Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep problems are common in adults with ADHD and may be bidirectionally associated with ADHD severity and other psychiatric symptoms. We investigated the prevalence of positive screenings for various sleep disorders, and their association with psychiatric comorbidities in a large sample of adults with ADHD from a specialized outpatient clinic. METHODS We included data of 3,691 adult patients diagnosed with ADHD, who had filled out a screener for sleep disorders (Holland Sleep Disorders Questionnaire (HSDQ)) as part of routine diagnostic assessment. The HSDQ screens for the sleep disorders insomnia, parasomnia, hypersomnia, circadian rhythm sleep disorders (CRSD), restless legs syndrome (RLS)/periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD), and sleep-related breathing disorders (SBD). As delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS) is very frequent in ADHD, we additionally screened for DSPS. Psychiatric comorbidities were diagnosed through clinical assessment and the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.) Plus, which assesses 26 psychiatric disorders following the classification of the DSM-5. All data were retrieved from the electronic patient files. RESULTS Mean age was 35.4 and 49.4% of the patients were female. About 60% of the adults with ADHD screened positive for any sleep disorder. Highest prevalences were found for symptoms of DSPS (36%), insomnia (30%), and RLS/PLMD (29%). Sleep problems in adults with ADHD were associated with comorbid depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, personality disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. CONCLUSION Adults with ADHD often report sleep problems, which are associated with specific psychiatric comorbidities. Systematic screening for sleep disorders in adult patients with ADHD can contribute to a better understanding of their complaints and may aid improved and integrated treatment for the sleep and psychiatric problems.

Abstract
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition marked by inattention and impulsivity, linked to disruptions in functional brain connectivity and structural alterations in large-scale brain networks. Although sensory pathway anomalies have been implicated in ADHD, the exploration of sensory integration regions remains limited. In this study, we adopted an exploratory approach to investigate the connectivity profile of auditory-visual integration networks (AVIN) in children with ADHD and neurotypical controls using the ADHD-200 rs-fMRI dataset. We expanded our exploration beyond network-based statistics (NBS) by extracting a diverse range of graph theoretical features. These features formed the basis for applying machine learning (ML) techniques to discern distinguishing patterns between the control group and children with ADHD. To address class imbalance and sample heterogeneity, we employed ensemble learning models, including balanced random forest (BRF), XGBoost, and EasyEnsemble classifier (EEC). Our findings revealed significant differences in AVIN between ADHD individuals and neurotypical controls, enabling automated diagnosis with moderate accuracy (74.30%). Notably, the EEC model demonstrated balanced sensitivity and specificity metrics, crucial for diagnostic applications, offering valuable insights for potential clinical use. These results contribute to understanding ADHD's neural underpinnings and highlight the diagnostic potential of AVIN measures. However, the exploratory nature of this study underscores the need for future research to confirm and refine these findings with specific hypotheses and rigorous statistical controls.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Literature emphasises the importance of identifying and intervening in the adoption of unhealthy lifestyle behaviours (ULBs) during adolescence at an early stage, to mitigate their long-term detrimental effects. Among the possible associated factors contributing to ULBs, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been shown to play an important role. However, little is known about ADHD subclinical manifestations. AIMS The present study aimed to bridge the gap in the literature and shed light on the relationship between subclinical ADHD and early adoption of ULBs during adolescence. Through a clinimetric approach, prevalence of ULBs, severity of ADHD symptoms and psychosocial factors (i.e. allostatic overload, abnormal illness behaviour, quality of life, psychological well-being) were investigated among adolescents. The associations between different degrees of ADHD, ULBs and psychosocial factors were also explored. METHOD This multicentre cross-sectional study involved 440 adolescents (54.5% females; mean age 14.21 years) from six upper secondary schools. Participants completed self-report questionnaires on sociodemographic characteristics, ULBs, ADHD symptoms and psychosocial factors. RESULTS The most common ULBs were energy drinks/alcohol consumption and problematic smartphone use. Of the sample, 22% showed subclinical ADHD and 20.2% showed clinical ADHD. The subclinical ADHD group showed several ULBs (i.e. altered mindful eating, impaired quality of sleep, problematic technology use) and psychosocial factors, akin to those of ADHD group and different from peers without ADHD symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Since subclinical ADHD manifestation is associated with ULBs, similarly to clinical ADHD, identifying subthreshold symptoms during adolescence is crucial, as it could improve health-related outcomes in adulthood across different domains.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a childhood-onset neurodevelopmental condition characterised by inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity. The ADHD symptoms are often evaluated and quantified using various assessment tools, such as the Conners' Continuous Performance Test II (CCPT-II), ADHD Rating Scale (ADHD-RS), Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL), Clinical Global Assessment Scale (CGAS) and Clinical Global Impression Scale (CGIS). This study sought to compare CCPT-II with parent- and clinician-rated rating scales (ADHD-RS, CBCL, CGAS and CGIS) in measuring the core ADHD symptoms within the paediatric ADHD population. METHODS The data, gathered from a large-scale randomised controlled trial involving 172 children aged 6-12 years with ADHD, was pooled, and a Pearson correlation analysis was conducted. RESULTS No significant correlations were observed between CCPT-II and ADHD-RS, as well as the various subscales of CBCL, CGAS and CGIS. CONCLUSION While CCPT-II may offer insights into ADHD symptomatology, its relationship with parent- and clinician-rated rating scales such as ADHD-RS, CBCL, CGAS and CGIS appears limited. Further research is warranted to elucidate the nuances of these assessment tools and their roles in evaluating ADHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Early detection of developmental problems is important as it allows for early intervention. Previous studies, in high-risk infants, found high predictive values of atypical scores on the Standardized Infant NeuroDevelopmental Assessment (SINDA) for later neurodevelopmental disorders (i.e., cerebral palsy, intellectual disability). AIMS The present study explored SINDA's predictive values to identify risk of developmental delay at 4-5 years. STUDY DESIGN Cohort study. SUBJECTS 786 low-risk Dutch children (367 boys; median gestational age: 40 (27-42) weeks; mean birth weight: 3455 (SD 577) grams). OUTCOME MEASURES The SINDA was assessed at 2-12 months and risk of developmental delay was assessed using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) at 4-5 years. SINDA's predictive values were determined for five ASQ domains and the total ASQ score for children at risk of marked (all ASQ domains deviant) and any (one or more ASQ domains deviant) developmental delay. RESULTS Presence of one atypical SINDA scale score showed low to moderate sensitivities (12-88 %, depending on the SINDA scale and ASQ domain involved), moderate to high specificities (66-94 %), low positive predictive values (PPVs; 3-16 %), and high negative predictive values (NPVs; 95-100 %) for children at risk of marked and any developmental. Presence of multiple atypical SINDA scale scores predicted deviant ASQ domains slightly better (sensitivities = 11-62 %, specificities = 90-98 %, PPVs = 6-30 %, and NPVs = 95-100 %). CONCLUSIONS In low-risk infants, SINDA's predictive value is low for detecting children at risk of marked and any developmental delay at 4-5 years, as reflected by the low sensitivities. One of the explanations is the relatively low prevalence of developmental delay in low-risk populations. This might have consequences for the application of the SINDA in general healthcare settings (e.g. child health clinics), but further studies are needed to draw this conclusion.

Abstract
To investigate the association of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with the 48-base pair (bp) variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) in exon 3 of the dopamine receptor D4 (DRD4) gene, we genotyped 240 ADHD patients and their parents from Hong Kong. The 4R allele was most common, followed by 2R. We examined association between the 2R allele (relative to 4R) and ADHD by Transmission Disequilibrium Test (TDT). The odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval) was 0.90 (0.64-1.3). The p-value was 0.6. Examining subgroups revealed nominally significant association of 2R with inattentive ADHD: OR = 0.33 (0.12-0.92) and p = 0.03. Because our study used TDT analysis, we meta-analyzed the association of 2R with ADHD in Asians (1329 patient alleles), revealing results similar to ours: OR = 0.97 (0.80-1.2) and p = 0.8. To examine the association of 2R with inattentive ADHD, we meta-analyzed all studies (regardless of analysis type or ethnicity, in order to increase statistical power): 702 patient alleles, 1420 control alleles, OR = 0.81 (0.57-1.1) and p = 0.2. Overall, there is no evidence of association between ADHD and the 2R allele, but the suggestive association with the inattentive type warrants further investigation.

Abstract
It is not yet understood whether, and to what extent, craniosynostosis impacts the development of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This PRISMA compliant and PROSPERO pre-registered (ID: CRD42023458640) systematic review and meta-analysis examines the association of single-suture, non-syndromic craniosynostosis with ADHD and inattention/hyperactivity symptoms. Data from 17 independent studies (Nparticipants = 2,389; Mage = 7.3 years) were analyzed, taking into consideration suture location, surgical status, age, and measures administered, where feasible. Few differences were found between cases and controls, but some studies reported high symptom levels. Additional research is required utilizing larger sample sizes and more comprehensive assessment of ADHD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the pharmacology and abuse potential of oral dexamphetamine and lisdexamfetamine (LDX). METHODS A search of Medline and Embase was conducted to identify relevant articles for this literature review. RESULTS Dexamphetamine and LDX, a prodrug of dexamphetamine, are indicated for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. It has been suggested that LDX may have a reduced potential for oral abuse compared to immediate-release dexamphetamine. As a prodrug, LDX has the same pharmacodynamic properties as dexamphetamine. A study in healthy adults showed that the pharmacokinetic profile of dexamphetamine following oral administration of LDX is essentially identical to that of an equimolar dose of dexamphetamine administered 1 h later. In addition, dexamphetamine produced subjective drug liking effects comparable to those produced by LDX. LDX showed linear dose proportional pharmacokinetics up to a dose of 250 mg, indicating a lack of overdose protection at supratherapeutic doses. Furthermore, the exposure to dexamphetamine released from LDX may be prolonged by the consumption of alkalizing agents. CONCLUSIONS The available evidence from pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic and abuse liability studies suggests a comparable potential for oral abuse of dexamphetamine and LDX.

Abstract
We conducted a 12-week randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial to investigate the potential impact of Bifidobacterium bifidum (Bf-688) supplementation on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Children with ADHD who were already receiving a stable dose of methylphenidate (MPH) treatment were enrolled and were randomly assigned to two groups: one receiving add-on Bf-688 (daily bacterial count of 5 × 109 CFUs) (n = 51) and the other receiving a placebo (n = 51). All participants underwent assessments using Conners' Continuous Performance Test (CPT) and Conners' Continuous Auditory Test of Attention (CATA). Additionally, fecal samples were collected at the beginning of the trial (week 0) and at the endpoint (week 12). Remarkably, the group receiving Bf-688 supplementation, but not the placebo group, exhibited significant improvements in omission errors in CPT as well as Hit reaction time in both CPT and CATA. Gut microbiome analysis revealed a significant increase in the Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio (F/B ratio) only in the Bf-688 group. Furthermore, we identified significant negative correlations between N-Glycan biosynthesis and Hit reaction time in both CPT and CATA. Our results demonstrate that the probiotic Bf-688 supplement can enhance neuropsychological performance in children with ADHD, possibly by altering the composition of the gut microbiota, ultimately leading to reduced N-Glycan biosynthesis.

Abstract
PURPOSE Attentional and executive dysfunctions are the most frequent cognitive disorders in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), with a high prevalence of attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We (i) compared attentional profiles between NF1 children with and without ADHD and children with primary ADHD criteria and (ii) investigated the possible relationship between attentional disorders and "unidentified bright objects" (UBOs) in NF1. METHODS This retrospective study included 47 NF1 children, 25 with ADHD criteria (NF1+adhd group), matched for age, sex, and cognitive level with 47 children with primary ADHD (ADHD group). We collected computer task (sustained-attention, visuomotor-decision, inhibition, and cognitive-flexibility tasks) scores normalized for age and sex, and brain magnetic resonance imaging data. RESULTS (i) Working memory was impaired in all groups. (ii) Omissions (p < 0.002) and response-time variability (p < 0.05) in sustained-attention and visuomotor-decision tasks and errors (p < 0.02) in the cognitive-flexibility task were lower for the NFI+adhd and ADHD groups than for the NF1-no-adhd group. (iii) The NF1+adhd group had slower response times (p ≤ 0.02) for inhibition and visuomotor-decision tasks than the other groups. (iv) We found no relevant association between cognitive performance and UBOs. CONCLUSIONS NF1 children with ADHD have an attentional and executive functions deficit profile similar to that of children with primary ADHD, but with a slower response-time, increasing learning difficulties. The atypical connectivity of fronto-striatal pathways, poorer dopamine homeostasis, and increased GABA inhibition observed in NF1 renders vulnerable the development of the widely distributed neural networks that support attentional, working-memory, and executive functions.

Abstract
Patients with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) encounter significant barriers to receiving quality health care, particularly for acute conditions such as non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). This study addresses the critical gap in knowledge regarding in-hospital outcomes and the use of invasive therapies in this demographic. By analyzing data from the National Inpatient Sample database from 2011 to 2020 using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Edition (ICD-9) and Tenth Edition (ICD-10) codes, we identified patients with NSTEMI, both with and without NDDs, and compared baseline characteristics, in-hospital outcomes, and the application of invasive treatments. The analysis involved a weighted sample of 7,482,216 NSTEMI hospitalizations, of which 30,168 (0.40%) patients had NDDs. There were significantly higher comorbidity-adjusted odds of in-hospital mortality, cardiac arrest, endotracheal intubation, infectious complications, ventricular arrhythmias, and restraint use among the NDD cohort. Conversely, this group exhibited lower adjusted odds of undergoing left heart catheterization, percutaneous coronary intervention, or coronary artery bypass graft surgery. These findings underscore the disparities faced by patients with NDDs in accessing invasive cardiac interventions, highlighting the need for further research to address these barriers and improve care quality for this vulnerable population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) remains underdiagnosed and undertreated in girls. Inattentive symptoms, often predominant in girls with ADHD, represent a key driver of impairment and often persist into adulthood. AKL-T01 is a regulated digital therapeutic targeting inattention. We examined potential sex differences in the efficacy of AKL-T01 in three separate trials for 1) children, 2) adolescents, and 3) adults. METHODS We conducted secondary analyses of clinical outcomes by sex in three AKL-T01 randomized clinical trials in ADHD (n1 = 180 children 30.6% female, M(SD) age = 9.71 (1.32); n2 = 146 adolescents; 41.1% female, M(SD) age = 14.34 (1.26); n3 = 153 adults; 69.9% female, M(SD) age = 39.86 (12.84)). Active treatment participants used AKL-T01 for 25 min/day over 4-6 weeks. Primary outcomes included change in attention on the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) and symptom change on the clinician-rated ADHD Rating Scale (ADHD-RS). To evaluate study hypotheses, we conducted a series of robust linear regressions of TOVA and ADHD-RS change scores by sex, adjusting for baseline scores. RESULTS In children, girls demonstrated greater improvement in objective attention relative to boys following AKL-T01 (TOVA Attentional Composite Score; Cohen's d = .36 and Reaction Time Mean Half; Cohen's d = .54), but no significant sex differences in ADHD rating scale change. We did not observe significant sex differences in outcomes in the adolescent or adult trials. Limitations include binary sex categorization and slight study design variation across the three samples. CONCLUSION AKL-T01 might notably improve attentional functioning in girls with ADHD relative to boys. Objective attention measures may be particularly important in the assessment of attentional improvement in childhood, given known gender biases in ADHD symptom reporting. We emphasize the importance of considering sex and gender-specific factors in ADHD treatment evaluation. Abstract
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that disrupts brain functioning and is characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention. With varying presentations and complex etiological factors contributing to the development of ADHD, along with its persistence into adulthood, ADHD must be studied. Researchers have taken an interest in the relationship between ADHD and suicide, which is a serious public health concern with increasing prevalence rates in the Americas. The current literature reveals conflicting views on the importance of psychiatric comorbidities in the development of suicidal behaviours in ADHD patients. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether there were significant differences between adult ADHD patients with suicide risk and adult ADHD patients without suicide risk. This study was a naturalistic retrospective chart review pilot study that used a sample of adults with a confirmed diagnosis of ADHD from January 2023 to August 2023. Using convenience sampling and sets of inclusion and exclusion criteria, patient data were sequentially collected from Med Access electronic medical records. The control and experimental groups each consisted of 50 patients (100) ranging from 19 to 58 years old. Our quantitative data were analyzed using non-parametric statistical tests, including the Chi-Square test and the Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed significant associations between ADHD patients with suicide risk and (1) borderline personality disorder; (2) binge eating disorder; (3) seven specific psychosocial risk factors; and (4) a higher number of antidepressant medication trials. No significant associations were found with other psychiatric disorders; however, there are important sex differences in terms of the risk factors. Our pilot study reveals several significant differences between adult ADHD patients with suicide risk and those without suicide risk. However, given our limited sample size and limitations, we hope our study encourages larger-scale studies to further investigate this relationship to improve its generalizability.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Amphetamine preparations are one of the two categories of stimulant medications approved for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Optimal treatment of ADHD aims to reduce core symptoms for as much of the waking hours as possible, leading to longer-acting delivery formats. In addition, the pediatric population commonly has difficulty swallowing pills and manufacturers have developed a variety of options to facilitate this concern. These include chewable tablets, capsules that may be sprinkled on soft food, liquids and transdermal patches. AREAS COVERED This article reviews the once-daily extended-release preparations currently available for amphetamine compounds, their pharmacodynamics, and common adverse effects. EXPERT OPINION There is an extensive evidence base supporting use of amphetamine preparations in the treatment of ADHD. Rapid onset of action and a favorable side effect profile make these widely used. The availability of once-daily extended-release chewable tablets, capsules that can be opened and sprinkled, and liquid formulations provides clinicians with multiple options to meet the specific needs of patients with difficulty swallowing whole pills.

Abstract
With the ever-increasing prevalence of mental health issues worldwide, a robust synthesis of existing epidemiological data on the prevalence of Conduct disorder (CD) in children and adolescents is needed to strengthen the knowledge base. This quantitative umbrella review aims to provide a robust synthesis of evidence on the prevalence of CD children and adolescents from meta-analytic systematic reviews. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, PsychINFO, and Scopus to identify relevant articles. The study protocol has been registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023447620). The methodological quality of the studies was evaluated by using a Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR). Invariance variance weighted random-effect meta-analysis was performed to pool prevalence estimates from the included articles. Seven meta-analyses, encompassing 138 primary studies and slightly over 48 million CD cases were included in this umbrella review. The quantitative analysis of these studies found a pooled prevalence of CD 3.0% (95%CI 2.0-5%) in children and adolescents, based on random effect meta-analyses. In a stratified analysis, the prevalence estimate of CD was 2.6 times higher in boys compared to girls. Evidence from our quantitative umbrella review showed that the prevalence of CD is relatively high in children and adolescents with boys 2.6 times more likely to experience the disorders when compared to girls. Our findings underlie that attention should be given to preventing, identifying, and treating CD in children and adolescents.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Currently, assessing ADHD treatment response to stimulants relies on rating scales and subjective questionnaires and sometimes a CPT. Such tools fall short of objective, quantifiable measurement of effect, especially in natural settings and can result in inconsistent treatment. METHOD We report results from two studies using a novel proof-of-concept approach. A preliminary trial of 10 individuals used a high-fidelity eye tracker; a second study of 100 individuals used webcams at the participants' homes. RESULTS Both studies evaluated stimulant effect using reading behavior analysis, being an ADHD symptom that stimulants affect and a major symptom patients want to improve. Both showed a significant change in reading behavior related to medication state, suggesting a clear, objective measure of stimulant effect. CONCLUSION Using ubiquitous hardware, investigators created a user-friendly treatment assessment platform where individuals can collect their own objective data within minutes in any setting where they have access to a web camera and computer.

Abstract
Acoustic stimuli such as music or ambient noise can significantly affect physiological and psychological health in humans. We here summarize positive effects of music therapy in premature infant distress regulation, performance enhancement, sleep quality control, and treatment of mental disorders. Specifically, music therapy exhibits promising effects on treatment of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). We also highlight regulatory mechanisms by which auditory intervention affects an organism, encompassing modulation of immune responses, gene expression, neurotransmitter regulation and neural circuitry. As a safe, cost-effective and non-invasive intervention, music therapy offers substantial potential in treating a variety of neurological conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a class of neurodevelopmental disorders which is commonly diagnosed in school-age children, but it can occur in any age group. To provide a robust synthesis of published evidence on the prevalence of ADHD in adults, we conducted an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. METHODS The review was guided by preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis (PRISMA). We searched PsychINFO, Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus to retrieve pertinent studies. The review protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023389704). A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) was used to assess the quality of the included studies. A random-effects model was used to perform a meta-analysis. RESULTS Five systematic reviews and meta-analyses (57 unique primary studies) with data on 21,142,129 adult participants were eligible for inclusion in this umbrella review. Inverse variance weighted random effect meta-analysis of these studies indicated that the pooled prevalence of ADHD in adults was 3.10% (95%CI 2.60-3.60%). ADHD-I (the inattentive type of ADHD) remained the commonest type of ADHD, followed by ADHD-HI (the hyperactive type) and ADHD-C (the combined type). CONCLUSION The results indicate that ADHD is relatively high in adults, with ADHD-I remaining the most common subtype. Attention should be given to preventing, reducing, identifying, and managing ADHD in adults.
