Abstract
BACKGROUND Rapid and sensitive detection for acetamiprid, a kind of widely used neonicotinoid insecticide, is very meaningful for the development of modern agriculture and the protection of human health. Highly stable electrochemiluminescence (ECL) materials are one of the key factors in ECL sensing technology. ECL materials prepared by porous materials (e.g., MOFs) coated with chromophores have been used for ECL sensing detection, but these materials have poor stability because the chromophores escape when they are in aqueous solution. Therefore, the development of highly stable ECL materials is of great significance to improve the sensitivity of ECL sensing technology. RESULTS In this work, by combining etched metal-organic frameworks (E-UIO-66-NH2) as carrier with Tris(4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridine)Ru(II) chloride (Ru(dcbpy)32+) as signal probe via amide bonds, highly stable nanocomposites (E-UIO-66-NH2-Ru) with excellent ECL performance were firstly prepared. Then, using MoS2 loaded with AuNPs as substrate material and co-reactant promoter, a signal off-on-off ECL aptamer sensor was prepared for sensitive detection of acetamiprid. Due to the excellent catalytic activity of E-UIO-66-NH2-Ru and MoS2@Au towards K2S2O8, the ECL signals can be enhanced by multiple signal enhancement pathways, the prepared ECL aptamer sensor could achieve sensitive detection of acetamiprid in the linear range of 10-13 to10-7 mol L-1, with the limit of detection (LOD) of 2.78ⅹ10-15 mol L-1 (S/N = 3). After the evaluation of actual sample testing, this sensing platform was proven to be an effective method for the detection of acetamiprid in food and agricultural products. SIGNIFICANCE AND NOVELTY The E-UIO-66-NH2-Ru prepared by linking Ru(dcbpy)32+ to E-UIO-66-NH2 via amide bonding has very high stability. The synergistic catalytic effect of MoS2 and AuNPs enhanced the ECL signal. By exploring the sensing mechanism and evaluating the actual sample tests, the proposed signal "on-off" ECL sensing strategy was proved to be an effective and excellent ECL sensing method for sensitive and stable detection of acetamiprid.

Abstract
Delamination of the exfoliated multilayer MXenes with electro-catalysts, not only leads to increasing surface area for high electrochemiluminescent (ECL) signal tracer loading but also provides highly sensitive achievements in a coreaction accelerator manner. To this end, herein, we used bromophenol blue (BPB)-delaminated multilayer Ti3C2 MXene as both a coreaction accelerator to promote the electrochemiluminescent (ECL) reaction rate of luminol (LUM) and the co-reactant H2O2 and a substrate for retaining high loading of glucose oxidase (GOx)-conjugated polyethylene imine (PEI) along with luminophore species into more open structure of Ti3C2 MXene for sensitive detection of glucose. In the presence of glucose, in situ generating H2O2 product through a GOx-catalyzed process could produce abundant •OH radicals via the peroxidase-like activity of the BPB@Ti3C2 in the LUM ECL reaction. Moreover, decreasing the distance between the high-content LUM into the BPB@Ti3C2 and the generated •OH, minimizes the decomposition of highly active •OH, providing a superb ECL signal. Last, the proximity of incorporated GOx into the delaminated Ti3C2 MXene near the electrode allows efficient electron transfer between the electrode and enzyme. The integration of such amplifying effects endowed high sensitivity and excellent selectivity for glucose with a low limit of detection of 0.02 μM in the wide range of 0.01 μM-40,000 μM, enabling the feasibility of the glucose analysis in human serum samples. Overall, the enhanced ECL based on the BPB@Ti3C2 opens a new horizon to develop highly sensitive MXene-based ECL toward the field of biosensors.

Abstract
Four metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were designed and prepared through a mixed-ligand strategy by controlling the combination of various dicarboxylic acid ligands with invariant center metal and o-phenanthroline heterocyclic ligand. The regulatory effects of ligand electronic band and crystal structure on the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) characteristics of MOFs were verified by experimental results and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The flexible chain structure of MOF-2 promotes electron transfer between MOF electroactive free radicals and the co-reactant, making it show outstanding ECL characteristics among all of the four MOFs with the luminescence quantum efficiency 8.37 times that of tris(bipyridine)-ruthenium(II) ([Ru(bpy)3]2+). Meanwhile, a new ECL mechanism for MOF luminescent crystal materials with reactive oxygen species in solvents as a co-reactant in the aqueous aerobic environment has been proposed. MOF-2 was selected to construct an ECL sensor for the determination of glucose in human urine samples. This study provides a useful idea for the development and design of new luminescent molecular crystal materials.

Abstract
Prostate cancer (PC) is one of the most common tumors and a leading cause of mortality among men, resulting in ~375 000 deaths annually worldwide. Various analytical methods have been designed for quantitative and rapid detection of PC biomarkers. Electrochemical (EC), optical, and magnetic biosensors have been developed to detect tumor biomarkers in clinical and point-of-care (POC) settings. Although POC biosensors have shown potential for detection of PC biomarkers, some limitations, such as the sample preparation, should be considered. To tackle such shortcomings, new technologies have been utilized for development of more practical biosensors. Here, biosensing platforms for the detection of PC biomarkers such as immunosensors, aptasensors, genosensors, paper-based devices, microfluidic systems, and multiplex high-throughput platforms, are discussed.

Abstract
Simple Summary Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most frequently diagnosed malignancy and second most common cause of cancer-related death in males. An early diagnosis is crucial to improve the prognosis. Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) is the most widely used biomarker for PCa, but this type of biomarker analysis is performed in centralized laboratories, delaying the diagnosis and initiation of treatment. Our team has developed a miniaturized platform for portable PSA quantification to overcome this shortcoming. It includes a microfluidic chip, immune capture of PSA by magnetic microbeads, and electrochemical quantification. The utilization of a micro-potentiostat allows PSA levels to be read on a smartphone in less than 30 min. This technique was found to offer a fast, easy, specific, sensitive, and reproducible method for PSA quantification. Further research is warranted to verify these findings and explore its potential application at all health care levels. Abstract We describe a versatile, portable, and simple platform that includes a microfluidic electrochemical immunosensor for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) detection. It is based on the covalent immobilization of the anti-PSA monoclonal antibody on magnetic microbeads retained in the central channel of a microfluidic device. Image flow cytometry and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the magnetic microbeads. A direct sandwich immunoassay (with horseradish peroxidase-conjugated PSA antibody) served to quantify the cancer biomarker in serum samples. The enzymatic product was detected at −100 mV by amperometry on sputtered thin-film electrodes. Electrochemical reaction produced a current proportional to the PSA level, with a linear range from 10 pg mL−1 to 1500 pg mL−1. The sensitivity was demonstrated by a detection limit of 2 pg mL−1 and the reproducibility by a coefficient of variation of 6.16%. The clinical performance of this platform was tested in serum samples from patients with prostate cancer (PCa), observing high specificity and full correlation with gold standard determinations. In conclusion, this analytical platform is a promising tool for measuring PSA levels in patients with PCa, offering a high sensitivity and reduced variability. The small platform size and low cost of this quantitative methodology support its suitability for the fast and sensitive analysis of PSA and other circulating biomarkers in patients. Further research is warranted to verify these findings and explore its potential application at all healthcare levels.

Sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor based on nitrogen-doped porous carbon and nanoporous trimetallic nanozyme (PdAgCu) for determination of prostate specific antigen. Abstract
A sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor was designed for the ultrasensitive detection of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), using Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) modified nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NPC) as sensor platform and trimetallic PdAgCu mesoporous nanospheres (PdAgCu MNSs) as enzyme-mimicking labels. NPC was prepared by a facile one-step pyrolysis strategy of biomimetic phylloid zeolite imidazole framework (ZIF-L) nanosheets. Through this strategy, the graphitization of the microcrystalline structure enhanced the electrical conductivity, while its enlarged specific surface area and abundant pore volume can enrich H2O2 to improve the catalytic efficiency. Moreover, Au NPs were used to modify NPC without cross-linking agents to further optimize electron transport while capturing primary antibodies, improving stability and sensitivity of the immunosensor. PdAgCu MNSs with uniform size, cylindrical open mesoporous channels, and continuous crystal frame structure were self-assembling synthesized by electrostatic adsorption and ascorbic acid (AA) co-reduction with amphiphilic dioctadecyldimethylammonium chloride (DODAC) as surfactant-cum-micelle, whose unique structure maximizes the use of polyatoms to expose catalytic sites, exhibiting good biocompatibility and electrocatalytic ability. Under the optimal conditions, the immunosensor showed superior sensitivity, a wide dynamic detection range (10 fg mL-1 ~ 100 ng mL-1) and a low limit of detection (LOD, 3.29 fg mL-1). This work provides a convenient strategy for the clinical detection of PSA.

Abstract
This work presents a novel signal amplification strategy for electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor based on liposome-assisted chemical redox cycling for in situ formation of Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) on TiO2 nanotubes (TiO2 NTs) electrode. The system was exemplified by ascorbic acid (AA)-loaded liposome, the redox cycling of AA utilizing tris (2-carboxyethyl) phosphine (TCEP) as reductant, and the use of Au nanoclusters (Au NCs)/TiO2 NTs as working electrode to implement the ECL detection of prostate specific antigen (PSA). Specifically, the AA-loaded liposomes were used as tags to label the captured PSA through a sandwich immunoreaction. After the lysate of the liposome was transferred onto the interface of Au NCs/TiO2 NTs in the presence of Au3+ and TECP, the chemical redox cycling was triggered. In the cycling, Au3+ was directly reduced in situ by AA to form Au NPs on Au NCs/TiO2 NTs electrode, whereas the oxidation product of AA was reduced by TCEP to regenerate AA. The large loading capacity of the liposome and chemical redox cycling resulted in the incomplete reduction of the Au NCs to Au NPs on the TiO2 NTs electrode, enhancing the ECL intensity greatly. The multiple signal amplification strategy achieved an ultrasensitive detection for PSA with a detection limit down to 6.7 × 10-15 g mL-1 and a wide linear concentration range from 1.0 × 10-14 to 1.0 × 10-8 g mL-1. It is believed that this work is anticipated to extend the employment of advanced chemical redox cycling reaction in the field of ECL bioassays.

Abstract
UiO-66, as a member of the MOFs families, is widely employed in sensing, drug release, separation, and adsorption due to its large specific surface area, uniform pore size, easy functionalization, and excellent stability. Especially in electrochemical biosensors, UiO-66 has demonstrated excellent adsorption capacity and response signal, which significantly improves the sensitivity and specificity of detection. However, the existing application research remains in its infancy, lacking systematic methods, and recycling utilization and exclusive sensing of UiO-66 still require further improvement. Therefore, one of the present research objectives is to explore the breakthrough point of existing technologies and optimize the performance of UiO-66-based electrochemical biosensors (UiO-66-EBs). In this work, we summarized current experimental methods and detection mechanisms of UiO-66-EBs in environmental detection, food safety, and disease diagnosis, analyzed the existing problems, and proposed some suggestions to provide new ideas for future research.

Abstract
A silver nanoparticle-doped Zn(ii) metal–organic framework composite (AgNPs@ZnMOF) was investigated as an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal enhancer for potassium persulfate. First, ZnMOF was prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method, and then AgNPs@ZnMOF composite was obtained by depositing AgNPs on the surface and interior of ZnMOF. After the AgNPs@ZnMOF composite was modified on the glass carbon electrode (GCE), the cathode luminescence of potassium persulfate on bare GCE was enhanced by 8 times. A dual amplification mechanism provided by Zn(ii) and Ag nanoparticles in the AgNPs@ZnMOF composite has been validated by ECL spectra, fluorescence spectra, and electrochemical methods. The interaction between the sulfhydryl groups in l-cysteine (l-Cys) and AgNPs significantly affects the catalytic luminescence of the AgNPs@ZnMOF composite. Thus, a sensitive ECL method for the determination of l-Cys was developed based on the inhibition effect of l-Cys on the ECL signal within the linear range from 5.0 nM to 1.0 μM and the limit of detection was found to be 2 nM (S/N = 3). The established method has been successfully applied to the determination of l-Cys in human urine. A silver nanoparticle-doped Zn(ii) metal–organic framework composite (AgNPs@ZnMOF) was investigated as an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal enhancer for potassium persulfate.![]()

Abstract
A novel dual-sensitization electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor for the detection of tumour protein prostate specific antigen (PSA) at trace level using Ru(bpy)3 2+ -doped chitosan/SiO2 nanoparticles (Ru(bpy)3 2+ /chitosan/SiO2 NPs) as the first signal enhancers was fabricated. Due to chitosan with excellent pore forming capacity, these nanoparticles possess porous structures and better photopermeability, and therefore have higher luminescence efficiencies compared with Ru(bpy)3 2+ /SiO2 NPs reported in previous publications. Conversely, chitosan with good biocompatibility and high hydrophilicity was electrochemically decorated onto a Nafion/multiwall carbon nanotubes (Nafion/MWNTs) modified electrode surface and used as the second sensitizing matrix to seize large amounts of prostate specific capture antibody (Ab1 ). The chitosan-decorated Nafion/MWNTs composites exhibited a 5.5-times higher ECL intensity than the unadorned Nafion/MWNTs films. Also, without additional reagents, such as (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTS), the one-step functionalized Ru(bpy)3 2+ /chitosan/SiO2 NPs provided a large number of active arms to connect with PSA-detected antibodies (Ab2 ) through the amino groups in chitosan. After a sandwich immunoreaction, the PSA antigen and Ru(bpy)3 2+ /chitosan/SiO2 NPs-labelled Ab2 were sequentially captured onto the Ab1 /chitosan/Nafion/MWNTs-modified electrode surface. The ECL signal increases were linearly related to the PSA antigen concentrations and ranged from 0.01 pg·mLl-1 to 10.0 pg·mLl-1 . Under the optimized experimental conditions, the immunosensor displayed excellent sensitivity and selectivity. The detection limit was as low as 3.4 fg·mLl-1 , equivalent to, or better than, those of the reported ECL immunosensors for PSA.

Abstract
Early monitoring of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is crucial in diagnosis and proactive treatment of prostate disease. Herein, a dual-quenching ternary ECL immunosensor was designed for PSA detection based on graphitic carbon nitride quantum dots (g-CNQDs, as an emitter), potassium persulfate (K2S2O8, as a coreactant), and silver nanoparticles doped multilayer Ti3C2 MXene hybrids (Ag@TCM, as a coreaction accelerator). First, Ag@TCM was immobilized on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode, then g-CNQDs was further adsorbed on Ag@TCM to acquire a higher initial ECL signal at a potential window from - 1.3 to 0.0 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). Ag@TCM not only acted as the coreaction accelerator, but also as a matrix to load enormous g-CNQDs and prostate-specific capture antibody via Ag-N bond. Meanwhile, prostate-specific detection antibody was marked by gold nanoparticles modified manganese dioxide as a dual-quenching probe (Ab2- Au@MnO2). When Ab2-Au@MnO2 was introduced into the ternary ECL system via sandwiched immuno-reaction, the high-sensitive detection of PSA was achieved by the dual-quenching effect, caused by the resonant energy transfer from g-CNQDs (energy donor) to Au@MnO2 (energy acceptor). As a result, this ECL immunosensor showed a good dynamic concentration range from 10 fg·mL-1 to 100 ng·mL-1 with a detection limit of 6.9 fg·mL-1 for PSA detection. The dual-quenching ECL strategy presented high stability and good specificity to open up a new pathway for ultrasensitive immunoassay.

Abstract
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, and its early detection is vital to saving the lives of patients. In this research, a novel label-free photoelectrochemical immunosensor was designed for sensitive detection of prostate specific antigen (PSA). Ag2S sensitized on Ag/AgBr/BiOBr heterojunction could effectively inhibit photogenic holes recombination and improve photocurrent response and sensitivity. Ascorbic acid was an effective electron donor, which can effectively eliminate photo-generated holes. The photocurrent reduced linearly with the logarithm of PSA concentration ranged from 0.001 to 50 ng·mL-1 and the limit of detection was 0.25 pg·mL-1. The designed sensor had the advantages of wide linear range, good stability, high reproducibility, and good selectivity. This study not only provided a method for efficient and sensitive detection of PSA, but also provided valuable reference ideas for the detection of other tumor markers.

Abstract
Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) can be produced through two main routes: annihilation route and coreactant route. The vast majority of applications of ECL are based on coreactant ECL which can be generated in aqueous media at relatively low potentials compared with organic solvents. However, the development of more efficient ECL systems remains a compelling goal. Co-reaction accelerator (CRA) can significantly enhance the ECL signal through promoting more production of the coreactant intermediate. Compared with other ECL enhancement strategies, the CRA protocol is distinctive owing to its diverse, simple, and highly effective features. Various species such as inorganic compound, organic compound, and nanomaterials (NMs) have been developed as CRA and NM CRA has gained particular attention owing to their unique properties of excellent catalytic behavior and large surface area. By integration with the inherent advantages of ECL, bioanalysis based on CRA-enhanced ECL showed excellent performance such as ultrahigh sensitivity, wide dynamic range, low cost, simple instrumentation, and measurements in complex media. It has been extensively applied in various fields including clinical diagnosis, environmental monitoring, and food safety. Therefore, it is of great interest to present a systematic and critical review on the advances in ECL CRA. Herein, the recent progress on CRA and its applications in ECL bioanalysis are summarized by illustrating some representative work and a discussion of the future development trends of CRA ECL is offered.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as porous materials have attracted much attention in various fields such as gas storage, catalysis, separation, and nanomedical engineering. However, their applications in electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensing are limited due to the poor conductivity, lack of modification sites, low stability and specificity, and weak biocompatibility. Integrating the functional materials into MOF structures endows MOF composites with improved conductivity and stability and facilitates the design of ECL sensors with multifunctional MOFs, which are potentially advantageous over their individual components. This review summarizes the strategies for designing ECL-active MOF composites including using luminophore as a ligand, in situ encapsulation of luminophore within the framework, and post-synthetic modification. As-prepared MOF composites can serve as innovative emitters, luminophore carriers, electrode modification materials and co-reaction accelerators in ECL biosensors. The sensing applications of ECl-active MOF composites in the past five years are highlighted including immunoassays, genosensors, and small molecule detection. Finally, the prospects and challenges associated with MOF composites and their related materials for ECL biosensing are tentatively proposed.

Abstract
In this work, a triple-amplified biosensor with a bioactivity-maintained peculiarity was constructed for quantitative procalcitonin (PCT) detection. As everyone knows, a strong electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal is the premise to ensure high sensitivity for trace target detection. Hence, a valid tactic was developed to achieve signal amplification of luminophor by using Co2+-based metal-organic frameworks (ZIF-67) and silver-cysteine (AgCys). The ZIF-67 particles, which have more atomically dispersed Co2+, could play the role of a co-reaction accelerator to catalyze S2O82- to generate abundant Co3+ and sulfate radical anions (SO4•-). Afterward, a mass of Co3+ was reduced to more hydroxyl radicals (OH•) by H2O, thus ulteriorly reducing S2O82- to generate more SO4•-. Remarkably, S2O82- was reduced to SO4•- continuously with the recycling of Co2+ and Co3+, which realized an effective signal amplification. Meanwhile, the AgCys complex with superior catalysis and biocompatibility was prepared to further improve the ECL signal and maintain the bioactivity of the biomolecule. Furthermore, HWRGWVC, a heptapeptide that was used for combining the Fc fragments of an antibody by Au-S bonding to achieve the fixed point fixation, could not only maintain bioactivity of an antibody but also improved its incubation efficiency, thus further enhancing biosensor sensitivity. Under optimum conditions, the proposed biosensor realized highly sensitive assay for PCT with a wide dynamic range from 10 fg/mL to 100 ng/mL and a detection limit as low as 3.67 fg/mL. With superior stability, selectivity, and repeatability, the prepared biosensor revealed immense potential application of ultrasensitive assay for PCT in human serum.

Abstract
Prostate cancer is one of the most dangerous and deadly cancers in elderly men. Early diagnosis using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) facilitates disease detection, management and treatment. Biosensors have recently been used as sensitive, selective, inexpensive and rapid diagnostic tools for PSA detection. In this review, a variety of PSA biosensors such as aptasensors, peptisensors and immunesensors are highlighted. These use aptamers, peptides and antibodies in the biorecognition element, respectively, and can detect PSA with very high sensitivity via electrochemical, electrochemiluminescence, fluorescence and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. To improve the sensitivity of most of these PSA biosensors, different nanostructured materials have played a critical role.

Abstract
In traditional electrochemiluminescence (ECL) analysis, gold nanomaterials are commonly used as a tool for signal amplification and linking antibodies due to their good electrical conductivity and biocompatibility. Here, we found that multitipped gold nanoparticles-gold nanoflowers (AuNFs) as coreactant accelerator have good catalytic activity for the reduction of dissolved oxygen (O2) to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) using tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (Tris) as electron donor. Based on this, a new enzyme-free and label-free ECL immunosensor have been constructed for the detection of α-fetoprotein (AFP). In this system, due to the unique geometric and spatial effects of AuNFs, the dissolved O2 as endogenous coreactant was catalyzed by AuNFs to produce H2O2 using Tris as an electron donor. The in situ generated H2O2 can more efficiently produce various electrogenerated reactive oxygen species (ROSs) as the important intermediates on the electrode surface. Then, oxidation of luminol reacts with ROSs significantly amplifies the luminol ECL signal. Under optimal experimental conditions, the proposed ECL immunosensor was able to detect the AFP concentration from 0.01 to 100 ng mL-1, with a low detection limit of 3.4 pg mL-1 (S/N = 3). In addition, the prepared ITO-based sensor is similar to a micro-test chip and convenient to use, thus making it suitable for clinical use as a disposable device in point-of-care tests (POCTs).
