Abstract
Depression is a common and complex neuropsychiatric disorder affecting people of all ages worldwide, associated with high rates of relapse and disability. Neohesperidin (NEO) is a dietary flavonoid with applications in therapeutics; however, its effects on depressive-like behavior remain unknown. Here, we evaluated the effects of NEO on depressive-like behavior induced by chronic and unpredictable mild stress (CUMS). NEO (25, 50, and 100 mg kg-1) treatment for two weeks dose-dependently improved CUMS-induced depressive-like behavior measured by the sucrose preference, open field, forced swimming, and tail suspension tests. Moreover, NEO effectively blocked the decrease of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase activity and the increase of malondialdehyde levels, which are markers of oxidative stress. In addition, NEO inhibited microglial activation and the production of proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. Molecular docking and dynamic simulations showed that NEO has good affinity for NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3), suggesting that NEO may play an antidepressant role by regulating the NLRP3 signaling pathway. Western blotting results further revealed that the increased expression level of NLRP3 inflammasome components (NLRP3, caspase-1, and ASC) in CUMS mice was significantly reversed by NEO treatment. These results suggest that NEO is a candidate for treating depression and should be considered for further clinical development.

Abstract
Depression is a mental disorder characterized by low mood, lack of motivation, negative cognitive outlook, and sleep problems. Suicide may occur in severe cases, although suicidal thoughts are not seen in all cases. Globally, an estimated 350 million individuals grapple with depression, as reported by the World Health Organization. At present, drug and psychological treatments are the main treatments, but they produce insufficient responses in many patients and fail to work at all in many others. Consequently, treating depression has long been an important topic in society. Given the escalating prevalence of depression, a comprehensive strategy for managing its symptoms and impacts has garnered significant attention. In this context, nutritional psychiatry emerges as a promising avenue. Extensive research has underscored the potential benefits of a well-rounded diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat in alleviating depressive symptoms. However, the intricate mechanisms linking dietary interventions to brain function alterations remain largely unexplored. This review delves into the intricate relationship between dietary patterns and depression, while exploring the plausible mechanisms underlying the impact of dietary interventions on depression management. As we endeavor to unveil the pathways through which nutrition influences mental well-being, a holistic perspective that encompasses multidisciplinary strategies gains prominence, potentially reshaping how we approach and address depression.

Abstract
Surgical treatments and chemotherapy are the most commonly used methods of colorectal cancer treatment (CRC), unfortunately, these therapies have many side effects. Moreover, despite advances in primary and adjuvant treatments, the survival time in CRC patients is still unsatisfactory. Treatment options for patients with CRC continue to advance and recent research has shown that colorectal cancer is sensitive to plant-derived substances. The use of natural compounds contained in herbal extracts for the treatment of colon cancer or as adjunctive therapy for CRC gives patients a wide range of treatment options. In this study, we evaluate the potential toxicity of the Mongolian preparation - Gurgem-7 composed of Crocus sativus, Veronica officinalis, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, Calendula officinalis, Gentiana lutea, and Terminalia chebula. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine its biological activities, biochemical and molecular features in vitro and composition analysis by HPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS platform. We identified 18 metabolites and 8 of them were quantified. Majority of the secondary metabolites belonged to the group of phenolic constituents with taxifolin, chlorogenic acids' family, hydroxysafflor yellow A and hydroxybenzoic acid as leading compounds. In turn, our in vitro results suggest that the preparation inhibits cell metabolic activity through oxidative stress, numerous DNA damage and cell cycle arrest. Simultaneously enzymatic and non-enzymatic cell protection mechanisms mediated by TP53/Keap1 and Nrf2/HO-1 pathways may be activated in a cell-specific manner in vitro. In conclusion, we provide preliminary molecular evidence of the toxic properties of Gurgem-7 preparation to Caco-2 and CT26. WT cells related to insufficient action of their repair and adaptive mechanisms to stress conditions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Jiao-tai-wan (JTW) has been often used to treat insomnia and diabetes mellitus. Recent studies found its antidepressant activity, but the related mechanism is not clear. This study is to evaluate the therapeutic effects of JTW on chronic restraint stress (CRS)-induced depression mice and explore the potential mechanisms. METHODS CRS was used to set up a depression model. Mice in different groups were treated with 0.9 % saline, JTW and fluoxetine. After the last day of CRS, the behavioral tests were conducted. The levels of neurotransmitters, inflammatory cytokines and HPA axis index were detected and the protein expressions of NLRP3 inflammasome complex were determined. H&E, NISSL, TUNEL and immunofluorescence staining were used to observe histopathological changes and the activation of microglia and astrocytes. The potential mechanisms were explored via network pharmacology and verified by Western blot. RESULTS The assessment of liver and kidney function showed that JTW was non-toxic. Behavioral tests proved that JTW can effectively ameliorate depression-like symptoms in CRS mice, which may be related to the inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome activation. JTW can also improve the inflammatory state and HPA axis hyperactivity in mice, and has a protective effect on CRS-induced hippocampal neurons damage. The network pharmacology analysis and the results of Western blot suggested that the antidepressant effects of JTW may be related to the MAPK signaling pathway. CONCLUSION Our findings indicated that JTW may exert antidepressant effects in CRS-induced mice by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation and improving inflammatory state, and MAPK signaling pathway may also be involved.

Abstract
Depressive Disorder is a common mood disorder or affective disorder that is dominated by depressed mood. It is characterized by a high incidence and recurrence. The onset of depression is related to genetic, biological and psychosocial factors. However, the pathogenesis is still unclear. In recent years, there has been an increasing amount of research on the inflammatory hypothesis of depression, in which cyclo-oxygen-ase 2 (COX-2), a pro-inflammatory cytokine, is closely associated with depression. A variety of chemical drugs and natural products have been found to exert therapeutic effects by modulating COX-2 levels. This paper summarizes the relationship between COX-2 and depression in terms of neuroinflammation, intestinal flora, neurotransmitters, HPA axis, mitochondrial dysfunction and hippocampal neuronal damage, which can provide a reference for further preventive control, clinical treatment and scientific research on depression.
