Abstract
BACKGROUND As global aging continues to intensify, the health status of the older people requires urgent attention, and health education provides a pathway for active aging. However, the current outlook on health education for older people in rural areas of China is not optimistic. This study used Social Ecosystems Theory and explored the deep-rooted influencing factors on the acceptance of health education from the perspective of the rural older people. METHODS In this study, a purposive sampling method was adopted, and eligible rural older individuals were selected from Hebi city, Henan Province, China, from March to May 2023 as the research participants. A semistructured interview method was used to explore the factors affecting the acceptance of health education by older people. The interview data were analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method to obtain relevant themes and subthemes. RESULTS A total of 14 participants were recruited for the interviews; 8 were male, 6 were female, most had an elementary school education, and most were farmers. The results of the thematic analysis revealed a total of nine facilitators and nine barriers in micro, meso and macro levels. Among the findings, our important and unique finding is that inadequate intergenerational support somewhat hinders older adults' exposure to health education. CONCLUSION There are numerous and complex facilitators of and barriers to accessing health education for rural older adults; of these, a lack of intergenerational support is particularly important. In the future, health education needs to be centered on the families of older people with the assistance of village committees so that older people and their children can learn and communicate together.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term care insurance (LTCI) was implemented in China to solve the elderly care problems caused by the aging population. It is crucial to evaluate the effectiveness of LTCI implementation from the perspective of value-based healthcare. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the impact of LTCI on medical care expenditure and health status in China. METHODS We used staggered difference-in-differences (DID) analysis to analyze the effect of LTCI policy on medical expenditure and health status based on China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study data from 2011 to 2018. RESULTS Our findings confirmed the positive contribution of LTCI policies to medical expenditures and health status. We found that the implementation of LTCI significantly reduced inpatient and outpatient expenditure, scores of self-report of health, and CESD scores by 26.3%, 12.3%, 0.103, and 0.538, respectively. It also decreased ADL scores, but the decrease was not significant. The impact of LTCI on reducing inpatient expenditure was greater for individuals aged between 65 and 80 and those residing in urban areas and eastern cities. In terms of outpatient costs, the effect of LTCI was more pronounced among median and high-income people and people living in central and eastern cities. The impact of LTCI on self-report of health is stronger for rural populations, individuals under 80, and those in central and eastern cities. For ADL scores, LTCI affected those aged 65-80 the most. About the CESD scores, LTCI had a greater impact on rural populations, people aged 45-65, median income groups, and those in eastern cities. CONCLUSIONS Our study underscored LTCI's effectiveness in curbing medical expenditures and enhancing health status, offering valuable insights for future LTCI development in China and beyond. Accelerating the development of LTCI is conducive to improving the quality of life of the disabled elderly, enhancing the well-being of people's livelihoods, and realizing the goal of value-based healthcare.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the advent of global aging, the health of the older population has become a critical public health challenge. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dual-tasking on gait performance in patients with sarcopenia. METHODS Thirty participants with sarcopenia (age: 70.73 ± 4.12 yr, MMSE score: 26.90 ± 3.00), including 14 males and 16 females, were selected according to the diagnostic criteria of the Asian Working Group on Sarcopenia. All participants were instructed to perform the gait test in three modes: single task (ST), cognitive-motor dual task (CMDT), and motor-motor dual task (MMDT). Statistical analyses were performed using one-way ANOVA to evaluate the effects of different task types on gait parameters of the participants. RESULTS (1) Compared with ST walking, gait frequency, step length, and step speed decreased, and the gait cycle and double-support phase increased in patients with sarcopenia during dual-task walking (p < 0.05); (2) Compared with ST walking, gait variability indices such as stride frequency, stride length, and support period significantly increased in patients with sarcopenia during dual-task walking (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The increased difficulty in postural control caused by dual-task interference may reduce the safety of motor strategies in patients with sarcopenia and increase the risk of falls. Future studies should focus on the effects of exercise interventions on multitasking patterns in people with sarcopenia to promote balance function in these populations.

Abstract
Rural residents in China are still at risk of malnutrition, and increasing dietary diversity is crucial to improving their health. This study empirically analyzed the impact of non-farm employment on the dietary diversity of rural left-behind family members based on the China Land Economy Survey (CLES) 2020-2021 panel data at the farm and village levels. Dietary diversity was measured using the dietary diversity score (DDS) and the Chinese Food Guide Pagoda Score (CFGPS). The empirical results show that non-farm employment significantly enhances the dietary diversity of rural left-behind household members, including animal food diversity and plant food diversity. This result verifies the altruism phenomenon of non-farm employment in family diet. Mechanism analysis shows that non-farm employment enhances the dietary diversity of rural left-behind family members by increasing the level of family income, Internet accessibility, and family education. Heterogeneity analysis shows that non-farm employment does not enhance the dietary diversity of rural empty nesters and even has a negative impact. This reminds us that the nutritional health of rural empty nesters needs attention in the context of rapid urbanization and aging.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This longitudinal cohort study aimed to examine the effect of intrinsic capacity (IC) and multimorbidity on the development of new disabilities. METHODS The study utilized data from 1,009 participants without disabilities from the I-Lan Longitudinal Aging Study. Multivariable logistic regressions were employed to assess the predictive capability of IC (ranging from 0 to 100) and multimorbidity for incident disability over a 7-year follow-up period. RESULTS Both low IC (OR 4.9, 95 % CI 2.1-11.1, p < 0.001) and multimorbidity (OR 4.5, 95 % CI 2.2-9.2, p < 0.001) significantly predicted incident disability over the 7-year period. A one-point increase in IC reduced the risk of incident disability by 10 % (OR 0.9, 95 % CI 0.8-0.9, p < 0.001). Among IC subdomains, both better locomotion (OR 0.96, 95 % CI 0.94-0.99, p = 0.014) and psychology (OR 0.97, 95 %CI 0.94-1.00, p = 0.049) significantly reduced the risk of incident disability. Rapid declines in IC significantly predicted incident disability (OR 4.1, 95 % CI 1.8-9.3, p = 0.001), whereas the onset of new multimorbidity or changes in the number of chronic conditions did not demonstrate a significant association with incident disability. The interaction terms between IC and multimorbidity, both categorically (low IC * multimorbidity, p = 0.959) and numerically (IC (per point) * multimorbidity, p = 0.660) were all statistically insignificant. CONCLUSIONS IC exhibited better predictive capacity for 7-year incident disability compared to multimorbidity, so health care services targeting older adults should adopt an integrated care approach that combines both function- and disease-centric strategies.

Abstract
Background: Physical weakness and cardiovascular risk increase significantly with age, but the underlying biological mechanisms remain largely unknown. This study aims to reveal the causal effect of circulating metabolites on frailty, sarcopenia and vascular aging related traits and diseases through a two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis. Methods: Exposures were 486 metabolites analyzed in a genome-wide association study (GWAS), while outcomes included frailty, sarcopenia, arterial stiffness, atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease (PAD) and aortic aneurysm. Primary causal estimates were calculated using the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method. Methods including MR Egger, weighted median, Q-test, and leave-one-out analysis were used for the sensitive analysis. Results: A total of 125 suggestive causative associations between metabolites and outcomes were identified. Seven strong causal links were ultimately identified between six metabolites (kynurenine, pentadecanoate (15:0), 1-arachidonoylglycerophosphocholine, androsterone sulfate, glycine and mannose) and three diseases (sarcopenia, PAD and atherosclerosis). Besides, metabolic pathway analysis identified 13 significant metabolic pathways in 6 age-related diseases. Furthermore, the metabolite-gene interaction networks were constructed. Conclusion: Our research suggested new evidence of the relationship between identified metabolites and 6 age-related diseases, which may hold promise as valuable biomarkers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to investigate how subjective aging influences the psychological and behavioral responses of older individuals, specifically focusing on the associations between subjective aging and longitudinal changes in biological age. METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study retrieving data from the Taiwan Longitudinal Study on Aging (TLSA), over a 4-year follow-up period. Subjective aging is assessed by asking participants if they perceive themselves as old, while frailty is measured using a frailty index comprising 34 deficits from various domains. Participants are categorized into three groups based on their chronological age. The association between subjective aging and transition of biological age (as indicated by an increased frailty index) from 2011 to 2015 is examined using logistic regression models. RESULTS The study consisted of 2412 participants, who were categorized into middle-age (n = 1,082), young-old (n = 779), and old-old (n = 551) groups. Among them, individuals exhibiting subjective aging at baseline were more likely to be older in chronological age, female, illiterate, and unemployed, compared to those without subjective aging. The adjusted odds ratios (aORs) for the association between subjective aging and an increased biological age were 1.72 [95% CI: 0.88-3.34], 1.61 [0.77-3.37], and 1.08 [0.65-1.80], in the middle-age, young-old, and old-old groups, respectively. DISCUSSIONS No significant associations were found between changes in biological age and subjective aging across various chronological age groups. Notably, within the younger age group, a discernible trend towards an association was observed, indicating the potential age-related nuances in the complex interrelation between subjective age, biological aging, and chronological aging.

Abstract
Introduction This study explored the state of rational drug use among older adults in central China, aiming to unveil factors influencing their medication literacy and proposing targeted improvement measures. Methods A cross-sectional study involving 454 participants aged 60 and above was conducted in Hubei province between February 1 and May 30, 2023, with data collected through face-to-face interviews by pharmacists. Multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine factors that affected medication literacy. Results Of the 412 valid questionnaires, findings revealed inadequate knowledge of rational drug use among older adults in central China. Those who fully understood (105, 25.49%, OR = 9.349, p < 0.001, 95%CI = 3.884-22.502) or partially understood (228, 55.34%, OR = 3.295, p = 0.002, 95%CI = 1.548-7.013) drug instructions exhibited significantly higher medication literacy than those who did not understand (79, 19.17%). Subsequent research revealed a lack of awareness in reading drug instructions or difficulty in understanding them. Most older adults seldom heard of but exhibited high acceptance of medication guidance services. Discussion In conclusion, the ability to comprehend drug instructions significantly influenced the medication literacy of older adults. Initiatives such as revising age-appropriate drug instructions could effectively enhance rational drug use among this demographic.

Abstract
AIMS Assessing the global burden and health inequalities of Hypertension Heart Disease (HHD) during the period from 1990 to 2019. METHODS Secondary analysis of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study in 2019, focusing on the burden of diseases, injuries, and risk factors worldwide. Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) data related to HHD are extracted from the 2019 GBD. Inequality Slope Index (SII) and Concentration Index are calculated to assess health inequalities across regions and countries. RESULTS The total DALYs for HHD reached 21.51 million, demonstrating a substantial increase of 54.25% compared to the figures recorded in 1990, while the age-standardized DALY rates per 100,000 population for HHD in 2019 showed a notable decline to 268.19 (95% UI 204.57, 298.07), reflecting a significant decrease of 26.4% compared to the rates observed in 1990. The DALYs rate of hypertensive heart disease increases with age. Countries with moderate SDI accounted for 38.72% of the global burden of HHD in terms of DALYs. The highest age-standardized DALY rates (per 100,000) are predominantly concentrated in underdeveloped areas. In 1990 and 2019, the SII (per 100,000 population) for DALYs were - 121.6398 (95% CI -187.3729 to -55.90684) and - 1.592634 (95% CI -53.11027 to 49.925) respectively. The significant decline suggests a reduction in the inequality of age-standardized burden of HHD between high-income and low-income countries during this period. CONCLUSION The unequal prevalence of HHD across different populations can hinder the achievement of the "health for all" objective. Persistent disparities in HHD have been observed globally over the past thirty years. It is crucial to prioritize efforts towards reducing avoidable health inequalities associated with hypertension-related heart disease, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries.

Abstract
The incidence of cutaneous melanoma continues to rise despite the increased use of sunscreens within the last several decades. Some research even suggests that the use of sunscreen is associated with increased rates of melanoma. Given the aggressive, and often deadly, nature of cutaneous melanoma, the aim of this communication is to better elucidate the relationship between sunscreen use and melanoma development and if there are other preventative measures to be aware of. A search was performed to identify the studies that have investigated melanoma development in individuals who used sunscreen and those who did not. Study limitations and possible confounding variables were identified, which guided a subsequent search to determine what data were available to support that these limitations and confounding variables may explain the perplexing association between sunscreen use and melanoma development. Five hypotheses were generated, which were related to increased awareness and reporting, the relationship between sunscreen use and the duration of sun exposure, the importance of broad-spectrum protection, and the effect of sunscreen on reactive oxygen species formation. The main conclusion is that more recent studies that control for confounding variables are required to determine the true effect of adequate broad-spectrum sunscreen use today on the development of melanoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medications (PIM) are widely recognized as vital quality indicators of pharmacotherapy in older adults. As Taiwan and Japan grapple with the ongoing challenges of population aging, obtaining an accurate understanding of the prevalence of these indicators is crucial for developing effective strategies to optimize pharmacotherapy in older populations. The present study aims to comprehensively evaluate the prevalence of polypharmacy and PIMs in Taiwan and two Japanese cohorts, shedding light on the similarities and differences in prescribing practices across these populations. METHODS This study employed a cross-sectional design to investigate individuals aged ≥65 years in Taiwan, as well as two Japanese cohorts: Japan Cohort 1 (dispensing data from chain pharmacies; year 2014 and 2019) and Japan Cohort 2 (claims data; year 2017 and 2019). The prescription records of these participants were collected from the national claims database in Taiwan for the years 2014, 2017, and 2019. To identify polypharmacy and hyper-polypharmacy, the study defined the use of 5-9 and 10+ drugs, respectively. Furthermore, the study identified PIMs based on the STOPP-J criteria. Notably, the study further explored the most frequently used PIMs (by categories) in Taiwan. RESULTS In the year 2019, the prevalence of polypharmacy exhibited similar rates in Taiwan (35.4%) and Japan Cohort 2 (33.1%), while surpassing that of Japan Cohort 1 (25.6%). Nonetheless, the incidence of PIMs in Taiwan was the highest (66.5%), exceeding those of the two Japanese cohorts (Cohort 1: 43.7% and Cohort 2: 40.2%) in the same year. Notably, the top three categories of commonly used PIMs in Taiwan comprised non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antithrombotic drugs, and benzodiazepines. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the varying prevalence of polypharmacy and PIMs between Taiwan and Japan, but emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts towards optimizing pharmacotherapy in older adults.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES As the psychosocial competence, personal mastery helps individuals to cope with stressful life events, and this study aims to examine impacts of declines in personal mastery on healthy aging among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults using a nationally representative cohort. METHODS Data from 648 study participants in the Social Environment and Biomarkers of Aging Study (SEBAS) were retrieved for analysis. All participants were divided into four groups based on their baseline and changes of personal mastery (measured by the Pearlin mastery score) during the 6-year follow-up. Multivariate logistic regression models were adopted to examine associations between declines in personal mastery and indicators for healthy aging (declines in self-perceived mobility, physical function (activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs)), cognitive function and depressive symptoms). RESULTS After adjustments for demographics and comorbidities, those with declines in personal mastery were associated with greater risks of declines in self-perceived mobility (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 1.50 [95% confidence interval 1.01-2.22], p < 0.05). Although the point estimate in the unadjusted models indicated similar associations between declines in personal mastery and declines in ADLs, IADLs, cognitive function or depressive symptoms, these outcomes did not reach statistical significance in the adjusted model. CONCLUSIONS Declines in personal mastery were negatively associated with indicators related to healthy aging (particularly locomotion) in a 6-year follow-up. Further investigations are needed to explore the effects of preventing declines in personal mastery in promoting healthy aging over time.

Abstract
Objective To perform a meta-analyses to understand the current status of and risk factors for depression in older adults with hypertension. Methods Eight electronic databases and two clinical trial registries were searched to identify studies examining the incidence of and risk factors for depression among older adults with hypertension. The databases were searched from inception to June 2023. The included studies were evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale and the evaluation tool recommended by the Agency for Health care Research and Quality. Results A total of 18 studies with 29,694 patients were included. Meta-analysis results showed that the prevalence of depression in older adults with hypertension was 29%. The risk factors for depression among this population included sex [OR value 95% confidence interval 2.24 (1.32, 3.82)], education level [OR 95% CI 1.79 (1.02, 3.14)], residence [OR 95% CI 1.37 (1.24, 1.52)], comorbidities [OR 95% CI 1.79 (1.69, 1.90)], hypertension classification [OR 95% CI 2.81 (1.79, 4.42)], marital status [OR 95% CI 1.50 (1.33, 1.69)], sleep status [OR 95% CI 2.86 (2.21, 3.69)], activity limitation [OR 95% CI 3.42 (2.84, 4.13)], drinking [OR 95% CI 2.25 (1.58, 3.19)], social support [OR 95% CI 3.26 (2.42, 4.41)], living alone [OR 95% CI 1.79 (1.57, 2.04)], stressful events [OR 95% CI 1.62 (1.39, 1.90)], and course of diseases [OR 95% CI 3.23 (2.10, 4.97)]. Conclusion The incidence of depression in older adults with hypertension is high, and there are many risk factors. Clinical health care professionals should intervene early to target the above risk factors to reduce the incidence of depression in older adults with hypertension worldwide. Abstract
Background Transitioning from marriage to widowhood presents inevitable and significant challenges for many older adults. This study explored the impact of widowhood on a range of mental health outcomes, including pulse pressure and fasting blood glucose levels, among older adults in nursing homes. Methods This cross-sectional study utilized cluster random sampling to recruit participants, with data analyzed from 388 older Chinese adults. Psychosocial traits were assessed using the Perceived Social Support from Family scale (PSS-Fa) for family support, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) for anxiety symptoms, and the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) for depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to control for confounding factors. A multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between widowhood, mental health outcomes, pulse pressure, and fasting blood glucose levels. Results After applying PSM, the sample size was refined to 268 (N = 134 for both married and widowed groups) from the initial 388, excluding 120 unmatched cases. Widowed older adults were found to have notably lower family support (β = -0.81, p = 0.002), increased depressive symptoms (β = 1.04, p = 0.043), elevated pulse pressure (β = 8.90, p < 0.001), and higher fasting blood glucose levels (β = 3.22, p = 0.027). These associations exhibited greater beta values compared to pre-matching analysis. Conclusion Our findings revealed that widowed participants had reduced family support, an increased risk of depressive symptoms, heightened pulse pressure, and elevated fasting blood glucose in comparison to their married counterparts. Interventions focusing on social support, mental health, and cardiovascular well-being could be advantageous for this at-risk group.

Abstract
We aimed to explore the correlation between plant-based diet indices and abdominal obesity with depression and anxiety among older Chinese adults. This study used a cross-sectional design using data from the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS). We used a simplified food frequency questionnaire to evaluate the overall plant-based diet index (PDI), the healthful plant-based diet index (hPDI), and the unhealthful plant-based diet index (uPDI) separately, based on the potential health effects of the foods. Waist circumference (WC) was used to define abdominal obesity. The 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D-10) and the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) were applied to estimate depression symptoms and anxiety symptoms, respectively. Multi-adjusted binary logistic regression models were conducted to explore the effects of the three plant-based diet indices, abdominal obesity status, and their interaction on depression and anxiety. We enrolled a total of 11,623 participants aged 83.21 ± 10.98 years, of which 3140 (27.0%) participants had depression and 1361 (11.7%) had anxiety. The trend in the prevalence of depression/anxiety across increasing quartiles of the plant-based diet indices was statistically significant after controlling for potential confounders (p-trend < 0.05). Abdominal obesity was related to a lower prevalence of depression (OR = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.77-0.95) and anxiety (OR = 0.79, 95% CI: 0.69-0.90) compared with non-abdominal obesity. The protective effects of the PDI and hPDI against depression (OR = 0.52, 95% CI: 0.41-0.64; OR = 0.59, 95% CI: 0.48-0.73, respectively) and anxiety (OR = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.57-1.00; OR = 0.52, 95% CI: 0.39-0.70, respectively) were more pronounced in non-abdominally obese participants. The harmful effects of the uPDI against depression (OR = 1.78, 95% CI: 1.42-2.23) and anxiety (OR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.16-2.10) were more pronounced in non-abdominally obese participants. In addition, a significant interaction between the plant-based diet indices and abdominal obesity was observed in terms of causing the prevalence of depression and anxiety. Consuming more of a healthful plant-based diet and less of an animal-based diet is related to a lower prevalence of depression and anxiety. A healthful plant-based diet plays a vital role in non-abdominally obese individuals.

Abstract
Age-related neurodegenerative diseases accompanied by learning and memory deficits are growing in prevalence due to population aging. Cellular oxidative stress is a common pathomechanism in multiple age-related disorders, and various antioxidants have demonstrated therapeutic efficacy in patients or animal models. Many plants and plant extracts possess potent antioxidant activity, but the compounds responsible are frequently unknown. Identification and evaluation of these phytochemicals is necessary for optimal targeted therapy. A recent study identified theaflavin-3,3'-digallate (TFDG) as the most potent among a large series of phytochemical antioxidants. Here we examined if TFDG can mitigate learning and memory impairments in the D-galactose model of age-related neurodegeneration. Experimental mice were injected subcutaneously with D-galactose (120 mg/kg) for 56 days. In treatment groups, different doses of TFDG were administered daily by gavage starting on day 29 of D-galactose injection. Model mice exhibited poor learning and memory in the novel object recognition and Y-maze tests, reduced brain/body mass ratio, increased brain glutamate concentration and acetylcholinesterase activity, decreased brain acetylcholine concentration, and lower choline acetyltransferase, glutaminase, and glutamine synthetase activities. Activities of antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase were also reduced, while the concentration of malondialdehyde, a lipid peroxidation product, was elevated. Further, antioxidant genes Nrf2, Prx2, Gsh-px1, and Sod1 were downregulated in brain. Each one of these changes was dose-dependently reversed by TFDG. TFDG is an effective antioxidant response inducer and neuroprotectant that can restore normal neurotransmitter metabolism and ameliorate learning and memory dysfunction in the D-galactose model of age-related cognitive decline.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the associations between cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk burden (estimated by the World Health Organization (WHO) algorithm) and cognitive impairments (e.g., incident dementia, global and domain-specific impairments) among CVD-, dementia- and disability-free, community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults during an 8-year follow-up. DESIGN A community-based longitudinal cohort study. SETTING Yuanshan township in Yi-Lan County, Taiwan. PARTICIPANTS A total of 889 community-dwelling residents aged 50 years or older. MEASUREMENTS Age, sex, educational level, employment status, alcohol status, body mass index, physical activity, gait speed, depressive symptoms, WHO region-specific CVD risk scores (10-year CV risk, low: <10% vs. moderate-to-high: ≥ 10%), Chinese version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), verbal memory by the delay-free recall in the Chinese Version Verbal Learning Test (CVVLT), language function by the Boston Naming Test and the category (animal) Verbal Fluency Test, visuospatial function by the Taylor Complex Figure Test, executive function by the digit backward and the Clock Drawing Test. RESULTS Compared to those with low CVD risk, middle-aged and older adults with moderate-to-high CVD risk were at greater risk for cognitive impairments with respect to the MMSE (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 1.60 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.19-2.15], P=0.002), verbal memory (aOR 1.97 [1.43-2.70], P< 0.001) and language (aOR 1.99 [1.46-2.70], P< 0.001), as well as incident dementia (aOR 2.40 [1.33-4.33], P=0.004). After adjusting for all covariates, CVD risk was not associated with other domains of cognitive impairment. CONCLUSIONS Among healthy, community-dwelling, middle-aged and older adults, those with moderate-to-high cardiovascular risk burden were significantly associated with incident dementia and global and domain-specific cognitive impairments (verbal memory and language), which suggests the existence of a relationship between early cognitive deficits and CVD risk burden. Further studies are needed to elucidate the pathophysiological mechanism of the link between CVD risk burden and cognitive impairment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Because light can regulate sleep rhythms, numerous studies have investigated whether light therapy can improve sleep disorders in older people, but its efficacy remains controversial. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to examine and summarize current evidence about the efficacy of light therapy to improve sleep for older people in residential long-term care. DESIGN Systematic review. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Older people living in long-term care settings. METHODS Systematic searches were conducted in the databases PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, EMBASE, CINAHL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, WanFang, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and in reference lists within relevant articles. Studies were eligible for inclusion if they evaluated light therapy for older people with sleep disorders in long-term care settings. RESULTS This systematic review includes 21 articles, summarizing light therapy with different durations and intensities. The light intervention was typically administered between 7:00 and 12:00 am for 30-120 minutes. The interventions lasted from 1 week to several months, and the intensity of the light intervention usually ranged from 2500 to 10,000 lux. Short-term exposure (30-60 minutes) with high light levels (≥10,000 lux), relatively long-term exposure (1-2 hours) with moderate light levels (2500-10,000 lux), or long-term exposure (1-4 hours or full day) with low light levels (≤2500 lux) were associated with improved sleep indicators for older people in long-term care settings. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS The efficacy of light therapy in long-term care settings may be affected by the duration of exposure, time and length of intervention, intensity of light, and equipment used to administer the therapy. Further research must be conducted to optimize light therapy parameters. Large, high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to deepen our understanding of the effects of light therapy on sleep in older people living in long-term care settings.

Abstract
Background Studies have confirmed that social factors, including social capital and eHealth literacy, are important in later life. Currently, few studies are available for determining the relationship between social capital and eHealth literacy, and whether such a relationship exists among older people and there are age and gender differences in the relationship remain unclear. Consequently, this study aimed to investigate the association between social capital and eHealth literacy, specifically examing its variations in age and gender. Methods A cross-sectional study of 4,257 residents aged ≥ 60 years and dwelling in the community was conducted across four cities in China. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on general characteristics, socioeconomic status, social capital, and eHealth literacy. Generalized linear models were employed to assess these associations. Results There were 4,218 respondents (age 71.9 ± 7.2 years; 64.8% women). Overall, social participation, social connection, trust, cohesion, and reciprocity were all statistically associated with eHealth literacy (p < 0.05), while such an association was not observed for social support (p > 0.05). Specifically, a higher level of social participation was associated with better eHealth literacy scores among participants aged 70-79 years (p < 0.001), and a higher level of social connection was associated with better eHealth literacy scores for those aged 60-69 and 70-79 years (p < 0.001). Meanwhile, no gender differences in the associations were found. Conclusion There is an association between social capital and eHealth literacy in older men and women. The association varis with age. The findings provide a reference for developing targeted measures to improve self-perceived eHealth literacy among older people. It is essential for achieving active and healthy aging and developing the knowledge and understanding of relevant theories, concepts, and evidence within the field of health and social capital.

Abstract
The increase of the aging population in China and the rise of the concept of healthy aging have accelerated the transformation and upgrading of the traditional elderly nursing pattern. Nevertheless, there is a critical limitation existing in the current situation of China's elderly care, i.e., the medical institutions do not support elderly nursing and the elderly nursing institutions do not facilitate access to medical care. To eliminate the adverse impact of this issue, twelve ministries and commissions of the Chinese government have jointly issued a document, i.e., the Several Opinions on Further Promoting the Development of Combining the Healthcare with the Elderly care (SOFPDCHE), to provide guidance from the government level for further promoting the integration of elderly healthcare and elderly nursing. Under this background, this paper constructs a healthcare-nursing information collaboration network (HnICN) based on the SOFPDCHE, proposing three novel strategies to explore the different roles and collaboration relationships of relevant government departments and public organizations in this integration process, i.e., the node identification strategy (NIS), the local adjacency subgroup strategy (LASS), and the information collaboration effect measurement strategy (ICEMS). Furthermore, this paper retrieves 484 valid policy documents related to "the integration of elderly healthcare and elderly nursing" as data samples on the official websites of 12 sponsored ministries and commissions, and finally confirms 22 government departments and public organizations as the network nodes based on these obtained documents, such as the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China (NHC), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT), and the National Working Commission on Aging (NWCA). In terms of the collaboration effect, the results of all node-pairs in the HnICN are significantly different, where the collaboration effect between the NHC and MIIT is best and that between the NATCM and MIIT is second best, which are 84.572% and 20.275%, respectively. This study provides the quantifiable results of the information collaboration degree between different government agencies and forms the optimization scheme for the current collaboration status based on these results, which play a positive role in integrating elderly healthcare and elderly nursing and eventually achieving healthy aging.
