Abstract
Background: College student cannabis use has increased significantly in recent years, and individuals aged 18-25 are at elevated risk for development of cannabis use disorder (CUD). While weekly cannabis use frequency is a commonly used measure of cannabis consumption, there is increasing scientific interest in exploring more nuanced measures of cannabis use. Currently, limited research exists examining the clinical utility of cannabis quantity, within-day frequency, and potency variables. Methods: We used cross-sectional survey data from a sample of 617 undergraduate students in the state of Colorado. A two-part model-building approach was leveraged to examine whether within-session cannabis quantity and within-day cannabis use frequency were associated with odds of experiencing any CUD symptoms and total number of CUD symptoms endorsed. We also examined whether cannabis flower potency was associated with odds of experiencing any CUD symptoms and total number of CUD symptoms endorsed among a subset (N=288) of the sample who reported knowledge of the cannabinoid content of their most frequently used products. Results: Weekly flower use frequency (odds ratio [OR]=1.27, p<0.001) and weekly concentrate use frequency (OR=1.10, p=0.044) were positively associated with increased odds of experiencing any CUD symptoms, but cannabis quantity and within-day frequency variables were not. In addition, no association was found between flower potency and odds of endorsing any CUD symptoms. Among individuals endorsing at least one symptom, weekly flower use frequency (incident rate ratio [IRR]=1.06, p<0.001) was positively associated with total symptom count, but weekly concentrate use frequency, cannabis quantity variables, and within-day frequency variables were not. Among individuals endorsing symptoms, a positive association was found between flower potency and total symptom count (IRR=1.01, p=0.008). Conclusion: Current methods of assessing within-session cannabis quantity and within-day cannabis use frequency may lack clinical utility in examining college student CUD symptoms over and above weekly cannabis use frequency. Cannabis flower potency may prove useful in assessment of CUD symptom severity, but further research is warranted.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cannabinoids are being used by patients to help with chronic pain management and to address the 2 primary chronic pain comorbidities of anxiety and sleep disturbance. It is necessary to understand the biphasic effects of cannabinoids to improve treatment of this symptom triad. METHODS A scoping review was conducted to identify whether biphasic effects of cannabinoids on pain severity, anxiolysis, and sleep disturbance have been reported. The search included the Embase, Biosis, and Medline databases of clinical literature published between 1970 and 2021. The inclusion criteria were (1) adults more than 18 years of age, (2) data or discussion of dose effects associated with U-shaped or linear dose responses, and (3) measurements of pain and/or anxiety and/or sleep disturbance. Data were extracted by 2 independent reviewers (with a third reviewer used as a tiebreaker) and subjected to a thematic analysis. RESULTS After the database search and study eligibility assessment, 44 publications met the final criteria for review. Eighteen publications that specifically provided information on dose response were included in the final synthesis: 9 related to pain outcomes, 7 measuring anxiety, and 2 reporting sleep effects. CONCLUSIONS This scoping review reports on biphasic effects of cannabinoids related to pain, sleep, and anxiety. Dose-response relationships are present, but we found gaps in the current literature with regard to biphasic effects of cannabinoids in humans. There is a lack of prospective research in humans exploring this specific relationship.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cannabis use for non-medical purposes was legalized and regulated in Canada through the Cannabis Act in October 2018. This paper examined trends in use of cannabis for non-medical purposes and related indicators from pre- to post-legalization in Canada (2018-2022). METHODS Data from 5 years of the Canadian Cannabis Survey, an annual web-based survey administered to Canadians 16 years of age or older, were used in the analysis (n2018=12,952; n2019=11,922; n2020=10,821; n2021=10,733; n2022=10,048). Cannabis measures include questions about use, types of products, sources, risk perceptions and beliefs, and exposure to public education campaigns and health warnings. Adjusted logistic regression models tested differences in outcomes over time. RESULTS Past 12-month cannabis consumption increased among Canadians from 22 % in 2018 to 27 % in 2022 (AOR=1.41;99 % CI:1.28-1.54). Similarly, daily/almost daily (DAD) consumption increased from 5 % in 2018 to 7 % in 2022 (AOR=1.36;99 % CI:1.16-1.59). Consumption of dried flower, hash/kief, and concentrates/extracts (e.g., wax, shatter, budder) decreased since 2018, whereas consumption of edibles, beverages and vape pens/cartridges increased (p < 0.001). Legal purchasing increased from 4 % in 2018 to 69 % in 2022, while accessing cannabis through social and illegal sources decreased over time (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION More Canadians are reporting cannabis consumption since legalization and regulation of cannabis for non-medical purposes, continuing a pre-existing trend despite an increase in awareness of the risks of consuming cannabis. Trends in product use indicate a transition from dried flower and concentrates/extracts towards consumption of cannabis foods, drinks and vape pens/cartridges. The legal market is increasingly displacing the illicit cannabis market in Canada.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Recreational cannabis legalization (RCL) is expanding rapidly. RCL's effects on mental health issues are of particular concern because cannabis use is more frequent among people receiving psychiatric care and is associated with several psychiatric disorders. The authors conducted a scoping review to examine the evidence and discern gaps in the literature concerning the effects of RCL on mental health and to assess the factors responsible for an observed heterogeneity in research results. METHODS This scoping literature review followed PRISMA guidelines. Five databases-MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, APA PsycInfo, and Web of Science-were searched for English- or French-language reports published between January 1, 2012, and April 30, 2023. RESULTS Twenty-eight studies from the United States and Canada were found. The studies were classified by category of the study's data (patients receiving psychiatric care [k=1], death records [k=4], emergency department or hospital records [k=10], and the general population [k=13]) and by the diagnosis (schizophrenia or psychoses, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and symptoms, suicide or suicidal ideation, or other mental health issues) examined. The review findings revealed a paucity of research and indicated mixed and largely inconclusive results of the studies examined. Research gaps were found in the examination of potential changes in cannabis use patterns among people receiving psychiatric care and in the availability of longitudinal studies. CONCLUSIONS Clinicians, researchers, and policy makers need to collaborate to address the research gaps and to develop evidence-based policies that reflect a thorough understanding of the effects associated with RCL.

Abstract
Aim: Standardized survey measures that capture diverse cannabis consumption patterns are needed to inform public health and policy. Our team is developing a flexible, personalized, low-burden survey item inventory to measure cannabis use patterns and estimate milligrams of THC (mgTHC) consumption in large samples. This study aimed to identify measurement gaps and analysis implications associated with an initial pool of candidate items that assessed use of cannabis flower and concentrate products (smoked and/or vaporized). Methods: Adult cannabis consumers (n=4247) completed an online survey assessing cannabis use frequency, quantity, product types, product potencies (%THC), and methods of administration. Participants chose to report their consumption quantities using one of three units: "hits per day," "grams per week," or "joints per week." Respondents also indicated whether their past 7-day consumption pattern represented their typical pattern. Results: Eighty-one percent had used cannabis daily in the past week. Thirty-two percent, 53%, and 15% chose to report flower and concentrate consumption quantity in hits, grams, and joints, respectively. Approximately 80-90% of responses for the number of hits, grams, and joints consumed were less than the maximum response option-suggesting that response options captured the full range of potential cannabis consumption behaviors. Those who chose grams or joints units were generally more likely to endorse higher risk cannabis use (e.g., morning use, high %THC products) in the past week than those who chose the hits unit (adjusted Odds Ratio range: 1.2-3.9). Among those who reported that the past week represented their typical behavior (83%), past 30-day and past 7-day frequencies were highly correlated (Spearman's Rho=0.77)-supporting the feasibility of using lower burden "typical week" items to extrapolate patterns beyond a 1-week time frame. Conclusion: Results from this online convenience sample of frequent cannabis consumers suggest that the current items yield coherent and expected response patterns. Although additional testing is required, a standardized, flexible survey instrument for large-scale assessment of cannabis patterns and calculation of mgTHC seems within reach.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sleep problems and anxiety conditions are common comorbidities and may be influenced by cannabis and alcohol use. This study examined daily within-person variation in subjective sleep quality among individuals with anxiety symptoms after cannabis or alcohol were used alone, and after co-use. METHODS A total of 347 individuals with intentions to use cannabis to cope with anxiety reported their cannabis and alcohol use in the previous 24 h and their previous nights' sleep quality for 30 consecutive days. Mixed-effects models examined whether the within-person daily variation in use of cannabis and alcohol (alone and co-use) was associated with subjective sleep quality. Models also examined whether daily cannabis and alcohol use associations with sleep were moderated by frequency of cannabis, alcohol and co-use during the study period. RESULTS Compared to non-use, participants reported better sleep after cannabis-use-only and after co-use, but not after alcohol-use-only. People who more frequently use alcohol and cannabis reported sleeping better after cannabis-use-only days compared to those who use cannabis and alcohol less frequently. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS The study's utilisation of naturalistic data among individuals with anxiety symptoms replicated previously reported experimental findings among individuals without sleep and anxiety problems that overall, cannabis is associated with higher subjective sleep quality. The results expand upon other research to suggest that more frequent use of alcohol and cannabis may moderate daily associations of cannabis use and sleep, potentially through pharmacokinetics and cross-sensitisation.

Abstract
Objective: Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) have varying pharmacological actions with differential effects on acute and extended affective states, incuding anxiety. We aimed to study these effects on anxiety in legal market forms of cannabis. Method: This study makes use of a nonequivalent control group quasiexperimental design. Forty-two participants with anxiety symptions who were not using cannabis were compared to 258 participants with anxiety symptoms who used cannabis flower (∼3-4 times per week). Participants who used cannabis were randomly assigned to one of three legal market cannabis conditions; THC-dominant (24% THC, <1% CBD), THC+CBD (12% THC, 12% CBD), or CBD-dominant (<1% THC, 24% CBD). Changes in anxiety symptoms over 4-weeks were measured by the Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC) scale and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS). Acute changes in subjective mood immediately after cannabis use were measured by the Profile of Mood States (POMS) Elation, Tension, and Paranoia subscales and the Addiction Research Center Inventory intoxication scale. Results: While all participants reported anxiety reductions over the 4-week study on the PGIC (F=30.65, p<0.001) and DASS anxiety measures (F=115.88, p<0.001), ad libitum CBD-dominant cannabis use was associated with lower scores on the DASS anxiety subscale compared to THC-dominant use when accounting for frequency of use (difference=-1.03, SE=0.45, p=0.02). Similarly, acute CBD-dominant cannabis use was associated with lower scores on the POMS tension and paranoia subscales (POMS tension: CBD-dominant vs. THC-dominant: difference=-0.41 SE=0.1, p<0.001; CBD-dominant vs. THC+CBD: difference=-0.28, SE=0.07, p=0.04; POMS paranoia: CBD-dominant vs. THC-dominant: difference=-0.49, SE=0.1, p<0.001; CBD-dominant vs. THC+CBD: difference=-0.33, SE=0.09, p=0.01). Participants in all cannabis conditions experienced acute changes in positive mood and subjective drug effects. Conclusions: This study provides novel information on the impacts of legal market cannabis with varying ratios of THC to CBD in indviduals with anxiety symptoms. Findings suggest that THC did not increase anxiety and that CBD-dominant forms of cannabis were associated with acute tension reduction that may translate to longer-term reductions in anxiety symptoms. Abstract
Highly potent cannabis concentrates are widely available and associated with affective disturbance and cannabis use disorder. Little is known about the effects of concentrated Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) and their relationship to long-term affect. We explored how baseline affective symptoms (anxiety and depression) relate to acute (i.e., immediate or short-term) subjective mood and intoxication effects during naturalistic use of cannabis concentrates. Fifty-four cannabis users (48% female; Mage = 29.87) were assigned to ad libitum use of either a THC-dominant (84.99% THC and THCa, < 1% CBD) or CBD-dominant (74.7% CBD, 4.1% CBDa, 4.5% THC and THCa) concentrate. Individuals were assessed at baseline and before, immediately after, and 1 hr after naturalistic use of their assigned product. Models regressed each outcome on time, product condition, baseline affective symptoms, and their interactions. An interaction emerged between condition and baseline depression symptoms on positive mood (F = 9.47, p < .005); higher depression symptom level was associated with higher positive mood with THC-dominant product use. There was an interaction between condition, baseline depression symptoms, and time on negative mood (F = 5.55, p < .01); negative mood decreased with CBD-dominant product use for all depression symptom levels but increased with THC-dominant product use at high levels. Finally, there was an interaction between condition and time on intoxication (F = 3.72, p = .03); the THC-dominant condition was more intoxicated postuse than the CBD-dominant condition. This novel exploratory study suggests that baseline affect moderates the acute effects of ad libitum use of THC and CBD concentrates such that preexisting affective symptoms modulate the intensity of subjective drug experiences. Abstract
Using 2020 National Survey on Drug Use and Health data (N = 27,170, age 18+), we examined associations of psychological distress with: (1) cannabis use frequency among all adults, and (2) cannabis use disorder (CUD) among cannabis users. Of all adults, 18.2% reported past-year cannabis use, 12.9% reported mild-moderate psychological distress, and 12.9% reported serious psychological distress. Greater proportions of cannabis users, especially those under age 35, reported psychological distress. Of cannabis users, 28.1% met DSM-5 CUD criteria. Multinomial logistic regression results showed that serious, compared to no, psychological distress was significantly associated with cannabis use at all frequency levels. Both mild-moderate and serious levels of distress were associated with similar elevated CUD risk (RRR = 1.57, 95% CI = 1.15-2.15 for mild-moderate distress; RRR = 1.58, 95% CI = 1.19-2.09 for serious distress) and 2-4 times higher risks of having moderate or severe, compared to mild, CUD and higher odds of having alcohol use disorder. The prevalence of CUD and other substance use/use disorder among cannabis users is concerning as are the significant associations of psychological distress with greater cannabis use frequency, CUD, and other substance use/use disorder. Younger adults especially may benefit from increased behavioral health services given their high prevalence of psychological distress, cannabis use, and CUD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Low distress tolerance may result in greater vulnerability to problematic cannabis use. However, the role of the primary form of cannabis used has not been examined as a moderator of this association. While marijuana flower remains the preferred form of cannabis, the popularity of other forms of cannabis, including concentrates and edibles, is on the rise. OBJECTIVES We examined the association between distress tolerance and problematic cannabis use and whether the primary form of cannabis used moderates this relationship. METHODS Participants were 695 (67.6% male) past-month cannabis users who completed an online survey. Multiple linear regressions assessed whether distress tolerance, the primary form of cannabis used, and their interaction were related to problematic cannabis use while controlling for demographic variables and past 30-day alcohol and cannabis use frequency. RESULTS Lower tolerance for distress was associated with more problematic cannabis use. Endorsing concentrates as the primary form of cannabis used vs. marijuana flower was related to more problematic cannabis use while reporting edibles as the primary form of cannabis used vs. marijuana flower or concentrates was related to less problematic cannabis use. Individuals preferring marijuana flower or concentrates reported more problematic cannabis use at lower levels of distress tolerance. CONCLUSIONS Cannabis users exhibiting low distress tolerance or a preference for concentrates may be at greatest risk for experiencing negative consequences related to their cannabis use. Additionally, building tolerance for stressful situations, among both concentrates and marijuana flower users, may aid in minimizing problematic cannabis use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epidemiological studies show a dose-response association between cannabis use and the risk of psychosis. This review aimed to determine whether there are identifiable risk-thresholds between the frequency of cannabis use and psychosis development. METHODS Systematic search of Embase, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and Web of Science for relevant studies (1 January 2010-26 April 2021). Case-control or cohort studies that investigated the relationship between cannabis use and the risk of psychosis development that reported effect estimates [odds ratios (OR), hazard ratios (HR), risk ratios (RR)] or the raw data to calculate them, with information on the frequency of cannabis consumption were included. Effect estimates were extracted from individual studies and converted to RR. Two-stage dose-response multivariable meta-analytic models were utilized and sensitivity analyses conducted. The Newcastle Ottawa Scale was used to assess the risk of bias of included studies. RESULTS Ten original (three cohorts, seven case-control) studies were included, including 7390 participants with an age range of 12-65 years. Random-effect model meta-analyses showed a significant log-linear dose-response association between cannabis use frequency and psychosis development. A restricted cubic-splines model provided the best fit for the data, with the risk of psychosis significantly increasing for weekly or more frequent cannabis use [RR = 1.01, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.93-1.11 yearly; RR = 1.10, 95% CI 0.97-1.25 monthly; RR = 1.35, 95% CI 1.19-1.52 weekly; RR = 1.76, 95% CI 1.47-2.12 daily]. CONCLUSION Individuals using cannabis frequently are at increased risk of psychosis, with no significant risk associated with less frequent use. Public health prevention messages should convey these risk-thresholds, which should be refined through further work.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) studies are well positioned to assess the impact of craving on cannabis use in real time and may better capture its time-varying nature. The goal of this exploratory study was to examine whether momentary craving and craving variability predict subsequent use of cannabis and how baseline concentrate use status and male sex might affect these relationships. METHOD College students residing in a state with legal recreational cannabis use who used cannabis twice a week or more completed a baseline interview and signal-contingent EMA for 2 weeks using a smartphone application. Hierarchical (multi-level) regression was used to examine time-lagged associations between craving, craving variability, and subsequent cannabis use. Baseline concentrate use and male sex were examined as moderators. RESULTS Participants (N = 109) included 59% women, with an average age of 20.2 years, and most using cannabis near-daily or daily. A main effect for craving (within-level effect) on the likelihood of cannabis use at the next EMA instance was found (odds ratio = 1.292, p < .001), although this effect was moderated by concentrate use status. For men, between-level increases in craving led to a greater likelihood of cannabis use at the next instance, but greater craving variability led to a lower likelihood of use. Greater variability in craving was associated with a greater likelihood of cannabis use among those using concentrates. CONCLUSIONS The experience of craving may differ based on important participant characteristics. More research examining the fluctuating nature of craving and the role of cannabis potency on craving is warranted.

Abstract
Background: Medical cannabis currently dominates the U.S. cannabis advertising landscape. The public is increasingly exposed to outdoor cannabis advertising, which increases positive attitudes about and intentions to use cannabis. Research is lacking regarding outdoor cannabis advertising content. This article characterizes the content of outdoor cannabis advertising in Oklahoma, one of the fastest growing U.S. medical cannabis markets. Methods: We conducted a content analysis of cannabis advertising billboard images (n = 73) from Oklahoma City and Tulsa, photographed May 2019-November 2020. We followed a primarily inductive, iterative team approach to thematically analyze billboard content in NVIVO. We reviewed all images, identified a broad coding taxonomy, and then incorporated emergent codes and those related to advertising regulation (e.g. youth/children). We totaled frequencies of code application across billboards and reexamined billboards for final themes. Results: Major themes were social meanings related to cannabis subculture, formal medical systems, and nature, and the presence of company contact information. Minor themes related to convenience, price promotions, store proximity, U.S. affiliation, product quality, and spirituality. State advertising regulation violations were rare, with the exception of content that may promote curative or therapeutic effects (4%) and misrepresentation of product state of origin (1.4%). Conclusion: Outdoor medical cannabis advertising in Oklahoma blurs boundaries between formal medical discourses and cannabis subculture that is suspicious of messaging from authorities and regards cannabis as harmless and natural. Increased monitoring of advertising regulation compliance and greater understanding of social discourses within emerging markets is needed to promote public health within the context of cannabis advertising.

Abstract
Extremely high-potency cannabis concentrates are becoming increasingly available and popular among consumers. While prior research indicates these products are perceived to have greater detrimental effects relative to cannabis flower, few studies have examined their relative objective effects, and no existing studies have compared the cognitive test performance of sober flower users, concentrate users, and non-users. A total of 198 healthy adults (98 non-users, 46 exclusive flower users, and 54 concentrate users) were administered a battery of tests of memory, psychomotor speed, attention, and executive functioning under sober laboratory-controlled conditions. Significant group differences were detected on tests of verbal free recall and episodic prospective memory, with both the flower users and concentrate users demonstrating significantly worse performance than non-users. Concentrate (but not flower) users performed worse than non-users on a measure of source memory, but contrary to our hypothesis, there were no significant differences between flower and concentrate users on any of the cognitive tests. Results indicate that, under sober conditions, individuals who regularly use concentrates are no more cognitively impacted than those who exclusively use flower. These null findings may reflect the tendency for concentrate users to self-titrate and use significantly lower quantities of concentrates than flower.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite limited clinical evidence of its efficacy, cannabis use has been commonly reported for the management of various mental health concerns in naturalistic field studies. The aim of the current study was to use machine learning methods to investigate predictors of perceived symptom change across various mental health symptoms with acute cannabis use in a large naturalistic sample. METHODS Data from 68,819 unique observations of cannabis use from 1307 individuals using cannabis to manage mental health symptoms were analyzed. Data were extracted from Strainprint®, a mobile app that allows users to monitor their cannabis use for therapeutic purposes. Machine learning models were employed to predict self-perceived symptom change after cannabis use, and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) value plots were used to assess feature importance of individual predictors in the model. Interaction effects of symptom severity pre-scores of anxiety, depression, insomnia, and gender were also examined. RESULTS The factors that were most strongly associated with perceived symptom change following acute cannabis use were pre-symptom severity, age, gender, and the ratio of CBD to THC. Further examination on the impact of baseline severity for the most commonly reported symptoms revealed distinct responses, with cannabis being reported to more likely benefit individuals with lower pre-symptom severity for depression, and higher pre-symptom severity for insomnia. Responses to cannabis use also differed between genders. CONCLUSIONS Findings from this study highlight the importance of several factors in predicting perceived symptom change with acute cannabis use for mental health symptom management. Mental health profiles and baseline symptom severity may play a large role in perceived responses to cannabis. Distinct response patterns were also noted across commonly reported mental health symptoms, emphasizing the need for placebo-controlled cannabis trials for specific user profiles.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study explored cannabis use for pain relief among socially marginalised Nigerian women in the context of barriers to pain management. METHODS The study was designed as a qualitative exploratory study of pain experience and management. Sixteen in-depth, individual interviews were conducted with street-involved women who use drugs and had chronic pain. Transcripts were coded and analysed thematically. RESULTS Pain was experienced as a pervasive feature of everyday life that disrupted daily routines, affected economic activities, strained social relationships and had adverse effects on health and wellbeing. Participants sought treatment in health facilities, but faced social and health system barriers to service utilisation including financial cost of services, dismissal of symptoms by providers, stigma due to physical appearance, substance use and lack of social support. These barriers encouraged disengagement from services and reliance on cannabis (along with heroin and diverted prescription opioids) for pain management. Cannabis use relieved pain and improved daily functioning, enabling participants to undertake economic activities. However, using cannabis to enhance the effects of opioids and heavy and long-term use owing to pain chronicity and disability generated concerns about harms. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS Findings show the therapeutic benefits of cannabis in the face of barriers to pain management. This support calls to explore the potentials of cannabis for pain management for socially marginalised populations and to develop medical guidelines to reduce the risk of adverse health consequences. Therapeutic cannabis, provided based on medical guidance, could improve pain management for socially marginalised populations.

Abstract
Objective Numerous reviews have examined risk and protective factors for alcohol-related negative consequences, but no equivalent review of risk and protective factors exists for cannabis-related negative consequences (CRNCs)-a gap filled by the present study. This scoping review examined survey-based research of risk and protective factors for CRNCs such as neglecting responsibilities, blacking out, or needing more cannabis. Methods Three databases (PubMed, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar) were searched for peer-reviewed manuscripts published between January 1, 1990, and December 31, 2021. A qualitative synthesis was performed using the matrix method and the results were organized using the socioecological model as a framework. Results Eighty-three studies were included in the review. There was considerable variation in measures and operationalizations of CRNCs across studies. Risk factors were identified in the intrapersonal (depression, social anxiety, PTSD, impulsivity, sensation seeking, motives, expectancies), interpersonal/community (trauma, victimization, family and peer substance use, social norms), and social/policy (education, employment, community attachment, legalization, availability of substances) domains of influence. Protective behavioral strategies were a robust protective factor for CRNCs. Males consistently reported more CRNCs than females, but there were no differences observed across race. Conclusions Future research should identify person- and product-specific patterns of CRNCs to refine theoretical models of cannabis misuse and addiction. Public health interventions to reduce the risk of negative consequences from cannabis should consider utilizing multilevel interventions to attenuate the cumulative risk from a combination of psychological, contextual, and social influences.

Abstract
Importance Although perceived as relatively harmless and nonaddictive, adolescent cannabis use significantly increases the likelihood of developing cannabis use disorder in adulthood, especially for high-potency cannabis. Risky decision-making is associated with chronic cannabis use, but given confounds of human studies, it remains unclear whether adolescent cannabis exposure and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) potency specifically predicts risky decision-making or influences cognitive response to the drug later in life. Objective To leverage a human data set of cannabis users and a rat model to evaluate the long-term outcomes of adolescent THC exposure on adult decision-making and impulse control. Design, Setting, and Participants This translational rat study tested the link between adolescent THC exposure and adulthood decision-making. A reanalysis of a previously published dataset of human chronic cannabis users was conducted to evaluate decision-making phenotypes. Computational modeling assessed the human and animal results in a single framework. Data were collected from 2017 to 2020 and analyzed from 2020 to 2022. Main Outcomes and Measures Decision-making was measured by the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) and Rat Gambling Task (rGT). Impulse control was assessed in the rat model. Computational modeling was used to determine reward and punishment learning rates and learning strategy used by cannabis users and THC-exposed rats. Cell-specific molecular measures were conducted in the prefrontal cortex and amygdala. Results Of 37 participants, 24 (65%) were male, and the mean (SD) age was 33.0 (8.3) years. Chronic cannabis users (n = 22; mean [SE] IGT score, -5.182 [1.262]) showed disadvantageous decision-making compared with controls (n = 15; mean [SE] IGT score, 7.133 [2.687]; Cohen d = 1.436). Risky choice was associated with increased reward learning (mean [SE] IGT score: cannabis user, 0.170 [0.018]; control, 0.046 [0.008]; Cohen d = 1.895) and a strategy favoring exploration vs long-term gains (mean [SE] IGT score: cannabis user, 0.088 [0.012]; control, 0.020 [0.002]; Cohen d = 2.218). Rats exposed to high-dose THC but not low-dose THC during adolescence also showed increased risky decision-making (mean [SE] rGT score: vehicle, 46.17 [7.02]; low-dose THC, 69.45 [6.01]; high-dose THC, 21.97 [11.98]; Cohen d = 0.433) and elevated reward learning rates (mean [SE] rGT score: vehicle, 0.17 [0.01]; low-dose THC, 0.10 [0.01]; high-dose THC, 0.24 [0.06]; Cohen d = 1.541) during task acquisition. These animals were also uniquely susceptible to increased cognitive impairments after reexposure to THC in adulthood, which was correlated with even greater reward learning (r = -0.525; P < .001) and a shift in strategy (r = 0.502; P < .001), similar to results seen in human cannabis users. Molecular studies revealed that adolescent THC dose differentially affected cannabinoid-1 receptor messenger RNA expression in the prelimbic cortex and basolateral amygdala in a layer- and cell-specific manner. Further, astrocyte glial fibrillary acidic protein messenger RNA expression associated with cognitive deficits apparent with adult THC reexposure. Conclusions and Relevance In this translational study, high-dose adolescent THC exposure was associated with cognitive vulnerability in adulthood, especially with THC re-exposure. These data also suggest a link between astrocytes and cognition that altogether provides important insights regarding the neurobiological genesis of risky cannabis use that may help promote prevention and treatment efforts.

Identifying risk-thresholds for the association between frequency of cannabis use and development of cannabis use disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis. Abstract
BACKGROUND Cannabis use disorder (CUD) affects one-in-five cannabis users, presenting a major contributor to cannabis-associated disease burden. Epidemiological data identify the frequency of cannabis use as a risk factor for CUD. This review aimed to determine quantifiable risk-thresholds of the frequency of cannabis use for developing CUD. METHODS Systematic search of Medline, EMBASE, PsycInfo, CINAHL, and Web of Science for cohort/case-control studies that assessed the association between frequency of cannabis use and CUD from 2000 to 2022. Effect estimates were converted to risk ratios (RR). A random-effects multi-level multivariate meta-analytic approach was utilized, and sensitivity analyses conducted. Quality of included studies was assessed with the Newcastle Ottawa Scale. RESULTS Six prospective cohort studies were included in this review, drawn from two main source studies. Random-effect modeling showed a significant log-linear dose-response association between the frequency of cannabis use and CUD risk (p < 0.0001). The risk of CUD increased from RR:2.03 (95% CI:1.85-2.22) for 'yearly' use, to RR:4.12 (95% CI:3.44-4.95) for 'monthly" use, RR:8.37 (95% CI:6.37-11.00) for 'weekly' use, and RR:16.99 (95% CI:11.80-24.46) for 'daily' use. Multi-level modeling showed an absolute risk increase (ARI) from 3.5% (95% CI:2.6-4.7) for 'yearly' use, to 8.0% (95% CI:5.3-12.1) for 'monthly' use, to 16.8% (95% CI:8.8-32.0) for 'weekly' use, and 36% (95% CI:27.047.9) for 'daily' use. CONCLUSION A limited risk of CUD as a potential outcome of cannabis use exists even at infrequent levels of use, but significantly increases as frequency of use increases. Corresponding information should be conveyed to cannabis users as part of targeted prevention messaging to promote safer cannabis use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although cannabis use is common in France, it is still criminalized. Cannabidiol (CBD) products, including CBD-rich cannabis, are legally available. Although previous results suggested that CBD may have benefits for people with cannabis use disorder, there is a lack of data on cannabis users who use CBD to reduce their cannabis consumption. We aimed to identify (i) correlates of this motive, and (ii) factors associated with successful attempts to reduce cannabis use. METHODS A cross-sectional online survey among French-speaking CBD and cannabis users was conducted. Logistic regressions were performed to identify correlates of using CBD to reduce cannabis consumption and correlates of reporting a large reduction. RESULTS Eleven percent (n = 105) of our study sample reported they primarily used CBD to reduce cannabis consumption. Associated factors included smoking tobacco cigarettes (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) [95% confidence interval (CI)] 2.17 [1.3-3.62], p = 0.003) and drinking alcohol (aOR [95%CI] 1.8 [1.02-3.18], p = 0.042). Of these 105, 83% used CBD-rich cannabis to smoke, and 58.7% reported a large reduction in cannabis consumption. This large reduction was associated with non-daily cannabis use (aOR [95%CI] 7.14 [2.4-20.0], p < 0.001) and daily CBD use (aOR [95%CI] 5.87 [2.09-16.47], p = 0.001). A reduction in cannabis withdrawal symptoms thanks to CBD use was the most-cited effect at play in self-observed cannabis reduction. CONCLUSIONS Cannabis use reduction is a reported motive for CBD use-especially CBD-rich cannabis to smoke-in France. More studies are needed to explore practices associated with this motive and to accurately assess CBD effectiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cannabis use is common, especially among young people, and is associated with risks for various health harms. Some jurisdictions have recently moved to legalization/regulation pursuing public health goals. Evidence-based 'Lower Risk Cannabis Use Guidelines' (LRCUG) and recommendations were previously developed to reduce modifiable risk factors of cannabis-related adverse health outcomes; related evidence has evolved substantially since. We aimed to review new scientific evidence and to develop comprehensively up-to-date LRCUG, including their recommendations, on this evidence basis. METHODS Targeted searches for literature (since 2016) on main risk factors for cannabis-related adverse health outcomes modifiable by the user-individual were conducted. Topical areas were informed by previous LRCUG content and expanded upon current evidence. Searches preferentially focused on systematic reviews, supplemented by key individual studies. The review results were evidence-graded, topically organized and narratively summarized; recommendations were developed through an iterative scientific expert consensus development process. RESULTS A substantial body of modifiable risk factors for cannabis use-related health harms were identified with varying evidence quality. Twelve substantive recommendation clusters and three precautionary statements were developed. In general, current evidence suggests that individuals can substantially reduce their risk for adverse health outcomes if they delay the onset of cannabis use until after adolescence, avoid the use of high-potency (THC) cannabis products and high-frequency/-intensity of use, and refrain from smoking-routes for administration. While young people are particularly vulnerable to cannabis-related harms, other sub-groups (e.g., pregnant women, drivers, older adults, those with co-morbidities) are advised to exercise particular caution with use-related risks. Legal/regulated cannabis products should be used where possible. CONCLUSIONS Cannabis use can result in adverse health outcomes, mostly among sub-groups with higher-risk use. Reducing the risk factors identified can help to reduce health harms from use. The LRCUG offer one targeted intervention component within a comprehensive public health approach for cannabis use. They require effective audience-tailoring and dissemination, regular updating as new evidence become available, and should be evaluated for their impact.
