Abstract
An improvement to Hummers' method involving a cascade-design graphite oxidation reaction is reported to optimize safety and efficiency in the production of graphite oxide (GrO) and graphene oxide (GO). Chemical reduction using highly alkaline ammonia solution is a novel approach to synthesizing reduced graphene oxide (RGO). In this original research, we revisit the oxidation and reduction reactions, providing significant findings regarding the synthetic pathway to obtain a bioinspired water-intercalated hydrogel of RGO nanosheets. Influential factors in the graphite oxidation reaction, typically the exothermic reaction temperature and hydrogen peroxide effect, are described. Furthermore, the chemical reaction of GO reduction using highly alkaline ammonia solution (pH 14) was investigated to produce hydrated RGO nanosheets assembled in a hydrogel structure (97% water). Three-dimensional assembly and water intercalation are key to preserve the non-stacking state of RGO nanosheets. Therefore, ultrasound transmission to aqueous channels in the macroscopic RGO hydrogel vibrated and dispersed the RGO nanosheets in water. Analytical results revealed the single-layer nanostructures, functional groups, optical band gaps, optimized C/O ratios, particle sizes and zeta potentials of GO and RGO nanosheets. The reversible self-assembly of RGO hydrogels is essential for many applications, such as RGO coatings and polymer/RGO nanocomposites. In a water purification application, the RGO hydrogel was dispersed in aqueous solution by simple agitation and showed a high capacity for organic dye adsorption. After the adsorption, the RGO/dye particles were easily removed by filtration through ordinary cellulose paper. The process of adsorption and filtration is effective and inexpensive for practical environmental remediation. In summary, a bioinspired structure of RGO hydrogel is conceptualized for prospective nanotechnology.

Abstract
In this study, we analyzed the impact of hydroxyl and epoxy groups on the properties of graphene oxide (GO) for the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye from water, addressing the urgent need for effective water purification methods due to industrial pollution. Employing a dual approach, we integrated experimental techniques with theoretical modeling via density functional theory (DFT) to examine the atomic structure of GO and its adsorption capabilities. The methodology encompasses a series of experiments to evaluate the performance of GO in MB dye adsorption under different conditions, including differences in pH, dye concentration, reaction temperature, and contact time, providing a comprehensive view of its effectiveness. Theoretical DFT calculations provide insights into how hydroxyl and epoxy modifications alter the electronic properties of GO, improving adsorption efficiency. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in the dye adsorption capacity of GO, attributed to the interaction between the functional groups and MB molecules. This study not only confirms the potential of GO as a superior adsorbent for water treatment, but also contributes to the optimization of GO-based materials for environmental remediation, highlighting the synergy between experimental observations and theoretical predictions in advances in materials science to improve sustainability.

Abstract
In this study carbon adsorbents were produced from caraway (Carum carvi L.) seeds, through direct and physical activation by carbon dioxide. The resulting biochar adsorbents were analyzed using low-temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms and Boehm titration. Furthermore, the acid-base properties of the biochar samples obtained were examined, and the pH of their aqueous extracts was determined. The obtained adsorbents had a specific surface area ranging between 10 to 70 m2 /g. Resulting carbon materials exhibited a predominance of basic groups on their surfaces. The sorption capacities of methyl red for the samples varied from 3 to 20 mg/g. Conducted adsorption studies determined, that the adsorption kinetics of the dye on biochar materials followed a pseudo-second order model and the adsorption process was best described by the Freundlich isotherm, indicating the development of a multi-layer adsorbate on their surfaces. The effectiveness of adsorption in aqueous solutions of methyl red increased with the rise in process temperature. Moreover, the adsorption process was found to be spontaneous and endothermic based on thermodynamic investigations.

Abstract
Proteins are of great importance for medicine and the pharmaceutical and food industries. However, proteins need to be purified prior to their application. This work investigated the application of a hydrogel bionanocomposite based on agar and graphene oxide (GO) for capturing cytochrome C (Cyto C) heme protein by adsorption from aqueous solutions with other proteins. Although applications of GO-based materials in adsorption are widely studied, the focus on semi-continuous processes remains limited. Adsorption experiments were carried out in batch and fixed bed columns. The effect of pH and ionic strength on adsorption was investigated, and there is evidence that electrostatic interactions between Cyto C and the nanocomposite were favoured at pH = 7; the adsorption capacity decreased as NaCl and KCl concentrations increased, ascribed to the weak electrostatic interaction between the protein and GO active sites in the bionanocomposite. All adsorption isotherm models (Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips) used gave suitable adjustments to the equilibrium experimental data and the kinetic models applied. The maximum adsorption capacity predicted by the Langmuir isotherm was ∼400 mgCytoC gadsorbent,dry-1, and the adsorption thermodynamics indicated a physisorption process. Tests were performed to evaluate the co-adsorption in batch, and the composite was effective in adsorbing Cyto C in solution with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and L-phenylalanine. Fixed bed tests were performed, and although protein adsorption onto nanoparticles can be challenging, the Cyto C adsorbed could be successfully recovered after desorption. Overall, the GO-based hydrogel was an effective method for cytochrome C adsorption, exhibiting a notorious potential for applications in protein separation processes.

Abstract
In this study, fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) seeds were used as a precursor to obtain carbon adsorbents through physical activation with carbon dioxide and chemical activation by impregnating the precursor with sodium carbonate. The physical activation involved the carbonization of the precursor at a temperature of 600 °C for 60 min and activation at a temperature of 800 °C for 30 min with carbon dioxide. Chemical activation included impregnation of the precursor with sodium carbonate at a mass ratio of a precursor to activator of 1:2. The mixture was activated in a nitrogen atmosphere with a flow rate at a temperature of 700 °C for 45 min. The resulting biochar samples were washed with 5% hydrochloric acid and subsequently rinsed with boiling distilled water. The biochar adsorbents were characterized using low-temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, Boehm titration, and pH measurements of their aqueous extracts. The specific surface area of the obtained adsorbents ranged from 89 to 345 m2/g. Biochar adsorbents exhibit a predominance of acidic groups over basic groups on their surfaces. The sorption capacities of the obtained samples towards an aqueous solution of methyl red range from 26 to 135 mg/g. Based on adsorption studies, it was found that the adsorption of the dye on the obtained biochar materials follows a pseudo-second-order model. The Freundlich isotherm best describes the studied process, indicating the formation of a multilayer of adsorbate on the adsorbent surface. The efficacy of adsorption in aqueous solutions of methyl red was found to increase with the elevation of the process temperature. Moreover, thermodynamic studies have shown that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. Consequently, this work provides a description of the physicochemical parameters of two biochars obtained by physical and chemical activation of a little-studied precursor-fennel seeds-and studies on their potential use as adsorbents for contaminants from the aqueous phase.

Abstract
Biopolymers such as alginate and gelatin have attracted much attention because of their exceptional adsorption properties and biocompatibility. The magnetic hydrogel beads produced and used in this study had a core structure composed of magnetite nanoparticles and gelatin and a shell structure composed of alginate. The combination of the metal-ion binding ability of alginate and the mechanical strength of gelatin in magnetic hydrogel beads presents a new approach for the removal of metal from water sources. The beads were designed for aluminum removal and fully characterized using various methods, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, microcomputed tomography, and dynamic mechanical analysis. Statistical experimental designs were employed to optimize the parameters of the adsorption and recovery processes. Plackett-Burman Design, Box-Behnken Design, and Central Composite Design were used for identifying the significant factors and optimizing the parameters of the adsorption and recovery processes, respectively. The optimum parameters determined for adsorption are as follows: pH: 4, contact time: 30 min, adsorbent amount: 600 mg; recovery time: reagent 1 M HNO3; and contact time: 40 min. The adsorption process was described by using the Langmuir isotherm model. It reveals a homogeneous bead surface and monolayer adsorption with an adsorption capacity of 5.25 mg g-1. Limit of detection and limit of quantification values were calculated as 4.3 and 14 μg L-1, respectively. The adsorption process was described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, which assumes that chemisorption is the rate-controlling mechanism. Thermodynamic studies indicate that adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic. The adsorbent was reusable for 10 successive adsorption-desorption cycles with a quantitative adsorption of 98.2% ± 0.3% and a recovery of 99.4% ± 2.6%. The minimum adsorbent dose was determined as 30 g L-1 to achieve quantitative adsorption of aluminum. The effects of the inorganic ions were also investigated. The proposed method was applied to tap water and carboy water samples, and the results indicate that magnetic hydrogel beads can be an effective and reusable bioadsorbent for the detection and removal of aluminum in water samples. The recovery values obtained by using the developed method were quantitative and consistent with the results obtained from the inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer.

Abstract
Industrial dye wastewater poses a threat to human health due to its harmful effects, and the treatment of related wastewater is receiving increasing attention. In this paper, the melamine sponge with high porosity and convenient separation was selected as matrix material, and alginate/carboxymethyl cellulose-melamine sponge composite (SA/CMC-MeS) was prepared through crosslinking strategy. Not only does the composite cleverly combined the merits of alginate and carboxymethyl cellulose, it also enhanced the adsorption performance for methylene blue (MB). The adsorption data manifested that the adsorption process of SA/CMC-MeS agreed with the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and theoretical maximum adsorption capacity was 230 mg/g (pH 8). The characterization results demonstrated that the adsorption mechanism was attributed to the electrostatic attraction between the carboxyl anions on the composite and the dye cations in solution. Importantly, SA/CMC-MeS could selectively separate MB from binary dye system and had positive anti-interference ability in the face of coexisting cations. After 5 times of cycles, the adsorption efficiency remained above 75 %. Based on these outstanding practical properties, this material has a potential to solve dye contamination.

Abstract
Wastewater contains organic compounds, including dyes, which have potential risks to the environment. Hence, these compound needs to be eliminated from the aqueous solution. In the present study, chitosan-pectin composite (Cs-Pc) was used as an adsorbent to remove methylene blue dye (MB) from synthetic wastewater. To evaluate the parameters affecting adsorption, including the initial MB concentration, solution pH, contact time, and Cs-Pc dose, batch experiments were carried out. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and pH point of zero charges (pH pzc) were applied for characterizations of Cs-Pc. The optimum conditions were obtained with an initial MB concentration of 50 mg L-1: solution pH ~ 11, Cs-Pc dose: 1.5 g L-1 and 180 min contact time, which caused 97.77% of MB removal. In addition, the removal efficiency of MB was more influenced by pH than by sorbate dose. Also, Cs-Pc had a higher ability to remove MB than chitosan and pectin, probably due to its highly porous structure and rough surfaces that provides active sites and facilitate MB adsorption. The maximum removal efficiency and the adsorption capacity of MB onto Cs-Pc at 500 mg L-1 concentration under optimum conditions were 98.67% and 328.02 mg g-1, respectively. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms were best described by pseudo-second-order and Freundlich equation, respectively. After four times of recycling, the removal efficiency of MB was above 96%. Electrostatic and pi-pi interactions are the main mechanisms for the removal of MB onto the adsorbent. So the application of Cs-Pc is promising for MB removal from polluted solutions not only due to its strong adsorbing capability but also due to its excellent ability to reuse.

Abstract
Contamination of water resources with organic substances like phenolic fungicides is undesirable due to the improvement of living standards, the huge production of chemicals, the heavy consumption of daily chemical products, and the growth of the population. In this study, Co-based zeolitic imidazole framework-67 (ZIF-67(Co)) was synthesized using the "one-pot method," and the best Co-based N-doped magnetic porous carbon (Co-NPC) was prepared by ZIF-67(Co) carbonization in an atmosphere of N2. The materials were tested using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), infrared spectroscopy (IR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), N2 adsorption-desorption, and magnetization analysis. These characterizations indicated that the Co-NPC was successfully prepared. With the original morphology of ZIF-67(Co) crystals, the Co-NPC also has good porosity, magnetic properties, and a large specific surface area. In water, Co-NPC-800 has a good adsorption capacity for triclosan (TCS) and p-chloro-m-xylenol (PCMX), which are kinds of aromatic fungicides. The adsorption of Co-NPC-800 on both reached equilibrium within 3 min, which is in accordance with the quasi-second-order kinetic model. At 298 K, the maximum adsorption capacity of Co-NPC-800 for TCS and PCMX was 163 and 39 mg·g-1, respectively. The adsorption of TCS and PCMX by Co-NPC-800 is a spontaneous endothermic process with reduced entropy. The combination of Co-NPC-800 and phenols come from multiple actions of electrostatic, π-π, and hydrogen bond effects. Moreover, Co-NPC-800 can be regenerated through simple washing and can be reused at least three times by a magnet. The Co-NPC-800 has good porosity, large specific surface area, comparable adsorption capacity, rapid adsorption time, so it could be broadly used in sewage treatments and other environmental fields.

Abstract
The glass particles were coated with Spirulina sp. LEB-18 and bioblends of Spirulina sp. LEB-18/chitosan by casting technique and, afterward, it was verified its potential as adsorbents for basic and acid dyes. Nine Spirulina sp. suspensions with different components were used to coat the glass particles, and in the best condition of coating were prepared the bioblends with chitosan. The coated glass particles with Spirulina sp. and its bioblends with chitosan were applied in adsorption of the allura red (acid) and methylene blue (basic) dyes in a batch operation evaluate the pH effect, and a fixed bed column operation, being evaluated to the removal percentage and adsorption capacity of the column. The glass particles coated with Spirulina sp. applied in batch adsorption showed the highest removal percentages for allura red dye (35 to 45%) at pH 4.0, and for methylene blue dye (35 to 80%) at pH 6.0 and 8.0. In fixed bed column using glass particles coated with bioblends were reached the amount dye of 54.2 mg of adsorbed allura red dye and 60.2 mg of the of adsorbed methylene blue dye, respectively. Moreover, it was found good dye adsorption capacities, around 89 mg g-1, for both dyes, in acidic and basic pH values. Based on these results, these bioblends coated glass particles can be applied as an adsorbent for different types of dyes in adsorption column.

Abstract
Sulfides cannot be completely removed using oxidation due to the production of sulfate. In this work, a reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/Fe3O4 hybrid material was synthesized via a simple in situ chemical method for sulfide removal. The adsorption capacity of RGO/Fe3O4 was evaluated by sulfide removal from aqueous solution, and different experimental parameters including contact time, solution pH, adsorbent dosage, ion strength and temperature were investigated. The equilibrium data were in accordance with the Langmuir linear isotherm with a maximum uptake capacity of 173 mg g-1. The adsorption of sulfide by the RGO/Fe3O4 hybrid material can be attributed to the synergistic effect of both chemical and physical adsorption according to kinetic, adsorption isotherm and thermodynamic studies. The RGO/Fe3O4 material with oxygenated functional groups could convert sulfides to stable elemental sulfur and sulfone organics. The external magnetic field could easily separate the magnetic RGO/Fe3O4 adsorbent from the liquid. This research provides a novel strategy for the green and low-cost treatment of sulfide-containing wastewater by the RGO/Fe3O4 hybrid material.

Abstract
In the present research, magnetic rhamnolipid-Co/Al layered double hydroxide (MR-LDH) was synthesized to uptake methylene blue (MB) and reactive orange 16 (RO16) from aqueous solution. The main parameters, including pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, and initial analyte concentration, were optimized to achieve the best adsorption efficiency. Accordingly, the elimination of MB on MR-LDH is improved in the basic medium due to the electrostatic interactions between the negative charge of MR-LDH and the positive charge of MB dye. In contrast, the acidic medium (pH = 3) was favored for RO16 adsorption because of hydrogen bonding between the protonated form of azo dye and protonated hydroxyl groups at the surface of MR-LDH. The calculated maximum adsorption capacities for MB and RO16 were 54.01 and 53.04 mg/g at 313 K, respectively. The Langmuir model, which assumes monolayer adsorption on the adsorbent surface, provides the best explanation for the adsorption of both dyes (R2 = 0.9991 for MB and R2 = 0.9969 for RO16). Moreover, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model best described the adsorption process for MB (R2 = 0.9970) and RO16 (R2 = 0.9941). The proposed adsorbent maintains stable adsorption performance for four consecutive cycles. After each adsorption process, MR-LDH is easily separated by an external magnet. The findings show that MR-LDH was found to be an excellent adsorbent for the removal of both cationic and anionic organic dyes from aqueous solutions.

Abstract
The zinc sulfide/copper oxide-carbon nanotube nanocomposite (ZnS/CuO-CNT) was fabricated by using an in-situ hydrothermal synthesis method and was used for simultaneous ultrasound-assisted adsorptive removal of a binary mixture of ponceau 4R (P4R) and tartrazine (TA) acid food dyes from contaminated water. The as-synthesized ZnS/CuO-CNT was described by FESEM, XRD, FTIR, BET, and zeta potential analysis. The results included nested network morphology, high purity with the crystalline structure, oxygen-containing functional groups, mesoporous/micropores texture with cumulate interspace, specific surface area of 106.54 m2 g-1, and zero-point charge (pHzpc) of 5.3. In adsorption experiments, the simultaneous effect of main independent variables, including solution pH, adsorbent dosage, concentration of each dye, temperature, and sonication time on the removal efficiency of dyes was studied systematically using the central composite design (CCD) method based on response surface methodology (RSM). Also, the second-order multivariate equation was presented to determine the relationship between the removal efficiencies of P4R and AT dyes and six independent effective variables. The high correlation coefficient (R2 ≥ 0.99), significant p-value (P < 0.0001), and non-significant lack-of-fit (P > 0.05) showed the high accuracy, and validity of the proposed model to predict the removal efficiency of P4R and TA acid food dyes. The experimental removal efficiency for P4R and TA dyes was found to be 98.45 ± 2.54, and 99.21 ± 2.23, respectively. Also, the Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity for P4R and TA dyes was determined to be 190.1 mg g-1 and 183.5 mg g-1, respectively. Finally, the adsorbent's reusability was tested for six periods and could be reused repeatedly without significant reduction in adsorption performance.

Abstract
Ti3C2Tx MXene has attracted considerable interest as a new emerging two-dimensional material for environmental remediation due to its high adsorption capacity. However, its use is greatly limited by its poor mechanical properties, low processability and recyclability, and the low dispersity of such powder materials. In this work, a porous adsorbent (C–CMP) containing cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), Ti3C2Tx MXene and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was prepared by a simple and environmentally-friendly foaming method. Glutaraldehyde was used as crosslinker to improve the mechanical properties and boost the adsorption efficiency of methylene blue (MB) molecules. Fourier transform infrared (FT–IR), elemental analysis (EDX) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) further confirmed that the preparation of the C–CMP foam and cross-linking reaction were successful. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) indicated that the macropores were distributed homogeneously. The adsorption experiment showed that maximum adsorption capacity of MB can reach 239.92 mg·g−1 which was much higher than anionic dye (methyl orange, 45.25 mg·g−1). The adsorption behavior fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. Based on FT–IR, EDX and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, the adsorption mechanism between C–CMP and MB molecules was attributed to electrostatic interaction.

Abstract
The adsorption of naproxen (NAP), diclofenac (DFC), and acetaminophen (APAP) molecules from aqueous solutions using MIL-100-Fe and MIL-101-Fe metal organic frameworks (MOFs) has been analyzed and modeled. Adsorption isotherms of these pharmaceuticals were experimentally quantified at 30 and 40°C and pH 7. Textural parameters and surface chemistry of these MOFs were analyzed, and results were utilized to explain the pharmaceutical adsorption mechanism. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were performed to understand the reactivity of pharmaceutical molecules, and a statistical physics model was employed to calculate the main physicochemical parameters related to the adsorption mechanism. Results showed that the adsorption of these pharmaceuticals on MOFs was multimolecular and exothermic. Both MOFs displayed the highest adsorption capacities, up to 2.19 and 1.71 mmol/g, for NAP and DFC molecules, respectively. MIL-101-Fe showed better pharmaceutical adsorption properties than MIL-100-Fe due to its highest content of Fe-O clusters and mesopore volume. Adsorption mechanism of these organic molecules could involve hydrogen bond, van der Waals forces, and electrostatic interactions with MOF surfaces. In particular, MIL-101-Fe MOF is a promising material to prepare composites with competitive adsorption capacities for facing the water pollution caused by pharmaceutical compounds.

Abstract
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, huge amounts of disposable face masks have been manufactured and used, and these discarded face masks have to be treated. In this study, we propose a simple approach for reusing the nonwoven polyester fabric (NWPF) from disposable face masks. In this approach, NWPF is utilized as a supporter for coating of a layer of graphene oxide/Fe3O4/chitosan (GFC) to form a GFC/NWPF adsorbent at room temperature via a simple spray coating method that does not require any solvent. The specific properties of GFC, NWPF, and the GFC/NWPF adsorbent were analysed via X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. Results showed that the presence of NWPF enhanced the adsorption capacity of GFC towards organic dyes. At high concentrations of the organic dyes, the adsorption efficiency of the GFC/NWPF adsorbent to the dyes reached 100% within 24 h. The adsorption capacity (
) of the GFC/NWPF adsorbent to methylene blue, methyl orange, Congo red, and moderacid red was 54.795, 87.489, 88.573, and 29.010 mg g−1, respectively, which were considerably higher than that of bulk GFC (39.308, 82.304, 52.910, and 21.249 mg g−1, respectively).

Abstract
The removal of dyes from wastewater is an important topic in environmental applications. Methylene blue (MB) is one of the most worrisome compounds, as it is widespread and used in many industrial activities. Adsorption represents an effective technique for the removal of this contaminant. Thermo plasma expanded graphite (TPEG) is an industrial material characterized by a fibrous morphology, a very low density and overlapped graphene layers. TPEG has a higher specific surface compared to conventional thermo-expanded graphite and it can establish effective attractive forces with charged pollutants. These properties make TPEG a very promising adsorbent material. In the present work, TPEG was tested in an innovative multilayer column system to treat MB contaminated solutions. Several batch experiments were carried out by varying pH, initial MB concentration and temperature. The optimal adsorption performance was assessed at pH 11, around which the TPEG assumed the maximum negative charge. Based on these results, the adsorption mechanism appeared to be related mainly to electrostatic interactions. At room temperature, the greatest amount of MB adsorbed on TPEG was detected by treating solutions with an initial concentration of 30 mgMB/L. The temperature increase from 20 to 40 °C caused an enhanced adsorption capacity when concentrations higher than 10 mgMB/L were treated. The adsorption trends were accurately described by a pseudo-second order kinetic law and the adsorption isotherms at 20 and 40 °C were found to follow both the features of Freundlich and Langmuir models. The adsorption capacity was estimated to reach threshold values around 95 mgMB/gTPEG and 265 mgMB/gTPEG at 20 and 40°C, respectively. The Gibbs energy change (ΔG°) was calculated to about -7.80 kJ/mol, which proved that the process is spontaneous from a thermodynamic point of view. Finally, it was verified that TPEG can be efficiently reused 5 times after a simple chemical regeneration phase with HCl.

Abstract
The primary, most obvious parameter indicating water quality is the color of the water. Not only can it be aesthetically disturbing, but it can also be an indicator of contamination. Clean, high-quality water is a valuable, essential asset. Of the available technologies for removing dyes, adsorption is the most used method due to its ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and high efficiency. The adsorption process is influenced by several parameters, which are the basis of all laboratories researching the optimum conditions. The main objective of this review is to provide up-to-date information on the most studied influencing factors. The effects of initial dye concentration, pH, adsorbent dosage, particle size and temperature are illustrated through examples from the last five years (2017-2021) of research. Moreover, general trends are drawn based on these findings. The removal time ranged from 5 min to 36 h (E = 100% was achieved within 5-60 min). In addition, nearly 80% efficiency can be achieved with just 0.05 g of adsorbent. It is important to reduce adsorbent particle size (with Φ decrease E = 8-99%). Among the dyes analyzed in this paper, Methylene Blue, Congo Red, Malachite Green, Crystal Violet were the most frequently studied. Our conclusions are based on previously published literature.

Abstract
Dyes are hazardous compounds commonly found in industrial wastewaters. Efficient and inexpensive removal of dye molecules from the water matrix has been demonstrated by adsorption processes. Magnetic nano-adsorbents, such as metal ferrites, can be efficiently recovered from the reaction mixture after treating the pollutant. Herein, MFe2O4@GO (M = Cu, Co or Ni) was synthesized via solution combustion method for the removal of dye molecules from aqueous solutions. The characteristics of the MFe2O4@GO, including surface area and pore diameter, surface functional groups, and elemental composition, were examined. Methylene blue was used as representative dye pollutant. Batch adsorption results conformed to the Langmuir isotherm. Maximum adsorption capacities of the MFe2O4@GO (M = Cu, Co or Ni) were 25.81, 50.15 and 76.34 mg g-1, respectively. Kinetics of methylene blue adsorption fitted the pseudo-second-order model. Overall, NiFe2O4@GO exhibited the highest adsorbent performance among the graphene-metal ferrites investigated, primarily because of its high specific surface area and presence of mesopores.

Abstract
Graphene and its derivatives, especially graphene oxide (GO), are attracting considerable interest in the fabrication of new adsorbents that have the potential to remove various pollutants that have escaped into the aquatic environment. Herein, the development of GO/chitosan (GO/CS) composites as adsorbent materials is described and reviewed. This combination is interesting as the addition of graphene to chitosan enhances its mechanical properties, while the chitosan hydrogel serves as an immobilization matrix for graphene. Following a brief description of both graphene and chitosan as independent adsorbent materials, the emerging GO/CS composites are introduced. The additional materials that have been added to the GO/CS composites, including magnetic iron oxides, chelating agents, cyclodextrins, additional adsorbents and polymeric blends, are then described and discussed. The performance of these materials in the removal of heavy metal ions, dyes and other organic molecules are discussed followed by the introduction of strategies employed in the regeneration of the GO/CS adsorbents. It is clear that, while some challenges exist, including cost, regeneration and selectivity in the adsorption process, the GO/CS composites are emerging as promising adsorbent materials.

Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the application of graphene oxide (GO) as adsorbent material for the removal of atrazine (ATZ). The material produced was characterized to investigate the characteristics and applied as an adsorbent. The material obtained after the synthesis process presented oxygenated functional groups, which contributed to the development of a good adsorbent material. Studies were carried out to verify the influence of adsorbent material mass and initial pH of ATZ solution in adsorption capacity. Kinetic study determined that pseudo-second-order model best describes adsorbate-adsorbent interaction, with equilibrium time of 72 h. The effect of temperature on the material adsorption capacity was also studied. The Langmuir isotherm is the best fit to describe adsorption process GO-ATZ and maximum adsorption capacity obtained was 23.844 ± 0.694 mg g-1, at 318 K. Variations in process energies were determined, being a spontaneous adsorption, endothermic and characteristic of physical and chemical adsorption. Finally, influence of salts in solution on adsorption capacity was studied; the conclusion was that the presence of electrolytes affects the adsorption capacity of the material.

Abstract
The quality of water is continuously under threat as increasing concentrations of pollutants escape into the aquatic environment. However, these issues can be alleviated by adsorbing pollutants onto adsorbents. Chitosan and its composites are attracting considerable interest as environmentally acceptable adsorbents and have the potential to remove many of these contaminants. In this review the development of chitosan-based adsorbents is described and discussed. Following a short introduction to the extraction of chitin from seafood wastes, followed by its conversion to chitosan, the properties of chitosan are described. Then, the emerging chitosan/carbon-based materials, including magnetic chitosan and chitosan combined with graphene oxide, carbon nanotubes, biochar, and activated carbon and also chitosan-silica composites are introduced. The applications of these materials in the removal of various heavy metal ions, including Cr(VI), Pb(II), Cd(II), Cu(II), and different cationic and anionic dyes, phenol and other organic molecules, such as antibiotics, are reviewed, compared and discussed. Adsorption isotherms and adsorption kinetics are then highlighted and followed by details on the mechanisms of adsorption and the role of the chitosan and the carbon or silica supports. Based on the reviewed papers, it is clear, that while some challenges remain, chitosan-based materials are emerging as promising adsorbents.
