Abstract
Background: The telemanagement model in chronic diseases needs older patients to have a certain level of e-Health literacy. According to Electronic Health Literacy model, factors associated with the e-Health literacy among older patients could be comprehensively investigated from individual, situational, and environmental aspects. Objectives: To investigate the e-Health literacy levels among older patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and explore associated factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among older patients with COPD. The e-Health Literacy Scale was used to measure individuals' e-Health literacy. The multiple linear regression was applied to identify factors associated with e-Health literacy. Results: A total of 230 responses were included in the final analysis. The average score of e-Health literacy for older COPD patients was 24.66 (6.86). After adjusting the model, the results of multiple linear regression demonstrated that aging attitudes (B = 0.067, p < 0.001), technophobia (B = -0.285, p < 0.001), and self-efficacy (B = 0.431, p < 0.001) accounted for 68.3% (p < 0.001) of the total variation in e-Health literacy. Conclusion: This study identifies significant correlations of technophobia, aging attitudes, and self-efficacy, respectively, with e-Health literacy, and self-efficacy and technophobia may be constant predictive factors of e-Health literacy. In the future, intervention research on e-Health literacy should be conducted from a social psychology perspective, with particular emphasis on addressing negative aging attitudes and technophobia. Abstract
Background: Use of electronic health (e-Health) technologies has increased in the past decade and inadequate e-Health literacy may lead to health-related social inequality. This is especially true for patients living with chronic diseases who are often involved in self-care. However, the measurement of e-Health literacy represents several challenges. Among available instruments, the e-Health Literacy Scale (eHEALS) is the only instrument with available psychometric properties. Aim: To identify studies measuring e-Health literacy in adults living with chronic disease and its relationship to health-related behaviors and other perceptions such as quality of life, self-efficacy, or specific disease biomarkers, and studies analyzing the impact of educational intervention on e-Health literacy. Methods: The authors searched MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to identify studies published in English language until April 2022. Results: Seventeen studies involving 4,877 participants were included. A majority of the studies were cross-sectional with a lack of appropriate controls. Five of the included studies were experimental, involving 758 participants. All of them reported positive effects of educational interventions on the improvements in self-reported e-Health literacy skills. However, most studies were at risk of bias. Conclusion: Despite these limitations, the findings of this review indicate the positive relationship between e-Health literacy and various health care processes in adults with chronic diseases and highlights a need for prospective controlled studies. Promoting e-Health literacy might give better opportunities for the active involvement of people with chronic diseases in self-care and for the implementation of online interventions into existing system of care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With widespread use of the internet and mobile devices, many people have gained improved access to health-related information online for health promotion and disease management. As the health information acquired online can affect health-related behaviors, health care providers need to take into account how each individual's online health literacy (eHealth literacy) can affect health-related behaviors. OBJECTIVE To determine whether an individual's level of eHealth literacy affects actual health-related behaviors, the correlation between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors was identified in an integrated manner through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. METHODS The MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane, KoreaMed, and Research Information Sharing Service databases were systematically searched for studies published up to March 19, 2021, which suggested the relationship between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors. Studies were eligible if they were conducted with the general population, presented eHealth literacy according to validated tools, used no specific control condition, and measured health-related behaviors as the outcomes. A meta-analysis was performed on the studies that could be quantitatively synthesized using a random effect model. A pooled correlation coefficient was generated by integrating the correlation coefficients, and the risk of bias was assessed using the modified Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. RESULTS Among 1922 eHealth literacy-related papers, 29 studies suggesting an association between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors were included. All retrieved studies were cross-sectional studies, and most of them used the eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS) as a measurement tool for eHealth literacy. Of the 29 studies, 22 presented positive associations between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors. The meta-analysis was performed on 14 studies that presented the correlation coefficient for the relationship between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors. When the meta-analysis was conducted by age, morbidity status, and type of health-related behavior, the pooled correlation coefficients were 0.37 (95% CI 0.29-0.44) for older adults (aged ≥65 years), 0.28 (95% CI 0.17-0.39) for individuals with diseases, and 0.36 (95% CI 0.27-0.41) for health-promoting behavior. The overall estimate of the correlation between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors was 0.31 (95% CI 0.25-0.34), which indicated a moderate correlation between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors. CONCLUSIONS Our results of a positive correlation between eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors indicate that eHealth literacy can be a mediator in the process by which health-related information leads to changes in health-related behaviors. Larger-scale studies with stronger validity are needed to evaluate the detailed relationship between the proficiency level of eHealth literacy and health-related behaviors for health promotion in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The goal of this study was to determine if a 6-week, peer-led intervention improves health literacy and numeracy among people living with HIV (PLWH). METHODS We used a randomized controlled trial with repeated measurements, which included six, 90-minute, group-based training sessions. We recruited PLWH participants (n = 359) from safety-net practices in the New York City Metropolitan area and Rochester, NY. Participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to an intervention group (n = 180) or a control group (n = 179). Outcome measures were collected at baseline, eight weeks post-baseline, and at six months using the Brief Estimate of Health Knowledge and Action-HIV (BEHKA-HIV), the Electronic Health Literacy Scale (eHEALS), the Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy (REALM), and the Newest Vital Sign (NVS). RESULTS The intervention group had statistically significant improvements in eHealth literacy and BEHKA-HIV compared to the control group. There were no statistically significant changes in general health literacy or numeracy in either group. The intervention had the greatest impact on participants with the lowest levels of eHealth literacy at baseline. CONCLUSION The intervention had a positive impact on participants' HIV health literacy and eHealth literacy. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Our findings have implications for broadening the function of peer-workers in the health care continuum.

Abstract
Low health literacy is associated with challenges for those living with HIV including medication non-adherence and poorer health outcomes. The aim of this study was to systematically review the literature on health literacy and health outcomes in persons living with HIV. The extended guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, as well as A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) checklist were utilized to guide the approach to the review. A variety of electronic databases including PubMed, CINAHL, PsychInfo, and Cochrane Library were searched. Additional literature available on U.S. government websites was also included in the search. Search terms were used in a variety of combinations and included HIV, health literacy, adherence, and health outcomes. Forty-eight studies were identified that addressed health literacy and health outcomes in HIV. Although several studies in this review did not provide robust results of statistical significance linking health literacy with health outcomes, all of the studies addressed the key significance of health literacy within the scope of living with HIV disease. The relationship between health literacy and the identified health outcomes requires further research and explication.

The Reliability and Validity of the Telephone-Based and Online Polish eHealth Literacy Scale Based on Two Nationally Representative Samples. Abstract
Adequate ehealth literacy is one of the key instruments safeguarding people against unreliable health-related information obtained from the Internet. This paper presents an assessment of the reliability and the validity of a Polish version of the ehealth literacy scale (Pl-eHEALS). The assessment was carried out on the basis of two nationally representative samples of the Polish population. In the first survey of adults at least 50 years old, the technique of computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) was applied. In the second survey of young adult women (18-35 years old), the technique of computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) was used. The reliability and the validity of the Pl-eHEALS was analyzed. There were no floor or ceiling effects revealed in either sample. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients were 0.90 and 0.88, and Guttman split-half coefficients were 0.89 and 0.81, respectively. Exploratory factors analysis revealed single factor models in both cases. The sum of squared loadings in the first survey was 6.090 and accounted for 58.72% of the variance. In the second survey, the sum was 5.927 and was responsible for 55.06% of the variance. Hypothesis testing showed that, for older adults, higher ehealth literacy was prevalent in the respondents who used the Internet more frequently. Among young adult women, higher readiness to use the Internet as a primary source of health-related information and to undertake specific internet health-related activities was associated with higher ehealth literacy. The analysis reported in this paper confirmed the reliability and the validity of the instrument. It should be stressed that, prior to this study, there was no validated Polish version of the eHEALS that could be used with Polish-speaking respondents.

Abstract
Although HIV diagnoses among women have declined in recent years in the United States (U.S.), women accounted for 19% of new HIV diagnoses in 2016. In addition, women comprise 24% of the 973,846 persons living with HIV infection in the U.S. However, HIV prevention interventions targeting women are limited. We performed a review on HIV infection in women to increase awareness, improve overall care, and inform intervention development. A systematic literature review was conducted using literature published in PubMed, PsychINFO (EBSCO), and Scopus from July 2000 and June 2017. We included studies that: (1) were conducted in the U.S., (2) enrolled at least 50 HIV-positive women, and (3) utilized a case-control, cohort, or surveillance study design. Of 7497 articles, 48 articles met inclusion criteria. HIV diagnoses among women declined 32% between 2001 and 2016. In 2016, 61% of diagnoses in women were among African American women, and 56% were in the South. Women reported barriers to HIV care largely due to psychosocial challenges and social/structural determinants of health (SDH) barriers. Though new diagnoses among women have declined, racial and regional disparities remain. HIV prevention and research efforts with women are vital to inform interventions and reduce disparities.

Abstract
Abstract. The objective of this paper is to synthesize and update findings from systematic review on health literacy and health outcomes among patients with long-term conditions, and extend the review to the digital domain. Health outcomes include clinical outcomes, processes of care, and health service use. Data sources are the following: (1) studies which appeared in two previous systematic reviews in 2004 and 2011 whose participants were people with long-term conditions or elderly ( n = 54); (2) articles on health literacy and health outcomes identified in an updated 2011–2016 search ( n = 26); (3) articles on eHealth literacy and its association with health outcomes ( n = 8). Strength of evidence was determined by a qualitative assessment of risk of bias, consistency, and directness. There was a lack of consistent evidence on the relationship between health literacy and clinical outcomes despite the consistent evidence on the association with mortality. There was low to insufficient evidence on the association between health literacy and self-rated health/function and emotional states of anxiety and depression, alongside high evidence on lack of association with quality of life. There was insufficient to low evidence on the association between health literacy and behavioral outcomes (medication adherence, other health behaviors) and finally also low to moderate evidence on the association between health literacy and use of health services such as hospitalization and emergency department. In the eHealth literacy domain, there were few studies reporting association with health behaviors and self-rated health with inconsistent results. In conclusion, it is advocated to examine performed heath literacy and eHealth literacy in large longitudinal studies.

Abstract
Background Health literacy research seems to lack a consensus on what aspects to include into literacy in the context of health and on how to operationalize these concepts for measurement purposes. In addition to health literacy, several other concepts, such as electronic health (eHealth) literacy and mental health literacy, have been developed across disciplines. This study examines how these different concepts are used when studying health-related competencies in Web contexts. Objective This study systematically reviews health literacy concepts and definitions and their operationalization in studies focused on Web-based health information environments. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted in April 2016 in 6 electronic databases with a limitation to articles in English published between January 2011 and April 2016. Altogether, 1289 unique records were identified and screened according to the predefined inclusion criteria: (1) original, peer-reviewed research articles written in English; (2) the topic of the article concerned literacy in the context of health; (3) informants of the study were lay people, not health professionals or students of the field; and (4) the focus of the study was placed on an Web-based information environment. In total, 180 full texts were screened, of which 68 were included in the review. The studies were analyzed with an emphasis on the used health literacy concepts and measures. Results On the basis of the included studies, several concepts are in use when studying health-related literacy in Web environments, eHealth literacy and health literacy being the most common ones. The reviewed studies represent a variety of disciplines, but mostly medical sciences. Typically, quantitative research methods are used. On the basis of the definitions for health literacy, 3 thematic categories were identified: general and skill-based, multidimensional, and domain-specific health literacy. Most studies adopted a domain-specific concept, followed by the ones that used a general and skill-based concept. Multidimensional concepts occurred least frequently. The general health literacy concepts were usually operationalized with reading comprehension measures, the domain-specific concepts with self-efficacy measures, and multidimensional concepts with several types of measures. However, inconsistencies in operationalization were identified. Conclusions The results show that in studies conducted in Web-based information environments, several different health literacy concepts are in use, and there is no clear consensus on the definitions for these concepts. Future studies should place emphasis on the conceptual development of health literacy in Web contexts to gain better results on operationalization for measurement. Researchers are encouraged to provide clear operational definitions for the concepts they use to ensure transparency in reporting.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the era of eHealth, eHealth literacy is emerging as a key concept to promote self-management of chronic conditions such as HIV. However, there is a paucity of research focused on eHealth literacy for people living with HIV (PLWH) as a means of improving their adherence to HIV care and health outcome. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to critically appraise the types, scope, and nature of studies addressing eHealth literacy as a study variable in PLWH. METHODS This systematic review used comprehensive database searches, such as PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane, to identify quantitative studies targeting PLWH published in English before May 2017 with eHealth literacy as a study variable. RESULTS We identified 56 unique records, and 7 papers met the eligibility criteria. The types of study designs varied (descriptive, n=3; quasi-experimental, n=3; and experimental, n=1) and often involved community-based settings (n=5), with sample sizes ranging from 18 to 895. In regards to instruments used, 3 studies measured eHealth literacy with validated instruments such as the eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS); 2 studies used full or short versions of Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults, whereas the remaining 2 studies used study-developed questions. The majority of studies included in the review reported high eHealth literacy among the samples. The associations between eHealth literacy and health outcomes in PLWH were not consistent. In the areas of HIV transmission risk, retention in care, treatment adherence, and virological suppression, the role of eHealth literacy is still not fully understood. Furthermore, the implications for future research are discussed. CONCLUSIONS Understanding the role of eHealth literacy is an essential step to encourage PLWH to be actively engaged in their health care. Avenues to pursue in the role of eHealth literacy and PLWH should consider the development and use of standardized eHealth literacy definitions and measures.

Abstract
The present study evaluated the potential use of Twitter data for providing risk indices of STIs. We developed online risk indices (ORIs) based on tweets to predict new HIV, gonorrhea, and chlamydia diagnoses, across U.S. counties and across 5 years. We analyzed over one hundred million tweets from 2009 to 2013 using open-vocabulary techniques and estimated the ORIs for a particular year by entering tweets from the same year into multiple semantic models (one for each year). The ORIs were moderately to strongly associated with the actual rates (.35 < rs < .68 for 93% of models), both nationwide and when applied to single states (California, Florida, and New York). Later models were slightly better than older ones at predicting gonorrhea and chlamydia, but not at predicting HIV. The proposed technique using free social media data provides signals of community health at a high temporal and spatial resolution.

Abstract
We assessed whether young men who have sex with men's acceptability with the online Get Connected! intervention and subsequent sexual health decision making were influenced by their baseline eHealth literacy (high vs. low competency) and intervention tailoring (tailored or nontailored intervention condition). Compared to the high eHealth literacy/tailored intervention group: (1) those in the low eHealth literacy/tailored intervention condition and participants in the nontailored intervention condition (regardless of eHealth literacy score) reported lower intervention information quality scores; and (2) those in the low eHealth literacy/nontailored intervention group reported lower intervention system quality scores and that the intervention had less influence on their sexual health decision making. Future similar intervention research should consider how eHealth literacy might influence participants' abilities to navigate intervention content and integrate it into their sexual decision making.
