Abstract
Various pathways for the synthesis of beryllium triflate were investigated. The reaction of triflic acid or trimethylsilyl triflate with beryllium metal in liquid ammonia led to the formation of mono-, di-, and tetra-nuclear beryllium ammine complexes. Utilization of SMe2 as a solvent gave homoleptic Be(OTf)2. Various beryllium triflate complexes with N- and O-donor ligands as well as the complex anions [Be(OTf)4]2- and [Be2(OTf)6]2- were synthesized to evaluate the reactivity and solution properties of beryllium triflate. This showed that OTf- is not a weakly coordinating anion for Be2+ cations and that it exhibits good bridging properties.

Abstract
The reactivity of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane (D3 ) towards BeCl2 , BeBr2 , BeI2 and [Be3 Ph6 ]3 was investigated. While BeCl2 only showed unselective reactivity, BeBr2 , BeI2 and [Be3 Ph6 ] cleanly react to the trinuclear complexes [Be3 Br2 (OSiMe2 Br)4 ], [Be3 I2 (OSiMe2 I)4 ] and [Be3 Ph2 (OSiMe2 Ph)4 ]. These unprecedented bromide, iodide and phenyl transfer reactions from a group II metal onto silicon offer a versatile access to previously unknown diorgano bromo and iodo silanolates.

Abstract
In radionuclide compounds undergoing electron capture (EC) decay, the electron density at the nucleus (ρ(0)) and half-life of the nucleus are inversely proportional. Thus, the decay can be accelerated by changing the chemical or physical conditions. A previous study reported a 1.1-1.5% reduction in the half-life of 7Be encapsulated in C60 compared with 7Be metal. However, 7Be was inserted into the fullerene using the rebound energy of the nuclear reaction, which may not be a practical method. This paper elucidates the mechanism of ρ(0) change in various Be compounds from density functional calculations and attempts to propose better systems that show faster EC decay (larger ρ(0)) and/or that are easier to generate than Be in C60. In typical Be compounds, ρ(0) decreases because Be donates electrons to other atoms through chemical bonds and, thus, is not effective. Among the various Be-encapsulated fullerenes (C20-C180), the largest increase in ρ(0) was obtained for C50 fullerene, but the magnitude was almost similar to that of C60. As new systems, we propose Be-encapsulated rare gas solids, which would be generated only by applying high pressure. An increase in ρ(0) from Be metal in the range 2-10%, which depends on the lattice constant, is obtained.

Abstract
The suitability of ethylenediamine (en) as an alternative solvent to liquid ammonia in beryllium chemistry was evaluated. Therefore, BeF2, BeCl2, BeBr2, BeI2, [Be(NH3)4](N3)2, [Be(NH3)4](CN)2 and [Be(NH3)4](SCN)2 were reacted with ethylenediamine and analysed via NMR and IR spectroscopy. Additionally single crystal structures of [BeF2(en)]n, [Be(en)3]Cl2, [Be(en)3]Br2, [Be(en)2]I2·en, [Be(en)2](N3)2·en, [Be(en)2]4(SCN)7Cl and [Be3(OH)3(en)3][C2H9N2](SCN)4 were obtained. The anions were found to have a distinct influence on the solubility as well as on the species present in solution and the solid state, while ethylenediamine can act as mono- and bidentate ligand or as a crystal solvent.

Abstract
Abstract
The solution behavior of beryllium halides and triflate in acetonitrile was studied by NMR, IR and Raman spectroscopy. Thereby mononuclear units [(MeCN)2BeX
2] (X = Cl, Br, I, OTf) were identified as dominant species in these solutions. The solid state structure of [(MeCN)2Be(OTf)2] has been determined by X-ray diffraction. If only one equivalent of MeCN is used the dinuclear compounds [(MeCN)BeX
2]2 (X = Cl, Br, I) are formed. Partial halide and triflate dissociation into the monomeric complexes as well as the formation of hetero-halide complexes [(MeCN)2BeClBr], [(MeCN)2BeClI] and [(MeCN)2BeBrI] was observed.

Abstract
The first synthesis of BePh2 was accomplished almost a century ago. However, its structure has remained unknown so far, while the corresponding aryls of the elements adjacent to beryllium in the periodic table are well investigated. Herein, we present an improved synthesis for diphenylberyllium and show by X-ray diffraction that it forms a trinuclear complex in the solid state. NMR spectroscopy revealed that this structure is also retained in solution but exhibits dynamic behavior. Its stability against heat and coordinating solvents is discussed and the possible obstacles to the synthesis of BePh2 from BeCl2 are examined. In the process of this study two ether adducts, BePh2 ⋅Et2 O and Be2 Ph4 ⋅Et2 O, have been characterized as well as the previously unknown triphenylberyllate anion. From the latter several single-crystal structures were obtained under various conditions, in which [BePh3 ]- is either isolated or acts as a ligand for Li+ . Furthermore, the crown ether induced selfionization of BePh2 is described and the resulting [(12-crown-4)BePh]+ cation was isolated, which shows an unusual 4+1 coordination around the Be atom.

Abstract
Abstract
9Be solution NMR spectroscopy is a useful tool for the characterisation of beryllium complexes. An updated comprehensive table of the 9Be NMR chemical shifts of beryllium complexes in solution is presented. The recent additions span a greater range of chemical shifts than those previously reported, and more overlap is observed between the chemical shift regions of four-coordinate complexes and those with lower coordination numbers. Four-coordinate beryllium species have smaller ω
1/2 values than the two- and three-coordinate species due to their higher order symmetry. In contrast to previous studies, no clear relationship is observed between chemical shift and the size and number of chelate rings.

Abstract
The title organic-inorganic hybrid salts poly[trimethylsulfonium [[dichloridoantimony(III)]-di-μ-chlorido]], {(C3H9S)[SbCl4]}n, (I), and catena-poly[trimethylsulfonium [cadmium(II)-tri-μ-chlorido]], {(C3H9S)[CdCl3]}n, (II), consist of trimethylsulfonium cations and polymeric {[SbCl4](-)}n or {[CdCl3](-)}n anions. The central metal atoms are coordinated by six Cl atoms, forming an anionic {[SbCl4](-)}n three-dimensional framework (two of the four bridging chloride anions are located on two different centres of inversion) or anionic {[CdCl3](-)}n one-dimensional chains. The trimethylsulfonium cation of (II) is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.791 (4):0.209 (4) ratio. All the anions are linked by trimethylsulfonium cations through weak C-H···Cl hydrogen bonds to form three-dimensional structures.
