Abstract
Tromethamine (TMM), often encountered in a final drug product, exhibits interesting chemical properties as a counter ion, buffer, or active ingredient. European and US pharmacopeias propose titration against hydrogen chloride for TMM assays. However, this method can be a hindrance when using drugs containing low concentrations of TMM in complex buffered formulations. Due to the lack of chromophores and the high hydrophilicity of TMM, we performed a simple and reliable hydrophilic interaction chromatography coupled with a charged aerosol detector (HILIC-CAD) separation approach as an alternative for TMM analysis. An amide stationary phase and a mobile phase consisting of a binary mixture of acetonitrile and 10 mM ammonium formate, pH 3 (80/20, V/V) were used. As the CAD response deeply depends on parameters such as stationary phases and pH buffer, we investigated their impact and explored the optimal signal conditions. Including TMM analogs such as tris(hydroxymethyl) nitromethane and 2-amino-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol allowed us to select these parameters appropriately. The effects of the evaporation temperature, flow rate, and power function value (PFV) on the CAD signal response were also studied and optimized. The method was validated according to the ICH Q2 R1 guidelines. A linear response (mean R2 > 0.997) covering the range for low TMM concentrations (170-520 μg/mL) was achieved. Satisfactory intra-day and inter-day precisions were obtained with RSDs lower than 1.9% and 2.8%, respectively. The trueness ranged from 99.6% to 101.2%, and the LOD was found to be 1.1 μg/mL. The HILIC-CAD method has been applied to a sterile TMM solution for injection.

Abstract
The development of spray drying technology has been widely used for drying and preservation of food products. Though infant milk powder iron fortification is necessary for infants and children, iron fortification is accompanied by some limitations that reduce its quality and oxidation of Fe2+ into Fe3+, causing sensory problems and even a decrease in iron absorption, which does not meet the normal requirements of infant and child body development. To overcome this adverse effect and to improve the bioavailability of iron, a spray drying method was used to simulate the milk powder production process by codrying a mixture of ascorbic acid and ferrous sulfate, where ascorbic acid was uniformly coated on the outer layer of ferrous sulfate. It was demonstrated that ascorbic acid had a very obvious inhibitory effect on the oxidation of ferrous iron and could maintain the stability of ferrous iron in solid and solution for a long time, thus improving the bioavailability of iron.

Abstract
Cyclodextrin-modified micellar ultra pressure liquid chromatography (CD-MUPLC) was firstly developed and directly applied to the simultaneous determination of water-soluble vitamins thiamine hydrochloride (VB1), pyridoxine hydrochloride (VB6) and ascorbic acid (VC) in milk samples. A hybrid isocratic mobile phase consisting of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD, 5.0 mmol L-1) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB, 0.1 mol L-1) in the presence of acetic acid (0.1 mol L-1) at pH 2.9 on a RP-C18 column at 25.0°C was successfully used. The separation of vitamins was achieved in less than 10 min at a 0.2 mL min-1 flow rate showing adequate linearity at 245 nm in the ranges of 5.0-500.0 μg L-1 for VB1, 5.0-1000.0 μg L-1 for VB6 and 5.0-10000.0 μg L-1 for VC with coefficients of variation (r2) of 0.9999, 0.9987 and 0.9971, respectively. In addition, limits of detection obtained were 0.885, 1.352 and 1.358 μg L-1 and limits of quantification were 2.681, 4.096 and 4.115 μg L-1 for VB1, VB6 and VC, respectively. The high sensitivity of the proposed CD-MUPLC-UV method permitted its applications to the determination of water-soluble vitamins VB1 (32-488 μg L-1), VB6 (82-95 μg L-1) and VC (790-45000 μg L-1) in breast and bovine milk samples. The relative standard deviations and recoveries ranged between 0.07 and 2.14% and between 85.27 and 114.8%, respectively, indicating the accurate and precise measurements without any negative impact of matrix. The current analytical method illustrated several advantages including direct, sensitive, selective and non-consuming organic solvents over the hitherto published methods. These features could be attributed to the four-point competitive interactions among analytes, pseudostationary phases and modified C18 stationary phases.

Abstract
Milk is a good source of quality fats, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins. Determining milk constituents is very important in dairy production and is usually conducted by means of physical or chemical processes in laboratories. These methods are time-consuming and cannot satisfy the need in practice. Developing simple, quick, cost-effective, reliable, and sensitive methods on the detection of main constituents in milk is useful for dairy farmers, manufacturers and consumers. In last decades, many rapid detection techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, dielectric properties, and sensors, have emerged and shown great potential in the detection of main constituents in liquid milk. In this review, the rapid detection techniques applied to determine the main constituents in milk have been reviewed. Meanwhile, the potential advantages and limitations of these techniques and recommendations for future research have also been proposed.

Abstract
With the increase in the number of medicines patients have to take, there has been a rapid rise of fixed-dose combinations (FDCs) in the last two decades. Prior to FDC development, pharmacokinetic properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) have to be evaluated, as well as methods for their determination developed. So as to increase patient compliance in inflammatory bowel disease, three novel FDCs of thiopurine immunosuppressants and folic acid are proposed; physico-chemical and pharmacokinetic properties such as hydrophobicity, lipophilicity and plasma protein binding of all APIs are evaluated. Moreover, experimental results of different properties are compared to those computed by various on-line prediction platforms so as to evaluate the viability of the in silico approach. A simultaneous method for their determination is developed, optimized, validated and applied to commercial tablet formulations. The method has shown to be fast, selective, accurate and precise, showing potential for reliable determination of API content in proposed FDCs during its development.

Abstract
Vitamins are a class of essential nutrients in the body; thus, they play important roles in human health. The chemicals are involved in many physiological functions and both their lack and excess can put health at risk. Therefore, the establishment of methods for monitoring vitamin concentrations in different matrices is necessary. In this review, an updated overview of the main pretreatments and determination methods that have been used since 2010 is given. Ultrasonic assisted extraction, liquid–liquid extraction, solid phase extraction and dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction are the most common pretreatment methods, while the determination methods involve chromatography methods, electrophoretic methods, microbiological assays, immunoassays, biosensors and several other methods. Different pretreatments and determination methods are discussed.

Abstract
A novel green synthesis strategy was proposed for preparation of multitemplate molecularly imprinted biopolymers (mt-MIBP) in aqueous media with less consumption of organic solvents, which were subsequently used as sorbents of ultrasound-assisted dispersive solid-phase extraction (d-SPE) for simultaneous recognition and efficient separation of B-family vitamins in juice samples, followed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) determination. The obtained mt-MIBP was fully characterized by SEM, FT-IR, TEM, and BET. It offered high binding capacity, good selectivity, and fast dynamics toward all the templates. Involved parameters in the d-SPE efficiency such as mt-MIBP mass, sonication time, and eluting/washing solvents' types and volumes were concurrently investigated by central composite design with rapidity and reliability. Under the optimum conditions, the developed mt-MIBP-d-SPE-HPLC method exhibited wide linear range, low limits of detection and quantification (LOQs) within 1.2-5.5 μg L-1 and 4.0-18.4 μg L-1, respectively, and appropriate repeatability (relative standard deviation values below 4.2%, n = 4). The high selectivity of this method makes it suitable for successful monitoring of vitamins in juice samples with satisfactory recoveries of 75.8-92.7%, 81.1-92.5%, and 84.7-93.8% for vitamins riboflavin (B2), nicotinamide (B3), and pyridoxine (B6), respectively. The present study implied highly promising perspectives of water-compatible eco-friendly mt-MIBP for highly effective multiresidue analysis in complicated matrixes.

Abstract
A nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic method was tested to control 12 vitamins and accompanying substances in multivitamin preparations. The limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantification (LOQs) varied in the 9.0-77.0 mg/kg and in the 34.5-93.5 mg/kg range, respectively. The coefficients of variation (CVs) ranged between 0.9% and 12%. The (1)H NMR spectra showed linearity for the 140-260 mg sample weight (R(2) > 0.918). The NMR spectra of multivitamin preparations showed the presence of different degradation products of ascorbic acid. The NMR method was applied to 13 different multivitamin preparations including tablets, capsules, and effervescent tablets with average recovery rates between 85% and 132%. A number of accompanying substances (citric acid, mannitol, saccharin, cyclamate, sum of steviol glycosides, and butylhydroxytoluene) were additionally identified and quantified. NMR was found to be suitable for the simultaneous qualitative measurement of water- and fat-soluble vitamins and accompanying substances and shows some promise for quantitative determination of at least 5 vitamins (B1, B3, B5, B6, and E) in multivitamin preparations.

Abstract
Vitamins are essential for improving and maintaining human health, and the main source of vitamins is the diet. Measurement of the quantities of water-soluble vitamins in common food materials is important to understand the impact of vitamin intake on human health, and also to provide necessary information for regulators to determine adequate intakes. Liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS) based methods for water-soluble vitamin analysis are abundant in the literature, but most focus on only fortified foods or dietary supplements or allow determination of only a single vitamin. In this work, a method based on LC/MS and LC/MS/MS has been developed to allow simultaneous quantitation of eight water-soluble vitamins, including multiple forms of vitamins B3 and B6, in a variety of fortified and unfortified food-matrix Standard Reference Materials (SRMs). Optimization of extraction of unbound vitamin forms and confirmation using data from external laboratories ensured accuracy in the assigned values, and addition of stable isotope labeled internal standards for each of the vitamins allowed for increased precision.
