Abstract
Gemini surfactants have become the research focus of novel excellent inhibitors because of their special structure (two amphiphilic moieties covalently connected at head group by a spacer) and excellent surface properties. It is proved by theoretical calculations that 1, 3-bis (dodecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride) propane (BDDACP) molecules can perform electron transfer with Fe (110). And it has a small fraction free volume, thus greatly reducing the diffusion and migration degree of corrosive particles. The potentiodynamic polarization curve showed that coefficients of cathodic and anodic reaction less than 1 and polarization resistance increased to 1602.9 Ω cm-2 after added BDDACP, confirming that BDDACP significantly inhibited the corrosion reaction by occupying the active site. The electrochemical impedance spectrum of imperfect semi-circle shows that the system resistance increases and double layer capacitance after added BDDACP. Weight loss tests also confirmed that BDDACP forms protective film by occupying the active sites on steel surface, and the maximum inhibition efficiency is 92 %. Comparison of the microscopic morphology showed that steel surface roughness was significantly reduced after added BDDACP. The results of time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry show that steel surface contains some elements from BDDACP, which confirms the adsorption of BDDACP on steel surface.

Abstract
Low-foaming nonionic gemini surfactants have a wide range of applications in industrial cleaning and photoresist development. In this study, three low-foaming nonionic gemini surfactants (S1, S2, and S3) with different poly(oxyethylene) chain lengths have been synthesized by using methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) and 2,5-di-tert-pentylhydroquinone. The chemical structures of the novel surfactants are confirmed by 1H NMR, Fourier transform infrared, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and their properties such as surface tension, wetting properties, emulsifying properties, and foaming properties are investigated. The surface tension values of S1, S2, and S3 at the critical micelle concentration are 40.29, 37.14, and 41.64 mN/m, exhibiting good surface activity. When the surfactant concentration is higher than 2 mM, the contact angles of S1 and S2 no longer change and can maintain 62 and 64°, showing good wetting properties. In addition, S3 can keep an emulsion state for 2 months at high concentrations, exhibiting good emulsion stability. Furthermore, all the prepared surfactants show good low-foaming properties. The initial foaming volumes of S1 are very low, less than 0.1 mL at various concentrations, less than 2% of the conventional surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate. For S2, the initial foaming volumes at the concentration of 0.1, 1, 2, and 3 g/L are 1, 0.5, 0.55, and 0.45 mL, respectively. For S3, the initial foaming volumes show a general trend of increasing with concentration. The surfactants with longer poly(oxyethylene) chains possess more initial foaming volumes at the same concentration, which is because the greater cohesion between the surfactant molecules can increase the elasticity of the bubble film. Our study enriches the design rationales for low-foaming surfactants and motivates researchers to develop more advanced surfactants for industrial cleaning and photoresist development.

Abstract
In this study, three Gemini cationic surfactants related to thiazol-2-amine with three hydrocarbon chain lengths including 3-hexylthiazol-3-ium (TAC6), 3-dodecylthiazol-3-ium (TAC12) and octadecylthiazol3-ium (TAC18) were prepared. Surfactant structures were confirmed with IR and 1HNMR Spectroscopies. Critical micelle concentrations for all surfactants in 15% DMSO-Water solvent were measured using conductometric, refractometric, and densitometric techniques. Thermodynamics parameters were computed and explained. Also, enhancing properties of all surfactants were indicated under the effect of two concentrations, 0.001 M and 0.01 M, of six inorganic salts including Cl-, Br-, I-, Co+2, Cu+2, and Mn+2 radicals using conductivity and refractive index measurements. All techniques used to measure critical micelles concentration showed a good convergence in measuring CMC values and the behavior of all surfactants in 15% DMSO-water solvent. Increasing the binding constant of the counter ion and association constant reflects the effect of hydrocarbon chain length increment on enhancing micelle formation, where TAC 18 was shown as the lowest CMC in all applied measurements. Modeling the density of all surfactant solutions under study indicates an increase in hydrophobic polarizability with an increase in the molecular weight of the surfactant. Inorganic salts decreased the CMC of all surfactants with the increase in Gibbs free energy of micellization which ensures easier formation of more stable micelles in the presence of a salt solution. The effect of salts on decreasing CMC for all surfactants under study was arranged in the following order: Mn+2 < Cu+2 < Co+2 for cationic radicals and I- < Br- < Cl- for anionic radicals.

Abstract
Heavy metals are particularly damaging contaminants in the environment, and even trace concentrations represent a risk to human health due to their toxicity. To detect the heavy metals of Mn2+ and Co2+ ions, a novel selective reusable paper-based Fluorescence naked-eye sensor based on naphthalene cationic Schiff base (NCSB) was synthesized and confirmed using FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, and MS tools. Based on a blue to colorless color change in the aqueous solution, the NCSB sensor is utilized to Mn2+ and Co2+ cations selectively among other metal ions (Fe2+, Cu2+, Mg2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Hg2+, Pb2+, Sn2+ and Cr3+). In the aqueous medium, the NCSB sensor displayed high sensitivity, with limits of detection (LOD) values of 0.014 µM (14.08 nM) and 0.041 µM (41.47 nM) for Mn2+ and Co2+ cations, respectively. The paper-based sensor naked-eye detected Mn2+ and Co2+ cations in water at concentrations as low as 0.65 µM (65 nM) and 0.086 µM (86 nM), respectively. It was discovered that 5 min of incubation time and a pH range of 7 to 11 were optimal for the complexation reaction between the Mn2+ and Co2+ ions and the NCSB sensor. Through a static quenching process, the interaction of the different metal ions with the Schiff base group in the NCSB molecule results in the development of a ground-state non-fluorescent complex. NCSB sensor was also successfully applied in analysis of Mn2+ and Co2+ in environmental water with good recoveries of 94.8-105.9%. The theoretical calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) studies are in support of experimental interpretations. The links between the input factors and the anticipated response were evaluated using the quadratic model of the response surface methodology (RSM) modeling.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Corrosion is a challenging and potentially harmful process that involves the continuing, impulsive deterioration of metallic structures via reactions involving environmental components and electro- or chemical processes. To inhibit corrosion, various additives are added. Traditional additives, on the other hand, contain environmentally hazardous substances. Surfactants are less expensive, easier to manufacture, and have high inhibitory efficacy and low toxicity compared to standard corrosion inhibitors. They are often employed as corrosion inhibitors to protect metallic materials against corrosion. METHODS Surfactant molecules' amphiphilic nature promotes adsorption at surfaces such as the metal/metal oxide-water interface. Surfactant adsorption on metals and metal oxides forms a barrier that can prevent corrosion. SIGNIFICANT FINDINGS This review of surfactants as corrosion inhibitors aims to offer a systemic evaluation of various surfactant physical and chemical properties, surfactant influence in corrosion inhibition, and surfactant used in corrosion inhibition that can be used to enhance the efficacy of surfactant use as corrosion inhibitors in a variety of environments. The effect of several parameters on the potential to suppress corrosion of surfactant molecule series is also discussed here.

Abstract
This study reports the interfacial phenomenon of cefotaxime in combination with nonionic surfactants, Triton X-100 (TX-100) and Tween-80 (TW-80), and their mixed micellar formulations. Cefotaxime was enclosed in a micellar system to improve its solubility and effectiveness. TX-100 and TW-80 were used in an amphiphilic self-assembly process to create the micellar formulation. The effect of the addition of TX-100, a nonionic surfactant, on the ability of TW-80 to solubilize the drug was examined. The values of the critical micelle concentration (CMC) were determined via UV-Visible spectroscopy. Gibbs free energies (ΔGp and ΔGb), the partition coefficient (Kx), and the binding constant (Kb) were also computed. In a single micellar system, the partition coefficient (Kx) was found to be 33.78 × 106 and 2.78 × 106 in the presence of TX-100 and TW-80, respectively. In a mixed micellar system, the value of the partition coefficient for the CEF/TW-80 system is maximum (5.48 × 106) in the presence of 0.0019 mM of TX-100, which shows that TX-100 significantly enhances the solubilizing power of micelles. It has been demonstrated that these surfactants are effective in enhancing the solubility and bioavailability of therapeutic compounds. This study elaborates on the physicochemical characteristics and solubilization of reactive drugs in single and mixed micellar media. This investigation, conducted in the presence of surfactants, shows a large contribution to the binding process via both hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions.

Abstract
AbstractIn this paper, two novel organic inhibitors, TAP-TPP and TAP-CEQ, were prepared via Schiff base condensation as a green chemistry methodology using an eco-friendly catalyst, ceric ammonium nitrate, with a high yield (87% and 91%), and characterized via elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopic analysis tools. Weight loss assessment was utilized as a chemical testing method, and the maximum inhibition efficiency of TAP-TPP and TAP-CEQ is 89.4% and 91.8%, respectively. PDP and EIS were electrochemical measures to determine the efficacy of both inhibitors as anticorrosion for carbon steel alloys in 2 M HCl aggressive media. The collected electrochemical results demonstrated that both inhibitors behaved as excellent anticorrosion agents for metallic constructions. According to the potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) analysis, these organic inhibitors worked as mixed-type inhibitors. The adsorption isotherm revealed that undertaken compounds obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm with the free energies of adsorption of ranged from ΔG = − 34.29 to − 34.63 kJ Mol−1. Also, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data confirmed that the values charge transfer resistance (Rct) was increased by increasing the concentration of the injected inhibitor molecules. In contrast, the electrochemical double layer (Cdl) was dramatically decreased. The work was supported by two-surface analysis methods such as SEM and EDX. For more details, the values of percentage inhibition efficiency can be ordered as follows: TAP-CEQ > TAP-TPP. Finally, a suitable inhibition mechanism and theoretical studies including EHOMO, ELUMO, diploe moment (µ), and electrophilicity index (ω) were assumed and discussed in detailed.

Abstract
Recently, scientist study the role of surfactants for carbon steel corrosion protection. In the present study, newly tetra-cationic surfactant (CS4: 1,N1'-(ethane-1,2-diyl) bis (N1, N2-didodecyl-N2-(2- (((E)-3-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzylidene)amino)ethyl)ethane-1,2-diaminium) chloride) based on Schiff-base compound(5,5'-((1E,17E)-2,5,8,11,14,17-hexaazaoctadeca-1,17-diene-1,18-diyl)bis(2-methoxyphenol) was synthesised, purified and characterized using FTIR and 1HNMR spectroscopy. The synthesized Tetra-cationic surfactant (CS4) was evaluated as anti-corrosion for carbon steel (CS-metal) in aggressive 1 M HCl using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization techniques (PDP). CS4 compound had a good surface-active property by reducing the surface tension as a result to the hydrophobic chains role. The prepared CS4 behaved as hybrid inhibitor (mixed-type) by blocking the anodic and cathodic sites. CS4 exhibited good inhibition efficiency reached 95.69%. The surface morphology of CS-metal was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)confirming the anti-corrosive effect of CS4 compound returned into the adsorption process of CS4 molecules over CS-metal which obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The inhibitive effect of CS4 was supported by theoretical quantum chemical studies using the density functional theory (DFT), Monte Carlo (MC) and Molecular Dynamic (MD) simulation.

Abstract
Abstract
Designating an organic inhibitor with a specific chemical structure that actively participates in steel protection by increasing adsorption on the steel surface. Based on that, we synthesized three zwitterionic surfactants based on azomethine with different hydrophobic chain lengths labeled ZWSO, ZWSD, and ZWSH. The presence of azomethine group, electrons, and heteroatoms in the zwitterionic surfactant’s amphipathic structure helped to improve C-steel protection. Their inhibitory activity toward steel corrosion was investigated utilizing electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), gravimetrical, and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. Importantly, the surfactant tail influenced corrosion inhibition performance; as surfactant tail length increased, so did inhibition efficiency due to increased adsorption affinity. The inhibition efficiencies of ZWSO, ZWSD, and ZWSH are 87.15, 89.82, and 91.36%, respectively. Tafel data clarified that ZWSO, ZWSD, and ZWSH inhibitors behave as mixed-type inhibitors following the modified Langmuir isotherm. The inhibitors can adsorb physiochemically on the steel surface with ∆G
ads ranges from −38.48 to −44.6 kJ mol−1. The SEM confirms that the morphology of C-steel becomes smoother because of inhibitor adsorption. The DFT and MCs output data supported the experimental performance of the tested ZWSO, ZWSD, and ZWSH inhibitors and especially their dependence on surfactant tail length.

Abstract
Abstract
Steel is involved extensively in engineering vast constructing units in many industries and can undergo to corrosion by some chemical and/or electrochemical reactions with the environment. Therefore, designating an organic inhibitor with a specific chemical structure will participate in steel protection via enhancing their adsorption on the steel surface. Three gemini cationic surfactants based on azomethine with different hydrophobic tails labeled GSBI8, GSBI12, and GSBI16 have been designated and evaluated as corrosion inhibitors utilizing electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), gravimetrical and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. Importantly, the surfactant tail regulated the corrosion inhibition performance; with increasing the surfactant tail length, their inhibition efficiency enhanced because of their higher adsorption affinity. The inhibition efficiency of GSBI8, GSBI12, and GSBI16 reached 95.52, 96.72, and 97.1% respectively (EIS measurements). The Tafel examination clarified that GSBI8, GSBI12, and GSBI16 inhibitors behave as mixed type inhibitors following the modified Langmuir isotherm. The inhibitors adsorption on C-steel was confirmed by SEM surface examination. Finally, the DFT and MCs point of views investigation supported the experimental performance of the tested GSBI8, GSBI12, and GSBI16 inhibitors and specially their dependence on surfactant tail length.

Abstract
HYPOTHESIS It is hypothesized that the performance of a chemical inhibitor to interfere with the precipitation and scaling of calcite (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) is achieved through its chelating interaction with calcium ions. The effectiveness of a chemical inhibitor in removing existing scales from the mineral surfaces is proposed to rely on its ability to modify the calcite crystal structures. EXPERIMENTS Bulk scaling tests and dynamic adsorption experiments using a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring were conducted to systematically investigate the scaling behaviours (i.e., buildup and breakup processes) of calcite crystals, in the absence and presence of chemical inhibitors, that include polyacrylic acid, sodium hexametaphosphate, 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid, and diethylenetriamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid). Scanning electron microscope imaging and thermodynamic characterization using isothermal titration calorimetry were further applied to reveal the surface interactions that contributed to the differences among the effects of the four additives. FINDINGS The results indicate that sodium hexametaphosphate is most efficient in alleviating the amount of CaCO3 deposited by reducing the concentration of free Ca2+, and diethylenetriamine penta(methylene phosphonic acid) shows an outstanding ability to clean the mineral surface by destroying the ordered crystal layers of the scales so that they can be washed away with water. This work provides useful insights into the fundamental interactions of chemical inhibitors and calcite, with implications for the development of effective chemical solutions for anti-scaling and descaling applications.

Abstract
A series of Gemini surfactants with an asymmetric structure (PKO 15-3(OH)-n; n = 12, 14 and 16) were synthesized through a simple two-step reaction consisting of a ring-opening reaction followed by a quaternization reaction. The surface tension measurements indicated that the surface activities of PKO 15-3(OH)-n were higher than those of traditional single-chain and symmetrical Gemini surfactants. The thermodynamic parameters obtained from electrical conductivity measurements showed that the micellization processes of PKO 15-3(OH)-n were spontaneous and entropy-driven. Transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering measurements confirmed that PKO 15-3(OH)-n molecules with a higher asymmetric degree could form vesicles, in which surfactant molecules were interdigitated side-by-side in the vesicle membrane. The obtained results are not in accordance with those calculated from the critical packing theory, which can further complement the theory.

Abstract
Corrosion is the degradation of a metal due to its reaction with the environment. One of the most efficient ways of securing metal surfaces from corrosion is the use of corrosion inhibitors. Their efficacy is connected to their chemical composition, their molecular structures, and their adsorption affinities on the metal surface. This review article focuses on the prospects of different types of monomeric and gemini surfactants, mixed surfactants systems, surfactants- additives mixed systems, inhibitors-surfactants (as additives) mixed systems, and ionic liquid based surfactants as promising corrosion-inhibiting formulations in the aqueous phase and the role of surfactants in developing protective coatings. The analysis starts with an accurate overview of the characteristics, types, and structure-property-performance relationship of anti-corrosion formulations of such inhibitors.

Abstract
SRB is one of the main bacteria causing marine microbial corrosion. In order to reduce the loss of microbial corrosion, a Gemini surfactant (12-B-12) containing semi-rigid spacer was used to investigate the anti-bacterial and anti-corrosion performances of carbon steel in simulated seawater by weight-loss test, electrochemical method and surface morphology analysis. The results showed that the inhibition efficiency of 0.01 mM 12-B-12 was as high as 98.3% after 30 days of incubation in simulated seawater with SRB, and the planktonic and sessile SRB on the carbon steel surface can be reduced to undetectable level. Quantum chemical calculation and molecular dynamics simulation were used to study the structure-activity relationship.
