Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic condition caused by an inflammation mediated mainly by cytokines and T cells. In COVID-19, the same type of imbalance is common, generating the Cytokine Storm and promoting a worsening in the skin conditions of patients with autoimmune disorders, such as Psoriasis. In this context, one of the main mediators of immune responses presented by SARS-CoV-2 infected patients is the Purinergic System. This immunological resource is capable of stimulating the hyperinflammatory state presented by infected individuals, mainly by the activity of the P2X7 receptor, culminating in the Cytokine Storm and consequently in the Psoriasis crisis. Currently, different drugs are used for patients with Psoriasis, such as immunosuppressants and small molecules; however, the safety of these drugs in infected patients has not been analyzed yet. In this context, studies are being developed to evaluate the possible administration of these traditional drugs to COVID-19 patients with Psoriasis crisis. Along with that, researchers must evaluate the potential of administrating P2X7 antagonists to these patients as well, improving both the systemic and the dermatological prognostics of patients, by reducing the Cytokine Storm and its general effects, but also avoiding the provocation of Psoriasis crisis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Limited information exists regarding the impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection on psoriasis patients. The objective of this study was to identify clinical factors associated with the prognosis of psoriasis following SARS-CoV-2 infection. METHODS A retrospective, multicenter study was conducted between March and May 2023. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were employed to identify factors associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related psoriasis outcomes. The study included 2371 psoriasis patients from 12 clinical centers, with 2049 of them having been infected with SARS-CoV-2. RESULTS Among the infected groups, lower exacerbation rates were observed in individuals treated with biologics compared to those receiving traditional systemic or nonsystemic treatments (22.3% [236/1058] vs . 39.8% [92/231] vs . 37.5% [140/373], P <0.001). Psoriasis progression with lesions (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 8.197, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 5.685-11.820, compared to no lesions), hypertension (adjusted OR = 1.582, 95% CI = 1.068-2.343), traditional systemic (adjusted OR = 1.887, 95% CI = 1.263-2.818), and nonsystemic treatment (adjusted OR = 1.602, 95% CI = 1.117-2.297) were found to be associated with exacerbation of psoriasis after SARS-CoV-2 infection, but not biologics (adjusted OR = 0.931, 95% CI = 0.680-1.274, compared to no treatment), according to multivariable logistic regression analysis. CONCLUSIONS A reduced risk of psoriasis exacerbation after SARS-CoV-2 infection was observed with biologics compared to traditional systemic and nonsystemic treatments. Significant risk factors for exacerbation after infection were identified as existing psoriatic lesions and hypertension. TRIAL REGISTRATION ClinicalTrials.gov (No. NCT05961605).

Abstract
Previous research has not investigated the persistent cutaneous immune-related adverse events (cirAEs) related to long COVID to investigate the long-term sequelae. This multinational study, using a propensity-matched overlap weighting method, utilizes large national claims-based cohorts, using ICD-10 code diagnosis, focusing on patients aged ≥20 years from three countries: South Korean, Japanese, and the British cohorts. To estimate the risk of cirAEs in long COVID, the persistence or emergence of cirAEs occurring 4 weeks after the initial SARS-CoV-2 infection, we employed a Cox proportional hazard regression model. The Korean cohort (n = 5,937,373; mean age 49.2 years [SD: 13.2]), the Japanese cohort (n = 4,307,587; 42.5 years [13.6]), and the UK cohort (n = 395,435; 71.0 years [8.07]) were presented. An increased risk of cirAEs in long COVID was observed (HR, 1.10; 95% CI, 1.06-1.14) in Korean cohort, while a similar association was observed in Japanese and UK cohorts. The long-term risk of cirAEs in long COVID was higher in more severe COVID-19 cases (1.31; 1.22-1.39). Unlike the increased risk of cirAEs in long COVID, COVID-19 vaccination attenuated the risk, especially with two or more doses (1.03; 0.95-1.11) or heterologous regimens (0.98; 0.76-1.27). The time attenuation effect indicated a sustained risk for up to 6 months postinfection (<3 months: 1.13 [1.07-1.19]; 3-6 months: 1.14 [1.06-1.22]). SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with an increased risk of cirAEs in the aspect of long COVID. Vaccination might reduce this risk, highlighting the need for preventive strategies in long COVID management.

Abstract
Background Although obesity is known to be related to allergic diseases, few studies have investigated the prevalence of allergic diseases in individuals with obesity, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, this study aimed to analyze national trends of allergic diseases among individuals with obesity and sociodemographic factors. Methods This study used data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to examine the prevalence of allergic diseases among individuals with obesity in South Korea from 2005 to 2021. A nationally representative sample of 118,275 participants aged over 2 years or above was divided into six groups for analysis. This study used weighted multivariate regression analysis to examine the estimates of related factors. It assessed the weighted odds ratios or β-coefficients for these factors across different categories, including age, sex, region of residence, education level, household income, and body mass index for the entire population. Results All allergic diseases showed a general upward trend from 2005 to 2021, but each disease showed different prevalence trends when compared by age. Before the pandemic, those aged ≤39 years had an increasing trend for asthma and AD, but those aged ≥40 years had a decreasing trend. For asthma, β-coefficients were 0.629 (95 % CI, 0.299 to 0.958) for 19-39 years, -0.245 (-0.450 to -0.040) for 40-59 years, and -0.668 (-1.024 to -0.313) for ≥60 years. For AD, β-coefficients were 2.514 (1.258-3.769) in those aged 2-18 years, 0.630 (0.173-1.086) in those aged 19-39 years, -0.458 (-0.648 to -0.268) in those aged 40-59 years, and -0.253 (-0.454 to -0.052) in those aged ≥60 years. However, for both asthma and AD, there were no significant changes in prevalence during the pandemic. In the case of AR, trends were different from those of asthma and AD. Before the pandemic, AR showed an increasing trend in those aged ≤39 years and those aged ≥40 years: β-coefficients were 3.067 (2.344-3.790) in 19-39 years, 2.051 (1.609-2.493) in 40-59 years, and 1.173 (0.820-1.526) in ≥60 years. During the pandemic, there was an increasing trend only among those aged 40-59, with no significant changes in other age groups: β-coefficients were 1.438 (0.065-2.811) in 40-59 years. Conclusions From 2005 to 2021, all allergic diseases (asthma, AD, and AR) increased overall, but with different age-related trends. No significant link was found between COVID-19 and allergic diseases, possibly due to preventive measures like mask-wearing and social distancing. Anxiety about accessing healthcare during the pandemic likely contributed to a decline in allergy diagnoses, highlighting the need for comprehensive strategies to manage and prevent allergic diseases.

Abstract
Background Limited data are available characterizing the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on psoriasis care for patients in Germany. Objective To analyze patient perception and impact of the pandemic on well-being and psoriasis management of German patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis or psoriasis arthritis under systemic therapies. Methods The CoronaBest registry captures events of SARS-CoV-2 infections and analyzes the impact of the pandemic on patients with psoriasis or psoriasis arthritis. In June 2020, and independently in February 2022, patients with psoriasis or psoriasis arthritis received a standardized questionnaire for current treatment, protective measures, well-being, and individual risks for COVID-19, among others. Results Included were 4,194 patients in 2020 (mean age of 47.7 years and 41.8% women) and 4,818 patients in 2022 (mean age of 56.4 and 42.9% women). Treatment discontinuations were observed in 2.7% and 1.7% of patients in 2020 and 2022, respectively. In the vast majority of the cases (>92%), no additional measures were taken concerning the management of psoriasis treatments in either 2020 or 2022. Those patients with changes reported most frequently: telephone calls instead of face-to-face visits (80.2%, in 2020 vs 40.5% in 2022) or more frequent controls (27.1%, 2020 vs 22.0%, 2022). A majority (66.7%, 2020, and 70.6%, 2022) did not perceive the virus as a considerable threat. The proportion of patients feeling well informed about COVID-19 by physicians increased from 42.6% in 2020 to 51.8% in 2022. About 81.1% of patients in 2020 and 67.5% in 2022 stated that their overall personal condition was not affected due to the pandemic. Physicians attributed no special risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 in most of the patients. Conclusion A high rate of systemic treatment persistence and awareness of risks and protective measures indicate that health care for psoriasis largely followed current national and international recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused significant disruptions to health care services and health impacts on patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and/or food allergy (FA). Objective We evaluated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and disease on AD/FA patients. Methods A comprehensive systematic literature search was conducted from December 2019 to 2022. Screening and data extraction were done following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, and the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool, or MMAT, was used to assess risk of bias. Results In total, 159 studies were included. Five of 7 studies reported no significant changes in overall incidence or prevalence of AD during the pandemic, although some studies noted an increase in the elderly and infants. Telehealth served as an effective alternative to face-to-face consultations, with mixed levels of patient and provider satisfaction. Dissatisfaction was most marked in patients with more severe disease, who thought that their disease was inadequately managed through telemedicine. Higher levels of general anxiety were recorded in both AD/FA patients and caregivers, and it was more pronounced in patients with severe disease. Most studies reported no significant differences in postvaccination adverse effects in AD patients; however, results were more varied in FA patients. Conclusion Our review identified the impact of COVID-19 pandemic- and disease-driven changes on AD/FA patients. Telemedicine is uniquely suited to manage atopic diseases, and hybrid care may be a suitable approach even in the postpandemic era. COVID-19 vaccines and biologics can be safely administered to patients with atopic diseases, with appropriate patient education to ensure continued care for high-risk patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frequent hand washing and disinfection during the corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic may lead to skin-related disability. The causal relationship between atopic dermatitis (AD), the most common chronic, noninfectious, inflammatory skin disease, and COVID-19 remains unclear. We used Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore the causal inference of atopic dermatitis with COVID-19 outcomes. METHODS Genome-wide association study (GWAS) data for AD, consisting of 8383 cases and 236,162 controls of European ethnicity, were provided by the FinnGen database. The GWAS outcome data were derived from the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative and consisted of COVID-19 susceptibility (122,616 cases and 2,475,240 controls), hospitalization (32,519 cases and 2,062,805 controls), and very severe respiratory disease (13,769 cases and 1,072,442 controls). The inverse variance weighted with a fixed effects model (IVW (fe)) was used as the main statistical approach to assess the causality between AD and COVID-19 in this study. Several other analytical methods have also been used to complement or identify pleiotropy and heterogeneity. RESULTS MR analysis showed no causality between AD and COVID-19 outcomes. The odds ratios (OR) were 1.00 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.99-1.02) for susceptibility, 1.00 (95% CI, 0.96-1.04) for hospitalization, 0.97 (95% CI, 0.92-1.03) for very severe respiratory disease by the method of IVW (fe). CONCLUSION In conclusion, we found no causal relationship between AD and COVID-19 outcomes. This study provides additional ideas for the exploration of the risk factors for COVID-19.

Abstract
The threat of COVID-19 infection imposes an additional psychological burden on patients with AD. Whether there is an association between AD and COVID-19 remains unclear as observational studies are susceptible to confounding factors and reverse causality. This study did not indicate a causal relationship between AD and susceptibility, hospitalization and severity of COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Psoriasis and multiple sclerosis (MS) are complex immune diseases that are mediated by T cells and share multiple comorbidities. Previous studies have suggested psoriatic patients are at higher risk of MS; however, causal relationships between the two conditions remain unclear. Through epidemiology and genetics, we provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship, and share molecular factors between psoriasis and MS. METHODS We used logistic regression, trans-disease meta-analysis and Mendelian randomization. Medical claims data were included from 30 million patients, including 141,544 with MS and 742,919 with psoriasis. We used genome-wide association study summary statistics from 11,024 psoriatic, 14,802 MS cases, and 43,039 controls for trans-disease meta-analysis, with additional summary statistics from 5 million individuals for Mendelian randomization. RESULTS Psoriatic patients have a significantly higher risk of MS (4,637 patients with both diseases; odds ratio [OR] 1.07, p = 1.2 × 10-5 ) after controlling for potential confounders. Using inverse variance and equally weighted trans-disease meta-analysis, we revealed >20 shared and opposing (direction of effect) genetic loci outside the major histocompatibility complex that showed significant genetic colocalization (in COLOC and COLOC-SuSiE v5.1.0). Co-expression analysis of genes from these loci further identified distinct clusters that were enriched among pathways for interleukin-17/tumor necrosis factor-α (OR >39, p < 1.6 × 10-3 ) and Janus kinase-signal transducers and activators of transcription (OR 35, p = 1.1 × 10-5 ), including genes, such as TNFAIP3, TYK2, and TNFRSF1A. Mendelian randomization found psoriasis as an exposure has a significant causal effect on MS (OR 1.04, p = 5.8 × 10-3 ), independent of type 1 diabetes (OR 1.05, p = 4.3 × 10-7 ), type 2 diabetes (OR 1.08, p = 2.3 × 10-3 ), inflammatory bowel disease (OR 1.11, p = 1.6 × 10-11 ), and vitamin D level (OR 0.75, p = 9.4 × 10-3 ). INTERPRETATION By investigating the shared genetics of psoriasis and MS, along with their modifiable risk factors, our findings will advance innovations in treatment for patients suffering from comorbidities. Abstract
A substantial fraction of the 15% with double-jointedness or hypermobility have the traditionally ascertained joint-skeletal, cutaneous, and cardiovascular symptoms of connective tissue dysplasia and its particular manifestation as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). The holistic ascertainment of 120 findings in 1261 EDS patients added neuro-autonomic symptoms like headaches, muscle weakness, brain fog, chronic fatigue, dyspnea, and bowel irregularity to those of arthralgia and skin laxity, 15 of these symptoms shared with those of post-infectious SARS-CoV-2 (long COVID-19). Underlying articulo-autonomic mechanisms guided a clinical qualification protocol that qualified DNA variants in 317 genes as having diagnostic utility for EDS, six of them identical (F2-LIFR-NLRP3-STAT1-T1CAM1-TNFRSF13B) and eighteen similar to those modifying COVID-19 severity/EDS, including ADAMTS13/ADAMTS2-C3/C1R-IKBKG/IKBKAP-PIK3C3/PIK3R1-POLD4/POLG-TMPRSS2/TMPRSS6-WNT3/WNT10A. Also, contributing to EDS and COVID-19 severity were forty and three genes, respectively, impacting mitochondrial functions as well as parts of an overlapping gene network, or entome, that are hypothesized to mediate the cognitive-behavioral, neuro-autonomic, and immune-inflammatory alterations of connective tissue in these conditions. The further characterization of long COVID-19 natural history and genetic predisposition will be necessary before these parallels to EDS can be carefully delineated and translated into therapies.

Abstract
We carried out a bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) including cases of eczema (N = 218,792), asthma (N = 462,933), and allergic rhinitis (N = 112,583). COVID-19 susceptibility (N = 1,683,768), COVID-19 hospitalization (N = 1,887,658), and COVID-19 severe respiratory symptom (N = 1,388,342) were sampled from GWAS database. The MR analysis was primarily based on inverse variance weighted (IVW), supplemented by several other algorithms. In the bidirectional MR analysis, eczema was negatively associated with COVID-19 susceptibility (odds ratio (OR) IVW = 0.92; p = 0.031) and COVID-19 hospitalization (ORIVW = 0.81, p = 0.010); asthma was negatively associated with COVID-19 susceptibility (ORIVW = 0.65, p = 0.005) and COVID-19 severe respiratory symptom (ORIVW = 0.20, p = 0.001). No significant association was found between allergic rhinitis and COVID-19 susceptibility (ORIVW = 0.80, p = 0.174), COVID-19 hospitalization (ORIVW = 0.71, p = 0.207), or COVID-19 severe respiratory symptom (ORIVW = 0.56; p = 0.167). The reverse MR analysis showed no potential reverse causal association. Our findings provided new evidence that allergic diseases might be associated with different risks of COVID-19 susceptibility, hospitalization, and severe respiratory symptom.

Abstract
Recent research into the pathophysiology and treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) has shown notable progress. An increasing number of aspects of the immune system are being implicated in AD, including the epithelial barrier, TH2 cytokines, and mast cells. Major advances in therapeutics were made in biologic cytokine and receptor antagonists and among Janus kinase inhibitors. We focus on these areas and address new insights into AD epidemiology, biomarkers, endotypes, prevention, and comorbidities. Going forward, we expect future mechanistic insights and therapeutic advances to broaden physicians' ability to diagnose and manage AD patients, and perhaps to find a cure for this chronic condition.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common disease that is associated with atopic and nonatopic comorbidities. There has been a growing interest in this area of AD, because presence or risk of comorbidities can in many ways impact the management of patients with AD. Thus, some treatments for AD may improve its comorbidities as well, whereas others may increase their risk. In this review article, we discuss various comorbidities of AD mostly on the basis of the results of recent multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses to update readers about this rapidly developing area of dermatology. We emphasize the important information provided by studies presenting both relative risk and absolute risk, and show that AD is associated with, among others, atopic comorbidities such as asthma, rhinitis, and food allergy, nonatopic comorbidities such as ocular, psychiatric, infectious, endocrine, autoimmune, and cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers. Clinicians need to be aware of these and be cognizant about positive and negative effects of existing and new treatments for AD.

Abstract
Psoriasis and coronary artery disease (CAD) are related comorbidities that are well established, but whether a genetic basis underlies this is not well studied. We apply trans-disease meta-analysis to 11,024 psoriasis and 60,801 CAD cases, along with their associated controls, identifying one opposing and three shared genetic loci, which are confirmed through colocalization analysis. Combining results from Bayesian credible interval analysis with independent information from genomic, epigenomic, and spatial chromatin organization, we prioritize genes (including IFIH1 and IL23A) that have implications for common molecular mechanisms involved in psoriasis and CAD inflammatory signaling. Chronic systemic inflammation has been associated with CAD and myocardial infarction, and Mendelian randomization analysis finds that CAD as an exposure can have a significant causal effect on psoriasis (OR = 1.11; p = 3×10-6) following adjustment for BMI and waist-hip ratio. Together, these findings suggest that systemic inflammation which causes CAD can increase the risk of psoriasis.

Abstract
Little is known about the relationship of COVID-19 outcomes with onychomycosis. We investigated the relationship of onychomycosis with COVID-19 outcomes. A retrospective cohort study was performed on SARS-CoV-2 positive adult outpatients or inpatients who had onychomycosis and other skin diseases. Overall, 430 adults were identified with SARS-CoV-2 and a skin disease, including 98 with diagnosed onychomycosis. In bivariable logistic regression models, onychomycosis was associated with increased hospitalization {odds ratio(OR) [95% confidence interval (CI)]: 3.56 [2.18-5.80]}, initial inpatient vs. outpatient visits (OR [95% CI]: 2.24 [1.35-3.74]), use of oxygen therapy (OR [95% CI]: 2.77 [1.60-4.79]), severe-critical vs. asymptomatic-mild severity (OR [95% CI]: 2.28 [1.32-3.94]), and death (OR [95% CI]: 7.48 [1.83-30.47]) from COVID-19, but not prolonged hospitalization (OR [95% CI]: 1.03 [0.47-2.25]). In multivariable models adjusting for socio-demographics, comorbidities, and immunosuppressant medication use, the associations with onychomycosis remained significant for hospitalization, inpatient visits, oxygen therapy, severe-critical COVID-19. Onychomycosis was a significant independent risk factor for COVID-19 severity, hospitalization, and receiving supplemental oxygen therapy.

Abstract
In the early days of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, allergic diseases, especially asthma, were considered to be risk factors for severe COVID-19 infection, hospitalization, and death. These concerns stemmed from the idea that individuals with allergic diseases are generally more susceptible to respiratory virus infections, which are major causes of exacerbation of allergic diseases. However, epidemiologic data with mechanistic studies showed that the associations between severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and clinical outcomes of allergic diseases are complex and affected by diverse factors such as allergic disease severity, phenotypes, and control status with current medications. In addition, children generally have less severe clinical outcomes of COVID-19 than those of adults, which complicates the association between allergic diseases and COVID-19-related outcomes among them. The present review summarizes the potential association between allergic diseases and COVID-19-related outcomes and discusses the factors requiring consideration. The findings viewed herein will aid the management of allergic diseases in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection and the establishment of medical polices for managing patients with allergic diseases.

The prevalence of facial pressure injuries among nurses during COVID-19 pandemic and its relationship to COVID-19 infection. J Tissue Viability 2022; 31:699-706. Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of facial pressure injuries related to personal protective equipment use in nurses and the relationship with getting COVID-19 infection. DESIGN The study used descriptive and correlational online survey design. METHODS Nurses in Turkey were recruited via an electronic link sent to their social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), WhatsApp, and e-mail during the study: March-April 2021. Of them, 603 participants completed the survey form from all over Turkey. RESULTS/FINDINGS Facial pressure injuries develop in nurses due to use of personal protective equipment. The rates of facial pressure injuries were higher in the nurses who were younger (p=0.002) and those who had less experience years (p=0.005) than the other nurses. The statistically significant variables were determined as age, status of using face shield, status of wearing overalls and status of wearing shoe covers (p<0.05). We determined that facial pressure injuries were not significantly associated with getting COVID-19 infection (p>0,05). CONCLUSIONS This study showed that facial pressure injuries associated with personal protective equipment use among nurses, who work on the frontlines in the COVID-19 pandemic period, is highly prevalent. Experiencing facial pressure injuries did not have a significant effect on the participants' statuses of getting infected with COVID-19. Providing training in health institutions may present an effective strategy in lowering problems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have brought great disaster to mankind, and there is currently no globally recognized specific drug or treatment. Severe COVID-19 may trigger a cytokine storm, manifested by increased levels of cytokines including interleukin-17 (IL-17), so a new strategy to treat COVID-19 may be to use existing IL-17 inhibitors, which have demonstrated efficacy, safety and tolerability in the treatment of psoriasis. However, the use of IL-17 inhibitors in patients with psoriasis during the COVID-19 pandemic remains controversial due to reports that IL-17 inhibitors may increase the risk of respiratory tract infections. OBJECTIVES The systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effect of IL-17 inhibitors on the risk of COVID-19 infection, hospitalization, and mortality in patients with psoriasis. METHODS Databases (including Embase, PubMed, SCI-Web of Science, Scopus, CNKI, and the Cochrane Library) were searched up to August 23, 2022, for studies exploring differences in COVID-19 outcomes between psoriasis patients using IL-17 inhibitors and those using non-biologics. Two authors independently extracted data and assessed the risk of bias in a double-blind manner. The risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated and heterogeneities were determined by the Q test and I 2 statistic. And the numbers needed to treat (NNTs) were calculated to assess the clinical value of IL-17 inhibitors in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection and treating COVID-19. RESULTS Nine observational studies involving 7,106 participants were included. The pooled effect showed no significant differences in the rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection (P = 0.94; I 2 = 19.5%), COVID-19 hospitalization (P = 0.64; I 2 = 0.0%), and COVID-19 mortality (P = 0.32; I 2 = 0.0%) in psoriasis patients using IL-17 inhibitors compared with using non-biologics. Subgroup analyses grouped by age and COVID-19 cases, respectively, revealed consistent results as above. Meanwhile, the pooled NNTs showed no significant differences between the two groups in the clinical value of preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection and treating COVID-19. CONCLUSION The use of IL-17 inhibitors in patients with psoriasis does not increase the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection or worsen the course of COVID-19. Abstract
COVID-19 is a recently emerged viral infection worldwide. SARS-CoV-2, the causative virus, is believed to have emerged from bat coronaviruses, probably through host conversion. The bat coronavirus which has the highest gene homology to SARS-CoV-2 specifically infects deep forest bats in China whose habitat extends through the Middle East to Southern Europe. Host conversion might have occurred due to the deforestation by humans exposing wild bats to the environment they had never encountered before. SARS-CoV-2 infects cells through two mechanisms: through its receptor ACE2 with the help of enzyme TMPRSS and through membrane fusion with the help of elastases in the inflammatory condition. Obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and pulmonary diseases cause poor prognosis of COVID-19. Aging is another factor promoting poor prognosis. These diseases and aging cause low-level and persistent inflammation in humans, which can promote poor prognosis of COVID-19. Psoriasis and atopic dermatitis are the major inflammatory skin diseases. These inflammatory skin conditions, however, do not seem to cause poor prognosis for COVID-19 based on the epidemiological data accumulated so far. These mechanisms need to be elucidated.

Abstract
Purpose The aim of this study was to assess the incidence and characteristics of COVID-19 cutaneous manifestations among geriatric patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Patients and Methods Sixty-four nursing home residents in Dobre Miasto, Poland (mean age: 79 years) infected with SARS-CoV-2 were monitored for skin lesions during the epidemic outbreak in 2020. Only five of them presented COVID-19 dermatological manifestation: vesicular (4 cases) and erythematous (1 case) skin lesions, which appeared after the remaining symptoms of the disease had resolved. Results The average time between COVID-19 onset and cutaneous manifestation was 22 days. Skin lesions persisted in five cases 112, 17, 21,19 and 27 days, respectively, and were often accompanied by pruritus and neuropathic pain. Conclusion Skin manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection might be misdiagnosed or overlooked, particularly among elderly patients with chronic diseases. The recognition of skin lesions due to COVID-19 might improve patients' quality of life by reducing the intensity of symptoms such as pruritus or neuropathic pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Limited data are available on the effects of systemic immunomodulatory treatments on COVID-19 outcomes in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). OBJECTIVE To investigate COVID-19 outcomes in patients with AD treated with or without systemic immunomodulatory treatments, using a global registry platform. METHODS Clinicians were encouraged to report cases of COVID-19 in their patients with AD in the Surveillance Epidemiology of Coronavirus Under Research Exclusion for Atopic Dermatitis (SECURE-AD) registry. Data entered from 1 April 2020 to 31 October 2021 were analysed using multivariable logistic regression. The primary outcome was hospitalization from COVID-19, according to AD treatment groups. RESULTS 442 AD patients (mean age 35.9 years, 51.8% male) from 27 countries with strongly suspected or confirmed COVID-19 were included in analyses. 428 (96.8%) patients were treated with a single systemic therapy (n = 297 [67.2%]) or topical therapy only (n = 131 [29.6%]). Most patients treated with systemic therapies received dupilumab (n = 216). Fourteen patients (3.2%) received a combination of systemic therapies. Twenty-six patients (5.9%) were hospitalized. No deaths were reported. Patients treated with topical treatments had significantly higher odds of hospitalization, compared with those treated with dupilumab monotherapy (odds ratio (OR) 4.65 [95%CI 1.71-14.78]), including after adjustment for confounding variables (adjusted OR (aOR) 4.99 [95%CI 1.4-20.84]). Combination systemic therapy which did not include systemic corticosteroids was associated with increased odds of hospitalization, compared with single agent non-steroidal immunosuppressive systemic treatment (OR 8.09 [95%CI 0.4-59.96], aOR 37.57 [95%CI 1.05-871.11]). Hospitalization was most likely in patients treated with combination systemic therapy which included systemic corticosteroids (OR 40.43 [95%CI 8.16-207.49], aOR 45.75 [95%CI 4.54-616.22]). CONCLUSIONS Overall, the risk of COVID-19 complications appears low in patients with AD, even when treated with systemic immunomodulatory agents. Dupilumab monotherapy was associated with lower hospitalization than other therapies. Combination systemic treatment, particularly combinations including systemic corticosteroids, was associated with the highest risk of severe COVID-19.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The impact of psoriasis on the outcomes of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is yet to be precisely delineated. OBJECTIVES To assess the risk of COVID-19, COVID-19-associated hospitalization, and mortality among patients with psoriasis as compared with age-, sex-, and ethnicity-matched control subjects. In addition, we aim to delineate determinants of COVID-19-associated hospitalization and mortality in patients with psoriasis. METHODS A population-based retrospective cohort study was performed to longitudinally follow patients with psoriasis and their matched controls with regard to COVID-19-related outcomes. The risk of COVID-19 infection, COVID-19-associated hospitalization, and mortality were assessed using uni- and multi-variable Cox regression analyses. Determinants of COVID-19-associated hospitalization and mortality were evaluated using multivariable logistic regression analysis. RESULTS The study population included 144 304 patients with psoriasis and 144 304 age- and sex-matched control individuals. Patients with psoriasis displayed a slightly elevated risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection (fully-adjusted HR, 1.05; 95% CI, 1.03-1.08; p < 0.001). Relative to controls, patients with psoriasis had comparable multivariate risk of COVID-19-associated hospitalization (fully-adjusted HR, 1.08; 95% CI, 0.99-1.18; p = 0.065) and COVID-19-associated mortality (fully-adjusted HR, 0.88; 95% CI, 0.73-1.05; p = 0.162). When evaluating individuals hospitalized due to COVID-19, patients with psoriasis were more likely to have type-2 diabetes mellitus (adjusted OR, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.03-1.50; p = 0.027) and obesity (adjusted OR, 1.37; 95% CI, 1.13-1.65; p = 0.001) relative to controls. CONCLUSIONS While patients with psoriasis are at a higher risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 infection, they are not more susceptible to the complications of COVID-19.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is a leading global health and economic challenge. What defines the disease’s progression is not entirely understood, but there are strong indications that oxidative stress and the defense against reactive oxygen species are crucial players. A big influx of immune cells to the site of infection is marked by the increase in reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. Our article aims to highlight the critical role of oxidative stress in the emergence and severity of COVID-19 and, more importantly, to shed light on the underlying molecular and genetic mechanisms. We have reviewed the available literature and clinical trials to extract the relevant genetic variants within the oxidative stress pathway associated with COVID-19 and the anti-oxidative therapies currently evaluated in the clinical trials for COVID-19 treatment, in particular clinical trials on glutathione and N-acetylcysteine.

Abstract
The uptick in SARS-CoV-2 infection has resulted in a worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, which has created troublesome health and economic problems. We performed case-control meta-analyses in both African and European ethnicity COVID-19 disease cases based on laboratory test and phenotypic criteria. The cases had laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. We uniquely investigated COVID infection genetics in a pediatric population. Our cohort has a large African ancestry component, also unique to our study. We tested for genetic variant association in 498 cases vs. 1,533 controls of African ancestry and 271 cases vs. 855 controls of European ancestry. We acknowledge that the sample size is relatively small, owing to the low prevalence of COVID infection among pediatric individuals. COVID-19 cases averaged 13 years of age. Pediatric genetic studies enhance the ability to detect genetic associations with a limited possible environment impact. Our findings support the notion that some genetic variants, most notably at the SEMA6D, FMN1, ACTN1, PDS5B, NFIA, ADGRL3, MMP27, TENM3, SPRY4, MNS1, and RSU1 loci, play a role in COVID-19 infection susceptibility. The pediatric cohort also shows nominal replication of previously reported adult study results: CCR9, CXCR6, FYCO1, LZTFL1, TDGF1, CCR1, CCR2, CCR3, CCR5, MAPT-AS1, and IFNAR2 gene variants. Reviewing the biological roles of genes implicated here, NFIA looks to be the most interesting as it binds to a palindromic sequence observed in both viral and cellular promoters and in the adenovirus type 2 origin of replication.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) represents a threat for people with immune-mediated diseases. It seems that patients with psoriasis appear to have a similar SARS-CoV-2 infection rate as the general population. Our study aimed to identify factors associated with contracting COVID-19 and determining the severity of COVID-19 among psoriatic patients in a real practice setting. We conducted a cross-sectional study with 379 respondents. About one-quarter (n = 78; 25.8%) of the respondents who provided information on their COVID-19 (n = 302) status had contracted COVID-19. Most variables tested for their effect on getting COVID-19 proved to be statistically insignificant, except education, age and gender. Our study proved the protective effect of vaccination, especially the third dose, against the COVID-19 outcome. From all the potential variables, we found that non-Roma ethnicity increased the chance of being vaccinated at least once by 2.6-fold. Patients with a longer psoriasis duration had a higher chance of being vaccinated. We consider biological treatment of psoriasis safe during COVID-19. Vaccination of patients was a statistically significant protector against COVID-19. It is important to point out that only three doses of vaccine decreased with statistical significance the chance of getting the illness. Our findings should be confirmed on larger samples in further studies.

Abstract
Introduction With the advent of COVID‐19, a highly infectious viral pandemic, first declared in Cameroon in March 2020, access to expert dermatology care was postulated to decrease. We carried out a descriptive study to understand the epidemiology of skin diseases amongst patients consulting at an outpatient dermatology clinic and its variations with the onset of COVID‐19. Methods We conducted a retrospective database study over a period of 2 years at Laquintinie hospital, Cameroon. Two periods were distinguished: 1 March 2019 to 29 February 2020 (pre‐COVID‐19 era) and 1 March 2020 to 28 February 2021 (COVID‐19 era). Results Overall, 5946 patients with one or more clinical conditions were analysed. The most common age group described was young adults (18–40 years). Females consulted twice as much as males (M/F ratio; 1:1.7). The mean age was 28.9 (±18.0) years with an age range of 1 month to 89 years. Infectious dermatoses predominated. However, the single most prevalent dermatologic condition was acne. There was a 35.6% drop in consultation frequency in the COVID‐19 era. Conclusion Three in four patients consulting at dermatology clinic are below 40 years, with a female predominance. Epidemiological profile of dermatoses in Cameroon is similar to that in the rest of Africa. Consultation frequency decreased in the COVID‐19 era but trends in consultations were rather unaltered except for patients above 50 years where eczema and scabies increased. More studies should be conducted to understand these trends better at a national level and envisage training of health personnel on prevalent dermatoses.

Abstract
Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, clinicians have been overwhelmed by questions beyond the SARS-CoV-2 infection itself. In dermatology practice, clinicians have been facing difficulties concerning therapeutic management of chronic immune-mediated skin disease, above all psoriasis. Major challenges arisen were to understand the role of immunosuppression or immunomodulation on COVID-19 evolution, the benefit/risk ratio related to discontinuation or modification of ongoing treatment, and the appropriateness of initiating new treatments, the optimization of timing in vaccination administration to patients under immunomodulatory treatments, and finally how to find new strategy of patients’ management through remote assistance. In this comprehensive review, we present the current evidence about the course and management of psoriasis during the COVID-19 pandemic. The general message from dermatologists was that data did not suggest that having PSO or its treatment significantly increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection or more severe COVID-19 course, the vaccination is highly recommended in all psoriatic patients, beyond ongoing treatment, and that the telehealth experience was a success overall.

Abstract
This narrative review article was conducted to lay out a summarized but exhaustive review of current literature over mucocutaneous manifestations in 4 dimensions of SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic: virus itself, treatment‐related, vaccine‐induced, and alteration of chronic dermatologic diseases following infection. Virus and vaccine‐related were mainly self‐limited and non‐severe. Treatment‐related reactions could be life‐threatening.

Abstract
The enormous burden of the COVID-19 pandemic in economic and healthcare terms has cast a shadow on the serious threat of antimicrobial resistance, increasing the inappropriate use of antibiotics and shifting the focus of drug discovery programmes from antibacterial and antifungal fields. Thus, there is a pressing need for new antimicrobials involving innovative modes of action (MoAs) to avoid cross-resistance rise. Thiosemicarbazones (TSCs) stand out due to their easy preparation and polypharmacological application, also in infectious diseases. Recently, we reported a small library of TSCs (1–9) that emerged for their non-cytotoxic behaviour. Inspired by their multifaceted activity, we investigated the antibacterial, antifungal, and antidermatophytal profiles of derivatives 1–9, highlighting a new promising research line. Furthermore, the ability of these compounds to inhibit selected microbial and human carbonic anhydrases (CAs) was assessed, revealing their possible involvement in the MoA and a good selectivity index for some derivatives.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is an incomplete understanding of the risk of COVID-19 infection in atopic dermatitis (AD) patients. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the risk of COVID-19 infection in AD patients in a large, diverse cohort. METHODS A case-control study of the All of Us cohort to analyze the association between AD and COVID-19. Comorbidities and risk factors were compared between cases and controls using multivariable analyses. RESULTS In a cohort of 11,752 AD cases with 47,008 matched controls, AD patients were more likely to have a COVID-19 diagnosis (4.2% vs 2.8%, P < .001). AD remained significantly associated with COVID-19 in multivariable analysis (odds ratio, 1.29; P < .001) after adjusting for demographic factors and comorbidities. LIMITATIONS Ascertainment of AD and COVID-19 cases using electronic health records and lack of clinical data on AD severity or therapy and COVID-19 outcomes. CONCLUSION AD is associated with increased odds of COVID-19 infection even after controlling for common comorbidities.

Abstract
The effect of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on patients receiving conventional immunosuppressive (IS) therapy has yet to be fully determined; however, research on using IS therapy for treating COVID-19 in acutely ill patients is increasing. While some believe that IS therapy may be protective, others argue that these agents may make patients more susceptible to COVID-19 infection and morbidity and advocate for a more cautious, individualized approach to determining continuation, reduction, or discontinuation of therapy. In this review, we aim to provide an overview of COVID-19 risk in dermatological patients who are receiving conventional IS therapies, including mycophenolate mofetil, methotrexate, cyclosporine, azathioprine, apremilast, JAK inhibitors, and systemic steroids. Additionally, we provide recommendations for management of these medications for dermatological patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Treatment of dermatological disease during the COVID-19 pandemic should involve shared decision-making between the patient and provider, with consideration of each patient's comorbidities and the severity of the patient's dermatological disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND TREATgermany, a registry for patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD), established an additional questionnaire in spring 2020 to investigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the daily life of patients with AD. MATERIAL AND METHODS A questionnaire was used to analyze general information regarding a patient's experience of the coronavirus pandemic and, using the Inventory of Life-Changing Events, the resulting personal burden. To analyze possible associations between disease severity (EASI score, oSCORAD, IGA, PGA, POEM), quality of life (DLQI) and personal burden, t-tests, analyses of variance and correlations were evaluated, controlled for sex and age. RESULTS 58 % (n = 233) of the included 400 registry patients reported high burden scores caused by the coronavirus pandemic, regardless of an actual infection. Men showed significantly higher burden scores than women, and younger than older respondents (both P = 0.03). There were no differences in burden scores related to the physician's assessment of disease severity. However, patients with higher quality of life impairments and higher disease severity perceived the burden of the coronavirus pandemic as less severe (DLQI P = 0.019, PGA P = 0.044). CONCLUSIONS Our data show that registry patients considered the coronavirus pandemic as a life-changing event and perceived the burden differently. This should be taken into account in the treatment of patients with moderate to severe AD as well as in further studies.

Abstract
To protect against COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 vaccines have been widely used. Besides anaphylaxis, some less severe adverse effects may occur at higher frequencies. It remains unclear whether present or past histories of allergic diseases exert effects on local and systemic reactions. We conducted a questionnaire survey among workers in our hospital. We analyzed the adverse effects occurring after the first and second doses of the Pfizer–BioNTech vaccine in 955 subjects. The presence or absence of local injection reactions and systemic reactions (headache, fatigability, fever, muscle pain, and joint pain) was questioned. The intensities of these reactions were graded on a scale of 0–4 (except fever) or 0–2 (fever). The allergic diseases that we focused on were bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, food allergy, pollinosis, and hand eczema. For the systemic reactions, fatigability after the first dose tended to be more severe in the bronchial asthma than in the non-allergic group. Headache, joint pain, and fever tended to be more severe in the food allergy than in the non-allergic group after the second dose. For the local skin reactions, atopic dermatitis subjects tended to show rather less severe local skin reactions after the second dose. The results contribute to the guidelines for the care of individuals with different allergy histories, so that they may safely receive their vaccine.

Abstract
Since the first report of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in December 2019, over 100 million people have been infected by COVID-19, millions of whom have died. In the latest year, a large number of omics data have sprung up and helped researchers broadly study the sequence, chemical structure and function of SARS-CoV-2, as well as molecular abnormal mechanisms of COVID-19 patients. Though some successes have been achieved in these areas, it is necessary to analyze and mine omics data for comprehensively understanding SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. Hence, we reviewed the current advantages and limitations of the integration of omics data herein. Firstly, we sorted out the sequence resources and database resources of SARS-CoV-2, including protein chemical structure, potential drug information and research literature resources. Next, we collected omics data of the COVID-19 hosts, including genomics, transcriptomics, microbiology and potential drug information data. And subsequently, based on the integration of omics data, we summarized the existing data analysis methods and the related research results of COVID-19 multi-omics data in recent years. Finally, we put forward SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) multi-omics data integration research direction and gave a case study to mine deeper for the disease mechanisms of COVID-19.

Abstract
More than 12 months have passed since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19), caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus, to be a pandemic on 11 March 2020. The entire world scientific community agrees that at this time vaccine is the most promising weapon to combat the infection and the severity of the disease. According to the document “Draft landscape of COVID-19 candidate vaccines” by WHO, 272 vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 virus are in development, although only four of these, produced by Pfizer-BioNTech (Pfizer, Inc. and BioNTech), Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Janssen companies, respectively, have been approved by European Medicines Agency and Italian Medicines Agency and subsequently distributed nationwide for use. These vaccines are the result of highly innovative procedures and are quite different from each other in terms of composition. Even clinicians in various medical fields may be unfamiliar with the effects of these vaccines. There is the strong emerging need for dermatologists to understand the crucial role of vaccines, with a focus on the need to vaccinate patients suffering from immune-mediated skin diseases, such as psoriasis, while taking the ongoing treatment into consideration regarding the timing of vaccination. Similarly, psoriasis patients aware of having an immune-mediated and inflammatory disease are increasingly asking the dermatologist information about the efficacy and safety of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 virus. In this narrative review of the literature and critical analysis of the recommendations of the Italian Ministry of Health, we analyze the implications of the vaccination campaign on dermatological patients with psoriasis undergoing immunosuppressive treatment.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2). The ongoing COVID‐19 pandemic has affected both daily life and medical care; therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the use of biologics for inflammatory skin diseases during the COVID‐19 pandemic in our hospital. The observation period was between 1 January 2020 and 23 February 2021. In this study, we enrolled 227 patients with psoriasis, six patients with palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP), 69 patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), and five patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Bioswitch was performed in 25 patients with psoriasis (11.0%). Biologics were discontinued in 14 patients with psoriasis (6.2%), 10 patients with AD (14.5%), and four patients with HS (80.0%); they were not discontinued in patients with PPP. The introduction of biologics was observed in 27 patients with psoriasis (11.9%), four patients with PPP (66.7%), 33 patients with AD (47.8%), and two patients with HS (40.0%). The use of telephone consultations was observed in four patients with psoriasis and two patients with AD. One patient, who received adalimumab for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis, suffered from COVID‐19 and recovered after a mild course. In conclusion, we report our experience regarding the use of biologic drugs for inflammatory skin diseases. The use of biologics seemed safe for use amidst COVID‐19 infection during the observation period; however, further observation on a larger number of patients is required to confirm the risks and benefits of biologic use in the COVID‐19 era.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis is characterized by immune dysregulation, which may predispose toward worse COVID-19 outcomes. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to investigate the relationship of atopic dermatitis with COVID-19 symptom severity, hospitalization, length of hospital stay, requirement for oxygen therapy, long-term morbidity and mortality. Multivariable logistic regression models were constructed to examine the impact of atopic dermatitis (independent variable) on COVID-19 symptom severity, hospitalization, length of hospital stay, requirement for oxygen therapy, long-term morbidity and mortality (dependent variables). SARS-CoV-2 positive adult patients with diagnosed AD had similar odds of hospitalization (adjusted odds ratio [95% confidence interval]: 0.51 [0.20–1.35]), acute level of care at initial medical care (0.67 [0.35–1.30]), severe-critical SARS-CoV-2 (0.82 [0.29–2.30]), requirement of supplemental non-mechanical oxygen therapy (1.33 [0.50–3.58]), extended hospital stay (2.24 [0.36–13.85]), lingering COVID-19 symptoms (0.58 [0.06–5.31]) and COVID-19 death (0.002 [< 0.001– > 999]) compared to patients without AD. Our findings suggest AD is not an independent risk factor for COVID-19 severity or complications.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disease that predominantly affects the skin and joints. The recent therapeutic development for psoriasis has been remarkable and biologics have dramatically changed the treatment of psoriasis. In moderate-to-severe cases, systemic therapies are required to control their symptoms and biologics can provide greater efficacy when compared with other types of therapies. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has had a great impact on the lives of many people and has worsened substantially worldwide. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it still remains unclear whether biologics suppress the immune system and increase the risk of COVID-19. In this review, we have summarized the experience with biologics used for treating psoriasis during the COVID-19 pandemic. Biologics seem to be beneficial to COVID-19 infection. Shared decision-making that is based on updated information is highlighted in the time of COVID-19.
