Abstract
Decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) has been universally detected in environmental media and animals, but its damage to ovarian function and mechanism is still unclear, and melatonin has been shown to improve mammalian ovarian function. This study aimed to investigate the toxic effects of BDE-209 on the ovary and tried to improve ovarian function with melatonin. Herein, BDE-209 was administered orally to female SD rats for 60 days. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, HE staining, transcriptome analysis, qPCR and immunohistochemical staining were used to explore and verify the potential mechanism. We found that BDE-209 exposure had effects on the ovary, as shown by abnormal changes in the estrous cycle, hormone levels and ovarian reserve function in rats, while increasing the proportion of collagen fibres in ovarian tissue. In terms of mechanism, cuproptosis, a form of cell death, was identified to play a crucial role in BDE-209-induced ovarian dysfunction, with the phenotype manifested as copper salt accumulation in ovary, downregulation of glutathione pathway metabolism and copper transfer molecule (ATP7A/B), and upregulation of FDX1, lipoic acid pathway (LIAS, LIPT1), pyruvate dehydrogenase complex components (DLAT, PDHB, PDHA1), and copper transfer molecule (SLC31A1). Furthermore, possible interventions were explored. Notably, a supplement with melatonin has a repair effect on the damage to ovarian function by reversing the gene expression of cuproptosis-involved molecules. Overall, this study revealed that cuproptosis is involved in BDE-209-induced ovarian damage and the beneficial effect of melatonin on ovarian copper damage, providing evidence for the prevention and control of female reproductive damage induced by BDE-209.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence on the association between visceral lipid accumulation and infertility remains limited and controversial. Therefore, the current investigation is the first investigation to unveil this correlation by utilizing novel indicators of visceral lipid accumulation. METHODS The present study utilized the NHANES 2013-2020 dataset. Researchers utilized multiple logistic regression, smoothed curve fitting, and subgroup analysis to investigate the associations of waist circumference (WC), metabolic score for visceral fat (METS-VF), lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI) with infertility. Additionally, the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm model was utilized to evaluate the relative importance of the factors. RESULTS After adjusting for potential factors that could influence the results, researchers discovered that all these four indicators of visceral lipid accumulation exhibited strong positive correlations with the probability of infertility. The subgroup analysis demonstrated that the correlations remained consistent in the majority of subgroups (P for interaction > 0.05). The results of XGBoost algorithm model indicate that METS-VF is the most meaningful factor in infertility. The ROC curve research revealed that while METS-VF had the greatest AUC values, there was no variation in the AUC value of different markers of visceral fat accumulation (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The present investigation discovered that increased WC, METS-VF, LAP, and VAI were associated with a heightened prevalence of infertility.

Abstract
The cryopreservation and transplantation of ovarian tissue underscore its paramount importance in safeguarding reproductive capacity and ameliorating reproductive disorders. However, challenges persist in ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation (OTC-T), including the risk of tissue damage and dysfunction. Consequently, there has been a compelling exploration into the realm of nanoregulators to refine and enhance these procedures. This review embarks on a meticulous examination of the intricate anatomical structure of the ovary and its microenvironment, thereby establishing a robust groundwork for the development of nanomodulators. It systematically categorizes nanoregulators and delves deeply into their functions and mechanisms, meticulously tailored for optimizing ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation. Furthermore, the review imparts valuable insights into the practical applications and obstacles encountered in clinical settings associated with OTC-T. Moreover, the review advocates for the utilization of microbially derived nanomodulators as a potent therapeutic intervention in ovarian tissue cryopreservation. The progression of these approaches holds the promise of seamlessly integrating nanoregulators into OTC-T practices, thereby heralding a new era of expansive applications and auspicious prospects in this pivotal domain.

Abstract
The number of children, adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer has been rising recently. Various oncological treatments have a detrimental effect on female fertility, and childbearing becomes a major issue during surveillance after recovery. This review discusses the impact of oncological treatments on the ovarian reserve with a thorough explanation of oncologic treatments' effects and modes of oncofertility procedures. The aim of this review is to help clinicians in making an informed decision about post-treatment fertility in their patients. Ultimately, it may lead to improved overall long-term outcomes among young populations suffering from cancer.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION Is intra-abdominal fat obesity associated with infertility? DESIGN This study analysed data from the 2013-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, with a total of 3013 women enrolled. The participants were divided into two groups: infertility and non-infertility. Differences between the two groups were analysed using a weighted Student's t-test or Mann-Whitney U-test for continuous variables, or a weighted chi-squared test for categorical data. Visceral adipose tissue area (VATA) was assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. The independent association between infertility and log VATA was assessed by weighted multivariate logistic regression models. Subgroup analyses were performed to assess the strength of the results. Interaction tests were used to examine whether covariates interacted with log VATA to influence infertility. RESULTS Log VATA was significantly higher in the infertility group compared with the non-infertility group (P < 0.001). After adjustment for potential confounders, the results of multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that an increase in log VATA was associated with increased prevalence of female infertility (OR = 2.453, 95% CI 1.278-4.792). Subgroup analyses showed this association in individuals aged <35 years (P = 0.002), Mexican-Americans (P = 0.033), non-hypertensive individuals (P = 0.013) and non-diabetic individuals (P = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS An enlarged VATA is associated with increased risk of infertility. The direct effect of VATA on female infertility needs to be clarified further to provide a basis for future prevention and treatment of female infertility.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Radiographers are responsible for protecting foetuses against ionising radiation and must screen all individuals for pregnancy prior to a pelvic X-ray examination following new guidance from the Society of Radiographers. This includes male, female, transgender, non-binary and intersex patients. Student diagnostic radiographers learn to undertake this screening so this project was designed to understand their attitudes towards doing so. METHOD A qualitative study was conducted with third-year students on the BSc Diagnostic Radiography programme at a University in the North West of England. Following ethical approval, focus groups were conducted using open-ended questions to gain insight into how comfortably students conduct Inclusive Pregnancy Status (IPS) checks at seven National Health Service (NHS) Trust clinical placement sites. Students were also asked about their attitudes towards IPS checks. These data were analysed using Clarke and Braun's thematic analysis model. RESULTS The analysis of seven focus groups with nineteen participants yielded four themes: education, standardisation, fear of reaction, and placement involvement. Barriers to conducting IPS checks include a lack of staff encouragement as guidance is enforced at the employers' discretion, and a lack of awareness around transgender, non-binary and intersex (TNBI) inclusivity. Students showed a willingness to conduct IPS checks despite this. CONCLUSION Age and experience range of participants were limiting factors in this study. Students who had the opportunity to practice and were encouraged to conduct IPS checks on placement felt confident in doing so. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE More training and awareness should be provided surrounding LGBTQ + issues in healthcare. IPS checks should be standardised across placement sites to ensure equal learning opportunities.

Abstract
Background and aim Baneh (Pistacia atlantica) is a plant species that is commonly consumed as food and has a long-standing traditional use as a sexual enhancer. Despite its widespread use, a limited amount of academic and scientific literature is available regarding its potential impact on the reproductive system. The present research aimed to study the effect of a diet enriched with Baneh on the female rats' reproductive system. Experimental procedure Three groups of rats (n = 8) were subjected to the intended diet for six weeks. Subsequently, their histomorphometric parameters, sex hormone levels, as well as the expression of oxytocin (OXT) and oxytocin receptor (OXTR) genes were measured. The rats' serum vitamin D, zinc, and lipid profiles were also evaluated. Results and conclusion Results revealed that compared to the normal food, the diet containing 20 % Baneh significantly increased the progesterone and estradiol levels three and two times, respectively. It decreased the total body weight while increasing the ratio of ovary weight to the body weight. Furthermore, the Baneh-enriched diet raised HDL, zinc, and vitamin D levels, though it reduced the LDL and TG levels by 15 μg/dl and 24 μg/dl, respectively, and the concentration of ovary malondialdehyde decreased by 50 % in the treated group. Also, the diet increased the follicle graph, corpus luteum, the thickness of the epithelium, the number of endometrial glands, and the expression of both OXT and OXTR genes. Our findings suggested that P. atlantica could considerably improve the female sex hormone levels and their reproductive system.

Abstract
Mitochondria have a crucial role in cellular function and exhibit remarkable plasticity, adjusting both their structure and activity to meet the changing energy demands of a cell. Oocytes, female germ cells that become eggs, undergo unique transformations: the extended dormancy period, followed by substantial increase in cell size and subsequent maturation involving the segregation of genetic material for the next generation, present distinct metabolic challenges necessitating varied mitochondrial adaptations. Recent findings in dormant oocytes challenged the established respiratory complex hierarchies and underscored the extent of mitochondrial plasticity in long-lived oocytes. In this review, we discuss mitochondrial adaptations observed during oocyte development across three vertebrate species (Xenopus, mouse, and human), emphasising current knowledge, acknowledging limitations, and outlining future research directions.

Abstract
Background Obesity and psychological factors were identified as risk factors for female infertility. The study investigated the correlation between WWI, depression, and secondary infertility, focusing on the potential mediating role of depression. Methods According to the data from NHANES, this cross-sectional study used multiple regression analysis, subgroup analysis, and smooth curve fitting to explore the relationship between WWI, depression, and secondary infertility. The diagnostic ability of WWI was evaluated and compared to other obesity indicators using the ROC curve. The mediating effect test adopted the distribution of the product. Results This study involved 2778 participants, including 381 (13.7%) women with secondary infertility. Results showed that higher WWI (OR = 1.31; 95% CI, 1.11-1.56) and depression scores (OR = 1.03; 95% CI, 1.01-1.06) were associated with secondary infertility. There was a positive correlation between WWI and secondary infertility (nonlinear p = 0.8272) and this association was still consistent in subgroups (all P for interaction> 0.05). Compared with other obesity indicators, WWI (AUC = 0.588) also shows good predictive performance for secondary infertility. Mediation analysis showed that depression mediated the relationship between 3.94% of WWI and secondary infertility, with a confidence interval of Za * Zb excluding 0. Conclusion WWI exhibited a relatively good correlation in predicting secondary infertility than other obesity indicators, and depression may be a mediator between WWI and secondary infertility. Focusing on the potential mediating role of depression, the risk of secondary infertility due to obesity may be beneficially reduced in women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Family-planning policies have focused on contraceptive approaches to avoid unintended pregnancies, postpone, or terminate pregnancies and mitigate population growth. These policies have contributed to significantly slowing world population growth. Presently, half the countries worldwide exhibit a fertility rate below replacement level. Not including the effects of migration, many countries are predicted to have a population decline of >50% from 2017 to 2100, causing demographic changes with profound societal implications. Policies that optimize chances to have a child when desired increase fertility rates and are gaining interest as a family-building method. Increasingly, countries have implemented child-friendly policies (mainly financial incentives in addition to public funding of fertility treatment in a limited number of countries) to mitigate decreasing national populations. However, the extent of public spending on child benefits varies greatly from country to country. To our knowledge, this International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS) consensus document represents the first attempt to describe major disparities in access to fertility care in the context of the global trend of decreasing growth in the world population, based on a narrative review of the existing literature. OBJECTIVE AND RATIONALE The concept of family building, the process by which individuals or couples create or expand their families, has been largely ignored in family-planning paradigms. Family building encompasses various methods and options for individuals or couples who wish to have children. It can involve biological means, such as natural conception, as well as ART, surrogacy, adoption, and foster care. Family-building acknowledges the diverse ways in which individuals or couples can create their desired family and reflects the understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to building a family. Developing education programs for young adults to increase family-building awareness and prevent infertility is urgently needed. Recommendations are provided and important knowledge gaps identified to provide professionals, the public, and policymakers with a comprehensive understanding of the role of child-friendly policies. SEARCH METHODS A narrative review of the existing literature was performed by invited global leaders who themselves significantly contributed to this research field. Each section of the review was prepared by two to three experts, each of whom searched the published literature (PubMed) for peer reviewed full papers and reviews. Sections were discussed monthly by all authors and quarterly by the review board. The final document was prepared following discussions among all team members during a hybrid invitational meeting where full consensus was reached. OUTCOMES Major advances in fertility care have dramatically improved family-building opportunities since the 1990s. Although up to 10% of all children are born as a result of fertility care in some wealthy countries, there is great variation in access to care. The high cost to patients of infertility treatment renders it unaffordable for most. Preliminary studies point to the increasing contribution of fertility care to the global population and the associated economic benefits for society. WIDER IMPLICATIONS Fertility care has rarely been discussed in the context of a rapid decrease in world population growth. Soon, most countries will have an average number of children per woman far below the replacement level. While this may have a beneficial impact on the environment, underpopulation is of great concern in many countries. Although governments have implemented child-friendly policies, distinct discrepancies in access to fertility care remain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inflammation exerts a critical role in the pathogenesis of infertility. The relationship between inflammatory parameters from peripheral blood and infertility remains unclear. Aim of this study was to investigate the association between inflammatory markers and infertility among women of reproductive age in the United States. METHODS Women aged 20-45 were included from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2020 for the present cross-sectional study. Data of reproductive status was collected from the Reproductive Health Questionnaire. Six inflammatory markers, systemic immune inflammation index (SII), lymphocyte count (LC), product of platelet and neutrophil count (PPN), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR) were calculated from complete blood counts in mobile examination center. Survey-weighted multivariable logistic regression was employed to assess the association between inflammatory markers and infertility in four different models, then restricted cubic spline (RCS) plot was used to explore non-linearity association between inflammatory markers and infertility. Subgroup analyses were performed to further clarify effects of other covariates on association between inflammatory markers and infertility. RESULTS A total of 3,105 women aged 20-45 was included in the final analysis, with 431 (13.88%) self-reported infertility. A negative association was found between log2-SII, log2-PLR and infertility, with an OR of 0.95 (95% CI: 0.78,1.15; p = 0.60), 0.80 (95% CI:0.60,1.05; p = 0.10), respectively. The results were similar in model 1, model 2, and model 3. Compared with the lowest quartile (Q1), the third quartile (Q3) of log2-SII was negatively correlation with infertility, with an OR (95% CI) of 0.56 (95% CI: 0.37,0.85; p = 0.01) in model 3. Similarly, the third quartile (Q3) of log2-PLR was negatively correlation with infertility, with an OR (95% CI) of 0.61 (95% CI: 0.43,0.88; p = 0.01) in model 3. No significant association was observed between log2-LC, log2-PPN, log2-NLR, log2-LMR and infertility in model 3. A similar U-shaped relationship between log2-SII and infertility was found (p for non-linear < 0.05). The results of subgroup analyses revealed that associations between the third quartile (Q3) of log2-SII, log2-PLR and infertility were nearly consistent. CONCLUSION The findings showed that SII and PLR were negatively associated with infertility. Further studies are needed to explore their association better and the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: reproductive disorders are a serious global concern in medical, social, and demographic contexts. According to estimates, approximately 10-15% of couples around the world suffer from infertility. Numerous studies have shown that modifiable lifestyle factors, such as a high-fat diet, a postponed decision to start a family, tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption, risky sexual behavior, psychiatric diseases, and chronic stress, have a negative influence on the fertility of women. The main goal of this study is to assess the knowledge of women about reproductive health, infertility risk factors, and causes of infertility and to determine whether the level of this knowledge varies based on sociodemographic variables. Materials and Methods: a survey was conducted among 111 patients who anonymously filled in a questionnaire comprising questions regarding fertility and its deficiencies. The results were analyzed using the Chi-square test and Fisher's test. Results: the survey results indicated that women had a good or very good level of knowledge of the causes of infertility. The obtained test results were statistically significant (p < 0.05), but the studied group did not possess sufficient knowledge of the symptoms characterizing the diseases related to limited fertility (p > 0.05). The level of knowledge on the diagnosis of infertility did not depend on the age of the examined people, their educational level, or personal experience in this field (p > 0.05). The results also revealed that the awareness of women on reproductive health was poor. The studied women had a low level of knowledge of infertility risk factors, and their knowledge did not correlate with age, educational level, or personal experiences. Conclusions: information on the aspects of reproductive health should be widely disseminated through public educational campaigns, aimed at correcting erroneous convictions among women about the risk factors for infertility and assisting them in improving fertility.

Abstract
Introduction Female infertility is defined as the absence of clinical pregnancy after 12 months of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. Methods This study employed metabolomics and proteomics approaches to investigate the relationship between metabolites and proteins and female infertility. The study used metabolomics and proteomics data from the UK Biobank to identify metabolites and proteins linked to infertility. Results The results showed that GRAM domain-containing protein 1C and metabolites fibrinogen cleavage peptides ADpSGEGDFXAEGGGVR and 3-Hydroxybutyrate had a positive correlation with infertility, whereas proteins such as Interleukin-3 receptor subunit alpha, Thrombospondin type-1 domain-containing protein 1, Intestinal-type alkaline phosphatase, and platelet and endothelial cell adhesion molecule 1 exhibited a negative correlation. These findings provide new clues and targets for infertility diagnosis and treatment. However, further research is required to validate these results and gain a deeper understanding of the specific roles of these metabolites and proteins in infertility pathogenesis. Discussion In conclusion, metabolomics and proteomics techniques have significant application value in the study of infertility, allowing for a better understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying infertility and providing new insights and strategies for its diagnosis and treatment. These research findings provide a crucial biological mechanistic basis for early infertility screening, prevention, and treatment.

Abstract
Significant events that determine oocyte competence occur during follicular growth and oocyte maturation. The anti-Mullerian hormone, a positive predictor of fertility, has been shown to be affected by exposure to endocrine disrupting compounds, such as bisphenol A and S. However, the interaction between bisphenols and SMAD proteins, mediators of the anti-Mullerian hormone pathway, has not yet been elucidated. AMH receptor (AMHRII) and downstream SMAD expression was investigated in bovine granulosa cells treated with bisphenol A, bisphenol S, and then competitively with the anti-Mullerian hormone. Here, we show that 24-h bisphenol A exposure in granulosa cells significantly increased SMAD1, SMAD4, and SMAD5 mRNA expression. No significant changes were observed in AMHRII or SMADs protein expression after 24-h treatment. Following 12-h treatments with bisphenol A (alone or with the anti-Mullerian hormone), a significant increase in SMAD1 and SMAD4 mRNA expression was observed, while a significant decrease in SMAD1 and phosphorylated SMAD1 was detected at the protein level. To establish a functional link between bisphenols and the anti-Mullerian hormone signaling pathway, antisense oligonucleotides were utilized to suppress AMHRII expression with or without bisphenol exposure. Initially, transfection conditions were optimized and validated with a 70% knockdown achieved. Our findings show that bisphenol S exerts its effects independently of the anti-Mullerian hormone receptor, while bisphenol A may act directly through the anti-Mullerian hormone signaling pathway providing a potential mechanism by which bisphenols may exert their actions to disrupt follicular development and decrease oocyte competence.

Abstract
AIMS To explore the relationship between vitamin D and obesity and abdominal obesity in women with infertility. MATERIAL AND METHODS We screened the data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2016. A total of 201 infertile women between the ages of 20 and 40 years were included in our study. To estimate the independent association of vitamin D with obesity and abdominal obesity, we used weighted multivariate logistic regression models and cubic spline analyses. RESULTS Among infertile women in the NHANES 2013-2016 database, serum vitamin D levels were significantly and negatively associated with body mass index (ß= -0.96, 95% CI: -1.40, -0.51, p < 0.001)and waist circumference (ß= -0.40, 95% CI: -0.59, -0.22, p < 0.001), respectively. After multivariable adjustment, lower vitamin D levels were found to be associated with a higher prevalence of obesity (OR: 8.290, 95% CI: 2.451-28.039, p for trend = 0.001) and abdominal obesity (OR: 4.820, 95%CI: 1.351-17.194, p for trend =0.037). Spline regression showed linearity of the associations between vitamin D and obesity/abdominal obesity (p for nonlinearity > 0.05). CONCLUSION Our findings suggested that a decreased vitamin D might correspond to a higher prevalence of obesity in infertile women, which reminded us to pay more attention to the supplement of vitamin D in obese infertile women.

Abstract
To carry out an in-depth analysis of the scientific research on infertility, we performed the first bibliometric analysis focusing on studies involving global literature on infertility during the period 2013-2022. Analysis of 33239 articles in the field of infertility showed a significant increasing trend in the number of publications over the period 2013-2022, with authors mainly from the USA and China. Shanghai Jiao Tong University published the most articles. This study is the first to analyze the global field of infertility (2013-2022) from multiple indicators by bibliometrics, thus providing new insights into the research hotspots and development trends in the field of infertility.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infertility is a common reproductive disease that affects not only individuals and families, but also the growth of the social population. Hence, understanding the burden of female infertility in China and worldwide is of great significance for the development of infertility prevention and treatment strategies. METHODS The Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD 2019) Data Resources were used to collect and collate relevant data on female infertility in China and worldwide from 1990 to 2019. The difference in the number, age-standardised prevalence rate (ASPR), disability-adjusted life years and age-standardised disability-adjusted life years rate (ASDR) of women with infertility in different periods and geographical areas were analysed. The autoregressive integrated moving average method was used to predict the ASPR and ASDR of female infertility in China and worldwide in the next 11years. RESULTS In the past 30years, the number of female infertility cases increased by 7.06million in China and 56.71million worldwide. The corresponding average annual increase of ASPR was 10.10% and 7.28%, respectively, and that of ASDR was 0.08% and 0.79%, respectively. In addition, there are differences in age and time between Chinese and global female infertility. In 1990, the crude prevalence rate of female infertility was the highest in women aged 40-44years and 35-39years in China and worldwide, respectively. In 2019, the crude prevalence rate of female infertility was still the highest in women aged 40-44years in China, whereas that around the world reached the highest in women aged 30-34years, which was significantly earlier. The forecast for the next 11years suggests that the ASPR and ASDR for female infertility in China will first rise and then decline, but the overall magnitude of change is not very significant, whereas the ASPR and ASDR for female infertility globally are still on the rise. The ASPR value of female infertility is expected to be 5025.56 in 100 000 persons in China and 3725.51 in 100 000 persons worldwide by 2030. The ASDR value of female infertility is expected to be 26.16 in 100 000 persons in China and 19.96 in 100 000 persons worldwide by 2030. CONCLUSION The burden of female infertility is still increasing in China and worldwide. Therefore, it is of great significance to pay more attention to infertile women, and advocate a healthy lifestyle to reduce the burden of disease for infertile women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In Indian context, infertility is often a silent struggle. Despite the high prevalence of infertility in the country, the majority of couples do not share their struggles with family or friends due to social stigma, thus increasing their psychological vulnerability. Heartfulness meditation has shown to decrease stress, anxiety, loneliness and improve sleep along with quality of life. OBJECTIVES The current retrospective series evaluated the effectiveness of Heartfulness-based integrative therapy on infertility outcomes. METHODS The program consisted of a 5- day onsite lifestyle modification workshop and online follow up meditation sessions. RESULTS 54 couples with infertility participated in the program with a mean age of 30.74 years (SD 5.04) for females and 34.03 years (SD 4.54) for males. 15 couples presented with male infertility, 16 couples presented with female infertility and in 5 couples both partners had infertility problems. Further, 18 couples had unexplained infertility. 24 couples conceived with 18 natural conceptions, five via assisted reproductive technology and one spontaneous abortion. CONCLUSION The program was beneficial in the cohort who utilized it as prescribed resulting in conception of 24 out of 54 couples. Future research investigating the causal relationship of Heartfulness meditation on fertility outcomes in a randomized control study could solidify this treatment method to be used independently or as an adjuvant therapy with assisted reproductive technologies.

Abstract
The trend to delay parenthood is increasing, impacting fertility and reproductive outcomes. Advanced paternal age (APA), defined as men's age above 40 years at conception, has been linked with testicular impairment, abnormal semen parameters, and poor reproductive and birth outcomes. Recently, the significance of sperm microRNA for fertilization and embryonic development has emerged. This work aimed to investigate the effects of men's age on semen parameters and sperm microRNA profiles. The ejaculates of 333 Portuguese men were collected between 2018 and 2022, analyzed according to WHO guidelines, and a density gradient sperm selection was performed. For microRNA expression analysis, 16 normozoospermic human sperm samples were selected and divided into four age groups: ≤30, 31-35, 36-40, and >40 years. microRNA target genes were retrieved from the miRDB and TargetScan databases and Gene Ontology analysis was performed using the DAVID tool. No significant correlation was found between male age and conventional semen parameters, except for volume. Fifteen differentially expressed microRNAs (DEMs) between groups were identified. Enrichment analysis suggested the involvement of DEMs in the sperm of men with advanced age in critical biological processes like embryonic development, morphogenesis, and male gonad development. Targets of DEMs were involved in signaling pathways previously associated with the ageing process, including cellular senescence, autophagy, insulin, and mTOR pathways. These results suggest that although conventional semen parameters were not affected by men's age, alterations in microRNA regulation may occur and be responsible for poor fertility and reproductive outcomes associated with APA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity and metabolic syndrome are observed more frequently in infertile women, and insulin resistance (IR) is closely related to them. However, there are no studies that have examined the association between different IR surrogates and female infertility, hence we investigated the potential association between them in the general population. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2013-2018). The association of different IR surrogates (HOMA-IR index, TyG index and TyG-BMI index) with female infertility was estimated by multivariable regression analysis. RESULTS After adjusting for confounders, the HOMA-IR index and TyG index did not show an association with female infertility, while the TyG-BMI index was found to have a positive association with female infertility (OR = 1.01, 95% CI: 1.00, 1.01; P < 0.0001), and the OR of the TyG-BMI group T3 (≥ 255.55) was significantly different compared to the group T1 (< 185.31) (OR = 3.02, 95% CI: 1.62, 5.60). Similar results were seen in most of the subgroup participants by stratified analysis (P-interaction > 0.05). However, different IR surrogates did not show variability in their ability to predict infertility [TyG-BMI: 0.68 (95% CI: 0.62, 0.74) vs. TyG: 0.62 (95% CI: 0.57, 0.68) vs. HOMA-IR: 0.65 (95% CI: 0.60, 0.71)]. CONCLUSIONS Our result suggests that high levels of TyG-BMI index were positively associated with female infertility in US reproductive-aged females.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION What is the association between past infertility and the type and timing of menopause in midlife women? SUMMARY ANSWER Women with a history of infertility were more likely to experience surgical menopause overall and had elevated risk of earlier surgical menopause until age 43 years but experienced no differences in the timing of natural menopause. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Infertility is experienced by 12-25% of women and is thought to reveal a propensity for poor health outcomes, such as chronic illness, later in life. However, little is known about whether infertility is linked with characteristics of the menopausal transition as women age, despite possible shared underlying pathways involving ovarian function and gynecologic disease. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION Secondary analysis of a prospective cohort study of 13 243 midlife females recruited in Phase 1 of the Alberta's Tomorrow Project (Alberta, Canada) and followed approximately every 4 years (2000-2022). PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Data were collected through standardized self-report questionnaires. History of infertility, defined as ever trying to become pregnant for more than 1 year without conceiving, was measured at baseline. Menopause characteristics were measured at each study follow-up. Menopause type was defined as premenopause, natural menopause, surgical menopause (bilateral oophorectomy), or indeterminate menopause (premenopausal hysterectomy with ovarian conservation). Timing of natural menopause was defined as the age at 1 full year after the final menstrual period, and timing of surgical and indeterminate menopause was defined as the age at the time of surgery. We used flexible parametric survival analysis for the outcome of menopause timing with age as the underlying time scale and multinomial logistic regression for the outcome of menopause type. Multivariable models controlled for race/ethnicity, education, parity, previous pregnancy loss, and smoking. Sensitivity analyses additionally accounted for birth history, menopausal hormone therapy, body mass index, chronic medical conditions, and age at baseline. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Overall, 18.2% of women reported a history of infertility. Past infertility was associated with earlier timing of surgical menopause exclusively before age 43 years (age 35: adjusted hazard ratio 3.13, 95% CI 1.95-5.02; age 40: adjusted hazard ratio 1.83, 95% CI 1.40-2.40; age 45: adjusted hazard ratio 1.13, 95% CI 0.87-1.46) as well as greater odds of experiencing surgical menopause compared to natural menopause (adjusted odds ratio 1.40, 95% CI 1.18-1.66). Infertility was not associated with the timing of natural or indeterminate menopause. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Information on the underlying cause of infertility and related interventions was not collected, which precluded us from disentangling whether associations differed by infertility cause and treatment. Residual confounding is possible given that some covariates were measured at baseline and may not have temporally preceded infertility. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Women with a history of infertility were more likely to experience early surgical menopause and may therefore benefit from preemptive screening and treatment for gynecologic diseases to reduce bilateral oophorectomy, where clinically appropriate, and its associated health risks in midlife. Moreover, the lack of association between infertility and timing of natural menopause adds to the emerging knowledge that diminishing ovarian reserve does not appear to be a primary biological mechanism of infertility nor its downstream implications for women's health. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after unprotected sexual intercourse for at least 12 consecutive months. Our objective is to present an updated narrative review on the endocrine causes of infertility in women. AREAS COVERED A comprehensive review was conducted using Scielo, Scopus, and EMBASE databases, comprising 245 articles. The pathophysiology of infertility in women was described, including endocrinopathies such as hypothalamic amenorrhea, hyperprolactinemia, polycystic ovary syndrome, primary ovarian insufficiency, obesity, thyroid dysfunction, and adrenal disorders. The diagnostic approach was outlined, emphasizing the necessity of hormonal studies and ovarian response assessments. Additionally, the treatment plan was presented, commencing with non-pharmacological interventions, encompassing the adoption of a Mediterranean diet, vitamin supplementation, moderate exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight. Subsequently, pharmacological treatment was discussed, focusing on the management of associated endocrine disorders and ovulatory dysfunction. EXPERT OPINION This comprehensive review highlights the impact of endocrine disorders on fertility in women, providing diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms. Despite remaining knowledge gaps that hinder more effective treatments, ongoing research and advancements show promise for improved fertility success rates within the next five years. Enhanced comprehension of the pathophysiology behind endocrine causes and the progress in genetic research will facilitate the delivery of personalized treatments, thus enhancing fertility rates.

Abstract
BACKGROUND ZEB1 plays a role in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and acts as a repressor of E-cadherin, TGF-β, and Wnt/β-catenin. Since ZEB1 protein is expressed in estrogen-responsive tissues, and expression of the gene in the normal ovary and endometrium is positively correlated with high estrogen levels, we performed a direct analysis of granulosa cell samples to determine whether there are any significant changes in zeb1 expression during folliculogenesis. METHODS ZEB1 expression levels were measured in the granulosa cells of 56 infertile women undergoing IVF treatment. RNA extraction from granulosa cells was performed along with reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) with SYBR Green I to determine zeb1 gene expression levels. Statistical analysis was performed by using t-test, while possible correlations of the expression of ZEB1 protein with body mass index (BMI), age, number of oocytes, and oocyte maturation were investigated. RESULTS Zeb1 gene expression levels correlate significantly with body mass index (BMI) and age, but not with oocyte number and oocyte maturation stage. Obese women demonstrate a higher expression level of zeb1 gene compared to normal and overweight women. Moreover, zeb1 gene is overexpressed in women aged 35-40 years old and is under-expressed in women >40 years old. CONCLUSIONS ZEB1 expression should be further investigated as it may unveil new potential findings of the zeb1 gene's role in female fertility and its use as a biomarker in fertility workups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and mercury (Hg) have been shown to exhibit endocrine disrupting properties. Their effects on women's reproductive health, however, remain elusive. Here, we investigated associations between blood concentrations of Pb, Cd, Hg, and their mixture and infertility and long-term amenorrhea in women aged 20-49 years using the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2018 cross-sectional survey. METHODS A total of 1,990 women were included for the analysis of infertility and 1,919 women for long-term amenorrhea. The methods of log-transformation and use of quartiles were used to analyze blood heavy metal concentrations. Statistical differences in the covariates between the outcome groups were evaluated using a chi-squared test for categorical variables and a t-test for continuous variables. Multiple logistic regression models were used to examine the associations. RESULTS The blood concentrations of Pb and heavy metal mixtures were significantly higher in ever-infertile women than pregnant women, but the concentrations of Cd and Hg were comparable. After full adjustment, multiple logistic regression analyses revealed a significant and dose-dependent positive association between blood Pb concentrations and women's historical infertility, a negative association between Cd and women's long-term amenorrhea, and no associations between Hg and heavy metal mixture and women's infertility or long-term amenorrhea. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests that exposure to heavy metals exhibit differential associations with history of infertility and amenorrhea, and Pb may adversely impact women's reproduction and heighten the risks of infertility and long-term amenorrhea.

Abstract
Infertility has massively disrupted social and marital life, resulting in stressful emotional well-being. Early diagnosis is the utmost need for faster adaption to respond to these changes, which makes possible via AI tools. Our main objective is to comprehend the role of AI in fertility detection since we have primarily worked to find biomarkers and related risk factors associated with infertility. This paper aims to vividly analyse the role of AI as an effective method in screening, predicting for infertility and related risk factors. Three scientific repositories: PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, are used to gather relevant articles via technical terms: (human infertility OR human fertility) AND risk factors AND (machine learning OR artificial intelligence OR intelligent system). In this way, we systematically reviewed 42 articles and performed a meta-analysis. The significant findings and recommendations are discussed. These include the rising importance of data augmentation, feature extraction, explainability, and the need to revisit the meaning of an effective system for fertility analysis. Additionally, the paper outlines various mitigation actions that can be employed to tackle infertility and its related risk factors. These insights contribute to a better understanding of the role of AI in fertility analysis and the potential for improving reproductive health outcomes.

Abstract
Introduction Stress and infertility form a complex relationship. In line with this, various stress-related biological markers have been investigated in infertility. Methods This systematic review was performed using PRISMA guidelines (i) to report whether cortisol is highly present in infertile patients compared to fertile control; (ii) to report whether there is any significant difference in the cortisol level in infertile subjects that conceive and those that didn't at the end of assisted reproduction treatments. Original articles involving human (male and female) as subjects were extracted from four electronic databases, including the list of references from the published papers. Sixteen original full-length articles involving male (4), female (11), and both genders (1) were included. Results Findings from studies that compared the cortisol level between infertile and fertile subjects indicate that (i) Male: three studies reported elevated cortisol level in infertile patients and one found no significant difference; (ii) Female: four studies reported increased cortisol level in infertile subjects and three studies found no significant difference. Findings from studies that measured the cortisol level from infertile patients that conceived and those that didn't indicate that (i) Male: one study reported no significant difference; (ii) Female: one study reported elevated cortisol in infertile patients that conceived, whereas two studies reported increased cortisol in infertile patients that was unable to conceive. Five studies found no significant difference between the groups. Discussion In the present review we only included the cortisol value that was measured prior to stimulation or IVF treatment or during natural or spontaneous cycles, despite this, there are still variations in the sampling period, assessment techniques and patients' characteristics. Hence, at present, we are still unable to conclude that cortisol is significantly elevated in infertile patients. We warrant future studies to standardize the time of biological sample collection and other limitations that were addressed in the review to negate the unwanted influencing factors.

Abstract
Ovarian dysfunction is a common cause of female infertility, which is associated with genetic, autoimmune and environmental factors. Granulosa cells (GCs) constitute the largest cell population of ovarian follicles. Changes in GCs, including oxidative stress (OS) and excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), are involved in regulating ovary function. miR-484 is highly expressed in 3-NP-induced oxidative stress models of ovaries and GCs. miR-484 overexpression aggravated GCs dysfunction and thereby intensified ovarian oxidative stress injury in mice. Moreover, bioinformatic analyses, luciferase assays and pull-down assays indicated that LINC00958 acted as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) for miR-484 and formed a signaling axis with Sestrin2(SESN2) under oxidative stress conditions, which in turn regulated mitochondrial functions and mitochondrial-related apoptosis in GCs. Additionally, the inhibition of miR-484 alleviated GCs dysfunction under ovarian oxidative stress condition. Our present study revealed the role of miR-484 in oxidative stress of ovaries and GCs and the function of LINC00958/miR-484/SESN2 axis in mitochondrial function and mitochondria-related apoptosis.

Abstract
Nanoplastics (NPs) have recently emerged in the context of global plastic pollution. They may be more toxic than macroplastics litter and microplastic fragments due to its abundances, tiny sizes, and cellular accessibility. The female reproductive toxicity of NPs has been widely documented for aquatic animals, but their effects and underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood in mammals. This study aimed to explore the effects of NPs on female reproduction using human ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) and female mice. The accumulation of polystyrene NPs (PS-NPs) in human granulosa-like tumor cells (KGN cells) and the ovaries of female Balb/c mice were evaluated by exposure to fluorescent PS-NPs. Proliferation and apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and Hippo signaling pathway-related factors were analyzed in KGN cells. In addition, fertility rate, litter size, ovarian weight and microstructure, follicle development, serum level of anti-Mullerian hormone, and apoptosis in ovaries were examined in female mice. Here, the PS-NPs can penetrate the KGN cells and accumulate in the ovaries. In vitro, 100 μg/ml PS-NPs inhibited proliferation, induced apoptosis, accumulated ROS, activated three key regulators of the Hippo signaling pathway (MST1, LATS1, and YAP1), and downregulated the mRNA levels of CTGF and Cyr61 in KGN cells. Furthermore, salidroside, an antioxidative compound extracted from Rhodiola rosea, alleviated the damage of PS-NPs to KGN and inhibited the activation of the Hippo signal pathway. In vivo, exposure to 1 mg/day PS-NPs resulted in decreased fertility, abnormal ovarian function, and increased ovarian apoptosis in female mice. Overall, our data suggest that PS-NPs cause granulosa cell apoptosis and affect ovarian functions, leading to reduced fertility in female mice, by inducing oxidative stress and dysregulating the Hippo pathway.

Abstract
SCOPE Tea is a popular beverage worldwide and has many health functions. Protocatechuic acid (PCA) is an important bioactive component of tea and has benefit to health. In some cases, oocytes after ovulation may miss the optimal fertilization time and enter a postovulatory ageing process. Therefore, to investigate the role of PCA in delaying oocyte ageing is aimed. METHODS AND RESULTS Metaphase II (MII) oocytes aged in vitro are randomly divided into three groups: control, aged, and aged + PCA. PCA treatment (30 µM) reduces the fragmentation rate and the incidence of abnormal spindle morphology and chromosome misalignment of oocytes aged 24 h in vitro. The mitochondrial dysfunction of aged oocytes, such as decreased mitochondrial membrane potential and excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen (ROS), is also alleviated by PCA. PCA also delays apoptosis of aged oocytes, and improves the sperm binding capacity. Otherwise, aged oocytes treated with PCA have a higher fertilization rate and blastocyst rate compared with untreated aged oocytes in vitro. CONCLUSION PCA is an important bioactive ingredient of tea that improves aged oocyte quality, suggesting that PCA is available to improve the quality of aged oocytes in vitro.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the long-term outcomes for Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKH) patients undergoing vaginoplasty using acellular porcine small intestinal submucosa grafts (SIS). DESIGN A case series. POPULATION Seventy-eight MRKH syndrome patients and a post-SIS patient who delivered a baby following the world's first robot-assisted uterus transplantation. METHODS Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome patients were grouped based on the postoperative time and the diagnosis-surgery interval. Outcomes of sexual function and psychological status were assessed using the female sexual function index (FSFI), self-rating scale of body image (SSBI) and self-acceptance questionnaire (SAQ). Anatomical outcomes were measured by clinicians. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The primary outcome was restoration of sexual function, defined by an FSFI score in the 'good' range. Anatomical and psychological outcomes were also analysed. RESULTS Sexual function was restored in 42.3% (33/78) of patients and the total FSFI score was 23.44 ± 4.43. Three factors (body defect, recognition of physical appearance and willingness to change physical appearance scores) in the SSBI and two in the SAQ decreased as the postoperative time increased. Based on the interval between diagnosis and surgery, the total SSBI score was lower in the short-interval group than in the long-interval group (7.25 ± 5.55 versus 12.04 ± 10.21, p = 0.038). CONCLUSIONS Nearly half of MRKH patients in our study had good long-term sexual function after SIS vaginoplasty. Sexual function and psychological status improved as postoperative time increased. In addition, reducing the diagnosis to surgery interval was associated with improved psychological function.

Abstract
Background It is well established that female fertility declines with age, primarily because of loss of ovarian function. However, few studies have clarified the relationship between increasing age and endometrial receptivity. Here, we aimed to study the impact of age on endometrial receptivity, meanwhile, we examined the expression of endometrial mesenchymal stem cell (eMSC) surface markers (CD146 and PDGF-Rβ), essential for endometrial development and re-growth, in different age groups. Methods Participants were enrolled in this study between October 2020 and July 2021. All 31 patients were divided into three age groups; early (30-39 years old, n=10), intermediate (40-49 years old, n=12) and advanced (≥50 years old, n=9). We assessed localization and expression of CD146 and PDGF-Rβ by immunofluorescence and further analyzed selected endometrial receptivity markers (Homeobox A10 HOXA10, leukemia inhibitory factor LIF and osteopontin) and steroid hormone receptors by immunohistochemistry. Results There were no significant differences in expression of HOXA10 and OPN (p>0.05) among the three groups. However, we found a significant difference in LIF expression between the early and advanced age groups, with higher expression noted in the latter group (p=0.02). Similarly, estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) expression were significantly increased (p=0.01 and p=0.01, respectively) in the advanced age group compared with the early age group. There were no significant difference in CD146 and PDGF-Rβ expression among the three groups (p>0.05). Conclusion These results suggest that the age of the patient does not influence their endometrial receptivity. So, this study serves to increase our understanding of the impact of age and eMSCs on endometrial receptivity and expands the etiology of age-related infertility.

Abstract
Reproductive disorders and infertility have become more common recently among the general population. Toxic metals are known as endocrine disruptors and as they are widespread in nature they may be linked to reproductive problems. This study was conducted as a cross-sectional study and its aim was to examine the dose–response relationship between cadmium, arsenic, mercury, chromium and nickel and serum hormone levels of testosterone (women) and estradiol and progesterone (men) using the Benchmark dose approach (BMD). Blood samples were collected from 218 women and 217 men digested in a microwave, and the levels of the tested metals were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) or inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Dose–response analysis was performed in PROAST software (version 70.1). The model averaging method was used to calculate the Benchmark dose interval (BMDI). A dose–response relationship has been established between all metals and hormones. The narrowest BMDI was found for the As-testosterone and Hg-testosterone. Levels estimated to produce the extra risk of testosterone serum levels disturbances of 10% were lower than median levels measured in the general population. Moreover, this research suggests the possibility of use of the BMD approach in analyzing data pool generated from extensive human-biomonitoring studies.

Abstract
The relationship between endometriosis and infertility is still unknown, but it is possible that genetic polymorphisms influence these two variables. This study aims to identify, in the literature, which polymorphisms are related to infertility in women with endometriosis. A search was performed in databases using the descriptors: polymorphisms genetics and infertility and endometriosis. 386 articles were identified, and after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 33 case-control studies were included. Genes and their respective polymorphisms, which exhibited statistically significant values, were classified into three categories: related to metabolic/cellular processes, steroidogenesis and sex hormone receptors, inflammation and immune response. In summary, the results of these studies suggest that the polymorphisms rs882605 of MUC4 gene, rs16826658 of WNT4 gene, rs10953316 of MUC17 gene, rs10928050 of KAZN gene, rs1799889 of PAI-1 gene, (TA)n repeats of ESR1 gene, (CA)n repeats of ESR2 gene, rs605059 of HSD17B1 gene, rs743572 of CYP17A1 gene, insLQ of LHR gene, p.Ile49Ser of AMH gene, rs12700667 of NPVF/NFE2L3 gene, G1502A of LHβ gene, G + 1730A of ERβ gene, rs7528684 of FCRL3 gene, rs3761549 of FOXP3 gene and rs28362491 of NFKβ1 gene are implicated in the etiology of infertility in women with endometriosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Exposure to phenols and phthalates has been separately linked to increased risks of infertility in women of reproductive age. However, the combined effect of phenols and phthalates exposure on infertility has not been explored. METHODS Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) were used. A total of 857 women of reproductive age (18-45 years) with available information on urinary phenol and phthalate metabolites, reproductive questionnaires, and covariates were included in the present study. The definition of infertility was based on self-reports. Multivariable logistic regression, principal component analysis (PCA), and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) with stratified variable selection were applied to determine what associations were found between combined exposure to these mixtures and risk of infertility among women of reproductive age. RESULTS After adjusting for potential confounders, bisphenol A (BPA), mono(3-carboxypropyl) phthalate (MCPP) and four di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) metabolites [mono(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (MEHP), mono(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (MEHHP), mono(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate (MEOHP) and mono(2-ethyl-5-carboxypentyl) phthalate (MECPP)] were positively associated with infertility. PCA revealed that the DEHP-BPA factor's PC score was significantly positively related to the likelihood of infertility [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.45; 1.08, 1.82]. The DEHP-BPA component consistently had the highest group posterior inclusion probability (PIP) in BKMR models. The BKMR model also found that MEOHP, MEHHP, and BPA were positively associated with infertility risk when the remaining combination concentrations were held at their median values. In addition, we observed that the probability of infertility increased dramatically as the quantiles of total mixture concentration increased. CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that a combination of phenol and phthalate metabolites is linked to infertility among reproductive-age women. BPA and DEHP, in particular, are significantly related to the risk of infertility.

Abstract
Due to its high prevalence, infertility has become a prominent public health issue, posing a significant challenge to modern reproductive medicine. Some clinical conditions that lead to female infertility include polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and premature ovarian failure (POF). Follicular fluid (FF) is the biological matrix that has the most contact with the oocyte and can, therefore, be used as a predictor of its quality. Volatilomics has emerged as a non-invasive, straightforward, affordable, and simple method for characterizing various diseases and determining the effectiveness of their current therapies. In order to find potential biomarkers of infertility, this study set out to determine the volatomic pattern of the follicular fluid from patients with PCOS, endometriosis, and POF. The chromatographic data integration was performed through solid-phase microextraction (SPME), followed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The findings pointed to specific metabolite patterns as potential biomarkers for the studied diseases. These open the door for further research into the relevant metabolomic pathways to enhance infertility knowledge and diagnostic tools. An extended investigation may, however, produce a new mechanistic understanding of the pathophysiology of the diseases.

Abstract
Methods Forty subjects who underwent routine two-dimensional (2D) vaginal ultrasound, three-dimensional HyCoSy (3D-HyCoSy), and four-dimensional HyCoSy (4D-HyCoSy) examinations from January 2021 to July 2022 at the ultrasound department of Pukou Branch of Jiangsu Province Hospital were enrolled to this study. Fallopian tubal recanalization by hydrotubation (FTRH) was used as the gold standard to compare the efficacy of 2D vaginal ultrasound, 3D-HyCoSy, and 4D-HyCoSy in assessing the subjects for the presence of polyps, myomas, and other occupants in the uterine cavity or uterine adhesions. Results A total of 18 cases of uterine cavity lesions, 11 of pelvic lesions, and 11 of ovarian lesions were identified by FTRH, while 80 fallopian tubes were found in 40 patients and 71 tubal obstructions were detected by FTRH. Vaginal ultrasound assessment of uterine cavity, pelvis, ovarian lesions, and tubal obstruction was moderately consistent with FTRH (Kappa = 0.616, 0.673, 0.654, and 0.640), 3D-HyCoSy was in good agreement with FTRH (Kappa = 0.812, 0.910, 0.906, and 0.894), and 4D-HyCoSy was in good agreement with FTRH (Kappa = 0.914, 0.903, 1.000, and 0.942), with 4D-HyCoSy being in good agreement with FTRH had the highest agreement. Conclusion 4D-HyCoSy can be used as an effective tool for clinical diagnosis of female tubal obstruction infertility and provide a reference basis for the design of subsequent clinical treatment plans.

Abstract
Recently, with the development of the social economy, the incidence of infertility has increased year by year. With its complex etiology and diversified syndromes, infertility has become one of the most important diseases that plague the physical and mental health of women of childbearing age worldwide. Endometrial factors as an important part affecting female reproductive capacity, due to which induced repeated abortion and multiple uterine cavity operations occur, can destruct endometrium, failing to provide a normal implantation environment for zygote, thus resulting in infertility. Many patients failed to achieve expected results after receiving conventional treatments such as hormone therapy, assisted reproductive technology (ART), granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) therapy, and cell therapy, then turn to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies for help. Aiming at clarifying the effectiveness and mechanisms of CAM therapy in the treatment of infertility caused by endometrial factors, our paper systematically searched and studied present related literature on the PubMed, CNKI, and other databases, focusing on the aspects of clinical application and mechanism explorations and highlighting the therapeutic effects of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM), acupuncture, and moxibustion on such diseases. Moreover, this paper also introduces the CAM treatments of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) retention enema, neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), photobiomodulation therapy, dietary intervention, and other measures for infertility caused by endometrial factors, in order to provide a reference for subsequent basic research and clinical work.

Abstract
The role of glucocorticoids in oogenesis remains to be elucidated. cyp11c1 encodes the key enzyme involved in the synthesis of cortisol, the major glucocorticoid in teleosts. In our previous study, we mutated cyp11c1 in tilapia and analyzed its role in spermatogenesis. In this study, we analyzed its role in oogenesis. cyp11c1+/- XX tilapia showed normal ovarian morphology but poor egg quality, as indicated by the mortality of embryos before 3 d post fertilization, which could be partially rescued by the supplement of exogenous cortisol to the mother fish. Transcriptome analyses revealed reduced expression of maternal genes in the eggs of the cyp11c1+/- XX fish. The cyp11c1-/- females showed impaired vitellogenesis and arrested oogenesis due to significantly decreased serum cortisol. Further analyses revealed decreased serum E2 level and expression of amh, an important regulator of follicular cell development, and increased follicular cell apoptosis in the ovaries of cyp11c1-/- XX fish, which could be rescued by supplement of either exogenous cortisol or E2. Luciferase assays revealed a direct regulation of cortisol and E2 on amh transcription via GRs or ESRs. Taken together, our results demonstrate that cortisol safeguards oogenesis by promoting follicular cell survival probably via Amh signaling.

Abstract
A higher incidence of female infertility has been reported with an unexpectedly early appearance in recent years. The female infertility treatment and application of assisted reproductive technology have recently gained immense interest from scientists. Many studies have discussed the beneficial effects of acupuncture on female infertility. With advancements in science and medical technology, acupuncture-related research has increased in investigating its effectiveness in treating female infertility. This review focuses on a compilation of research in recent years on acupuncture for female infertility treatment and the exploration of the underlying mechanism. For this purpose, literature was searched using various search engines like PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The search was refined by only focusing on recent studies on acupuncture effectiveness and mechanism in female infertility and evaluating pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common metabolic and endocrine disease affecting women of reproductive age. Due to its complex etiology, there is no effective cure for PCOS currently. Brown adipose tissue (BAT) activity is significantly decreased in PCOS patients and BAT activation has beneficial effects on PCOS animal models. Here, we investigated the therapeutic effect of ginsenoside compound K (CK) on an animal model of PCOS and its mechanism of BAT activation EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH: Primary brown adipocyte, Db/Db mice and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)-induced PCOS rats were used. The core body temperature, oxygen consumption, energy metabolism related gene and protein expression were assessed to identify the function of CK on energy metabolism. Estrous cycle, serum sex hormone, ovarian steroidogenic enzyme gene expression and ovarian morphology were evaluated following CK treatment. KEY RESULTS Our results indicated that CK treatment could significantly protect against body weight gain in Db/Db mice via BAT activation. Furthermore, we found that CK treatment could normalize hyperandrogenism, estrous cyclicity, normalize steroidogenic enzyme expression and decrease the number of cystic follicles in PCOS rats. Interestingly, as a potential endocrine intermediate, C-X-C motif chemokine ligand-14 protein (CXCL14) was significantly upregulated following CK administration. In addition, exogenous CXC14 supplementation was found to reverse DHEA-induced PCOS in a phenotypically similar manner to CK treatment. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS In summary, CK treatment significantly activates BAT, increases CXCL14 expression and ameliorates PCOS. These findings suggest that CK might be a potential drug candidate for PCOS treatment.

Abstract
Endometriosis is a benign uterine disorder characterized by menstrual pain and infertility, deeply affecting women's health. It is a chronic disease and requires a long term management. Hormonal drugs are currently the most used for the medical treatment and are based on the endocrine pathogenetic aspects. Estrogen-dependency and progesterone-resistance are the key events which cause the ectopic implantation of endometrial cells, decreasing apoptosis and increasing oxidative stress, inflammation and neuroangiogenesis. Endometriotic cells express AMH, TGF-related growth factors (inhibin, activin, follistatin) CRH and stress related peptides. Endocrine and inflammatory changes explain pain and infertility, and the systemic comorbidities described in these patients, such as autoimmune (thyroiditis, arthritis, allergies), inflammatory (gastrointestinal/urinary diseases) and mental health disorders.The hormonal treatment of endometriosis aims to block of menstruation through an inhibition of hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis or by causing a pseudodecidualization with consequent amenorrhea, impairing the progression of endometriotic implants. GnRH agonists and antagonists are effective on endometriosis by acting on pituitary-ovarian function. Progestins are mostly used for long term treatments (dienogest, NETA, MPA) and act on multiple sites of action. Combined oral contraceptives are also used for reducing endometriosis symptoms by inhibiting ovarian function. Clinical trials are currently going on selective progesterone receptor modulators, selective estrogen receptor modulators and aromatase inhibitors. Nowadays, all these hormonal drugs are considered the first-line treatment for women with endometriosis to improve their symptoms, to postpone surgery or to prevent post-surgical disease recurrence. This review aims to provide a comprehensive state-of-the-art on the current and future hormonal treatments for endometriosis, exploring the endocrine background of the disease.

Abstract
Increasing evidence on the significance of nutrition in reproduction is emerging from both animal and human studies, suggesting a mutual association between nutrition and female fertility. Different “fertile” dietary patterns have been studied; however, in humans, conflicting results or weak correlations are often reported, probably because of the individual variations in genome, proteome, metabolome, and microbiome and the extent of exposure to different environmental conditions. In this scenario, “precision nutrition”, namely personalized dietary patterns based on deep phenotyping and on metabolomics, microbiome, and nutrigenetics of each case, might be more efficient for infertile patients than applying a generic nutritional approach. In this review, we report on new insights into the nutritional management of infertile patients, discussing the main nutrigenetic, nutrigenomic, and microbiomic aspects that should be investigated to achieve effective personalized nutritional interventions. Specifically, we will focus on the management of low-grade chronic inflammation, which is associated with several infertility-related diseases.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The aim of our study was to carry out a national survey of French practitioners to evaluate (i) their diagnostic criteria for making a diagnosis of unexplained infertility (UEI) and (ii) their management strategy when facing UEI. MATERIALS AND METHOD An online questionnaire comprising ten multiple-choice questions was sent by mail to French reproductive practitioners in 80 fertility centres. RESULTS The response rate was 59.6% (195/327). Post coital testing was always or often prescribed by 14.8% of respondents (n=36). Chlamydia trachomatis testing was never prescribed by 31.7% (n=59) of them, 30.2% prescribed a pelvic MRI in cases of UEI and 18.4% (n=33) always or often performed laparoscopy. For 87.6% (n=169), advanced maternal age was always or often an indication of first-line IVF, with an average threshold of 37.4 years. For 68.6% (n=129), diminished AMH was an indication for first-line IVF, with an average AMH threshold of 1.2 ng/ml. With respect to the management of UEI, we did not observe a consensus between the strategies of 2 to 6 intrauterine insemination cycles before IVF or IVF as the first-line treatment. CONCLUSION There is no consensus in France on what tests should or should not be carried out to conclude UEI, and there is also no consensus on the management of UEI. UEI is one of the top 10 priorities for future infertility research. The diagnostic criteria must be standardized to enable the comparison of studies on this topic as well as to improve the translation of research into clinical practice.

Abstract
Early embryonic arrest and fragmentation (EEAF) is a common phenotype observed in in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles. The phenotype causes female infertility and recurrent failed IVF/ICSI attempts. However, the molecular mechanisms behind EEAF remain largely unknown. In this issue of EMBO Molecular Medicine, Zhang et al (2021) present the novel causative gene MOS in patients with the EEAF phenotype. The relationship between MOS variants and human EEAF is comprehensively established through a series of in vitro and in vivo experiments, thus clarifying the role of MOS during human oocyte maturation and early embryo development. These findings suggest that MOS is a new diagnostic marker of EEAF and is a potential therapeutic target for treatment of EEAF patients.

Maternal body mass index associates with blastocyst euploidy and live birth rates: the tip of an iceberg? Reprod Biomed Online 2021; 43:645-654. Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION Does maternal preconceptional body mass index (BMI) associate with mean blastocyst euploidy rate (m-ER) per patient and live birth rate (LBR) after vitrified-warmed euploid single embryo transfer (SET)? DESIGN Observational study conducted between April 2013 and March 2020 at a private IVF clinic, involving 1811 Caucasian women undergoing trophectoderm biopsy and comprehensive chromosome testing. The outcomes of 1125 first vitrified-warmed euploid SET were also analysed. Patients were clustered as normal weight (BMI 18.5-25; n = 1392 performing 859 SET), underweight (BMI <18.5; n = 160 performing 112 SET) and overweight (BMI >25; n = 259 performing 154 SET). m-ER per patient was the primary outcome. The secondary outcomes were all clinical outcomes per euploid SET. All data were adjusted for confounders through regression analyses. RESULTS The m-ER per patient decreases as maternal BMI increases from 17 up to 22-23 before reaching a plateau. A linear regression adjusted for maternal age confirmed this moderate association (unstandardized coefficient B: -0.6%, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -1.1 to -0.1%, P = 0.02). All clinical outcomes were similar between normal weight and underweight women. Overweight women, instead, showed higher miscarriage rate per clinical pregnancy (n = 20/75, 26.7% versus n = 67/461, 14.5%; odds ratio [OR] adjusted for blastocyst quality and day of full blastulation: 2.0, 95% CI: 1.1-3.6, P = 0.01) and lower LBR per SET (n = 55/154, 35.7% versus n = 388/859, 45.2%; OR adjusted for blastocyst quality and day of full blastulation: 0.67, 95% CI: 0.46-0.96, P = 0.03). CONCLUSION These data indicate a need for future research on more sensitive metrics to assess body fat mass and distribution, as well as on the mechanisms leading to lipotoxicity, thereby impairing embryo competence and/or endometrial receptivity. Overweight women should be informed of their higher risk for miscarriage and, whenever possible, encouraged to lose weight, especially before transfer.
