Abstract
The construction of heterophase junctions by rutile-anatase TiO2 is considered an effective strategy for toluene degradation, but the photogenerated electron utilization is still insufficient. In this study, the formation of type-II heterojunction by the encapsulation of Materials of Institut Lavoisier (MIL-101) by anatase is performed, and then the heterophase junction is further constructed to improve the catalytic performance of the photocatalyst. The enhancement of photocatalytic performance depends on the encapsulation of MIL-101 by anatase, the light absorption capacity of anatase, and the contact area of two heterojunctions. Photogenerated electrons are transferred to oxygen vacancies of anatase and promoting the generation of oxygen-containing radicals. The material certifies the synergistic effect of the heterophase junction and heterojunction design and provides a theoretical basis for application in the degradation of volatile organic compounds.

Abstract
The Z-type Ag/Ag3PO4/MIL-101(Cr) heterojunction photocatalyst (referred to as AAM-x) was successfully prepared by a simple in situ precipitation method. The photocatalytic activity of the AAM-x samples was evaluated using a common tetracycline (TC) antibiotic. All AAM-x materials are more effective in removing TC than Ag3PO4 and MIL-101(Cr). Among them, AAM-3 exhibited efficient photodegradation efficiency and excellent structural stability, and the removal rate of TC (20 mg L-1) by AAM-3 (0.5 g L-1) under 60 min of visible light was 97.9%. The effects of photocatalyst dosage, pH, and inorganic anions were also systematically investigated. According to the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis, metallic silver particles appeared on the surface of the Ag3PO4/MIL-101(Cr) mixture during the catalyst synthesis. The results of photoluminescence spectra, photocurrent response, EIS, and fluorescence lifetime showed that AAM-3 has a high photogenic charge separation efficiency. An all-solid-state Z-type heterojunction mechanism including Ag3PO4, metallic Ag, and MIL-101(Cr) is proposed to rationalize the excellent photocatalytic performance and photostability of AAM-x composites and to explain the effect of metallic Ag acting as a charge transfer bridge. The TC intermediates were identified using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and possible routes of TC degradation were also discussed. This work provides a viable idea for removing antibiotics by an Ag3PO4/MOF-based heterogeneous structured photocatalyst.

Abstract
Since the environmental hazards of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are well known, heterogeneous catalysis has become one of the most popular methods to treat VOCs due to its environmental friendliness and simplicity of operation. Although a large number of reports have reviewed the application of catalytic oxidation for the degradation of VOCs, relatively few reports are based on this direction of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and MOF derivatives. Herein, this paper reviews the recent applications of heterogeneous catalytic technologies in the degradation of VOCs, including photocatalysis, thermal catalysis and other catalytic approaches. The applications of MOFs and their derivatives in VOCs degradation, such as the progress of MOF-derived metal oxides in the treatment of toluene, were highlighted. The mechanisms of VOCs degradation by different catalytic approaches were systematically presented. Finally, we presented the views and directions of VOCs treatment technology development. We hope that this reaction type-oriented review will provide important insights into MOFs and MOF-derived materials for VOCs pollution control.

Abstract
Photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) over MOF-based photocatalysts is considerably impeded by the weak activation of reactant molecules on the catalyst surface and low charge carrier mobility. In this study, we demonstrate that atomically dispersed Ti species anchored on NH2-UiO-66(Zr) (AUiO-66(Zr/Ti)) exhibit high visible-light-responsive photocatalytic activity toward toluene vapor with an 83 % removal efficiency and 89 % CO2 selectivity. These results are markedly superior to those reported in the literature. More importantly, AUiO-66(Zr/Ti) exhibited excellent catalytic stability during a prolonged reaction, while its pristine AUiO-66(Zr) counterpart underwent rapid catalytic deactivation after a few hours. The optimized sample, AUiO-66(Zr/Ti)-4h, provided extended visible light absorption and enhanced charge carrier mobility due to ligand-to-linker metal charge transfer. Meanwhile, the defect-rich surface of AUiO-66(Zr/Ti)-4h facilitated the activation of H2O/toluene molecules into the critical intermediates of hydroxyl, benzoic acid, and maleic anhydride, which were effectively converted under visible light illumination. On the basis of the combined results of the PCO of toluene and material characterization, the structure - activity relationship and the related catalytic mechanism are discussed comprehensively.

Abstract
In this work, metal-organic framework MIL-101(Cr) with regular morphology, stable structure, and good dispersion was prepared by the hydrothermal method. MIL-101(Cr) has two different sizes of pores, but after TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were in situ prepared, the two pores disappear. The result demonstrates that TiO2 NPs were located in the pores of MIL-101(Cr). TiO2-decorated MIL-101(Cr) forms an inside type II heterojunction and the band gap energy is narrowed, which can promote electron-hole separation and enhance the light absorption. Therefore, the heterojunction shows a high visible light-induced peroxidase-like activity. Kinetic studies exhibit that the K m value of TiO2-in-MIL-101(Cr) to TMB is 0.17 mM, and the affinity of TiO2-in-MIL-101(Cr) is higher than that of natural horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Then, a "turn-on" colorimetric assay based on TiO2-in-MIL-101(Cr) was constructed for the detection of blood glucose. The detection range is 1-100 μM (R 2 = 0.9950) with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.17 μM. Compared with the clinical method, the constructed colorimetric method has accurate and reliable results for the clinical detection. The anti-interference experiment confirms that the method has high selectivity to glucose.

Abstract
The development of efficacious photocatalysts for removal of heavy metal and dyes coexisting pollutants simultaneously remains a challenge. Herein, we designed a three-layered Pd@MIL-101/P25 composite photocatalyst, which had the characteristics of directional photogenerated carrier separation. Pd nanoparticles were encapsulated in the MIL-101 to enrich the e-, while P25 was loaded on the outer surface of MIL-101 as the valence band of the heterojunction with MIL-101 to enrich the h+. The photocatalytic kinetic constants (K) of Pd@MIL-101/P25 for the removal of Cr (VI) and RhB were 3.4 and 4.2 times greater than that of MIL-101, respectively. The photocatalytic efficiency of the catalyst in the mixed pollutants of Cr(VI) and RhB was much higher than that when Cr(VI) and RhB were present separately. Due to the 1.2 and 1.6 nm windows of MIL-101, two target pollutants can be directionally separated. Cr (VI) was reduced by e- on the inner surface, and RhB was blocked on the outer surface and oxidized by h+. These results suggested that the directional spatially separation of target pollutants are able to separate the reaction sites of oxidation and reduction, improving the utilization efficiency of photogenerated carriers. This work not only provided a new strategy for the design and construction of photocatalytic materials, but also provided a new idea for the treatment of mixed pollutants.

Abstract
Precise regulation of photoexcited charge carriers for separation and transportation is a core requirement for practical application in the photocatalysis field. Herein, a 2D/2D BiOBr/g-C3N4 heterojunction is prepared by a self-assembly method and exhibits enhanced and stable activity for photocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) and norfloxacin (NFA) under visible light. Compared to pure g-C3N4, the kinetic constants of BPA and NFA degradation over BiOBr/g-C3N4 are enhanced by about 14.74 and 4.01 times, respectively. The separation and transportation mechanism for the photoexcited charge carriers is clarified by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (in situ XPS), and theoretical calculations. The results show that BiOBr/g-C3N4 exhibits the feature of a relative p-n junction, in which the charges photoexcited on BiOBr/g-C3N4 with high redox potentials can be kept and spatially separated. Moreover, the built-in electric field with the direction of g-C3N4 → BiOBr and the opportune band curvature provide the driving force for charge separation and transportation. Additionally, BPA and NFA degradation intermediates are also detected by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. It is of great significance to fabricate efficient photocatalysts for environmental purification and other targeted reactions.

Abstract
Ever-increasing anthropogenic activities are radically deteriorating the environment by causing severe pollution. Thus, curtailing the environmental pollution and promotion of sustainable development, are the hot issues confronted by scientists in this modern era. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been highly recognized as emerging promising materials for environmental remediation due to their versatile structure and extraordinary properties. Among them, MILs (MIL = Matérial Institute of Lavoisier) are the series of MOFs mostly known for their incredible stability, unique tailorable pore structures, and astounding versatile environmental applications. Their exclusive physiochemical properties and multifunctionality make them proficient for a wide range of pollutants removal in the exposure of versatile harsh environments, compared to other MOFs. This piece of research summarizes the state-of-the-art of development of MILs on the broad spectrum, highlighting their specificities, such as synthesis techniques, modifications and applications for environmental remediation. However, MILs wonderful properties and extraordinary applications in multiple fields, their deployment on practical and commercial-scale pollutants remediation is hindered by insufficient scientific research on underlying mechanisms and relationships. Henceforth, this review not only signifies the emerging importance of MILs for environmental applications but also indicates the urgency to maximize the scientific research for exploitation of MOFs on a practical level and promotion of green technologies for environmental remediation.

Abstract
TiO2 has great potential in photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants, but poor visible light response and low separation efficiency of photogenerated electron–hole pairs limit its wide applications. In this study, we have successfully prepared TiO2/UiO-67 photocatalyst through an in situ solvothermal method. The degradation rate of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is 98.9% in only 80 min, which is superior to the commercial P25, commercial TiO2 and most of reported photocatalysts under visible light irradiation. In addition, the TiO2/UiO-67 photocatalyst showed excellent recyclability. We demonstrated that the enhanced photocatalytic mechanism was owing to the heterojunction between TiO2 and UiO-67, which enhanced effectively the separation photogenerated charge carriers and visible light response. The free radical trapping tests demonstrated that superoxide radicals (˙O2−), holes (h+) and hydroxyl radicals (˙OH) were the main active species and then oxidized AFB1 to some small molecules. Abstract
P-nitrophenol (PNP), a widely used compound, is harmful to the environment and human health. In this study, four iron-based Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) were prepared by coprecipitation (Co-Fe PBA, Mn-Fe PBA, Cu-Fe PBA and Fe-Fe PBA). The Co-Fe PBA exhibited high peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation performance for PNP degradation, removing over 90% of PNP in 60 min at an optimal pH of 7, temperature at 30 ℃, initial concentration of 20 mg/L, PBA dose of 0.2 g/L and PMS dose of 1 g/L. The physicochemical properties of the Co-Fe PBA were investigated by various characterization methods. The catalytic activity of PBA and the influence of various process parameters and water quality on the catalytic reaction were investigated to elucidate the mechanism of p-nitrophenol degradation by PBA-activated persulfate. Moreover, the mechanism of accelerated degradation of PNP under HCO3- conditions and the role of major reactive oxides were determined by EPR measurement methods and free radical trapping experiments. HCO3- was found to directly activate PMS to produce reactive oxygen species, and 1O2, ∙OH and SO4∙- were all greatly increased. This work presents a promising green heterogeneous catalyst for the degradation of emerging contaminants (ECs) in real wastewater with natural organic matter and coexisting anions by PMS activation.

Abstract
Highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles supported UiO-66 catalysts were successfully prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method. Their thermal catalytic performances were evaluated by toluene degradation. The physicochemical properties of the samples were characterized using a series of characterization methods. The catalytic activity of catalysts remained essentially unchanged in the high weight hourly space velocity, stability and water resistance test, which also indicated good catalytic performance. In the reusability test, the catalytic performance was found to be enhanced after the reaction, because of the catalyst might follow a Pt0-PtO synergistic catalytic mechanism (similar to Mars-van Krevelen mechanism) and there was a phase transition between Pt0 and PtO during the reaction. Firstly, the toluene adsorbed on the catalyst surface was oxidized by the activated lattice oxygen of the PtO. Then, consumption of oxygen atoms led to formation of oxygen vacancies, and finally the molecular oxygen adsorbed by Pt0 was activated and passed to the PtO to supplement the oxygen vacancies, forming a redox cycle. In addition, the possible catalytic oxidation mechanism of toluene was also revealed.

Abstract
Effectively reducing the concentration of nitrogen-containing compounds (NCCs) remains a significant but challenging task in environmental restoration. In this work, a novel step-scheme (S-scheme) SnO2@MCr heterojunction was successfully fabricated via a facile hydrothermal method. At this heterojunction, MIL-101(Cr) octahedrons are decorated with highly dispersed SnO2 quantum dots (QDs, approximate size 3 nm). The QDs are evenly wrapped around the MIL-101(Cr), forming an intriguing zero-dimensional/three-dimensional (0D/3D) S-scheme heterostructure. Under simulated sunlight irradiation (280 nm < λ < 980 nm), SnO2@MCr demonstrated superior photoactivity toward the denitrification of pyridine, a typical NCC. The adsorption capacity and adsorption site of SnO2@MCr were also investigated. Tests using 20%SnO2@MCr exhibited much higher activity than that of pure SnO2 and MIL-101(Cr); the reduction ratio of Cr(VI) is rapidly increased to 95% after sunlight irradiation for 4 h. The improvement in the photocatalytic activity is attributed to (i) the high dispersion of SnO2 QDs, (ii) the binding of the rich adsorption sites with pyridine molecules, and (iii) the formation of the S-scheme heterojunction between SnO2 and MIL-101(Cr). Finally, the photocatalytic mechanism of pyridine was elucidated, and the possible intermediate products and degradation pathways were discussed.

Abstract
Herein, MIL-101(Fe), CoFe2O4, novel binary (MIL-101(Fe)/CoFe2O4, MIL-101(Fe)/GO and CoFe2O4/GO), and ternary (MIL-101(Fe)/CoFe2O4/(3%)GO and MIL-101(Fe)/CoFe2O4/(7%)GO) magnetic composites based upon the MIL-101(Fe) were synthesized. The XRD, FESEM, TEM, EDX, BET-BJH, FTIR, VSM, DRS, PL, EIS and other electrochemical analyses were applied to characterize samples. The MIL/CoFe2O4/(3%)GO demonstrated the best performance compared to other samples for visible light photocatalytic and photo-Fenton-like degradation of Direct Red 23 (DtR-23), Reactive Red 198 (ReR-198) dyes as well as Tetracycline Hydrochloride (TC-H) antibiotic. Degradation of dyes using the ternary composite after 70 min of visible light irradiation was greater than that of 99%. The presence of the optimum GO as a strong electron acceptor in MIL/CoFe2O4/(3%)GO not only led to the effective separation of charge carriers and thus reduction of their recombination but also increased the absorption of visible light. The composite possessed good durability in terms of stability and reusability. The PL, EIS and electrochemical analyses indicated that the MIL/CoFe2O4/(3%)GO improved the optical properties and photocatalytic performance.

Abstract
Substantial attempts have been undertaken for the improvement of the air quality over decades; and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from the chemical and textile industries are truly listed as severe issue to be controlled. To come up with modus operandi for this issue, a novel composite of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) MIL-100(Fe) with salient tuned features of natrite was designed by a green and facile method. Mineralized composite MOFs exhibited enhanced crystallinity than pure MIL-100(Fe) as well showcased a higher surface area of 1300 m² g-1. Through dynamic acetone pressure swing adsorption setup, MIL-0.05Na (MIL-100(Fe) synthesized with 0.05 mM Na₂CO₃ solution) revealed an enhanced acetone adsorption of 210 mg g 1 at room temperature. Gas phase adsorption isotherms confirmed the mono layer adsorption behavior. The kinetics models evaluated that the external mass transfer was the rate limiting step for surface adsorption. The thermodynamic study manifested that the adsorption reaction was spontaneous and exothermic. The proposed mechanism of adsorption was the act of physisorption which enriched the adsorbents reusability. This research work provides a futuristic vista to design mineralized Fe-MOFs composites for an energy saving adsorbents for VOCs removal.

Abstract
The Z-scheme heterojunction is a photocatalyst with narrow band gap and sufficiently high oxidization and reduction powers for degradation of pollutants in waters. This review firstly summarizes the fundamentals of photocatalysis, and explains the need to develop Z-scheme heterojunctions to harvest energy from sunlight effectively. Secondly, contemporary reports of degradation wastewater pollutants, including organic dyes, antibiotics, and other chemicals are reviewed and discussed. A challenge in the selection of an appropriate Z-scheme for removing a specific pollutant is the lack of available energy levels that are offered by the catalyst and the lack of redox energy levels that are required to break down essential chemical bonds of the pollutants. With reference to the redox energy levels offered by the active photocatalytic species, the redox energy levels of specific pollutants studied in literature are estimated. Challenges and prospects concerning the use of the Z-scheme to degrade recalcitrant pollutants under irradiation by sunlight are outlined at the end of this review.

Abstract
Environmental factors affecting the photocatalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have previously been studied experimentally, but there are few theoretical studies, especially those on surface intermolecular forces. Because of this, it is unclear how multiple coexisting factors impact photocatalytic processes. Herein, comprehensive multi-factorial impact mechanisms of the photocatalytic oxidation of formaldehyde were assessed using experiments and density functional theory simulations. The influence of humidity, concentration, and intermediate formate was investigated using a nano-TiO2 colloid, followed by adsorption and photocatalytic simulations. The maximum photocatalytic reaction rate and degradation efficiency occurred at 50% humidity due to the initially enhanced and then weakened adsorption and photocatalysis of formaldehyde. This stemmed from the increased number of water molecules and the narrower TiO2 band gap at low humidities, as well as the competitive adsorption between formaldehyde and excess water molecules at high humidities. Upon increasing the formaldehyde concentration, its photocatalytic oxidation rate increased due to enhanced adsorption, but weakened photocatalysis decreased the photocatalytic efficiency. The intermediate formate enhanced the adsorption and inhibited photocatalysis and did not significantly change the photocatalytic oxidation rate of formaldehyde upon changing the irradiation time. These findings provide guidance for the photocatalytic oxidation of VOCs produced by industrial air pollution.

Abstract
Using butyl titanate and absolute ethanol as raw materials, TiO2 was prepared by a hydrothermal method with different hydrothermal times, and the influences of hydrothermal time on the structure and photocatalytic performance of TiO2 were investigated. The obtained samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, PL and DRS, separately. The results show that TiO2 forms anatase when the hydrothermal time is 12 h, forms a mixed crystal composed of anatase and rutile when the hydrothermal time is 24 h, and forms rutile when the hydrothermal time is 36 h. With the extension of hydrothermal time, anatase gradually transforms into rutile and the surface area decreases. Although TiO2-24 h and TiO2-36 h show lower photoinduced charge recombination and higher light source utilization, TiO2-12 h exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity owing to its largest surface area (145.3 m2/g). The degradation degree of rhodamine B and tetracycline hydrochloride reach 99.6% and 90.0% after 45 min.

Nickel clusters accelerating hierarchical zinc indium sulfide nanoflowers for unprecedented visible-light hydrogen production. J Colloid Interface Sci 2021; 608:504-512. Abstract
As a typical two-dimensional (2D) metal chalcogenides and visible-light responsive semiconductor, zinc indium sulfide (ZnIn2S4) has attracted much attention in photocatalysis. However, the high recombination rate of photogenerated electrons and holes seriously limits its performance for hydrogen production. In this work, we report in-situ photodeposition of Ni clusters in hierarchical ZnIn2S4 nanoflowers (Ni/ZnIn2S4) to achieve unprecedented photocatalytic hydrogen production. The Ni clusters not only provide plenty of active sites for reactions as evidenced by in-situ photoluminescence measurement, but also effectively accelerate the separation and migration of the photogenerated electrons and holes in ZnIn2S4. Consequently, the Ni/ZnIn2S4 composites exhibit good stability and reusability with highly enhanced visible-light hydrogen production. In particular, the best Ni/ZnIn2S4 photocatalyst exhibits an unprecedented hydrogen production rate of 22.2 mmol·h-1·g-1, 10.6 times that of the pure ZnIn2S4 (2.1 mmol·h-1·g-1). And its apparent quantum yield (AQY) is as high as 56.14% under 450 nm monochromatic light. Our work here suggests that depositing non-precious Ni clusters in ZnIn2S4 is quite promising for the potential practical photocatalysis in solar energy conversion.

Abstract
Absorption is an eminent technology for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) elimination with the merits of high efficiency and low cost. Absorbent plays a critical role in the absorption process, and the thermal stability, saturation capacity, and regeneration performance should be concerned. As a kind of green and eco-friendly solvent, ionic liquid (IL) is expected to be a substitute for the conventional VOCs absorbent. In this study, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([Bmim][PF6]) is employed to absorb the modeling VOCs (toluene and acetone). Moreover, the used [Bmim][PF6] is recovered by thermal distillation and the reusability is then conducted by consecutive batch experiments. Based on that, the thermal stability of [Bmim][PF6] is comprehensively examined, in which the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters are also calculated. Results reveal that [Bmim][PF6] owned promising toluene absorption performance with inlet concentration of 3000 mg/m3 and flow rate of 300 mL/min at 20 °C, it possesses the saturated adsorption capacity of 5.16 mg/g. [Bmim][PF6] also shows satisfying thermal stability up to 610 K. In addition, thermal distillation is proved to be a reliable regeneration route on account of the recovered [Bmim][PF6] remained satisfying capacity even after five cycles.

Abstract
Antibiotic pollution is a major health issue inducing antibiotic resistance and the inefficiency of actual drugs, thus calling for improved methods to clean water and wastewater. Here we review the recent development of heterojunction photocatalysis and application in degrading tetracycline. We discuss mechanisms for separating photogenerated electron-hole pairs in different heterojunction systems such as traditional, p-n, direct Z-scheme, step-scheme, Schottky, and surface heterojunction. Degradation pathways of tetracycline during photocatalysis are presented. We compare the efficiency of tetracycline removal by various heterojunctions using quantum efficiency, space time yield, and figures of merit. Implications for the treatment of antibiotic-contaminated wastewater are discussed.
