Abstract
In the rapidly evolving field of healthcare research, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and conversational models like ChatGPT (Conversational Generative Pre-trained Transformer) offer promising tools for data analysis. The aim of this study was to: 1) apply ChatGPT methodology alongside human coding to analyze qualitative health services feedback, and 2) examine healthcare experiences among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) patients (N = 41) to inform future intervention. The hybrid approach facilitated the identification of themes related to affirming care practices, provider education, communicative challenges and successes, and environmental cues. While ChatGPT accelerated the coding process, human oversight remained crucial for ensuring data integrity and context accuracy. This hybrid method promises significant improvements in analyzing patient feedback, providing actionable insights that could enhance patient-provider interactions and care for diverse populations. Innovation: This study is the first to combine ChatGPT with human coding for rapid thematic analysis of LGBTQ+ patient primary care experiences.

Abstract
PURPOSE Diabetes Mellitus (DM) management is increasingly focusing on patient-centered care, making patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) critical for understanding the subjective aspects of diabetes treatment and self-management. These measures differ based on cultural contexts and individual perspectives, leading different countries to the development of country-specific tools to assess care quality from the patient's viewpoint. This review aimed to identify available instruments for assessing patient-reported experiences in individuals with diabetes and examine the different domains, items, and the validity and reliability of these instruments. METHODS Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, databases including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane, and Scopus were searched for English-language articles without year limitations. This scoping review focused on PREMs that evaluate the quality of diabetes care among adolescent and adult patients with type 1 and type 2 DM. Studies that used patient expectation questionnaires, involved individuals not receiving care, or focused on patient-reported outcomes rather than experiences were excluded. RESULTS Eight articles from six countries representing different healthcare settings were included, mostly from developed countries. A variety of methodologies were used to develop these PREM instruments, with unique domains and items. Content analysis revealed five commonly measured domains: (1) care planning, (2) patient education, (3) professionalism, (4) quality of care, and (5) hospital care and transition, reflecting diverse patient experiences across healthcare services. CONCLUSIONS This scoping review identifies a limited number of tools for evaluating PREMs in diabetes care, highlighting variability in their development and domain coverage. Five core domains are proposed across different settings, with an emphasis on culturally adapted measures to enhance the accuracy of patient experience capture in diverse populations.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) are patient reports about their healthcare, whereas patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are reports about their functioning and well-being regarding physical, mental, and social health. We provide a perspective on using PREMs and PROMs in ambulatory healthcare. AREAS COVERED We conducted a narrative review of the literature about using PREMs and PROMs in research and clinical practice, identified challenges and possibilities for addressing them, and provided suggestions for future research and clinical practice. EXPERT OPINION Substantial progress in using PREMs and PROMs has occurred during the last half-century. Collecting and reporting PREMs to clinicians in ambulatory care settings has improved communication with patients, diagnosis, and treatment, which may improve patients' health. Optimal use requires appropriate data analysis, minimizing implementation barriers, and facilitating interpretation of PREMs and PROMs in clinical practice. Also, formal structures and processes that include patient and family input into care improvement are needed (e.g. patient and family advisory councils as partners in co-design and coproduction of quality improvement). PREMs and PROMs have been used primarily in more affluent countries (e.g. the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Japan, and Portugal), but this is expected to increase in many countries.

Abstract
Patient safety is a priority for all healthcare systems. Despite this, too many patients still suffer harm as a consequence of healthcare. Furthermore, it has a significant impact on family members, professionals and healthcare institutions, resulting in considerable economic costs. The critically ill patient is particularly vulnerable to adverse events. Numerous safe practices have been implemented, acknowledging the influence of human factors on safety and the significance of the well-being of professionals, as well as the impact of critical episodes at hospital discharge on patients and their families. Training and engagement of professionals, patients and families are of paramount importance. Recently, artificial intelligence has demonstrated its ability to enhance clinical safety. This update on "Patient Safety" reviews all these aspects related to one of the most pivotal dimensions of healthcare quality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Supporting clinical teams to improve care for inpatients with palliative care needs and their carers is a known priority. Patient reported experience measures (PREMs) may assist in improvement work. Evidence about how to collect and feedback PREM data for this population and context is required. AIM To determine the feasibility of implementing a brief, validated PREM, consideRATE and appraise its acceptability as perceived by inpatients with palliative care needs, their carers and clinicians. DESIGN A prospective study using: 1) PREM administration, screening log and field note completion; and; 2) a focus group with clinicians. SETTING/PARTICIPANTS Eligible participants recruited from three wards (cancer care and internal medicine) of an Australian tertiary metropolitan hospital. Participants included patients screened to have palliative care needs (using the SPICTTM criteria), their carers and multidisciplinary clinicians (including clinical managers). RESULTS Feasibility: A 71% response rate was achieved (n = 80 from 112 eligible patients approached). Mean screening time to inform eligible patients for PREM completion was 7.5 min. More than half of eligible participants (n = 47, 59%) opted for electronic completion of consideRATE and mean completion time was 6.12 min. A third of participants required assistance for PREM completion (n = 27, 34%). Score distribution varied across response options, albeit with a positive skew towards 'very good' and 'good'. Two thirds of respondents (n = 50, 62.5%) provided ⩾1 free-text response. Acceptability: Clinicians valued consideRATE data noting feedback needed to be: accessible, supported by free-text and responsive to local contexts. CONCLUSIONS It is feasible to implement consideRATE for inpatients with palliative care needs. Clinicians note consideRATE data is acceptable in informing improvement foci.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition affecting more than 800 million individuals worldwide. Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) are questionnaires aimed at evaluating patients' experiences with healthcare received. Given that CKD management often involves continuous treatments, capturing patient experiences can guide improvements in care that align with patients' preferences, making PREMS a relevant tool in CKD management. The Kidney PREM questionnaire was developed in the United Kingdom to measure patient experience across entire service provisions in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aimed to adapt the English version to Spanish and Catalan and assess the face validity of the new language versions. METHODS The translation process was guided by the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcome Research (ISPOR) Principles of Good Practice for the Translation and Cultural Adaptation of Patient‑Reported Outcomes Measures and included forward and back translation, cognitive debriefing, and harmonisation between the Spanish and Catalan versions. Face validity was assessed in a sample of Spanish- and Catalan-speaking health professionals. RESULTS In the cognitive debriefing, 9 patients with CKD (4 in Catalan and 5 in Spanish) participated. Fourteen healthcare professionals (2 nurses and 12 nephrologists) assessed the face validity of the Catalan and Spanish versions. Overall, the language used in the original version of the questionnaire did not cause substantial problems for translation into Catalan or Spanish. Patients generally found the questionnaire to be relevant and relatively easy to complete but reported some difficulties with questionnaire design, including the use of 'skip' questions. Clinicians and nurses highly rated the questionnaire in terms of relevance (mean score of 8.7 on a 0-10 scale) and acceptability, indicating good face validity, but considered some elements to be lacking, such as the absence of an open-ended question or any queries regarding lifestyle. CONCLUSIONS It was feasible to produce culturally adapted Spanish and Catalan versions of the Kidney PREM questionnaire, and they showed acceptable face validity. They will be useful tools for furthering research and clinical practice in CKD patients in Spain.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: In recent years, the number of cancer survivors has rapidly increased in Switzerland, as well as worldwide. As cancer increasingly becomes a chronic condition, numerous bio-psycho-social and spiritual challenges emerge, leading to significant needs for this population. The aims of this study were to determine the experiences of Swiss cancer survivors with two domains, i.e., health-related information and healthcare systems, and their risk factors, and to see whether these experiences align with the needs identified in the literature. Methods: Data from the cross-sectional multicentred survey Swiss Cancer Patient Experiences were analysed. A total of 1870 adult Swiss cancer survivors were included in the analysis. For each domain, an overall score ranging between 0 (poor experience) and 10 (excellent experience) was constructed including 11 and 10 questions, respectively. The questions that highlighted non-positive experiences by patients were grouped to calculate so-called "problematic" scores for each domain; linear and logistic regressions were conducted to identify the variables influencing these problematic scores needs. Results: The mean overall and "problematic" scores were 7.5 (SD 2.6) and 6.8 (SD 3.2), respectively, for health-related information, and 8.0 (SD 2.4) and 7.0 (SD 3.6), respectively, for the healthcare system. Four variables were found to be associated with the problematic scores: geographical location, foregoing care, self-assessed health, and level of health literacy. Conclusions: Swiss cancer survivors reported problematic experiences in the domains of information and healthcare systems which could lead to unmet needs. The systematic assessment of these needs is recommended to improve patients' experiences and provide more effective and supportive follow-up care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Patient reported measures of hospital care are known predictors of readmission, even after accounting for risk related to age and comorbidities. This study aimed to determine the association between patient experience of diabetes-related foot disease (DFD) hospital care and unplanned hospital readmission, with a primary focus on DFD-related readmissions and a secondary focus on all-cause readmissions. METHODS A retrospective longitudinal cohort study was conducted by linking NSW Adult Admitted Patient Survey data with administrative hospital data for persons hospitalised with DFD identified through diagnostic and/or procedure codes. Univariable and multivariable shared-frailty Cox regression models were used to examine the association between key aspects of patient experiences and 90-days unplanned hospital readmission over the period 2019-2022. RESULTS Overall, 3,173 DFD patients were included. Ninety-day readmission rates for respondents with DFD were 9% for DFD-related readmissions and 16% for all-cause readmissions. Adults with DFD who could not understand explanations offered by health professionals were at increased risk of DFD-related readmission compared to those who could always understand (Hazard ratio (HR) 2.43, CI: 1.47-4.00), as well as patients who did not feel well enough to leave hospital at discharge (HR 1.93, CI: 1.41-2.64) or reported the care received was not well organised (HR 2.24, 1.45-3.47). Patients reporting that they did not receive enough information regarding their condition, treatment, or how to manage care at home were found to have a DFD-related readmission risk that was 1.5 to 1.8-times greater than those who did. Similar patterns were observed for all-cause readmissions, albeit with generally smaller effect sizes. CONCLUSIONS The findings highlight that elements of care related to communication, coordination, and involvement in decision making may influence unplanned readmission rates for patients with chronic conditions, such as DFD. The impact appears to be more pronounced for DFD-related readmissions compared to all-cause readmissions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Measures of patient experience are increasingly valued as key to healthcare quality assessment. We aimed to identify and describe publicly available measures assessing patient-reported experience of solid organ transplantation healthcare, and identify patient groups, healthcare settings, or aspects of patient experience underserved by existing measures. METHODS We systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane CENTRAL, Scopus and Web of Science from inception to 6th July 2023; supplemented with grey literature searches. Two reviewers independently screened search hits; outputs reporting patient-reported measures of multiple aspects of established solid organ transplantation healthcare were eligible. We abstracted measure context, characteristics, content (i.e., attributes of patient experience assessed), and development and validation processes. RESULTS We identified nine outputs reporting eight measures of patient experience; these related only to kidney (n = 5) or liver (n = 3) transplantation, with no available measures relating to heart, lung, pancreas or intestinal transplantation. Of the identified measures, four were specific to solid organ transplant recipients. Measures sought to assess "patient satisfaction" (n = 4) and "patient experience" (n = 4) of healthcare. Measures mapped to between five and 16 of 20 attributes of patient experience, most often Information and education, Communication, and Access to care (all n = 7). Six measures reported a development process, only three reported a validation process. CONCLUSIONS Publicly available patient-reported measures of organ transplantation healthcare experiences are limited to kidney and liver transplantation. There is heterogeneity in measure context, characteristics, and content, and insufficient clarity concerning how well measures capture the specific experiences of transplant recipients. Formalised measures of patient experience, specific to solid organ transplantation, with transparent reporting of development and validity are needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Individuals living with diabetes are often hospitalized. Despite this, little is known about their experiences with hospital care. In this study, we examined the comprehensive experiences of patients hospitalized due to diabetes in Alberta, Canada, and compared them with those of patients hospitalized for other chronic conditions. METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study that linked survey data with inpatient records. Survey data were collected using the Canadian Patient Experiences Survey-Inpatient Care (CPES-IC) instrument. Results from 37 questions were classified as percent in "top box," which reflects the most positive answer choice. We also examined the association between overall experience and demographic and clinical factors among those living with diabetes. RESULTS Over a 7-year period, 12,593 surveys (2,288 with diabetes and 10,305 with other chronic conditions) were obtained. Patients hospitalized due to diabetes had lower "top-box" scores on 24 questions, higher scores on 3 questions, and the remaining 10 questions showed no difference between groups. Those hospitalized due to diabetes indicated potential areas for improvement. These included receiving information about their condition and about the admission process, the nighttime quietness of their hospital room, being informed about possible side effects of new medications, and pain control. Overall experience was also shown to vary according to demographic and clinical factors. CONCLUSIONS We found that individuals hospitalized due to diabetes reported lower experience scores than those hospitalized due to other chronic conditions. Our findings may be used to develop strategies to improve the patient experience among this cohort.

Abstract
Background Patient experiences have not been documented at all India level among older adults for inpatient and outpatient services. We provide all-India and sub national estimates on six domains of patient experience, namely: waiting time, respectful treatment, clarity of explanation provided, privacy during consultation, treated by provider of choice, and cleanliness of facility. Methods Unit records of adults aged 45 years and above for their inpatient (n = 4330) or outpatient (n = 33,724) service use were assessed from the Longitudinal Ageing Survey of India (LASI), conducted in 2017-18. We identified patient experience as negative if the respondent rated it as either "Bad" or "Very Bad" on a five-point Likert scale. We computed proportion of negative experience by socio-economic status, geographic location, and type of healthcare facilities. We used binary logistic regression to estimate predictors of negative patient experience, and a three-level logistic regression model to partition the total geographic variation of patient experiences. Findings Most individuals rated their experience in all six domains as "Good". Negative experiences were higher among patients who used public facilities, specifically for waiting time and cleanliness of facility. Among inpatients, the higher-than-average negative experience was noted in the north and northwest, while among outpatients, it was higher in the northeast. The largest geographic variation in negative patient experience was attributable to the villages/CEBs for all domains in outpatient services and three domains of inpatient services, whereas states accounted for the other three inpatient domains. Interpretation Majority of older adults rated their experience of healthcare use positively, but less for public health facilities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Health professionals are at high risk of poor mental health and well-being. Faced with this challenge, healthcare organizations must be healthy and safe work environments. OBJECTIVES This study aims to take an in-depth, systemic look at whether healthcare organizations are healthy workplaces. METHODS The study involved 2190 participants aged between 19 and 71 (M = 44.73, SD = 10.29) and data were collected in 12 public hospitals between November 2021 and December 2023. The study used the Ecosystems of Healthy Workplaces instrument, which consists of a total of 62 items organized into nine dimensions based on the Healthy Workplaces model proposed by the World Health Organization. RESULTS Most dimensions revealed a moderate risk in terms of whether they were healthy work environments, while the dimension that revealed a high risk was related to psychosocial risks at work in relation to well-being and mental health. A total of 87% of the professionals reported at least one symptom of burnout and 61.4% reported having all three symptoms of burnout. Additionally, 25.4% reported having been victims of harassment at work. When comparing the groups, we identified that the higher risk groups were namely women, generation Z and X professionals, doctors (compared to the different professional groups under analysis such as nurses, operational assistants, psychologists, administrators, senior technicians, and managers), professionals with chronic illnesses, and those who reported harassment at work. CONCLUSIONS We conclude that the work environment must be understood ecologically, by analyzing the different systems and their relationships. This makes it possible to identify priority factors and groups for intervention.

Abstract
With increasing survival rates, the functional outcome and quality of life of trauma patients are gaining more importance. Survivors suffer from chronic pain, psychosomatic disorders, and unemployment as well as increased post-traumatic morbidity, which can lead to an impaired quality of life. So far, the TraumaRegister DGU® records patient data during in-hospital treatment. In this study severely injured patients after major trauma are assessed when discharged from hospital, as well as 6, 12 and 18 months after trauma. The aim is to document cross-sector patient pathways and to identify and quantify the factors influencing the health-related quality of life (hrQoL) and the return to work (RTW), using patient-reported experience measures (PREM) and patient reported outcome measures (PROM). Patients are recruited in certified trauma centers of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU). This study protocol describes the methodology of the prospective multicentre study of LeAf Trauma. Translation of the results will be implemented by using the network structures of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) for the treatment of patients with major trauma.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Patient reported experience measures (PREMs) are common tools utilised in hospitals to support quality improvements, allow consumers to provide feedback on care experiences and can be used to support consumers' hospital selections. This study aimed to understand the views and opinions of private hospital staff on PREM use and the utility of PREMs as a consumer decision-making tool. METHOD Qualitative, semi-structured interview study conducted via telephone between March-June 2023. Participants (n = 10) were recruited from major private healthcare providers in Australia with half representing hospital-based staff and the other half corporate head office staff who work in patient experience and quality. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and analysed thematically. RESULTS PREM benefits included an understanding of patient experience that improved provision of patient centred care with feedback acting as catalyst for change, to corporate-level strategic initiatives that address specific issues. Drawbacks of PREM reporting included concerns around skewed results by biased respondents, and completion based on hard to alter items (e.g., infrastructure) or on matters outside of hospital control (e.g., insurance). Staff had mixed reactions to consumers using PREMs results when selecting a hospital, some advocated for transparency while others feared consumers would misinterpret the data. CONCLUSIONS Improved real-time reporting of PREMs, learning from other industries about recording customer experience, and mandatory reporting by private hospitals could further the benefits of PREM measurement in private healthcare. Recognised was the need for PREMs to be displayed in a readily understood way so those with limited health literacy can correctly interpret.

Abstract
The prevalence of dementia is increasing globally, with an estimated 139 million people expected to be living with dementia by 2050. Across numerous countries, substandard care for people with dementia is evident, with quality improvement needed. Recently, a focus on patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) has been utilised in healthcare services as a method of evaluating the care experiences provided and determining areas of improvement. The literature is scarce regarding the feasibility and acceptability of implementing PREMs with people with moderate to advanced dementia. This scoping review aimed to identify PREMs that have been used with vulnerable populations including people with cognitive impairment, mental health concerns, and children, outline dimensions included, and determine adaptions made to the PREMs to improve acceptability of the instruments for vulnerable populations. A database search of Medline was conducted to identify 36 studies including 32 PREMs. The PREMs identified covered a range of dimensions, most frequently care effectiveness, care environment, and patient involvement. The most common adaption to the PREMs was simplification of wording and sentence structure. Several measures conflated patient outcomes and patient satisfaction with patient experience, limiting utility for improving patient experience specifically. While several PREMs have been used with people with dementia, challenges in their implementation and their applicability to specific settings limit their use more broadly. Evidently, there is a need for development of a PREM for people with moderate to advanced dementia that is applicable across healthcare settings and is appropriately adapted for varying cognitive and communicative barriers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) collect essential data for service and system-wide quality improvement and performance monitoring toward value-based care. However, the experiences of people with intellectual disability, who have high healthcare utilization couple with poorer outcomes, are often omitted from system-wide PREMs and service-wide PREMs data. The use of PREMs instruments for data collection among people with intellectual disability has not been explored. This review aimed to identify and synthesize measurement tools and approaches that have been used to gather patient-reported experience data from people with intellectual disability. METHODS Rapid evidence assessment was used, in which comprehensive search strategies were applied to electronic databases and gray literature. Narrative synthesis was used with the included articles to address the review aim. RESULTS A total of 48 documents were included; 26 peer-reviewed journal articles and 22 articles from gray literature. Patient-reported experiences have been gathered from people with intellectual disabilities in relation to specific services or encounters, predominantly using qualitative methods. To date, there is an absence of targeted service- or system-wide surveys. Existing clinic- and condition-specific instruments provide insight for broader application. CONCLUSIONS Patient experience assessment among people with intellectual disability requires consideration of (1) how individuals are identified and approached, (2) the content, design and structure of measurement instruments, and (3) the process by which data are collected, and (4) how it may be applied to create change. Despite the collection of patient experience data from people with intellectual disability, there is little research available about how this information is later used to support health service improvement. Applying PREMs for quality improvement is critical to realize the improvements to healthcare provision required for people with intellectual disability toward equitable care quality.

PURPOSE Near real-time patient experience feedback (NRTPEF) can enable a patient-centric, immediate service recovery but has not been widely used in inpatient rehabilitation. We 1) assess the utility, feasibility, and acceptability of implementing a new NRTPEF, perceived by patients and providers; and 2) understand how the NRTPEF became embedded into routine provider practices. MATERIALS AND METHODS Mixed methods process evaluation of the 8-month implementation of an innovative NRTPEF in an inpatient rehabilitation unit, using interviews and focus groups with all the service-unit leaders and interviews with a randomised sample of patients. Beyond descriptive statistics and content analysis, the Normalisation Process Theory (NPT) informed a framework analysis. RESULTS Patients and service-unit leaders perceived high utility in the NRTPEF (median: 9 for both; 0-10 scale) and qualitative comments emphasised the value of providing/obtaining timely feedback. The system was found feasible and acceptable for patients (median: 9.5), but with an improvement margin for providers (median: 7.3). Suggestions include strengthening the data-relay format. Even in the pilot form, providers found the NRTPEF became embedded into practice (median 10; average: 8.6). The analysis based on the NPT shows how providers saw differential value, engaged with, and used the patient feedback into reconfigured practices. CONCLUSION An innovative NRTPEF was found useful, feasible and acceptable, but with refinement opportunities before scale-up.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the relational and functional aspects of patient safety through the experiences reported by the patients themselves and/or their caregivers in intensive care units. METHOD Scoping review developed with searches, in September 2021 and updated in November 2022, in the following databases: Virtual Health Library, considering only the LILACS, BDENF, IBECS, ColecionaSUS databases; SCIELO, PsycINFO, EMBASE, COCHRANE, CINAHL, SCOPUS and Web of Science. RESULTS The final selection included 14 articles highlighting communication as an essential relational factor for care safety. The most predominant functional aspects were physical care environment, structured protocols, and the performance of professionals in the care process. CONCLUSION Communication processes were predominant in relational aspects and were decisive for functional aspects, with emphasis on the performance of professionals in the care process. Instruments developed for quality process analysis were used in most of the studies.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patient experience is fundamental to Patient-Centered Care (PCC). Although prior bibliometric research studies have focused on various aspects of PCC, a comprehensive analysis of PREM articles is required to understand its impact on the clinical practices. This study aims to analyze the top 100 most-cited PREM articles to examine the critical studies and related trends. METHODS The 100 most cited articles on PREM were gathered from the Web of Science using a combination keyword search approach. The following information was extracted: study design, sample size, topic, number of citations, authorship, country, year of publication, journal title, and dimensions included in these PREM instruments. The VOSviewer software was used to generate graphical bibliometric networks. RESULTS The citation count of the top 100 PREM articles varied from 20 to 775 citations. 21 articles had received a minimum of 100 citations. All the articles were in English, and out of these 45% were from the USA. The cross-sectional study (69%) was the most common study design, and the impact of treatment (44%) was the most frequent topic. The common PREM instruments used were customized PREM questionnaires (16%) and HCAHPS (10%). CONCLUSION This bibliometric research showed that the area of PREM is far from being saturated. The authors have attempted to provide an overview of global PREM research. Future research should focus on studies from underdeveloped and developing countries to develop condition-specific PREM tools. Longitudinal researches among special populations and studies in day-care and outpatient settings are recommended in future.

Abstract
AIM The study aimed to compare long- and short-term frequent attenders' (FAs) perceptions of patient-centredness and to assess the equivalence of the factor structure of patient-centred primary care (PCPC) instrument for long- and short-term FAs. METHODS A cross-sectional survey of long-term (n = 234) and short-term (n = 261) FAs within the primary healthcare of one city in Finland. The data collected in January-July 2020 via 'the 36-item PCPC instrument' were analysed using Pearson's chi-squared test, Mann-Whitney U-test, Cronbach's alpha, and multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA). RESULTS Long-term FAs had worse perceptions of patient-centredness than short-term FAs across all subscales: patients' preferences, physical comfort, coordination of care, continuity and transition, emotional support, access to care, information and education, and family and friends. The MGCFA indicated a good fit for the predicted eight-factor model. CONCLUSIONS Long-term FAs' care needs are currently not being met, indicating the need for considering how the way healthcare services are arranged and care is provided affects prolonged and high care needs. Various dimensions of patient-centredness need to be addressed when developing not only FAs' care but also wider service paths. A distinction should be made between long- and short-term frequent attendance when identifying and addressing FAs' service needs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim was to synthesize evidence on the use of person-centered outcome measures to facilitate integrated palliative care for older people and build a logic model depicting the mechanisms through which person-centered outcome measures support integrated care. DESIGN Mixed methods systematic review using a data-based convergent synthesis design. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Older people aged ≥60 years who are approaching the end of their lives in multiple settings. METHODS The study was underpinned by a conceptual framework of integrated palliative care, which informed the search strategy, data extraction, analysis, and synthesis. A hybrid search strategy was implemented, with database searches (PsycINFO, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and ASSIA) complemented by snowball searches. Qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed by narrative synthesis to summarize and explain the findings. The findings informed a logic model depicting the mechanisms of using person-centered outcome measures to support integrated palliative care. RESULTS Twenty-six studies were included. Three mixed methods studies, 2 qualitative studies, and 21 quantitative studies were included. There was evidence that person-centered outcome measures could support integrated palliative care through informing palliative care policy development (n = 4), facilitating joint working across settings (n = 5), enabling close collaboration of multidisciplinary teams (n = 14), promoting joint education (n = 1), facilitating timing and specialist referral (n = 6), and enhancing patient-centered care (n = 3). CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS This review makes an important, novel, and theoretically informed contribution to the delivery of scalable and sustainable integrated palliative care into the care of older people using person-centered outcome measures. The constructed logic model provides a conceptual framework and practical approach to how person-centered outcome measures support multilevel integration. A future area of research is the development of person-centered outcome measure interventions informed by the logic model to meet clinical needs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) are an important aspect of assessing and improving women's experiences of person-centred care during treatment for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). This scoping review aimed to 1) examine the extent, type, and characteristics of evidence regarding women's OUD treatment experiences, and 2) describe the extent to which PREMs and person-centred care principles are incorporated within research methods. METHODS Following Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), we conducted a scoping review to identify peer-reviewed articles on women's OUD treatment experiences. Data were extracted from 39 included studies and synthesised based on study design, method of assessment/analysis (including use of PREMs), key findings, and the integration of person-centred care principles. RESULTS Analysis of included studies revealed a predominance of qualitative research focused on women's experiences of pharmacological OUD treatment (methadone and/or buprenorphine) in Western countries. Women in these studies reported predominantly negative or mixed experiences of treatment. Few studies used validated PREMs and there was a lack of direct assessment or focus on recognised person-centred care principles. However, common categories of outcomes/findings identified in results across studies broadly aligned with person-centred care principles (e.g., fast access to reliable healthcare, effective treatment by trusted professionals), emphasising their applicability to women's experiences of treatment. CONCLUSIONS Although there has been an increased focus on women's experiences of treatment for OUD in recent years, results highlighted room for improvement regarding the systematic and comprehensive assessment of women's experiences across different contexts. Given the often negative or mixed experiences reported by women, an increased focus on assessing service provision through a person-centred care lens (including utilising PREMs) may allow for service improvements or adaptations targeted towards the needs and experiences of women.

Abstract
No reviews so far have been conducted to define the constructs of patient-experienced quality in healthcare transitions or to identify existing generic measures of patients' experience of the quality within healthcare transitions. Our aim was to identify domains relevant for people experiencing healthcare transitions when evaluating the quality of care they have received, map the comprehensiveness of existing patient-reported experience measures (PREM), and evaluate the PREMs' content validity. The method was guided by the Joanna Briggs Institutes' guidance for scoping reviews. The search was performed on 07 December 2021 and updated 27 May 2024, in the electronic databases Medline (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), and Cinahl (EBSCO). The search identified 20,422 publications, and 190 studies were included for review. We identified 30 PREMs assessing at least one aspect of adults' experience of transitions in healthcare. Summarising the content, we consider a model with two domains, organisational and human-relational, likely to be adequate. However, a more comprehensive analysis and adequate definition of the construct is needed. None of the PREMs were considered content valid.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Patient reported experience measures (PREMs) are tools often utilised in hospitals to support quality improvements and to provide objective feedback on care experiences. Less commonly PREMs can be used to support consumers choices in their hospital care. Little is known about the experience and views of the Australian consumer regarding PREMs nor the considerations these consumers have when they need to make decisions about attending hospital. This study aimed to explore consumer awareness of PREMs, consumer attitudes towards PREMs and the utility of PREMs as a decision-making tool in accessing hospital care. METHODS Qualitative study involving semi-structured interviews conducted over the phone. Participants (n = 40) were recruited from across Australia and purposively sampled according to key characteristics: holding private health insurance, > 30-years of age, may have accessed private hospital care in the past year, variety of educational and cultural backgrounds, and if urban or rural residing. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and analysed thematically. RESULTS Four overarching themes and six subthemes were identified from the data. Major findings were that prior awareness of PREMs was limited; however, many had filled in a PREM either for themselves or for someone they cared for following a hospital stay. Most respondents preferred to listen to experience of self or family/friends or the recommendation of their physician when choosing a hospital to attend. Participants appeared to be more interested in the treating clinician than the hospital with this clinician often dictating the hospital or hospital options. If provided choice in hospital, issues of additional costs, timeliness of treatment and location were important factors. CONCLUSION While PREMs were considered a possible tool to assist in hospital decision-making process, previous hospital experiences, the doctor and knowing up-front cost are an overriding consideration for consumers when choosing their hospital. Consideration to format and presentation of PREMs data is needed to facilitate understanding and allow meaningful comparisons. Future research could examine the considerations of those consumers who primarily access public healthcare facilities and how to improve the utility of PREMs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Improving palliative care for inpatients is urgently needed. Data from patient-reported experience measures (PREM) can assist in identifying areas for focused improvement. This study aimed to describe patient reported experience of care in inpatients with palliative care needs, to inform a baseline understanding of care experience and identify key areas for improvement. METHODS Cross-sectional study design where inpatients with palliative care needs were invited to complete 'consideRATE,' a patient reported experience measure of care, over six months in 2022. Inpatients with palliative care needs receiving care on an oncology, general medicine/renal and general medicine/respiratory ward (n = 3) at an Australian metropolitan hospital were screened for eligibility. Carers could provide proxy responses where inpatients were unable to participate. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse quantitative ratings, whilst free text responses were analysed using integrated thematic analysis. RESULTS One-hundred and twenty participants (108 patients and 12 carers) completed consideRATE. The questions with the highest number of 'very good' responses were attention to symptoms, attention to feelings and attention to what matters most; the questions with the lowest number of 'very good' responses was attention to patients' affairs, what to expect, and the environment of care. Almost half (n = 57, 48%) indicated that attention to patients' affairs 'did not apply' to their inpatient stay. Analysis of 532 free text responses across 8 questions highlighted the importance of feeling supported, feeling informed, feeling heard and navigating the clinical environment. CONCLUSION Enabling inpatients with palliative care needs to provide feedback about their experience of care is one method of ensuring improvements matter to patients. Supporting clinical teams to understand and use these data to make tailored improvements is the next step in this multi-phase research.

Abstract
The International Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies (IPOPI) held its second Global Multi-Stakeholders' Summit, an annual stimulating and forward-thinking meeting uniting experts to anticipate pivotal upcoming challenges and opportunities in the field of primary immunodeficiency (PID). The 2023 summit focused on three key identified discussion points: (i) How can immunoglobulin (Ig) therapy meet future personalized patient needs? (ii) Pandemic preparedness: what's next for public health and potential challenges for the PID community? (iii) Diagnosing PIDs in 2030: what needs to happen to diagnose better and to diagnose more? Clinician-Scientists, patient representatives and other stakeholders explored avenues to improve Ig therapy through mechanistic insights and tailored Ig preparations/products according to patient-specific needs and local exposure to infectious agents, amongst others. Urgency for pandemic preparedness was discussed, as was the threat of shortage of antibiotics and increasing antimicrobial resistance, emphasizing the need for representation of PID patients and other vulnerable populations throughout crisis and care management. Discussion also covered the complexities of PID diagnosis, addressing issues such as global diagnostic disparities, the integration of patient-reported outcome measures, and the potential of artificial intelligence to increase PID diagnosis rates and to enhance diagnostic precision. These proceedings outline the outcomes and recommendations arising from the 2023 IPOPI Global Multi-Stakeholders' Summit, offering valuable insights to inform future strategies in PID management and care. Integral to this initiative is its role in fostering collaborative efforts among stakeholders to prepare for the multiple challenges facing the global PID community.

Abstract
Near Real-Time Feedback (NRTF) on the patient's experience with care, coupled with data relay to providers, can inform quality-of-care improvements, including at the point of care. The objective is to systematically review contemporary literature on the impact of the use of NRTF and data relay to providers on standardized patient experience measures. Six scientific databases and five specialty journals were searched supplemented by snowballing search strategies, according to the registered study protocol. Eligibility included studies in English (2015-2023) assessing the impact of NRTF and data relay on standardized patient-reported experience measures as a primary outcome. Eligibility and quality appraisals were performed by two independent reviewers. An expert former patient (Patient and Family Advisory Council and communication sciences background) helped interpret the results. Eight papers met review eligibility criteria, including three randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and one non-randomized study. Three of these studies involved in-person NRTF prior to data relay (patient-level data for immediate corrective action or aggregated and peer-compared) and led to significantly better results in all or some of the experience measures. In turn, a kiosk-based NRTF achieved no better experience results. The remaining studies were pre-post designs with mixed or neutral results and greater risks of bias. In-person NRTF on the patient experience followed by rapid data relay to their providers, either patient-level or provider-level as peer-compared, can improve the patient experience of care. Reviewed kiosk-based or self-reported approaches combined with data relay were not effective. Further research should determine which approach (e.g. who conducts the in-person NRTF) will provide better, more efficient improvements and under which circumstances.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with fewer socioeconomic and health literacy resources are disadvantaged in their access and use of healthcare, which may give rise to worse experiences with care and thus inequalities in patient experiences. However, only a limited number of studies have examined how socioeconomic and health literacy factors shape inequalities in patients' experiences with cancer care. OBJECTIVE To examine whether patients' experiences with cancer care differ according to their economic status and health literacy. METHODS Secondary analysis of data on 2789 adult patients diagnosed with cancer from the Swiss Cancer Patient Experiences-2 (SCAPE-2) study, a cross-sectional survey conducted in eight hospitals across Switzerland from September 2021 to February 2022. Regression analysis was applied to examine the independent effect of patients' economic status and health literacy on various outcomes of experiences with cancer care, covering eight different dimensions of patient-centred care, controlling for confounding factors. RESULTS Adjusted regression analysis showed that patients with lower economic status reported significantly worse experiences with cancer care in 12 out of 29 specific care experiences, especially in the dimensions of 'respect for patients' preferences' and 'physical comfort' where all items of experiences were associated with economic status. Additionally, lower health literacy was associated with worse patient experiences in 23 specific care experiences. All items in the dimensions of 'respect for patients' preferences', 'physical comfort' and 'emotional support' were associated with health literacy. DISCUSSION This study revealed significant inequalities in experiences with cancer care shaped by the economic status and health literacy of patients across different dimensions of patient-centred care. It is essential to address the needs of more disadvantaged patients who face obstacles in their access and use of the healthcare system, not only to mitigate inequalities in cancer care but also to avoid inequalities in health outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To discuss the opportunities and challenges of implementing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) within advanced practice nursing services in cancer care. METHODS This discussion paper has been informed by an environmental scan of evidence from systematic reviews and primary studies evaluating the use and implementation of PROMs and PREMs. Literature from the contexts of cancer and chronic disease, including nursing and multidisciplinary supportive care literature, has been included. RESULTS Advanced practice nurses are well-positioned to evaluate and respond to PROMs and PREMs data; several studies have highlighted improved patient outcomes concerning quality of life, symptom distress, and functional status within nurse-led services. Nevertheless, the implementation of PROMs and PREMs in cancer care and nurse-led services is variable. Previous studies have highlighted implementation challenges, which can hinder comparability and generalizability of PROMs and PREMs instruments. Advanced practice nurses should consider these challenges, including ways to use standardized PROM instruments. Electronic PROMs, while efficient, may exclude individuals at risk of inequity. Complex, lengthy, and frequent administration of PROMs may also overburden people living with or after cancer, with people affected by cancer expressing preference for flexible use in some studies. Therefore, the involvement of people affected by cancer in planning for PROMs/PREMs implementation may overcome this challenge. Finally, organizational considerations in implementation should address financial investments, including initial costs for technology and training and consideration of the operationalization of PROMs within existing infrastructure for the seamless utilization of PROMs data. CONCLUSION Despite the potential of advanced practice nursing services to enhance patient-reported outcomes and experiences, variability in the implementation of PROMs and PREMs poses challenges. Use of validated measures, electronic or paper-based instruments, and the preferences of people affected by cancer for the use of PROMs and PREMs must be carefully considered in consultation with end users for successful implementation. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE In planning for the implementation of PROMs and PREMs within nurse-led services, implementation risks may be mitigated through establishing clear guidelines for their use, investment in the development of the required infrastructure, user education, and rigorous implementation processes, including patient involvement in PROMs/PREMs selection.

Abstract
The purpose of this review was to summarize the evidence with regard to behavioral and psychosocial assessment of the periodontitis patient, the candidate for implant therapy, and the peri-implantitis patient. Periodontitis has an adverse effect on quality of life and its treatment can lead to significant improvements experienced by the patient. The latter is true for rehabilitation with dental implants, although patients harbor diverse expectations and perceptions of implant therapy, which can often interfere with satisfaction and/or influence long-term success. A thorough behavioral assessment of the candidate for implant therapy is essential, which should include, perceptions, expectations, as well as risk for behavioral disorders. Remedial action is essential to correct misperceptions and any identified risks. Finally, patients have limited awareness of limited ability to identify signs of peri-implantitis. The diagnosis of peri-implantitis can be a cause of significant distress, resentment, and loss of trust to the treatment and the caregivers. Despite documented value in clinical research, currently available instruments assessing patient-reported outcomes have little application in day-to-day clinical practice. Face-to-face patient to doctor open-ended communication remains the most effective way to comprehensively establish the long-term "therapeutic alliance" essential for the long journey for the periodontitis patient.

Abstract
AIM To synthesize the impact of improvement interventions related to care coordination, discharge support and care transitions on patient experience measures. METHOD Systematic review. Searches were completed in six scientific databases, five specialty journals, and through snowballing. Eligibility included studies published in English (2015-2023) focused on improving care coordination, discharge support, or transitional care assessed by standardized patient experience measures as a primary outcome. Two independent reviewers made eligibility decisions and performed quality appraisals. RESULTS Of 1240 papers initially screened, 16 were included. Seven studies focused on care coordination activities, including three randomized controlled trials [RCTs]. These studies used enhanced supports such as improvement coaching or tailoring for vulnerable populations within Patient-Centered Medical Homes or other primary care sites. Intervention effectiveness was mixed or neutral relative to standard or models of care or simpler supports (e.g., improvement tool). Eight studies, including three RCTs, focused on enhanced discharge support, including patient education (e.g., teach back) and telephone follow-up; mixed or neutral results on the patient experience were also found and with more substantive risks of bias. One pragmatic trial on a transitional care intervention, using a navigator support, found significant changes only for the subset of uninsured patients and in one patient experience outcome, and had challenges with implementation fidelity. CONCLUSION Enhanced supports for improving care coordination, discharge education, and post-discharge follow-up had mixed or neutral effectiveness for improving the patient experience with care, compared to standard care or simpler improvement approaches. There is a need to advance the body of evidence on how to improve the patient experience with discharge support and transitional approaches.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-reported outcome and experience measures (PROMs and PREMs, respectively) are evidence-based, standardized questionnaires that can be used to capture patients' perspectives of their health and health care. While substantial investments have been made in the implementation of PROMs and PREMs, their use remains fragmented and limited in many settings. Analysis of multi-level barriers and enablers to the implementation of PROMs and PREMs has been hampered by the lack of use of state-of-the-art implementation science frameworks. This umbrella review aims to consolidate available evidence from existing quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods systematic and scoping reviews covering factors that influence the implementation of PROMs and PREMs in healthcare settings. METHODS An umbrella review of systematic and scoping reviews will be conducted following the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods reviews of studies focusing on the implementation of PROMs and/or PREMs in all healthcare settings will be considered for inclusion. Eight bibliographical databases will be searched. All review steps will be conducted by two reviewers independently. Included reviews will be appraised and data will be extracted in four steps: (1) assessing the methodological quality of reviews using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist; (2) extracting data from included reviews; (3) theory-based coding of barriers and enablers using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) 2.0; and (4) identifying the barriers and enablers best supported by reviews using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation-Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative research (GRADE-CERQual) approach. Findings will be presented in diagrammatic and tabular forms in a manner that aligns with the objective and scope of this umbrella review, along with a narrative summary. DISCUSSION This umbrella review of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods systematic and scoping reviews will inform policymakers, researchers, managers, and clinicians regarding which factors hamper or enable the adoption and sustained use of PROMs and PREMs in healthcare settings, and the level of confidence in the evidence supporting these factors. Abstract
BACKGROUND Palliative care performed a central role in responding to the systemic suffering incurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, few studies have elucidated the inpatient palliative care specialists' experiences and perceptions. OBJECTIVE Systematically review and synthesize the evolving roles and expectations of inpatient palliative care specialists in response to COVID-19. DESIGN A systematic review and meta-synthesis informed by Thomas and Harden's framework and Pozzar et al.'s approach was conducted in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. DATA SOURCES MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and PubMed were systematically searched for articles published between December 2019 and March 2023. We included all peer-reviewed qualitative and mixed-method literature studying the roles and expectations of inpatient palliative care specialists. A mixed-method appraisal tool was used for quality assessment. RESULTS Of 3869 unique articles, 52 were included. Studies represented North American (n = 23), European (n = 16), South American (n = 4), Oceanic (n = 2), Asian (n = 2), West African (n = 1), Middle Eastern (n = 1), and inter-continental settings (n = 3). Most were reported in English (n = 50), conducted in 2020 (n = 28), and focused on the perspectives of inpatient palliative care clinicians (n = 28). Three descriptive themes captured the roles and expectations of inpatient palliative care specialists: shifting foundations, reorienting to relationships, and evolving identity. Two analytical themes were synthesized: palliative care propagates compassion through a healing presence, and palliative care enhances the systemic response to suffering through nimble leadership. CONCLUSION Inpatient palliative care specialists responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by establishing their healing presence and leading with their adaptability. To develop institutionally tailored and collaborative responses to future pandemics, future studies are needed to understand how inpatient palliative care clinicians are recognized and valued within their institutions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several systematic reviews (SRs) assessing the use of telemedicine for musculoskeletal conditions have been published in recent years. However, the landscape of evidence on multiple clinical outcomes remains unclear. OBJECTIVE We aimed to summarize the available evidence from SRs on telemedicine for musculoskeletal disorders. METHODS We conducted an umbrella review of SRs with and without meta-analysis by searching PubMed and EMBASE up to July 25, 2022, for SRs of randomized controlled trials assessing telemedicine. We collected any kind of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), patient-reported experience measures (PREMs), and objective measures, including direct and indirect costs. We assessed the methodological quality with the AMSTAR 2 tool (A Measurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews 2). Findings were reported qualitatively. RESULTS Overall, 35 SRs published between 2015 and 2022 were included. Most reviews (n=24, 69%) were rated as critically low quality by AMSTAR 2. The majority of reviews assessed "telerehabilitation" (n=29) in patients with osteoarthritis (n=13) using PROMs (n=142 outcomes mapped with n=60 meta-analyses). A substantive body of evidence from meta-analyses found telemedicine to be beneficial or equal in terms of PROMs compared to conventional care (n=57 meta-analyses). Meta-analyses showed no differences between groups in PREMs (n=4), while objectives measures (ie, "physical function") were mainly in favor of telemedicine or showed no difference (9/13). All SRs showed notably lower costs for telemedicine compared to in-person visits. CONCLUSIONS Telemedicine can provide more accessible health care with noninferior results for various clinical outcomes in comparison with conventional care. The assessment of telemedicine is largely represented by PROMs, with some gaps for PREMs, objective measures, and costs. TRIAL REGISTRATION PROSPERO CRD42022347366; https://osf.io/pxedm/.

Abstract
Patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) provide assessments of patients' subjective experiences and perceptions regarding their interactions with the healthcare system and its services. We present a cross-sectional study of the patient perception and evolution of COVID-19 cases performed at Ovidius Clinical Hospital in Romania during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study objective is to explore the utility and the utilization of PREMs in monitoring patient perceptions of the supplementary protective actions. During the pandemic, the hospital implemented early supplementary protective actions, like PCR and lung CT, to all surgically admitted patients in the hospital alongside government-recommended actions. At the same time, functional PREMs were used to evaluate patient perceptions regarding these supplementary actions. The research was carried out for 19 months between June 2020 and December 2021. The findings revealed that opinions about the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic, the personal risk of infection, and the perception of protective actions in the hospital were not correlated. Conclusions: The patients' appreciation of the COVID-19 protective actions taken by the hospital is related more to the general perceptions induced by the number of cases presented in the mass media and less by perceptions of the gravity of the problem or the risk of infection. In a hospital, the primary mission of patient safety is essential, and it must be fulfilled even if the patients are not sure or fully convinced that this is for their benefit. For management decisions and monitoring, using PREMs can be essential in a situation when general evidence is not conclusive.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Since the implementation of value-based healthcare, there has been a growing emphasis on utilizing patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) to enhance the quality of care. However, the current PREMs are primarily generic and static, whereas healthcare is constantly evolving and encompasses a wide variety of aspects that impact care quality. To continuously improve care requires a dynamic PREM. The aim of this study was to propose an item bank for the establishment of a dynamic and care-specific patient-reported evaluation. METHODS In co-creation with patients, a mixed methods study was conducted involving: (1) an explorative review of the literature, (2) a focus group analysis with (ex-)patients, (3) qualitative analyses to formulate themes, and (4) a quantitative selection of items by patients and experts through prioritization. RESULTS Eight existing PREMs were evaluated. After removing duplicates, 141 items were identified. Through qualitative analyses of the focus group in which the patient journey was discussed, eight themes were formulated: "Organization of healthcare," "Competence of healthcare professionals," "Communication," "Information & services," "Patient empowerment," "Continuity & informal care," "Environment," and "Technology." Seven patients and eleven professionals were asked to prioritize what they considered the most important items. From this, an item bank with 76 items was proposed. CONCLUSION In collaboration with patients and healthcare professionals, we have proposed a PREM-item bank to evaluate the experiences of patients' receiving cancer care in an outpatient clinic. This item bank is the first step to dynamically assess the quality of cancer care provided in an outpatient setting.

Abstract
Objective Patient experience significantly impacts healthcare quality, outcomes, resource utilisation and treatment adherence. Digital technologies offer promising approaches for capturing real-time, multi-faceted patient experiences. This scoping review investigated how digital technologies are used to capture patient experience during healthcare encounters and their potential to improve health service delivery and care. Methods A scoping review was conducted to determine associations between patients' use of digital technology and subsequent outcomes. Four electronic databases were searched using six combination search terms in titles and/or abstracts published between 2016 and 2022. Inclusion criteria focused on studies where patients were primary users of digital technology, reporting on their experience during care. Studies had to report on at least one outcome: health service delivery, quality of care or patient experience. Screening, data extraction and analysis were performed systematically. Results Of the 377 studies retrieved, 20 were included. Most studies incorporated aspects allowing patients to share experiences with digital technologies. Eighty percent (n = 16) of studies reported improvements in patient experiences, 75% (n = 15) enhancements in service delivery aspects and 50% (n = 10) indicated improved quality of care associated with the use of digital technologies. Real-time journaling and narrative methods alongside treatment were linked to improved communication, healthcare efficiencies and patient agency. Technologies facilitating bidirectional communication were particularly associated with positive effects on patients' sense of agency. Conclusion Digital technologies facilitating documentation of patient experiences demonstrate potential in enhancing care quality through increased patient voice, collaboration and agency. Technologies designed to map and evaluate patients' healthcare experiences represent a promising approach to improving healthcare outcomes, service delivery and overall patient experience. Further research is needed to establish standardised methodologies and evaluate long-term impacts across diverse populations. Integrating digital narrative medicine principles may offer valuable insights for future interventions aimed at capturing and enhancing patient experiences in healthcare.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Globally there are high numbers of patients with palliative care needs receiving care in hospitals. Patient reported experience measures (PREMs) provide useful data to guide improvement work. How to implement PREMs within palliative care populations is unclear. AIM To explore the perspectives of inpatients with palliative care needs, their family members, and the clinical team regarding the use of a generic PREM as compared with a PREM designed for people with palliative care needs and related implementation factors. DESIGN A qualitative study was undertaken using semi-structured interviews and focus groups and integrated thematic analysis. SETTING/PARTICIPANTS Inpatients with palliative care needs, their family members, and clinical team members were recruited from three wards in an Australian metropolitan hospital. RESULTS Twenty-seven interviews and three focus groups were conducted. Six themes emerged: (1) PREMs for people with palliative care needs ought to be tailored to the needs of this population; (2) PREMs should appraise whether the needs of families have been met in addition to those of patients; (3) PREMs for inpatients with palliative care needs ought to be easy to use, brief and incorporate space for free text alongside each question; (4) Implementation of PREMs for people with palliative care needs ought to consider who administers these, when and how often; (5) PREM data need to be specific enough to inform process change and/or care provision; (6) Patients and families require meaningful feedback to encourage PREM completion. CONCLUSIONS This study provides practical guidance for PREM selection and implementation to inform improvements to care for inpatients with palliative care needs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Hearing loss is a common chronic health condition and adversely affects communication and social function resulting in loneliness, social isolation and depression. We know little about the patient experience of living with hearing loss and their views on the quality of the audiology service. In this study, we will develop and validate the first patient-reported experience measure (PREM) to understand patients' experiences of living with hearing loss and their healthcare interactions with audiology services. METHODS AND ANALYSIS We will develop the PREM in three phases: (1) development of PREM prototype (items/statements) derived from previous qualitative work and narrative review, (2) cognitive interview testing of the PREM prototype using a 'think aloud' technique to examine the acceptability and comprehensibility of the tool and refine accordingly and (3) psychometric testing of the modified PREM with 300 participants to assess the reliability and validity of the tool using Rasch analyses with sequential item reduction. Eligible participants will be young people and adults aged 16 years and over who have hearing loss. Participants will be recruited from three clinical sites located in England (Bath, Bristol) and Scotland (Tayside) and non-clinical settings (eg, lip-reading classes, residential care settings, national charity links, social media). ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The study was approved by the West of Scotland Research Ethics Service (approval date: 6 May 2022; ref: 22/WS/0057) and the Health Research Authority and Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) Approval (approval date: 14 June 2022; IRAS project ID: 308816). Findings will be shared with our patient and public involvement groups, academics, audiology communities and services and local commissioners via publications and presentations. The PREM will be made available to clinicians and researchers without charge.

Abstract
Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common, preventable, and treatable disease. The first PREM (patient-reported outcome measure)-type questionnaire that has been dedicated to assess the experience of care in COPD is the PREM-C9. Aim: The aim of this study was to create a Polish version of the PREM-C9 and determine its psychometric characteristics. Methods: The validation procedure involved forward and back translation. We included 42 patients with COPD. The psychometric properties were assessed using Cronbach's alpha, Bartlett's test, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test, and Spearman's correlation coefficient. The validity of the questionnaire was assessed using a principal component analysis for the extracted principal components. The validity of the factor analysis was demonstrated using Bartlett's sphericity test and the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test. A factor analysis was performed using the Oblimin and Varimax rotation. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Results: The Polish version of the analyzed questionnaire met all the validation criteria: face, translation, psychometric, functional, and reconstruction equivalence. Spearman's correlation results between the Polish PREM-C9 and CAT were as follows: rho = 0.44, p = 0.003539; HADS-Anxiety: rho = 0.370864, p = 0.015612; and HADS-Depression: rho = 0.387405, p = 0.011253. Conclusions: The developed Polish PREM-C9 questionnaire is a reliable and valid tool that assesses Polish COPD patients' experiences of their disease and the care they receive.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-Reported Outcomes or Experience Measures (PROMS / PREMS) are routinely used in clinical studies to assess participants' views and experiences of trial interventions and related quality of life. Purely quantitative approaches lack the necessary detail and flexibility to understand the real-world impact of study interventions on participants, according to their own priorities. Conversely, purely qualitative assessments are time consuming and usually restricted to a small, possibly unrepresentative, sub-sample. This paper, which reports a pilot study within a randomised controlled trial of induction of labour, reports the feasibility, and acceptability of the Participant-Generated Experience and Satisfaction (PaGES) Index, a new mixed qualitative / quantitative PREM tool. METHODS The single-sheet PaGES Index was completed by hypertensive pregnant women in two hospitals in Nagpur, India before and after taking part in the 'Misoprostol or Oxytocin for Labour Induction' (MOLI) randomised controlled trial. Participants recorded aspects of the impending birth they considered most important, and then ranked them. After the birth, participants completed the PaGES Index again, this time also scoring their satisfaction with each item. Forms were completed on paper in the local language or in English, supported by Research Assistants. Following translation (when needed), responses were uploaded to a REDCap database, coded in Excel and analysed thematically. A formal qualitative evaluation (qMOLI) was also conducted to obtain stakeholder perspectives of the PaGES Index and the wider trial. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants, and focus groups with researchers and clinicians. Data were managed using NVivo 12 software and analysed using the framework approach. RESULTS Participants and researchers found the PaGES Index easy to complete and administer; mothers valued the opportunity to speak about their experience. Qualitative analysis of the initial 68 PaGES Index responses identified areas of commonality and difference among participants and also when comparing antenatal and postnatal responses. Theme citations and associated comments scores were fairly stable before and after the birth. The qMOLI phase, comprising 53 one-to-one interviews with participants and eight focus groups involving 83 researchers and clinicians, provided support that the PaGES Index was an acceptable and even helpful means of capturing participant perspectives. CONCLUSIONS Subjective participant experiences are an important aspect of clinical trials. The PaGES Index was found to be a feasible and acceptable measure that unites qualitative research's explanatory power with the comparative power of quantitative designs. It also offers the opportunity to conduct a before-and-after evaluation, allowing researchers to examine the expectations and actual experiences of all clinical trial participants, not just a small sub-sample. This study also shows that, with appropriate research assistant input, the PaGES Index can be used in different languages by participants with varying literacy levels. Abstract
Patient-centered care is recognized as a key element in recent healthcare management strategies. However, the integrated collection of patient feedback capturing the entire journey of patients with complex medical conditions remains understudied. Herein, we aimed to describe the development of an instrument prototype for the collection of PROMs and PREMs that would encompass a whole patient journey at a single time point. We further describe the process of its integration into a hospital's information system (HIS) and the results of a pilot feasibility study in adult patients with kidney and hematological diseases. We developed an instrument consisting of original PREM and generic EQ-5D-5L questionnaires. E-questionnaires were handled with REDCap software (version 12.5.14) and integrated into the HIS. Patients refusing to use e-questionnaires (48%) were offered paper administration and were older (64 vs. 50 years). The overall response rate for e-questionnaires was 57.1% with a median completion time of 2.0 and 3.7 min for PROM and PREM, respectively. Psychological and social services and primary care setting (diagnosis establishment and involvement in continuous care) were identified as most problematic. The majority of PREM dimensions encompassing different levels of care significantly correlated with PROM responses. Our data indicate the feasibility and potential relevance of the proposed approach, although wider-scale studies in diverse settings are needed.

Abstract
Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are valuable for shared decision making and research. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are questionnaires used to measure PROs, such as health-related quality of life (HRQL). Although core outcome sets for trials and clinical practice have been developed separately, they, as well as other initiatives, recommend different PROs and PROMs. In research and clinical practice, different PROMs are used (some generic, some disease-specific), which measure many different things. This is a threat to the validity of research and clinical findings in the field of diabetes. In this narrative review, we aim to provide recommendations for the selection of relevant PROs and psychometrically sound PROMs for people with diabetes for use in clinical practice and research. Based on a general conceptual framework of PROs, we suggest that relevant PROs to measure in people with diabetes are: disease-specific symptoms (e.g. worries about hypoglycaemia and diabetes distress), general symptoms (e.g. fatigue and depression), functional status, general health perceptions and overall quality of life. Generic PROMs such as the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), WHO Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0), or Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) measures could be considered to measure commonly relevant PROs, supplemented with disease-specific PROMs where needed. However, none of the existing diabetes-specific PROM scales has been sufficiently validated, although the Diabetes Symptom Self-Care Inventory (DSSCI) for measuring diabetes-specific symptoms and the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS) and Problem Areas in Diabetes (PAID) for measuring distress showed sufficient content validity. Standardisation and use of relevant PROs and psychometrically sound PROMs can help inform people with diabetes about the expected course of disease and treatment, for shared decision making, to monitor outcomes and to improve healthcare. We recommend further validation studies of diabetes-specific PROMs that have sufficient content validity for measuring disease-specific symptoms and consider generic item banks developed based on item response theory for measuring commonly relevant PROs.

Abstract
We aimed to explore the feasibility and potential relevance of integrated electronic collection of patient-reported outcome and experience measures (PROM and PREM) in children with special healthcare needs (CSHCN) by using the example of children with kidney and hematological diseases. We performed a cross-sectional, single-center study of children <18 years of age. Children (≥10 years) and their parents received Generic PedsQL Core Scale 4.0 and custom PREM surveys to their email addresses via the REDCap platform, and the results were integrated into the hospital's electronic health records system. A total of 192 patients (98 with kidney diseases and 94 with hematological diseases) were enrolled. The overall response rate was 51%, and the median time for completion of each proxy questionnaire was approximately three minutes. The lowest PROM scores were observed in the emotional and school functioning dimensions. More favorable experiences in the diagnosis establishment process were associated with higher scores in physical, social, school functioning, and total PROM scores. A better evaluation of the hospital's environment was associated with higher social functioning, while better information provision correlated with higher physical functioning and total PROM scores. Our data indicates that integrated electronic collection of PROMs and PREMs in the population of CSHCN is feasible, but efforts to increase the response rate are needed. The associations between PROMs and PREMs suggest that future studies exploring targeted interventions at the healthcare service level to improve subjective patient outcomes are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The global need for focused improvements in palliative care within the acute hospital setting is well noted. A large volume of evidence exists detailing what hospitalised patients with palliative care needs and their families note as important for high quality care. Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) are one mechanism that hospitals could use to inform improvement work. To date there has not been a review of PREMs available for hospitalised patients with palliative care needs and/or their family, nor how they align with noted priorities for high quality care. AIM To identify and describe PREMs designed for hospitalised patients with palliative care needs and their families; and their alignment with patient and family identified domains for high quality care. DESIGN A systematic review. DATA SOURCES A systematic search of CINAHL, Medline and PsycInfo was conducted up to September 23, 2022 and supplemented by handsearching article reference lists and internet searches. PREMs written in English and designed for patients with palliative care needs in acute hospitals were eligible for inclusion. Included PREMs were described by: summarising key characteristics; and mapping their items to domains noted to be important to hospitalised patients with palliative care needs and their families informed by outcomes from a published study completed in 2021. Evidence for psychometric properties were reviewed. RESULTS Forty-four PREMs with 827 items were included. Items per PREM varied from 2 to 85 (median 25, IQR 13-42). Two-thirds (n = 534, 65%) of the items were designed for families and a third (n = 283, 34%) for hospitalised patients, and very few (n = 10, 1%) for both. Sixty-six percent of items measured person-centred care, 30% expert care and 4% environmental aspects of care. Available PREMs address between 1 and 11 of the 14 domains of importance for quality palliative care. PREMs had a median of 38% (IQR 25.4-56.3) of items >Grade 8 measured by the Flesch-Kincaid readability test, with Grade 8 or lower recommended to ensure health information is as accessible as possible across the population. CONCLUSIONS Whilst 44 PREMs are available for hospitalised patients with palliative care needs or their families, a varied number of items are available for some domains of care provision that are important, compared to others. Few are suitable for people with lower levels of literacy or limited cognitive capacity due to illness.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study examined the factors that influence the 'Overall Satisfaction' and 'Intention to Recommend' of medical institutions used using the Korea Medical Service Experience Survey (2019-2021). DATA SOURCES This study used the data of Medical Service Experience Survey in Korea. The data collected for data analysis were from 2019 to 2021 (Medical service period: 2018.07.01. ~ 2021.06.30). STUDY DESIGN The 2019 Medical Service Experience Survey was conducted from July 8 to September 20, 2019, and a total of 12,507 people (Medical service period: 2018.07.01. ~ 2019.06.30) were collected. The 2020 survey was conducted from July 13 to October 9, 2020, and a total of 12,133 people (Medical service period: 2019.07.01 ~ 2020.06.30.) were collected. The 2021 survey was conducted from July 19 to September 17, 2021), and a total of 13,547 people were collected (Medical service period: 2020.07.01. ~ 2021.06.30). Overall satisfaction and recommendation intentions for medical institutions consist of a Likert 5-point scale. At this time, the Top-box rating model used in the United States was applied. DATA COLLECTIONS/EXTRACTION METHODS In this study, only those who used inpatient services (15 years of age or older) were included because they spent a long time in a medical institution and had an intensive experience, and a total of 1,105 subjects were included in the analysis. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Self-rated health and the type of bed influenced overall satisfaction with medical institutions. In addition, the type of economic activity, living area, self-rated health, the type of bed, and the type of nursing service affected the intention to recommend. And it was confirmed that overall satisfaction with medical institutions and intention to recommend them were higher in the 2021 survey than in 2019. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that government policy on resources and systems is important. Through the case of Korea, it was found that the policy of reducing multi-person beds and expansion of integrated nursing service had a significant impact on patients' experience of using medical institutions and improving the quality of care.
