Abstract
To alleviate the growth inhibition, and intestinal damage of Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) induced by low fishmeal diets (LF), an 8-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the addition of dietary soybean-derived bioactive peptides (SBP) in LF diets on the regulation of growth, digestion and intestinal health. The crabs were fed isonitrogenous and isoenergetic conventional diet and LF diets (10 % fishmeal replaced by soybean meal, LF) supplemented with 0, 1 %, 2 %, 4 % and 6 % SBP, respectively. The results showed that LF diet inhibited growth while inclusion of SBP quadratically remitted the growth inhibition induced by LF. For digestive function, increasing addition level of SBP quadratically improved the α-amylase and trypsin activities. For antioxidant function, LF group significantly increased the malondialdehyde content, while SBP linearly decreased the malondialdehyde level and cubically increased the anti-superoxide anion activity and total antioxidant capacity level. For intestinal health, the peritrophic membrane (PM) almost completely separated from the inner wall of the intestinal lumen, the epithelial cells reduced, the muscularis became thinner and the apoptotic signals increased in LF group; with SBP addition, the intestinal morphology was improved, with the PM adhering to the inner wall of the intestinal lumen, an increase in the number of epithelial cells and an increase in the thickness of the muscularis. Additionally, there was a decrease in apoptotic signals. Dietary SBP also increased the expression of PT and Crustin1 quadratically and decreased the expression of ALF1 linearly, ALF3 and ILF2 quadratically.

Abstract
The present study was an 8-week feeding trial investigating the effects of lysine and threonine supplementation in vegetable-based diets on growth, antioxidative capacity, and gut microbiota of juvenile redclaw crayfish, Cherax quadricarinatus (initial weight 11.52 ± 0.23 g). The lysine and threonine were supplemented to formulate five isonitrogenous (37%) and isolipidic (9%) diets containing 0% (control), 0.2% lysine (L0.2), 0.2% threonine (T0.2), 0.4% lysine (L0.4), and 0.4% threonine (T0.4), respectively. Compared to the control, weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) of C. quadricarinatus significantly increased with increasing dietary lysine and threonine supplementation from 0.2% to 0.4% (P < 0.05). Hepatopancreas trypsin activity significantly increased with increasing levels of lysine and threonine in diets (P < 0.05). However, the pepsin, lipase, and amylase activities were not affected by dietary levels of lysine and threonine (P > 0.05). Compared with the control, crayfish in T0.4 and L0.4 showed significantly higher glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity (P < 0.05), lower alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activity, and lower malondialdehyde (MDA) content (P < 0.05). Supplementation with 0.4% lysine significantly changed the composition of the gut microbiota (P < 0.05), which showed a significantly increased relative abundance of Proteobacteria and decreased Firmicutes, Actinomycetes, and Pontomyces (P < 0.05). The PICRUSt analysis demonstrated that the abundance of the metabolism and cellular processes pathways in the L0.4 group were markedly decreased compared with the control (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, a tighter interaction of the microbiota community in crayfish was observed in the T0.4 experimental group. In conclusion, these results suggested that dietary supplementation with 0.4% threonine could significantly promote growth and improve microbial health in juvenile C. quadricarinatus.

Abstract
Investigated mitigating effects of sodium butyrate (SB) on the inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and growth inhibition of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) (2.94 ± 0.2 g) are caused by glycinin. Six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were prepared, in which the basal diet was the control diet and the Gly group diet contained 80 g/kg glycinin, while the remaining 4 diets were supplemented with 0.75, 1.50, 2.25, and 3.00 g/kg SB, respectively. The feeding trial lasted for 8 weeks, and the results indicated that supplementing the diet with 1.50-2.25 g/kg of SB significantly improved feed efficiency and alleviated the growth inhibition induced by glycinin. Hepatopancreas and intestinal protease activities and the content of muscle crude protein were significantly decreased by dietary glycinin, but supplement 1.50-2.25 g/kg SB partially reversed this result. SB (1.50-2.25 g/kg) increased the activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in the hepatopancreas and reduced the activities of AST and ALT in the serum. Glycinin significantly reduced immune and antioxidant enzyme activities, whereas 1.50-2.25 g/kg SB reversed these adverse effects. Furthermore, compared with the Gly group, supplement 1.50-2.25 g/kg SB eminently up-regulated the TGF-β and IL-10 mRNA, and down-regulated the IL-1β, TNF-α, and NF-κB mRNA in hepatopancreas, mid-intestine (MI), and distal intestine (DI). Meanwhile, supplement 1.50-2.25 g/kg SB activated the Keap1-Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway and upregulate CAT, SOD, and HO-1 mRNA expression in hepatopancreas, MI, and DI. Summarily, glycinin induced inflammatory response, and oxidative stress of common carp ultimately decreased the digestive function and growth performance. SB partially mitigated these adverse effects by activating the Keap1-Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway and inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway.

Abstract
A 56-day feeding trial assessed the effects of black soldier fly larvae meal (BSFLM) on the growth performance and hepatopancreas health of juvenile Eriocheir sinensis. Six isoproteic and isolipidic diets with 0% (FM), 10% (BSFLM10), 20% (BSFLM20), 30% (BSFLM30), 40% (BSFLM40), or 50% (BSFLM50) replacement of fish meal by BSFLM were formulated. Compared to FM, replacing 10%-40% of fish meal with BSFLM did not significantly affect the weight gain rate (WGR) or specific growth rate (SGR), while BSFLM50 significantly decreased the WGR and SGR. Crabs fed BSFLM50 had significantly lower T-AOC activity than those fed other diets, and crabs fed BSFLM30, BSFLM40, or BSFLM50 had significantly lower activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD and GSH-Px) in the hepatopancreas than those fed FM or BSFLM10. Compared to FM, BSFLM10, BSFLM20, and BSFLM30 did not affect the relative expression of genes related to the nonspecific immunity, while BSFLM40 and BSFLM50 upregulated the relative expression of these genes. Furthermore, histological analysis showed that the hepatopancreas was deformed in the BSFLM50 group, with widened lumens and loss of basal membrane integrity. In summary, BSFLM replacing 50% of fish meal reduced growth and structural damage to the hepatopancreas. An immune response was activated when the replacement level was over 30%. Therefore, the replacement level of dietary fish meal by BSFLM is recommended to be not more than 30% of the juvenile E. sinensis feed.

Abstract
An eight-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of a dietary β-glucan application strategy on the growth performance, physiological response, and gut microbiota of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) (0.49 ± 0.17 g) under low salinity. Six feeding strategies were established, including a continuous β-glucan-free diet group (control), a continuously fed group with a 0.1% β-glucan diet (T1), and groups with the following intermittent feeding patterns: 1 day of β-glucan diet and 6 days of β-glucan-free diet (T2), 2 days of β-glucan diet and 5 days of β-glucan-free diet (T3), 3 days of β-glucan diet and 4 days of β-glucan-free diet (T4), and 4 days of β-glucan diet and 3 days of β-glucan-free diet (T5) each week. No significant differences in growth performance among all the groups were found, although the condition factor was significantly higher in the T3 group than in the T1 and T5 groups (p < 0.05). The T-AOC and GPX activities were significantly lower in the T3 group than in the control group (p < 0.05). The MDA content was also significantly lower in the T2 group than in the T3 and T4 groups (p < 0.05). Additionally, the mRNA expression of the Pen3a gene was significantly upregulated in the hepatopancreas of the T4 group compared to the control and T5 groups (p < 0.05), and the Toll gene was also significantly upregulated in the T3 group compared to the T1 and T2 groups (p < 0.05). Dietary β-glucan induced changes in the alpha diversity and composition of the gut microbiota in different feeding strategies. The beta diversity of the gut microbiota in the T2 group was significantly different from that in the control group. The results of a KEGG analysis showed that gut function in the carbohydrate metabolism, immune system, and environmental adaptation pathways was significantly enhanced in the T3 group. These findings provide evidence that the intermittent feeding strategy of β-glucan could alleviate immune fatigue, impact antioxidant ability, and change gut microbiota composition of L. vannamei under low salinity.

Abstract
β-conglycinin is a recognized factor in leading to intestinal inflammation and limiting application of soybean meal in aquaculture. Our previous study reported that heat-killed B. siamensis LF4 could effectively mitigate inflammatory response and apoptosis caused by β-conglycinin in spotted seabass (Lateolabrax maculatus) enterocytes, but the mechanisms involved are not fully understood. In the present study, therefore, whole cell wall (CW), peptidoglycan (PG) and lipoteichoic acid (LTA) and cell-free supernatant (CFS) have been collected from B. siamensis LF4 and their mitigative function on β-conglycinin-induced adverse impacts and mechanisms underlying were evaluated. The results showed that β-conglycinin-induced cell injury, characterized with significantly decreased cell viability and increased activities of lactate dehydrogenase, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic propylic transaminase (P < 0.05), were reversed by subsequent heat-killed B. siamensis LF4 and its CW, LTA, PG and CFS treatment. Enterocytes co-cultured with heat-killed B. siamensis LF4 and its CW, LTA, PG and CFS (especially PG) significantly increased expressions of anti-inflammatory genes (IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and TGF-β1), tight junction proteins (ZO-1, occludin and claudin-b) and antimicrobial peptides (β-defensin, hepcidin-1, NK-lysin and piscidin-5), and decreased expressions of pro-inflammatory genes (IL-1β, IL-8 and TNF-α) and apoptosis-related genes (caspase 3, caspase 8 and caspase 9) (P < 0.05), indicating their excellent mitigation effects on β-conglycinin-induced cell damages. In addition, heat-killed B. siamensis LF4 and its CW, LTA, PG and CFS significantly increased TLR2 mRNA level (especially in PG treatment), and decreased MAPKs (JNK, ERK, p38 and AP-1) and NF-κB related genes expressions. In conclusion, heat-killed B. siamensis LF4 and its CW, LTA, PG and CFS could modulating TLR2/MAPKs/NF-κB signaling and alleviating β-conglycinin-induced enterocytes injury in spotted seabass (L. maculatus), and PG presented the best potential.

Abstract
Glutamine addition can improve immunity and intestinal development in fish. This study examined the protective roles of glutamine on growth suppression and enteritis induced by glycinin in juvenile hybrid groupers (female Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × male Epinephelus lanceolatus). The experiment set four isonitrogenous and isolipidic trial diets: a diet containing 10% glycinin (11S), 10% of 11S diet supplemented with 1% or 2% alanine-glutamine (1% or 2% Ala-Gln), and a diet containing neither 11S nor Ala-Gln (FM). A feeding trial was conducted in hybrid grouper for 8 weeks. Weight gain and specific growth rates in Groups 1% and 2% Ala-Gln were significantly higher than those of the 11S group but were similar to those of the FM group. The intestinal muscular layer thickness, plica height and width of the 2% Ala-Gln group were significantly higher than those of Group 11S. The enterocyte proliferation efficiency of the 11S group was significantly lower compared to other groups. Compared with the 11S group, Groups 1% and 2% Ala-Gln fish had increased intestinal lysozyme activities, complement 3 and immunoglobulin M as well as cathelicidin contents. The mRNA levels of tnf-α, il-1β, ifn-α, and hsp70 genes were more downregulated in Groups 1% and 2% Ala-Gln than in Group 11S. Compared with FM group, fish from the 11S group had significantly lower mRNA levels of myd88, ikkβ, and nf-κb p65 genes. These three values in the 2% Ala-Gln group were significantly lower than those in Group 11S but not significantly different from those of Group FM. The relative abundance of Vibrio in Group 11S was higher than that in Groups FM and 2% Ala-Gln. Intestinal glutamine, glutaminase, glutamic acid, α-ketoglutarate, malate dehydrogenase and ATP contents were higher in Groups 1% and 2% Ala-Gln than in Group 11S. These results suggest that glutamine is a useful feed additive to enhance growth and intestinal immunity, alleviate inflammation, and modulate gut microbiota in hybrid grouper fed high-dose glycinin.

Abstract
The study investigated the alleviated effects of Alpha-ketoglutaric acid (AKG) on the intestinal health of mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio Songpu) caused by soy antigenic protein. The diets were formulated from fishmeal (CON), 50% soybean meal (SBM), the mixture of glycinin and β-conglycinin (11 + 7S) and adding 1% AKG in the 11 + 7S (AKG). Carp (~ 4 g) in triplicate (30 fish per tank) was fed to apparent satiation thrice a day for six weeks. Compared with CON, SBM treatment resulted in significantly poor growth performance (P < 0.05), whereas 11 + 7S and AKG treatments were not significantly different from CON (P > 0.05). Gene expression of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 β (IL-1β) in proximal intestines (PI) and distal intestines (DI) were increased (P < 0.05), and transforming growth factor (TGF-β) in PI and middle intestines (MI) was decreased (P < 0.05) in both SBM and 11 + 7S. The caspase-3 in DI increased in SBM (P < 0.05) and the caspase-3 and caspase-9 in DI increased in 11 + 7S (P < 0.05); conversely, TGF-β in PI and MI was increased, TNF-α and IL-1β in the MI, caspase-3, and caspase-9 in DI was decreased in AKG (P < 0.05). The TOR (target of rapamycin) in PI and MI, ACC in PI, MI and DI was decreased in SBM (P < 0.05), the AMPK in the PI and DI, TOR in PI, MI and DI, ACC in PI and DI, 4E-BP in DI was reduced in 11 + 7S (P < 0.05). AMPK in the PI and DI, ACC in the PI and MI, TOR in PI, MI, and DI, 4E-BP in PI and DI was recovered by AKG supplementation (P < 0.05). Lipids and lipid-like metabolism, organic acids and derivatives metabolism increased in AKG dietary treatment. In conclusion, AKG reduces the expression of intestinal inflammation and apoptosis pathway and changes glycerophospholipid metabolism and sphingolipid metabolism in the intestine of fish.

Abstract
The change in temperature will change the composition of intestinal microorganisms of juvenile Eriocheir sinensis, and the composition of intestinal microorganisms will affect the growth and development of juvenile crabs. In order to explore the relationship between intestinal microorganisms and growth of E. sinensis at different temperatures, the status of growth and intestinal microflora of juvenile E. sinensis reared at different water temperatures (15 °C, 23 °C, and 30 °C) were compared in this study. The results showed that the respective survival rate of juvenile E. sinensis in the three water temperature groups was 100%, 87.5%, and 64.44%. Moreover, the molting rate increased with an increase in water temperature, which was at 0%, 10%, and 71.11% for the three respective temperature groups. The average weight gain rate showed an overall increasing trend with the increase of water temperature. Moreover, the final fatness of the crabs in the 30 °C water temperature group was significantly lower than that in the 15 °C and 23 °C groups (p < 0.05); there was no significant difference in the liver-to-body ratio among the three groups. The results of the alpha diversity analysis of the 16S rRNA data revealed that there was no significant difference in the intestinal microbial abundance among the three water temperature groups; however, the intestinal microbial diversity in the 23 °C water temperature group was significantly lower than that in the 15 °C and 30 °C groups. At the phylum level, the dominant flora of the three groups was Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Bacteroidota. At the genus level, the abundance of Parabacteroides and Aeromonas in the intestine of the crabs in the 30 °C water temperature group was significantly higher than that in the 15 °C and 23 °C groups (p < 0.05). The function prediction showed that the main functional diversity of intestinal microflora of juvenile E. sinensis in the three water temperature groups was similar and mainly involved in metabolic-related functions, but there were still differences in the effects of water temperature on functional pathways such as metabolism, immunity, and growth among each group, either promoting or inhibiting. In conclusion, different water temperatures can affect the composition and function of intestinal flora of E. sinensis, and 23 °C-30 °C is the optimal water temperature for the growth of juvenile E. sinensis.

Abstract
β-conglycinin and glycinin, two major heat-stable anti-nutritional factors in soybean meal (SM), have been suggested as the key inducers of intestinal inflammation in aquatic animals. In the present study, a spotted seabass intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) were used to compare the inflammation-inducing effects of β-conglycinin and glycinin. The results showed that IECs co-cultured with 1.0 mg/mL β-conglycinin for 12 h or 1.5 mg/mL glycinin for 24 h significantly decreased the cell viability (P < 0.05), and overstimulated inflammation and apoptosis response by significantly down-regulating anti-inflammatory genes (IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and TGF-β1) expressions and significantly up-regulated pro-inflammatory genes (IL-1β, IL-8 and TNF-α) and apoptosis genes (caspase 3, caspase 8 and caspase 9) expressions (P < 0.05). Subsequently, a β-conglycinin based inflammation IECs model was established and used for demonstrating whether commensal probiotic B. siamensis LF4 can ameliorate the adverse effects of β-conglycinin. The results showed β-conglycinin-induced cell viability damage was completely repaired by treated with 109 cells/mL heat-killed B. siamensis LF4 for ≥12 h. At the same time, IECs co-cultured with 109 cells/mL heat-killed B. siamensis LF4 for 24 h significantly ameliorated β-conglycinin-induced inflammation and apoptosis by up-regulating anti-inflammatory genes (IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and TGF-β1) expressions and down-regulated pro-inflammatory genes (IL-1β, IL-8 and TNF-α) and apoptosis genes (caspase 3, caspase 8 and caspase 9) expressions (P < 0.05). In summary, both β-conglycinin and glycinin can lead to inflammation and apoptosis in spotted seabass IECs, and β-conglycinin is more effective; commensal B. siamensis LF4 can efficiently ameliorate β-conglycinin induced inflammation and apoptosis in IECs.

Abstract
This study was to evaluate the mitigative effects of vitamin C (VC) on growth inhibition and intestinal damage induced by glycinin in juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski. 270 healthy juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski (4.65 ± 0.04 g) were randomly divided into 3 treatments, and fed with control diet, 80 g/kg glycinin diet and 80 g/kg glycinin+200 mg/kg VC diet respectively for 8 weeks. The results showed that glycinin significantly decreased the weight gain rate, specific growth rate, protein efficiency rate, feed efficiency rate and feeding rate of fish compared with the control group (P < 0.05), while VC supplementation improved the growth performance and feed utilization efficiency, and reached a level similar to the control group. Similarly, VC significantly increased the crude protein content of muscle and whole-body, and hepatopancreas and intestinal protease activities of fish fed with glycinin diet (P < 0.05). The distal intestine of fish in glycinin group showed typical damage characteristics, including breakage and atrophy of intestinal mucosal fold, and increased intestinal mucosal permeability. However, fish fed the glycinin + VC diet showed an unimpaired normal intestinal morphology. Usefully, VC supplementation could also restore impaired immune function and antioxidant capacity. VC down-regulated the mRNA levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β, and up-regulated the mRNA levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10 and TGF-β in the distal intestine of fish fed with glycinin. Furthermore, glycinin exposure could reduce the mRNA levels of HO-1, CAT and GPx by inhibiting the activation of Nrf2-Keap1 signaling pathway, while VC supplementation reversed this phenomenon and maintained the homeostasis of antioxidant defense system. Concluded, glycinin causes growth inhibition, digestive dysfunction and intestinal damage of Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski, while sufficient VC intake is beneficial for fish to resist the adverse effects of glycinin.

T-2 toxin-induced intestinal damage with dysregulation of metabolism, redox homeostasis, inflammation, and apoptosis in chicks. Arch Toxicol 2023; 97:805-817. Abstract
T-2 toxin is a worldwide problem for feed and food safety, leading to livestock and human health risks. The objective of this study was to explore the mechanism of T-2 toxin-induced small intestine injury in broilers by integrating the advanced microbiomic, metabolomic and transcriptomic technologies. Four groups of 1-day-old male broilers (n = 4 cages/group, 6 birds/cage) were fed a control diet and control diet supplemented with T-2 toxin at 1.0, 3.0, and 6.0 mg/kg, respectively, for 2 weeks. Compared with the control, dietary T-2 toxin reduced feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and the apparent metabolic rates and induced histopathological lesions in the small intestine to varying degrees by different doses. Furthermore, the T-2 toxin decreased the activities of glutathione peroxidase, thioredoxin reductase and total antioxidant capacity but increased the concentrations of protein carbonyl and malondialdehyde in the duodenum in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the integrated microbiomic, metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis results revealed that the microbes, metabolites, and transcripts were primarily involved in the regulation of nucleotide and glycerophospholipid metabolism, redox homeostasis, inflammation, and apoptosis were related to the T-2 toxin-induced intestinal damage. In summary, the present study systematically elucidated the intestinal toxic mechanisms of T-2 toxin, which provides novel ideas to develop a detoxification strategy for T-2 toxin in animals.

Dietary Methionine Level Impacts the Growth, Nutrient Metabolism, Antioxidant Capacity and Immunity of the Chinese Mitten Crab ( Eriocheir sinensis) under Chronic Heat Stress. Abstract
This study examined whether diets with high dietary methionine levels could alleviate chronic heat stress in Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis. Crabs were fed three dietary methionine levels of 0.49%, 1.29% and 2.09% for six weeks. The analyzed methionine concentration of diets was 0.48%, 1.05% and 1.72%, respectively. Crabs were fed three different supplemental concentrations of dietary methionine at 24 °C and 30 °C, respectively. The trial was divided into six groups with five replicates in each group, and 40 juvenile crabs (initial average weight 0.71 ± 0.01 g) in each replicate. During the trial, crabs were fed twice daily (the diet of 4% of the body weight was delivered daily). The effects of dietary methionine level on nutrient metabolism, antioxidant capacity, apoptosis factors and immunity were evaluated at a normal water temperature of 24 °C and high temperature of 30 °C. Feed conversion ratio decreased under chronic heat stress. Chronic heat stress increased weight gain, specific growth rate, molting frequency, and protein efficiency ratio. The survival of crabs decreased under chronic heat stress, whereas a high level of dietary methionine significantly improved survival. Chronic heat stress induced lipid accumulation and protein content reduction. The high-methionine diet decreased lipid in the body and hepatopancreas, but increased protein in the body, muscle and hepatopancreas under chronic heat stress. Simultaneously, the high dietary methionine levels mitigated oxidative stress by reducing lipid peroxidation, restoring the antioxidant enzyme system, decreasing apoptosis and activating immune function under chronic heat stress. This study suggests that supplementing 1.72% dietary methionine could alleviate the adverse effects of a high water temperature in E. sinensis farming.

Abstract
This study investigated the glycinin and β-conglycinin induced intestinal damage and α-ketoglutarate alleviating the damage of glycinin and β-conglycinin in intestine. Carp were randomly divided into six dietary groups: containing fish meal (FM) as the protein source, soybean meal (SM), glycinin (FMG), β-conglycinin (FMc), glycinin+1.0% α-ketoglutarate (AKG) (FMGA), β-conglycinin+1.0% AKG (FMcA). The intestines were collected on 7th, and the hepatopancreas and intestines were collected on 56th. Fish treated with SM and FMc displayed reduced weight gain, specific growth rate, and protein efficiency. On 56th day, Fish fed on SM, FMG and FMc presented lower superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities. FMGA and FMcA had higher SOD activity than those fed on the FMG and FMc, respectively. In intestine, fish fed on the SM diets collected on 7th presented upregulated the expression of transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ1), AMP-activated protein kinase beta (AMPKβ), AMPKγ, and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC). Fish fed FMG presented upregulated expression of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), caspase9, and AMPKγ, while downregulated the expression of claudin7 and AMPKα. FMc group presented upregulated expression of TGFβ1, caspase3, caspase8, and ACC. Fish fed FMGA showed upregulated expression of TGFβ1, claudin3c, claudin7, while downregulating the expression of TNF-α and AMPKγ when compared to fish fed FMG diet. FMcA upregulated the expression of TGFβ1, claudin3c than fed on the FMc. In intestine, the villus height and mucosal thickness of the proximal intestine (PI) and the distal intestine (DI) were decreased and crypt depth of the PI and mid intestine (MI) were increased in SM, FMG and FMc. In addition, fish fed on SM, FMG and FMc presented lower citrate synthase (CS), isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICD), α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex (α-KGDHC) Na+/K+-ATPase activity in DI. FMGA had higher CS, ICD, α-KGDHC, and Na+/K+-ATPase activity in PI and MI than those fed on the FMG. FMcA had higher Na+/K+-ATPase activity in MI. In conclusion, dietary soybean meal destroys the intestine's health, the adverse effects are related to the presence of β-conglycinin and glycinin, especially glycinin. AKG may regulate intestinal energy via tricarboxylic acid cycle, thereby alleviating the damage intestinal morphology caused by the dietary soybean antigen proteins.

Abstract
The unsuitable substitution ratio of fish meal by plant protein will reshape the intestinal microbial composition and intestine immunity. However, previous studies were mostly limited to investigating how different feed or probiotics characterized the microbial composition but ignored the biological interactions between bacteria and host physiology through secondary metabolites. Therefore, this study integrates the apparent indicators monitoring, 16S rDNA sequencing, and metabonomics to systematically investigate the effects of cottonseed protein concentrate (CPC) substitution of fish meal and Bacillus coagulans intervention on gut microbes, secondary metabolites, and intestinal immunity of Macrobrachium rosenbergii. Prawns were fed with three diets for 70 days: HF diets contained 25% fish meal, CPC in LF diets were replaced with 10% fish meal, and LF diets supplemented with 2 × 108 CFU/g diet B. coagulans were designated as BC diets. Results showed that CPC substitution induced a significant decrease in digestive enzyme activities (trypsin and lipase) and gut barrier protein PT-1 expression and a significant increase in γ-GT enzyme activity and inflammatory-related factors (Relish and Toll) expression. B. coagulans treatment mitigated the negative changes of the above indicators. Meanwhile, it significantly improved the expression levels of the barrier factor PT-1, the reparative cytokine IL-22, and Cu/Zn-SOD. CPC substitution resulted in a remarkable downregulated abundance of Firmicutes phyla, Flavobacterium spp., and Bacillus spp. B. coagulans treatment induced the callback of Firmicutes abundance and improved the relative abundance of Sphingomonas, Bacillus, and Ralstonia. Functional prediction indicated that CPC substitution resulted in elevated potential pathogenicity of microbial flora, and B. coagulans reduces the pathogenesis risk. Pearson's correlation analysis established a significant positive correlation between differential genera (Sphingomonas, Bacillus, and Ralstonia) and secondary metabolites (including sphingosine, dehydrophytosphingosine, amino acid metabolites, etc.). Meanwhile, the latter were significantly associated with intestinal immunoregulation-related genes (Cu/Zn-SOD, IL-22, PT-1, Toll, and Relish). This study indicated that B. coagulans could mediate specific gut microbes and the combined action of multiple functional secondary metabolites to affect intestinal barrier function, digestion, and inflammation. Our study revealed the decisive role of gut microbes and derived secondary metabolites in the model of dietary composition-induced intestinal injury and probiotic treatment from a new perspective.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Extensive evidence suggests that gut microbiota may interact with the kidneys and play central roles in the pathogenesis of disease. However, the association of gut microbiota-kidneys in diarrhea remains unclear. METHODS A diarrhea mouse model was constructed by combining adenine with Folium sennae. We analyzed the characteristics of the gut content microbiota and short chain fatty acids (SCFAs); and explored the potential link between gut content microbiota, SCFAs, intestinal inflammatory response and kidney function. RESULTS Characteristic bacteria Lactobacillus intestinalis and Bacteroides acidifaciens were enriched in the gut contents of mice. The productions of SCFAs were remarkably inhibited. Model mice presented an increased trend of creatinine (Cr), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), a decreased trend of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA). The pathological analysis proved obvious damage to the kidney structure. Lactobacillus intestinalis and Bacteroides acidifaciens exisited in the correlations with acetic acid, intestinal inflammatory response and kidney function. CONCLUSIONS Adenine combined with Folium sennae-induced diarrhea, altered the structure and function of the gut content microbiota in mice, causing the enrichment of the characteristic bacteria Lactobacillus intestinalis and Bacteroides acidifaciens. The interactions between Lactobacillus intestinalis, Bacteroides acidifaciens and acetic acid, intestinal inflammation, and kidney function might be involved in the process of gut-kidney impairment in adenine, combined with Folium sennae-induced diarrhea.

Abstract
The present study evaluated the protective effect and the regulatory mechanism of taurine on growth inhibition and intestinal damage induced by glycinin in juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski. The control diets had no glycinin and taurine, the glycinin diets contained only 80 g/kg glycinin, and the glycinin + taurine diets contained 80 g/kg glycinin+10 g/kg taurine. Juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski (4.65 ± 0.03 g/tail) were respectively fed with these 3 diets for 8 weeks. The results showed that glycinin significantly decreased the final body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate, protein efficiency rate, feed efficiency rate and feeding rate of fish compared with the control group (P < 0.05). While taurine supplementation improved the growth performance and feed efficiency, but final body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate of the glycinin + taurine group were still significantly lower than the control group (P < 0.05). Compared with the glycinin group, taurine supplementation significantly increased whole-body and muscle crude protein content, and hepatopancreas and intestinal protease activities (P < 0.05). Distal intestinal villous dysplasia and mucosal damage, and increased intestinal mucosal permeability were observed in the glycinin group, while taurine supplementation alleviated these adverse effects. Usefully, taurine supplementation could also partially restore the impaired immune function and antioxidant capacity of fish fed glycinin diets. Compared with the glycinin group, taurine supplementation down-regulated pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β mRNA levels, and up-regulated anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-10 and TGF-β mRNA levels. Furthermore, taurine partially reversed the reduction of antioxidant genes Nrf2、HO-1, CAT and GPx mRNA levels in distal intestine induced by glycinin. Concluded, 80 g/kg glycinin led to intestinal damage, digestive dysfunction and increased intestinal mucosal permeability in juvenile Rhynchocypris lagowskii Dybowski, and these adverse effects were ultimately manifested in growth inhibition. But taurine supplementation could partially mitigate the negative effects induced by glycinin.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to examine the influences of glycinin for growth and intestinal structural integrity related to oxidative damage, apoptosis and tight junction of juvenile hybrid yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco ♀ × Pelteobaggrus vachelli ♂). Fish (initial weight, 1.02 ± 0.01 g) were fed diets containing five different levels of glycinin at 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% for 8 weeks. The results demonstrated that dietary glycinin levels had a negative correlation with final weight, feed intake, protein efficiency ratio and survival rate of the experiment fish. When the level of dietary glycinin exceeded 4%, the structural integrity of the posterior intestine was observably impaired, characterized by disordered and exfoliated margin of intestinal villi, blurred and broken boundaries of tight junctions, damaged organelles and cell vacuolation. Levels of 4–8% dietary glycinin depressed the total antioxidant capacity and total superoxide dismutase activities of posterior intestine. Furthermore, a high level of dietary glycinin linearly and quadratically down-regulated the mRNA expressions of Claudin-1, Occludin and ZO-1, while it linearly and significantly up-regulated the mRNA expressions of Bax, Cyt C, Caspase 3, Caspase 9 and p53 in the posterior intestine. In conclusion, dietary 4–8% glycinin impaired the morphological structure of the posterior intestine by inducing oxidative stress and cell apoptosis, and eventually impeded the growth performance of juvenile hybrid yellow catfish.

Abstract
The utilization efficiency of soy protein is affected by its 2 anti-nutritional substances-the antigens β-conglycinin and glycinin. This study investigated their effects on the growth performance, intestinal immune defense, and microbiome in juvenile pearl gentian groupers (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus♀ × Epinephelus lanceolatus♂). Three isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated containing fishmeal supplemented with 70 g/kg β-conglycinin or 100 g/kg glycinin, or no supplementation (control). Each experimental diet was fed to quadruplicate groups with 30 fish in each tank for 8 weeks. Dietary inclusion of either β-conglycinin or glycinin significantly reduced weight gain and specific growth rates, and cell proliferation of the distal intestine. Histological evaluation of the intestine tract revealed the inflammation signs, characterized by reducing of plica height and width as well as the number of the goblet cells, and widening of the lamina propria. The group fed the β-conglycinin diet had reduced lysozyme activity, contents of immunoglobulin M and complements 3 and 4. Increased activities of caspase-3 and -9 were observed in the group fed the β-conglycinin diet compared to the other 2 groups. In the intestinal microbiota, the relative abundances of the potentially pathogenic genera Photobacterium and Vibrio were significantly higher in the glycinin group than those in others. Therefore, the existence of soybean antigens (β-conglycinin or glycinin) could damage the structural integrity of the intestine, reduce immune defense, reshape the intestinal microbiome and, ultimately, impair growth in fish.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effect of the growth stage of Procambarus clarkii on their intestinal microbiota. Intestinal samples of five different growth stages of P. clarkii (first instar, second instar, third instar, juvenile, and adult) from laboratory culture were analyzed through the Illumina MiSeq high-throughput sequencing platform to determine the intestinal microbiome of crayfish. The alpha diversity decreased along with the growth of the crayfish, with the relative abundance of the microbiota changing among stages; crayfish at closer development stages had a more comparable intestinal microbiota composition. A comparative analysis by principal component analysis and principal coordinate analysis showed that there were significant differences in the intestinal microbiota of crayfish among the different growth stages, except for the first two stages of larval crayfish, and the intestinal microbiota showed a consistent progression pattern from the larval stage to the juvenile stage. Some microbiota showed stage specificity, which might be the characteristic microbiota of different stages of growth. According to FAPROTAX functional clustering analysis, the three stages of larvae were clustered together, while the juvenile and adult stages were clustered separately according to the growth stage, indicating that, in the early stages of larval development, the function of the intestinal flora was similar; as the body grew and developed, the composition and function of the intestinal microbiota also changed.

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the effects of dietary digested soybean protein (DSP) and taurine on bile acid (BA) level, lipase activity, lipid apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC), and growth performance of pompano (Trachinotus blochii). Five diets were formulated with fish meal (FM), defatted soybean meal (SBM), and the DSP as main dietary protein sources. The diets were denoted as follows: FMD (FM-based diet), SBMD (SBM-based diet), SBM+TD (SBM-based diet plus taurine), DSPD (DSP-based diet), and DSP+TD (DSP-based diet plus taurine). Fingerling pompano with an initial body weight (BW) of 21.4 g were stocked in 500-L tanks, with triplicate tanks per dietary treatment. For 8 weeks, the fish were hand-fed the experimental diets to apparent satiation twice daily. The results showed that the DSPD and DSP+TD groups had significantly higher final BW, weight gain, and specific growth rate, but lower feed conversion ratio, than the SBMD and SBM+TD groups, respectively (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in growth and feed performances between fish fed DSP+TD and FMD. The gallbladder and anterior intestinal BA levels, anterior intestinal lipase activity, and lipid and protein ADCs were markedly increased in fish fed DSPD and DSP+TD compared to those fed SBMD (P < 0.05), and no significant differences were detected between the DSP+TD and FMD groups. The findings of the present study suggested that dietary DSP inclusion with taurine supplementation might effectively improve lipid digestion and this contributed to growth enhancement in pompano fed a soybean protein-based diet.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of dietary myo-inositol (MI) on growth performance, antioxidant status and lipid metabolism of juvenile Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) fed different percentage of lipid. Crabs (4·58 (sem 0·05) g) were fed four diets including a normal lipid diet (N, containing 7 % lipid and 0 mg/kg MI), N with MI supplementation (N + MI, containing 7 % lipid and 1600 mg/kg MI), a high lipid diet (H, containing 13 % lipid and 0 mg/kg MI) and H with MI supplementation (H + MI, containing 13 % lipid and 1600 mg/kg MI) for 8 weeks. The H + MI group showed higher weight gain and specific growth rate than those in the H group. The dietary MI could improve the lipid accumulations in the whole body, hepatopancreas and muscle as a result of feeding on the high dietary lipid (13 %) in crabs. Besides, the crabs fed the H + MI diets increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes but reduced the malondialdehyde content in hepatopancreas compared with those fed the H diets. Moreover, dietary MI enhanced the expression of genes involved in lipid oxidation and exportation, yet reduced lipid absorption and synthesis genes expression in the hepatopancreas of crabs fed the H diet, which might be related to the activation of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (IP3R)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase-β (CaMKKβ)/adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signalling pathway. This study demonstrates that MI could increase lipid utilisation and reduce lipid deposition in the hepatopancreas of E. sinensis fed a high lipid diet through IP3R/CaMKKβ/AMPK activation. This work provides new insights into the function of MI in the diet of crustaceans.

Abstract
The mucosa of vertebrates is a particularly complex but dynamic environment in which the host constantly interacts with trillions of commensal microorganisms and pathogens. Although the internal and external mucosal microbiomes with immune defense of mammals have been well investigated, the relationship between mucosal microbes and their host’s immune responses has not been systematically understood in the early vertebrates. In this study, we compared the composition and distribution of mucosal microbiota in common carp (Cyprinus carpio), and found that there were significant differences of microbiota between in the internal (gut) and external mucosal (buccal mucosa, gills and skin) tissues. Next, we successfully constructed an infection model with spring viremia of carp virus (SVCV). Specifically, following viral infection, the immune and antiviral related genes showed different up-regulation in all selected mucosal tissues while significant morphological changes were only found in external tissues including buccal mucosa, gills and skin. Using 16S rRNA gene sequence, we revealed that the abundance of Proteobacteria in mucosal tissues including buccal mucosa, gills and gut showed increased trend after viral infection, whereas the abundance of Fusobacteria significantly decreased in gut. In addition, the loss of dominant commensal microorganisms and increased colonization of opportunistic bacteria were discovered in the mucosal surfaces indicating that a secondary bacterial infection might occur in these mucosal tissues after viral infection. Overall, our results firstly point out the distribution of internal and external mucosal microbiota and analyze the changes of mucosal microbiota in common carp after SVCV infection, which may indicated that the potential role of mucosal microbiota in the antiviral process in early vertebrates.

Abstract
Soy glycinin (11S) is involved in immune regulation. As an additive, sodium butyrate (SB) can relieve inflammation caused by 11S. To further delve into the mechanisms. A diet containing 50% fishmeal was the control group (FM group), and the experimental groups consisted of the FM group baseline plus 2% glycinin (GL group), 8% glycinin (GH group), and 8% glycinin + 0.13% sodium butyrate (GH-SB group). The specific growth ratio (SGR), feed utilization, and density of distal intestinal (DI) type II mucous cells were increased in the GL group. In the serum, IFN-γ was significantly upregulated in the GL group, and IgG and IL-1β were upregulated in the GH group. IgG, IL-1β, and TNF-α in the GH-SB group were significantly downregulated compared to those in the GH group. The mRNA levels of mTOR C1, mTOR C2, and Deptor were upregulated in the GL, GH, and GH-SB groups in the DI compared with those in the FM group, while the mRNA levels of mTOR C1 and Deptor in the GH group were higher than those in the GL and GH-SB groups. 4E-BP1, RICTOR, PRR5, MHC II, and CD4 were upregulated in the GH group. TSC1, mLST8, and NFY mRNA levels in the GL and GH-SB groups were upregulated compared with those in the FM and GH groups. Western blotting showed P-PI3KSer294/T-PI3K, P-AktSer473/T-Akt, and P-mTORSer2448/T-mTOR were upregulated in the GH group. Collectively, our results demonstrate that low-dose 11S could improve serum immune by secreting IFN-γ. The overexpression of IgG and IL-1β is the reason that high-dose 11S reduces serum immune function, and supplementing SB can suppress this overexpression. Low-dose 11S can block the relationship between PI3K and mTOR C2. It can also inhibit the expression of 4E-BP1 through mTOR C1. High-dose 11S upregulates 4E-BP2 through mTOR C1, aggravating intestinal inflammation. SB could relieve inflammation by blocking PI3K/mTOR C2 and inhibiting 4E-BP2. Generally speaking, the hybrid grouper obtained different serum and DI immune responses under different doses of 11S, and these responses were ultimately manifested in growth performance. SB can effectively enhance serum immunity and relieve intestinal inflammation caused by high dose 11S.

Abstract
The current study aims to investigate the effects of dietary T-2 toxin on the intestinal health and microflora in the juvenile Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) with an initial weight 2.00 ± 0.05 g. Juvenile crabs were fed with experimental diets supplemented with T-2 toxin at 0 (control), 0.6 (T1 group), 2.5 (T2 group) and 5.0 (T3 group) mg/kg diet for 8 weeks. Dietary T-2 toxin increased the malondialdehyde (MDA) content and the expression of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (keap1) gene while the expression of cap 'n' collar isoform C (CncC) decreased in the intestine. The activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and total anti-oxidation capacity (T-AOC) in the intestine increased only in the lower dose of dietary T-2. Dietary T-2 toxin significantly increased the mRNA expression of caspase-3, caspase-8, Bax and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) genes and the ratio of Bax to Bcl-2 accompanied with a reduction of Bcl-2 expression. Furthermore, T-2 toxin decreased the mRNA levels of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), peritrophic membrane (PM1 and PM2) and immune regulated nuclear transcription factors (Toll-like receptor: TLR, myeloid differentiation primary response gene 88: Myd88, relish and lipopolysaccharide-induced TNF-α factor: LITAF). The richness and diversity of the gut microbiota were also affected by dietary T-2 toxin in T3 group. The similar dominant phyla in the intestine of the Chinese mitten crab in the control and T3 groups were found including Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Tenericutes and Proteobacteria. Moreover, the inclusion of dietary T-2 toxin of 4.6 mg/kg significantly decreased the richness of Bacteroidetes and increased the richness of Firmicutes, Tenericutes and Proteobacteria in the intestine. At the genus level, Dysgonomonas and Romboutsia were more abundant in T3 group than those in the control. However, the abundances of Candidatus Bacilloplasma, Chryseobacterium and Streptococcus in T3 group were lower than those in the control. This study indicates that T-2 toxin could cause oxidative damage and immunosuppression, increase apoptosis and disturb composition of microbiota in the intestine of Chinese mitten crab.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have reported the health-promoting effects of exopolysaccharides (EPSs) in in vitro models; however, a functional evaluation of EPSs will provide additional knowledge of EPS-microbe interactions by in vivo intestinal microbial model. In the present study, high-throughput amplicon sequencing, short-chain fatty acid (SCFAs) and intestinal inflammation evaluation were performed to explore the potential benefits of exopolysaccharides (EPSs) and EPS-producing Lactobacillus (HNUB20 group) using the healthy zebrafish (Danio rerio) model. RESULTS The results based on microbial taxonomic analysis revealed that the abundance of four genera, Ochrobactrum, Sediminibacterium, Sphingomonas and Sphingobium, were increased in the control group in comparison to HNUB20 group. Pelomonas spp. levels were significantly higher and that of the genera Lactobacillus and Brachybacterium were significantly decreased in EPS group compared with control group. PICRUSt based functional prediction of gut microbiota metabolic pathways indicated that significantly lower abundance was found for transcription, and membrane transport, whereas folding, sorting and degradation and energy metabolism had significantly higher abundance after HNUB20 treatment. Two metabolic pathways, including metabolism and endocrine functions, were more abundant in the EPS group than control group. Similar to the HNUB20 group, transcription was also decreased in the EPS group compared with the control group. However, SCFAs and immune indexes indicated EPS and HNUB20 performed limited efficacy in the healthy zebrafish. CONCLUSIONS The present intestinal microbial model-based study indicated that EPSs and high-yield EPS-producing Lactobacillus can shake the structure of intestinal microbiota, but cannot change SCFAs presence and intestinal inflammation.

Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the dynamic process of soybean β-conglycinin in digestion, absorption, and metabolism in the intestine of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella). Fish fed with 80 g β-conglycinin/kg diet for 7 weeks, the intestinal digestive enzyme was extracted to hydrolyze β-conglycinin in vitro, the free amino acid and its metabolism product contents in intestinal segments were analyzed. The present study first found that β-conglycinin cannot be thoroughly digested by fish intestine digestive enzyme and produces new products (about 60- and 55-kDa polypeptides). The indigestible β-conglycinin further caused the free amino acid imbalance, especially caused free essential amino acid deficiency in the proximal intestine but excess in the distal intestine. Moreover, these results might be partly associated with the effect of β-conglycinin in amino acid transporters and tight junction-regulated paracellular pathway. Finally, dietary β-conglycinin increased the content of amino acid catabolism by-product ammonia while decreased the amino acid anabolism product carnosine content in the proximal intestine and distal intestine. Thus, the current study first and systemically explored the dynamic process of β-conglycinin in digestion, absorption, and metabolism, which further supported our previous study that dietary β-conglycinin suppressed fish growth and caused intestine injure.

Abstract
Butyrate is a fermentation byproduct of gut microbiota and is susceptible to chronic oxidative stress. This study investigates the mitigative effects of sodium butyrate (SBT) on growth inhibition and intestinal damage induced by glycinin in juvenile Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis). All four experimental diets containing 80 g/kg glycinin were formulated with 0, 10, 20 and 40 g/kg SBT respectively. There was no glycinin or SBT in the control diet. Juvenile crabs (0.33 ± 0.01g) were respectively fed with these five diets for eight weeks. The diets with 10 and 20 g/kg SBT significantly improved the survival and weight gain of the crabs compared with those in the 0 g/kg SBT group, and showed no difference with the control group. The crabs fed diets containing glycinin without SBT had lower glutathione and glutathione peroxidase activities but higher malondialdehyde in the intestine than those in the control group. Moreover, dietary glycinin decreased the lysozyme and phenoloxidase activities and improved the level of histamine in the intestine compared with the control group, while the supplementation of SBT counteracted these negative effects. The addition of SBT could also restore the impaired immunity and morphological structure of the intestine. Dietary SBT could increase the mRNA expression of antimicrobial peptides genes (anti-lipopolysaccharide factor 1 and 2) and decrease the content of pro-inflammatory factor TNF-α. The SBT could restore the intestinal microbial community disorganized by glycinin. The abundance of pathogenic bacteria (Aeromonas, Vibrio and Pseudomonas) decreased significantly and the potential probiotic bacteria (Bacillus, Lactobacillus, Chitinibacter and Dysgonomonas) increased significantly in the 10 g/kg SBT group. This study suggests that sodium butyrate supplementation can mitigate the negative effects induced by glycinin such as growth inhibition, intestinal inflammation and reduction of beneficial flora in the gut.

Abstract
To understand the efficacy of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) as probiotics on the growth, immune response and intestinal microbiota of turbot Scophthalmus maximus, in this study, the Leuconostoc mesenteroides HY2 strain screened from wide caught fish was bath administrated for juvenile turbot with no bacteria administrated as control. The mRNA levels of toll-like receptors 3 (TLR3), interleukin 8 (IL-8) and interferon induced with helicase C domain 1 (IFIH1) in different organs (i.e. intestine, liver, spleen, kidney, brain and skin) were analyzed using RT-PCR technology. The intestinal microbiota was analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing, in which principal co-ordinates analysis (PCoA) as well as cluster analysis was performed. The results showed that the specific growth rate of turbot in the LAB treatment was significantly higher than those of the control group (P < 0.05). The expression levels of TLR3, IL-8 and IFIH1 were significantly up-regulated in the organs of LAB treatment, except that IL-8 was slightly down-regulated in kidney. A total of 42 phyla in intestinal microbiota were identified. The composition of intestinal microbiota showed significant differences between LAB treatment and the control group. Shannon index in the LAB treatment was significantly increased while Simpson index significantly declined. The PCoA and cluster analysis exhibited significant differences in the composition and abundance between the two groups. Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes and Actinobacteria acted as biomarkers which may have effects to promote absorption and/or trigger the immune function. In conclusion, the administration of HY2 strain was capable of improving growth performance of turbot by enhancing immune response and optimizing structure and diversity of intestinal microbiota.

Abstract
The T-2 toxin is a trichothecene mycotoxin and is highly toxic to aquatic animals, but little is known on its toxic effect in crustaceans. In the present study, the crab juveniles were fed with diets containing four levels of T-2 toxin: 0 (control), 0.6 (T1), 2.5 (T2) and 5.0 (T3) mg/kg diet for 56 days to evaluate its impact on the juvenile of Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis). The crabs fed the T-2 toxin diets had significantly lower weight gain and specific growth rate than those fed the control diet. Moreover, crab survival in T3 group was obviously lower than that in the control. Oxidative stress occurred in all the treatment groups as indicated by higher activities of total superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and total antioxidant capacity than those in the control. The total hemocyte count, respiratory burst, phenoloxidase in the hemolymph, and phenoloxidase, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase in the hepatopancreas of crabs fed T-2 toxin were significantly lower than those in the control. The transcriptional expressions of lipopolysaccharide-induced TNF-alpha factor, relish, and the apoptosis genes in the hepatopancreas were induced by dietary T-2 toxin. The genes related to detoxication including cytochrome P450 gene superfamily and glutathione S transferase were induced in low concentration, then decreased in high concentration. Dietary T-2 toxin damaged the hepatopancreas structure, especially as seen in the detached basal membrane of hepatopancreatic tubules. This study indicates that dietary T-2 toxin can reduce growth performance, deteriorate health status and cause hepatopancreas dysfunction in crabs.

Abstract
The present study evaluated the influence of dietary soybean glycinin on growth performance, intestinal morphology, free intestinal amino acid (AA) content, and intestinal AA transporter (AAT) mRNA levels in juvenile grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella). Results were displayed as follows: (1) 8% dietary glycinin decreased growth performance, inhibited intestinal growth, and caused intestinal histology damage of grass carp; (2) dietary glycinin decreased the content of free neutral AAs including Val, Ser, Tyr, Ala, Pro, and Gln in all intestinal segments, and Thr, Ile, Leu, Phe, and Gly in the MI and DI while downregulated the mRNA levels of corresponding transporters including SLC38A2, SLC6A19b, and SLC6A14 in all intestinal segments, and SLC7A5, SLC7A8, and SLC1A5 in the MI and DI. Dietary glycinin decreased the content of free basic AAs including Arg in the MI and DI and His in all intestinal segments while downregulated cationic AAT SLC7A1 mRNA levels in the MI and DI. Dietary glycinin decreased the content of free acidic AAs including Glu in all intestinal segments and Asp in the MI and DI while decreased mRNA levels of corresponding transporters including SLC1A2a in all intestinal segments and SLC1A3 in the MI and DI; (3) the digestion trial showed that basic subunits of glycinin was hard to digest in the intestine of grass carp; (4) co-administration of glutamine with glycinin partially alleviated the negative effects. Overall, glycinin decreased intestinal AA absorption capacity partly contributed by decreased AATs' mRNA levels and the indigestibility of glycinin.

Abstract
To investigate the effects of arginine (Arg) on the growth, antioxidant capacity, immunity and disease resistance of juvenile Chinese mitten crab, three diets containing Arg levels at 1.72% (control), 2.73% and 3.72% were formulated and fed to Chinese mitten crab (0.22 ± 0.03 g) for eight weeks. The weight gain, ecdysterone and growth hormone in the serum, relative expression of insulin-like growth factor 2 in the hepatopancreas significantly increased in crabs fed the 2.73% and 3.72% Arg diets. The protein and lipid contents significantly increased in crabs fed the 3.72% Arg diet. The feed conversion ratios in crabs fed the diets with Arg additions were lower than in the control. Arg supplementation also enhanced the antioxidative capacity by increasing the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and the relative expression of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 gene in the hepatopancreas, which subsequently decreased malondialdehyde content in the hepatopancreas. Besides, Arg also decreased nitric oxide content in the serum and the activity of nitric oxide synthetase in the hepatopancreas. The relative mRNA levels of crustin, relish, lysozyme and cryptocyanin genes were significantly upregulated by Arg supplementation. The activities of acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase in the serum significantly increased in crabs fed the 3.72% Arg diet than those in the control. Similarly, the relative mRNA levels of crustin, cryptocyanin and proPO genes were significantly upregulated in crabs fed the 2.73% Arg diet after lipopolysaccharide challenge, and in crabs fed the 3.72% Arg diet after the Poly (I:C) challenge. The crabs fed the 2.73% and 3.72% Arg diets had higher survival rate after bacterial infection than those fed the control diet. This study indicates that the addition of Arg to the diet at 2.7-3.7% can improve the growth, survival, antioxidant capacity, immunity and disease resistance in juvenile Chinese mitten crab.
