Abstract
Long COVID has become a world-wide, non-communicable epidemic, caused by long-lasting multiorgan symptoms that endure for weeks or months after SARS-CoV-2 infection has already subsided. This scientific document aims to provide insight into the possible causes and therapeutic options available for the cardiovascular manifestations of long COVID. In addition to chronic fatigue, which is a common symptom of long COVID, patients may present with chest pain, ECG abnormalities, postural orthostatic tachycardia, or newly developed supraventricular or ventricular arrhythmias. Imaging of the heart and vessels has provided evidence of chronic, post-infectious perimyocarditis with consequent left or right ventricular failure, arterial wall inflammation, or microthrombosis in certain patient populations. Better understanding of the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of long COVID will aid in the development of effective treatment strategies for its cardiovascular manifestations. A number of mechanisms have been proposed, including those involving direct effects on the myocardium, microthrombotic damage to vessels or endothelium, or persistent inflammation. Unfortunately, existing circulating biomarkers, coagulation, and inflammatory markers, are not highly predictive for either the presence or outcome of long COVID when measured 3 months after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Further studies are needed to understand underlying mechanisms, identify specific biomarkers, and guide future preventive strategies or treatments to address long COVID and its cardiovascular sequelae.

Abstract
In the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has undeniably changed everyday life and significantly reshaped the healthcare systems. Besides the direct effect on daily care leading to significant excess mortality, several collateral damages have been observed during the pandemic. The impact of the pandemic led to staff shortages, disrupted education, worse healthcare professional well-being, and a lack of proper clinical training and research. In this review we highlight the results of these important changes and how can the healthcare systems can adapt to prevent unprecedented events in case of future catastrophes.

Abstract
CoronaVIrus Disease-19 (COVID-19) had a huge impact on human health and economy. However, to this date, the effects of the pandemic on the training of young cardiologists are only partially known. To assess the consequences of the pandemic on the education of the cardiologists in training, we performed a 23-item national survey that has been delivered to 1443 Italian cardiologists in training, registered in the database of the Italian Society of Cardiology (SIC). Six hundred and thirty-three cardiologists in training participated in the survey. Ninety-five percent of the respondents affirmed that the training programme has been somewhat stopped or greatly jeopardized by the pandemic. For 61% of the fellows in training (FITs), the pandemic had a negative effect on their education. Moreover, 59% of the respondents believe that they would not be able to fill the gap gained during that period over the rest of their training. A negative impact on the psycho-physical well being has been reported by 86% of the FITs. The COVID-19 pandemic had an unparalleled impact on the education, formation and mental state of the cardiologists in training. Regulatory agencies, universities and politicians should make a great effort in the organization and reorganization of the teaching programs of the cardiologists of tomorrow.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has greatly impacted
graduate medical education for cardiovascular fellows in training. During the
initial case surge in the US in early 2020, most training programs reformatted
didactic curricula, redeployed fellows in training to non-cardiac services or
furloughed fellows in training on non-essential services, reimagined procedural
training in light of decreased case volumes, and balanced issues regarding
trainee wellbeing and safety with occupational COVID-19 exposure risk. In this
article, the authors review the educational challenges posed by the COVID-19
pandemic, and discuss opportunities to incorporate technological and curricular
innovations spurred by the pandemic into cardiovascular fellowship training in
the future.

Abstract
Cardio-oncology is a field dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of cardiovascular disease in cancer patients before, during, and after cancer therapy. It is an emerging field with limited opportunities for structured education and training. In the year 2021, we cannot define the requirements of cardio-oncology training without acknowledging the impact of the global coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic. While this pandemic poses significant health risks to patients with cancer and cardiovascular disease as well as the providers who care for them, it also allows novel opportunities for the nascent field of cardio-oncology to readily adapt. In this article, we detail how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects of cardio-oncology training, how programs and trainees can adapt to these challenges, and how lessons learned from the COVID-19 era can continue to positively impact cardio-oncology training for the foreseeable future.
