Abstract
The CO2-based reversible ionic liquid solution of 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine (TMG) and ethylene glycol (EG) in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) after capturing CO2, (2[TMGH]+[O2COCH2CH2OCO2]2-/DMSO (χRILs = 0.1), provides a sustainable and effective platform for cellulose dissolution and homogeneous utilization. Highly porous cellulose aerogel beads and monoliths were successfully prepared via a sol-gel process by extruding cellulose solution into different coagulation baths (NaOH aqueous solution or alcohols) and exposing the cellulose solution in open environment, respectively, and followed by different drying techniques, including supercritical CO2-drying, freeze-drying and air-drying. The effect of the coagulation baths and drying protocols on the multi-scale structure of the as-prepared cellulose aerogel beads and monoliths were studied in detail, and the sol-gel transition mechanism was also studied by the solvatochromic parameters determination. High specific surface area of 252 and 207 m2/g for aerogel beads and monoliths were achieved, respectively. The potential of cellulose aerogels in dye adsorption was demonstrated.

Abstract
Aerogels present a huge potential for removing organic dyes from printing and dyeing wastewater (PDW). However, the preparation of aerogels with multiple dye adsorption capabilities remains a challenge, as many existing aerogels are limited to adsorbing only a single type of dye. Herein, a composite aerogel (CG/T-rGO) with the addition of carboxymethyl chitosan, gelatin and tannic acid reduced graphene oxide (T-rGO) was synthesized by freeze-drying technology. The electrostatic interactions between dye molecular and GEL/CMCS (CG) networks, as well as the supramolecular interactions (H-bonds, electrostatic interactions and π-π stacks) between T-rGO, have endowed the aerogel with the ability to adsorb multiple types of dye, such as methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO). Results exhibited that the prepared CG/T-rGO aerogel possessed strong mechanical strength and a porous 3D network structure with a porosity of 96.33 %. Using MB and MO as adsorbates, the adsorption capacity (88.2 mg/g and 66.6 mg/g, respectively) and the mechanism of the CG/T-rGO aerogel were investigated. The adsorption processes of aerogel for MB and MO were shown to follow the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model, indicating the chemical adsorption of a monolayer. The proposed aerogel in this work has promising prospects for dye removal from PDW.

Abstract
Methylene blue (MB) is a prevalent pollutant in organic wastewater. For this research, eucalyptus wood was used as a template, into which quartz powder dissolved in NaOH was grown, resulting in a low-cost and efficient porous silica adsorbent material (PSAM). This PSAM successfully replaces expensive materials for MB removal from water. Through the application of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, it became evident that PSAM displays a porous slit pore structure characterized by numerous active sites, leading to an impressive maximum specific surface area of 88.05 m²/g. The central objective of this research was to investigate the impact of experimental temperature, initial dye concentration, and pH on the adsorption process. The adsorption kinetics were analyzed using the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models, as well as the Langmuir model. Remarkably, PSAM exhibited a substantial maximum adsorption capacity of 90.01 mg/g at 293 K, achieving an adsorption rate of over 85% within a mere 10-minute timeframe. The thermodynamic analysis revealed that the adsorption of MB onto PSAM was characterized by spontaneity and accompanied by heat absorption. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and SEM comparisons of PSAM before and after adsorption indicated that MB adsorption primarily occurred through electrostatic gravitational binding. In comparison to other adsorbents, PSAM exhibited exceptional efficacy in removing MB from water.

Abstract
The spatial spin modulated structure (SSMS) of the cycloid type present in bulk BiFeO3 prevents the linear magnetoelectric effect. One way to influence this structure is to reduce the crystal size to the nanoscale. Various opinions are circulating in the literature about the effect of nanocrystal size on SSMS, and to investigate this issue, we used a number of methods, with zero-field NMR (ZF NMR) spectroscopy at the forefront. ZF NMR spectroscopy enables the direct observation of the distribution profile of local fields on iron atoms and defines the SSMS presence and its properties. We also examined the synthesized samples using XRD, TEM, and magnetometry. We conclude that SSMS persists as the nanocrystal size decreases to the cycloid period and less, becoming more harmonic. This is accompanied by the change of the anisotropy type from an "easy axis" to an "easy plane". Magnetic measurements show a significant increase in the saturation magnetization, remanent magnetization, coercivity, and exchange bias of nanocrystals with sizes close to the cycloid period, which is probably associated with incomplete spin compensation in the case of an incomplete cycloid period. Despite the fact that SSMS is retained in the samples with decreased size, the magnetic properties experience a sharp increase up to applicable values.

Abstract
The adsorption isotherms of azo dyes on a newly synthesized titania-doped silica (TdS) aerogel compared to silica aerogels and activated charcoal (AC) are systematically investigated. Monolithic TdS aerogels were synthesized by the cogelation process followed by supercritical drying of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a gel precursor and titanium(IV) isopropoxide (TTIP) as a metal complex precursor for co-polymerization in ethanol solvent. An acid-base catalyst was used for the hydrolysis and condensation of TEOS and TTIP. The effect of Ti4+ doping in a silica aerogel on the mesoporous structure and the adsorption capacity of methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV) dyes were evaluated from the UV-vis absorption spectra. In order to compare the adsorption isotherms, the surface areas of silica and TdS aerogels were first normalized with respect to AC, as adsorption is a surface phenomenon. The azo dye equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed using different isotherm equations and found to follow the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacities for the adsorbent TdS aerogel normalized with the AC of the Langmuir isotherm are 131.58 and 159.89 mg/g for MB and CV dyes, respectively. From the Langmuir curve fitting, the Q max value of the TdS aerogel was found to increase by 1.22-fold compared to AC, while it increased 1.25-1.53-fold compared to the silica aerogel. After four cycles, regeneration efficiency values for MB and CV dyes are about 84 and 80%, respectively. The study demonstrates the excellent potential and recovery rate of silica and TdS aerogel adsorbents in removing dyes from wastewater. The pore volume and average pore size of the new aerogel, TdS, were found to be lower than those of the silica aerogel. Thus, a new TdS aerogel with a high capacity of adsorption of azo dyes is successfully achieved.

Abstract
Industrial effluents and wastewater treatment have been a mainstay of environmental preservation and remediation for the last decade. Silica nanoparticles (SiO2) obtained from rice husk (RH) are an alternative to producing low-cost adsorbent and agriculture waste recovery. One adsorption challenge is facilitating the adsorbate separation and reuse cycle from aqueous medium. Thus, the present work employs SiO2 supported on polylactic acid (PLA) nanofibers obtained by the electrospinning method for Rhodamine B (RhB) dye adsorption. The silica surface was modified with trimethylsilyl chloride (TMCS) to increase affinity towards organic compounds. As a result, the silanized surface of the silica from rice husk (RHSil) promoted an increase in dye adsorption attributed to the hydrophobic properties. The PLA fibers containing 40% SiO2 (w w-1) showed about 85-95% capacity adsorption. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model was demonstrated to be the best model for PLA:SiO2 RHSil nanocomposites, exhibiting a 1.2956 mg g-1 adsorption capacity and 0.01404 min-1 kinetic constant (k1) value. In the reuse assay, PLA:SiO2 membranes preserved their adsorption activity after three consecutive adsorption cycles, with a value superior to 60%. Therefore, PLA:SiO2 nanocomposites from agricultural waste are an alternative to "low-cost/low-end" treatments and can be used in traditional treatment systems to improve dye removal from contaminated waters.

Abstract
Dye wastewater has caused great harm to the environment, which is an urgent problem to be solved. As typical three-dimensional porous materials, aerogels have attracted great interest in dye wastewater treatment. In this work, spherical attapulgite/silica (ATP/SiO2) gels were initially prepared by easily scalable sol-gel dripping methods and then dried to aerogels with three drying techniques, namely, supercritical CO2 drying (SCD), freeze-drying (FD), and ambient pressure drying (APD). The effect of the drying techniques and heat-treated temperature on the physical characteristic, morphological properties, microstructure, and chemical structure of the spherical ATP/SiO2 aerogels were investigated. The macroscopic morphology of the spherical ATP/SiO2 aerogels was homogeneous and integrated without local cracking. The average pore diameter and specific surface area of the spherical ATP/SiO2 aerogels prepared by the three drying techniques were in the range of 6.8-8.6 nm and 218.5-267.4 m2/g, respectively. The heat treatment temperature had a significant effect on the pore structure and the wetting properties of the aerogels. The 600 °C heat-treated aerogels were subjected to adsorption tests in methylene blue (MB) solution (60 mg/g, 100 mL), which exhibited a great adsorption capacity of 102.50 mg/g. Therefore, the resulting spherical ATP/SiO2 aerogels possessed multipath preparation and exhibited an efficient adsorption performance, with the potential to be applied as an adsorbent for dye wastewater.

Abstract
The effective utilization of biomass and the purification of dye wastewater are urgent problems. In this study, a biomass aerogel (CaCO3@starch/polyacrylamide/TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose, CaCO3@STA/PAM/TOCN) was prepared by combining nanocellulose with starch and introducing calcium carbonate nanoparticles, which exhibited a rich three-dimensional layered porous structure with a very light mass. Starch and nanocellulose can be grafted onto the molecular chain of acrylamide, while calcium carbonate nanopores can make the gel pore size uniform and have excellent swelling properties. Here, various factors affecting the adsorption behavior of this aerogel, such as pH, contact time, ambient temperature, and initial concentration, are investigated. From the kinetic data, it can be obtained that the adsorption process fits well with the pseudo-second-order. The Langmuir isotherm model can fit the equilibrium data well. The thermodynamic data also demonstrated the spontaneous and heat-absorbing properties of anionic and cationic dyes on CaCO3@STA/PAM/TOCN aerogels. The adsorption capacity of Congo red (CR) and methylene blue (MB) by CaCO3@STA/PAM/TOCN was 277.76 mg/g and 101.01 mg/g, respectively. Therefore, cellulose and starch-based aerogels can be considered promising adsorbents for the treatment of dye wastewater.

Abstract
The synthesis of silica gel nanostructures and loading it with copper specie via a hydrothermal process were performed. The sample is treated with an amino-functional reagent 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES). The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), TGA/DSC measurements, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic activities of the nanostructures were studied for degradation of methylene blue dye (as a classic dye contaminant) in aqueous solution utilizing visible light source. The results displayed that the sample treated with APTES is much more effective in photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue. This modified catalyst could eliminate methylene blue dye (50 mL, 18 µg mL-1) within 60 min under visible light. The degradation efficiency was increased by shortening the degradation time to 30 min in the alkaline medium. The pseudo-first-order model well describes the kinetics of the reaction.

Abstract
Water pollution by organic dyes poses great challenge to the environment and living organism. Hence effective removal of organic dyes by cost effective methods have received significant attention in recent years. Herein, we report the complete removal of organic dyes (rhodamine B), methylene blue) and eosin yellow) from water via effective adsorption by MoO3 catalyst. Hydrothermally synthesised MoO2 (1) and amorphous MoSx (2) using ammonium molybdate without and with thiourea exhibited low dye adsorption. In contrast, crystalline micro/nanoplates of MoO3 (3 and 4) obtained from calcination of 1 and 2 showed highly enhanced dye adsorption. Particularly 4 showed higher dye adsorption compared to 3. UV-Visible absorption studies confirmed complete removal of organic dyes upon stirring with MoO3 catalyst. Dye removal studies further revealed that cationic dyes are adsorbed faster than anionic dye that could be attributed to the surface charge of MoO3. Interestingly, the adsorbed dyes were not released from MoO3 for more than 50 days. The exhausted MoO3 catalyst can be recovered by annealing at 400 °C. MoO3 catalyst has also been used as packing materials in dropper column and demonstrated effective removal of dyes by passing through dyes separately as well as mixture.

Abstract
In this study, Cellulose/Zinc Oxide-x (CA/ZnO-x) hybrid aerogel with various concentrations of Zn2+ ion is synthesized through the hydrothermal method and used for organic pollutant removal. The CA/ZnO-x hybrid aerogel was characterized by XRD, UV-Visible, DRS, FTIR, FESEM, EDS, BET, LC-MS-MS analyses. In the present study, CA/ZnO-x hybrid aerogel as photocatalyst was used to investigate the influence of the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) from an aqueous solution under UV irradiation. The morphology of CA/ZnO-x hybrid aerogels exhibited that the ZnO rice grain-like shape were successfully synthesized on the cellulose aerogel matrix. Also, the influence of various factors such as photocatalyst dosage, pH, initial concentration of MO, and irradiation intensity was investigated on the photocatalytic degradation rate of MO. The results revealed that the highest degradation efficiency and mineralization rate of MO were about 99.02% and 51.68%, respectively, after 90 min under UV irradiation using CA/ZnO-0.4 photocatalyst when pH = 3, C0 = 10 ppm, photocatalyst dose = 9 g L-1 under the 300 W UV light irradiation. Furthermore, the synthesized photocatalyst exhibited a considerable firmness and easily separated from an aqueous solution for reuse.

Abstract
In recent years, layered double hydroxide-biochar (LDH-BC) composites as adsorbents and catalysts for contaminants removal (inorganic anions, heavy metals, and organics) have received increasing attention and became a new research point. It is because of the good chemical stability, abundant surface functional groups, excellent anion exchange ability, and good electronic properties of LDH-BC composites. Hence, we offer an overall review on the developments and processes in the synthesis of LDH-BC composites as adsorbents and catalysts. Special attention is devoted to the strategies for enhancing the properties of LDH-BC composites, including (1) magnetic treatment, (2) acid treatment, (3) alkali treatment, (4) controlling metal ion ratios, (5) LDHs intercalation, and (6) calcination. In addition, further studies are called for LDH-BC composites and potential areas for future application of LDH-BC composites are also proposed.

Abstract
Dyes molecules are the most common pollutants of wastewater in the environment from the textile industry to numbers of technologies include dyeing, printing, and painting procedures. Among membrane-based separation approaches as established methods in the water treatment industry, polymers attracted massive attention in the production of membranes due to their low cost and high-performance filtration of pollutants. However, hydrophobicity and low speed of filtration along with limited decontamination performance against some of the dyes, demand new approaches and membranes to overcome drawbacks points. Herein, a new design introduced including a support layer made by Poly Vinylidene Fluoride (PVDF)/Graphene Oxide (PGO) composite membrane via immersion precipitation process and a thin layer (≤100 nm) of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) deposited (as an active layer) through a simple vacuum filtration method. It has been observed that the presence of the GO sheets in the PGO composite improved the hydrophilicity of the membrane, water flux (from ~90 L m-2 h-1 bar-1 in pristine PVDF to ~1690 L m-2 h-1 bar-1 in PGO), and anti-fouling property. By deposition of rGO laminate on PGO support, dyes separation as high as ~99% can be achieved for most of the cationic and anionic dyes due to electrostatic adsorption, π-π interactions and molecular sieving. This approach opens new insight on hybrid designs for graphene-polymers based membrane toward efficient and fast removal of pollutants from wastewater.

Abstract
Aerogels are open, three-dimensional, porous materials characterized by outstanding properties, such as low density, high porosity, and high surface area. They have been used in various fields as adsorbents, catalysts, materials for thermal insulation, or matrices for drug delivery. Aerogels have been successfully used for environmental applications to eliminate toxic and harmful substances-such as metal ions or organic dyes-contained in wastewater, and pollutants-including aromatic or oxygenated volatile organic compounds (VOCs)-contained in the air. This updated review on the use of different aerogels-for instance, graphene oxide-, cellulose-, chitosan-, and silica-based aerogels-provides information on their various applications in removing pollutants, the results obtained, and potential future developments.

Abstract
Recycling and reusing glass fiber waste (GFW) has become an environmental concern, as the means of disposal are becoming limited as GFW production increases. Therefore, this study developed a novel, cost-effective method to turn GFW into a mesoporous zeolite-like nanomaterial (MZN) that could serve as an environmentally benign adsorbent and efficient remover of methylene blue (MB) from solutions. Using the Taguchi optimizing approach to hydrothermal alkaline activation, we produced analcime with interconnected nanopores of about 11.7 nm. This MZN had a surface area of 166 m2 g−1 and was negatively charged with functional groups that could adsorb MB ranging from pH 2 to 10 and all with excellent capacity at pH 6.0 of the maximum Langmuir adsorption capacity of 132 mg g−1. Moreover, the MZN adsorbed MB exothermically, and the reaction is reversible according to its thermodynamic parameters. In sum, this study indicated that MZN recycled from glass fiber waste is a novel, environmentally friendly means to adsorb cation methylene blue (MB), thus opening a gateway to the design and fabrication of ceramic-zeolite and tourmaline-ceramic balls and ceramic ring-filter media products. In addition, it has environmental applications such as removing cation dyes and trace metal ions from aqueous solutions and recycling water.

Abstract
The removal of Basic Blue-41 dye molecules was carried out by using two doped porous clay heterostructures by aluminum (Al) or zirconium (Zr) species. The proposed method of synthesis showed its efficiency, starting from Al or Zr intercalated hydrolyzed species, prior to its reaction with dodecylamine (C12 amine) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as a silica source. The intercalated precursors and their porous clay heterostructures (PCH) derivatives were characterized by different techniques. Solid NMR technique proved the presence of Al species into the intercalated silica between the clay sheets, and in addition to Si in different environments within the PCH materials. The Zr-PCH material exhibited a higher surface area and pore volume compared to its Al-PCH counterpart, with a mesoporous character for both materials. A maximum removed amount of 279 and 332 mg/g was achieved and deduced from the Langmuir equation. The regeneration tests revealed that the removal efficiency of Zr-PCH was retained after five regeneration runs, with a loss of 15% of the original value; meanwhile, the Al-PCH lost 45% of its efficiency after only three cycles. A single-stage batch design was proposed based on the Langmuir isotherm parameters. The increase of the removal capacity of Zr-PCH led to the reduction of the required amounts for the target removal of BB-41 dye compared to Al-PCH.

Abstract
Finding affordable and environment-friendly options to decontaminate wastewater generated with heavy metals and dyes to prevent the depletion of accessible freshwater resources is one of the indispensable challenges of the 21st century. Adsorption is yet to be the most effective and low-cost wastewater treatment method used for the removal of pollutants from wastewater, while naturally derived adsorbent materials have garnered tremendous attention. One promising example of such adsorbents is hydrogels (HGs), which constitute a three-dimensional polymeric network of hydrophilic groups that is highly capable of adsorbing a large quantity of metal ions and dyes from wastewater. Although HGs can also be prepared from synthetic polymers, natural polymers have improved environmental benignity. Recently, cellulose-based hydrogels (CBHs) have been extensively studied owing to their high abundance, biodegradability, non-toxicity, and excellent adsorption capacity. This review emphasizes different CBH adsorbents in the context of dyes and heavy metals removal from wastewater following diverse synthesis techniques and adsorption mechanisms. This study also summarizes various process parameters necessary to optimize adsorption capacity followed by future research directions.

Abstract
Multifunctional silica-based aerogels are an emerging material due to their unique properties and wide applications. However, their large-scale production and application are limited due to the high cost and cumbersome preparation process. Herein, we prepare graphene oxide (GO)/silica-based composite aerogels via a simple in situ sol-gel reaction. GO nanosheets (GOs) are functionalized with polyethylenimine (PEI) and 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) successively. After a cohydrolysis and condensation of trimethoxymethylsilane (MTMS) and dimethoxydimethylsilane (DMDMS) in the presence of GOs and a convenient ambient-pressure drying process, the composite aerogels are obtained. In addition to the normal cross-linking of MTMS and DMDMS, the GOs also behave as cross-linking points to significantly enhance the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the network of the composite aerogels. The pore structure of the aerogels is tailored by varying the GO loads as well as its surface modification. The Young's modulus of a composite aerogel with a GO load of 0.5 wt % is about 5 times that for a neat polysiloxane aerogel, and the maximum degradation rate temperature is increased to over 90 °C. Compared with pure polysiloxane aerogel, the thermal insulation and flame resistance are also improved by a small addition of GOs. Moreover, GO/silica-based composite aerogels show stable piezo-resistive behavior. With the excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability, and multifunctionality, GO/silica-based composite aerogels show promising applications under some harsh and extreme conditions.

Abstract
In this study, a new type of silica-cellulose hybrid aerogel was synthesized through a green and facile chemical cross-linking process. In a first step, dendritic fibrous nanostructured (colloidal) silica particles (DFNS) were prepared by a simple hydrothermal technique. Then, the surface of DFNS particles was functionalized with amine groups using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane to produce DFNS-NH2. In a second step, bifunctional hairy nanocellulose (BHNC) particles were functionalized with both aldehyde and carboxylic groups. The aldehyde groups of BHNC and the amine groups of DFNS-NH2 chemically reacted through a Schiff base reaction to form a hybrid hydrogel nanocomposite. Therefore, no external cross-linker is required in the synthesis. This hybrid aerogel is very lightweight and highly porous with a density of 0.107 g mL-1 and a porosity of 93.0 ± 0.4%. It has a large surface area of 350 m2 g-1, a large pore volume of 0.23 cm3 g-1, and a small pore size of 3.9 nm. The developed aerogel contains both positively and negatively charged functional groups and is a highly efficient substrate for dye adsorption from water, for both cationic and anionic organic dyes. These aerogels were found to have an outstanding adsorption capacity toward methylene blue (MB) as a cationic dye and methyl orange (MO) as an anionic dye. The results show that the aerogels can adsorb MB and MO with a capacity of 270 and 300 mg dye/g adsorbent, respectively.

Abstract
A novel three-dimensional carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite aerogel crosslinked by poly (methyl vinyl ether-co-maleic acid)/poly (ethylene glycol) system via a directional freezing technique exhibits high structure stability while simultaneously maintaining its excellent adsorption capacity to remove organic dyes from liquid. A series of crosslinked aerogels with different amounts of GO were investigated for their adsorption capacity of methylene blue (MB), which were found to be superb adsorbents, and the maximum adsorption capacity reached 520.67 mg/g with the incorporation of rGO. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm studies revealed that the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order model and the Langmuir adsorption model, and the adsorption was a spontaneous process. Furthermore, the crosslinked aerogel can be easily recycled after washing with dilute HCl solution, which could retain over 97% of the adsorption capacity after recycling five times. These excellent properties endow the crosslinked CMC/rGO aerogel’s potential in wastewater treatment and environment protection.

Abstract
Supported carbon quantum dots (CQDs), used as fluorescent sensors for the detection of metal ions, have rarely been used to remove heavy metals from water. Nitrogen-doped CQDs immobilized in hydrophilic silica hydrogels exhibited a more superior sensitivity and selectivity for the detection of Re(VII) and Cr(VI) than other metal ions, including Fe(III), Fe(II), Zn(II), Cu(II) and Mn(II). For the first time, low limits of detection (LOD) of 2.3 μM for Re(VII) detection and 65 nM for Cr(VI) detection were reported by a facile method. Based on the high selectivity of fluorescent silica hydrogels for Re(VII) and Cr(VI) detection, the removal of Re(VII) and Cr(VI) by graphene oxide (GO) in water was monitored with the hydrogels used as a turn-off fluorescent sensing platform. The consistent results of the sorption isotherms of each metal on GO, which were obtained from the fluorescence spectra and by UV absorption, further verified the possibility of monitoring metal removal by fluorescence detection. Remarkably, GO removed 1186 mg/g of Re(VII) but only 178 mg/g of Cr(VI). The density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicated that both Re(VII) and Cr(VI) formed stable bonds with silica hydrogels, confirming that the interactions between the metal ions and the substrate would promote the fluorescence quenching of the supported CQDs. On the other hand, Re(VII) interacted more strongly with the carboxyl groups of GO than Cr(VI). In addition, a real-time detection system was designed to alarm the service life of a GO filter used for Re(VII) removal.

Abstract
Serious environmental and health problems arise from the everyday release of industrial wastewater effluents. A wide range of pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds, heavy metals or textile dyes, may be efficiently removed by silica materials advanced solutions such as aerogels. This option is related to their exceptional characteristics that favors the adsorption of different contaminants. The aerogels performance can be selectively tuned by an appropriate chemical or physical modification of the aerogel's surface. Therefore, the introduction of amine groups enhances the affinity between different organic and inorganic contaminants and the silica aerogels. In this work, different case studies are reported to investigate and better understand the role of these functional groups in the adsorption process, since the properties of the synthesized aerogels were significantly affected, regarding their microstructure and surface area. In general, an improvement of the removal efficiency after functionalization of aerogels with amine groups was found, with removal efficiencies higher than 90% for lead and Rubi Levafix CA. To explain the adsorption mechanism, both Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied; chemisorption is most likely the sorption type taking place in the studied cases.

Abstract
Background: One of the future applications of magnetic nanoparticles is the development of new iron-oxide-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) negative contrast agents, which are intended to improve the results of diagnostics and complement existing Gd-based contrast media. Results: Iron oxide nanoparticles designed for use as MRI contrast media are precisely examined by a variety of methods: powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy and zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance (ZF-NMR) spectroscopy. TEM and XRD measurements reveal a spherical shape of the nanoparticles with an average diameter of 5-8 nm and a cubic spinel-type crystal structure of space group Fd-3m. Raman, Mössbauer and NMR spectroscopy clearly indicate the presence of the maghemite γ-Fe2O3 phase. Moreover, a difference in the magnetic behavior of uncoated and human serum albumin coated iron oxide nanoparticles was observed by Mössbauer spectroscopy. Conclusion: This difference in magnetic behavior is explained by the influence of biofunctionalization on the magnetic and electronic properties of the iron oxide nanoparticles. The ZF-NMR spectra analysis allowed us to determine the relative amount of iron located in the core and the surface layer of the nanoparticles. The obtained results are important for understanding the structural and magnetic properties of iron oxide nanoparticles used as T 2 contrast agents for MRI.

Abstract
The magnetic Fe3O4-SiO2 binary aerogel and nonmagnetic α-Fe2O3-SiO2 binary aerogels are obtained by adjusting the solvent type during the solvothermal reaction and varying the Fe/Si proportion in the sol-gel process. The microstructure, surface charge and the formation mechanism of iron-based silica binary aerogels are analyzed by SEM, zeta potential and BET. The influence of the Fe/Si proportion on the surface group and morphology of binary aerogels is also investigated by FTIR and TEM analysis. The adsorption behavior of the iron-based silica binary aerogels on the Congo Red (CR) dye is also discussed by adsorption kinetics model and adsorption isotherm model. In addition, the effects of pH and initial concentration of the solutions, adsorption time and the maximum adsorption capacities for CR of iron-based silica binary aerogels adsorbents are also discussed, respectively. Moreover, the maximum adsorption capacity of as-prepared magnetic Fe3O4-SiO2 binary aerogels for dyes achieved 489.13 mg g-1, the maximum adsorption capacity of nonmagnetic α-Fe2O3-SiO2 reached 454.55 mg g-1, respectively. Thus, the iron-based silica binary aerogels provides valuable clues for the study of other aerogel materials as adsorbents.

Abstract
A magnetic nanoadsorbent with a cross-linked β-Cyclodextrin maleic anhydride polymer capable of simultaneous removal of hydrophilic and hydrophobic dyes was developed with high efficacy and desorption/recycling efficiency. The effect of various parameters (concentration, adsorbent dosage, contact time, pH, and temperature) was evaluated to assess the optimum adsorption conditions. The superparamagnetic nanoadsorbent (SPNA) could be easily separated by magnetic decantation and showed maximum removal of malachite green with 97.2% adsorption efficiency. Studies on simultaneous adsorption of dyes from a mixture were performed and the adsorption capacity was calculated. Interestingly, the phenomenon of competitive adsorption was observed. The adsorption process can be fitted well into the Langmuir isotherm model and follows pseudo-second-order kinetics. SPNA could be effectively regenerated and recycled at least five times without any significant loss in removal efficiency. SPNA could be an ideal adsorbent for water remediation because of excellent dye removal efficiency in addition to chemical stability, ease of synthesis, and better reusability.

Abstract
In this work, a lightweight inorganic-organic hybrid foam adsorbent is processed out of economically cheap "double-silicate" precursors employing natural bentonite and water glass through a facile cross-linking and polymerization technique. Poly(vinyl alcohol) was used to provide structural strength to the three-dimensional framework. The foam adsorbent possessed an apparent density of 0.083 g cm-3, indicating its internetworks and exposed surface area for the uptake of dyes. The foam was systematically studied for the treatment of textile dye effluent. Multivariate optimization process was carried out using response surface methodology. The Box-Behnken model was used for the design of experiments and to study the interplay between the variables. Batch adsorption and continuous column adsorption studies were carried out at respective levels of initial concentration (200-1000 μM), adsorbent dose (1-10 g L-1), and contact time (0-120 min). The results revealed that the hybrid silicate foam exhibits adsorption capacity as high as 99.9, 98.9, and 98.2% for 200, 600, and 1000 μM concentrations of methylene blue in 120 min, respectively, and 100% adsorption for 200, 600, and 1000 μM concentrations of crystal violet in 120 min for 10 g L-1 of adsorbent. Adsorption equilibrium data fitted well to Langmuir isotherm, and the kinetics followed second-order kinetic model. Synthetic industrial effluent with 1000 μM dye concentration was also prepared and studied with continuous column for determining the working capacity of the adsorbent, and the results are presented. The silicate hybrid foam is a cheap adsorbent that does not produce any secondary waste and can be repeatedly used making it attractive for dye industries.

Synthesis of nanocomposites using xylan and graphite oxide for remediation of cationic dyes in aqueous solutions. Int J Biol Macromol 2019; 137:886-894. Abstract
Due to the rapid development of industrialization, the water resources on which we depend are facing unprecedented challenges. Dyes, as an indispensable substance in our lives, have caused great pollution to the water resources in nature, and the removal of dyes from wastewater is becoming an important topic. A porous xylan/poly(acrylic acid)/graphite oxide nanocomposite was prepared by graft polymerization and used for adsorption of cationic ethyl violet dye in wastewaters in this paper. Various techniques, i.e., Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, elemental analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, were used to study this composite. Adsorption isotherm measurements showed that the composite's adsorption behavior fits the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model. Adsorption tests showed that this material has excellent adsorption properties; the maximum adsorption capacity for ethyl violet dye was 273.99 mg/g. Investigation of the adsorption mechanism indicated that electrostatic forces and π-π effects are mainly involved in adsorption. Desorption cycling tests showed that the adsorption efficiency of the composite was still over 95% after 3 cycles. These results show that this porous xylan/poly (acrylic acid)/graphite oxide nanocomposite has potential applications in cationic dye removal.
