteria: (1) lifestyle intervention including physical activity and/or physical activity interventions for pediatric, adolescent, and young adults with any cancer diagnosis; (2) measured QOL, physical functioning (e.g., strength, activities of daily living), or body composition (e.g., changes in weight, percent body fat); and (3) randomized controlled trials. RESULTS Searches identified 4770 studies. Following the removal of duplicates and title and abstract screening, 83 full-text articles were assessed, and 9 studies met the inclusion criteria. Childhood and adolescent cancer survivors encompassed n = 7 studies while young adult cancer survivors were included in n = 2 studies. Three studies reported using a theoretical framework and six did not. Interventions ranged from 1 week to 6 months. Across all studies reviewed, n = 2 reported improvements in physical activity, n = 5 studies reported partial improvements, and n = 2 reported no improvements. CONCLUSIONS Interventions to improve physical activity behaviors reported mixed results. Only two physical activity interventions incorporated young adults with cancer; thus, physical activity interventions for young adult cancer survivors should be further explored. Future research should focus on personalized physical activity components encouraging behavior change techniques to maximize physical health and QOL improvements.

Abstract
Physical activity (PA) can help manage cancer treatment-related side effects and improve well-being following treatment; however, resuming PA after a period of inactivity due to cancer can be challenging. The purpose of this study was to explore adolescents and young adults (AYAs) experiences transitioning back into PA after a period of inactivity due to cancer treatment. Twelve previously active AYAs (Mage = 30 ± 5.8 years) were purposefully sampled and engaged in a semi-structured interview. The following four themes were generated through a reflexive thematic analysis: PA is described as important and valuable; navigating one's appearance and fitness changes after cancer treatment within the PA context; supportive care is essential to successful PA transitions; and juxtaposed environments: fitness facilities, cities, and green spaces. Developing strategies aimed at gradually transitioning into PA should be a priority to improve AYAs' well-being through survivorship.

Abstract
Physical activity (PA) is important for managing the side effects and long-term outcomes of cancer treatment, yet many adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer (AYAs) are not meeting PA guidelines. Body image and social support are two factors that can influence PA behavior and require further attention in this population. The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between body image, social support, and PA among AYAs. An online cross-sectional survey administered through the Research Electronic Data Capture platform was used to assess self-reported body image (body-related self-conscious emotions of appearance and fitness shame, guilt, authentic pride, and hubristic pride), social support (general and cancer-specific), and PA (mild, moderate-to-vigorous, and resistance exercise) in AYAs (N = 119; M age = 34.5 ± 5.5 years). Based on findings from path analyses, body image and social support were directly associated with PA (R 2 = 0.09-0.33). Social support was also directly associated with body image. However, there were no indirect effects. These findings provide preliminary support for the influential role of appearance and fitness body-related emotions and cancer-specific social support on PA. The results have important implications for the development of targeted strategies aimed at improving body image (e.g., cognitive dissonance and compassion-focused interventions) and social support (e.g., facilitating the provision of cancer-specific support), with the overall goal of increasing AYAs' PA.

Abstract
Background Executive functioning (EF) deficits are troubling for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) after cancer treatment. Physical activity (PA) may enhance neural activity underlying EF among older adults affected by cancer. Establishing whether PA enhances neural activity among AYAs is warranted. As part of a two-arm, mixed-methods pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT), this proof-of-concept sub-study sought to answer the following questions: (1) is it feasible to use neuroimaging with EF tasks to assess neural activity changes following a 12-week PA intervention? And (2) is there preliminary evidence that a 12-week PA intervention enhances neural activity among AYAs after cancer treatment? Methods AYAs in the pilot RCT were approached for enrollment into this sub-study. Those who were eligible and enrolled, completed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with EF tasks (letter n-back, Go/No Go) pre- and post-PA intervention. Sub-study enrollment, adherence to scheduled fMRI scans, outliers, missing data, and EF task performance data were collected. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) analyses, and paired sample t-tests. Results Nine eligible participants enrolled into this sub-study; six attended scheduled fMRI scans. One outlier was identified and was subsequently removed from the analytical sample. Participants showed no differences in EF task performance from pre- to post-PA intervention. Increases in neural activity in brain regions responsible for motor control, information encoding and processing, and decision-making were observed post-PA intervention (p < 0.05; n = 5). Conclusions Findings show that fMRI scans during EF tasks detected neural activity changes (as assessed by the BOLD signal) from pre- to post-PA intervention. Results thus suggest future trials confirming that PA enhances neural activity underlying EF are needed, though feasibility issues require careful consideration to ensure trial success. Abstract
BACKGROUND Fatigue remains a persistent and troubling symptom for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer. Physical activity (PA) is recommended as a strategy for self-management of fatigue. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to examine a PA intervention to improve the self-management of fatigue in AYAs during chemotherapy. METHODS This randomized controlled trial enrolled AYAs (18-39 years) receiving chemotherapy. Adolescents and young adults in the intervention group received a 12-week PA intervention integrated into 5 clinic visits that included education, PA tracking, and collaboration. Physical activity was measured with an accelerometer, and participants completed measures of fatigue severity, self-efficacy for PA, and self-regulation at baseline and end of study. RESULTS Forty-four AYAs completed the study. At baseline, AYAs averaged 4290 (SD, 2423) steps/day and 14.4 (SD, 20.6) minutes/day of moderate- to vigorous-intensity PA; their average Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System fatigue score was 55.0 (SD, 9.2). At end of study, there were no significant differences between groups in fatigue, self-efficacy, self-regulation, or PA, but trends in the desired direction were observed for each of the variables in the intervention group. CONCLUSION During chemotherapy, AYAs had variable levels of PA and engaged in mostly light-intensity PA. Their average fatigue level was slightly worse than a national comparison group. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Tailored interventions are needed to promote PA in AYAs as a self-management strategy for fatigue. Enhancing self-efficacy and self-regulation may be important approaches to promote PA.

Abstract
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION Physical activity, a precision health strategy, positively affects biopsychosocial health in adult cancer survivors. However, understanding its effects among young adult (YA) cancer survivors is limited. The purpose of this scoping review was to explore existing research on physical activity in YA cancer survivors. LITERATURE SEARCH CINAHL®, PubMed®, PsycINFO®, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched, producing 63 articles and 28 grey materials. DATA EVALUATION Data extraction, guided by the revised symptom management model, included research aims, sample, design, primary outcome measures, and effects of physical activity. SYNTHESIS Findings of 35 review articles were reported under three main categories. IMPLICATIONS FOR RESEARCH Lack of clinical guidelines and limited research specific to YA cancer survivors hinders physical activity's use as a symptom management strategy. Research is needed that addresses the development and clinical implementation of physical activity guidelines.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Despite improving survival rates, people with advanced cancer face several physical and psychosocial concerns. Leisure-time physical activity (LPA) has been found to be beneficial after cancer diagnosis, but little is known about the current state of research exploring LPA in advanced cancer. Our objectives were to (a) map the literature examining LPA in people with advanced cancer, (b) report on the terms used to describe the advanced cancer population within the literature, and (c) examine how the concept of LPA is operationalized within the literature. METHOD Our scoping review followed Arksey and O'Malley's methodological framework. We performed a search of 11 electronic databases and supplementary sources (February 2018; database search updated January 2020). Two reviewers independently reviewed and selected articles according to the inclusion criteria: English-language journal articles on original primary research studies exploring LPA in adults diagnosed with advanced cancer. Descriptive and thematic analyses were performed. RESULTS Ninety-two articles met our criteria. Most included studies were published in the last decade (80%) and used quantitative methods (77%). Many study populations included mixed (40%), breast (21%), or lung (17%) cancers. Stages 3-4 or metastatic disease were frequently indicated to describe study populations (77%). Several studies (68%) described LPA programs or interventions. Of these, 78% involved structured aerobic/resistance exercise, while 16% explored other LPA types. SIGNIFICANCE OF RESULTS This review demonstrates a recent surge in research exploring LPA in advanced cancer, particularly studies examining exercise interventions with traditional quantitative methods. There remains insufficient knowledge about patient experiences and perceptions toward LPA. Moreover, little is known about other leisure activities (e.g., Tai Chi, dance, and sports) for this population. To optimize the benefits of LPA in people with advanced cancer, research is needed to address the gaps in the current literature and to develop personalized, evidence-based supportive care strategies in cancer care.

Abstract
Purpose There is emerging evidence that physical activity interventions have the potential to improve the physical function and psychosocial well-being of young adult cancer survivors. However, most existing interventions for young adult cancer survivors have been delivered in an in-patient hospital setting. The purpose of this study is to explore young adult cancer survivors’ (YACS) experiences of the RENEW programme, a 12-week community-based exercise referral scheme delivered by Trekstock, a UK-based cancer charity. Methods Sixteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with YACS (mean age, 33 years; 87.5% female) who participated in the RENEW exercise referral programme. Each interview followed the same semi-structured interview guide which asked participants about their experiences of the RENEW programme and their ideas for the future development of the scheme. Data was audio-recorded, transcribed full verbatim and analysed using framework analysis. Results YACs predominantly chose to take part in the RENEW programme as a means to improve their health and overcome cancer related impairments (e.g. fatigue, loss of strength, low body confidence). The offer of one-to-one tailored support and unlimited gym access was often cited as a factor which motivated enrolment. Overall, YACS experience of the programme was positive with many describing improvements in physical function and general well-being. Barriers to participating in the programme included sign-off from clinicians prior to enrolment, travelling to the gym and fear of exercising alone. Conclusions Exercise referral schemes are acceptable to YACS and provide a promising opportunity for young people with cancer to improve their physical and psychosocial health through physical activity. Abstract
Purpose To evaluate the uptake and effect of RENEW, a 12-week exercise referral programme for young adult cancer survivors delivered by Trekstock, a UK-based cancer charity. Methods The RENEW programme provides one-to-one individually tailored support from a level-4 cancer-rehabilitation-qualified gym instructor, free gym membership and access to information resources online. Objective and self-report data on cardiorespiratory function, strength, body composition, fatigue, sleep quality and general health-related quality of life (HRQoL) was collected from participants before the programme (week 0), immediately after (week 12) and 1 month later (week 16). Results Forty-eight young adults (83% female; mean age, 29 years) with a history of cancer took part within the 12-week programme and completed the evaluation measures. Physical activity (PA) levels significantly increased following the programme and remained raised at follow-up. Improvements in physical function were significant: peak expiratory flow (mean change, 30.96, p = 0.003), sit-and-reach test (mean change, 6.55 ± 4.54, p < 0.0001), and 6-mine-walk test (mean change, 0.12 ± 0.04, p < 0.0001). No significant changes in BMI, weight or muscle mass were observed. Improvements in fatigue, sleep and HRQoL were observed across the programme and at follow-up (mean change, weeks 0–16; 8.04 ± 1.49 p < 0.01; 1.05 ± 0.49 p < 0.05; and − 0.9 ± 0.46 p = 0.051, respectively). Changes in self-efficacy to exercise and motivations to exercise were not observed at 12 weeks or at follow-up. Conclusions Results suggest that the RENEW exercise referral programme has a positive impact upon some domains of physical function and well-being among young adult cancer survivors. Implication for cancer survivors Exercise referral programmes delivered by charity organisations are one means by which PA behaviour change support may be widely disseminated to young adult cancer survivors. Health professionals and charitable bodies specialising in the care of young adults with cancer should look to address factors which prevent engagement and uptake of ‘real-world’ PA interventions such as the RENEW programme.

Abstract
PURPOSE The primary aim of this study was to investigate the health behaviour status of teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer patients and survivors; the secondary aim was to determine if TYA cancer patients and survivors health behaviour differs to general population controls. METHODS Two hundred sixty-seven young people with cancer (n =83 cancer patients receiving active treatment: n =174 cancer survivors, 57.1% >1 year since treatment completion) and 321 controls completed a health and lifestyle questionnaire which included validated measures of physical activity (PA) (Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire), diet (Dietary Instrument for Nutrition Education, DINE), smoking status, and alcohol consumption (AUDIT-C). RESULTS General population controls and cancer survivors were more likely to meet current (PA) recommendations (p <0.001) than TYA cancer patients undergoing treatment (54.8% vs 52.3% vs 30.1%, respectively). Less than 40% of young people with cancer and controls met fat intake, sugar intake, fibre intake or current fruit and vegetable recommendations. TYA cancer survivors were more likely to report binge drinking than controls (OR=3.26, 95% CI 2.12-5.02, p <0.001). Very few young people with in the study were current smokers. The majority of TYA cancer patients and survivors reported a desire to make positive changes to their health behaviour. CONCLUSION Consideration should be given to whether existing health behaviour change interventions which have demonstrated positive effects among the general TYA population could be adapted for young people with cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical activity confers many physical and psychosocial benefits for adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, yet most are not active enough to accrue benefits. Parental support for physical activity may be important to consider when exploring factors that influence physical activity in this population. PURPOSE Explore adolescent and young adult cancer survivors' experiences of parental support for physical activity received and their parents' experiences of support provided. METHODS Ten adolescent and young adult cancer survivors (Mage = 17.4 ± 3.2 years; 70% male) and one of their parents (50% fathers) were interviewed separately. Data were analyzed thematically. RESULTS Participants' experiences were summarized into three main themes: (1) the basics - instrumental, informational, and emotional support, (2) companionship support - doing it together, and (3) role modeling - a double-edged sword. In general, there was congruence between participants' perceptions of the types of support provided and received for physical activity. However, parents felt their role was to provide instrumental, informational, and emotional support, whereas adolescent and young adult cancer survivors emphasized the importance of companionship support. CONCLUSIONS Findings underscore the complexity of parental support for physical activity among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. Developing and testing resources to empower adolescent and young adult cancer survivors to ask for parental support and to enable parents to support their child's physical activity is imperative.Implications for RehabilitationMany adolescent and young adult cancer survivors do not participate in enough physical activity to acquire physical and psychosocial benefits.Parental support may represent a key factor that influences physical activity participation.Rehabilitation professionals should consider the influence parents may have on adolescent and young adult cancer survivors' physical well-being post-diagnosis.Promoting co-participation may be a viable strategy to enhance physical activity participation among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors.

Abstract
Background Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors (i.e. individuals diagnosed with cancer between 15 and 39 years and who completed treatment) may benefit from physical activity. Yet, few researchers have explored the effects of physical activity on physical and psychological outcomes among AYA cancer survivors. A pilot study exploring the feasibility and acceptability of a physical activity intervention and proposed trial methods to inform a definitive randomized controlled trial (RCT) is therefore necessary to fill this gap. Methods A two-arm, mixed-methods pilot RCT was conducted. Participants were randomized to a wait-list control group or a 12-week physical activity intervention comprised of 4 weekly aerobic and strength training sessions (intervention group). Feasibility measures included: number of AYA cancer survivors referred/self-referred, eligible, and recruited, retention to the trial (i.e. assessment completion), adherence to the physical activity intervention, and percentage of missing data for baseline (week 0), mid- (week 6), and post-intervention assessments (week 12). The acceptability of trial methods (all participants) and the intervention (intervention group only) was assessed via qualitative interviews post-intervention. Results Over a 12-month period, 31 AYA cancer survivors were referred/self-referred and 16 were eligible and consented to participate. Retention to the trial was 94% and adherence to the physical activity intervention ranged from 50 to 92%. With the exception of the assessment of aerobic capacity and directly measured physical activity behaviour, there were no missing data. Participants generally reported being satisfied with the trial methods and intervention; however, issues related to delivery of the physical activity intervention were identified. Conclusions The methods and intervention piloted require modification and further pilot testing in advance of a definitive RCT. Recruitment strategies identifying a greater number of younger AYA cancer survivors who have different types of cancers and who lack motivation to participate in physical activity-based studies should be explored. Refining the assessments of directly measured physical activity behaviour and aerobic capacity and incorporating behavioural support into the intervention may improve feasibility and acceptability. This study highlights the value of doing pilot work and provides critically useful data that can be used to refine studies seeking to assess causation and optimize physical activity interventions for AYA cancer survivors. Abstract
OBJECTIVES (a) Describe levels of physical and global self-esteem and (b) explore the relationships between these types of self-esteem and physical activity (PA) behaviour, self-efficacy for PA and physical self-perceptions among adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors. METHODS A total of 87 AYA cancer survivors (Mage = 32.90 ± 4.38 years), who were on average 2.08 ± 1.37 years post-treatment, participated in this cross-sectional observational study. Descriptive statistics, correlations and hierarchical multivariate linear regression analyses were used to analyse the data. RESULTS Moderate levels of physical and global self-esteem were reported. Both types of self-esteem were significantly related to physical self-perceptions, but not to PA behaviour nor self-efficacy for PA. Self-efficacy for PA moderated the relationship between physical self-perceptions and physical self-esteem, such that the association between physical self-perceptions and physical self-esteem was of stronger magnitude at higher levels of self-efficacy for PA than at lower levels of self-efficacy for PA. CONCLUSION This study provides a starting point for describing self-esteem and identifying the circumstances under which self-esteem may be optimised among AYA cancer survivors. Fostering feelings of confidence, competence and control over PA may help to promote psychological well-being among AYA cancer survivors.

Abstract
Interventions to change children's behavior typically target adults or children, but rarely both. The aims were to: (a) evaluate acceptability and feasibility of an innovative theory-based intervention designed to change both child and adult behavior, and (b) generate effect sizes for a definitive randomized controlled trial. The oral health of sixty children aged 5-9 years with a repaired cleft lip and/or palate was assessed before randomization to one of three conditions: (a) control group, (b) intervention group in which children and adults were asked to form implementation intentions, or (c) intervention plus booster group in which adults were additionally sent a reminder about the implementation intentions they and their children formed. Oral health assessments were repeated at 6-month follow-up alongside exit interviews. The procedures proved popular and participants exposed to the intervention additionally reported believing that forming implementation intentions was effective. Descriptive statistics generally showed oral health improvements across all conditions, although the effects were more marked in the intervention plus booster condition, where plaque improved by 44.53%, gingivitis improved by 20.00% and free sugar consumption improved by 8.92% (vs. 6.43% improvement, 15.00% deterioration and 15.58% improvement in the control group, respectively). Data collection procedures were acceptable and the intervention feasible. The effect sizes suggest that the intervention plus booster condition has sufficient promise to proceed to a fully-powered randomized controlled trial. The intervention has the potential to be adapted to tackle other child health behaviors and to be deployed at scale.

Abstract
This study explored the factor structure of four subscales from the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire-Short Form (PSDQ-S). Associations between subscales and personal and medical factors were also examined. The analytic sample consisted of 89 survivors of adolescent and young adult cancer (Mage at time of study = 32.96 ± 4.37 years; Mage at diagnosis = 31.16 ± 4.84 years; 75.3% female). Confirmatory factor analysis suggested a reasonable fit to the data, indicating that the PSDQ-S subscales examined could be used in future investigations with this population [χ2(38) = 46.9, p = 0.15; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.05, 90% confidence interval = 0-0.10; Comparative Fit Index = 0.97; Standardized Root Mean Square of the Residuals = 0.07]. Multiple linear regressions showed that personal and medical factors accounted for a significant amount of variance in the body fat subscale, with female sex and higher body mass index being significantly associated with lower positive perceptions about the amount of one's body fat. More research examining the factor structure of the PSDQ-S subscales is warranted, and future investigations exploring personal, medical, and modifiable factors associated with physical self-perceptions should be conducted.
