Abstract
In this work, we test metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as sorbents in the solid-phase extraction (SPE) technique to determine chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and their related compounds in water samples. During this study, we used 13 target compounds to test the selectivity of MOFs thoroughly. Three MOFs were used: MIL-100(Fe), ZIF-8(Zn), and UiO-66(Zr). The obtained materials were characterized using FT-IR/ATR, SEM, and XRD. CWA's and related compounds were analyzed using gas chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). The effect of the type of elution solvent and the amount of sorbent (MOFs) in the column on the efficiency of the conducted extraction were verified. The LOD ranged from 0.04 to 7.54 ng mL-1, and the linearity range for the analytes tested extended from 0.11/22.62 (depending on the compound) to 1000 ng mL-1. It was found that MOFs showed the most excellent selectivity to compounds having aromatic rings in their structure or a "spread" spatial structure. The best recoveries were obtained for DPAA, CAP, and malathion. Environmental water samples collected from the Baltic Sea were analyzed using an optimized procedure to verify the developed method's usefulness.

Deciphering the relationship between the ordered pore structure and solid-phase microextraction behavior of covalent organic frameworks for phenols. JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2024; 467:133764. Abstract
The extraction performance of materials is highly related to their physical structure. However, the precise impact of ordered pore structure in covalent organic frameworks (COFs) on extraction performance are still puzzling. To look insight into this, a series of COFs with varying degrees of ordered pore structures were prepared at room temperature by adjusting reaction time and their extraction efficiencies toward phenolic compounds were investigated. The experimental results revealed that the COF with a short range ordered pore structure exhibited a higher affinity for phenolic compounds along with a larger enrichment factor, while the COF with a long range ordered pore structure demonstrated faster extraction kinetics. The investigation into interaction mechanism revealed that the density of available sites is responsible for these differences. Taking COF-OMe-0.5 h as solid-phase microextraction fiber coating, a highly efficient and sensitive quantitative analysis method for phenolic compounds was established by combining it with gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The established method boasts high enrichment factors (7192-29440), wide linear ranges (2.0-10000 ng L-1), and low detection limits (0.24-0.54 ng L-1). This study provides a conceptual guide for constructing desirable COFs with controlled pore structures for specific applications.

Metal-organic frameworks as solid-phase microextraction adsorbents for the determination of triacetone triperoxide by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Forensic Sci Int 2023; 352:111852. Abstract
Triacetone triperoxide (TATP) is a high-power explosive which is often used by criminals. The detection of TATP is of great significance for solving the explosion cases. However, the preconcentration and analysis of trace levels of TATP still pose challenges for analytical researchers. In this study, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), including IRMOF-8, MOF-5, UIO-66, ZIF-8, and MIL-101(Cr), were immobilized on a stainless steel wire using a physical adhesive method as a solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coating. The prepared fibers with a controllable thickness were used for the extraction of TATP followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Under the identical experimental conditions, the IRMOF-8-coated fiber exhibited higher extraction efficiency for TATP than the other fibers. The IRMOF-8-coated fiber was then characterized using scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicated that the IRMOF-8-coated fiber not only had good thermal and chemical stabilities but also afforded a high TATP extraction efficiency. Under the same extraction conditions, the extraction efficiency of the IRMOF-8-coated fiber was 2-8 times higher than those of commercial fibers. The limit of detection was 13 ng/mL, and linearity was observed in the range of 50-5000 ng/mL with a correlation coefficient greater than 0.998. The intraday repeatability (n = 6), interday repeatability (n = 3), and fiber-to-fiber reproducibility (n = 3), were 4.1 %, 4.8 %, and 8.0 %, respectively. The recoveries of TATP from the simulated tap water and soil samples were 87.32-90.57 % and 88.76-100.93 %, respectively, with relative standard deviations lower than 11.11 % (n = 3). The above method was successfully applied for the detection of TATP transferred from a finger to a paper surface, demonstrating its good application prospects in the analysis of trace TATP.

Abstract
In view of the environmental pollution caused by the widespread use of reactive dyes in the printing and dyeing industry, the modified cotton fabric was loaded with the extremely stable metal-organic frame (MOF) material UiO-66 for removing reactive dyes from colored wastewater. UiO-66/cotton fabric was prepared by in situ synthesis, and its surface morphology and structure were analyzed by XRD, SEM, BET, and XPS. The adsorption performance of UiO-66/cotton fabric on reactive dyes was investigated by adsorbent dosage, adsorption time and temperature, dye concentration, pH, and so on. The results indicated that the adsorption equilibrium time of UiO-66/cotton fabric on reactive orange 16 was 120 min, and the removal rate was about 98%. The adsorption process belongs to simple molecular layer chemisorption and can be regarded as a spontaneous heat absorption reaction, which was consistent with the proposed secondary kinetic model and Langmuir isothermal adsorption model. In addition, the reactive dyes with a higher molecular weight of each sulfonic acid group are more hydrophobic, and the dyes are more likely to aggregate and deposit on the adsorbent surface by electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and π-π accumulation. Therefore, this work provides a potential UiO-66/cotton fabric application for the effective adsorption of reactive dyes in textile wastewater.

Abstract
Detecting and analyzing of the trace organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in the real water has become a big challenge. In this work, a novel functional electrospun nanofiber membrane (PAN@COFs) was synthesized through the in situ growth of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) on a polyacrylonitrile electrospun nanofiber membranes under room temperature and used in the solid-phase micro-extraction (SPME) to enrich trace organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in water. The resulted PAN@COFs composite consisted of numerous nanofibers coated ample porous COFs spheres (~ 500 nm) and owned stable crystal structure, abundant functional groups, good stability. In addition, the enrichment experiments clearly revealed that PAN@COFs exhibited rather outstanding performance on adsorbing the trace OCPs (as low as 10 ng L-1) with the enrichment of 482-2686 times. Besides, PAN@COFs displayed good reusability and could be reused 100 times. Notably, in the real water samples (sea water and river water), the high enrichment factors and recovery rates strongly confirmed the feasibility of PAN@COFs for detecting the trace OCPs. Furthermore, due to the synergy of π-π stacking interaction and hydrophobic interaction between the OCPs molecules and PAN@COFs, the OCPs could be efficiently adsorbed on PAN@COFs, even under the extremely low driving force.

Abstract
The determination of trace metals and organic contaminants in environmental samples, such as water, air, soil, and sediment, is until today a challenging process for the analytical chemistry. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are novel porous nanomaterials that are composed of metal ions and an organic connector. These materials are gaining more and more attention due to their superior characteristics, such as high surface area, tunable pore size, mechanical and thermal stability, luminosity, and charge transfer ability between metals and ligands. Among the various applications of MOFs are gas storage, separation, catalysis, and drug delivery. Recently, MOFs have been successfully introduced in the field of sample preparation for analytical chemistry and they have been used for sample pretreatment of various matrices. This review focuses on the applications of MOFs as novel adsorbents for the extraction of organic compounds from environmental samples.

Abstract
A new, simple, hyphenated technique couples supercritical fluid extraction and direct immersion SPME with GC-FID (SFE-DI-SPME-GC-FID) for the determination of 2-furaldehyde (2-F) and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) in solid foods. A bimetal-organic framework-polypyrrole composite was grown in situ on stainless steel wire in solution and used as a novel solid phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coating. A central composite design based on a 2n-1 fractional factorial experimental design was employed to optimize the SFE conditions for 2-F and 5-HMF at a pressure of 325 atm, temperature of 35 °C, dynamic extraction time of 15 min, and modifier volume of 150 μL. Also, the factors related to the solid-phase microextraction method including ionic strength, desorption time and temperature together with extraction time and temperature were optimized prior to the gas chromatography analysis. Under the optimal conditions, the limits of detection were in the range of 1.28-5.92 μg kg-1. This method showed good linearity for 2-F and 5-HMF in the ranges of 40-50 000 and 4540-500 000 μg kg-1, respectively, with coefficients of determination more than 0.9995. Single fiber repeatability and fiber-to-fiber reproducibility were less than 6.76% and 9.12%, respectively. The new method was successfully utilized to determine the amounts of 2-F and 5-HMF in the real solid food matrix without the need for tedious pretreatments.

Abstract
Herein, we synthesized a kind of magnetic covalent organic framework nanohybrids (NiFe2O4@COF), and integrated it with polydimethyl siloxane and silicone rubber curing agent for solid phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coating. The fiber coating demonstrated a porous and uniform surface with the BET specific surface of 169.7 m2 g-1. As for seven environmental analytes, the NiFe2O4@COF-based SPME fiber coating gave the higher extraction recoveries for triclosan (TCS) and methyltriclosn (MTCS) than those of fenpropathrin, bifenthrin, permethrin, fenvalerate and deltamethrin. Several operational parameters were rigorously optimized, such as extraction temperature, extraction time, thermal desorption time, solution pH and salt effect. Combined with the GC-ECD detection, the newly developed microextraction method supplied the wide linear range of 0.1-1000 µg L-1 with the correlation coefficients of > 0.9995. The limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantitation (LOQs) reached as low as 1-7 ng L-1 and 3.3-23 ng L-1, respectively. The intra-day and inter-day precisions in six replicates (n = 6 ) were < 3.55% and < 5.06%, respectively, and the fiber-to-fiber reproducibility (n = 3) was < 7.64%. To evaluate its feasibility in real samples, the fortified recoveries for TCS and MTCS, at low (0.2 µg L-1), middle (2.0 µg L-1) and high (20.0 µg L-1) levels, varied between 81.9% and 119.1% in tap, river and barreled waters as well as male, female and children urine samples. Especially, it is worth mentioning that the NiFe2O4@COF-based SPME coating fiber can be recycled for at least 150 times with nearly unchanged extraction efficiency. Moreover, the extraction recoveries by the as-fabricated fiber coating were much higher than those by three commercial fibers (PDMS, PDMS/DVB and PDMS/DVB/CAR). Overall, the NiFe2O4@COF-based SPME is a convenient, sensitive, efficient and "green" pretreatment method, thereby possessing important application prospects in trace monitoring of TCS-like pollutants in complex liquid matrices.

Abstract
Herein, the preparation of UiO-66 on frosted glass rod (FGR) was proposed through the coordination interaction of Zr-OH groups and carboxyl sites on FGR. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of intra-batch and inter-batch were below 8.0% (n = 7). UiO-66-modified FGR (UiO-66@FGR) was applied to the extraction and monitoring of five non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) by coupling to novel bar sorptive extraction (BSE) with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC). Sample volume, stirring rate, extraction time, sample pH value, desorption solvent, and desorption time were investigated. NSAIDs (ketoprofen, flurbiprofen, ibuprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac sodium) were determined at a low limit of detection (0.92 ng/mL) over a wide linear range (10-1500 ng/mL). The developed method was used to analyze NSAIDs in sheep muscle, chicken wing, and milk with recoveries of 80.8%-117.2%, RSDs < 6.5%. Fabricated UiO-66@FGR exhibited excellent reproducibility, stability, and good adsorption property towards NSAIDs in food samples.

Abstract
Nanoporosity, crystal structure, good thermal and mechanical stability, high surface-to-volume ratio, nanoscale cavities, and uniform pore topology have made metal-organic frameworks one of the best class of sorbents for adsorption/separation purposes. In this research, a metal-organic framework/polyaniline magnetite nanocomposite was synthesized and intercalated by polyaniline by electrophoretic deposition on the surface of a thin steel wire, to prepare a solid-phase microextraction fiber. It was coupled with gas chromatography-flame ionization detection and employed for the extraction and determination of aldehydes in biological samples. The magnetic nanocomposite was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the calibration curves were linear in the range of 0.01-1 and 0.1-1 µg/L for hexanal and heptanal, respectively. The limits of detections for hexanal and heptanal were 0.001 and 0.01 µg/L, respectively. Intrafiber repeatability for six replicate analyses of 0.2 µg/L of the analytes was over the range 3.5-7.1%. Interfiber (fiber-to-fiber) reproducibility, calculated by six replicate analyses of the same concentration using three different fibers, and was found to be 10.4-15.7%. The developed procedure was successfully utilized for the analysis of hexanal and heptanal in human plasma and urine samples.

Abstract
In this study, development of a needle trap device (NTD) packed with UiO-66 adsorbent was used for the sampling of the aromatic amine compounds (including aniline, N,N-dimethylaniline and o-toluidine) followed by gas chromatography (GC) with flame-ionization detector (FID) analysis. The UiO-66 sorbent was synthesized and then packed inside a spinal needle (Gauge 22). The synthesized sorbent was characterized with the XRD, FE-SEM, EDS and FT-IR techniques. This study was conducted both in the laboratory and in the real samples. In the laboratory, the sampling parameters (such as temperature and humidity) and desorption parameters (including desorption temperature and desorption time) were optimized using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) by Central Composite Design (CCD). The results indicated that the performance of the sampling device decreased with increasing the sampling humidity and temperature. Moreover, the highest peak area responses of the studied analytes were observed at a desorption time of 3 minutes and desorption temperature of 270 °C. The values of the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) were in the range 0.01-0.02 and 0.03-0.05 ng mL-1, respectively. Our findings demonstrated that NTD packed with synthesized UiO-66 has good repeatability (RSD = 1.3-6.8%) and acceptable reproducibility (with three NTDs) (RSD = 1.3-9.7%). Comparison of the results between NTD-UiO-66 and NIOSH2002 showed a sufficient correlation (0.98-0.99) between two methods. Therefore, the results indicated that the NTD packed with the UiO-66 adsorbent can be used as a powerful technique for occupational and environmental monitoring.

Abstract
A layered porous organic framework (L-POF) with high surface area and porous volume was used as a novel adsorbent for adsorption of chlorophenols (CPs). The L-POF showed much higher adsorption capacity for four CPs (2-CP, 3-CP, 2,3-CP, 2,4-CP) compared with corresponding amorphous POF and some commercial adsorbents. Then, an L-POF-based solid-phase extraction method combined with high-performance liquid chromatography for analyzing CPs at the wavelength of 280 nm in water and honey samples was established. Under the optimum conditions, four CPs exhibited good linearity in the range 0.10-80.0 ng mL-1 for water and 2-400 ng g-1 for honey samples with determination coefficient r2 > 0.996. The method has low limits of detection of 0.03-0.10 ng mL-1 for water and 0.5-1.0 ng g-1 for honey samples. The method presented satisfactory precision and accuracy with relative standard deviations ≤ 7.8% and recoveries of 80-115%. High enrichment factors of 123-190 for water and 63-97 for honey were obtained. The validated method was successfully used to determine CPs in water and honey samples. The L-POF also displayed prominent adsorption performance for many other dyes and organic contaminants. This suggests that it can be an ideal candidate as adsorbent for wide application in separation and analysis. Graphical Abstract.

Abstract
A versatile organic-inorganic hybrid structure makes a metal-organic framework (MOF) an outstanding host for different kinds of guests; in addition, its easy pyrolysis nature has been proven to be useful as precursors in the construction of carbon-based materials with a special porous structure. Herein, a novel porous composite nanostructure of an aminated MIL-53(Al)@carbon nanotube (CNT) has been successfully constructed for the first time based on in situ synthesis combining the pyrolysis of ZIF-67. The resulting composite nanostructure was performed by the means of scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis, typical and high-resolution transmission electronic microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, etc. The results showed that a compact heterostructure has been formed between an aminated MIL-53(Al) and a CNT. The resulting composites, named N-MIL@CNT, represent distinct promoted activities in the removal of Bisphenol AF (BPAF) and Metribuzin from wastewater, and the maximum adsorption values were 274 mg/g (BPAF) and 213 mg/g (Metribuzin), which are larger than the results obtained by other MOF-based nanomaterials. The adsorption isotherm, kinetics, and thermodynamics were studied in detail, and the selective adsorption mechanism was also suggested. The excellent selectivity, reusability, and structure stability suggest the potential application of this composite nanostructure in the selective removal of BPAF or Metribuzin from the practical wastewater.

Abstract
We developed a novel method of needle trap device packed with titanium-based metal-organic framework for the extraction of phenolic derivatives in air followed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detector analysis. The synthetized adsorbent was packed inside a 22-gauge spinal needle. This method was first tested at laboratory scale, and then was used for field sampling of phenolic derivatives in air. A glass chamber placed on a heater at 60°C was used to provide different concentrations of phenolic derivatives. The desorption conditions and breakthrough volume were optimized using response surface methodology. The limit of detection and limit of quantitation of the proposed method were estimated to be in the range of 0.001-0.12 and 0.003-0.62 ng/mL, respectively, indicating a high sensitivity for the suggested sampler. Storing the packed needle trap device in a refrigerator at 4˚C for 60 days did not dramatically affect the storage stability. Our findings indicated that there was a high correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.99) between the measurement results of this method and the NIOSH recommended method (XAD-7 sorbent tube). Therefore, it can be concluded that the needle trap device packed with titanium-based metal-organic framework can be used as a efficient method for extraction of phenolic derivatives in air.

Abstract
This work proposes an application of amine-functionalized metal-organic framework (NH2-MIL-101(Fe)) as sorbent for dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (D-μSPE) of ten priority phenolic pollutants. The sorbent was simply synthesized under facile condition. The entire D-μSPE process was optimized by studying the effect of experimental parameters affecting the extraction recovery of the target analytes. The final extract was analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detector. Under the optimum condition, the proposed procedure can be applied for wide linear calibration ranges between 1.25–5000 μg L−1 with the correlation coefficients of greater than 0.9900. The limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantitation (LOQs) were in the ranges of 0.4–9.5 μg L−1 and 1.25–30 μg L−1, respectively. The precision evaluated in terms of the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the intra- and inter-day determinations of the phenol compounds at their LOQ concentrations were below 13.9% and 12.2%, respectively. High enrichment factors up to 120 were reached. The developed method has been successfully applied to determine phenol residues in environmental water samples. The satisfactory recoveries obtained by spiking phenol standards at two different concentrations (near LOQs and 5 times as high as LOQs) ranged from 68.4–114.4%. The results demonstrate that the NH2-MIL-101(Fe) material is promising sorbent in the D-μSPE of phenolic pollutants.

Abstract
Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted recently considerable attention in analytical sample preparation, particularly when used as novel sorbent materials in solid-phase microextraction (SPME). MOFs are highly ordered porous crystalline structures, full of cavities. They are formed by inorganic centers (metal ion atoms or metal clusters) and organic linkers connected by covalent coordination bonds. Depending on the ratio of such precursors and the synthetic conditions, the characteristics of the resulting MOF vary significantly, thus drifting into a countless number of interesting materials with unique properties. Among astonishing features of MOFs, their high chemical and thermal stability, easy tuneability, simple synthesis, and impressive surface area (which is the highest known), are the most attractive characteristics that makes them outstanding materials in SPME. This review offers an overview on the current state of the use of MOFs in different SPME configurations, in all cases covering extraction devices coated with (or incorporating) MOFs, with particular emphases in their preparation.

Abstract
In order to effectively clean oily seawater with anionic polyacrylamide (APAM), UiO-66 coated γ-Al2O3 (UA) composites were firstly synthesized using γ-Al2O3 as a template to induce the growth of high hydrophilic UiO-66 on its surface to form a uniform UA self-assembled membrane. The UA composites and self-assembled membrane were characterized and analyzed. Also, the membrane performance was investigated. The results show that the hydrophilicity of particles is enhanced with the water contact angle decreasing from 39.8° (γ-Al2O3 particles) to 26.2° (UA composites) by introducing the UiO-66 coating. Moreover, the UA self-assembled membrane performs attractive water yield and separation performance. The oil concentration in the permeate treated by the first class of UA self-assembled membrane declines apparently from 91.22 to 18.90 mg L−1, while the water yield is as high as 657.89 L m−2 h−1. The reclaimed separation experiments show that the membrane materials could be recycled by calcination at 200 °C and hydraulic cleaning, which gives the material potential application in cleaning oily seawater. The self-assembled membrane manufactured by UA composites exhibits excellent separation performance and water yield in the treatment of oily seawater.![]()
