Abstract
Imparting flame retardancy to polyester fabrics is still a pressing issue for the textile industry. To this end, a composite coating was developed by phosphite, pentamethyldisiloxane, urea and sodium alginate, and then applied together with calcium chloride to prepare flame-retardant polyester fabrics. The optimized polyester fabrics named PF-HUSC exhibited a rough surface with P, Si, N and Ca element distributions, as observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX). Flame retardancy evaluations showed that the damaged length of PF-HUSC with a limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 35.3 ± 0.3 % was reduced from the contrastive 17.6 ± 0.4 cm to 4.6 ± 0.2 cm after vertical burning test. Thermogravimetric (TG) test confirmed that PF-HUSC retained a char residue as high as 35.1 % at 700 °C. Cone calorimetry test displayed that the total heat release (THR) and total smoke production (TSP) values of PF-HUSC were reduced to 3.1 MJ/m2 and 1.1 m2, respectively, as compared to those of pure polyester fabrics. More importantly, PF-HUSC still exhibited higher LOI value than that of pure polyester fabrics after 25 washing cycles. Hence, the coating scheme is considered as a new method to expand the preparation of flame-retardant polyester fabrics.

Abstract
Superhydrophobic polyester (PET) fabrics were created by increasing fabric surface roughness and decreasing surface energy through interactions between natural polyphenols, ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, and hexadecyltrimethoxysilane. The superhydrophobic fabric can be obtained with different natural polyphenols, including tannic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, guaiacol, and caffeic acid. Durability tests were carried out on the superhydrophobic PET fabric, investigating resistance to washing, rubbing, UV aging, acids, alkalis, and organic reagents. The results demonstrate the stability and versatility of modified PET in complex environments. The modified superhydrophobic PET fabric exhibited exceptional oil-water separation and self-cleaning properties, exhibiting a water contact angle of 161.3° and a sliding angle of 4°. In addition, the modified fabric demonstrated a remarkable photothermal conversion efficiency, with the surface temperature increasing from 29.1 to 72 °C in 300 s, and it maintained a degree of photothermal conversion capability even upon completion of four cycles. This study offers novel perspectives on extending the utilization of natural polyphenols for constructing durable, robust, and multifunctional superhydrophobic fabrics.

Abstract
Cellulose-based fabrics are ubiquitous in our daily lives. They are the preferred choice for bedding materials, active sportswear, and next-to-skin apparels. However, the hydrophilic and polysaccharide characteristics of cellulose materials make them vulnerable to bacterial attack and pathogen infection. The design of antibacterial cellulose fabrics has been a long-term and on-going effort. Fabrication strategies based on the construction of surface micro-/nanostructure, chemical modification, and the application of antibacterial agents have been extensively investigated by many research groups worldwide. This review systematically discusses recent research on super-hydrophobic and antibacterial cellulose fabrics, focusing on morphology construction and surface modification. First, natural surfaces showing liquid-repellent and antibacterial properties are introduced and the mechanisms behind are explained. Then, the strategies for fabricating super-hydrophobic cellulose fabrics are summarized, and the contribution of the liquid-repellent function to reducing the adhesion of live bacteria and removing dead bacteria is elucidated. Representative studies on cellulose fabrics functionalized with super-hydrophobic and antibacterial properties are discussed in detail, and their potential applications are also introduced. Finally, the challenges in achieving super-hydrophobic antibacterial cellulose fabrics are discussed, and the future research direction in this area is proposed. Graphical Abstract The figure summarizes the natural surfaces and the main fabrication strategies of superhydrophobic antibacterial cellulose fabrics and their potential applications. Abstract
Prevention of bacterial adhesion is a way to reduce and/or avoid biofilm formation, thus restraining its associated infections. The development of repellent anti-adhesive surfaces, such as superhydrophobic surfaces, can be a strategy to avoid bacterial adhesion. In this study, a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film was modified by in situ growth of silica nanoparticles (NPs) to create a rough surface. The surface was further modified with fluorinated carbon chains to increase its hydrophobicity. The modified PET surfaces presented a pronounced superhydrophobic character, showing a water contact angle of 156° and a roughness of 104 nm (a considerable increase comparing with the 69° and 4.8 nm obtained for the untreated PET). Scanning Electron Microscopy was used to evaluate the modified surfaces morphology, further confirming its successful modification with nanoparticles. Additionally, a bacterial adhesion assay using an Escherichia coli expressing YadA, an adhesive protein from Yersinia so-called Yersinia adhesin A, was used to assess the anti-adhesive potential of the modified PET. Contrarily to what was expected, adhesion of E. coli YadA was found to increase on the modified PET surfaces, exhibiting a clear preference for the crevices. This study highlights the role of material micro topography as an important attribute when considering bacterial adhesion.

Abstract
The superhydrophobic surface can be prepared by two methods; one is by reducing the surface energy, and the other is by constructing a micro-nano rough structure. To achieve high superhydrophobic performance in terms of durability, the firm combination of hydrophobic coating and substrate is particularly important. Here, we use polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as a low surface energy monomer, water-borne polyurethane (WPU) as a dispersing aid, and use high-power ultrasound to disperse PDMS in water to make emulsion. The polyester matrix is etched by atmospheric plasma, dipped in PDMS emulsion, dried, and finally baked to induce PDMS on the surface of polyester fiber to cross-link into film. A series of tests on the self-cleaning polyester fabric prepared by this method show that when the concentration of PDMS is 8 g/L and the mass ratio of PDMS to WPU is 20:1, the water contact angle (WCA) reaches the maximum value of 148.2°, which decreases to 141.5° after 200 times of washing and 138.6° after 5000 times of rubbing. Before and after PDMS coating, the tensile strength of polyester fabric increases from 489.4 N to 536.4 N, and the water vapor transmission decreases from 13,535.7 g/(m2·d) to 12,224.3 g/(m2·d). This research is helpful to the large-scale production of self-cleaning polyester fabric. In the future, on the basis of this research, we will add functional powder to endow self-cleaning polyester fabric with higher hydrophobicity and other properties.

Abstract
In recent years, biology-inspired superhydrophobic technology has attracted extensive attention and has been widely used in self-cleaning, anti-icing, oil-water separation, and other fields. However, the poor durability restricts its application in practice; thus, it is urgent to systematically summarize it so that scientists can guide the future development of this field. Here, in this review, we first elucidated five kinds of typical superhydrophobic models, namely, Young's equation, Wenzel, Cassie-Baxter, Wenzel-Cassie, "Lotus," and "Gecko" models. Then, we summarized the improvement in mechanical stability and chemical stability of superhydrophobic surface. Later, the durability test methods such as mechanical test methods and chemical test methods are discussed. Afterwards, we displayed the applications of multifunctional mechanical-chemical superhydrophobic materials, namely, anti-fogging, self-cleaning, oil-water separation, antibacterial, membrane distillation, battery, and anti-icing. Finally, the outlook and challenge of mechanical-chemical superhydrophobic materials are highlighted.

Abstract
Through the special chemical structure of dopamine (DA), superhydrophobic polyester (PET) fabric was fabricated by introducing the low surface energy substance hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDS) into the PET fabric and chelating Fe ions with phenolic hydroxyl groups of polydopamine (PDA) to form a rough surface. The water contact angle (WCA) of the prepared PDA/Fe/HDS PET fabric was higher than 160° and the scrolling angle (SA) was lower than 2.09°. The excellent adhesion property of polydopamine (PDA) on the substrate is helpful to improve the stability of superhydrophobic PDA/Fe/HDS PET fabric. The tests results showed that the modified PET fabric maintains excellent mechanical properties. Its superhydrophobic property had good stability and durability in the harsh environment of washing, mechanical friction, UV irradiation, seawater immersion, acid–base and organic reagents erosion. The PDA/Fe/HDS PET fabric also had good self-cleaning and oil–water separation properties. It still had good oil–water separation performance after repeated use for 25 times, and the separation efficiency was more than 95%. The preparation method was facile, the treatment time can be shortened, the cost of the modified substrate was low, and fluorine-free substances were used in the process. This work provides a new way to expand the added value of PET fabrics and develop durable superhydrophobic fabrics in practical application. Through the special chemical structure of dopamine, superhydrophobic polyester fabric was fabricated by introducing the low surface energy substance hexadecyltrimethoxysilane into the PET fabric and chelating Fe ions to form rough surface.![]()
