Abstract
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) consist of a broad group of restorative resources often linked to existing local cultures and established health care systems and are also increasingly used in children with some serious illnesses. In this narrative review, we examine the epidemiology of the use, efficacy, and safety of complementary and alternative medicine in pediatric oncology, neurology, and hepatology. We searched for relevant articles published in Pubmed evaluating CAM use and its efficacy in safety in children affected by oncologic, neurologic and liver diseases. CAM is used to improve the success of conventional therapies, but also to alleviate the pain, discomfort, and suffering resulting from the diseases and their treatment, which are often associated with a significant burden of adverse effects. CAM use must be evaluated in children with neurological, oncological and liver diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurological and mental developmental disorders in children. Published systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs) concerning the use of acupuncture for ADHD have compared the efficacy of acupuncture treatment to that of drug therapies. However, the quality of these articles has not been evaluated and the evidence varies widely. OBJECTIVE To summarize and assess the efficacy of acupuncture for ADHD based on existing SRs and MAs. METHODS A systematic search of the literature was conducted from inception until September 16 2021, using seven electronic databases. The AMSTAR-2 tool was used to evaluate the quality of SRs and MAs, and the GRADE system was used to assess the quality of evidence. RESULTS There are a total of five SRs and MAs included in this overview. Using the AMSTAR-2, three articles were rated as having 'Low' quality, while two were rated as having of 'Critically Low' quality. The GRADE system was used to measure the quality of evidence for ten outcomes (five response rate outcomes, three Conners' Index of Hyperactivity (CIH) score outcomes, one Conners' rating scale score outcome, and one Chinese medicine syndrome outcome) across the five included MAs. Four of the ten outcomes demonstrated 'moderate' quality, four demonstrated 'low' quality, and two demonstrated 'very low' quality. The risk of bias and inconsistency accounted for most downgrading factors in the included reviews. CONCLUSION It is still debatable whether acupuncture is efficacious in improving the CIH score and the Response rate. Considering the heterogeneity of clinical trials and the fact that this study did not search and evaluate the relevant data of each randomized controlled trial, large-sample and high-quality randomized controlled trials are still needed to draw reliable conclusions regarding acupuncture's role in treating ADHD. Due to the poor quality of existing available evidence, little inference can be drawn from the included studies.

Abstract
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder and has a predilection for children. Its symptoms, such as lifelong social communication deficits and repetitive sensory-motor behaviors, put a huge burden on the patient's family and society. Currently, there is no cure for ASD, and some medications that can improve its symptoms are often accompanied by adverse effects. Among many complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies, acupuncture has shown promising application potential, but after years of practice, it has not been recognized as the preferred CAM therapy for ASD. Therefore, we analyzed and discussed the clinical study reports of acupuncture in the treatment of ASD in the past 15 years from the aspects of study subjects, group setting, intervention modalities, acupoint selection, outcome evaluation, and safety. The data accumulated at present are not sufficient to support the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture in ASD and to justify its use in clinical practice. They provide, however, initial evidence of possible effectiveness and encourage further investigation in order to reach firm conclusions. Based on a comprehensive analysis, we believed that following the Standards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture (STRICTA) and Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT), screening the optimal combination of acupoints applying a rigorous scientific study design, and performing the related functional experiments may be the effective way to convincingly test the hypothesis that acupuncture may be beneficial in ASD patients. The significance of this review is to provide a reference for researchers to carry out high-quality clinical trials of acupuncture in the treatment of ASD from the perspective of the combination of modern medicine and traditional Chinese medicine.

Abstract
First-line psychopharmacologic and psychosocial treatments for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in children are effective but limited by tolerability and accessibility problems. Many complementary and integrative strategies have been investigated as alternative or adjunctive treatments for the disorder, and the literature has progressed to meta-analyses for several. Although heterogeneity of study methods and risk of bias pervades the literature, we conclude that Omega-3 supplementation, dietary restriction of artificial food colorings, and physical activity can be considered evidence-based. Additionally, meditation, yoga, and sleep hygiene are safe, partially effective, cost effective and sensible adjunctive treatment strategies.

Abstract
Background Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by attention deficit, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Jing-Ning Granules (JNG) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that can alleviate ADHD. Although JNG is commonly used for the effective treatment of ADHD and has obtained the national invention patent, the exact mechanism of action remains unclear. Objective In this study, we examined the effect and mechanism of JNG in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). We hypothesized that JNG affects dopaminergic D2/D1-like receptors and related pathways. Materials and Methods Six rat groups were used in the experiment: Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY, control group) and five SHR groups, including a model group; atomoxetine (ATX, positive control) group; and low, medium, and high-dose JNG groups. The corresponding treatments were daily administered to each group for 6 weeks. A behavioral test, including a step-down test and open field test (OFT), was carried out at the end of treatment. After the behavioral test, all animals were sacrificed, and the brain tissue was collected and analyzed ex vivo; histopathological analysis was performed to assess the pathological changes of the hippocampus; expression of D1-like and D2-like receptors, sensor protein calmodulin (CaM), protein kinase A (PKA), and calcium/calmodulin-dependent serine/threonine protein kinase (CaMKII) in the striatum and hippocampus was measured by western blot and real-time quantitative PCR (RT-PCR); cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in the striatum were analyzed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), while the level of Ca2+ in the striatum was analyzed by a calcium kit. Results Our results showed that ATX or JNG could ameliorate the hyperactive/impulsive behavior and cognitive function of ADHD by promoting neuroprotection. Mechanistically, ATX or JNG could prompt the expressions of Dl-like and D2-like receptors and improve the mRNA and protein levels of cAMP/PKA and Ca2+/CAM/CAMKII signaling pathways. Conclusion These results indicate that JNG can produce therapeutic effects by regulating the balance of D2/D1-like receptor-mediated cAMP/PKA and Ca2+/CaM/CaMKII signaling pathways.

Abstract
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common childhood neurodevelopmental disorder. It may impact the cognitive and social functions throughout childhood and determine adult outcomes. Dopamine (DA) deficiency theory is the pathogenesis of ADHD that is recognized by most international literature. Existing studies have shown that DA deficiency is caused by the abnormal function of the DA transporter and an imbalance in the DA receptor functionality. Recent clinical and experimental studies have found that the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) signaling pathway acts a pivotal part in DA vesicle circulation and ADHD pathogenesis. An Shen Ding Zhi Ling (ASDZL) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, which was widely prescribed to treat ADHD in Jiangsu, China, but its therapeutic mechanism is unclear. Therefore, we constructed a spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) model to explain its mechanism. SHRs were randomly assigned to four groups: SHR model group (vehicle), methylphenidate hydrochloride group (MPH), ASDZL group, and 7,8-dihydroxyflavone group (7,8-DHF). At the same time, the above groups were given continuous medication for four weeks. The results show that ASDZL, MPH, and 7,8-DHF group could significantly improve the spatial memory of SHRs in the Morris water maze tests. ASDZL increased the levels of BDNF, TrkB, p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75), C-Jun N-terminal kinases 1 (JNK1), and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and hippocampus synaptosome of SHRs. The results of this study suggest that ASDZL can relieve the symptoms of ADHD in SHRs by regulating the balance between the BDNF/TrkB signaling pathway (promoting vesicle circulation) and the BDNF/P75/JNK1/NF-κB signaling pathway (inhibiting vesicle circulation) within the PFC and hippocampus synaptosome to increase the DA concentration in the synaptic cleft. The BDNF/TrkB signal pathway within the PFC and hippocampus synaptosome was activated by 7,8-DHF to increase DA concentration in the synaptic cleft. Whether 7,8-DHF can activate or inhibit the BDNF/P75 signaling pathway remains unclear.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Beneficial effects of parent-administered pediatric tuina on ADHD in children have been reported in previous studies, but no rigorously designed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have been conducted on it. OBJECTIVE To assess the feasibility and preliminary effects of parent-administered pediatric tuina for ADHD symptoms in preschoolers. METHODS This project was a two-arm, parallel, open-label, pilot RCT. Sixty-four participants were randomized into two groups at a 1:1 ratio. Parents in the parent-administered tuina group (n = 32) attended an online training program on pediatric tuina for ADHD and conduct this intervention on their children at home. Parents in the parent-child interaction group (n = 32) attended an online training about progressive muscle relaxation exercise and carried out parent-child interactive physical activities with their children at home. Both interventions were carried out every other day during a two-month intervention period, with each manipulation for at least 20 min. Feasibility outcomes included recruitment rate, consent rate, participants' adherence, retention rate, and adverse event. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, week 4, and week 8. The primary outcome measure was the Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham parent scale (SNAP); the secondary outcomes included preschool anxiety scale, children's sleep habits questionnaire, and parental stress scale. A mixed-method process evaluation embedded within the outcome evaluation was performed. RESULTS The recruitment rate was 12.8 per month. The consent rate was 98.5%. Good adherence was shown from the parent logbook. Four participants withdraw from the study. No severe adverse event was reported. For the SNAP total score, both groups showed improvement with moderate within-group effect size (Cohen's d > 0.5, all p < 0.001) and the between-group effect size was minimal (dppc2< 0.2, p > 0.05). Perceived improvements on children's appetite and sleep quality, and parent-child relationship was observed from the qualitative data. CONCLUSIONS The study design and the parent-administered pediatric tuina intervention were feasible. Parent-administered pediatric tuina provided beneficial effects on improving core hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms in preschool children. Parents perceived improvements on children's appetite and sleep quality. Further large-scale are warranted.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). METHODS AND ANALYSIS We will electronically search PubMed, Medline, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trial, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Biomedical Literature Database, China Science Journal Database, and Wan-fang Database from their inception. Also, we will manually retrieve other resources, including reference lists of identified publications, conference articles, and grey literature. The clinical randomized controlled trials or quasi-randomized controlled trials related to acupuncture treating pediatric ADHD will be included in the study. The language is limited to Chinese and English. Research selection, data extraction, and research quality assessment will be independently completed by 2 researchers. Data were synthesized by using a fixed effect model or random effect model depend on the heterogeneity test. The scores of Revised Conners' Parent Rating Scale (CPRS-R), Conners Teacher Rating Scale (CTRS-R), and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) will be the primary outcomes. Besides, the scores of the Conners Continuous Performance Test, Internal Restlessness Scale, and Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC), and the possible adverse events will also be assessed as secondary outcomes. RevMan V.5.3 statistical software will be used for meta-analysis, and the level of evidence will be assessed by Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). Continuous data will be expressed in the form of weighted mean difference or standardized mean difference with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), while dichotomous data will be expressed in the form of relative risk with 95% CIs. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The protocol of this systematic review (SR) does not require ethical approval because it does not involve humans. Abstract
BACKGROUND Medication and behavior therapy are the conventional treatments for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but they have limitations for preschool children. Evidence suggests that pediatric tuina, which is a modality of traditional Chinese medicine, might have beneficial effects on this condition. OBJECTIVE To assess the feasibility of conducting an RCT in terms of recruitment, use, and acceptability of the parent-administered pediatric tuina for ADHD symptoms in preschoolers. METHODS It is a single-center, two-arm, parallel, open-label, pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT). Sixty children with pre-specified ADHD symptoms (hyperactivity, anxiety, and sleep disturbance) together with one of their parents will be recruited and randomized into two groups at a 1:1 ratio. Parents in the parent-administered tuina group (intervention group, n = 30) will attend an online training program to learn pediatric tuina skills for ADHD symptoms and conduct this treatment on their children at home. Parents in the parent-child interaction group (comparison group, n = 30) will attend an online training about progressive muscle relaxation exercise and do this exercise with their children at home. Additional teaching materials will be provided to the participants in both groups. Both interventions should be carried out every other day during a 2-month treatment period, with each time around 20 min. Assessment will be performed at baseline, week 4, and week 8. The primary outcome measure is the Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham parent scale; the secondary outcomes include preschool anxiety scale, children's sleep habits questionnaire, and parental stress scale. A process evaluation embedded within the outcome evaluation will be performed. Differences in the scale scores and test parameters between groups will be examined using a linear mixed-effects model. Qualitative data will be analyzed using thematic content analysis, facilitated by QSR NVivo. DISCUSSION This study will provide evidence on the acceptability and feasibility of pediatric tuina for ADHD in preschool children. The process evaluation will help to better understand the facilitators and barriers of the intervention functioning. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Many young adults are affected by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and often desire non-pharmacological treatment options. Mind-body techniques might serve as complementary therapies to first-line stimulant medications, but studies are limited. Tai Chi is an increasingly popular practice that integrates movement with cognitive skills relevant to ADHD. We performed a feasibility trial of Tai Chi training in undergraduates to inform the design of a fully powered randomized controlled trial (RCT). METHOD Undergraduates with ADHD were recruited, screened, enrolled, and assessed at baseline. They were assigned to three parallel seven-week intervention arms, Tai Chi, Active Control (cardio-aerobic fitness), and Inactive Control (no contact), with follow-up assessments. Feasibility of a larger clinical trial was evaluated, especially with respect to enrollment and retention. Additionally, potential clinical outcome measures were examined for practicality and reliability. RESULTS 21 participants were assessed at baseline and 19 at follow-up (90 % retention). The primary clinical outcome measure, self-reported inattention symptoms (Conners' CAARS-S:L DSM-IV Inattentive Symptoms subscale), exhibited good test-retest reliability in controls (r = 0.87, n = 10) and correlated with reduced mindfulness (FFMQ acting with awareness subscale) at baseline (r = -0.74, n = 20). Class attendance and self-reported daily practice time were variable. Randomization to group classes was hindered by the college students' restricted schedules. CONCLUSION The high retention rate and good data quality suggest that an RCT of Tai Chi for ADHD is feasible. Further measures are identified to improve enrollment rates, adherence, and randomization procedures. Future work might extend to other young adult populations and high school students.

Abstract
As revealed in previous reports, calycosin is a functional flavonoid characterized with identified pharmacological activities. Most of evidences are used to demonstrate the anti-cancer benefits of calycosin, however, the existing study of anti-fatty liver medicated by calycosin is limitedly reported. Recently, an emerging avenue based on network pharmacology may contribute to excavate the biological targets and molecular mechanisms of calycosin for anti-fatty liver. In confirmatory experiments, the human and animal studies were subjected to verify some of bioinformatic results. Accordingly, bioinformatic data based on network pharmacology suggested that discoverable biotargets of calycosin for anti-fatty liver were aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2), Niemann pick C1 (NPC1), high mobility group protein 1 (HMGB1), bilirubin UDP glucuronosyltransferase 1 (UGT1A1), mitogen-activated protein kinase 3 (MAPK3), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), hydroxytryptamine receptor 2 (HTR2), migration inhibitory factor (MIF), cytochrome P450, family 19A1 (CYP19A1). Furthermore, all significant biological characteristics and mechanisms of to treat fatty liver were revealed in several. In human findings, the blood tests showed changed glucose and lipid contents, elevated insulin resistance and inflammatory stress. And fatty liver sections from patients resulted in negative expressions of ALDH2, NPC1, and positive HMGB1 expression. In a study in vivo, calycosin-treated high fat diet (HFD)-fed mice exhibited reduced liver weights, decreased fasting serum glucose and insulin, liver functional transaminases, blood lipids, metabolic enzymes, and inflammatory cytokines. And the data in gene tests displayed up-regulations of ALDH2, NPC1 mRNAs, and down-regulation of HMGB1 mRNA in calycosin-treated liver samples. Together, the current bioinformatic data demonstrate biological targets, functions and mechanisms of calycosin for anti-fatty liver. Interestingly, these bioinformatic findings can be partially verified with clinical and animal samples.

Abstract
Objective: This feasibility study examined the effects of a particular Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and related problem behaviors. Design: A total of 79 participants aging 6-12 years consumed a granulated TCM herbal formula twice daily over a period of 3 months and underwent assessments at months 0, 3, and 6. Changes in ADHD symptoms and related behaviors were measured using the ADHD rating scale-IV (ADHD-RS-IV), child behavior checklist (CBCL), children's global sssessment scale (CGAS), as well as the clinical global impressions-severity (CGI-S) and improvement (CGI-I) scales. Results: Repeated measures mixed model analyses revealed significant differences in scores across time on all ADHD-RS-IV and CBCL subscales as well as on the CGAS, CGI-S, and CGI-I scales. Pairwise comparisons between months 0 and 3 as well as months 0 and 6 indicated significant improvements in scores. Scores also did not differ significantly between months 3 and 6. The results may suggest that this particular TCM formula possesses potential therapeutic qualities in the treatment of ADHD. Furthermore, changes in ADHD symptoms generally appear to be stable 3 months after discontinuation. However, these findings could also be attributed to placebo effects as well as reporting biases. Conclusion: This particular TCM formula may prove to be a useful adjunctive treatment for children with ADHD, and randomized controlled trials need to be conducted to evaluate its efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely used in the treatment of Tourette's Syndrome (TS). However, the efficacy and safety of TCM in treating TS are mixed across studies. This is a meta-analysis of studies on the efficacy and safety of TCM compared to placebo and Western medicine (WM). METHODS PubMed, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, SinoMed, and WanFang databases were systematically searched from inception date to October 16, 2018. Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) on the efficacy and safety of TCM alone or TCM + WM combination for TS were included. RESULTS A total of 15 studies comprising 21 treatment trials (n = 2824) were included. TCM alone was more efficacious than placebo in terms of response rate (Relative Risk, RR: 1.96, 95% CI: 1.55-2.47, P < 0.01, I2 = 45 %) and the change in the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale total score (Standard mean difference, SMDs: -0.67, 95% CI: -0.81, -0.53, P < 0.01, I2 = 0 %). The results remained positive when TCM alone was compared with WM alone (RR: 1.06, 95% CI: 1.00-1.12, P = 0.03, I2 = 29 %), and when TCM + WM were compared with WM alone (RR: 1.24, 95% CI: 1.08-1.43, P < 0.01, I2 = 0 %). Adverse drug reactions were more frequent in WM than in TCM groups (P < 0.05). WM type (P = 0.02), proportion of males (P = 0.03) and trial duration (P = 0.03) were significantly associated with response rate in TS patients when comparing TCM alone with WM alone. CONCLUSION The results of this meta-analysis support the efficacy and safety of TCM alone and TCM + WM in TS patients.

Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has from ancient times been applied in China for the treatment of breast cancer with its own unique theoretical system. Sanhuang decoction composed of astragalus membranaceus, prepared rhubarb, and rhizoma curcumae longae has traditionally been used for antioxidant stress, inflammatory reaction, and angiogenesis. However, the role and mechanism of Sanhuang decoction in breast cancer remains unknown. The present study demonstrated the antitumor activity of Sanhuang decoction against breast cancer xenografts in nude mice. Notably, Sanhuang decoction promoted severe necrosis and induced cell death. In addition, Sanhuang decoction obviously regulated the inflammation and oxidative stress. Despite these, Sanhuang decoction could increase the expression of Nrf2. Moreover, si-Nrf2 exhibited the opposite effects compared with the Sanhuang decoction treatment group and reversed the antibreast cancer role of Sanhuang decoction. Further, Sanhuang decoction remarkably suppressed the expression of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. Taken together, Sanhuang decoction was firstly evaluated to possess potent antibreast cancer effect in vivo through regulation of inflammation and oxidative stress accomplished by up-regulation of Nrf2 via PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway and Sanhuang decoction might be a powerful candidate formula for antibreast cancer.

Abstract
Studies suggest that abnormal neurodevelopment of prefrontal striatal circuits is implicated in the pathogenesis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In the present study, we investigated the effect of catalpol, an active ingredient of Rehmanniae radix preparata, which is the most frequently used Chinese medicinal herb for the treatment of ADHD, on behavior and neurodevelopment in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). SHR were divided into SHR group (vehicle, i.g.), methylphenidate (MPH) group (2 mg/kg/day, i.g.), and catalpol group (50 mg/kg/day i.g.), and Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats were used as control group (vehicle, i.g.). Open Field Test (OFT) and Morris water maze (MWM) test were performed to assess the effect of catalpol on behavior. Results revealed that both catalpol and MPH treatment decreased average speed, time spent in the central area, rearing times, and central area visits, increased the immobility time of SHR in OFT, and increased number of visits to the annulus, and time spent in target quadrant in the MWM test. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining showed that catalpol reduced irregular neuronal arrangement, ruptured nuclear membranes, and resulted in disappearance of the nucleolus in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and striatum of SHR. Moreover, immuno-fluorescent staining of NeuN and myelin basic protein (MBP) indicated that catalpol ameliorated neuronal loss and contributed to myelination. Finally, western blot and immunostaining analysis suggested that several regulatory proteins involved in PFC development were up-regulated by catalpol treatment, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5), p35, fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 21 and its receptor (FGFR)1. Taken together, catalpol can effectively ameliorate hyperactive and impulsive behavior, improve spatial learning and memory in SHR, likely through the neurodevelopmental pathways. Nonetheless, whether catalpol could attenuate inattention in SHR and the pathway by which catalpol reduces neuronal loss remain to be further studied.

Abstract
Objective Several attempts have been made to reduce the harmful side effects and increase the efficacy of current drugs used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Many articles have studied medicinal herbs as an effective supplement in treating ADHD. In a similar manner, this study provides foundational data to identify herbs that are potentially effective in treating ADHD by text mining of Donguibogam, which is a comprehensive summation of the important traditional principles and practices of Korean medicine. Methods Text mining was performed for 3833 herbal prescriptions and 1108 medicinal herbs comprising prescriptions listed in Donguibogam. The first step was frequency analysis followed by chi-square test, which is a statistical hypothesis test. Results and Conclusions Twelve medicinal herbs were selected for each ADHD subtype: hyperactivity ADHD type (ADHD-PHI) and attention-deficit ADHD type (ADHD-PI). Compared to previous research on traditional literature, a newer and more efficient methodology of selecting herbal medicines was developed in this process.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To summarize the current evidence on the effects and safety of massage therapy for the treatment of ADHD in children and adolescents. METHOD A systematic review of 8 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 3 case series studies was conducted with a meta-analysis of 4 of the RCTs. RESULTS Pooled analysis showed that massage produced more improvement in ADHD symptoms in terms of effective rate compared to Ritalin (risk ratio: 1.39, 95%CI: 1.16 - 1.66; P = 0.0004). Individual RCTs suggested that massage was differed significantly from waitlist control in improving the conditions of anxious-passive (mean difference: -11.7; 95%CI [-17.84, -5.56]; P = 0.0002), and asocial behavior (mean difference = - 8.60; 95%CI [-15.87, -1.33]; P = 0.02). CONCLUSION Evidence suggests that massage therapy is beneficial for treating ADHD in children and adolescents.

Abstract
Rehmanniae radix preparata is extracted from wine-steaming the Rehmannia root, a scrophulariaceae plant. It has been used for thousands of years with effects of nourishing kidney-yin, benefiting essence and filling marrow based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory. Rehmanniae radix preparata has antioxidant, antisenescence, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. It is the most popular Traditional Chinese medicinal compound (TCMC) used in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) therapy. However, few studies have been conducted exploring the effects and potential mechanisms of Rehmanniae radix preparata alone on ADHD. Recent studies have shown that Rehmanniae radix preparata inhibits spontaneous activity in mice, improves learning and memory in rats following thalamic arcuate nucleus injury, and exhibits antidepressant effects. Catalpol, an active component of Rehmanniae radix preparata, elevates brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and attenuates neuronal apoptosis and energy metabolism failure. ADHD is characterized by hyperactivity-impulsivity and impairments in learning and memory. Its pathomechanism is closely related to structural abnormalities in the cortex that is mediated by dysfunction in neuronal development, apoptosis, and energy metabolism. We hypothesize that Rehmanniae radix preparata may be effective at treating ADHD by alleviating neurodevelopmental abnormalities, neuronal apoptosis, and energy metabolism failure.

Abstract
Jingning fang (JNF) is an effective Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which is used for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). To clarify the bioactive constituents of JNF, a Thermo Q Exactive™ Plus Orbitrap™ mass spectrometer was used in this study. More than 127 chemical compounds were isolated and identified tentatively in the JNF extract, while 42 prototype constituents with 4 potential metabolites were identified tentatively in rat plasma. A method for simultaneous determination of polygalaxanthone III (PAIII), sibiricose A5 (A5), sibiricose A6 (A6), 3, 6'-disinapoyl sucrose (3,6'-DISS), tenuifoliside C (TEC), tenuifolin B (TNB), verbascoside (VCE), heterophyllin B (HEB) and schisandrin (SCH) in rat was developed and validated using polydatin (PLN) and psoralen (PSN) as internal standards. All calibration curves proved favorable linearity (R2≥0.9923) in linear ranges. The lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) was 2.5ng/mL for PAIII, A5, 3, 6'-DISS, TNB, VCE, HEB and SCH, 1.0ng/mL for A6 and TEC, respectively. Intra-day and inter-day precisions didn't exceed 14.0% for all the analytes. Extraction recoveries and matrix effects of analytes and IS were acceptable. The validated method has been successfully applied to the pharmacokinetics (PK) studies of the nine compounds in JNF. These findings are useful for predicting the bioactive components of JNF, and will aid in optimizing dose regimens of the drug.
