Abstract
Objective: The objective of the study was to establish an AI-driven decision support system by identifying the most important features in the severity of disease for Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with Mechanical Ventilation (MV) requirement, ICU, and InterMediate Care Unit (IMCU) admission for hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in South Florida. The features implicated in the risk factors identified by the model interpretability can be used to forecast treatment plans faster before critical conditions exacerbate. Methods: We analyzed eHR data from 5371 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 from South Florida Memorial Healthcare Systems admitted between March 2020 and January 2021 to predict the need for ICU with MV, ICU, and IMCU admission. A Random Forest classifier was trained on patients' data augmented by SMOTE, collected at hospital admission. We then compared the importance of features utilizing different model interpretability analyses, such as SHAP, MDI, and Permutation Importance. Results: The models for ICU with MV, ICU, and IMCU admission identified the following factors overlapping as the most important predictors among the three outcomes: age, race, sex, BMI, diarrhea, diabetes, hypertension, early stages of kidney disease, and pneumonia. It was observed that individuals over 65 years ('older adults'), males, current smokers, and BMI classified as 'overweight' and 'obese' were at greater risk of severity of illness. The severity was intensified by the co-occurrence of two interacting features (e.g., diarrhea and diabetes). Conclusions: The top features identified by the models' interpretability were from the 'sociodemographic characteristics', 'pre-hospital comorbidities', and 'medications' categories. However, 'pre-hospital comorbidities' played a vital role in different critical conditions. In addition to individual feature importance, the feature interactions also provide crucial information for predicting the most likely outcome of patients' conditions when urgent treatment plans are needed during the surge of patients during the pandemic.

Abstract
Radiological examinations such as chest X-rays (CXR) play a crucial role in the early diagnosis and determining disease severity in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Various CXR scoring systems have been developed to quantitively assess lung abnormalities in COVID-19 patients, including CXR modified radiographic assessment of lung edema (mRALE). The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between mRALE scores and clinical outcome (mortality), as well as to identify the correlation between mRALE score and the severity of hypoxia (PaO2/FiO2 ratio). A retrospective cohort study was conducted among hospitalized COVID-19 patients at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital Surabaya, Indonesia, from February to April 2022. All CXR data at initial admission were scored using the mRALE scoring system, and the clinical outcomes at the end of hospitalization were recorded. Of the total 178 COVID-19 patients, 62.9% survived after completing the treatment. Patients within non-survived had significantly higher quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA) score (p<0.001), lower PaO2/FiO2 ratio (p=0.004), and higher blood urea nitrogen (p<0.001), serum creatinine (p<0.008) and serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (p=0.001) levels. There was a significant relationship between mRALE score and clinical outcome (survived vs deceased) (p=0.024; contingency coefficient of 0.184); and mRALE score of ≥2.5 served as a risk factor for mortality among COVID-19 patients (relative risk of 1.624). There was a significant negative correlation between the mRALE score and PaO2/FiO2 ratio based on the Spearman correlation test (r=-0.346; p<0.001). The findings highlight that the initial mRALE score may serve as an independent predictor of mortality among hospitalized COVID-19 patients as well as proves its potential prognostic role in the management of COVID-19.

Abstract
RATIONALE Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is a common autoimmune disease. However, its presentation and management in the context of COVID-19 are unclear, and COVID-19-triggered HT, along with myopathy and persistent creatine kinase (CK) levels, have not been previously reported. Moreover, no literature review is currently available on HT in the context of COVID-19. This study is a case report and systematic review of the literature. PATIENT CONCERNS A 33-year-old man was admitted with acute-onset myalgia, anosmia, loss of taste, fever, and upper respiratory tract symptoms. DIAGNOSES He was diagnosed with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during hospitalization and had abnormal CK levels. The elevated CK level persisted even after the resolution of COVID-19. After excluding myopathies and cardiac factors, HT was diagnosed. INTERVENTIONS CK levels did not decrease appreciably until 14 d after levothyroxine administration. OUTCOMES The patient was discharged from the hospital in good health. In the systematic literature review, 7 case reports on COVID-19-associated HT were observed, although no incidence of associated myopathy or persistent elevation of CK was noted. LESSONS This case report highlights the potential link between COVID-19 and autoimmune thyroid diseases. In particular, this study underscores the significance of recognizing new-onset autoimmune thyroid disease in COVID-19-positive patients with elevated CK levels that cannot be attributed to other factors. This systematic review offers additional perspectives for diagnosing and managing HT in COVID-19 settings. Overall, the findings of this study could have important clinical implications for the care of COVID-19 patients, as early identification and treatment of autoimmune thyroid disease could help prevent long-term complications. Additional research is essential to elucidate the fundamental correlations between COVID-19 and HT and assess the effectiveness of therapeutic approaches for autoimmune thyroid conditions related to COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES It is known that COVID-19 has multisystemic effects. However, its early effects on muscle tissue have not been clearly elucidated. The aim of this study is to investigate early changes in the pectoral muscle in patients with COVID-19 infection. MATERIALS AND METHODS The pectoral muscle areas (PMA) and pectoral muscle index (PMI) of 139 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were measured from chest CTs taken at the time of the first diagnosis and within 6 months after the diagnosis. The effect of the infection on the muscle area was investigated by evaluating whether there was a change between the two measurements. Lung involvement of the infection in the first CT was scored with the CT severity score (CT-SS). In addition, the effects of patients' clinics, CT-SS, length of hospital stay, and intubation history on changes in the muscle area were investigated. RESULTS When the PMA and PMI values were compared, there was a statistically significant decrease in the values in the control CT group compared to the first diagnosis CT group. The difference was found higher in intubated patients. CT-SS was associated with a decrease in PMI. CONCLUSION COVID-19 is one of the causes of acute sarcopenia. Pectoralis muscle is part of the skeletal muscle, and there may be a decrease in the muscle area in the early period of the disease.

Abstract
Introduction The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic has created substantial health and economic burdens in the US and worldwide. As new variants continuously emerge, predicting critical clinical events in the context of relevant individual risks is a promising option for reducing the overall burden of COVID-19. This study aims to train an AI-driven decision support system that helps build a model to understand the most important features that predict the "mortality" of patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of "5,371" patients hospitalized for COVID-19-related symptoms from the South Florida Memorial Health Care System between March 14th, 2020, and January 16th, 2021. A data set comprising patients' sociodemographic characteristics, pre-existing health information, and medication was analyzed. We trained Random Forest classifier to predict "mortality" for patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Results Based on the interpretability of the model, age emerged as the primary predictor of "mortality", followed by diarrhea, diabetes, hypertension, BMI, early stages of kidney disease, smoking status, sex, pneumonia, and race in descending order of importance. Notably, individuals aged over 65 years (referred to as "older adults"), males, Whites, Hispanics, and current smokers were identified as being at higher risk of death. Additionally, BMI, specifically in the overweight and obese categories, significantly predicted "mortality". These findings indicated that the model effectively learned from various categories, such as patients' sociodemographic characteristics, pre-hospital comorbidities, and medications, with a predominant focus on characterizing pre-hospital comorbidities. Consequently, the model demonstrated the ability to predict "mortality" with transparency and reliability. Conclusion AI can potentially provide healthcare workers with the ability to stratify patients and streamline optimal care solutions when time is of the essence and resources are limited. This work sets the platform for future work that forecasts patient responses to treatments at various levels of disease severity and assesses health disparities and patient conditions that promote improved health care in a broader context. This study contributed to one of the first predictive analyses applying AI/ML techniques to COVID-19 data using a vast sample from South Florida.

Abstract
A large amount of published research points to the interesting concept (hypothesis) that magnesium (Mg) status may have relevance for the outcome of COVID-19 and that Mg could be protective during the COVID disease course. As an essential element, Mg plays basic biochemical, cellular, and physiological roles required for cardiovascular, immunological, respiratory, and neurological functions. Both low serum and dietary Mg have been associated with the severity of COVID-19 outcomes, including mortality; both are also associated with COVID-19 risk factors such as older age, obesity, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and asthma. In addition, populations with high rates of COVID-19 mortality and hospitalization tend to consume diets high in modern processed foods, which are generally low in Mg. In this review, we review the research to describe and consider the possible impact of Mg and Mg status on COVID-19 showing that (1) serum Mg between 2.19 and 2.26 mg/dL and dietary Mg intakes > 329 mg/day could be protective during the disease course and (2) inhaled Mg may improve oxygenation of hypoxic COVID-19 patients. In spite of such promise, oral Mg for COVID-19 has thus far been studied only in combination with other nutrients. Mg deficiency is involved in the occurrence and aggravation of neuropsychiatric complications of COVID-19, including memory loss, cognition, loss of taste and smell, ataxia, confusion, dizziness, and headache. Potential of zinc and/or Mg as useful for increasing drug therapy effectiveness or reducing adverse effect of anti-COVID-19 drugs is reviewed. Oral Mg trials of patients with COVID-19 are warranted.

Abstract
SARS-CoV-2, the etiological cause of the COVID-19 pandemic, can cause severe illness in certain at-risk populations, including people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). Nevertheless, several studies indicated that pwCF do not have higher risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection nor do they demonstrate worse clinical outcomes than those of the general population. Recent in vitro studies indicate cellular and molecular processes to be significant drivers in pwCF lower infection rates and milder symptoms than expected in cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection. These range from cytokine releases to biochemical alterations leading to morphological rearrangements inside the cells associated with CFTR impairment. Based on available data, the reported low incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection among pwCF is likely a result of several variables linked to CFTR dysfunction, such as thick mucus, IL-6 reduction, altered ACE2 and TMPRSS2 processing and/or functioning, defective anions exchange, and autophagosome formation. An extensive analysis of the relation between SARS-CoV-2 infection and pwCF is essential to elucidate the mechanisms involved in this lower-than-expected infection impact and to possibly suggest potential new antiviral strategies.

Abstract
Background and objective The aim of this study is to systematically analyze and summarize the implications of COVID-19 on the digestive system by quantitatively evaluating the prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, anorexia. reported in COVID-19 cases. We simultaneously investigated other variables to determine the association of such symptoms in COVID-19 patients which can potentially influence the disease prognosis and outcome. This systematic review presents an updated literature on the issue as it requires more scientific discussion in order to better inform the medical community and authorities so that appropriate measures can be taken to control the virus outbreak. Methods MEDLINE database was searched to identify relevant articles. Data was analyzed and synthesized from the 16 eligible studies which exclusively reported GI symptoms in COVID-19 patients along with the disease prognosis. A meta-analysis of studies having adequate information regarding the prevalence of specific GI symptoms in association with other relevant independent variables was performed. Results From the search strategy, we identified 16 articles which fit our eligibility criteria comprising of 10 cross-sectional studies, 2 cohort study, 1 RCT and 3 observational studies. From these pooled studies, 6 articles exclusively talked about COVID-19 patients in which GI symptoms were reported and adequately discussed. In a total of 3646 patients, GI symptoms were documented in (16.2%-10.1%) patients. The most prevalent GI symptom was diarrhea (47%) but the most common clinical manifestation reported was fever (77.4%). Among the adult patients, hypertension (11.6%) was the most frequently reported comorbidity. Presence of viral RNA in stool sample was noted in 16.7% patients with GI symptom. In patients who complained of having GI symptoms, an abnormal liver function was largely observed, with an elevated ALT level in (10.9%) and an elevated AST in (8.8%) of the patients. Evidence of vertical transmission (14.2%) was reported in one study which highlights the extent and mode of viral transmission. It was observed that a great majority of the patients in the 6 studies reporting specifically on patients with GI symptoms were on antiviral therapy (68.6%) as the standard disease management protocol but the eventual disease outcome as in this case died (8.4%), discharged (45.6%) was not linked to just one therapeutic factor but other indicators of disease severity such as positive chest CT findings (87.82%) have led to a poor disease prognosis which was noted in (28.9%) severe patients with GI symptoms compared to (71.1%) non-severe COVID-19 patients with GI symptom. Conclusion Presence of GI symptoms in COVID-19 patients has shown to have a positive association with the poor disease prognosis likely as a result of direct viral toxicity. It is important for the physicians to recognize digestive symptoms as an important characteristic in COVID-19 patients. Hence, precise and targeted documentation of GI symptoms and viral stool sample investigations should be performed in order to understand the rapidly evolving disease symptomology.

Abstract
Background A global pandemic has recently been observed due to the new coronavirus disease, caused by SARS-CoV-2. Since there are currently no antiviral medicines to combat the highly contagious and lethal COVID-19 infection, identifying natural sources that can either be viricidal or boost the immune system and aid in the fight against the disease can be an essential therapeutic support. Methods This review was conducted based on published papers related to the herbal therapy of COVID-19 by search on databases including PubMed and Scopus with herbal, COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, and therapy keywords. Results To combat this condition, people may benefit from the therapeutic properties of medicinal plants, such as increasing their immune system or providing an antiviral impact. As a result, SARS-CoV-2 infection death rates can be reduced. Various traditional medicinal plants and their bioactive components, such as COVID-19, are summarized in this article to assist in gathering and debating techniques for combating microbial diseases in general and boosting our immune system in particular. Conclusion The immune system benefits from natural products and many of these play a role in activating antibody creation, maturation of immune cells, and stimulation of innate and adaptive immune responses. The lack of particular antivirals for SARS-CoV-2 means that apitherapy might be a viable option for reducing the hazards associated with COVID-19 in the absence of specific antivirals.

Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 is a single-stranded RNA virus that belongs to the group of seven coronaviruses that affect humans, and its infection causes the COVID-19 disease. The association between the COVID-19 condition and risk factors of neurological manifestations is unclear to date. This review aims to update the main neurological manifestations associated with SARS-CoV-2 disease. First, we present the hypothesis of the neuroinvasion mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2. Then, we discuss the possible symptoms related to patients with COVID-19 infection in the central and peripheral nervous systems, followed by the perspectives of diagnosis and treatment of possible neurological manifesta-tions. The hypothesis of the neuroinvasion mechanism includes direct routes, as the virus crosses the blood-brain barrier or the ACE2 receptor pathway role, and indirect pathways, such as malfunctions of the immune system and vascular system dysregulation. Various studies report COVID-19 consequences, such as neuroanatomic alterations and cognitive impairment, besides peripheral condi-tions, such as anosmia, ageusia, and Guillain Barré Syndrome. However, the het-erogeneity of the studies about neurologic damage in patients after COVID-19 infection precludes any generalization of current findings. Finally, new studies are necessary to understand the adequate diagnosis, therapeutic method of early treatment, and risk group of patients for neurological manifestations of COVID-19 post-infection.

Abstract
PURPOSE Hyponatremia occurs in about 30% of patients with pneumonia, including those with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection. Hyponatremia predicts a worse outcome in several pathologic conditions and in COVID-19 has been associated with a higher risk of non-invasive ventilation, ICU transfer and death. The main objective of this study was to determine whether early hyponatremia is also a predictor of long-term sequelae at follow-up. METHODS In this observational study, we collected 6-month follow-up data from 189 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients previously admitted to a University Hospital. About 25% of the patients (n = 47) had hyponatremia at the time of hospital admission. RESULTS Serum [Na+] was significantly increased in the whole group of 189 patients at 6 months, compared to the value at hospital admission (141.4 ± 2.2 vs 137 ± 3.5 mEq/L, p < 0.001). In addition, IL-6 levels decreased and the PaO2/FiO2 increased. Accordingly, pulmonary involvement, evaluated at the chest X-ray by the RALE score, decreased. However, in patients with hyponatremia at hospital admission, higher levels of LDH, fibrinogen, troponin T and NT-ProBNP were detected at follow-up, compared to patients with normonatremia at admission. In addition, hyponatremia at admission was associated with worse echocardiography parameters related to right ventricular function, together with a higher RALE score. CONCLUSION These results suggest that early hyponatremia in COVID-19 patients is associated with the presence of laboratory and imaging parameters indicating a greater pulmonary and right-sided heart involvement at follow-up.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES It is known that COVID-19 has multisystemic effects. However, its early effects on muscle tissue have not been clearly elucidated. The aim of this study is to investigate early changes in the pectoral muscle in patients with COVID-19 infection. MATERIALS AND METHODS The pectoral muscle areas (PMA) and pectoral muscle index (PMI) of 139 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were measured from chest CTs taken at the time of the first diagnosis and within 6 months after the diagnosis. The effect of the infection on the muscle area was investigated by evaluating whether there was a change between the two measurements. Lung involvement of the infection in the first CT was scored with the CT severity score (CT-SS). In addition, the effects of patients' clinics, CT-SS, length of hospital stay, and intubation history on changes in the muscle area were investigated. RESULTS When the PMA and PMI values were compared, there was a statistically significant decrease in the values in the control CT group compared to the first diagnosis CT group. The difference was found higher in intubated patients. CT-SS was associated with a decrease in PMI.COVID-19 is one of the causes of acute sarcopenia. Pectoralis muscle is part of the skeletal muscle, and there may be a decrease in the muscle area in the early period of the disease.

Abstract
Genetic optimization of Nucleic Acid immunogens is important for potentially improving their immune potency. A COVID-19 DNA vaccine is in phase III clinical trial which is based on a promising highly developable technology platform. Here, we show optimization in mice generating a pGX-9501 DNA vaccine encoding full-length spike protein, which results in induction of potent humoral and cellular immune responses, including neutralizing antibodies, that block hACE2-RBD binding of live CoV2 virus in vitro. Optimization resulted in improved induction of cellular immunity by pGX-9501 as demonstrated by increased IFN-γ expression in both CD8+ and CD4 + T cells and this was associated with more robust antiviral CTL responses compared to unoptimized constructs. Vaccination with pGX-9501 induced subsequent protection against virus challenge in a rigorous hACE2 transgenic mouse model. Overall, pGX-9501 is a promising optimized COVID-19 DNA vaccine candidate inducing humoral and cellular immunity contributing to the vaccine's protective effects.

Abstract
Different biomarkers for SARS-CoV-2 have been linked to detection, diagnosis, treatment, disease progression, and development of new drugs and vaccines. The objective of this research was to evaluate various hematological, biochemicals, immunological, radiological and spirometric parameters in 20 adult patients convalescing from COVID-19 and their possible relationship with the clinical course of the disease. The frequencies of categorical variables were compared using the chi-square and Fisher's exact test. The levels of statistical significance were denoted in each figure legend. Two-dimensional clustering analysis was performed using MeV software from TIGR. The tests with P value of ≤ 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Most of the patients studied presented alterations in dissimilar laboratory, radiological and spirometric parameters, which were related to the clinical evolution of the disease. The results obtained show that certain hematological, biochemical, immunological and radiological parameters can be considered as biomarkers of sequela in adult COVID-19 patients, which allows their stratification, according to the degree of involvement or sequela, into three groups: I (mild degree of involvement or sequela), without lung lesions on computerized axial tomography (CT scan) and high values of IgG, C3 and hemoglobin, II (moderate degree of involvement or sequel), without lung lesions on CT scan, characterized by high levels of CD3+/CD4+ T lymphocytes and the rest of the variables with low values and III (severe degree of involvement or sequela), with lung lesions on CT scan and high values of erythrocyte sedimentation rate, monocytes and neutrophils, associated with lymphopenia and decreased concentrations of IgG and C3.

Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 has caused a global pandemic and an unprecedented public health crisis, infecting more than 580 million people worldwide. Moreover, recent evidence has suggested the emergence of a new syndrome known as Long-COVID, a term used to describe a diverse set of physical and mental symptoms that persist after a diagnosed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Epidemiological data have identified myalgias, muscle and joint dysfunction, and bone fragility as common sequelae in patients with moderate and severe forms of this disease. Significant musculoskeletal dysfunction has also been detected in some healed patients, although knowledge about pathophysiological mechanisms of Long-COVID is still rather scarce. In this context, SARS-CoV-2 infection has been suggested to amplify the effects of aging on the musculoskeletal system by aggravating the osteosarcopenic state. Based on this evidence, our review focused on the muscle and bone tissue alterations induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection and Long-COVID, summarizing the current knowledge on the underlying biological mechanisms and highlighting the need for a multidisciplinary approach to predict the musculoskeletal targets and long-term consequences of COVID-19 disease.

Abstract
In the growing field of vaccine design for COVID and cancer research, it is essential to predict accurate peptide binding affinity and immunogenicity. We developed a comprehensive machine learning method, ‘IntegralVac,’ by integrating three existing deep learning tools: DeepVacPred, MHCSeqNet, and HemoPI. IntegralVac makes predictions for single and multivalent cancer and COVID-19 epitopes without manually selecting epitope prediction possibilities. We performed several rounds of optimization before integration, then re-trained IntegralVac for multiple datasets. We validated the IntegralVac with 4500 human cancer MHC I peptides obtained from the Immune Epitope Database (IEDB) and with cancer and COVID epitopes previously selected in our laboratory. The other data referenced from existing deep learning tools served as a positive control to ensure successful prediction was possible. As evidenced by increased accuracy and AUC, IntegralVac improved the prediction rate of top-ranked epitopes. We also examined the compatibility between other servers’ clinical checkpoint filters and IntegralVac. This was to ensure that the other servers had a means for predicting additional checkpoint filters that we wanted to implement in IntegralVac. The clinical checkpoint filters, including allergenicity, antigenicity, and toxicity, were used as additional predictors to improve IntegralVac’s prediction accuracy. We generated immunogenicity scores by cross-comparing sequence inputs with each other and determining the overlap between each individual peptide sequence. The IntegralVac increased the immunogenicity prediction accuracy to 90.1% AUC and the binding affinity accuracy to 95.4% compared to the control NetMHCPan server. The IntegralVac opens new avenues for future in silico methods, by building upon established models for continued prediction accuracy improvement.

Abstract
The problem of accurate, fast, and inexpensive COVID-19 tests has been urgent till now. Standard COVID-19 tests need high-cost reagents and specialized laboratories with high safety requirements, are time-consuming. Data of routine blood tests as a base of SARS-CoV-2 invasion detection allows using the most practical medicine facilities. But blood tests give general information about a patient's state, which is not directly associated with COVID-19. COVID-19-specific features should be selected from the list of standard blood characteristics, and decision-making software based on appropriate clinical data should be created. This review describes the abilities to develop predictive models for COVID-19 detection using routine blood tests and machine learning.

Abstract
Since the beginning of COVID-19, human beings have been threatened by various aspects. As of February 14, 2022, this global pandemic has caused about 412 million cases and 5.8 million deaths worldwide. Stock markets are one of the most agile economic indicators. In this context, this study investigates how daily growth in deaths, daily growth in cases, and governmental interventions affect stock market returns in 21 emerging economies from January 22 to December 31, 2020. Our results indicate that government response policies to Covid-19 positively impact stock returns. Besides, the daily growths in deaths and cases negatively affect stock market returns. The results also indicate that government response policies also have an indirect positive effect on stock market returns by weakening the negative impact of the daily growth in COVID-19 confirmed cases and deaths.

Abstract
Aim The Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic represents one of the most catastrophic events of recent times. Due to the hospitals’ emergency situation, the population of healthcare workers was the most affected. Healthcare workers who were exposed to COVID-19 patients are most likely to develop psychological distress and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The present study aimed at investigating PTSD in a sample of Italian healthcare workers during this outbreak and to evaluate the effectiveness of the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy with this population. Methods A total of 744 healthcare workers were included. 587 healthcare workers were treated with EMDR, while the other 157 were not treated. Participants were asked to provide sociodemographic information; the post-traumatic symptomatology was evaluated through Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) and to investigate the level of intensity of emotional activation was used The Emotion Thermometer (THERMO) at two time points (pre-post treatment). Results The results obtained between EMDR treatment and non-EMDR treatment were evaluated on only 2 hospitals. Treatment group n = 68 vs. waitlist non-treatment group n = 157. All scores pre- and post-EMDR decreased significantly (p < 0.001) showing an evident effect of EMDR. The differences between pre- and post-treatment of the IES-R scores of subjects in which EMDR was performed as compared to the scores pre- and post-12 weeks of waiting list subjects in which it was not performed were significantly different (p < 0.001). Limitation The emergency situation did not provide an opportunity to explore further aspects that would have been important for research. One limitation is the use and analysis of only two standardized tests. In addition, other psychopathologies were not investigated as outcome measures. A limitation is the comparison of subjects treated online and de visu. Although the protocol used was the same, the mode of intervention may have influenced the results. In addition, the effectiveness of EMDR treatment was only evaluated at two time points (pre-post) with no possibility of follow-up and the lack of a control group. Discussion/conclusion The findings of the present study suggest that healthcare workers were at high risk of developing PTSD when confronted with COVID-19 outbreak and suggest the importance of psychological support during this humanitarian emergency.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Consequences due to infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus can have a direct impact on skeletal muscle, due to the fact that both cardiac and skeletal muscle tissue show robust ACE2(angiotensin-converting enzyme 2) expression, suggesting a potential susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection in both types of tissues. From the articles analyzed we concluded that the musculoskeletal damage is firstly produced by the inflammatory effects, cytokine storm and muscle catabolism. However, myopathy, polyneuropathy and therapies such as corticoids were also considered important factors in muscle fatigue and functional incapacity. Pulmonary rehabilitation programs and early mobilization had a highly contribution during the acute phase and post-illness recovery process and helped patients to reduce dyspnea, increase the capacity of physical effort, overcome psychological disorders and improved the quality of their life. Materials and Methods: We have included in this review 33 articles that contain data on muscle damage following SARS-CoV-2 infection. We used the following keywords to search for articles: SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19, muscle weakness, muscle disease, muscle fatigue, neurological disorders. As a search strategy we used PubMed, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews; Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects and Health Technology Assessment Database to collect the information. We also have chosen the most recent articles published in the last 5 years. Conclusions: Muscular damage, as well as the decrease in the quality of life, are often a consequence of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection through: systemic inflammation, corticotherapy, prolonged bed rest and other unknown factors. Pulmonary rehabilitation programs and early mobilization had a highly contribution during the acute phase and post-illness recovery process and helped patients to reduce dyspnea, increase the capacity of physical effort, overcome psychological disorders and improve the quality of their life.

Abstract
The pandemic of COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 has made a worldwide health emergency. Despite the fact that current vaccines are readily available, several SARSCoV-2 variants affecting the existing vaccine are to be less effective due to the mutations in the structural proteins. Furthermore, the appearance of the new variants cannot be easily predicted in the future. Therefore, the attempts to construct new vaccines or to modify the current vaccines are still pivotal works for preventing the spread of the virus. In the present investigation, the computational analysis through immunoinformatics, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is employed to construct an effective vaccine against SARS-CoV2. The structural proteins of SARS-CoV2 are utilized to create a multiepitope-based vaccine (MEV). According to our findings presented by systematic procedures in the current investigation, the MEV construct may be able to trigger a strong immunological response against the virus. Therefore, the designed MEV could be a potential vaccine candidate against SARS-CoV-2, and also it is expected to be effective for other variants.

Abstract
The relationship between smoking and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) severity remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of smoking status (current smoking and a smoking history) on the clinical severity of COVID-19. Data of all enrolled 588 patients, who were referred to 25 hospitals in Jiangsu province between January 10, 2020 and March 14, 2020, were retrospectively reviewed. Univariate and multivariate regression, random forest algorithms, and additive interaction were used to estimate the importance of selective predictor variables in the relationship between smoking and COVID-19 severity. In the univariate analysis, the proportion of patients with a current smoking status in the severe group was significantly higher than that in the non-severe group. In the multivariate analysis, current smoking remained a risk factor for severe COVID-19. Data from the interaction analysis showed a strong interaction between the number of comorbidities in patients with COVID-19 and smoking. However, no significant interaction was found between smoking and specific comorbidities, such as hypertension, diabetes, etc. In the random forest model, smoking history was ranked sixth in mean decrease accuracy. Active smoking may be significantly associated with an enhanced risk of COVID-19 progression towards severe disease. However, additional prospective studies are needed to clarify the complex relationship between smoking and COVID-19 severity.

Abstract
MSC (a.k.a. mesenchymal stem cell or medicinal signaling cell) cell therapies show promise in decreasing mortality in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and suggest benefits in treatment of COVID-19-related ARDS. We performed a meta-analysis of published trials assessing the efficacy and adverse events (AE) rates of MSC cell therapy in individuals hospitalized for COVID-19. Systematic searches were performed in multiple databases through November 3, 2021. Reports in all languages, including randomized clinical trials (RCTs), non-randomized interventional trials, and uncontrolled trials, were included. Random effects model was used to pool outcomes from RCTs and non-randomized interventional trials. Outcome measures included all-cause mortality, serious adverse events (SAEs), AEs, pulmonary function, laboratory, and imaging findings. A total of 736 patients were identified from 34 studies, which included 5 RCTs (n = 235), 7 non-randomized interventional trials (n = 370), and 22 uncontrolled comparative trials (n = 131). Patients aged on average 59.4 years and 32.2% were women. When compared with the control group, MSC cell therapy was associated with a reduction in all-cause mortality (RR = 0.54, 95% CI: 0.35-0.85, I 2 = 0.0%), reduction in SAEs (IRR = 0.36, 95% CI: 0.14-0.90, I 2 = 0.0%) and no significant difference in AE rate. A sub-group with pulmonary function studies suggested improvement in patients receiving MSC. These findings support the potential for MSC cell therapy to decrease all-cause mortality, reduce SAEs, and improve pulmonary function compared with conventional care. Large-scale double-blinded, well-powered RCTs should be conducted to further explore these results.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM The knowledge about the acute kidney injury (AKI) incidence in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can help health teams to carry out a targeted care plan. This study aimed to determine the AKI incidence in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. METHODS The electronic search covered research published until June 20, 2020, and included five databases, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Lilacs (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Library). Eligible studies were those including data from AKI occurrence in adult patients hospitalized with COVID-19. The primary outcome was AKI incidence, and the secondary outcome assessed was the AKI mortality. Additionally, the estimated incidence of renal replacement therapy (RRT) need also was verified. Using a standardized form prepared in Microsoft Excel, data were extracted by two independents authors, regarding the description of studies, characteristics of patients and clinical data on the AKI occurrence. RESULTS We included 30 studies in this systematic review, of which 28 were included in the meta-analysis. Data were assessed from 18.043 adult patients with COVID-19. The AKI estimate incidence overall and at the ICU was 9.2% (4.6-13.9) and 32.6% (8.5-56.6), respectively. AKI estimate incidence in the elderly patients and those with acute respiratory disease syndrome was 22.9% (-4.0-49.7) and 4.3% (1.8-6.8), respectively. Patients with secondary infection, AKI estimate incidence was 31.6% (12.3-51.0). The estimate incidence of patients that required RRT was 3.2% (1.1-5.4) and estimate AKI mortality was 50.4% (17.0-83.9). CONCLUSION The occurrence of AKI is frequent among adult patients hospitalized with COVID-19, and affects on average, up to 13.9% of these patients. It is believed that AKI occurs early and in parallel with lung injury.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to detect possible associations between lung computed tomography (CT) findings in COVID-19 and patients' age, body weight, vital signs, and medical regimen in Jordan. Methods The present cross-sectional study enrolled 230 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 in Prince Hamza Hospital in Jordan. Demographic data, as well as major lung CT scan findings, were obtained from the hospital records of the COVID-19 patients. Results The main observed major lung changes among the enrolled COVID-19 patients included ground-glass opacification in 47 (20.4%) patients and consolidation in 22 (9.6%) patients. A higher percentage of patients with major lung changes (24%) was observed among patients above 60 years old, while (50%) of patients with no changes in their lung findings were in the age group of 18-29 years old. Results obtained from the present study showed that only patients with major CT lung changes (9.7%) were prescribed more than three antibiotics. Additionally, 41.6 % of patients with major lung CT scan changes had either dry (31.0%) or productive (10.6%) cough at admission. Conclusion Several factors have been identified by this study for their ability to predict lung changes. Early assessment of these predictors could help provide a prompt intervention that may enhance health outcomes and reduce the risk for further lung changes.

Abstract
As the world desperately searches for ways to treat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a growing number of people are turning to herbal remedies. The Artemisia species, such as A. annua and A. afra, in particular, exhibit positive effects against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and COVID-19 related symptoms. A. annua is a source of artemisinin, which is active against malaria, and also exhibits potential for other diseases. This has increased interest in artemisinin's potential for drug repurposing. Artemisinin-based combination therapies, so-called ACTs, have already been recognized as first-line treatments against malaria. Artemisia extract, as well as ACTs, have demonstrated inhibition of SARS-CoV-2. Artemisinin and its derivatives have also shown anti-inflammatory effects, including inhibition of interleukin-6 (IL-6) that plays a key role in the development of severe COVID-19. There is now sufficient evidence in the literature to suggest the effectiveness of Artemisia, its constituents and/or artemisinin derivatives, to fight against the SARS-CoV-2 infection by inhibiting its invasion, and replication, as well as reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, and mitigating lung damage.

Abstract
Rationale & Objective Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common in patients hospitalized with COVID-19, but validated, predictive models for AKI are lacking. We aimed to develop the best predictive model for AKI in hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease 2019 and assess its performance over time with the emergence of vaccines and the Delta variant. Study Design Longitudinal cohort study. Setting & Participants Hospitalized patients with a positive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 polymerase chain reaction result between March 1, 2020, and August 20, 2021 at 19 hospitals in Texas. Exposures Comorbid conditions, baseline laboratory data, inflammatory biomarkers. Outcomes AKI defined by KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes) creatinine criteria. Analytical Approach Three nested models for AKI were built in a development cohort and validated in 2 out-of-time cohorts. Model discrimination and calibration measures were compared among cohorts to assess performance over time. Results Of 10,034 patients, 5,676, 2,917, and 1,441 were in the development, validation 1, and validation 2 cohorts, respectively, of whom 776 (13.7%), 368 (12.6%), and 179 (12.4%) developed AKI, respectively (P = 0.26). Patients in the validation cohort 2 had fewer comorbid conditions and were younger than those in the development cohort or validation cohort 1 (mean age, 54 ± 16.8 years vs 61.4 ± 17.5 and 61.7 ± 17.3 years, respectively, P < 0.001). The validation cohort 2 had higher median high-sensitivity C-reactive protein level (81.7 mg/L) versus the development cohort (74.5 mg/L; P < 0.01) and higher median ferritin level (696 ng/mL) versus both the development cohort (444 ng/mL) and validation cohort 1 (496 ng/mL; P < 0.001). The final model, which added high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, ferritin, and D-dimer levels, had an area under the curve of 0.781 (95% CI, 0.763-0.799). Compared with the development cohort, discrimination by area under the curve (validation 1: 0.785 [0.760-0.810], P = 0.79, and validation 2: 0.754 [0.716-0.795], P = 0.53) and calibration by estimated calibration index (validation 1: 0.116 [0.041-0.281], P = 0.11, and validation 2: 0.081 [0.045-0.295], P = 0.11) showed stable performance over time. Limitations Potential billing and coding bias. Conclusions We developed and externally validated a model to accurately predict AKI in patients with coronavirus disease 2019. The performance of the model withstood changes in practice patterns and virus variants.

Abstract
Many aspects of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its disease, COVID-19, have been studied to determine its properties, transmission mechanisms, and pathology. These efforts are aimed at identifying potential approaches to control or treat the disease. Early treatment of novel SARS-CoV-2 infection to minimize symptom progression has minimal evidence; however, many researchers and firms are working on vaccines, and only a few vaccines exist. COVID-19 is affected by several heavy metals and their nanoparticles. We investigated the effects of heavy metals and heavy metal nanoparticles on SARS-CoV-2 and their roles in COVID-19 pathogenesis. AgNPs, AuNPs, gold-silver hybrid NPs, copper nanoparticles, zinc oxide, vanadium, gallium, bismuth, titanium, palladium, silver grafted graphene oxide, and some quantum dots were tested to see if they could minimize the severity or duration of symptoms in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection when compared to standard therapy.

Abstract
AIM Although chest computed tomography (CT) score has been well evaluated in adult coronavirus disease (COVID-19), its use in paediatric cases is insufficiently studied. Our aim is to evaluate the relationship of chest CT score with disease severity and laboratory parameters. METHODS Seventy-six paediatric patients with confirmed COVID-19 and chest CT evaluation on admission have been included in this study. Chest CT score was calculated for each of the five lobes considering the extent of anatomical involvement, as follows: 0: 0%; 1: <5%; 2: 5%-25%; 3: 26%-50%; 4: 51%-75% and 5: >75%. The resulting total CT score was the sum of each individual lobar score; the range was between 0 and 25. RESULTS Total chest CT score was found to be positively correlated with alanine aminotransferase and d-dimer, and negatively correlated with lymphocyte count. In receiver operating characteristic analysis, total chest CT score had area under the curve 0.99 (95% confidence interval, 0.98-1.00) at cut-off 2 with 95% sensitivity and 96% specificity for the severe disease. Furthermore, in-depth analysis of lobar CT scores showed a correlation between left upper lobe with lymphocyte count, left lower lobe with d-dimer, right middle and lower lobes with alanine aminotransferase and right upper lobe with leukocyte count. CONCLUSIONS There is a significant relationship between chest CT score and COVID-19 severity and laboratory findings in children. This suggests that chest CT scores can be used to assess the severity of the disease and can play an important role in paediatric clinical practice.

Abstract
Introduction We performed a systematic review of comorbidities and symptoms of adult patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to evaluate comorbidities, symptoms, and severity. Material and methods We searched databases and extracted comorbidities and symptoms from the included studies. We stratified the similar signs and symptoms in groups and on the basis of severity and compared them with stratified analysis. Individual case reports and case series with < 5 patients were excluded. Results A total of 163 studies with 43,187 patients were included. Mean age was 54.6 years. There were significantly fewer women in the study (43.9% vs. 56.1%, p < 0.0001). Prevalent cardiovascular comorbidities were hypertension (31.9%), obesity (27.9%), hyperlipidemia (26.4%), smoking (18.9%), diabetes mellitus (17.2%), atherosclerotic disease (9.2%) and arrhythmia (5.0%). The most frequently reported constitutional symptoms of COVID-19 were fever (73.9%), fatigue (33.4%), malaise (29.9%), myalgia and/or arthralgia (19.2%), generalized weakness (19.0%), and chills (11.3%). For the cardiovascular system, chest pain and/or tightness were most often reported (19.6%), followed by palpitations (5.2%). Hypertension and diabetes were common in severe disease. Obesity and congestive heart failure were not observed in any non-severe cases. Severe cases compared to non-severe cases more frequently had fever (87.8% vs. 58.5%, p < 0.001), shortness of breath (47.4% vs. 20.6%, p < 0.001), cough (66.8% vs. 62.9%, p < 0.001), sputum production (35.4% vs. 26.5%, p < 0.001) and rhinorrhea (32.2% vs. 7.3%, p < 0.001). Conclusions Hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerotic diseases are common comorbidities across the world, with obesity as the second most common in the US and more common in men.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection primarily involves the respiratory system but has many noteworthy extra pulmonary manifestations as well. We write this review to highlight the basis of some pathophysiological mechanisms of COVID-19 infection-induced endocrine dysfunction. Different scientific databases and institutional websites were searched to collect and consolidate the most up-to-date data relating to COVID-19 infection and endocrine systems. Hypopituitarism, central diabetes insipidus, SIADH, thyroid abnormalities, hyperglycemia, adrenal insufficiency, orchitis and alteration in sperm morphology have been reported in case reports of patients with COVID-19 infection. Data focusing on COVID-19 vaccination was also searched to summarize the effect, if any, on the endocrine system. Endocrinopathies noted post COVID-19 vaccination, including cases of adrenal hemorrhage, new onset Type II Diabetes Mellitus and subacute thyroiditis, are also discussed in this review. This review calls attention to the misinformation relating to COVID-19 vaccination with supposed endocrine effects such as infertility and problems with pregnancy. Rebutting these misconceptions can help increase compliance and maximize COVID-19 vaccination to the public.

Abstract
Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a highly contagious respiratory infection that has had devastating effects on the world. Recently, new COVID-19 variants are emerging making the situation more challenging and threatening. Evaluation and quantification of COVID-19 lung abnormalities based on chest Computed Tomography (CT) images can help determining the disease stage, efficiently allocating limited healthcare resources, and making informed treatment decisions. During pandemic era, however, visual assessment and quantification of COVID-19 lung lesions by expert radiologists become expensive and prone to error, which raises an urgent quest to develop practical autonomous solutions. In this context, first, the paper introduces an open-access COVID-19 CT segmentation dataset containing 433 CT images from 82 patients that have been annotated by an expert radiologist. Second, a Deep Neural Network (DNN)-based framework is proposed, referred to as the [Formula: see text], that autonomously segments lung abnormalities associated with COVID-19 from chest CT images. Performance of the proposed [Formula: see text] framework is evaluated through several experiments based on the introduced and external datasets. Third, an unsupervised enhancement approach is introduced that can reduce the gap between the training set and test set and improve the model generalization. The enhanced results show a dice score of 0.8069 and specificity and sensitivity of 0.9969 and 0.8354, respectively. Furthermore, the results indicate that the [Formula: see text] model can efficiently segment COVID-19 lesions in both 2D CT images and whole lung volumes. Results on the external dataset illustrate generalization capabilities of the [Formula: see text] model to CT images obtained from a different scanner.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The novel coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has been predominantly linked to respiratory distress syndrome, but hepatic injury has also been reported. The mechanism of liver injury is poorly understood.This review aimed to systematically review the current data through laboratory tests and liver tissue pathology to ascertain the correlation of liver involvement in SARS-CoV-2 infection patients. METHODS The PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Web of Science databases were searched systematically. We included peer-reviewed published papers available online as clinical cases, cohort studies, and retrospective studies, for both in vitro and in vivo human studies. Independent extraction of the data was done by two independent authors. RESULTS A total of 15 articles were finally included in the systematic review process and meta-analysis after exclusion of studies that did not meet the eligibility criteria, summarized in a PRISMA flow diagram.The meta-analysis showed that patients with underlying abnormal liver function and/or histopathological finding had a statistically significant 8.08 times higher odds of severe COVID-19 outcomes when data from the individual studies were pooled (OR 8.08; 95% CI,3.43, 19.03; p = 0.00001). Five of these studies showed histopathological changes on autopsy from cases with severe COVID-19, and in four of these five studies, the histopathology was associated with a history of abnormal liver function after affection with COVID-19. SHORT CONCLUSION The study observed that the severity of COVID-19 was associated with more patients with aberrant liver function tests.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, is typically presented with acute symptoms affecting upper and lower respiratory systems. As the current pandemic progresses, COVID-19 patients are experiencing a series of nonspecific or atypical extra-pulmonary complications such as systemic inflammation, hypercoagulability state, and dysregulation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). These manifestations often delay testing, diagnosis, and the urge to seek effective treatment. Although the pathophysiology of these complications is not clearly understood, the incidence of COVID-19 increases with age and the presence of pre-existing conditions. This review article outlines the pathophysiology and clinical impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on extra-pulmonary systems. Understanding the broad spectrum of atypical extra-pulmonary manifestations of COVID-19 should increase disease surveillance, restrict transmission, and most importantly prevent multiple organ-system complications.

Abstract
This study investigated associations between chest computed tomography (CT) pulmonary opacity score on admission and clinical features and outcomes in COVID-19 patients. The retrospective multi-center cohort study included 496 COVID-19 patients in Jiangsu province, China diagnosed as of March 15, 2020. Patients were divided into four groups based on the quartile of pulmonary opacity score: ≤ 5%, 6-20%, 21-40% and 41% +. CT pulmonary opacity score was independently associated with age, single onset, fever, cough, peripheral capillary oxygen saturation, lymphocyte count, platelet count, albumin level, C-reactive protein (CRP) level and fibrinogen level on admission. Patients with score ≥ 41% had a dramatic increased risk of severe or critical illness [odds ratio (OR), 15.58, 95% confidence interval (CI) 3.82-63.53), intensive care unit (ICU)] admission (OR, 6.26, 95% CI 2.15-18.23), respiratory failure (OR, 19.49, 95% CI 4.55-83.40), and a prolonged hospital stay (coefficient, 2.59, 95% CI 0.46-4.72) compared to those with score ≤ 5%. CT pulmonary opacity score on admission, especially when ≥ 41%, was closely related to some clinical characteristics and was an independent predictor of disease severity, ICU admission, respiratory failure and long hospital stay in patients with COVID-19.

Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 infection is often associated with severe inflammation, oxidative stress, hypoxia and impaired physical activity. These factors all together contribute to muscle wasting and fatigue. In addition, there is evidence of a direct SARS-CoV-2 viral infiltration into skeletal muscle. Aging is often characterized by sarcopenia or sarcopenic obesity These conditions are risk factors for severe acute COVID-19 and long-COVID-19 syndrome. From these observations we may predict a strong association between COVID-19 and decreased muscle mass and functions. While the relationship between physical inactivity, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress and muscle dysfunction is well-known, the effects on muscle mass of COVID-19-related hypoxemia are inadequately investigated. The aim of this review is to highlight metabolic, immunity-related and redox biomarkers potentially affected by reduced oxygen availability and/or muscle fatigue in order to shed light on the negative impact of COVID-19 on muscle mass and function. Possible countermeasures are also reviewed.

Abstract
Background The long-term functional outcome of discharged patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) remains unresolved. We aimed to describe a 6-month follow-up of functional status of COVID-19 survivors. Methods We reviewed the data of COVID-19 patients who had been consecutively admitted to the Tumor Center of Union Hospital (Wuhan, China) between 15 February and 14 March 2020. We quantified a 6-month functional outcome reflecting symptoms and disability in COVID-19 survivors using a post-COVID-19 functional status scale ranging from 0 to 4 (PCFS). We examined the risk factors for the incomplete functional status defined as a PCFS > 0 at a 6-month follow-up after discharge. Results We included a total of 95 COVID-19 survivors with a median age of 62 (IQR 53–69) who had a complete functional status (PCFS grade 0) at baseline in this retrospective observational study. At 6-month follow-up, 67 (70.5%) patients had a complete functional outcome (grade 0), 9 (9.5%) had a negligible limited function (grade 1), 12 (12.6%) had a mild limited function (grade 2), 7 (7.4%) had moderate limited function (grade 3). Univariable logistic regression analysis showed a significant association between the onset symptoms of muscle or joint pain and an increased risk of incomplete function (unadjusted OR 4.06, 95% CI 1.33–12.37). This association remained after adjustment for age and admission delay (adjusted OR 3.39, 95% CI 1.06–10.81, p = 0.039). Conclusions A small proportion of discharged COVID-19 patients may have an incomplete functional outcome at a 6-month follow-up; intervention strategies are required. Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with severe COVID-19 are more likely to develop adverse outcomes with a huge medical burden. We aimed to investigate whether a shorter symptom onset to admission time (SOAT) could improve outcomes of COVID-19 patients. METHODS A single-center retrospective study combined with a meta-analysis was performed. The meta-analysis identified studies published between 1 December 2019 and 15 April 2020. Additionally, clinical data of COVID-19 patients diagnosed between January 20 and February 20, 2020, at the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China were retrospectively analyzed. SOAT and severity of illness in patients with COVID-19 were used as effect measures. The random-effects model was used to analyze the heterogeneity across studies. Propensity score matching was applied to adjust for confounding factors in the retrospective study. Categorical data were compared using Fisher's exact test. We compared the differences in laboratory characteristic varied times using a two-way nonparametric, Scheirer-Ray-Hare test. RESULTS In a meta-analysis, we found that patients with adverse outcomes had a longer SOAT (I2 = 39%, mean difference 0.88, 95% confidence interval = 0.47-1.30). After adjusting for confounding factors, such as age, complications, and treatment options, the retrospective analysis results also showed that severe patients had longer SOAT (mean difference 1.13 [1.00, 1.27], p = 0.046). Besides, most biochemical marker levels improved as the hospitalization time lengthened without the effect of disease severity or associated treatment (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Shortening the SOAT may help reduce the possibility of mild patients with COVID-19 progressing to severe illness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies have demonstrated the diagnostic efficiency of antibody testing in COVID-19 infection. There is limited data on the IgM/IgG changes in asymptomatic and discharged patients with reoccurring positive nucleic acid test (RPNAT). This study aims to investigate these IgM/IgG changes. METHODS There were 111 patients with positive nucleic acid test (NAT) and 40 suspected patients enrolled in the study. The serum SARS-CoV-2 specific IgM/IgG antibody levels were retrospectively analysed with the disease progress in asymptomatic and RPNAT patients. RESULTS The best overall performance was found by combining the IgM, IgG, and CT; 95.1% sensitivity and 75% specificity. This was tested in 111 RT-PCR positive cases. The median IgM and IgG levels were lower in the asymptomatic group compared to the symptomatic group (p < .01). Among 15 RPNAT cases, the IgM levels of the RPNAT group at the time of discharge (IgM2.79, IQR: 0.95-5.37) and retest (IgM 2.35, IQR: 0.88-8.65) were significantly higher than those of the non-reoccurring positive nucleic acid test group (Non-RPNAT) (IgM on discharge: 0.59, IQR: 0.33-1.22, IgG on retest: 0.92, IQR: 0.51-1.58). CONCLUSION Serum SARS-CoV-2 specific IgM/IgG antibody levels remained at a low level during hospitalisation for asymptomatic patients. Elevated IgM levels may have implications in the identification of RPNAT patients before discharge. Key messages This study determined the IgM/IgG changes in asymptomatic and RPNAT patients. The rate of serum SARS-CoV-2 specific IgM/IgG antibody levels increase in the asymptomatic group was lower than in the symptomatic group during hospitalisation. The IgM level did not decrease significantly at discharge in the RPNAT patients, and was higher than that of the Non-RPNAT group on discharge. These results highlight the importance of timely monitoring of IgM levels to identify RPNAT patients before discharge.

Abstract
Background It is known that SARS-CoV-2 mostly infects the respiratory system causing pneumonia; although it can also affect the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), which covered with a bi-layer of mucus rich in glycosylated proteins that terminated by sialic acid. Therefore; this study aimed to evaluate serum total sialic acid (TSA) in moderate COVID-19 patients with and without GIT manifestations. Methods A total of 161 moderate COVID-19 patients without and with GIT manifestations and 50 controls were enrolled into our study. Serum electrolytes levels were measured by using colorimetric or turbidmetric commercial assay kits, while the level of serum TSA was measured by using a commercial ELISA kit. Results Our results showed that serum TSA level was highly significantly increased in moderate COVID-19 patients with GIT manifestations (81.43 ± 8.91) when compared with controls (61.24 ± 6.41) or even moderate COVID-19 patients without GIT manifestations (69.46 ± 7.03). ROC curve analysis showed that AUC for TSA is 0.84 with 76.2 % sensitivity and 73.7 % specificity in discrimination between moderate COVID-19 patients with and without GIT manifestations. Serum potassium and sodium levels were highly significantly decreased in moderate COVID-19 patients with GIT manifestations when compared with controls or even moderate COVID-19 patients without GIT manifestations; while serum calcium level was found to be significantly decreased in moderate COVID-19 patients with GIT manifestations when compared with controls. Conclusion Finally, we can conclude that SA plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of GIT complications associated with COVID-19 and could be a potential biomarker for the COVID-19 gastrointestinal complications.

Abstract
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has become a pandemic since March 2020 and led to significant challenges to over 200 countries and regions all over the world. The establishment of highly pathogenic coronavirus animal model is beneficial for the study of vaccines and pathogenic mechanism of the virus. Laboratory mice, Syrian hamsters, Non-human primates and Ferrets have been used to establish animal models of emerging coronavirus infection. Different animal models can reproduce clinical infection symptoms at different levels. Appropriate animal models are of great significance for the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and the research progress related to vaccines. This review aims to introduce the current progress about experimental animal models for SARS-CoV-2, and collectively generalize critical aspects of disease manifestation in humans and increase their usefulness in research into COVID-19 pathogenesis and developing new preventions and treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A growing body of research has highlighted the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on women's mental health. Previous studies showed that women have higher levels of depression, anxiety and PTSD, and worse psychological adjustment than men, which also persisted after the earlier phase of the pandemic. This study aimed to evaluate changes in women's psychological distress during the pandemic and to evaluate the factors that have a more significant impact in predicting women's psychological distress. METHODS This two-wave longitudinal study (T1 = Italian first lockdown, and T2 = second phase, when the restrictive measures were eased) involved 893 women (Mage = 36.45, SD = 14.48). Participants provided demographic and health data as well as measures of psychological distress, emotion regulation processes, and ability to tolerate uncertainty. RESULTS No significant changes were found in women's psychological distress between T1 and T2, i.e., during and after the first lockdown. Lower social stability status and higher maladaptive emotional coping predicted high psychological distress. CONCLUSIONS Results showed that modifiable psychological variables play a central role in predicting distress and indicated that emotion regulation interventions might be helpful in increasing psychological resilience and mitigating the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic within the female population.

Abstract
COVID-19 is still a deadly disease that remains yet a major challenge for humans. In recent times, many large pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical companies have invested a lot of time and cost in fighting this disease. In this regard, today's scientific knowledge shows that designing and producing an effective vaccine is the best possible way to diminish the disease burden and dissemination or even eradicate the disease. Due to the urgent need, many vaccines are now available earlier than scheduled. New technologies have also helped to produce much more effective vaccines, although the potential side effects must be taken into account. Thus, in this review, the types of vaccines and vaccine designs made against COVID-19, the vaccination programs, as well as the delivery methods and molecules that have been used to deliver some vaccines that need a carrier will be described.

Abstract
To investigate the characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia and evaluate whether CT scans, especially at a certain CT level, could be used to predict the severity of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. In total 118 confirmed patients had been enrolled. All data including epidemiological, clinical characteristics, laboratory results, and images were collected and analyzed when they were administrated for the first time. All patients were divided into two groups. There were 106 severe/critical patients and 12 common ones. A total of 38 of the patients were women. The mean age was 50.5 ± 11.5 years. Overall, 80 patients had a history of exposure. The median time from onset of symptoms to administration was 8.0 days. The main symptoms included fever, cough, anorexia, fatigue, myalgia, headaches, and chills. Lymphocytes and platelets decreased and lactate dehydrogenase increased with increased diseased severity (P < 0.05). Calcium and chloride ions were decreased more significantly in severe/critical patients than in common ones (P < 0.05). The main comorbidities were diabetes, chronic cardiovascular disease, and chronic pulmonary disease, which occurred in 47 patients. In all 69 patients had respiratory failure, which is the most common SARS-CoV-2 complication, and liver dysfunction presented in 37 patients. Nine patients received mechanical ventilation therapy. One patient received continuous blood purification and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (EMCO) treatments. The average stay was 18.1 ± 10.8 days. Four patients died. The median of the radiographic score was four in common, and five in the severe/critical illness, which was a significant difference between the two groups. The radiographic score was in negative correlation with OI (ρ = −0.467, P < 0.01). The OI in severe/critically ill cases decreased significantly as the disease progressed, which was related to the lesion area in the left lung and right lungs (ρ = 0.688, R = 0.733). OI, the lesion area in the left lung and right lungs, lymphocytes, etc. were associated with different degrees of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia (P < 0.05). The lesion area in both lungs were possible predictive factors for severe/critical cases. Patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia showed obvious clinical manifestations and laboratory result changes. Combining clinical features and the quantity of the lesion area in the fourth level of CT could effectively predict severe/critical SARS-CoV-2 cases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The cause of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a virus which can lead to severe acute respiratory syndrome-CoV-2 (SARS-COV-2). There are evidences of involvement of immune system in pathogenesis of this disease. We investigated the presence of various vasculitis-associated autoantibodies and complement levels in patients with COVID-19. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with severe or critical type of COVID-19 were evaluated for symptoms, signs, and laboratory tests of vasculitis syndromes including rheumatoid factor (RF), antinuclear antibody (ANA), anti-double-stranded DNA, c and p anti-neutrophilic cytoplasmic antibody (c ANCA and P ANCA), and complement levels. RESULTS The study was performed in forty patients with severe or critical illness. The mean age of the participants was 48.5 ± 9.8 years. All patients had pulmonary involvement in lung computed tomography scans. Vasculitis laboratory test results included RF in two patients, ANA in three patients, and ANCA in one patient. Seventeen (42.5%) patients had hypocomplementemia in one or more complement tests. Four patients expired, of whom three had a decrease in complement level. CONCLUSION Decrease in complement levels may predict a critical state of COVID-19 disease. Therefore, measuring its levels may be of great benefit in making earlier decisions to initiate disease-suppressing treatments including corticosteroids.

Abstract
Novel SARS-CoV-2, an etiological factor of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), poses a great challenge to the public health care system. Among other druggable targets of SARS-Cov-2, the main protease (Mpro) is regarded as a prominent enzyme target for drug developments owing to its crucial role in virus replication and transcription. We pursued a computational investigation to identify Mpro inhibitors from a compiled library of natural compounds with proven antiviral activities using a hierarchical workflow of molecular docking, ADMET assessment, dynamic simulations and binding free-energy calculations. Five natural compounds, Withanosides V and VI, Racemosides A and B, and Shatavarin IX, obtained better binding affinity and attained stable interactions with Mpro key pocket residues. These intermolecular key interactions were also retained profoundly in the simulation trajectory of 100 ns time scale indicating tight receptor binding. Free energy calculations prioritized Withanosides V and VI as the top candidates that can act as effective SARS-CoV-2 Mpro inhibitors.

Abstract
Quantification of SARS-CoV-2 in urban wastewaters has emerged as a cheap, efficient strategy to follow trends of active COVID-19 cases in populations. Moreover, mathematical models have been developed that allow the prediction of active cases following the temporal patterns of viral loads in wastewaters. In Mexico, no systematic efforts have been reported in the use of these strategies. In this work, we quantified SARS-CoV-2 in rivers and irrigation canals in the Mezquital Valley, Hidalgo, an agricultural region where wastewater from Mexico City is distributed and used for irrigation. Using quantitative RT-PCR, we detected the virus in six out of eight water samples from rivers and five out of eight water samples from irrigation canals. Notably, samples showed a general consistent trend of having the highest viral loads in the sites closer to Mexico City, indicating that this is the main source that contributes to detection. Using the data for SARS-CoV-2 concentration in the river samples, we generated a simplified transport model that describes the spatial patterns of dispersion of virus in the river. We suggest that this model can be extrapolated to other wastewater systems where knowledge of spatial patterns of viral dispersion, at a geographic scale, is required. Our work highlights the need for improved practices and policies related to the use of wastewater for irrigation in Mexico and other countries.

Abstract
AIM This study aims to analyse the epidemiological and clinical features of the patients admitted to the hospital with the prediagnosis of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) in Turkey. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this retrospective study, epidemiological and clinical features, laboratory markers, radiological features, therapeutic approaches, and survival conditions of the patients with the prediagnosis of COVID-19 from March 11th to June 30th, 2020 have been analysed and reported. The data of the cases were divided into four groups and then compared with each other: first group includes confirmed cases with positive reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and chest computed tomography (CT) imaging results considered as COVID-19 lung involvement, second group includes the clinically diagnosed cases with negative RT-PCR and positive CT imaging abnormalities, third group includes mild and asymptomatic cases with positive RT-PCR and negative CT findings, fourth group includes suspected cases with negative RT-PCR and negative CT findings. Post-hoc analysis was performed to evaluate the differences among the groups. RESULTS In total, 3334 patients with the prediagnosis of COVID-19 admitted to the emergency department. Based on the post hoc analyses, significant differences were found among the four groups in terms of their test results of leukocytes, haemoglobin, platelet, neutrophils, urea and C-reactive protein (CRP) (P < .001). Furthermore, the factors of age groups, hospitalisation, intensive care unit follow-up and mortality rate of the four groups showed a significant difference among the groups (P = .001). CONCLUSION The mean leukocytes, neutrophils and platelet counts of patients with positive RT-PCR were found to be lower than the ones with negative RT-PCR. The mean serum levels of CRP were found to be higher in patients with lung involvement compared with other patient groups.
