Abstract
Plant-based proteins offer sustainable and nutritious alternatives to animal proteins with their techno-functional attributes influencing product quality and designer food development. Due to the inherent complexities of plant proteins, proper extraction and modifications are vital for their effective utilization. This review highlights the emerging sources of plant-based proteins, and the recent statistics of the techniques employed for pretreatment, extraction, and modifications. The pretreatment, extraction and modification approach to modify plant proteins have been classified, addressed, and the recent applications of such methodologies are duly indicated. Furthermore, this study furnishes novel perspectives regarding the potential impacts of emerging technologies on the intricate dynamics of plant proteins. A thorough review of 100 articles (2018-2024) shows the researchers' keen interest in investigating novel plant proteins and how they can be used; seeds being the main source for protein extraction, followed by legumes. Use of by-products as a protein source is increasing rapidly, which is noteworthy. Protein studies still lack knowledge on protein fraction, antinutrients, and pretreatments. The use of physical methods and their combination with other techniques are increasing for effective and environmentally friendly extraction and modification of plant proteins. Several studies explore the effect of protein changes on their function and nutrition, especially with a goal of replacing ingredients with plant proteins that have improved or enhanced qualities. However, the next step is to investigate the sophisticated modification methods for deeper insights into food safety and toxicity.

Abstract
Nanosilver oxide exhibits strong antibacterial and photocatalytic properties and has shown great application potential in food packaging, biochemical fields, and other fields involving diseases and pest control. In this study, Ag2O nanoparticles were synthesized using Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt-Ag2O NPs). The physicochemical characteristics of the Bt-Ag2O NPs were analyzed by UV‒vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), and zeta potential. The phis-chemical characterization revealed that the Bt-Ag2O NPs are in spherical shape with the small particle size (18.24 nm), high crystallinity, well dispersity, and stability. The biopesticidal and antifungal effects of Bt-Ag2O NPs were tested against Tribolium castaneum, Aspergillus flavus, and Penicillium chrysogenum. The survival, growth, and reproduction of tested pests and molds were significantly inhibited by Bt-Ag2O NPs in a dose-dependent manner. Bt-Ag2O NPs showed higher pesticidal activities against T. castaneum than Bt and commercial Ag2O NPs. The LC50 values of Bt, Ag2O NPs, and Bt-Ag2O NPs were 0.139%, 0.072%, and 0.06% on day 14, respectively. The Bt-Ag2O NPs also showed well antifungal activities against A. flavus and P. chrysogenum, while it resulted a small inhibition zone than commercial Ag2O NPs did. In addition, A. flavus showed much more sensitive to Bt-Ag2O NP treatments, compared to P. chrysogenum. Our results revealed that Bt-Ag2O NPs synthesized using B. thuringiensis could act as pesticides and antifungal agents in stored-product fields. KEY POINTS: • Bt-Ag2O NPs could be synthesized using Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). • The NPs showed a high degree of crystallinity, spherical shape, and small particle size. • The NPs also showed excellent insecticidal and antifungal activity.

Abstract
The burning of an agro waste residue causes air pollution, global warming and lethal effects. To overcome these obstacles, the transformation of agro waste into nanoparticles (NPs) reduces industrial expenses and amplifies environmental sustainability. The concept of green nanotechnology is considered as a versatile tool for the development of valuable products. Although a plethora of literature on the NPs is available, but, still scientists are exploring to design more novel particles possessing unique shape and properties. So, this review basically summarises about the synthesis, characterizations, advantages and outcomes of the various agro waste derived NPs.

Abstract
Citrus fruits are one of the most abundant crops globally in more than 140 countries throughout the world. Acid lime (Citrus aurantifolia swingle) is one of the citrus fruits which popularly has rich nutritional and therapeutic features. The storage period is the important factor that affects the economic and quality properties of this fruit. This study aims to demonstrate the enhancing effect of preharvest spraying with potassium, in addition to the postharvest dipping of fruits in some edible coatings, on the quality and storability of acid lime fruits. Preharvest spraying with organic and mineral forms of potassium, namely, potassium thiosulfate 1.75 g/L (S) and potassium tartrate 2 g/L (T), were carried out at three different times, in May, June, and July. On the other hand, postharvest treatments were carried out via dipping fruits in different types of biopolymers (carboxymethyl cellulose (E2) and gum arabic (E3)) and carboxymethyl cellulose/gum arabic composite (E4) as well as nanocoating formulation based on both biopolymers and doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) (E1), which were prepared via acid lime peel waste extract. Herein, the physiochemical and morphological characterizations confirmed that the nanocoating was prepared at the nanoscale and doped with green synthesis ZnONPs, with recorded sizes of around 80 and 20 nm, respectively. Preharvest spraying with potassium tartrate enhanced fruit traits (Spraying with potassium tartrate at pre-harvest and nanocoating dipping at post-harvest (TE1), spraying with potassium tartrate at pre-harvest and carboxy methyl cellulose dipping at post-harvest (TE2), spraying with potassium tartrate at pre-harvest and gum arabic dipping at post-harvest (TE3) and spraying with potassium tartrate at pre-harvest and carboxymethyl cellulose/gum arabic composite dipping at post-harvest (TE4)), followed by potassium thiosulfate (spraying with potassium thiosulfate at pre-harvest and nanocoating dipping at post-harvest (SE1), spraying with potassium thiosulfate at pre-harvest and carboxy methyl cellulose dipping at post-harvest (SE2), spraying with potassium thiosulfate at pre-harvest and gum arabic dipping at post-harvest (SE3) and spraying with potassium thiosulfate at pre-harvest and carboxymethyl cellulose/gum arabic dipping at post-harvest (SE4)), compared to control. For postharvest treatments, E1 improved fruit quality, followed by E2, E4, and E3, respectively. The integration between pre- and postharvest treatments showed a clear superiority of TE2, followed by TE4, SE1, and SE2, respectively.

Abstract
In this study, flavonoids were extracted from pomelo peels and naringin was isolated from the flavonoid extract. The effects of extraction parameters, namely, ethanol concentration, solid-to-liquid ratio, and extraction time, on the yield of flavonoids extracted from pomelo peels were analyzed according to the Box-Behnken design of response surface methodology. The experimental conditions for flavonoid extraction were optimized, and naringin was separated from the extracted flavonoids using Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. Experimental results showed that the influence of factors on the extraction rate of flavonoids from pomelo peels was in the order of ethanol concentration > solid-to-liquid ratio > extraction time, and the optimal extraction parameters were 85% ethanol concentration, 1:20 solid-to-liquid ratio, and 4-h extraction time for extracting flavonoids from pomelo peels. Under these conditions, the yield of flavonoids was 6.07 ± 0.06 mg/g. After three times of extraction, the flavonoid extraction rate reached 96.55%, and the residual naringin in the pomelo peels was 0.017 mg/g, at which point the bitterness in the pomelo peels disappeared. Two components, namely, PF1 and PF2, were separated from the crude flavonoid of pomelo peels through Sephadex LH20 column chromatography. PF2 was identified as naringin by high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, with a purity of 95.7 ± 0.23%. Both flavonoids and PF2 exhibited good in vitro radicals scavenging activities on DPPH, ABTS, superoxide anion and hydroxyl.

Abstract
The synthesis of metal nanomaterials is a timely topic due to their widespread use in fields such as crop protection, the environment, medicine, and engineering. Green synthesis of nanoparticles, which uses plant extracts instead of industrial chemical agents to reduce metal ions, has been developed to decrease costs, reduce pollution, and improve environmental and human health safety. In this paper, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from the flower extract of Jasminum nudiflorum. The green synthesized AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, and other technologies. The antifungal activity of the prepared AgNPs against Alternaria longipes was tested using the plate method, the concentration dilution method, and other methods, and the antioxidant activity of the prepared AgNPs was evaluated by DPPH and hydroxyl free scavenging methods. The results showed that AgNPs synthesized from J. nudiflorum flower extract have a face-centered cubic structure (fcc), and the average grain size of the nanoparticles is 13 nm; they are also mainly spherical in shape. Additionally, the concentration of AgNPs (ranging from 16 to 128 μg/mL) significantly inhibited the mycelial growth of A. longipes in comparison to the control. The inhibitory rate gradually increased with increasing AgNP concentration, ranging from 70.64% to 79.60% at a concentration of 128 μg/mL. The minimum inhibitory concentration was observed at 32 μg/mL. AgNPs induced overaccumulation of MDA in A. longipes, resulting in cell membrane damage and nucleic acid leakage. Moreover, the AgNPs have significant antioxidant properties, which increase with increasing concentration. The clearance rate of DPPH was 25.46 ± 0.90% when the concentration of AgNPs was 8 μg/mL, and the clearance rate of the hydroxyl radical was 28.62 ± 0.59% when the concentration of AgNPs was 128 μg/mL. Thus, the flower extract from J. nudiflorum holds potential as an environmentally friendly and green alternative for the synthesis of AgNPs, which have antifungal and antioxidant potential.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using the whole plant of Duchesnea indica (DI) which was extracted in different solvents; the antimicrobial effects of the extract were investigated in this study. The extraction of DI was performed using three different solvents: water, pure ethanol (EtOH), and pure dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). AgNP formation was monitored by measuring the UV-Vis spectrum of each reaction solution. After synthesis for 48 h, the AgNPs were collected and the negative surface charge and size distribution of the synthesized AgNPs were measured using dynamic light scattering (DLS). The AgNP structure was determined by high-resolution powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the AgNP morphology was investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). AgNP antibacterial activities were evaluated against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa using the disc diffusion method. Additionally, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values were also determined. Biosynthesized AgNPs showed enhanced antibacterial activity against B. cereus, S. aureus, E. coli, S. enteritidis, and P. aeruginosa compared with that of pristine solvent extract. These results suggest that AgNPs synthesized from extracts of DI are promising antibacterial agents against pathogenic bacteria and can be further applied in the food industry.

Abstract
There is no doubt that the risk of drug-resistant pathogens and cancer diseases is on the rise. So, the goal of this study was to find out how effective silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) made by Senna alexandrina are at fighting these threats. In this work, S. alexandrina collected from Medina, Saudi Arabia was used and the biosynthesis method was applied to produce the Ag-NPs. The characterization of Ag-NPs was done using different analytical techniques, including UV spectroscopy, FT-IR, TEM, and XRD analysis. The MIC, MBC, and MTT protocols were applied to confirm the bioactivity of the Ag-NPs as antibacterial and anticancer bioagents. The findings reported indicating that the aqueous extract of S. alexandrina leaves, grown naturally in Saudi Arabia, is ideal for the production of bioactive Ag-NPs. The hydroxyl, aliphatic, alkene, N-H bend of primary amines, C-H bonds, and C-O bonds of alcohol were detected in this product. The small, sphere-shaped particles (4-7 nm) were the most prevalent among the bioactive Ag-NPs produced in this work. These nanoparticles inhibited some important multidrug-resistant pathogens (MDRPs) (Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumanii/haemolyticus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)), as well as their ability to inhibit breast cancer cells (MCF-7 cells). The MIC of Ag-NPs ranged from 0.03 to 0.6 mg/mL, while their MBC ranged from 0.06 to 2.5 mg/mL. Anticancer activity test showed that IC50 of the Ag-NPs against tested breast cancer cells was 61.9 ± 3.8 µg/mL. According to the current results, biosynthesis using S. alexandrina leaves grown naturally in Saudi Arabia was an ideal technique for producing bioactive Ag-NPs that could be used to combat a variety of MDRPs and cancer diseases.

Abstract
This study explains the effect of ultrasound on the extraction of the bioactive compounds from garlic (Allium sativum L.) leaf powder. The experiment was carried out by varying the ultrasound amplitude (30-60%), treatment time (5-15 min), and ethanol concentration (40-60%) required to obtain the maximum extraction yield of total phenol content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activity. Rotatable central composite design (RCCD) provided experimental parameter combinations in the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of garlic leaf powder. The values of extraction yield, TPC, TFC, and antioxidant activity for the optimized condition of RSM were obtained at 53% amplitude, 13 min of treatment time, and 50% ethanol concentration. The values of the target compounds predicted at this optimized condition from RSM were 32.2% extraction yield, 9.9 mg GAE/g TPC, 6.8 mg QE/g TFC, and 58% antioxidant activity. The ANN-GA optimized condition for the leaf extracts was obtained at 60% amplitude, 13 min treatment time, and 53% ethanol concentration. The predicted values of optimized condition obtained by ANN-GA were recorded as 32.1738% extraction yield and 9.8661 mg GAE/g, 6.8398 mg QE/g, and 58.5527% for TPC, TFC, and antioxidant activity, respectively. The matured leaves of garlic, if not harvested during its cultivation, often go waste despite being rich in antioxidants and phenolic compounds. With the increased demand for the production of value-added products, the extraction of the bioactive compounds from garlic leaves can resolve waste management and potential health issues without affecting the crop yield through the process for high-end use in value addition.

Abstract
Nanotechnology is the integrative science in the field of physics, chemistry and biology. For the synthesis of silver nanoparticles, a simple approach was applied using Firmiana colorata (Roxb.) aqueous leaf extract. During the synthesis of this silver nanoparticle, the solution color changes from green to deep brown due to the reduction of silver. The phytocompounds present in the Firmiana colorata (Roxb.) leaf extract acts as a reducing as well as a capping agent. Identifying the presence of bioactive compounds responsible for the reduction of silver was extensively characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, SEM, and EDX. Moreover, to know the efficacy of the silver nanoparticles (AgNps) antioxidant and antimicrobial studies were evaluated against the human pathogenic bacteria. Furthermore, GC-MS analysis of the leaf extract of Firmiana colorata has been done followed by the in-silico molecular docking against the Anti-inflammatory and oxidative protein. Here within this study, a comparative evaluation was done among the Firmiana colorata (Roxb.) leaf extract and the synthesized silver nanoparticles. Results indicate that ethnomedicinally lesser known Firmiana colorata (Roxb.) and AgNps have the potency to act as anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and antimicrobial agents.

Abstract
Fruits and vegetables are an integral part of our diet attributed to their appealing taste, flavor, and health-promoting characteristics. However, due to their high-water activity, they are susceptible to microbial spoilage and diseases at any step in the food supply chain, from pre-harvest treatment to post-harvest storage and transportation. As a result, food researchers and engineers are developing innovative technologies that can be used to reduce the loss of fruits and vegetables on-farm and during postharvest processing. The purpose of this study was to gather and discuss the scientific data on the disease-suppressive activity of nanoparticles against plant pathogens. The progress and limitations of innovative approaches for improving nanoparticles' efficiency and dependability have been studied to develop effective substitutes for synthetic chemical fungicides and pesticides, in managing disease in fruits and vegetables. The findings of this study strongly suggests that nanotechnology has the required ability for disease suppression in fruits and vegetables. Applications of specific nanoparticles under specified conditions can enhance nutrition delivery to plants, provide better antibacterial and disease suppression activity. Nanoparticles can also lessen the quantity of agrichemicals/metals released into the environment as compared to standard formulations, which is one of the most impressive advances.

Abstract
The recent trend in consumption of plant-based protein over animal protein opens up a new avenue for sustainable agriculture practice, less environmental impact and greenhouse gas emission. The modification of plant-based proteins by novel non-thermal technologies includes the structural transformation followed by the modulation of their functional properties that are exploited to develop a protein ingredient system for application in food formulation. This review explores the impact of non-thermal process technologies on structural modification of plant proteins followed by improvement in protein's function in food formulation. Novel concepts articulating the impact of non-thermal technologies on structural and functional modification of plant proteins affecting it's digestibility and bioavailability are addressed. Limitations and prospects of applying non-thermal technologies in developing an alternative plant-based protein food system are also summarized. Non-thermal processes are considered as the emerging technologies that results in conformational changes in secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure of plant proteins which helps in modification of functional properties without jeopardizing the organoleptic properties and bioactivity of the protein. However, extensive future study is needed to optimize the non-thermal process parameters along with the finding of new protein sources to achieve healthy and sustainable plant-based food system.

Abstract
In this work, an ultrasensitive immunosensor for amperometric determination of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was developed utilizing Ag and Cu nanoparticles on polydopamine (PDA) functionalized cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) composite (CNFs/PDA/Cu-Ag) as signal amplifier. PDA was first prepared by self-polymerizing of dopamine, and then was adsorbed on CNFs. The obtained CNFs/PDA was applied as substrate to electrolessly deposit Cu-Ag nanoparticles, using NaBH4 as reducing agent. The structure and morphology of the synthesized CNFs/PDA/Cu-Ag nanocomposite were analyzed through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, particle size analyzer and transmission electron microscopy. The CNFs/PDA/Cu-Ag modified glassy carbon electrode can fix AFP antibody (Ab), and further capture AFP specifically. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry were used to characterize the assembly process of immunosensor. The immunoreaction was amplified by electrocatalytical reduction of H2O2 on Cu-Ag nanoparticles, through which AFP was quantitatively detected. The developed sensor exhibits wide linear range of 0.01-100 ng mL-1 (R2 = 0.9963) with low detection limit of 4.27 pg mL-1 (S/N = 3). In addition, it has been used for the detection of AFP in human serum, manifesting its preeminent application prospect in early liver cancer diagnosis.
