Abstract
The strong antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria and biofilm, especially the biofilm with extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) protection and persister cells, not only renders antibiotics ineffective but also causes chronic infections and makes the infectious tissue difficult to repair. Considering the acidic properties of bacterial infection microenvironment and biofilm, herein, a binary graphene oxide and copper iron sulfide nanocomposite (GO/CuFeSx NC) is synthesized by a surfactant free strategy and utilized as an alternative smart nanozyme to fight against the MDR bacteria and biofilm. For the GO/CuFeSx NC, the iron decoration facilitates the well distribution of bimetallic CuFeSx NPs on the GO surfaces compared to monometallic CuS NPs, providing synergistically enhanced peroxidase (POD)-like activity in acidic medium (pH 4 ∼ 5) and intrinsic strong near infrared (NIR) light responsive photothermal activity, while the ultrathin and sharp structure of 2D GO nanosheet allows the GO/CuFeSx NC to strongly interact with the bacteria and biofilm, facilitating the catalytic and photothermal attacks on the bacterial surfaces. In addition, the GO in GO/CuFeSx NC exhibits a "Pseudo-Photo-Fenton" effect to promote the ROS generation. Therefore, the GO/CuFeSx NC can effectively kill bacteria and biofilm both in vitro and in vivo, finally eliminating the infections and accelerating the tissue repair when treating the biofilm-infected wound. This work paves a new way to the design of novel nanozyme for smart antibacterial therapy against antimicrobial resistance.

Achieving smartphone-based colorimetric assay for Hg 2+ with a bimetallic site strategy based on Hg 2+-triggered oxidase-like catalytic activity of NSC/Co 6Ni 3S 8 nanocomposite. Abstract
Modulation of the nanozyme's catalytic activity is crucial for its real applications in detecting target analytes. Herein, we fabricated the nanocomposite (NSC/Co6Ni3S8) of N, S co-doped carbon and Co6Ni3S8 by a facile sol-gel approach. Compared to NSC/Ni9S8, NSC/Co6Ni3S8 with bimetallic active sites displayed better enzyme-mimetic activity. This nanocomposite could catalyze O2 to form ·O2- and oxidize colorless 3, 3', 5, 5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into blue oxTMB. The other two free radicals (h+ and ·OH) played minor roles during the catalytic reaction. Hg2+ could integrate with S2- to form HgS and the surface charges of O2 were transferred to Hg2+ to promote O2 adsorption. DFT theoretical calculations highlight that the main reasons for the enhancing effect of Hg2+ on color development results from electron transfer and increased adsorption energy of O2 molecules onto the surface of NSC/Co6Ni3S8. By employing the oxidase-like activity of NSC/Co6Ni3S8 and Hg2+-triggered promoting effect, a colorimetric sensing platform was established for Hg2+ assay with a linear range of 10-200 μg/L and detection limit of 3 μg/L. Through integration with a smartphone-based APP "Thing Identify" software, a visual colorimetric assay for Hg2+ was constructed with a detection limit of 5 μg/L. Compared to the data detected by the mercury vapor meter, the relative recoveries of 92.4-108.1% evidenced the higher accuracy of this smartphone-based visual detection. Overall, the NSC/Co6Ni3S8-based colorimetric assay is convenient, rapid, and visual, and can be applied for routine monitoring of Hg2+ in real-world waters under outdoor conditions.

Abstract
We fabricated a novel N,S-co-doped carbon/Co1-xS nanocomposite (NSC/Co1-xS) using a facile sol-gel approach, which featured a multiporous structure, abundant S vacancies and Co-S nanoparticles filling the carbon-layer pores. When the Co1-xS nanoparticles were anchored onto the surface of N,S-co-doped carbon, a synergistic catalysis action occurred. The NSC/Co1-xS nanocomposites possessed both peroxidase-like and oxidase-mimetic dual-enzyme activities, in which the oxidase-mimetic activity dominated. By scavenger capture tests, the nanozyme was demonstrated to catalyze H2O2 to produce h+, •OH and •O2-, among which the strongest and weakest signals were h+ and •OH, respectively. The multi-valence states of Co atoms in the NSC/Co1-xS structure facilitated electronic transfer that enhanced redox reactions, thereby improving the resultant color reaction. Based on the NSC/Co1-xS's enzyme-mimetic catalytic reaction, a visual colorimetric assay and Android "Thing Identify" application (app), installed on a smartphone, offered detection limits of 1.93 and 2.51 mg/dl, respectively, in human serum samples. The selectivity/interference experiments, using fortified macromolecules and metal ions, demonstrated that this sensor had high selectivity and low interference potential for cholesterol analysis. Compared to standard assay kits and previously reported visual detection, the Android smartphone-based assays provided higher accuracy (recoveries up to 93.6-104.1%), feasibility for trace-level detection, and more convenient on-site application for cholesterol assay due to the superior enzymatic activity of NSC/Co1-xS. These compelling performance metrics lead us to posit that the NSC/Co1-xS-based nanozymic sensor offers a promising methodology for several practical applications, such as point-of-care diagnosis and workplace health evaluations.

Abstract
Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are highly active enzyme-like catalysts. However, low stability is still a big challenge for Fe3O4-based enzyme mimics because the Fe3O4 MNPs can be easily dissolved when exposed to acidic conditions. Inspired by the numerous catalytic sites of a flower-like structure and the biological functions of amino acids in structural proteins, herein, by employing keratin as a protein component, stable Fe3O4-based MNP embedded keratin-Cu3(PO4)2 nanoflowers were constructed, from which hierarchical nanostructures with a three-dimensional petal-like morphology were selected for subsequent studies owing to their excellent enzymic catalytic activity. The keratin-nanoflower@Fe3O4 exhibited significantly enhanced catalytic activity compared with that of keratin-Cu3(PO4)2 nanoflowers and individual Fe3O4 MNPs. Remarkably, keratin-nanoflower@Fe3O4 exhibited superior long-term stability to Fe3O4 MNPs under more acidic conditions and favorable reusability. This method has been successfully exploited for the colorimetric determination of glucose in human serum with satisfactory sensitivity and specificity, offering a novel approach for glucose detection.

Abstract
Novel hierarchical CuNiAl layered double hydroxide (CuNiAl LDH) nanotubes were prepared with in situ transformation of Al2O3 produced using the atomic layer deposition (ALD) method. Based on the characterizations using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), FT-IR spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), CuNiAl LDH displays a typical nanotube-like structure consisting of uniform ultrathin nanoflakes. It is also confirmed that nitrate precursors play a crucial role in the formation of the LDH hierarchical structure. The unique hierarchical tube-like structure for CuNiAl LDH can supply more active sites and higher surface areas, leading to outstanding peroxidase mimicking property. The kinetic analyses indicate that the catalytic behavior of CuNiAl LDH follows classic Michaelis-Menten models and the affinity of CuNiAl LDH to the substrate is significantly higher than horseradish peroxidase. A simple and label-free method was developed for the colorimetric detection of glucose. As low as 2.9 μM of glucose can be detected with a broad linear range from 10 to 200 μM. The established method is also proved to be suitable for glucose detection in juice samples.

Abstract
A non-enzymatic ascorbic acid sensor using a nickel ferrite/PANI (NF-PANI) nanocomposite and based on colorimetric and electrochemical sensing methods was investigated in this study. The nanocomposite was prepared by an in situ polymerization and utilized as an electrocatalyst to sense ascorbic acid (AA) through the peroxidase mimic sensing of H2O2 in the presence of 3,5,3,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) as a coloring agent. It was also utilized to detect AA present in real samples prepared from fruit extracts, commercial beverages, and vitamin-C tablets. The limit of detection (LoD) for AA sensing by the peroxidase mimic method was found to be 232 nM. The relative standard deviation (RSD) calculated for analysis of the real samples analysis ranged from 1.7-3.2%. Similarly, the electrochemical sensing of AA by NF-PANI was examined by cyclic voltammetric, chronoamperometric, and differential pulse voltammetric analyses. The LoD for the electrochemical method applied to AA sensing was 423 nM. The nanocomposite functioned as an effective electrocatalytic sensing agent in both methods to selectively detect AA due to the combined effect of NF and PANI. Thus, it was shown that the nanocomposites could be utilized for the laboratory-based detection of AA by various methods and could give rapid results.

Photoelectrochemical aptasensor for thrombin based on Au-rGO-CuS as signal amplification elements. Mikrochim Acta 2020; 187:433. Abstract
A photoelectrochemical platform for thrombin determination was developed based on Au-rGO-CuS as multiple signal amplification elements. CuInS2 QDs was used to sensitize burr-shape TiO2 (b-TiO2) to obtain a strong photocurrent. Under the specific recognition between aptamer and thrombin, a sandwichlike structure was formed and the Au-rGO-CuS-labeled aptamer (S2@Au-rGO-CuS) was immobilized on the electrode surface. This induced a sharp decrease in photocurrent. The phenomenon is mainly due to the fact that CuS NPs can competitively consume the light energy and electron donor with CuInS2/b-TiO2. The rGO can increase the amount of CuS NPs and the Au NPs can accelerate charge transferring which depress the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes in CuS to further enhance the competitive capacity of CuS. The sandwichlike structure has a steric hindrance effect. Therefore, the S2@Au-rGO-CuS has a multiple signal amplification function for thrombin determination. Under optimal conditions, the PEC aptasensor exhibited a wide linear concentration range from 0.1 pM to 10 nM with a low detection limit of 30 fM (S/N = 3) for thrombin. Besides, the designed aptasensor performed well in the assay of human serum sample, indicating good potential for the determination of thrombin in real samples. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a light-based modality for tumor treatment that involves the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by the combination of light, a photosensitizer, and molecular oxygen. Nevertheless, the therapeutic effects of PDT are limited by hypoxic conditions that worsen with oxygen consumption during the PDT process. Photo/chemodynamic therapy (PCDT) based on the Fenton reaction is one strategy to improve ROS generation, provided a highly effective Fenton reagent is developed. In this research, SiO2@Cu7S4 nanotubes (NTs) were synthesized as a PCDT agent. This double-valence metal-sulfide composite material can react with H2O2 at the tumor site. SiO2@Cu7S4 NTs can produce more ROS than the traditional PDT agents, and besides, they can also be used as a photothermal therapy (PTT) agent. SiO2@Cu7S4 NTs will trigger the PTT effect under 808 nm irradiation and generate a large amount of heat to eradicate cancer cells. This heat will also promote the PCDT effect by increasing the reaction rate. Thus, the SiO2@Cu7S4 NT is a suitable material for PCDT and PTT synergistic oncotherapy. The 808 nm laser is selected as the appropriate excitation source, providing adequate penetration and minimal harm to normal cells. The experimental data presented herein demonstrate the promising photosensitive, Fenton-like, and photothermal performance of SiO2@Cu7S4 NTs. Furthermore, the findings could promote the development of PCDT and PTT synergistic therapy. Thus, this research provides a feasible method to design a single, multifunctional material for cancer treatment.

Abstract
Papain, a natural plant protease that exists in the latex of Carica papaya, catalyzes the hydrolysis of peptide, ester and amide bonds. In this work, we found that papain displayed peroxidase-like activity and catalyzed the oxidation of 3,3',5',5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of H2O2. This results in the formation of a blue colored product with an absorption maximum at 652 nm. The effects of experimental parameters including pH and reaction temperature on catalytic activity of papain were investigated. The increase of absorbance induced by the catalytic effect of papain offers accurate detection of H2O2 in the range of 5.00-90.0 μM, along with a detection limit of 2.10 μM. A facile colorimetric method for glucose detection was also proposed by combining the glucose oxidase (GOx)-catalyzed glucose oxidation and papain-catalyzed TMB oxidation, which exhibited a linear response in the range of 0.05-0.50 mM with a detection limit of 0.025 mM. The method proposed here displayed excellent selectivity, indicating that common coexisting substances (urea, uric acid, ascorbic acid, maltose, lactose and fructose) in urine did not interfere with detection of glucose. More importantly, the suggested method was successfully used to precisely detect the glucose concentration in human urine samples with recoveries over 96.0%.
