Abstract
The present research demonstrates an innovative investigation of environmentally friendly mild steel (M-steel) corrosion inhibition using the artemisia stems aqueous extract (ASAEx) as an inhibitor in hydrochloric acid 1 M. The standard extraction technique of hydrodistillation was used for producing the aqueous solutions of ASAEx. To assess the ratios of the chemical components, phytochemical screening was used to identify the stems of this plant. We used a variety of methods and techniques in our research on corrosion inhibition, including weight loss measures, surface analysis methods like XPS and SEM/EDS, electrochemical testing like PDP and EIS, as well as computational lead compound evaluation. Maximum inhibitory efficacy was achieved with 400 mg/L ASAEx in 1 M HCl at 303 K, i.e. 90%. The PDP investigation verified the mixed-kind inhibitor status of the ASAEx extract. To describe the surface of M-steel, fitting and synthetic data were used to identify a constant phase element (CPE). SEM surface analysis was also used to detect the ASAEx effect on the surface of M-steel. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis shows the presence of trace molecules of ASAEx on M-steel surface characterizing the bands in Maj-ASAEx (major compound of ASAEx). Density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics simulations (MDs) were used in computational chemistry to clarify the adsorption mechanism and inhibitory impact.

Abstract
In the present study, the inhibition performance of some medicinal plants (i.e. Yarrow, Wormwood, Maurorum, Marjoram, and Ribes rubrum) was theoretically and experimentally investigated for mild steel immersed in 1M HCl. In this way, the obtained extracts characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and the electrochemical and theoretical techniques were used to study the inhibition mechanisms of the extracts for the immersed electrode in the acidic solution. In addition, the microstructure of the electrode surface immersed in the blank and inhibitor-containing solutions characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and Violet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy was used to confirm the adsorption of the compounds on the electrode surface. The obtained electrochemical results revealed that the inhibition performance of the green inhibitors increased by increasing their dosage in the electrolyte. In addition, it was proved that Marjoram plant extract possessed the most inhibition efficiency (up to 92%) among the under-studied herbal extracts. Marjoram extract behaved as a mixed-type inhibitor in the hydrochloric acid solution, and the adsorption process of the extract on the steel surface followed the Langmuir adsorption model. Adsorption of the compounds on the steel surface was also studied using density functional theory (DFT), and it was found that the protonated organic compounds in the extract have a high affinity for adsorption on the electrode surface in the acidic solution.

Abstract
The study aims to synthesize two green pyrazole compounds, N-((1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl)-4-nitroaniline (L4) and ethyl 5-methyl-1-(((4-nitrophenyl)amino)methyl)-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate (L6), and test their action as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel (CS) in a 1 M HCl solution. Both chemical and electrochemical methods, namely, gravimetric measurements (WL), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were used to assess the efficiency of the investigated molecules. DFT calculations at B3LYP/6-31++G (d, p) and molecular dynamics simulation were used to carry out quantum chemical calculations in order to link their electronic characteristics with the findings of experiments. The organic products exhibited good anticorrosion ability, with maximum inhibition efficiencies (IE %) of 91.8 and 90.8% for 10-3 M L6 and L4, respectively. In accordance with PDP outcomes, L6 and L4 inhibitors act as mixed-type inhibitors. Assessment of the temperature influence evinces that both L4 and L6 are chemisorbed on CS. The adsorption of L4 and L6 on CS appears to follow the Langmuir isotherm. Scanning electron microscopy and UV-visible disclose the constitution of a barrier layer, limiting the accessibility of corrosive species to the CS surface. Theoretical studies were performed to support the results derived from experimental techniques (WL, PDP, and EIS).

Electrochemical and DFT Studies of the Pistacia Integerrima Gall Extract: An Eco-friendly Approach towards the Corrosion of Steel in Acidic Medium. ACS OMEGA 2024; 9:7643-7657. Abstract
A novel application of the Pistacia integerrima gall extract as an environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor is reported in this study. The major phytochemicals present in the gall extract, namely pistagremic acid, β-sitosterol, pistiphloroglucinyl ether, pistaciaphenyl ester, naringenin, and 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3-dihydrochromen-4-one, play key roles in its anticorrosive behavior on steel in aggressive media. Several approaches were used to study the corrosion prevention activity of steel in 1 M H2SO4, including weight loss analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), and density functional theory (DFT). At 2000 mg L-1, the highest efficiency of 92.19% was observed in 1 M H2SO4. An SEM study was conducted to validate the surface coverage of the metal surface. DFT studies revealed several nucleophilic regions present in the phytochemicals of the inhibitor, which supported the favorable nucleophilicity. Corrosion studies have not been performed on this sample. Phytochemicals make it an effective corrosion inhibitor, and its extraction process utilizes distilled water, making it better than other inhibitors. It has been proven that the obtained values of ΔEInhDFT for pistiphloroglucinyl, pistaciaphenyl ether, and naringenin organic compounds were very low, confirming the high reactivity of these corrosion inhibitors. The order of the values of ΔEInhDFT is as follows: pistaciaphenyl ether > pistiphloroglucinyl ether > naringenin organic compound; this suggests that pistaciaphenyl ether is more reactive than the other compounds. In this study, P. integerrima gall extract emerges as a novel and highly effective corrosion resistance agent in 1 M H2SO4, chosen for its relevance to acid pickling and cleaning processes.

Abstract
Polysaccharide chitosan and L-histidine were applied to synthesize chitosan-based carbon dots (CA-CDs) by a simple laser ablation method. After characterization of the CA-CDs by FT-IR, UV-vis, Raman, XRD, TEM, and XPS, the CA-CDs were introduced as an eco-friendly and high-performance corrosion inhibitor for mild steel (MS) in 1.0 M HCl solution. The inhibition action and mechanism of CA-CDs were determined by weight loss and electrochemical measurements, in combination with SEM, AFM, and XPS. The results show that CA-CDs as mixed-type inhibitors could effectively weaken the corrosion of MS in 1.0 M HCl solution, and their maximum inhibition efficiency reaches 97.4 % at 40 mg L-1. The adsorption behavior of CA-CDs well obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm containing both chemisorption and physisorption. The chemisorption mainly results from the multiple adsorption sites in the CA-CDs, and the physical adsorption is due to the blocking and barrier effect of CA-CD nanoparticles. Both adsorption behaviors were proposed to elucidate the corrosion inhibition mechanism of CA-CDs.

Abstract
Copper corrosion was suppressed when a lupine extract was immersed in a 2 M sulfamic acid (H2NSO3H) solution. Numerous methods, including mass loss (ML), dynamic potential polarization (PL), and electrochemical impedance (EIS), were employed in these experiments, in addition to theoretical computations such as density functional theory (DFT), Fukui function, and Monte Carlo simulations. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to analyze the Cu surface's composition and determine its form. Mass loss (ML) was used to examine the inhibition rate of copper corrosion in sulfamic acid at 25 °C in the presence of lupine extract. After examining how it behaved throughout the adsorption process on copper, it was discovered that it follows the Langmuir isotherm and chemical adsorption. An analysis of the PL curves indicates that the lupine extract is a mixed-type inhibitor. It was shown that the inhibitory efficiency increased to 84.2% with increasing lupine concentration. Additionally, as the data show, the efficiency of inhibitors is diminished by increasing temperatures. Theoretical calculations and experimental data were compared using Monte Carlo simulation (MC) and density functional theory (DFT).

Abstract
It is well known that metal corrosion causes serious economy losses worldwide. One of the most effective ways to prevent corrosion is the continuous development of high-efficient and environment-friendly corrosion inhibitors. Among the widely used organic and inorganic corrosion inhibitors, plant extracts are top candidates due to their nontoxic nature. The present study reports a novel application of the methanolic extract of Terminalia bellerica fruits as an environment friendly corrosion inhibitor for steel in sulphuric acid medium. The phytochemicals of the extract, namely Ellagic, Gallic, and Malic acids, play a key role of the anti-corrosive behavior of the extract. The corrosion prevention activity was studied on the steel in 1 M H2SO4 using a variety of approaches including weight loss analysis (WL), scanning electron microscope (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), density functional theory (DFT), natural bond orbital analysis (NBO), Fukui function and Monte Carlo simulations (MC). In 1 M H2SO4 solution, the maximum electrochemical inhibition efficiency of 91.79% was observed at 4000 mg/L concentration of the extract. The NBO analysis showed that the charge density of the double bonds and the oxygen atoms of carbonyl and hydroxyl groups of the phytochemicals lies on the top of the natural bond orbitals which promotes the anticorrosive properties of the investigated inhibitors. The surface coverage of steel was validated by SEM measurements. According to DFT studies, numerous nucleophilic regions were present in the active phytochemical constituents of the inhibitor, demonstrating their favorable nucleophilicity. The computed electronic structure of the phytochemicals revealed band gaps of 4.813, 5.444, and 7.562 eV for Ellagic, Gallic, and Malic acids respectively suggesting effective metal-inhibitor interactions. A good correlation between experimental and theoretical findings was addressed.

Abstract
In this work, two triazine derivatives (BTT-1 and BTT-2) were synthesized by the simple one-step condensation of three components and used as high-efficient corrosion inhibitors to deal with the corrosion issue of carbon steel (CS) in petroleum industry. Electrochemical tests indicate that both BTT-1 and BTT-2 present superior inhibition performance with the inhibition efficiency of 97.9 % and 98.4 % at a low concentration of 0.18 mM, respectively. Quantum chemical calculations reveal that compared to BTT-1 molecule with a butyl chain, the introduction of benzyl group endows BTT-2 molecule with more adsorption sites, which favors the adsorption of BTT-2 molecule on CS surface. Furthermore, the GFN-xTB calculations demonstrate that BTT-1 and BTT-2 could adsorb on CS surface through the formation of Fe-N and Fe-S bonds. Compared to BTT-1, BTT-2 exhibits stronger adsorption on CS surface by forming more and shorter bonds with a more negative adsorption energy, which accounts for the better inhibitive performance of BTT-2.

Abstract
In this paper, Solanum lyratum leaves were prepared into a corrosion inhibitor by a pure water extraction method. As a natural plant, S. lyratum leaf extract as a corrosion inhibitor has green features. S. lyratum leaf extract (SLLE) can effectively inhibit the corrosion of Cu in H2SO4 solution. The protective effect on copper in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 solution was studied by electrochemical measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and theoretical calculation. These results showed that the maximum corrosion inhibition efficiency (η) of SLLE for copper obtained in the electrochemical measurement at different temperatures is more than 90%. The adsorption of SLLE on copper surfaces conforms to the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model. FTIR and XPS showed the bonding information. SEM and AFM proved that the SLLE can protect the copper from corrosion media. The interaction and inhibition mechanism between the SLLE and copper surface was further revealed at the molecular level by theoretical calculation.

Abstract
In this work, Glucomannan was modified with dopamine to synthesize a new polysaccharide Schiff base (GAD). After confirmation of GAD by NMR and FT-IR spectroscopic methods, it was introduced as a sustainable corrosion inhibitor with excellent anti-corrosion action for mild steel in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution. Employing electrochemical test, morphology measurement, and theoretical analysis, the anticorrosion performance of GAD on mild steel in 0.5 M HCl solution is determined. Maximum efficiency of GAD for suppressing the corrosion rate of mild steel at 0.12 g L-1 reaches 99.0 %. After immersion in HCl solution for 24 h, the results from scanning electron microscopy indicate that GAD is firmly attached to the mild steel surface by making a protective layer. According to the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), FeN bonds existed on the steel surface indicate the presence of chemisorption between GAD and Fe to form stable complexes attracted to the active position on the mild steel. The effects of Schiff base groups on the corrosion inhibition efficiencies were also investigated. Moreover, the inhibition mechanism of GAD was further illustrated by the free Gibbs energy, quantum chemical calculation and molecular dynamics simulation.

Abstract
CONTEXT The inhibitory effect of asparagine (Asn) and its derivatives on iron (Fe) corrosion was studied by performing density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In this paper, the global and local reactivity descriptors of Asn in the protonated and neutral forms were evaluated. Also, the changes in reactivity were investigated when dipeptides were combined with Asn. Due to the increase in the reaction centers within their molecular structure, there was an enhancement in the inhibitory effect of these dipeptides. Moreover, the adsorption energies (Eads) and the adsorption configurations of Asn and small peptides (SPs) with most stability were determined on the surface of Fe(111). It was found that dipeptides had a chemical adsorption on these substrates. In the protonated forms, there was an enhancement in the absolute values of Eads between the inhibitors and the Fe(111) surfaces. Peptides were more likely to be adsorbed on the Fe surfaces, showing the great inhibitory effect of these moieties. The results of the current research demonstrate the possibility of utilizing SPs as efficient "green" corrosion inhibitors. METHODS DFT computations were undertaken by employing the BIOVIA Material Studio with B3LYP-D3 functional and 6-31 + G* basis set. The theoretical evaluation of the inhibitory effect of asparagine (Asn) dipeptides, and the potential analysis of small peptides to protect against the corrosion of Fe, was done.

Abstract
Phosphoric acid is the core material for the fertilizer industry; however, it is incredibly corrosive to manufacturing plants' structures, mainly steel. Corrosion is one of the most severe problems encountered during phosphate fertilizer manufacturing. Recently, plant extracts have been commonly used as corrosion inhibitors because they are cheap and environmentally friendly. Steel corrosion in a 20% aqueous phosphoric acid solution in the absence and presence of fenugreek seed (Fen) or cape gooseberry leaf (CgL) extracts was investigated using the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique, potentiodynamic polarization measurement, scanning electron microscope, and quantum chemical calculations. Fourier Transform Infrared, FTIR, was used to identify the functional groups in Fen and CgL extracts. The inhibition efficiency for steel in 20% aqueous phosphoric acid was roughly equal to 80% for 0.4 g/L CgL and 1.2 g/L Fen extracts. A scanning electron microscope showed that the chemical constituents of extracts block the surface roughness of steel, decreasing the corrosion rate. The activation parameters indicated the effectiveness of the extracts at a higher temperature. Measurements of the potential of zero charges showed that the steel surface is positively charged in the phosphoric acid solution. Quantum chemical computations were also employed to examine the corrosion inhibition mechanisms of the natural extracts.

Abstract
Aizoon extract is used as an eco-friendly anti-corrosive material for stainless steel 430 (SS430) in a 2 M hydrochloric acid solution. Many strategies were utilized to estimate the mitigation efficacy such as mass reduction (MR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP). The inhibition percentage (%I) increases by increasing the concentration of Aizoon and reaches 95.8% at 300 ppm and 298 K, while it lowers by raising the temperature, reaching 85.6% at 318 K. Tafel curves demonstrated that Aizoon extract is a mixed type inhibitor with an excellent ability to inhibit the cathodic reaction. Adsorption of the Aizoon extract on an SS430 surface is regulated by the Langmuir adsorption model. The value is is -20.9 kJ mol-1 at 298 K indicating that the adsorption is of mixed type affecting both cathodic and anodic reactions. Thermodynamic factors for adsorption and activation processes were estimated and discussed. The adsorption of Aizoon extract on the SS430 surface was tested utilizing Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques. The Nyquist curves confirmed that Aizoon extract prohibits the disintegration of SS430 in an acid medium without changing the dissolution reaction mechanism. The theoretical calculations showed that Aizoon extract is considered as an excellent corrosion inhibitor. The experimental data were supported by theoretical evaluations.

Abstract
Most studies on the corrosion inhibition performance of organic molecules and (nano)materials were conducted within “carbon steel/1.0 M HCl” solution system using similar experimental and theoretical methods. As such, the numerous research findings in this system are sufficient to conduct comparative studies to select the best-suited inhibitor type that generally refers to a type of inhibitor with low concentration/high inhibition efficiency, nontoxic properties, and a simple and cost-economic synthesis process. Before data collection, to help readers have a clear understanding of some crucial elements for the evaluation of corrosion inhibition performance, we introduced the mainstay of corrosion inhibitors studies involved, including the corrosion and inhibition mechanism of carbon steel/HCl solution systems, evaluation methods of corrosion inhibition efficiency, adsorption isotherm models, adsorption thermodynamic parameters QC calculations, MD/MC simulations, and the main characterization techniques used. In the classification and statistical analysis section, organic compounds or (nano)materials as corrosion inhibitors were classified into six types according to their molecular structural characteristics, molecular size, and compound source, including drug molecules, ionic liquids, surfactants, plant extracts, polymers, and polymeric nanoparticles. We outlined the important conclusions obtained from recent literature and listed the evaluation methods, characterization techniques, and contrastable experimental data of these types of inhibitors when used for carbon steel corrosion in 1.0 M HCl solution. Finally, statistical analysis was only performed based on these data from carbon steel/1.0 M HCl solution system, from which some conclusions can contribute to reducing the workload of the acquisition of useful information and provide some reference directions for the development of new corrosion inhibitors.

Theoretical, chemical, and electrochemical studies of Equisetum arvense extract as an impactful inhibitor of steel corrosion in 2 M HCl electrolyte. Sci Rep 2022; 12:2255. Abstract
A new type of Equisetum arvense aerial part (EAAP) extract was ready to be tested as a corrosion inhibitor for steel-based parts in Multi-stage flash (MSF) segments while the segments were being acid cleaned. The EAAP extract was identified using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). When compared to the specimen exposed to blank solution, EAAP extract molecules covered about 97% of the carbon steel surface in 2 M HCl solution, and the corrosion rate was reduced to 0.58 ± 0.02 μg cm-2 h-1 at 300 mg l-1. EAAP extract tends to have a blended impact on both anodic and cathodic sites on the surface of carbon steel. The thermodynamic activation factors are substantially higher in the presence of extract solution than in the absent of extract, demonstrating that the carbon steel surface would corrode slowly in the presence of EAAP extract. Theoretical models were used to validate the adsorption of EAAP extract on steel surfaces.

Analysis of the Anti-Corrosion Performance of Dextrin and Its Graft Copolymer on J55 Steel in Acid Solution. Processes (Basel) 2021. Abstract
This paper studies the corrosion inhibition performance and mechanism of dextrin (Dxt) and its graft copolymer with caprolactam (Dxt-g-CPL) on J55 steel in 1 M HCl solution. Caprolactam is grafted and copolymerized with dextrin by a chemical synthesis method, to obtain a dextrin graft copolymer corrosion inhibitor. The composition of the synthesized graft copolymer was characterized by FTIR to identify whether the grafting was successful. Through weightlessness, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization curve (TAFEL), scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and contact angle experiments, the graft copolymer to J55 steel in 1 M HCl solution and the corrosion inhibition performance were evaluated. Moreover, we discuss its corrosion inhibition mechanism. The dextrin graft copolymer has good corrosion inhibition performance for J55 in 1 M HCl solution. When the concentration of the corrosion inhibitor increases, the corrosion inhibition efficiency will also increase. At a certain concentration, when the temperature rises, the corrosion inhibition efficiency will gradually decrease. When the concentration is 300 mg/L, it has a better corrosion inhibition effect, and the corrosion inhibition efficiency is 82.38%. Potential polarization studies have shown that Dxt-g-CPL is a mixed corrosion inhibitor, which inhibits both the cathode and the anode of the electrode reaction. SEM, SECM, and contact angle analysis results show that Dxt-g-CPL can significantly inhibit corrosion. Compared with Dxt, Dxt-g-CPL has a better inhibitory effect.
