Abstract
BACKGROUND ABO blood group's influence on cardiovascular risk, particularly in venous thromboembolism and coronary artery disease (CAD), is well-studied, with non-O blood groups associated with heightened CAD risk. However, its impact on stent thrombosis remains an unexplored area, prompting the question of whether ABO blood groups are also associated with risk of early stent thrombosis. OBJECTIVES The primary objective of this study was to analyze the impact of ABO blood groups on the occurrence of early (≤30 days) stent thrombosis. METHODS The study included 10,714 consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with implantation of drug-eluting stents (DES) at a tertiary care hospital. Among these, 78 patients (0.73 %) experienced early stent thrombosis. Propensity score matching was conducted using cardiovascular risk factors and predictors of stent thrombosis, including age, sex, diabetes, hypertension, smoking, hypercholesterinemia, and clinical presentation. RESULTS The presence of non-0 blood groups (blood groups A, B and AB; OR 1.48; 95 % CI 0.74-2.97; p = 0.27) and of A-antigen (blood groups A, AB; OR 0.93; 95 % CI 0.51-1.84; p = 0.89) was not associated early stent thrombosis, respectively. In contrast, patients with B-antigen (blood groups B, AB) were at higher risk of early stent thrombosis as compared to patients with blood group 0 (OR 2.48; 95 % CI 1.08-5.69; p = 0.019). CONCLUSION The presence of blood group antigen B (blood groups B and AB) emerged as a significant factor associated with early stent thrombosis. Further investigations are warranted to elucidate the specific biological mechanisms through which ABO blood group antigens could influence stent thrombosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have been conducted to investigate the relationship between ABO and Rhesus (Rh) blood groups and various health outcomes. However, a comprehensive evaluation of the robustness of these associations is still lacking. METHODS We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane, and several regional databases from their inception until Feb 16, 2024, with the aim of identifying systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies exploring associations between ABO and Rh blood groups and diverse health outcomes. For each association, we calculated the summary effect sizes, corresponding 95% confidence intervals, 95% prediction interval, heterogeneity, small-study effect, and evaluation of excess significance bias. The evidence was evaluated on a grading scale that ranged from convincing (Class I) to weak (Class IV). We assessed the certainty of evidence according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation criteria (GRADE). We also evaluated the methodological quality of included studies using the A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR). AMSTAR contains 11 items, which were scored as high (8-11), moderate (4-7), and low (0-3) quality. We have gotten the registration for protocol on the PROSPERO database (CRD42023409547). RESULTS The current umbrella review included 51 systematic reviews with meta-analysis articles with 270 associations. We re-calculated each association and found only one convincing evidence (Class I) for an association between blood group B and type 2 diabetes mellitus risk compared with the non-B blood group. It had a summary odds ratio of 1.28 (95% confidence interval: 1.17, 1.40), was supported by 6870 cases with small heterogeneity (I2 = 13%) and 95% prediction intervals excluding the null value, and without hints of small-study effects (P for Egger's test > 0.10, but the largest study effect was not more conservative than the summary effect size) or excess of significance (P < 0.10, but the value of observed less than expected). And the article was demonstrated with high methodological quality using AMSTAR (score = 9). According to AMSTAR, 18, 32, and 11 studies were categorized as high, moderate, and low quality, respectively. Nine statistically significant associations reached moderate quality based on GRADE. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest a potential relationship between ABO and Rh blood groups and adverse health outcomes. Particularly the association between blood group B and type 2 diabetes mellitus risk.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study investigated how non-O blood groups relate to thrombus burden (TB) and prognosis in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients, aiming to shed light on their association with thrombotic complications in cardiovascular diseases. METHODS Retrospectively, 1,180 STEMI patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention were included. The study population was divided into groups according to TB status and the groups were compared in terms of basic clinical characteristics, laboratory parameters and ABO blood group types. In addition, short-term (30 days) and long-term (12 months) clinical outcomes were assessed to evaluate the prognostic implications. RESULTS The analysis revealed a significant association between non-O blood groups and increased TB in STEMI patients (p = 0.001). Non-O blood group was independently associated with high TB (OR: 1.726, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.279-2.330, p < 0.001). Additionally, patients with non-O blood groups had higher short and long-term mortality rates (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.480, 95% CI: 1.361-4.520, p = 0.003; HR: 2.347, 95% CI: 1.433-3.844, p = 0.001; respectively). CONCLUSIONS This study emphasizes the significance of the ABO blood group system in STEMI outcomes, associating non-O blood groups with higher TB and poorer clinical outcomes. While proposing personalized treatment strategies based on blood group status to improve reperfusion interventions and outcomes, additional trials are needed to comprehensively evaluate their impact.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) pose a serious threat to people's health, with extremely high global morbidity, mortality, and disability rates. This study aimed to review the literature that examined the relationship between blood groups and CVD. Many studies have reported that non-O blood groups are associated with an increased risk and severity of coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes. Non-O blood groups increase the risk and severity of these conditions by increasing von Willebrand factor and plasma cholesterol levels and inducing endothelial dysfunction and inflammation. They have also been linked with increased coronary artery calcification, coronary lesion complexity, and poor collateral circulation. Blood groups also affect the prognosis of coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndrome and can alter the rate of complications and mortality. Several cardiovascular complications have been described for coronavirus disease 2019, and blood groups can influence their occurrence. No studies have found a significant relationship between the Lewis blood group and CVD. In conclusion, people with non-O blood groups should be vigilantly monitored for cardiovascular risk factors as prevention and proper treatment of these risk factors may mitigate their risk of CVD and adverse cardiovascular events.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The role of inflammation in the early development of vascular dysfunction remains complex. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) can cause an acute imbalance in the von Willebrand factor (vWF)-ADAMTS13 interaction, indicating a possible link between markers of haemostasis and low-grade inflammation. To better understand these inter-relationships in the early phases of disease development, we investigated whether vWF and ADAMTS13 associate with the pro-inflammatory markers, IL-6 and CRP in healthy young adults. We considered the role of blood types, sex and race on these relationships. METHODS In healthy black and white men and women (n = 1113; 24 ± 5 years; no previous diagnosis or medication use for chronic diseases) we analysed von Willebrand factor antigen (vWFag), ADAMTS13, IL-6 and CRP, and grouped blood types as non-O (A, B and AB) and O. Covariates included socioeconomic status, age, estimated glomerular filtration rate, 24-hour systolic blood pressure, waist circumference, glucose, total cholesterol, platelet count, γ-glutamyl transferase and total energy expenditure. RESULTS In the total group, vWFag was highest in the third tertile of both IL-6 and CRP (p ≤ 0.014), while ADAMTS13 was lowest in the third compared to the first IL-6 tertile (p = 0.006). In multivariate regression, vWFag associated positively with IL-6 (Adj R2 = 0.169; β = 0.123; p = 0.001) and CRP (Adj R2 = 0.163; β=0.094; p = 0.019) in the total group, in the O blood group (all p ≤ 0.051) and white men (all p ≤ 0.035). ADAMTS13 associated negatively with IL-6 (Adj R2 = 0.053; β = -0.154; p = 0.015) and CRP (Adj R2 = 0.055; β = -0.177; p = 0.009), only in the O blood group. CONCLUSIONS Markers of haemostasis associated independently with low-grade inflammation in the O type blood group and white men. An interplay between the haemostatic and inflammatory systems may already exist in young healthy adults and is dependent on blood groups, sex and race. This extends our understanding on the role of inflammation in the early development of vascular dysfunction prior to cardiovascular compromise.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the spectrum of phenotypes linked to the ABO blood group system, using genetic determinants of the ABO blood group system. Approach and Results: We assessed the risk of 41 health and disease outcomes, and 36 linear traits associated with the ABO blood group system in the UK Biobank cohort. A total of 406 755 unrelated individuals were included in this study. Blood groups A, B, and O were determined based on allele combinations of previously established single-nucleotide polymorphisms rs8176746, rs8176719 in the ABO gene. Group AB was excluded because of its relative small sample size. Overall, 187 387 (46%) were male with a mean (SD) age of 57±8.1 years and a median total exposure of 64 person-years (interquartile range, 57-70). Of 406 755 individuals, 182 621 (44.9%) participants had blood group O, 182 786 (44.9%) had blood group A, and 41 348 (10.2%) had blood group B. ABO blood groups were associated with 11 health and disease outcomes (P<2.19×10-4). ABO blood groups were primarily associated with cardiovascular outcomes. Compared with individuals with blood group O, blood groups A and B were associated with increased odds of up to 1.56 (95% CI, 1.43-1.69) for thromboembolic events and decreased odds for hypertension (0.94 [95% CI, 0.92-0.97]). CONCLUSIONS The ABO blood group system is associated with several parameters of healthy aging and disease development. Knowledge of ABO blood groups might be of interest for more personalized approaches towards health maintenance and the prevention of diseases.

Abstract
Blood group types are associated with coronary artery disease. However, data are scarce about the impact of blood group types on coronary collateral circulation. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the blood group types and coronary collateral circulation. Two hundred and twelve patients who underwent coronary angiography in our department and had a stenosis of ≥ 90% in at least one major epicardial vessel were included in our study. Collateral degree was graded according to Rentrop-Cohen classification. After grading, patients were divided into poor coronary collateral circulation (Rentrop grade 0 and 1) and good coronary collateral circulation (Rentrop 2 and 3) groups. The ABO blood type of all participants was determined. The incidence rates of O blood group type were significantly higher in the good coronary collateral group compared to the poor collateral group (37.9% vs 17.1%, P < .001). The O type blood group was an independent predictor of good coronary collateral circulation (odds ratio = 1.83, 95% confidence interval = 1.56-6.18, P = .015). Coronary collateral circulation is associated with blood group types. The O blood group predicts good coronary collateral development among patients with coronary artery disease.

Abstract
Human ovarian cyst glycoproteins (HOC, cyst gps) isolated from pseudomucinous type of human ovarian cyst fluids is one of the richest and pioneer sources for studying biosynthesis, structures and functional roles of blood group ABH, Lea,b,x,y, sLea and sLex active glycoproteins. After 70+ years of exploration, four top highlights are shared. (i) an updated concept of glycotopes and their internal structures in cyst gps was composited; (ii) the unknown codes of new genes in secreted cyst gps were unlocked as Lex and Ley; (iii) recognition profiles of cyst glycans and a sialic acid-rich (18%) glycan with lectins and antibodies were shown. (iv) Co-expression of Blood Group A/ A-Leb/y and B/B-Leb/y active Glycotopes in the same glycan chains were isolated and illustrated. These are the most advanced achievements since 1980.

Abstract
Objective To investigate whether ABO blood groups is associated with the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods Between January 2015 and December 2017, 1425 first diagnosed CAD patients confirmed by selective coronary angiography were recruited into this cross-sectional study, and their baseline characteristics, ABO blood groups, Gensini score were collected. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to test the association between the severity of CAD and ABO blood groups. Results The Gensini score was significantly higher in the blood group A than in the non-A groups (41.2 ± 32 vs. 38 ± 27; P = 0.026). After adjusting for age, male, smoking, family history of CAD, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia, multivariate linear regression indicated that blood group A was associated with the severity of CAD (β = 3.298, 95% CI: 0.91–6.505, P = 0.044). In diabetes group, A blood type was also associated with increased Gensini score (P = 0.02) after adjusting for age, male, family history of CAD, hypercholesterolemia, smoking and hypertension. Conclusion In this cross-sectional study, the data indicated that blood group A was an independent risk factor of severity of CAD in Chinese population and Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
Essentials Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of global mortality despite progress in control. We assessed the role of ADAMTS-13 in ischemic heart disease using Mendelian randomization. Genetically instrumented ADAMTS-13 activity reduced ischemic heart disease. Therapeutics targeting ADAMTS-13 activity could perhaps be repurposed in ischemic heart disease. BACKGROUND Despite great progress in the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease, it remains the leading cause of global mortality and morbidity, with new unexpected risk factors emerging and few effective new pharmaceutical treatments. ADAMTS-13 is involved in a clotting disorder, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, for which new treatments are being developed. Observationally, ADAMTS-13 activity is inversely associated with ischemic heart disease (IHD) but positively associated with diabetes. OBJECTIVES To obtain unconfounded estimates of the effect of ADAMTS-13 on IHD, diabetes and lipids. METHODS We applied genetic variants strongly, (P < 5 × 10-8 ), solely and independently associated with ADAMTS-13 to the largest available extensively genotyped case-control studies of IHD and diabetes and to a large study of lipids to obtain Mendelian randomization inverse variance weighted (IVW) estimates. Sensitivity was evaluated through weighted median and MR-Egger estimates. RESULTS Genetically predicted ADAMTS-13 activity, based on three genetic variants, was consistently inversely associated with IHD (IVW odds ratio [OR] 0.91 per effect size; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.86-0.97) but not with diabetes (OR 0.94, 95% CI 0.88-1.01) or high or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (0.01, 95% CI -0.02 to 0.04; -0.01, 95% CI -0.04 to 0.02, respectively). ADAMTS-13 antigen, based on four genetic variants, was not associated with any outcome. CONCLUSIONS This genetic validation of ADAMTS-13 activity as a target of intervention in IHD raises the possibility of new ways of prevention and treatment being developed by repurposing therapeutics that raise ADAMTS-13 activity, or by other environmental or dietary interventions that raise ADAMTS-13 activity.

Abstract
The ABO blood types related to morphological characteristics of atherosclerosis plaque are not clear. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between ABO blood groups and the coronary plaque characteristic. We retrospectively identified the target lesions in 392 acute coronary syndrome patients who underwent optical coherence tomography examination before stenting. Subjects were divided into different groups according to different blood types. The fibrous cap thickness was significantly thicker in O type compared with non-O type (0.075 ± 0.033 mm versus 0.061 ± 0.024, p < 0.001). Meanwhile, the incidence of thin-cap fibroatheroma was also significantly higher in O type compared with non-O type (51.0% versus 71.5%, p < 0.001). The O type showed a significantly larger minimum lumen area [1.26 (0.82, 2.13) versus 1.05 (0.67, 1.82), p = 0.020] and minimum lumen diameter [1.03 (0.74, 1.31) versus 0.95 (0.66, 1.25), p = 0.039] compared with non-O type. There were no differences found in incidence of lipid plaque, plaque rupture, and thrombus between different blood type groups even between O type and non-O type group (p > 0.05). The plaques of O type blood group were exhibited more stably compared with non-O type blood group. Moreover, the non-O type blood group have more serious coronary artery stenosis than O type blood group.

Abstract
Red blood cell (RBC) traits are routinely measured in clinical practice as important markers of health. Deviations from the physiological ranges are usually a sign of disease, although variation between healthy individuals also occurs, at least partly due to genetic factors. Recent large scale genetic studies identified loci associated with one or more of these traits; further characterization of known loci and identification of new loci is necessary to better understand their role in health and disease and to identify potential molecular mechanisms. We performed meta-analysis of Metabochip association results for six RBC traits—hemoglobin concentration (Hb), hematocrit (Hct), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and red blood cell count (RCC)—in 11 093 Europeans from seven studies of the UCL-LSHTM-Edinburgh-Bristol (UCLEB) Consortium. We identified 394 non-overlapping SNPs in five loci at genome-wide significance: 6p22.1-6p21.33 (with HFE among others), 6q23.2 (with HBS1L among others), 6q23.3 (contains no genes), 9q34.3 (only ABO gene) and 22q13.1 (with TMPRSS6 among others), replicating previous findings of association with RBC traits at these loci and extending them by imputation to 1000 Genomes. We further characterized associations between ABO SNPs and three traits: hemoglobin, hematocrit and red blood cell count, replicating them in an independent cohort. Conditional analyses indicated the independent association of each of these traits with ABO SNPs and a role for blood group O in mediating the association. The 15 most significant RBC-associated ABO SNPs were also associated with five cardiometabolic traits, with discordance in the direction of effect between groups of traits, suggesting that ABO may act through more than one mechanism to influence cardiometabolic risk.

Abstract
ABO blood group system, a well-known genetic risk factor, has clinically been demonstrated to be linked with thrombotic vascular diseases. However, the relationship between ABO blood group and coronary artery disease (CAD) is still controversial. We here performed an updated meta-analysis of the related studies and tried to elucidate the potential role of ABO blood group as a risk factor for CAD. All detectable case-control and cohort studies comparing the risk of CAD in different ABO blood groups were collected for this analysis through searching PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library. Ultimately, 17 studies covering 225,810 participants were included. The combined results showed that the risk of CAD was significantly higher in blood group A (OR = 1.14, 95% CI = 1.03 to 1.26, p = 0.01) and lower in blood group O (OR = 0.85, 95% CI = 0.78 to 0.94, p = 0.0008). Even when studies merely about myocardial infarction (MI) were removed, the risk of CAD was still significantly higher in blood group A (OR = 1.05, 95% CI = 1.00 to 1.10, p = 0.03) and lower in blood group O (OR = 0.89, 95% CI = 0.85 to 0.93, p < 0.00001). This updated systematic review and meta-analysis indicated that both blood group A and non-O were the risk factors of CAD.
