Abstract
Mycotoxins, which are secondary metabolites produced by toxicogenic fungi, are natural food toxins that cause acute and chronic adverse reactions in humans and animals. The genus Fusarium is one of three major genera of mycotoxin-producing fungi. Trichothecenes, fumonisins, and zearalenone are the major Fusarium mycotoxins that occur worldwide. Fusarium mycotoxins have the potential to infiltrate the human food chain via contamination during crop production and food processing, eventually threatening human health. The occurrence and development of Fusarium mycotoxin contamination will change with climate change, especially with variations in temperature, precipitation, and carbon dioxide concentration. To address these challenges, researchers have built a series of effective models to forecast the occurrence of Fusarium mycotoxins and provide guidance for crop production. Fusarium mycotoxins frequently exist in food products at extremely low levels, thus necessitating the development of highly sensitive and reliable detection techniques. Numerous successful detection methods have been developed to meet the requirements of various situations, and an increasing number of methods are moving toward high-throughput features. Although Fusarium mycotoxins cannot be completely eliminated, numerous agronomic, chemical, physical, and biological methods can lower Fusarium mycotoxin contamination to safe levels during the preharvest and postharvest stages. These theoretical innovations and technological advances have the potential to facilitate the development of comprehensive strategies for effectively managing Fusarium mycotoxin contamination in the future.

Abstract
The accumulation of the deoxynivalenol (DON) in the human body poses a significant health risk that is often overlooked, and we urgently need an ultra-sensitive rapid detection platform. Due to the porosity of NH2-MIL-101@MoS2, an increased loading of toluidine blue (TB) serves to create a signal reference. Cobalt@carbon (CoC) derived from metal organic frameworks was combined with NH2-MIL-101(NH2-MIL-101@CoC) to form an enzyme-free Nanoprobe (Apt-pro) with significant catalytic properties. The ratio (IBQ /ITB) was changed by varying the electrochemical signal of benzoquinone (BQ) (IBQ) and the amount of TB deposition (ITB). This aptasensor was successfully applied to detect DON in malt and peach seed, which exhibited a great linear range from 1 fg/mL to 10 ng/mL and low detection limit of 0.31 fg/mL for DON.

Abstract
In this work, a novel ternary nanocomposite of PEI/RuSi-MWCNTs was designed and synthesized for the first time, which an ultrasensitive and self-enhanced electrochemiluminescent (ECL) aptasensor was developed for the detection of profenofos residues in vegetables. The self-enhanced complex PEI-Ru (II) enhanced the emission and stability of ECL, and the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) acted as an excellent carrier and signal amplification. The PEI/RuSi-MWCNTs were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The incorporation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) improved the performance of the sensor and provided a platform for the immobilization of the aptamer. The results of the experiment showed that the presence of profenofos significantly suppressed the electrochemiluminescence intensity of the sensor. The detection sensitivity of the aptamer sensor was in the range of 1 × 10-2 to 1 × 103 ng/mL. Under optimal conditions, the limit of detection (LOD) of the sensor for profenofos was 1.482 × 10-3 ng/mL. The sensor had excellent stability, reproducibility and specificity. The recoveries of the sensor ranged from 92.29 % to 106.47 % in real sample tests.

Abstract
Mycotoxins are toxic metabolites produced by fungi in the process of infecting agricultural products, posing serious threat to the health of human and animals. Thus, sensitive and reliable analytical techniques for mycotoxin detection are needed. Biosensors equipped with antibodies or aptamers as recognition elements and core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) for the pre-treatment and detection of mycotoxins have been extensively studied. By comparison with monocomponent NPs, core-shell nanostructures exhibit unique optical, electric, magnetic, plasmonic, and catalytic properties due to the combination of functionalities and synergistic effects, resulting in significant improvement of sensing capacities in various platforms, such as surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, fluorescence, lateral flow immunoassay and electrochemical sensors. This review focused on the development of core-shell NPs based biosensors for the sensitive and accurate detection of mycotoxins in food samples. Recent developments were categorised and summarised, along with detailed discussion of advantages and shortcomings. The future potential of utilising core-shell NPs in food safety testing was also highlighted.

Abstract
Food-borne mycotoxins is one of the food safety concerns in the world. At present, nanosensors are widely used in the detection and analysis of mycotoxins due to their high specificity and sensitivity. In nanosensor-based mycotoxindetections, the sensitivity is mainly improved from two aspects. On the one hand, based on the principle of immune response, antigens and antibodies can be modified and developed. Such as single-domain heavy chain antibodies, aptamers, peptides, and antigen mimotopes. On the other hand, improvements and innovations have been made on signal amplification materials, including gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), quantum dots, and graphene, etc. Among them, gold nanoparticles can not only be used as a signal amplification material, but also can be used as carriers for identification elements, which can be used for signal amplification in detection. In this article, we systematically summarized the emerging strategies for enhancing the detection sensitivity of traditional gold nanoparticles-based nanosensors, in terms of recognition elements and signal amplification. Representative examples were selected to illustrate the potential mechanism of each strategy in enhancing the colorimetric signal intensity of AuNP and its potential application in biosensing. Finally, our review suggested the challenges and future prospects of gold particles in detection of mycotoxins.

Abstract
Zearalenone (ZEN), a resorcinolactone toxin, which has been a potential threat to agricultural production and human health. In this study, a sample and rapid fluorescence sensor was established for the detection of ZEN, which is based on the fluorescence properties of N-doped carbon dots-aptamer (NCDs-apt) and the quenching ability of oxidized single-walled carbon nanohorns (oxSWCNHs). NCDs synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method were connected with ZEN-aptamer (ZEN-apt), and oxSWCNHs were added to quench the fluorescence of NCDs-apt. Therefore, an oxSWCNHs/NCDs-apt aptasensor based on fluorescence "on-off" for the determination of ZEN in food was formed. Under optimum conditions, the limit of detection (LOD) of this method was 18 ng/mL and the linear range was 20 ~ 100 ng/mL. The possible interfering substances were investigated, and the results showed excellent selectivity. The recoveries were in the range of 99.5%~114.3%, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) were not more than 6.5%, which demonstrated that this aptasensor was successfully applied for the detection of ZEN in food samples with satisfactory result.

Abstract
Mycotoxin contamination in food products can easily cause serious health hazards and economic losses to human beings. How to accurately detect and effectively control mycotoxin contamination has become a global concern. Mycotoxins conventional detection techniques e.g; ELISA, HPLC, have limitations like, low sensitivity, high cost and time-consuming. Aptamer-based biosensing technology has the advantages of high sensitivity, high specificity, wide linear range, high feasibility, and non-destructiveness, which overcomes the shortcomings of conventional analysis techniques. This review summarizes the sequences of mycotoxin aptamers that have been reported so far. Based on the application of four classic POST-SELEX strategies, it also discusses the bioinformatics-assisted POST-SELEX technology in obtaining optimal aptamers. Furthermore, trends in the study of aptamer sequences and their binding mechanisms to targets is also discussed. The latest examples of aptasensor detection of mycotoxins are classified and summarized in detail. Newly developed dual-signal detection, dual-channel detection, multi-target detection and some types of single-signal detection combined with unique strategies or novel materials in recent years are focused. Finally, the challenges and prospects of aptamer sensors in the detection of mycotoxins are discussed. The development of aptamer biosensing technology provides a new approach with multiple advantages for on-site detection of mycotoxins. Although aptamer biosensing shows great development potential, still some challenges and difficulties are there in practical applications. Future research need high focus on the practical applications of aptasensors and the development of convenient and highly automated aptamers. This may lead to the transition of aptamer biosensing technology from laboratory to commercialization.

Abstract
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer with substantial morbidity and mortality. Herein, a new signal-on electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor based on multiple amplification strategies is constructed for ultrasensitive detection of cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 (CYFRA21-1) biomarker related to NSCLC. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) functionalized MXene is decorated with NiMn layer double hydroxide (NiMn LDH) to form MXene-PEI-NiMn LDH composite. Specially, the La-MOF@ZIF-67 bimetallic organic framework (named as LZBM) and MXene-PEI-NiMn LDH both served as coreaction accelerators to improve the ECL emission of the luminol-H2 O2 system. To be specific, Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) coated MXene-PEI-NiMn LDH is applied to immobilize primary CYFRA21-1 antibody (Ab1 ), while AuNPs decorated LZBM was used for the loading of luminol and secondary CYFRA21-1 antibody (Ab2 ) to form tracer label. Therefore, the ECL signal of the sandwich-type immunosensor is significantly enhanced due to the high loading capability for luminol and the synergistic catalytic ability for the decomposition of H2 O2 into reactive oxygen species (ROS). Under the optimal experimental conditions, the ECL immunosensor exhibited good analytical performances for CYFRA21-1 detection with a wide linear range (100 fg mL-1 -100 ng mL-1 ) and a low limit of detection (85.20 fg mL-1 ), providing a promising method for early diagnosis of NSCLC.

Abstract
Pesticide and mycotoxin residues in food are concerning as they are harmful to human health. Traditional methods, such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for such detection lack sensitivity and operation convenience. Efficient, accurate detection approaches are needed. With the recent development of nanotechnology, electrochemical biosensors based on nanomaterials have shown solid ability to detect trace pesticides and mycotoxins quickly and accurately. In this review, English articles about electrochemical biosensors in the past 11 years (2011-2022) were collected from PubMed database, and various nanomaterials are discussed, including noble metal nanomaterials, magnetic metal nanoparticles, metal-organic frameworks, carbon nanotubes, as well as graphene and its derivatives. Three main roles of such nanomaterials in the detection process are summarized, including biomolecule immobilization, signal generation, and signal amplification. The detection targets involve two types of pesticides (organophosphorus and carbamate) and six types of mycotoxins (aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, fumonisin, ochratoxin A, and patulin). Although significant achievements have been made in the evolution of electrochemical nano-biosensors, many challenges remain to be overcome.

Abstract
Herein, an electrochemical aptasensor combining Nb.BbvCI-triggered bipedal DNA walking strategy was constructed for ultrasensitive assay of zearalenone (ZEN). The aptasensor used Ce3NbO7/CeO2 @Au hollow nanospheres as electrode modification material and PdNi@MnO2/MB as the signal label. Importantly, the Ce3NbO7/CeO2 synthesized by hydrothermal method were combined with Au nanoparticles and applied to the electrode surface. The as-prepared Ce3NbO7/CeO2 @Au possessed a large surface area, excellent electrical conductivity, stability and more binding sites. PdNi@MnO2 with high specific surface area and porosity combined with molecule methylene blue (MB) was introduced into electrodes as the signal label. The proposed aptasensor utilized the advantages of specific recognition of aptamers and target molecules to release bipedal DNA walker (w-DNA), and then the w-DNA was triggered by Nb.BbvCI and entered the cycle to release more signal probes. The feasibility of this strategy was recorded by the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method. Under the optimized conditions, the electrochemical aptasensor exhibited a wide linear dynamic range from 1 × 10-4 to 1 × 103 ng mL-1 with a low detection limit of 4.57 × 10-6 ng mL-1. Moreover, the aptasensor had high selectivity, good stability, excellent repeatability and provided an effective method for the trace detection of ZEN in real samples.

Abstract
An electrochemical aptasensing strategy was developed with a novel bioplatform based on a multivariate titanium metal-organic framework, i.e. MTV polyMOF(Ti), to detect zearalenone (ZEN). MTV polyMOF(Ti) was prepared by using mixed linkers of polyether polymer (pbdc-xa or L8, pbdc = poly(1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) and 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2bdc or L0) as well as tetrabutyl titanate as nodes (MTV polyMOF(Ti)-L8,0). Compared with Ti-MOFs synthesized by using the single ligand of L8 or L0, MTV polyMOF(Ti)-L8,0 shows more porous structure assembled with multilayered nanosheets. In light of the improved electrochemical activity and strong bioaffinity to the aptamer, the aptasensor based on MTV polyMOF(Ti)-L8,0 shows excellent performance for detecting ZEN with the ultralow detection limit at fg mL-1 level in the linear range of 10 fg mL-1 to 10 ng mL-1, along with good selectivity, reproducibility, stability, regenerability, and applicability.

Abstract
Mycotoxin is toxic secondary metabolite formed by certain filamentous fungi. This toxic compound can enter the food chain through contamination of food (e.g., by colonization of toxigenic fungi on food). In light of the growing concerns on the health hazards posed by mycotoxins, it is desirable to develop reliable analytical tools for their detection in food products in both sensitive and efficient manner. For this purpose, the potential utility of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) has been explored due to their meritful properties (e.g., large number of tailor-made binding sites, sensitive template molecules, high recognition specificity, and structure predictability). This review addresses the recent advances in the application of MIPs toward the sensing of various mycotoxins (e.g., aflatoxins and patulin) along with their fabrication strategies. Then, performance evaluation is made for various types of MIP- and non-MIP-based sensing platforms built for the listed target mycotoxins in terms of quality assurance such as limit of detection (LOD). Further, the present challenges in the MIP-based sensing application of mycotoxins are discussed along with the future outlook in this research field.

Abstract
Zearalenone (ZEN) is a common mycotoxin pollutant found in agricultural products. Aptamers are attractive recognition biomolecules for the development of mycotoxin biosensors. Even though numerous aptasensors have been reported for the detection of ZEN in recent years, many of them suffer from problems including low sensitivity, low specificity, tedious experimental steps, high-cost, and difficulty of automation. We report here the first evanescent wave optical-fiber aptasensor for the detection of ZEN with unprecedented sensitivity, high specificity, low cost, and easy of automation. In our aptasensor, a 40-nt ZEN-specific aptamer (8Z31) is covalently immobilized on the fiber. The 17-nt fluorophore Cy5.5-labeled complementary DNA strand and ZEN competitively bind with the aptamer immobilized on the fiber, enabling the signal-off fluorescent detection of ZEN. The coating of Tween 80 enhanced both the sensitivity and the reproducibility of the aptasensor. The sensor was able to detect ZEN spiked-in the corn flour extract with a semilog linear detection range of 10 pM-10 nM and a limit of detection (LOD, S/N = 3) of 18.4 ± 4.0 pM (equivalent to 29.3 ± 6.4 ng/kg). The LOD is more than 1000-fold lower than the maximum ZEN residue limits set by China (60 μg/kg) and EU (20 μg/kg). The sensor also has extremely high specificity and showed negligible cross-reactivity to other common mycotoxins. In addition, the sensor was able to be regenerated for 28 times, further decreasing its cost. Our sensor holds great potential for practical applications according to its multiple compelling features.

Abstract
A novel sandwich electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor was developed for highly sensitive detection of kanamycin using luminol-functionalized aptamer as a signal probe. The aptasensor used polyethyleneimine (PAMAM), molybdenum disulfide, and multi-walled carbon nanotubes as the substrate, which provided enough binding sites for aptamer1 (the aptamer which modified NH2) coupling. We found that kanamycin could be detected using the aptamer1 containing the same base sequence as aptamer2 (the aptamer which modified SH) on the electrode self-assembly. In addition, PAMAM nanocomposites can be used to effectively improve the ECL intensity by loading a high volume of luminol molecules and silver nanoparticles. In the presence of kanamycin, the sandwiched aptasensor was formed between aptamer1 and the probe of aptamer2 connecting silver nanoparticles, luminol, and PAMAM, resulting in a proportional increase of ECL intensity. Since the significantly enhanced loading of luminol by PAMAM accelerated the electron transfer, the sensitive aptasensor exhibited a wide linear range of detection from 1 × 10-3 to 1 × 103 ng/mL and a low detection limit of 0.21 pg/mL (S/N) for kanamycin. The fabricated aptasensor was successfully applied in quantitative analysis of kanamycin in milk samples.

Abstract
A method using isotope dilution-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (ID-LC/MS/MS) was developed for the accurate determination of zearalenone (ZEN) and its five major metabolites in corn. 13C- or 2H-labeled analogues of the target mycotoxins were used as internal standards. As the immunoaffinity columns used demonstrated selectivity to a specific chiral isomer of a racemic mixture of zearalanone-d6, a clean-up cartridge without stereoselectivity (Mycosep 226 column) was selected for the same recovery of the analyte and its internal standard with adequate elimination of matrix interferences. The method demonstrated sufficient selectivity, sensitivity, accuracy and precision over a concentration range of 20-400 µg/kg. The limit of detections and limit of quantifications were 0.14-0.33 µg/kg and 0.45-1.11 µg/kg, respectively. The accuracy values were 96.7%-103.6%, with intra and inter-day precisions of less than 3% and 4%, respectively. The expanded measurement uncertainty was less than 7% (with a 95% confidence level).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Zearalenone is a well-known estrogenic mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species, a serious threat to the agricultural and food industries worldwide. Zearalenone, with its known metabolites, are biomarkers of exposure to certain fungi, primarily through food. It has considerable toxic effects on biological systems due to its carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, renal toxicity, teratogenicity, and immunotoxicity. INTRODUCTION This study aims to design a simple, quick, precise, and cost-effective method on a biosensor platform to evaluate the low levels of this toxin in foodstuffs and agricultural products. METHODS An aptamer-based electrochemical biosensor was introduced that utilizes screen-printed gold electrodes instead of conventional electrodes. The electrode position process was employed to develop a gold nanoparticle-modified surface to enhance the electroactive surface area. Thiolated aptamers were immobilized on the surface of gold nanoparticles, and subsequently, the blocker and analyte were added to the modified surface. In the presence of a redox probe, electrochemical characterization of differential pulse voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to investigate the various stages of aptasensor fabrication. RESULTS The proposed aptasensor for zearalenone concentration had a wide linear dynamic range covering the 0.5 pg/mL to 100 ng/mL with a 0.14 pg/mL detection limit. Moreover, this aptasensor had high specificity so that a non-specific analyte cannot negatively affect the selectivity of the aptasensor. CONCLUSION Overall, due to its simple design, high sensitivity, and fast performance, this aptasensor showed a high potential for assessing zearalenone in real samples, providing a clear perspective for designing a portable and cost-effective device.

Abstract
As well known, the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy)32+) heavily relies on highly positive or negative triggered voltage, prejudicing the detection toward the bio-molecules. In this work, Ru(bpy)32+ could generate enhanced and stable ECL at a low potential of 0.05 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) on graphene-PtPd hybrid, attributing to its excellent electrocatalysis from the synergistic effect between Pt and Pd. The obtained low-potential-driven ECL could be quenched by MoS2 nanoflowers. Based on the quenching effect, a sandwich "signal-off" ECL immunosensor was fabricated to sensitively detect carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). A linear calibration curve from 1 fg mL-1 to 1 ng mL-1 was obtained along with a low detection limit of 0.54 fg mL-1 (S/N = 3) under optimal conditions. The sensor showed satisfactory specificity, stability, and reproducibility and was successfully applied to determine CEA in actual samples. The recoveries ranged from 98.80 to 100.23%, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was lower than 5%. Above all, this work explored new materials in low-potential-driven ECL system and provided a reliable sensing strategy for clinical applications.

Abstract
Carbon-based nanomaterials have become the subject of intensive interest because their intriguing physical and chemical properties are different from those of their bulk counterparts, leading to novel applications in smart sensors. Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites with different structures and toxic effects produced by fungi. Mycotoxins have low molecular weights and highly diverse molecular structures, which can induce a spectrum of biological effects in humans and animals even at low concentrations. A tremendous amount of biosensor platforms based on various carbon nanocomposites have been developed for the determination of mycotoxins. Therefore, the contents of this review are based on a balanced combination of our own studies and selected research studies performed by academic groups worldwide. We first address the vital preparation methods of biorecognition unit (antibodies, aptamers, molecularly imprinted polymers)-functionalized carbon-based nanomaterials for sensing mycotoxins. Then, we summarize various types of smart sensors for the detection of mycotoxins. We expect future research on smart sensors to show a significant impact on the detection of mycotoxins in food products.

Abstract
In this work, we design an immunosensor for zearalenone (ZEN) detection with PEI-rGO/Pt@Au NRs nanocomposite as the modification material. PEI-rGO/Pt@Au NRs nanocomposite have good stability, conductivity and a large specific surface area, so they are chosen as the substrate material for the modified electrode, which is beneficial in improving the detection performance of the sensor. When antibody binds to ZEN, the current signal decreases, and the response signal changes after ZEN incubation, recorded by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods. Under the optimised conditions, the electrochemical response of the constructed immunosensor shows a linear relation to a wide concentration range from 1 pg/mL to 1 × 106 pg/mL with a detection limit of 0.02 pg/mL. Additionally, the proposed electrochemical immunosensor has high selectivity, good stability and great potential for the trace detection of ZEN in real samples.

Abstract
Zearalenone is a fungal contaminant that is widely present in grains. Here, a novel molecularly imprinted membrane based on SOM-ZIF-8 was developed for the rapid and highly selective identification of zearalenone in grain samples. The molecularly imprinted membrane was prepared using polyvinylidene fluoride, cyclododecyl 2,4-dihydroxybenzoate as a template and SOM-ZIF-8 as a carrier. The factors influencing the extraction of zearalenone using this membrane, including the solution pH, extraction time, elution solvent, elution time, and elution volume, were studied in detail. The optimized conditions were 5 mL of sample solution at pH 6, extraction time of 45 min, 4 mL of acetonitrile:methanol = 9:1 as elution solvent, and elution time of 20 min. This method displayed a good linear range of 12-120 ng/g (R2 = 0.998) with the limits of detection and quantification of this method are 1.7 and 5.5 ng/g, respectively. In addition, the membrane was used to selectively identify zearalenone in grain samples with percent recoveries ranging from 87.9 to 101.0% and relative standard deviation of less than 6.6%. Overall, this study presents a simple and effective chromatographic pretreatment method for detecting zearalenone in food samples.

Determination of minimal sequence for zearalenone aptamer by computational docking and application on an indirect competitive electrochemical aptasensor. Anal Bioanal Chem 2021; 413:3861-3872. Abstract
Aptamers are short single-stranded oligonucleotides (either DNA or RNA) that can fold into well-defined three-dimensional (3D) spatial structures which enable them to capture their specific target by complementary shape interactions. Aptamers are selected from large random libraries through the SELEX process and only a small fraction of the sequence is involved in direct docking with the target. In this paper, we describe the possible truncation variants of zearalenone (ZEA) aptamer which might be an effective binding region for the target. The originally selected zearalenone (ZEA) aptamer was 80-mer in length and shown to bind the target with a high affinity (Kd = 41 ± 5 nM). Herein, computational docking simulation was performed with 15 truncated variants to determine the predicted binding energy and responsible binding site of the aptamer-analyte complex. The results revealed that 5 truncated variants had binding energy lower than - 7.0 kcal/mol. Circular dichroism analysis was performed on the shortlisted aptamer and the conformational change of aptamers was observed with the presence of an analyte. Aptamer Z3IN (29-mer) was chosen as the most enhanced affinity for its target with a dissociation constant of 11.77 ± 1.44 nM. The aptamer was further applied in the electrochemical aptasensor of ZEA based on an indirect competitive format. The results demonstrated that the truncated aptamer leads to an enhancement of the sensitivity of the biosensor.

Abstract
The current manuscript summarizes different electrochemical sensing systems developed within the last 5 years for the detection of zearalenone (ZEN) in diverse matrices such as food, feed, and biofluids. ZEN is one of the most prevalent non-steroidal mycotoxins that is often found in pre- and post-harvest crops. Crops contamination with ZEN and animal exposure to it via contaminated feed, is a global health and economic concern. The European Union has established various preventive programs to control ZEN contamination, and regulations on the maximum levels of ZEN in food and feed. Electrochemical (bio)sensors are a very promising alternative to sensitive but sophisticated and expensive chromatographic techniques. In the current review, recent developments towards electrochemical sensing of ZEN, sorted by type of transducer, their design, development, and approbation/validation are discussed, and the use of specialized electrochemical instrumentation is highlighted.

Abstract
Herein, an innovative ratiometric fluorescence (FL) aptasensor was successfully fabricated for the accurate analysis of zearalenone (ZEN) in corn and barley flour. The ZEN aptamer-modified nitrogen doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs-apt) and silica sphere-encapsulated cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs@SiO2) were directly mixed and applied as ratiometric probes. In the absence of ZEN, mitoxantrone (MTX), which was innovatively introduced as quencher, was captured by NGQDs-apt and its inner filter effect (IFE) on CdTe QDs@SiO2 was inhibited. When ZEN existed, MTX separated from NGQDs-apt and re-dispersed around CdTe QDs@SiO2 owing to the competitive binding of ZEN with its aptamer. As the IFE of free MTX on CdTe QDs@SiO2 recovering, the FL intensity of CdTe QDs@SiO2 was quenched, while the FL intensity of NGQDs-apt was nearly invariant. On this basis, a ratiometric FL aptasensor for ZEN was fabricated, which exhibited outstanding detection performances with a desirable detection limit of 0.32 pg mL-1.

Abstract
In this study, an ultra-sensitive and selective Thrombin biosensor with aptamer-recognition surface is introduced based on carbon nanocomposite. To prepare the this biosensor, screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) were modified with a nanocomposite made from fullerene (C60), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), polyethylenimine (PEI) and polymer quantum dots (PQdot). The unique characteristics of each component of the C60/MWCNTs-PEI/PQdot nanocomposite allow for synergy between nanoparticles while polymer quantum dots resulted in characteristics such as high stability, high surface to volume ratio, high electrical conductivity, high biocompatibility, and high mechanical and chemical stability. The large number of amine groups in C60/MWCNTs-PEI/PQdot nanocomposite created more sites for better covalent immobilization of amino-linked aptamer (APT) which improved the sensitivity and stability of the aptasensor. Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) method with probe solution was used as the measurment method. Binding of thrombin protein to aptamers immobilized on the transducer resulted in reduced electron transfer at the electrode/electrolyte interface which reduces the peak current (IP) in DPV. The calibration curve was drawn using the changes in the peak current (ΔIP),. The proposed aptasensor has a very low detection limit of 6 fmol L-1, and a large linear range of 50 fmol L-1 to 20 nmol L-1. Furthermore, the proposed C60/MWCNTs-PEI/PQdot/APT aptasensor has good reproducibility, great selectivity, low response time and a good stability during its storage. Finally, the application of the proposed aptasensor for measuring thrombin on human blood serum samples was investigated. This aptasensor can be useful in bioengineering and biomedicine applications as well as for clinical studies.

Abstract
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanomaterials have been widely used in various fields such as energy store and transformation, environment protection, and biomedicine due to their unique physicochemical properties. Unfortunately, such large-scale production and use of MoS2 nanomaterials would inevitably release into the environmental system and then potentially increase the risks of wildlife/ecosystem and human beings as well. In this review, we first introduce the physicochemichemical properties, synthetic methods and environmental behaviors of MoS2 nanomaterials and their typical functionalized materials, then summarize their environmental and biomedical applications, next assess their potential health risks, covering in vivo and in vitro studies, along with the underlying toxicological mechanisms, and last point out some special phenomena about the balance between applications and potential risks. This review aims to provide guidance for harm predication induced by MoS2 nanomaterials and to suggest prevention measures based on the recent research progress of MoS2' applications and exerting toxicological data.

Abstract
Herein, a photothermal triggered multi-signal readout (MSR) system was innovatively established with great convenience for low-cost and sensitive point-of-care testing (POCT). In this sensing system, an intelligent multi-signal readout interface (MSRI) with multidimensional response-ability to thermal stimulus was developed and utilized as a sensing element. A bio-bar-code photothermal probe peptides@H2N-HCNTs acted as a target associated photothermal agent anchored on MSRI via competitive reaction. The multi-signal assay of target was realized under the driven of 808 nm laser, photo-to-thermal conversion effect of photothermal probe caused dramatically thermal energy increase on MSRI. As a result, the competitive recognition events were translated into several detectable signals on MSRI, including a local temperature elevation, a visual color change from blue to green as well as weight loss on MSRI, all of these signals were proportional to the target concentration. This assay has been successfully applied in field work for detecting zearalenone (ZEN), a common mycotoxin in grain food, with linear ranger from 10-7 ng/mL to 10-1 ng/mL and detection limits of 1.06 × 10-7 ng/mL. Combination of the different signal principles was expected to result in more reliable and precise results. Accordingly, this creatively designed MSR-system not only provided a platform for sensitive monitor of mycotoxin but also offered new method for reliable and affordable personal assays in daily life and low-resource setting.

Abstract
Mycotoxins are a great potential threat to human health, and the progress in the development of mycotoxin detection methods is of an escalating importance with the increasing emphasis on food safety. Aptamer, performing the same function as antibody in specific binding with targets, exhibits profound potential in biosensing since its debut in 1990. Recent years have witnessed the rapid development of aptasensors for mycotoxin detection with the achievement of ultralow limit of detection and high sensitivity in the lab. However, there is still no officially approved aptasensing methods in mycotoxin detection application. In order to provide researchers with inspirations in the design and development of aptasensors for mycotoxin detection, we divide these aptasensors into two types, namely "on the surface" and "in the colloid", according to the location where the key sensing reaction occurs. We also systematically review aptasensors reported in the past 5 years under the abovementioned criterion of classification, and compare the advantages and disadvantages of each kind of aptasensors. Finally, we discuss prospective directions in the development of aptasensors for mycotoxin detection. This paper will offer insight and motivation to practitioners working on the research and practical application of aptasensors in the detection of mycotoxins and other substances.

Abstract
The high electrocatalytic performance plays a decisive role in the efficient electrochemical sensing of electrocatalysts. A spiral chiral carbon tube (HLCNT) loaded with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was prepared by electrochemical methods. Dopamine was first electropolymerized on the surface of the HLCNT, and then it acted as a localizer to uniformly load the AuNPs onto the surface of the HLCNT. The dopamine-localized gold nanoparticles @ left-handed spiral chiral carbon nanotubes (HLCNT-AuNPs-2) material combined the chiral structure of chiral carbon nanotubes and the high conductivity of AuNPs. The HLCNT-AuNPs-2 realized the qualitative and quantitative detection of tyrosine (Tyr) and tryptophan (Trp) isomers by their different oxidation potentials and current signals. Through quantitative detection, the analytical results showed that the detection limit of l-Trp was calculated to be 5.31 μM, and the detection limit of l-Tyr was 9.04 μM. More importantly, the material realized the real sample detection of amino acids, which is of great significance for the practical detection of amino acid isomers in medicine and biology.

Abstract
Zearalenone (ZEN) is a toxic compound produced by the metabolism of fungi (genus Fusarium) that threaten the food and agricultural industry belonging to the in foods and feeds. ZEN has toxic effects on human and animal health due to its mutagenicity, teratogenicity, carcinogenicity, nephrotoxicity, immunotoxicity, and genotoxicity. To ensure food safety, rapid, precise, and reliable analytical methods can be developed for the detection of toxins such as ZEN. Different selective molecular diagnostic elements are used in conjunction with different detection strategies to achieve this goal. In this review, the use of electrochemical, colorimetric, fluorometric, refractometric as well as other strategies were discussed for ZEN detection. The success of the sensors in analytical performance depends on the development of receptors with increased affinity to the target. This requirement has been met with different immunoassays, aptamer-assays, and molecular imprinting techniques. The immobilization techniques and analysis strategies developed with the combination of nanomaterials provided high precision, reliability, and convenience in ZEN detection, in which electrochemical strategies perform the best.

Abstract
Toxins are one of the major threatening factors to human and animal health, as well as economic growth. There is therefore an urgent demand from various communities to develop novel analytical methods for the sensitive detection of toxins in complex matrixes. Among the as-developed toxin detection strategies, nanocomposite-based aptamer sensors (termed as aptasensors) show tremendous potential for combating toxin pollution; in particular electrochemical (EC) aptasensors have received significant attention because of their unique advantages, including simplicity, rapidness, high sensitivity, low cost and suitability for field-testing. This paper reviewed the recently published approaches for the development of nanocomposite-/nanomaterial-based EC aptasensors for the detection of toxins with high assaying performance, and their potential applications in environmental monitoring, clinical diagnostics, and food safety control by summarizing the detection of different types of toxins, including fungal mycotoxins, algal toxins and bacterial enterotoxins. The effects of nanocomposite properties on the detection performance of EC aptasensors have been fully addressed for supplying readers with a comprehensive understanding of their improvement. The current technical challenges and future prospects of this subject have also been discussed.

Abstract
Accurate and early diagnosis of zearalenone (ZEN) is particularly significant to the food safety. Herein, we propose an ionic liquid assisted self-assembly molecular imprinting strategy for ZEN based on ionic liquid functionalized boron-doped ordered mesoporous carbon -gold nanoparticles composite (BOMC-IL-Au NPs). During the composite synthesis, increased well-dispersed and uniform Au NPs are deposited on the surface of IL modified BOMC, due to the strong electrostatic interaction between AuCl4- and positively charged IL. For molecular imprinting, the BOMC-IL-Au NPs/GCE is immersed into p-aminothiophenol (p-ATP) solution and template solution in turn. Thus, the mercapto group contained p-ATP self-assembles on the Au NPs. Subsequently, the template molecules self-assemble onto the composite to form dense template layer, because of the hydrophobic interaction, π-π and hydrogen bond between template and IL/or p-ATP. After electropolymerization, the template layer is embedded into the p-ATP polymer membrane and produces lots of imprinting sites. Hence, the obtained sensor exhibits high sensitivity and selectivity. Under the optimal conditions, zearalenone can be quantified from 5 × 10-4 to 1 ng mL-1 with the low detection limit of 1 × 10-4 ng mL-1, by using [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- probe and square wave voltammetry. This strategy can also be employed to construct sensors for the detection of other substances.

Abstract
Zearalenone (ZEN) is highly toxic to humans, and therefore, development of sensitive and effective methods for ZEN quantification in cereal crops is particularly important. Here, an innovative photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor based on simply in-situ conjugated composites of zinc oxide-nitrogen doped graphene quantum dots (ZnO-NGQDs) was constructed. On addition of NGQDs, the composites displayed higher PEC signal with 8.8-fold enhancement than pure ZnO nanoparticles. A sensitive and selective PEC aptasensor was fabricated by combining the composites with ZEN aptamer, which yielded an excellent analytical performance for ZEN detection, with a wide linear range of 1.0 × 10-13-1.0 × 10-7 g mL-1 and a low detection limit of 3.3 × 10-14 g mL-1. Good recoveries were obtained using the PEC aptasensor, which were consistent with those obtained using the national standard method (HPLC-MS). Finally, ZEN in mildewing cereal crops was monitored with the PEC aptasensor, exhibiting good potential for application in cereal crops for early diagnosis.
