Abstract
In recent years, environmental concerns regarding the persistence of petroleum-based plastic food packaging have increased, prompting the exploration of biopolymer alternatives. Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), a derivative of chitosan, exhibits superior water-soluble film properties, making it an ideal material for degradable food packaging applications. This study comprehensively examines the synthesis methods and properties of CMCS, with a particular emphasis on recent advancements in CMCS-based food packaging films. Various functionalized CMCS-based food packaging films, including coblended, nanoparticle composite, plant extract composite, and cross-linked films, were reviewed. The practical applications of CMCS-based food packaging films and edible coatings in food preservation are also showcased. This study emphasizes that the notable compatibility of CMCC with a range of polymers and additives has facilitated the development of multifunctional packaging films. These innovations, including antibacterial, antioxidant, and smart-indicating variants, have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in preserving fruits, aquatic products, poultry, and other perishable goods.

Abstract
Tissue engineering for penile corpora cavernosa defects requires microvascular system reconstruction.GelMA hydrogels show promise for tissue regeneration. However, using stem cells faces challenges such as immune rejection, limited proliferation and differentiation, and biosafety concerns. Therefore, acellular tissue regeneration may avoid these issues. Exosomes are used from muscle-derived stem cells (MDSCs) to modify 3D-printed hydrogel scaffolds for acellular tissue regeneration. Hypoxia-preconditioned MDSC-derived exosomes are obtained to enhance the therapeutic effect. In contrast to normoxic exosomes (N-Exos), hypoxic exosomes (H-Exos) are found to markedly enhance the proliferation, migration, and capillary-like tube formation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). High-throughput sequencing analysis of miRNAs isolated from both N-Exos and H-Exos revealed a significant upregulation of miR-21-5p in H-Exos following hypoxic preconditioning. Further validation demonstrated that the miR-21-5p/PDCD4 pathway promoted the proliferation of HUVECs. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is introduced to improve the mechanical properties and biocompatibility of GelMA hydrogels. EGCG-GelMA scaffolds loaded with different types of Exos are transplanted to repair rabbit penile corpora cavernosa defects, observed the blood flow and repair status of the defect site through color Doppler ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, and ultimately restored the rabbit penile erection function and successfully bred offspring. Thus, acellular hydrogel scaffolds offer an effective treatment for penile corpora cavernosa defects.

Abstract
The study presents a new class of eco-friendly and biodegradable biomass-based multifunctional antibacterial packaging films (G-OCSI) based on oxidized corn starch-based nonionic biopolymer (OCSI) and gelatin (Gel), and investigates the effects of different OCSI contents on the properties of G-OCSI. The results demonstrated that G-OCSI 0.25 had good water vapor barrier properties, antioxidant activity (DPPH RSA: 85.84 %), UV resistance (UV blocking > 99.9 %), water resistance (WCA: 122.30°), and tensile properties. Based on the disk diffusion experiment, G-OCSI exhibited significant bactericidal and antibacterial effects against S. aureus and E. coli. Moreover, G-OCSI had good biodegradability in natural environments, and could obviously accelerate the crops growth. Finally, a banana preservation experiment confirmed that G-OCSI could significantly extend the shelf life of bananas at room temperature at least 3 days. The biodegradable packaging films not only realizes the sustainable utilization of biomass resources but also has the potential to replace traditional petroleum-based plastics.

Abstract
Treating the most widespread complication of diabetes: diabetic wounds poses a significant clinical obstacle due to the intricate nature of wound healing in individuals with diabetes. Here a novel approach is proposed using easily applicable injectable gelatin/metal/tea polyphenol double nanonetworks, which effectively remodel the wound microenvironment and accelerates the healing process. The gelatin(Gel) crosslink with metal ions (Zr4+ ) through the amino acids, imparting advantageous mechanical properties like self-healing, injectability, and adhesion. The nanonetwork's biological functions are further enhanced by incorporating the tea polyphenol metal nanonetwork through in situ doping of the epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) with great antibacterial, self-healing, antioxidant, and anticancer capabilities. The in vitro and in vivo tests show that this double nanonetworks hydrogel exhibits faster cell migration and favorable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can greatly reshape the microenvironment of diabetic wounds and accelerate the wound healing rate. In addition, this hydrogel is completely degraded after subcutaneous injection for 7 days, with nondetectable cytotoxicity in H&E staining of major mice organs and the serum level of liver function indicators. Considering the above-mentioned merits of this hydrogel, it is believed that the injectable gelatin/metal/tea polyphenol double nanonetworks have broad biomedical potential, especially in diabetic wound repair and tissue engineering.

Abstract
Diabetic wound therapy presents significant challenges in the clinical environment, where persistent bleeding, disturbed inflammatory regulation, impaired cellular proliferation, and impaired tissue remodeling are major features of diabetic wound healing. However, current treatment strategies need to be considered in the context of the dynamic and complex needs of chronic wound healing. Here, multifunctional dynamic boronic acid cross-linked hydrogels were prepared by the reaction of gelatin (Gel) inoculated with 5-carboxy 3-nitrophenylboronic acid (NPBA) and Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) to achieve rapid gelation at pH = 7.4, EGCG could interact electrostatically with cationic antimicrobial peptides (AMP) to achieve the effective loading of AMP in the hydrogels. This hydrogel can be injected and adhered to skin defects in diabetic patients to provide a barrier and rapid hemostasis. In a high glucose microenvironment, the rapid release of AMP effectively kills bacteria, while the responsive release of EGCG eliminates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and promotes macrophage M2 polarization. In addition, the hydrogel had excellent biocompatibility and degradability properties, degraded completely after 3 days of subcutaneous injection, and was non-toxic in H&E staining of major organs and serum liver function indices in mice. This multifunctional injectable hydrogel accelerates diabetic skin wound repair and is a promising dressing for the precise treatment of diabetic wounds.

Abstract
In this study, chitosan (CS) was conjugated with epicatechin gallate (ECG) to prepare CS-ECG conjugates with different substitution degrees (5.18 %, 6.36 % and 7.74 %). Then, antioxidant packaging films were fabricated by blending CS and CS-ECG conjugates. The impact of CS-ECG conjugates' substitution degree on the functionality of CS/CS-ECG films was determined. CS-ECG conjugates showed UV absorption at 275 nm, proton signal at 6.85 ppm and infrared absorption at 1533 cm-1, assigning to the conjugated ECG. As compared with CS, CS-ECG conjugates exhibited less crystalline state but higher antioxidant activity. The structural characterization of CS/CS-ECG films showed CS and CS-ECG conjugates formed hydrogen bonds. CS/CS-ECG films displayed 26.35 %-29.23 % water solubility, 85.61°-86.96° water contact angle, 3.11-3.41 × 10-11 g m-1 s-1 Pa-1 water vapor permeability, 0.29-0.34 cm3 mm m-2 day-1 atm-1 oxygen permeability, 31.54-36.20 MPa tensile strength, 50.12 %-56.40 % elongation at break, as well as potent antioxidant activity and oil oxidation inhibitory ability. Notably, the film containing CS-ECG conjugate with 7.74 % substitution degree had the strongest barrier ability, mechanical property, antioxidant activity and oil oxidation inhibitory ability. Results suggested the substitution degree of CS-ECG conjugates was positively correlated with the barrier, mechanical and antioxidant properties of CS/CS-ECG films.

Abstract
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) exhibits antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory properties; however, low cellular permeability and stability limit its bioavailability. Liposomes have the potential for enhancing bioactive compounds' bioavailability. Yet, low entrapment efficiency (EE) and burst release of hydrophilic substances make them impractical for food industry use. Here, we incorporated gelatin into liposomes to overcome these limitations. EGCG-loaded conventional liposomes (EGCG/CLs) and gelatinized-core liposomes (EGCG/GLs) had small particle sizes and high absolute zeta potentials. Encapsulation in EGCG/GLs significantly improved the EE of EGCG compared to that in EGCG/CLs (p < 0.05). EGCG/GLs retained EGCG in the hydrophilic region, whereas EGCG/CLs exhibited significantly higher release of EGCG during storage (p < 0.05). Additionally, in comparison to EGCG/CLs, gelatin incorporation significantly enhanced the sustained release, cellular permeability, and cellular antioxidant activity of EGCG (p < 0.05). This study emphasizes the capability of gelatinized-core liposomes as a potent delivery system for enhancing the stability and bioavailability of EGCG/CLs, broadening the prospects for utilizing them in the food industry.

Abstract
Food packaging made of biobased materials is environmentally friendly, among which starch film is a type of biobased packaging with great development value. Some existing studies have attempted to add polydopamine (PDA) to enhance cross-linking, but there are still problems such as weakness and hydrophilicity, which greatly limit its application. Therefore, this study synthesized rosin based quaternary ammonium salt-modified cornstarch (ST-B), which was used to replace part of unmodified cornstarch (ST). In the prepared ST/PDA0.5/ST-B5 film, the introduction of a rigid rosin structure increased the stress and water contact angle of the ST/PDA0.5 film by 62 % and 26 %, respectively, while reducing its wettability and WVP; thus, further enhancing its antioxidant activity. Due to the antibacterial ability of rosin quaternary ammonium cations, the packaging film containing 7 wt% ST-B can kill >94.6 % of S. aureus and 99.9 % of E. coli, and can also extend the shelf life of strawberries. In addition, it is proven that the packaging film has good biocompatibility and high safety within cytotoxicity tests and 30-day gavage tests in mice. Therefore, the prepared ST/PDA/ST-B film has more potential for application in food preservation.

Abstract
Starch has great potential to replace petroleum-based plastics in food packaging applications. However, starch films often exhibit poor mechanical and barrier properties, and are vulnerable to moisture and bacterial contamination. This study proved that the incorporation of eggshell powder (ES) enhanced the hydrogen bonding in starch-based films significantly, which contributed to improved tensile strength, Young's modulus, and water resistance of the films. The performance of ES-incorporated films could be optimized by adjusting the size, concentration, and surface property of ES in the film matrix. Notably, adsorbing epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on the surface of porous ES contributed to enhanced dispersibility of the fillers in the film matrix, which increased the tortuous path of light, water vapor, and oxygen have to take through the films, resulting in increased UV screening performance, water vapor and oxygen barrier property of the films by 60 %, 7.2 %, and 27.9 %, respectively. Meanwhile, loading EGCG in ES also enable superior antibacterial activity of the final films. This study suggests that eggshell fillers offer a sustainable means of improving the functional performance of starch-based films, which may increase their application as packaging materials in the food industry.

Abstract
In this study, gelatin-chitosan (GEL-CS) composite films added with 0.1 %, 0.2 %, and 0.3 % Cyclocarya paliurus flavonoids (CPF) were prepared. Then their appearance properties, mechanical properties, barrier properties, microstructure, thermal stability properties, antioxidant activity, and antibacterial properties were investigated. As compared with GEL-CS film, the GEL-CS films with CPF were darker in color, had higher water vapor barrier, higher elongation at break, and higher thermal stability. Additionally, microstructure analysis with Fourier infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction demonstrated that hydrogen bonding was the main force for cross-linking CPF with other membrane substrates. Moreover, the addition of CPF strengthened the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of the membranes. These results indicated that the CPF addition could endow membranes with more excellent functional properties and bioactivity, accompanied by environmentally friendly and edible features. The GEL-CS-CPF composite film would be a potential and prospective packing material for food preservation applications.

Abstract
In most circumstances, wounds face the challenges of bacterial invasions and inappropriate inflammatory responses when they lack proper wound management. Endowing dressings with both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory functions is a compelling strategy for resolving the above issues. However, seizing the right moment to change the dressings and providing satisfactory management of wounds are still urgently required. Herein, an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory nanofibrous mat is proposed by encapsulating antibiotic gentamicin sulfate (GS) and anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen (IB) into nanofibers via a coaxial electrospinning technique and is further decorated with Prussian blue nanocrystals (PBNCs) to enhance anti-inflammatory activity and, more importantly, to monitor bacterial infections and guide dressing changes in a timely manner. Such a nanofibrous mat releases most of the therapeutic drugs within 120 min and reveals excellent antibacterial activity and anti-inflammatory ability. Specifically, it can destroy both Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli), as well as conspicuously reduce the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in macrophages. In addition, the nanofibrous mat can be used for point-of-use diagnosis of living bacteria relying on the naked eye or color analysis, which exhibits the potential of monitoring wound infection and guiding dressing changes promptly. This finding demonstrates the theranostic applications of multifunctional nanofibrous mats in wound healing.

Abstract
An intelligent pH-sensing indicator containing Roselle (Hibiseus sabdariffa L.) (RS) anthocyanin and curcumin (CR) was developed and characterized as on-package indicator tags to check the freshness of shrimp during the storage at 4°C. FE-SEM and FT-IR analysis showed that RS and CR were successfully immobilized in the gelatin-glycerol film-forming substrate. The addition of various natural dyes increased the thickness and antioxidant action of the colorimetric film. To assess the response to changes in the pH, the colorimetric film was immersed in different buffers. Based on volatile amines secreted by shrimp, a test application of a colorimetric film containing natural dyes at a ratio of CR:RS = 1:4 (v/v) was conducted in shrimp at 4°C. The total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) and the pH of shrimp were monitored during refrigerated storage for 10 days, and the color changes of the indicator were recorded simultaneously. The results indicated that the designed colorimetric film could produce various colors, which are thought to be indicative of the freshness and spoilage of packaged shrimp. Therefore, the target film can be utilized as a promising smart packaging material for monitoring the freshness of shrimp and aquatic products in real time.

Abstract
The application of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in food industry was limited by its low stability in aqueous solutions and poor bioavailability in vivo. The novel EGCG glycosylated arachin nanoparticles (Ara-CMCS-EGCG) and EGCG glycosylated casein nanoparticles (Cas-CMCS-EGCG) were prepared to improve the stability and bioavailability of EGCG. The effect of different variables on the storage stability and the slow-release behavior of novel glycosylation complexes in nanoparticle background solution and artificial gastrointestinal fluid were investigated. The results showed that the DPPH scavenging activity of Ara-CMCS-EGCG and Cas-CMCS-EGCG were stable in temperature (25 ∼ 70 °C). EGCG could enhance the crosslinking effect of molecular particles in glycosylation complexes solution. The glycosylated protein nanoparticles were stable to acid-base and enzymolysis in simulated gastrointestinal fluid. The release rate of EGCG in simulated intestinal fluid was higher than that in simulated gastric fluid. The glycosylated protein carrier can not only release EGCG slowly, but also significantly improve the stability and bioavailability of EGCG in simulated gastrointestinal fluid.

Abstract
Glycosylated protein nano encapsulation was an efficient encapsulation technology, but its embedding rate for EGCG was not high, and the research on the embedding mechanism was relatively weak. Based on this, this study compared the embedding effect of glycosylated peanut globulin and glycosylated casein on EGCG. The embedding mechanism of EGCG with glycosylated protein was discussed by ultraviolet, fluorescence, infrared and fluorescence microscopy. Results revealed that the highest encapsulation efficiency of EGCG was 93.89 ± 1.11%. The neutral pH value and 0.3 mg/mL EGCG addition amount were suitable for EGCG glycosylated nanocomposites. The hydrogen bond between EGCG hydroxyl group and tyrosine and tryptophan of glycosylated protein is mainly non covalent. The encapsulation effect of EGCG glycosylated nanocomposites could be quenched by changing the polar environment and spatial structure of the group. The fluorescence characteristic and dispersibility of EGCG glycosylated peanut globin were higher than EGCG glycosylated casein. This study might provide a theoretical basis for EGCG microencapsulation technology and EGCG application in tea beverage and liquid tea food systems.

Abstract
“Boba balls” or pearls have recently gained popularity for beverages or food toppings. “Boba balls” could be developed into functional foods by the encapsulation of bioactive compounds. In this study, gelatin/sodium alginate composite “Boba balls” enriched with pomegranate peel extract (PPE) at different concentrations (0, 1, 2, and 3%) were prepared. They were characterized in terms of physical, rheological, textural, morphological, and sensory properties, as well as in vitro digestion, bio-accessibility, and release kinetic of PPE. Adding PPE improved the “Boba” mix’s viscoelasticity and decreased the “Boba balls”’ hardness. The increasing PPE ratio significantly (p < 0.05) increased the antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content. The addition of PPE preserved the spherical shape of the “Boba balls”, and as the PPE ratio increased, new junction zones were observed in SEM images. The in vitro digestibility of PPE was significantly (p < 0.05) improved by preserving PPE from the mouth and gastric medium, and “Boba balls” showed the highest release and bio-accessibility in the intestinal medium. Consequently, PPE as a by-product could be successfully used at 2% concentration for enhancing the functionality and bio-accessibility of “Boba balls” without affecting sensory properties.

Abstract
The development of bio-based food packaging with antioxidant properties is an important research topic and has gained prominence these days. In this study, bioactive films were developed based gelatin-corn starch (GCS) incorporated with corn stigma extract (CSE) at different concentrations (15% and 25%; w/v). In preliminary tests, the extract maintained cell viability above 90% indicating that it is safe for application as an active ingredient. Insertion of the extract did not influence the thickness of the films but caused a slight change in optical properties. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed interactions between the extract's bioactive compounds with gelatin and corn starch compounds, which may have improved the mechanical properties (elongation at break, Young's modulus). The addition of 25% corn stigma extract increased the contact angle, giving the film a hydrophobic character. Furthermore, at this concentration, a 15% reduction in water vapor permeability was observed. The elaborated films showed complete biodegradability before the tenth day of the study. It can be inferred that the films with corn stigma extract have good antioxidant properties, indicating that they can be used as an ingredient for food packaging.

Abstract
Strain-tolerant reversible adhesion under harsh mechanical deformation is important for realizing long-lasting polymeric adhesives. Despite recent advances, cohesive failure within adhesives remains a critical problem that must be solved to achieve adhesion that is robust against humidity, heat, and mechanical stress. Here, we report a molecular rationale for designing an instantaneous polymeric adhesive with high strain tolerance (termed as iPASTE) even in a stretchable human-machine interface. The iPASTE consists of two biocompatible and eco-friendly polymers, linearly oligomerized green tea extracts, and poly(ethylene glycol) for densely assembled networks via dynamic and reversible hydrogen bonds. Other than the typical approach containing nanoclay or branched adhesive precursors, the linear configuration and conformation of such polymer chains within iPASTE lead to strong and moisture-resistant cohesion/adhesion. Based on the strain-tolerant adhesion of iPASTE, it was demonstrated that a subaqueous interactive human-machine interface integrated with a robot arm and a gold nanomembrane strain-sensitive electronic skin can precisely capture a slithery artificial fish by using finger gesture recognition.

Abstract
The properties of gelatin film fabricated by ethanol precipitation effect dehydration, Hofmeister effect dehydration and hot air drying dehydration were investigated. The results revealed that the mechanical properties were significantly improved by ethanol precipitation and Hofmeister effect. The tensile strength and elongation at break of the film prepared by ethanol precipitation were increased by 83.28% (20% gelatin concentration) and 122.42% (5% gelatin concentration) respectively compared with that of hot air-dried gelatin film. The water contact angle was increased and water solubility was reduced by ethanol precipitation, which could attribute to the formation of compact structure, more triple helix content, and non-covalent interactions. However, the water contact angle of Hofmeister effect fabricated films was decreased compared with that of hot air drying owing to the adhesion of ammonium sulfate. Moreover, ethanol precipitation effect improved the color difference and opacity due to the ethanol decolorization effect.

Abstract
The protein degradation, flavor and micromolecule metabolites changes of (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)-gelatin biofilm treatment (EGT) on chilled tilapia fillets in 21 days were investigated. Morphology observations revealed EGT protected good connective myofibrillar protein. It maintained protein secondary structure by significantly increasing the proportion of α-helix (15.20%) and decreasing the ratio of random coils (22.02%) in the EGT group compared to the control (CON) group (P < 0.05). Metabolomics with UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS analysis indicated a distinct separation between the CON and treatment groups at the end of storage. Small peptides analysis demonstrated that the EGT group increased the level of sweet peptides. Additionally, the EGT group significantly reduced the formation of amino acid derivatives and esters and off-flavor development. Overall, EGT effectively improved flavor, inhibited fish protein oxidation/degradation, and verified metabolomics results. This study unveiled the potential of metabolomics to analyze metabolites determined by tilapia and monitor the changes during storage.

Abstract
While antioxidants are widely known as natural components of healthy food and drinks or as additives to commercial polymer materials to prevent their degradation, recent years have seen increasing interest in enhancing the antioxidant functionality of newly developed polymer materials and coatings. This paper provides a critical overview and comparative analysis of multiple ways of integrating antioxidants within diverse polymer materials, including bulk films, electrospun fibers, and self-assembled coatings. Polyphenolic antioxidant moieties with varied molecular architecture are in the focus of this Review, because of their abundance, nontoxic nature, and potent antioxidant activity. Polymer materials with integrated polyphenolic functionality offer opportunities and challenges that span from the fundamentals to their applications. In addition to the traditional blending of antioxidants with polymer materials, developments in surface grafting and assembly via noncovalent interaction for controlling localization versus migration of antioxidant molecules are discussed. The versatile chemistry of polyphenolic antioxidants offers numerous possibilities for programmed inclusion of these molecules in polymer materials using not only van der Waals interactions or covalent tethering to polymers, but also via their hydrogen-bonding assembly with neutral molecules. An understanding and rational use of interactions of polyphenol moieties with surrounding molecules can enable precise control of concentration and retention versus delivery rate of antioxidants in polymer materials that are critical in food packaging, biomedical, and environmental applications.

Abstract
Phenolic compounds are commonly incorporated into muscle foods to inhibit lipid oxidation and modify product flavor. Those that are present in or extracted from plant sources (seeds, leaves, and stems) known as "phytophenols" are of particular importance in the current meat industry due to natural origins, diversity, and safety record. Apart from these primary roles as antioxidants and flavorings, phytophenols are now recognized to be chemically reactive with a variety of food constituents, including proteins. In processed muscle foods, where the structure-forming ability is critical to a product's texture-related quality attributes and palatability, the functional properties of proteins, especially gelation and emulsification, play an essential role. A vast amount of recent studies has been devoted to protein-phenol interactions to investigate the impact on meat product texture and flavor. Considerable efforts have been made to elucidate the specific roles of phytophenol interaction with "myoproteins" (i.e., muscle-derived proteins) probing the structure-forming process in cooked meat products. The present review provides an insight into the actions of phytophenols in modifying and interacting with muscle proteins with an emphasis on the reaction mechanisms, detection methods, protein functionality, and implications for structural characteristics and textural properties of muscle foods.

Abstract
Gelatin and tragacanth were employed to fabricate antimicrobial nanocomposites with 1, 3, and 5% zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs). FT-IR and XRD proved new chemical interactions among GEL/TGC/ZnO-NPs and higher crystallinity of nanocomposites, respectively. DSC showed a significant increase in melting point temperature (Tm) from ~ 90 to ~ 93-101 °C after adding 1-5% ZnO-NPs. Ultimate tensile strength (UTS) was remarkably increased to 31.21, 34.57, and 35.06 MPa, as well as Young's Modulus to 287.44, 335.47, and 367.04 MPa after incorporating 1, 3, and 5% ZnO-NPs. The ZnO-NPs dose-dependently reduced the water vapor permeability (WVP) of the films. FE-SEM analysis from surface and cross-section illustrated the compact and homogenous structure of the nanocomposites even up to 5% ZnO-NPs. The ZnO-NPs-containing nanocomposites had a good antimicrobial activity (~10-20 mm) against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Generally, the results indicated that the prepared nanocomposite films are promising antimicrobial bio-materials for food packaging.

Abstract
A kind of biomaterial with antibacterial and mechanical properties was prepared using gelatin (GE) as a raw material. GE was modified by antibacterial epoxy quaternary ammonium salt (QAS) and then cross-linked with tannic acid (TA). Analysis of the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results showed that the cationic group was grafted onto GE by reaction of the amino of GE with the epoxy of QAS, and the cross-linking occurred between the amino of GE and the active groups of TA under alkaline conditions. The cross-linking degree was determined by the fluorescence method via a derivative reaction of fluorescamin. The influence of the cross-linking degree on the physical and chemical properties of the GE film was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and mechanical testing. The results showed that the modified GE film formed a compact cross-linking structure, and its thermostability and mechanical properties were improved with increasing cross-linking degree. The in vitro antibacterial rate of the cross-linked cationic GE film to Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) reached 95.83% and 100% respectively, and the in vitro cell relative growth rate (RGR) of HeLa cells cultured in the extracted leachate of the cross-linked cationic GE film exceeded 85%, which illustrated that the modified GE film had excellent antibacterial activity and biocompatibility.

Abstract
Catechins, amino acids, and alkaloids are primary chemical components of tea and play a crucial role in determining tea quality. Their composition and content largely vary among different types of tea. In this study, a convenient chemical classification method was developed for six Camellia sinensis tea types (white, green, oolong, black, dark, and yellow) based on the quantification of their major components. Twenty-one free amino acids, 6 catechins, 2 alkaloids, and gallic acid in 24 teas were quantified using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). The total catechin contents in these tea samples ranged from 10.96 to 95.67 mg/g, while total free amino acid content ranged from 2.63 to 25.89 mg/g. Theanine (Thea) was the most abundant amino acid in all tea varieties. Catechin and amino acid levels in tea were markedly reduced upon fermentation of tea. Furthermore, high-temperature processing (roasting) during tea production induced degradation and epimerization of catechins, yielding epimerized catechins, simple catechins, and gallic acid. Principal component analysis revealed that major ester-catechins (EGCG and ECG), major amino acids (Thea), and major alkaloids (caffeine) are potential factors for distinguishing different types of tea. Linear discriminant analysis showed that 100% of teas were correctly classified in which (+)-catechin, ECG, EGC, gallic acid, GABA, cysteine, lysine, and threonine were the most discriminating compounds. This study shows that quantification of the major tea components combined with chemometric analysis, can serve as a simple, convenient, and reliable approach for classifying tea according to fermentation level. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Different Camellia sinensis tea types can be produced worldwide but it is still challenging to know which chemical markers can be used to trace their production. in this paper we used a targeted methodology to classify six tea types (white, green, oolong, black, dark, and yellow) based on phenolic composition, alkaloids, and amino acids. The main chemical markers responsible for the discrimination were pinpointed with the use of chemometric tools.

Abstract
Phenolic compounds that come from natural products are a good option for minimizing lipid oxidation. It should be noted that these are not only introduced directly into the food, but also incorporated into edible biofilms. In contact with food, they extend its useful life by avoiding contact with other surface and preventing deterioration air, one of the main objectives. In particular, gelatin is a biopolymer that has a great potential due to its abundance, low cost and good film-forming capacity. The aim of this study has been to design and analyse gelatin films that incorporate bioactive compounds that come from the walnut and a by-product, the walnut shell. The results showed that mechanical and water vapor barrier properties of the developed films varied depending on the concentration of the walnut, shell and synthetic antioxidant. With increasing walnut concentration (15%) the permeability to water vapor (0.414 g·mm/m2·day·Pascal, g·mm/m2·day·Pa) was significantly lower than the control (5.0368 g·mm/m2·day·Pa). Furthermore, in the new films the elongation at the break and Young's modulus decrease by six times with respect to the control. Films with pure gelatin cannot act as an antioxidant shield to prevent food oxidation, but adding pecan walnut (15% concentration) presents 30% inhibition of the DPPH stable radical. Furthermore, in the DSC, the addition of walnut (15 and 9% concentrations), showed the formation of big crystals; which could improve the thermal stability of gelatin films. The use of new gelatin films has shown good protection against the oxidation of beef patties, increasing the useful lifetime up to nine days, compared to the control (3-4 days), which opens up a big field to the commercialization of meat products with lower quantities of synthetic products.

Abstract
Approved performance quality tests are lacking in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for dietary supplements (DSs) containing green tea extracts. We evaluated the applicability of USP <2040 > general chapter protocols for disintegration and dissolution testing of botanicals to GT DSs. Of 28 single-ingredient GT DSs tested in 2 to 4 lots, 9 (32.1%) always passed the disintegration test, 8 (28.6%) always failed, and 11 (39.3%) showed inconsistent results. Of 34 multi-ingredient DSs tested in 2 lots, 21 (61.8%) passed and 8 (23.5%) failed in both lots, and 5 (14.7%) exhibited inconsistent performance. When stronger destructive forces were applied (disk added), all of the capsules that had failed initially, but not the tablets, passed. In dissolution testing, for the release of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), only 6 of 20 single-ingredient DSs passed. Unexpectedly, with the addition of pepsin (prescribed by USP), only one additional DS passed. These results raise concerns that EGCG was not released properly from GT DS dosage forms. However, the general USP protocols may be inadequate for this botanical. More biorelevant destructive forces may be needed to break down capsules and tablets strengthened by the EGCG's interaction with shell material and to overcome the inhibition of digestive enzymes by EGCG.
