Abstract
Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mood disorder affecting one in seven women after childbirth that is often under-screened and under-detected. If not diagnosed and treated, PPD is associated with long-term developmental challenges in the child and maternal morbidity. Wearable technologies, such as smartwatches and fitness trackers (e.g., Fitbit), offer continuous and longitudinal digital phenotyping for mood disorder diagnosis and monitoring, with device wear time being an important yet understudied aspect. Using the All of Us Research Program (AoURP) dataset, we assessed the percentage of days women with PPD wore Fitbit devices across pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, postpartum, and PPD periods, as determined by electronic health records. Wear time was compared in women with and without PPD using linear regression models. Results showed a strong trend that women in the PPD cohort wore their Fitbits more those without PPD during the postpartum (PPD: mean=72.9%, SE=13.8%; non-PPD: mean=58.9%, SE=12.2%, P-value=0.09) and PPD time periods (PPD: mean=70.7%, SE=14.5%; non-PPD: mean=55.6%, SE=12.9%, P-value=0.08). We hypothesize this may be attributed to hypervigilance, given the common co-occurrence of anxiety symptoms among women with PPD. Future studies should assess the link between PPD, hypervigilance, and wear time patterns. We envision that device wear patterns with digital biomarkers like sleep and physical activity could enhance early PPD detection using machine learning by alerting clinicians to potential concerns facilitating timely screenings, which may have implications for other mental health disorders.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to assess the trajectory of women's depressive symptoms during the first six months postpartum, identify risk factors (sociodemographic, obstetric and personality) associated with classes, and examine associations between classes and postpartum PTSD at two months and bonding at six months. METHODS The final sample included 212 women who gave birth in the maternity wards of a large tertiary health center that were approached at 1-3 days, two months, and six months postpartum and completed a demographic questionnaire and measures of neuroticism (BFI) and postpartum depression (EPDS), postpartum PTSD (City Birth Trauma Scale) and bonding (PBQ). Obstetric data were taken from the medical files. RESULTS Cluster analysis revealed three distinctive clusters: "stable-low" (64.2%), "transient-decreasing" (25.9%), and "stable-high" (9.9%). Neuroticism, general-related PTSD symptoms, and bonding were associated with differences between all trajectories. Birth-related PTSD symptoms were associated with differences between both stable-high and transient-decreasing trajectories and the stable-low trajectory. No obstetric or demographic variables were associated with differences between trajectories. CONCLUSION We suggest that screening women for vulnerabilities such as high levels of neuroticism and offering treatment can alleviate the possible deleterious effects of high-symptom depression trajectories that may be associated with their vulnerability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postpartum women experience an array of psychological symptoms that are associated with adverse health behaviors and outcomes including postpartum suicidal ideation and long-term depression. To provide early management of postpartum psychological symptoms, it is important to understand how the symptom experiences change over time. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine maternal psychological symptom trajectories over 2, 6, 15, and 24 months postpartum using latent class growth analysis and to examine how each trajectory is associated with maternal depression outcome at 24 months. METHODS We used secondary data from the Family Life Project ( N = 1,122) and performed multitrajectory latent class growth analysis based on four observed symptom variables (depression, anxiety, somatization, and hostility). After the final model was identified, bivariate analyses were conducted to examine the association between each trajectory and (a) individual characteristics and (b) outcome (Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale [CES-D]) variables. RESULTS A four-class model was selected for the final model because it had better fit indices, entropy, and interpretability. The four symptom trajectories were (a) no symptoms over 24 months, (b) low symptoms over 24 months, (c) moderate symptoms increasing over 15 months, and (d) high symptoms increasing over 24 months. More postpartum women with the trajectory of high symptoms increasing over 24 months (Trajectory 4) were in low economic status (92.16%), unemployed (68.63%), or did not complete 4-year college education (98.04%). Most postpartum women (95.56%) in Trajectory 4 also had higher CES-D cutoff scores, indicating a possible clinical depression at 24 months postpartum. DISCUSSION Postpartum women who experience increasing symptom trajectories over 15-24 months (Trajectories 3 and 4) could benefit from tailored symptom management interventions provided earlier in the postpartum period to prevent persistent and worsening symptom experiences.

Abstract
To identify subgroups of postpartum women with different psychological symptom profiles at 2 and 6 months postpartum and to examine how they transition between symptom profiles over time using latent transition analysis (LTA). We used secondary data from the Family Life Project (N = 1,117) and performed LTA based on observed variables (depression, anxiety, somatization, and hostility). We examined transition probabilities and changes in latent status prevalence from 2 to 6 months postpartum. Considering the known influences of social determinants of health on psychological symptoms, bivariate analyses were conducted to describe the characteristics of different transition patterns. A 3-class model with better fit indices, entropy, and interpretability was selected. Based on symptom severity, the identified profiles were Profile 1: Low, Profile 2: Moderate, and Profile 3: High. From 2 to 6 months postpartum, the prevalence of low symptom profile decreased (82 to 78.2%) while the prevalence increased for moderate (15.8 to 17.5%) and high symptom profiles (2.2 to 4.4%). For all profiles, it was most likely for postpartum women to stay in the same profile from 2 to 6 months (low to low, moderate to moderate, and high to high). Those in persistent or worsening transition patterns were significantly younger or had less social support or education. Postpartum women in moderate or high symptom profiles at 2 months were most likely to stay in the same profile at 6 months postpartum, indicating persistent symptom burden. Clinicians should consider providing early, targeted support to prevent persistent symptom burden.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Perinatal depression is a common and undertreated condition, with potential deleterious effects on maternal, obstetric, infant, and child outcomes. We aimed to compare the effectiveness of two systems-level interventions in the obstetric setting-the Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program (MCPAP) for Moms and the PRogram In Support of Moms (PRISM)-in improving depression symptoms and participation in mental health treatment among women with perinatal depression. METHODS In this cluster-randomised, active-controlled trial, obstetric practices across Massachusetts (USA) were allocated (1:1) via covariate adaptive randomisation to either continue participating in the MCPAP for Moms intervention, a state-wide, population-based programme, or to participate in the PRISM intervention, which involved MCPAP for Moms plus a proactive, multifaceted, obstetric practice-level intervention with intensive implementation support. English-speaking women (aged ≥18 years) who screened positive for depression (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale [EPDS] score ≥10) were recruited from the practices. Patients were followed up at 4-25 weeks of gestation, 32-40 weeks of gestation, 0-3 months postpartum, 5-7 months postpartum, and 11-13 months postpartum via telephone interview. Participants were masked to the intervention; investigators were not masked. The primary outcome was change in depression symptoms (EPDS score) between baseline assessment and 11-13 months postpartum. Analysis was done by intention to treat, fitting generalised linear mixed models adjusting for age, insurance status, education, and race, and accounting for clustering of patients within practices. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02760004. FINDINGS Between July 29, 2015, and Sept 20, 2021, ten obstetric practices were recruited and retained; five (50%) practices were randomly allocated to MCPAP for Moms and five (50%) to PRISM. 1265 participants were assessed for eligibility and 312 (24·7%) were recruited, of whom 162 (51·9%) were enrolled in MCPAP for Moms practices and 150 (48·1%) in PRISM practices. Comparing baseline to 11-13 months postpartum, EPDS scores decreased by 4·2 (SD 5·2; p<0·0001) among participants in MCPAP for Moms practices and by 4·3 (SD 4.5; p<0·0001) among those in PRISM practices (estimated difference between groups 0·1 [95% CI -1·2 to 1·4]; p=0·87). INTERPRETATION Both the MCPAP for Moms and PRISM interventions were equally effective in improving depression symptoms. This finding is important because the 4-point decrease in EPDS score is clinically significant, and MCPAP for Moms has a lower intensity and greater population-based reach than does PRISM. Abstract
Perinatal depression (PND) is a significant contributor to maternal morbidity globally. Recognized as a major cause of poor infant development, epidemiological and interventional research on it has increased over the last decade. Recently, studies have pointed out that PND is a heterogeneous condition, with variability in its phenotypes, rather than a homogenous latent entity and a concrete diagnosis, as previously conceptualized in psychometric literature and diagnostic systems. Therefore, it is pertinent that researchers recognize this to progress in elucidating its aetiology and developing efficacious interventions.This systematic review is conducted in accordance with the Meta-analysis of observational studies in epidemiology (MOOSE). It aims to provide an updated and comprehensive account of research on heterogeneity in phenotypes of PND and its implications in research, public health, and clinical practice. It provides a synthesis and quality assessment of studies reporting heterogeneity in PND using cutting-edge statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms. After reporting the phenotypes of PND, based on heterogeneous trajectories and symptom profiles, it also elucidates the risk factors associated with severe forms of PND, followed by robust evidence for adverse child outcomes. Furthermore, recommendations are made to improve public health and clinical practice in screening, diagnosis, and treatment of PND.

Abstract
This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of behavioral sleep interventions (BSIs) on the number of child night awakenings, and maternal sleep quality and depression. The search followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines (PRISMA) using PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane, and EMBASE databases and retrieved studies published until April 2021. We calculated the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for child sleep problems, and the mean differences (MD) and 95% CI for the number of child night awakenings, and maternal sleep quality and depression. Ten studies of 1628 initial searched were included in the final analysis. Two of the 10 studies were divided into two subgroups by participants and intervention type; thus, 12 subgroups were included in the meta-analysis. BSIs significantly reduced child sleep problems (OR 0.51; 95% CI 0.37-0.69) and improved maternal sleep quality (MD - 1.30; 95% CI - 1.82 to - 0.77) in the intervention group. There were no significant differences in the number of child night awakenings and maternal depression between the two groups. More RCTs to examine the effect of BSIs considering children's age, duration of intervention, and outcome measuring time points are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Preterm birth has been recognized as a risk factor for perinatal depression (PND), with consequences for parenting and child development; however, the impact of severity of prematurity on parental PND course has not been studied extensively. Exploring the PND trajectory across postpartum period, investigating whether it changed according to birth weight and parental role, can help developing effective interventions. METHODS At 3 (T1), 9 (T2) and 12 (T3) months postpartum, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was administered to 177 parental couples, differentiated in 38 parents of extremely low birth weight (ELBW), 56 of very low birth weight (VLBW) and 83 of full-term (FT) infants. Trajectories were modeled by Growth Curve Models. RESULTS As a function of time, results revealed a general decrease in PND across the year. Considering birth weight, ELBW parents showed higher PND levels at T1 and a higher reduction of symptoms over time than VLBW and FT ones. Given also parental role, ELBW mothers showed higher PND levels at T1 and a higher decrease of symptoms over time than VLBW and FT mothers and fathers. LIMITATIONS Limitations included modest sample size, self-report measures, and unmeasured potential confounders. CONCLUSION Findings suggest that premature birth in relation to its severity may lead to different affective reactions in mothers and fathers; particularly mothers, in case of more serious preterm condition, are at higher risk for PND in the first trimester, however showing improvement over time. Interventions should be promoted, and tailored, according to the risk connected to severity of prematurity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Current research on perinatal depression rarely pays attention to the continuity and volatility of depression symptoms over time, which is very important for the early prediction and prognostic evaluation of perinatal depression. This study investigated the trajectories of perinatal depression symptoms and aimed to explore the factors related to these trajectories. METHODS The study recruited 550 women during late pregnancy (32 ± 4 weeks of gestation) and followed them up 1 and 6 weeks postpartum. Depressive symptoms were measured using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Latent growth mixture modelling (LGMM) was used to identify trajectories of depressive symptoms during pregnancy. RESULTS Two trajectories of perinatal depressive symptoms were identified: "decreasing" (n = 524, 95.3%) and "increasing" (n = 26, 4.7%). History of smoking, alcohol use and gestational hypertension increased the chance of belonging to the increasing trajectories, and a high level of social support was a protective factor for maintaining a decreasing trajectory. CONCLUSIONS This study identified two trajectories of perinatal depression and the factors associated with each trajectory. Paying attention to these factors and providing necessary psychological support services during pregnancy would effectively reduce the incidence of perinatal depression and improve patient prognosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Perinatal (antenatal and postpartum) depression impacts approximately 12% of mothers. Perinatal depression can impact everyday functioning for mothers, and the relationship with, and development of, their children. The purpose of this study was to investigate depression trajectories from the antenatal period through 54-months postpartum and associations with child body mass index at 54-months postpartum. METHODS This study applied latent growth modeling to the Growing Up in New Zealand study, which is a longitudinal pregnancy cohort study that provides nationally representative-level data, to investigate associations between depression at three time points (antenatal, 9-months postpartum, 54-months postpartum) and child body mass index at 54-months (n=4897). RESULTS The average slope of depression for this sample is low and decreases over time. When child BMI was added to the model as an outcome variable, both antenatal depression (B=.25, p<.01), and the rate of change of depression across the perinatal and postpartum periods (B=.09, p<.01) were associated with child BMI at 54-months postpartum. After controlling for sociodemographic characteristics, antenatal depression, but not the slope of depression, remained significantly associated with child BMI (B=.05, p<.05). When controlling for maternal pre-pregnancy BMI the effect of antenatal depression on child BMI at 54-months was entirely attenuated (χ2 (9) = 39.60, p < .05, SRMR = 0.01, CFI = .99, RMSEA = 0.03, BIC=53213). CONCLUSIONS Our findings align with the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease theory and imply that both the physical and mental health of mothers during pregnancy may be important indicators of child growth and development outcomes. Early intervention directed towards women who have even mild depression scores during pregnancy may promote healthy child development outcomes. Additionally, given the heterogeneity of depressive symptoms over time seen in this study, multiple assessment periods across the postpartum period may be valuable to adequately address and support maternal mental health.

Abstract
This study examined the typology of depressed mood trajectories and the associated factors over the first year postpartum among Taiwanese mothers. Data of 4332 mothers from a nationwide longitudinal study on child development and care were analyzed. Three classes of depressed mood trajectories were identified, two with lower initial scores and a decreasing trajectory and one with a higher initial score and an increasing trajectory. Subjective financial stress, perceived support, and marital satisfaction were significant in predicting mothers' membership of the depressed mood trajectory classes. The results highlighted the individual susceptibility to the postpartum depressed mood among Taiwanese mothers.

Abstract
Nearly 20% of women in the United States experience clinically significant depressive symptoms during pregnancy or the postpartum period. These women may benefit from easily accessible, nonpharmacologic, and inexpensive self-management approaches, such as via internet and mobile-based interventions, to prevent development of symptoms and/or intervene with current symptoms. This paper summarizes the research protocol of a nationally-funded large-scale randomized controlled study to evaluate "Mamma Mia," a self-guided program with 44 modules that women use throughout pregnancy to 6 months postpartum. The program contains a novel combination of components designed to enable women to enhance self-efficacy, emotional self-regulation, and perceived social support. The overall goal of this three-arm longitudinal randomized controlled trial is to evaluate the effects and mechanisms of this self-management approach in diverse women in the U.S. (n = 1950). Enrolled pregnant women will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: (1) "Mamma Mia" alone, which is self-guided; (2) "Mamma Mia Plus" in which participants engage in the "Mamma Mia" modules plus receive brief guided support from a registered nurse; or (3) usual prenatal/postpartum care. The first specific aim is to evaluate effects by group on the primary outcome of interest, depressive symptoms, over time. The second aim is to evaluate effects by group on subjective well-being, anxiety, and stress. Using a conceptual framework based upon Individual and Family Self-Management Theory, the third aim is to evaluate possible mediators (self-efficacy, emotion self-regulation, perceived support) and possible moderators (e.g., race/ethnicity, type of healthcare clinician) of this self-management approach.

Abstract
Depressive symptoms during and after pregnancy confer risks for adverse outcomes in both the mother and child. Postpartum depression is traditionally diagnosed after birth of the child. Perinatal depression is a serious, prevalent heterogeneous syndrome that can occur during the period from conception through several months after childbirth. Onset and course are not well understood. There is a paucity of longitudinal studies of the disorder that include the antenatal period in population-based samples. We used an Internet panel of pregnant women recruited in 2 cohorts; 858 ascertained in the first and 322 ascertained in the third trimesters of pregnancy. We recruited the second cohort in order to assure sufficient sample to examine depressive symptoms later in pregnancy and in the postpartum period. Assessments included standard psychometric measures, health history, and pregnancy experience. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale was used for the assessment of depressive symptoms. Nearly 10% of women entered the pregnancy with depressive symptoms. Prevalence was about the same at 4 weeks and 3 months postpartum. During pregnancy, prevalence increased to 16% in the third trimester. Among incident cases, 80% occurred during pregnancy, with 1/3 occurring in the first trimester. We describe predictors of incident depressive symptoms and covariates associated with time-to-onset which include health history (psychiatric and medical) and social support covariates. The majority of incident depressive symptoms occur during pregnancy rather than afterward. This finding underscores the mandate for mental health screening early in pregnancy and throughout gestation. It will be important to find safe and effective interventions that prevent, mitigate, or delay the onset of depressive symptoms that can be implemented during pregnancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Longitudinal perinatal depression (PND) data is sparsely available in the Indian population. We have employed Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) to assess the prevalence and identify characteristics associated with PND in the south Indian population. PND was assessed longitudinally using EPDS scores with traditional cut-off approach as well as a novel method of latent class mixture modeling (LCMM). The LCMM method, to the best of our knowledge, has been used for the first time in the Indian population. METHODS Three hundred and forty seven women, predominantly from economically-weaker sections of rural and urban South India were longitudinally assessed for antenatal depression (AD) and postnatal depression (PD) using EPDS cutoff-scores ≥13 and ≥10, respectively. Uni/multivariable analyses were used to identify PND associated characteristics. LCMM was then implemented, followed by risk characteristics identification. RESULTS PND prevalence from traditional approach was 24.50 % (12.68 % AD; 18.16% PD). Characteristics associated with PND were urban-site and recent adverse life events. Irregular menstrual history and chronic health issues were associated with AD and PD, respectively. Three distinct PND trajectories were observed from LCMM-analysis: low-risk (76.08%), medium-risk (19.89%) and high-risk (4.04%). Urban-site, recent adverse life events, irregular menstrual history and pregnancy complications were associated with medium-risk/high-risk trajectories. LIMITATIONS EPDS is a screening tool and not a diagnostic tool for depression. Since the study population included women from economically-weaker sections, the results need verification in other socio-economic groups. CONCLUSIONS Both the traditional cut-off-based approach and LCMM provided very similar conclusions regarding the prevalence of PND and characteristics associated with it. Higher PND prevalence was observed in urban women compared to rural women. In low-income countries, identifying risk characteristics associated with PND is a critical component in designing prevention strategies for PND related conditions because of the limited access to mental health resources.

Abstract
Abstract. AIMS Intimate partner violence (IPV) is an important risk factor for perinatal depression (PND). But IPV's impact on the natural prognosis of PND symptoms is not well understood. We tested two hypotheses: (1) pregnant women with IPV experiences will exhibit more severe PND symptoms than women without IPV experience; (2) IPV experience will impede the recovery prognosis of PND. We also explored the contribution of IPV to PND comparing with other risk factors. METHOD The sample is comprised of 813 pregnant women followed through perinatal period in Hunan, China. We assessed IPV experience using items from the Short Form of the Revised Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS2S), and PND symptoms via the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPSD). We conducted Linear Mixed-effects Model to compare the trajectories of PND symptoms between victims and non-victims and a multistage Generalised Estimating Equations Model to explore salient factors on the trajectory of PND symptoms. RESULTS There were 90 participants (11.07%) who reported IPV experience in the past 12 months. With respect to physical, psychological and sexual violence, the prevalence was 4.55% (37/813), 9.23% (75/813) and 2.34% (19/813). Victims reported more severe PND symptoms (t = 5.30, p < 0.01) and slower decreasing slope of trajectories (t = 28.89, p < 0.01). The PND trajectory was associated with IPV experience (OR = 3.78; 95% CI 1.39-10.26), social support (OR = 0.93; 95% CI 0.88-0.97), positive coping strategies (OR = 0.85; 95% CI 0.80-0.91), negative coping strategies (OR = 1.25; 95% CI 1.14-1.37) and monthly income of $0.15-$298.36 (compared to no income, OR = 0.0075; 95% CI 0.00052-0.11). CONCLUSIONS The findings suggest the reported prevalence of IPV is lower in Hunan than most of the previous studies during perinatal period in other provinces of China, and IPV victimisation is associated with increased severity and slowed prognosis of PND symptoms. Future studies that screen for victimisation and establish its explicit mechanism to the poorer prognosis of PND symptoms would benefit the prevention and treatment of PND.

Abstract
In contrast to the large body of research on maternal perinatal depression, paternal perinatal mental health has received little attention; and longitudinal studies on paternal perinatal depression, following (expectant) fathers over time, are exceedingly rare. This population-based study aimed to (1) estimate prevalence rates of perinatal depression symptoms among German (expectant) fathers, (2) identify differential profiles of perinatal depression in (expectant) fathers, (3) determine modifiable predictors of latent depression profiles, and (4) estimate how membership in subgroups changes during the perinatal period. Data were derived from the longitudinal cohort study DREAM (Dresden Study on Parenting, Work, and Mental Health), including 1,027 (expectant) fathers responding to the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) during pregnancy and 8 weeks postpartum. Unobserved profiles of paternal perinatal depression and movement between profiles were investigated using latent transition analysis. A number of potential predictors with regard to lifestyle and current life situation were included as covariates. We found that rates of paternal depression symptoms decreased with 9% during pregnancy to 5% at 8 weeks postpartum. Further, four latent depression profiles emerged: most (expectant) fathers did not exhibit any depression symptoms (not depressed), whereas some reported mainly the absence of joy (anhedonic) and some experienced mainly self-blame and worries (anxious-worried). The depressive profile was characterized by endorsement to most symptoms of perinatal depression. Perceived social support and relationship satisfaction appeared to be protective against paternal depression symptoms. Differential transitioning or stability patterns in profile membership during the perinatal period were found, whereas the depressive profile showed to be the least stable. This prospective population-based cohort study is the first study to identify paternal perinatal depression profiles together with their predictors and changes during the perinatal period. Future research is warranted to examine whether the identified paternal depression profiles have differential outcomes, particularly in the context of person-centered prevention and intervention strategies. Further, longitudinal trajectories of paternal depression ought to be studied, taking into account additional measurement points as well as modifiable risk factors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study investigated trajectories of mothers' and fathers' depressive symptoms from prenatal to 24 months postpartum. Prenatal correlates of the trajectories were also examined. METHODS Mothers (N = 1670) and fathers (N = 1604) from the Finnish CHILD-SLEEP birth cohort, reported depressive symptoms at 32nd pregnancy week and 3, 8, and 24 months postpartum using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D, 10-item). Profile analysis was used to group participants according to their longitudinal patterns of depressive symptoms. Prenatal predictors (sociodemographic, health, substance use, sleep, and stress related factors, family atmosphere) of depressive symptom trajectories as well as association between parents' trajectories were analyzed using multinomial logistic regression. RESULTS For both mothers and fathers, a solution with three stable depressive symptom trajectories (low: 63.1% mothers and 74.9% fathers; moderate: 28.1% and 22.6%; high: 8.8% and 2.6%) was considered the best fitting and most informative. Insomnia, earlier depression, anxiousness, stressfulness, and poor family atmosphere predicted the moderate and high (compared to low) depressive symptom trajectories among both mothers and fathers in multivariate analyses. Mother's higher depressive symptom trajectory was significantly associated with father's higher symptom trajectory (p < 0.001). LIMITATIONS Number of cases in the high depressive symptom trajectory group among fathers was low. CONCLUSIONS Maternal and paternal depressive symptom trajectories from prenatal period up to two years postpartum seem stable, indicating the chronic nature of perinatal depressive symptoms. Mothers' and fathers' trajectories are associated with each other and their strongest predictors are common to both.
