Abstract
In this study, a simple, rapid and sensitive method combining surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and Schiff base reaction was developed for the detection of tryptophan. This method does not require product separation to obtain a significant Raman signal of the derivatized product, and the derivatization reaction can be controlled by experimental parameters such as reaction temperature, time, concentration of derivatization reagent and concentration of sodium nitrite. The characteristic peak of the derivative of tryptophan (1620 cm-1) was selected for quantitative analysis, and the intensity of the characteristic Raman spectrum peak showed a linear relationship with the concentration of tryptophan (10-8-10-4 mol/L) in the range of with a correlation coefficient R2 of 0.9922. This assay combines surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and Schiff base reaction, which is characterized by high sensitivity and easy operation, and has good application prospects in the detection of tryptophan in food.

Abstract
Chiral recognition of amino acid enantiomers is critical in enhancing drug efficacy, detecting disease markers, and understanding physiological processes. Enantioselective fluorescent identification has gained attention among researchers due to its nontoxicity, easy synthesis, and biocompatibility. In this work, chiral fluorescent carbon dots (CCDs) were produced through a hydrothermal reaction followed by chiral modification. The fluorescent probe, Fe3+-CCDs (F-CCDs), was constructed by complexing Fe3+ with CCDs to differentiate between the enantiomers of tryptophan (Trp) and determine ascorbic acid (AA) through an "on-off-on" response. It is worth noting that l-Trp can greatly enhance the fluorescence of F-CCDs with a blue shift, whereas d-Trp does not have any effect on the fluorescence of F-CCDs. F-CCDs showed a low limit of detection (LOD) for l-Trp and l-AA, with an LOD of 3.98 and 6.28 μM, respectively. The chiral recognition mechanism of tryptophan enantiomers using F-CCDs was proposed based on the interaction force between the enantiomers and F-CCDs, as confirmed by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. The determination of l-AA by F-CCDs was also confirmed through the binding of l-AA to Fe3+ to release CCDs, as seen in UV-vis absorption spectra and time-resolved fluorescence decays. In addition, AND and OR gates were constructed based on the different responses of CCDs to Fe3+ and Fe3+-CCDs to l-Trp/d-Trp, demonstrating the significance of molecular-level logic gates in drug detection and clinical diagnosis.

Abstract
Chemical stability is one of the key concerns in coordination polymers (CPs). However, technologies to protect CPs against acidic or alkaline aqueous environments have yet to be implemented. Herein we demonstrate an approach for improving the pH stability by utilizing the ligand salt as buffering site to modify the unsaturated coordination sites of CPs. For the selective one-dimensional CP Eu-d-DBTA (d-H2DBTA = d-O,O'-dibenzoyltartaric acid) with a pH stability range of 6-8, the introduction of the ligand salt Na-d-DBTA extends the pH stability interval from 3 to 11. Crystallographic structure data reveal the formation of a Eu/Na-d-DBTA dynamic structure with Na-d-DBTA buffer sites on the Eu-O cluster of the Eu-d-DBTA skeleton. Benefiting from the dynamic single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation, the buffer sites protect the skeleton from the impact of the acidic or alkaline aqueous environment. In addition, Eu/Na-d-DBTA produces stable photoluminescence properties and selective responses toward l-tryptophan (l-Trp) and further toward l-lysine (l-Lys) over the whole buffer capacity range of 3-11. Noticeably, other Ln/Na-d-DBTA CPs and star metal-organic frameworks also exhibit pH stability improvement when the ligand-as-buffer technology is used, which is significant for developing advanced inorganic-organic hybrid materials with superior functionality.

Abstract
By immobilizing the chiral center l-histidine (l-His) into a Zr-based metal-organic framework (MOF) through post-synthetic ligand exchange, a chiral compound MOF-His has been prepared. On this basis, MOF-His is hybridized with Eu3+ ions to obtain the final responsive compound Eu@MOF-His. It is worth noting that the bifunctional material exhibits enantioselective luminescence properties for tryptophan enantiomers. The experimental results demonstrate that tryptophan enantiomers can effectively quench the red-light emission of Eu3+ ions, and also, the quenching rates are various, which may originate from the differences in the interaction between analytes and chiral recognition sites. In addition, Eu@MOF-His can realize the sensing of tryptophan enantiomers in serum. Concurrently, the compound possesses reusability, high sensitivity, and fast response speed, which means that it has the potential to serve as an excellent fluorescent sensor for detecting and identifying tryptophan enantiomers.

Abstract
The development of fluorescence molecules for the fast and effective detection of L-tryptophan (L-Trp) has attracted a lot of attention because it is an important amino acid for baby growth, nitrogen equilibrium in adults, improving sleep, and mood regulation. A dimedone-phenylalanine-based chiral sensor (SDPA) was synthesized and exhibited a strong fluorescence quenching by Fe3+ and Cu2+ in a water/DMSO (3/7) solution with a detection limit of 2.29 × 10-6 M and 6.37 × 10-6 M, respectively. The factors affecting fluorescence sensings, such as the pH and competing cations, were studied. The sensor can be reused at least five times after being treated with EDTA. The Job plot, ESI-MS spectra, 1H NMR spectra, absorbance, and fluorescence titration experiments were investigated to study the mechanism of SDPA-Fe3+ and SDPA-Cu2+ complexation. The SDPA-Cu2+ complex can detect L-tryptophan and L-cysteine at trace levels by turn-on fluorescence with a detection limit of 9.35 × 10-6 M and 8.86 × 10-6 M, respectively. Moreover, applying the SDPA-Cu2+ complex for quantitative analysis of L-tryptophan in real sleep-improving capsules resulted in good recovery. The L-tryptophan level of the Elining capsule was determined at 190.8 ± 10.5 mg/g (mg L-tryptophan/g medicine), which is close to the announced quantity of 180 mg/g. Besides, the SDPA-Cu2+ complex can selectively detect free L-Try molecules and L-Try residues in proteins.

Abstract
Tryptophan (Trp) is one of the essential amino acids, which plays important roles in biological systems and the normal growth of human beings, and it is of great significance to be able to detect Trp in a rapid, efficient, and sensitive way. Herein, a 3D network metal-organic framework ([Sm2(BTEC)1.5(H2O)8]·6H2O) with excellent thermal and water stability was synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Interestingly, it could discriminate Trp from other natural amino acids in aqueous solution through a significant fluorescence enhancement effect, and showed high detection sensitivity (LOD = 330 nM) and outstanding anti-interference ability. The sensor system was successfully applied to the detection of Trp in practical samples, so it was expected to be a sensitive and efficient Trp sensor. In addition, the sensing mechanism was explained in detail by a series of characterization methods combined with density functional theory (DFT). There were many coordination water molecules in the crystal structure of the complex. Based on the small steric hindrance and molecular structure of water molecules, it provided the possibility for coordination interaction between Trp and Sm3+. On the other hand, the triplet energy level (T1) of Trp matched with the 4G5/2 vibrational energy level of Sm3+, so Trp could be used as the second "antenna molecule" besides 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid (H4BTEC). Therefore, it effectively broadened the way for Sm-MOF to absorb excitation light.

Abstract
Simultaneous high sensitivity detection of biomolecules is important for research in medicine, living cells and environmental samples. In this work, a water stable coordination polymer, [Cd2(bptc)(4,4'-bpy)(H2O)3]ˑH2O 1 (H4bptc = 2,3,3',4'-biphenyl tetracarboxylic acid, 4,4'-bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine), was designed and successfully synthesized as a luminescent sensor for simultaneous recognition of Ascorbic Acid (AA) and L-Tryptophan (L-Trp) based on luminescent -OFF and -ON, respectively. Importantly, the proposed sensing system showed an excellent performance with high KSV values of 4.85 × 104 M-1, 9.60 × 107 M-1 and low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.28 nM, 63 nM, respectively. In addition, the probable mechanisms are also discussed. The luminescent quenching behavior by AA can be mainly attributed to the static resonance energy transfer between complex 1 and the analytes. Whereas the enhancing effect of L-Trp comes from the intrinsic strong luminescence for L-Trp itself and photo-competitive mechanism between CP 1 sensor and L-Trp, supposedly. In addition, the repeatability of both systems were also investigated.

Abstract
Water-soluble carbon spheres (CS) were prepared by a facile one-step hydrothermal synthetic method using glucose as a carbon source and sodium hydroxide as additives. The morphology and the chemical structure were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In addition, the ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectrum and the fluorescence spectrum of the prepared CS were also investigated. The emission spectrum of the obtained CS depends on the excitation wavelength, which is similar to that of most carbon quantum dots. The fluorescence of the CS is quenched in the presence of Cr3+, Fe3+ and Hg2+. Based on this feature, the selective and sensitive detections of Cr3+, Fe3+ and Hg2+ were performed, and the detection limits were 6.72, 7.26, and 9.51 μM, respectively.

Abstract
A new Cu-doped carbon dots (Cu-CDs) were synthesized rapidly and simply via one-step thermolysis of Na2[Cu(EDTA)] and ascorbic acid (AA) at 250°C for 2h with a high quantum yield of 9.8%. The Cu-CDs exhibits two signals of fluorescence at 396nm and second-order scattering (SOS) at 617nm under a single excitation wavelength of 308nm, and can be obviously enhanced by tryptophan (Trp) or Fe(III) leading to the ratiometric fluorescence and SOS response with a good linear wider range of 0.5-250μM and 0.1-50μM, respectively. This sensing system exhibits good selectivity and sensitivity toward Trp and Fe(III) over other analytes with a low detection limit of 275nM and 46nM, respectively. Furthermore, the proposed sensing system displays a prospective application for quantitative assay of Trp and Fe(III) in practical sample.
