Abstract
BACKGROUND The study aimed to investigate the effect of health literacy and patient activation on health-seeking behaviour. In addition, the role of general health status and age variables in this effect was also addressed. METHODS The research using quantitative methods is cross-sectional. The participant information form, health literacy scale, patient activation scale and health-seeking behaviour scale were used in the study. In addition to descriptive analyses, difference analysis, correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used in the study. The study participants consisted of 1045 adult individuals living in Turkey. RESULTS According to the correlation analysis results, it was determined that health literacy and patient activation were significantly positively associated with health-seeking behaviour. According to multiple linear regression analysis, the independent variables of health literacy, patient activation, age and general health status significantly affected health-seeking behaviour. Accordingly, patient activation and general health status positively affect health-seeking behaviour, while health literacy and age have a negative effect. CONCLUSION To positively improve individuals' health-seeking behaviours, it is thought that it would be appropriate to focus on individuals whose general health status is not good, who are not actively involved in their treatment, who have high health literacy and who are elderly. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Since the research examines the effect of patient activation and health literacy on health-seeking behaviour, it is of great importance for the research that the public and patients are included in the study from the design of the research to the presentation of the findings. The emergence of the study was made possible by the public and patients' evaluations of the research topics and their participation in the survey.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although many health information seeking studies are concerned with longer range outcomes (e.g. patient-provider communication) the immediate outcomes for the searchers are whether they found the desired information, for whom and how successfully. OBJECTIVES To examine the association between health information seeking via various sources and the reported extent of success in getting the desired information the information needs perspective. METHODS Data were obtained from the 2017 Israel Social Survey and analysed using multinomial regression models. The sample included individuals who reported engaging in seeking health information prior to the survey and mentioned the extent of success in obtaining the desired health information (fully, partially, or not-at-all) (N = 2197). Multinominal regression technique served for the multivariable analysis. DISCUSSION Engagement in health information seeking via friends, family and using various websites (excluding those by Ministry of Health and Health Funds) was associated with the increased likelihood of partial success in getting the desired information. Education level and population group, affected level of success. CONCLUSIONS The (partial) success in meeting health consumers' information needs is associated with the turn to particular sources. Public health professionals and health provider institutions should improve provision and delivery of health information to meet consumer health information needs.

Abstract
Background Social networking site use and social network-based health information seeking behavior have proliferated to the point that the lines between seeking health information from credible social network-based sources and the decision to seek medical care or attempt to treat oneself have become blurred. Objective We contribute to emerging research on health information seeking behavior by investigating demographic factors, social media use for health information seeking purposes, and the relationship between health information seeking and occurrences of self-treatment. Methods Data were collected from an online survey in which participants were asked to describe sociodemographic factors about themselves, social media use patterns, perceptions about their motivations for health information seeking on social media platforms, and whether or not they attempted self-treatment after their social media-related health information seeking. We conducted a binomial logistic regression with self-treatment as a dichotomous categorical dependent variable. Results Results indicate that significant predictors of self-treatment based on information obtained from social networking sites include race, exercise frequency, and degree of trust in the health-related information received. Conclusions With an understanding of how sociodemographic factors might influence the decision to self-treat based on information obtained from social networking sites, health care providers can assist patients by educating them on credible social network-based sources of health information and discussing the importance of seeking medical advice from a health care provider.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Complications after pancreatectomies contribute to poor outcomes. Patients are expected to identify signs/symptoms leading to these complications but may be poorly educated on how to identify them. We assessed the impact of an educational tool on patient perceptions of, and satisfaction with the discharge process, and its effect on readmission rates. METHODS A prospective cohort study with retrospective chart review including patients who underwent pancreatic resection was undertaken. An interactive educational module (iBook) that provided information about the procedure, possible complications, and peri-discharge information was implemented. English-speaking patients were equally divided into the pre- and post-iBook cohorts. Primary outcome was patients' satisfaction with discharge; Secondary outcomes were 30- and 90-day readmission rates. RESULTS 100 patients were included. Mean age was 65.5 ± 12.6, 46% were female, and 92.3% were white. Most patients underwent Whipple procedures (72%), and distal pancreatectomies (26%). In the post-implementation group, 92% were satisfied with the discharge process, and 89% reported it was a good tool. There were no statistical differences in 30- and 90-day readmission rates between cohorts. CONCLUSION The iBook positively impacted patients' satisfaction and preparedness for discharge. Readmission rates were not statistically significantly impacted but could be investigated with further studies of greater sample sizes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Our working group has developed a set of quality assessment tools for different types of patient information material. In this paper we review and evaluate these tools and their development process over the past eight years. METHODS We compared the content and structure of quality assessment tools for websites, patient decision aids (PDAs), question prompt lists (QPLs), and videos. Using data from their various applications, we calculated inter-rater concordance using Kendall's W. RESULTS The assessment tools differ in content, structure and length, but many core aspects remained throughout the development over time. We found a relatively large variance regarding the amount of quality aspects combined into one item, which may influence the weighting of those aspects in the final scores of evaluated material. Inter-rater concordance was good in almost all applications of the tool. Subgroups of similar expertise showed higher concordance rates than the overall agreement. CONCLUSION All four assessment tools are ready to be used by people of different expertise. However, varying expertise may lead to some differences in the resulting assessments when using the tools. The lay and patient perspective needs to be further explored and taken into close consideration when refining the instruments.

Abstract
Objective This systematic review aimed to provide a global picture of information-seeking behavior, source information used, and its associated factors. Methods This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses steps. Databases such as PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, World Health Organization libraries, and Google Scholar were used to search all published articles. Articles on COVID-19 information-seeking behavior published until November 04, 2021, and the use of the English language was included. Two independent reviewers did the article selection and quality check. Results For this systematic review, twenty articles were included in the final report. Information-seeking behavior was associated with digital health literacy, online information sources, and socio-demographic factors. The major sources of health information during the COVID-19 pandemic were digital media, television, public health portals like the world health organization, and center for communicable disease and prevention websites. Conclusion This systematic review provides a valuable overview of available information on information-seeking behavior regarding COVID-19 globally. The studies used a heterogeneous study population, various research techniques, and various research questions. Digital literacy and online information sources play a vital role in information-seeking behavior.

Abstract
AIMS To explore the relationship between patient activation (subjective initiative of patients to participate in disease management in self-health care), social support, self-efficacy and online health information seeking among older patients with coronary heart disease. DESIGN A cross-sectional and survey-based design. METHODS A total of 451 older patients with coronary heart disease were recruited from July to November 2021 from four communities in Qingdao, China. We collected data using the Patient Activation Measure, Social Support Rating Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale and Online Health Information Seeking Scale. We performed structural equation modelling to analyse the data. RESULTS The final model showed good model fit. Patient activation influenced online health information seeking directly (β = .39, p < .05) and indirectly through self-efficacy (β = .17, p < .05). Social support influenced online health information seeking directly (β = .23, p < .05) and indirectly through self-efficacy (β = .03, p < .05). Self-efficacy directly influenced online health information seeking (β = .26, p < .05). CONCLUSIONS We identified the interrelationships of patient activation, social support and self-efficacy and their influence on the online health information seeking of older patients with coronary heart disease. Our findings provide a theoretical basis for developing and evaluating interventions to enhance online health information seeking for older patients with coronary heart disease. IMPACT These findings add a better understanding of the relationship between patient activation, social support, self-efficacy and online health information seeking in older patients with coronary heart disease, and help community health workers to intervene in the early stage of disease diagnosis.

Abstract
Background
Access to mental health treatment across Canada remains a challenge, with many reporting unmet care needs. National and provincial e-Mental health (eMH) programs have been developed over the past decade across Canada, with many more emerging during COVID-19 in an attempt to reduce barriers related to geography, isolation, transportation, physical disability, and availability.
Objective
The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with the utilization of eMH services across Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic using Andersen and Newman’s framework of health service utilization.
Methods
This study used data gathered from the 2021 Canadian Digital Health Survey, a cross-sectional, web-based survey of 12,052 Canadians aged 16 years and older with internet access. Bivariate associations between the use of eMH services and health service utilization factors (predisposing, enabling, illness level) of survey respondents were assessed using χ2 tests for categorical variables and t tests for the continuous variable. Logistic regression was used to predict the probability of using eMH services given the respondents’ predisposing, enabling, and illness-level factors while adjusting for respondents’ age and gender.
Results
The proportion of eMH service users among survey respondents was small (883/12,052, 7.33%). Results from the logistic regression suggest that users of eMH services were likely to be those with regular family physician access (odds ratio [OR] 1.57, P=.02), living in nonrural communities (OR 1.08, P<.001), having undergraduate (OR 1.40, P=.001) or postgraduate (OR 1.48, P=.003) education, and being eHealth literate (OR 1.05, P<.001). Those with lower eMH usage were less likely to speak English at home (OR 0.06, P<.001).
Conclusions
Our study provides empirical evidence on the impact of individual health utilization factors on the use of eMH among Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the opportunities and promise of eMH services in increasing access to care, future digital interventions should both tailor themselves toward users of these services and consider awareness campaigns to reach nonusers. Future research should also focus on understanding the reasons behind the use and nonuse of eMH services.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore whether social support indirectly influences patient activation through self-efficacy in older adults living with coronary heart disease. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted. Older patients (n=451) from four communities in the city of Qingdao completed a questionnaire survey. We conducted multiple linear regression models and bootstrap testing to assess the relationships among social support, self-efficacy, and patient activation. RESULTS Patient activation was positively correlated with social support (r = 0.524, P < 0.01) and with self-efficacy (r = 0.740, P < 0.01). The of social support had indirect positive effect on patient activation through self-efficacy and the effect was 58.8%. CONCLUSIONS We identified the critical role of social support and self-efficacy for the activation of community-dwelling older patients living with coronary heart disease. Our findings provide essential knowledge for developing and evaluating effective interventions to promote patient activation and enhance self-management of coronary heart disease.

Abstract
Objective This paper aims to explore the influence mechanisms of online health information-seeking behavior (OHISB) on doctor-patient interactions from a psychological perspective, using theory as a guide, which can effectively guide the mode of doctor-patient interaction after search behavior in China. Methods We conducted a convenient web-based survey among members of the public who engage in searching behavior in China using a pretested structured questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was performed for path analysis and mediating effect testing. Results The findings of the study show that (1) 4 control variables (education level, occupation, income, and diagnosed disease) had significant differences in online health information-seeking behavior; 7 control variables (age, gender, living area, education level, occupation, income, medical insurance) were significantly different in doctor-patient interaction behaviors. (2) perceived disease severity (95% CI: 0.003, 0.04, P < 0.001), perceived action benefits (95% CI: 0.059, 0.138, P < 0.001), and e-health literacy (95% CI: 0.061, 0.155, P < 0.001) were positive predictors between OHISB and doctor-patient interactions. (2) E-health literacy and perceived disease severity (95% CI: 0.001, 0.013, P < 0.05), and e-health literacy and perceived action benefits (95% CI: 0.082, 0.166, P < 0.001) play chain mediating roles between OHISB and doctor-patient interactions. Conclusions E-health literacy, perceived disease severity, and perceived action benefits act as chain mediators between OHISB and doctor-patient interactions.

Abstract
During crises and uncertain situations such as the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, social media plays a key function because it allows people to seek and share news, as well as personal views and ideas with each other in real time globally. Past research has highlighted the implications of social media during disease outbreaks; nevertheless, this study refers to the possible negative effects of social media usage by individuals in the developing country during the COVID-19 epidemic lockdown. Specifically, this study investigates the COVID-19 fear using the survey data collected from a developing country. In total, 880 entries were used to analyze the COVID-19 fear using the AMOS software. Findings indicated that information-seeking and sharing behavior of individuals on social media has a significant impact on perceived COVID-19 information overload. Perceived COVID-19 information overload has a positive impact on COVID-19 fear. In addition, fake news related to COVID-19 strengthens the relationship between perceived COVID-19 information overload and COVID-19 fear. The implication and limitations of the study are also discussed in the final section of the study.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVE The patient activation measure (PAM) is considered a reliable tool for measuring patient activation. This study aimed to systematically review the scientific literature regarding the use of PAM -13 in rheumatology patients and to compare PAM scores in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) following two different practices at a single institution with previously published studies. METHODS The study consisted of a systematic review of articles reporting the PAM-13 in patients with RA, followed by a cross-sectional study evaluating PAM scores between standard rheumatology clinics and specialized rheumatology clinics (SRCs). The correlation between PAM levels and other variables, such as demographics, disease characteristics, and treatment, was assessed. RESULTS Nineteen studies, published between 2012 and 2022, met the inclusion criteria. The studies in this review had inconsistent results and quality, with patient activation in RA ranging from 29 to 76. A total of 197 patients with confirmed RA diagnoses were interviewed (response rate, 88%). Most were female (n=173, 88%) and older than 40 years (n=150, 76%). The average patient activation score was 64.9 (standard deviation, 15.7). Most participants had level 3 and 4 patient activation measures (n=71 [36%] and n=72[37%], respectively). Patients who were attending SRCs also had borderline higher PAM levels. Patients with high PAM scores tended to be older, have active disease, and were taking corticosteroids. CONCLUSION Adequate activation of patients was observed from our center, which was higher than that reported in most published literature. The PAM of patients with RA was variable according to the systematic review. Longitudinal interventional studies should be considered to improve activation in patients with low scores.

Abstract
Background The evidence of the impact of online health information-seeking (OHIS) on
health outcomes has been conflicting. OHIS is increasingly recognised as a
factor influencing health behaviour but the impact of OHIS on medication
adherence remains unclear. Objectives We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the
associations between OHIS and medication adherence. Methods We searched Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL and Psychology
and Behavioural Science Collection for studies published up to December
2020. The inclusion criteria were studies that reported the associations of
OHIS and medication adherence, quantitative design, reported primary data
only, related to any health condition where medications are used and
conducted on patients either in clinical or community settings. A
meta-analysis was used to examine the association between OHIS and
medication adherence. Results A total of 17 studies involving 24,890 patients were included in this review.
The study designs and results were mixed. In the meta-analysis, there was no
significant association (n = 7, OR 1.356, 95% CI 0.793-2.322, p = 0.265), or
correlation (n = 4, r = -0.085, 95% CI −0.572-0.446, p = 0.768) between OHIS
and medication adherence. In the sub-group analysis of people living with
HIV/AIDS, OHIS was associated with better medication adherence (OR 1.612,
95% CI 1.266-2.054, p < 0.001). Conclusions The current evidence of an association between OHIS and medication adherence
is inconclusive. This review highlights methodological issues on how to
measure OHIS objectively and calls for in-depth exploration of how OHIS
affects health decisions and behaviour.

Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of citizens' behaviors in the containment of the virus. Individuals might change their intention to adhere to public health prescriptions depending on various personal characteristics, including their own emotional status, which has been recognized to be a crucial psychological factor in orienting people's adherence to public health recommendation during emergency settings. In particular, it is crucial to support citizens' alliance with authorities and feeling of trust: public engagement is a concept that refers to the general involvement of citizens into public affairs which is generally considered an effective approach to enhance citizens' understanding of their crucial role in public affairs. However, so far there is no agreement on the metrics and indexes that should be used to measures public engagement during a health crisis. The aim of this paper is to validate a psychometric scale (PHEs-E), which intends to measure the readiness of individuals to adhere to the prescribed behavioral change to contain the emergency. Data were collected throughout the pandemic in Italy: in particular, five independent samples were recruited starting from March 2020 to March 2021. Results showed that the proposed measure has good psychometric characteristics. A general linear model was computed to assess the differences of public engagement across the different data points and among citizens with different sociodemographic characteristics. Correlations with other psychological constructs (i.e. Anxiety, Depression and Self-Efficacy) were also tested, showing that more engaged citizens have a lower level of anxiety and depression, and a higher self-efficacy. This study's findings indicate that individuals' characteristics may differentiate citizens' motivation to engage in public health behavioral recommendation to prevent the COVID-19 contagion. However the scale could be useful to perform a psychological monitoring of psychological readiness to engage in public health strategies to face critical events and settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of a self-management program on activation and inner strength in patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). METHODS This study assigned 86 patients with CVDs to an experimental and a comparison group utilizing alternate allocation based on a quasi-experimental design. The experimental group participated in a self-management program based on a theoretical framework in three stages, i.e. orientation-recognition, reinforcing-engaging and monitoring-follow-up; whereas the comparison group received routine care. The supportive program was administered through holding five individual face-to-face sessions, providing educational booklets and performing four phone-call follow-ups during three months after discharge. The outcomes were measured using the patient activation measure (PAM) and the inner strength scale (ISS). RESULTS The between group analysis indicated a statistically-significant difference in the mean score of patient activation (P < 0.001) in the two groups. Nevertheless, there was not a statistically-insignificant difference in the mean score of inner strength between the two groups (P < 0.104). CONCLUSION Although a three-month nurse-led self-management support program was found to improve patient activation levels, it was ineffective in promoting inner strength. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Psychosocial dynamics should be integrated in providing self-management program by nurses. To promote patient activation, tailored consultations is recommended.

Abstract
With regard to platform performance and trust, we study the influencing factors of users’ intention to pay on an online medical service platform. Results of this paper will provide a new perspective for online medical service platform research in the context of the Internet.A questionnaire survey is administered to collect 312 effective sample data, and the data are analyzed by partial least squares structural equation modeling. Results showed that the information quality, system quality, and convenience of the platform significantly affect the perceived benefit (PB) of users. Users’ perceived reliability of the platform significantly positively affects doctor reliability (DR). Users’ PB significantly positively affects their ITP and DR, and DR significantly positively affects the users’ ITP. The misdiagnosis risk positively regulates the relationship between the users’ trust tendency and DR. The timeliness of the response of the platform positively adjusts the relationship between DR and users’ ITP.

Abstract
PurposeThis study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the types and sources of information sought by older adults along with their motivations in the Midwestern United States.Design/methodology/approachInterviews were conducted with 30 older adults residing in rural communities around the Midwestern United States during late-summer (July/August) 2020, using a protocol based on Dervin's Sense-Making Methodology. The resulting data was analyzed using standard content analysis procedures, guided by the theoretical frameworks based on Dervin's Sense-Making and Williamson's Ecological Model of Information Behavior. Implications of COVID-19 for the normative behaviors described in these models are discussed.FindingsFindings show that older adults were concerned primarily with health and political information during this period, but that this information was not necessarily sought only to address an informational need, but also to satisfy the need to maintain social and emotional connections in coping with isolation and loneliness. Sources of information that allowed for social interaction with people were favored. Wider personal networks (community members) were strained by the social distancing measures and closures. These findings have theoretical and practical implications for considering the impact of social restrictions on information seeking behaviors of older adults in a time of crisis.Originality/valueThis study is the first, known to the authors, that applied the two adopted theoretical frameworks to explore information seeking behaviors of older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
This research was conducted to determine the effect of computer-based discharge training on patients with lumbar disc surgery on self-care agency and independence in daily living activities. A randomized controlled study was conducted on 60 patients, 30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. Computer-based lumbar disc surgery discharge training and a CD containing the training content were given to the intervention group after the surgery, whereas the control group received routine discharge training in the ward. The data of the study were collected using a Patient Information Form, the modified Barthel Index, and the Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale. The increase in the modified Barthel Index and Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale scores after training in the intervention and control groups were statistically significant (P < .001). The increase in Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale scores after the training was found to be higher in the intervention group than in the control group. There was no difference between the modified Barthel Index mean scores before and after the training between the groups (P > .05). Computer-based discharge training improved the participants' independence in their daily living activities and increased the self-care power of the patients compared with the control group.

Abstract
The present review aims to map the current literature on educational interventions to promote food literacy in type 2 diabetes, with a particular focus on the concept of patient engagement. The systematic review was implemented on five databases with no restrictions on the publication year. The studies selected for the review were focused on patients with type 2 diabetes, ranging from 2003 to 2021 and published in 13 countries (44% USA). Thirty-three articles were analyzed. Twenty-seven articles targeted singular patients; fifteen articles conceptualized patient engagement as self-management. In seven articles, the provider is a multidisciplinary team. Twenty articles did not report a theoretical framework in the intervention development, and eleven did not use an intervention material. Twenty-six articles did not use a technology proxy. Outcome categories were narratively mapped into four areas: clinical, psychological, behavioral, and literacy. To date, most of the interventions are heterogeneous in the adopted methodology, measures, and outcomes considered. More attention should be given to the psychosocial characterization of patient engagement as well as the technological support. High-quality, randomized controlled trials and longitudinal studies are lacking and need to be conducted to verify the efficacy of these insights.

Abstract
Patients' online access to their EHR together with the rapid proliferation of medical information on the Internet has changed how patients use information to learn about their health. Patients' tendency to turn to the Internet to find information about their health and care is well-documented. However, little is known about patients' information seeking behavior when using online EHRs. By using information horizons as an analytical tool this paper aims to investigate the information behavior of cancer patients who have chosen to view their EHRs (readers) and to those who have not made that option (non-readers). Thirty interviews were conducted with patients. Based on information horizons, it seems that non-reading is associated with living in a narrower information world in comparison to readers. The findings do not suggest that the smallness would be a result of active avoidance of information, or that it would be counterproductive for the patients. The findings suggest, however, that EHRs would benefit from comprehensive linking to authoritative health information sources to help users to understand their contents. In parallel, healthcare professionals should be more aware of their personal role as a key source of health information to those who choose not to read their EHRs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES to analyze health professionals' perception about the meaning and practice of patient involvement in care safety in Primary Health Care. METHODS this is an exploratory, qualitative study, developed with 22 professionals in the Federal District, Brazil. A semi-structured interview was conducted between October and November/2018. Content analysis was carried out according to Bardin. RESULTS nurses, physicians, dentists, among others, participated. The following categories emerged: Meaning of patient involvement in care safety; Factors intervening in patient involvement in care safety; Strategies for patient involvement in care safety; Qualification for patient involvement in care safety. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS the meaning of patient involvement for care safety was associated with co-responsibility and patient-centered care. Professionals' practice revealed intervening factors and the use of involvement strategies. A gap was identified in training on patient involvement in care safety.

Abstract
Aim This study aimed to explore the current status of e-health literacy among Chinese older adults, and to summarize and analyze the related influencing factors. Subject and methods Following the PRISMA Checklist, we searched MEDLINE, CINAHL Complete (EBSCO), PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang Data, and China Science and Technology Journal Database to identify the relevant literature published between January 2000 and December 2020. The Mixed Methods Assessment Tool (MMAT) was used to appraise the quality of the studies. Results Five articles were included for the systematic review. The results showed that the e-health literacy of Chinese older adults was low. Based on the social-ecological model, the influencing factors at the individual level included age, gender, educational attainment, socioeconomic status, physical and psychological conditions, frequency of internet use, and credibility perception of online health resources; at the interpersonal level, the influencing factors included marital status, being the family carer and being taught how to use internet to find health resources; at the social/community level, influencing factors included language barriers and cultural barriers. Conclusion Current e-health literacy among Chinese older adults is low, which is affected by a number of factors. Medical staff should provide detailed health information with guaranteed accuracy and reliability for elderly people. It is necessary to develop intervention programs tailored to varied educational needs of the elderly with different backgrounds (i.e., age, gender, educational attainment, and socioeconomic status) need to be developed in the near future. Family members are encouraged to teach older adults how to use e-health resource in appropriate ways.

Abstract
Background Factors affecting the adoption and use of eHealth applications have been extensively researched from different perspectives in different regions. However, with the changing circumstances (e.g. the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic), new influencing factors might evolve and can influence the attitudes of consumers towards using eHealth applications. The purpose of this study was to identify and evaluate the evolving factors affecting consumer attitudes towards the use of eHealth applications and provide implications for the future of Neom. Methods An online survey questionnaire was used to collect data from 976 eHealth consumers in Saudi Arabia, which included 527 male and 449 female participants. Findings were analysed using the statistical means and standard deviations for each item in the questionnaire to analyse the role of each factor in depth. Statistical t-tests were used to identify significant differences between the groups categorised by age and gender. Results ‘Necessity but not interest’ (mean 4.5 [standard deviation {SD} 1.12]) and fear (mean 4.5 [SD 1.13]) and psychological factors including depression (mean 4.4 [SD 1.54]), stress (mean 4.2 [SD 1.09]) and anxiety (mean 4.3 [SD 1.61]) were identified to be major evolving influencing factors, while other factors including performance expectancy, ease of use, enjoyment and incentives were identified to be comparatively less influential. Conclusions Increasing adoption of eHealth mainly due to necessity but not out of interest can have serious implications for patients and the adoption of eHealth technologies in the future.

Using Machine Learning to Predict Young People's Internet Health and Social Service Information Seeking. Abstract
Machine learning creates new opportunities to design digital health interventions for youth at risk for acquiring HIV (YARH), capitalizing on YARH's health information seeking on the internet. To date, researchers have focused on descriptive analyses that associate individual factors with health-seeking behaviors, without estimating of the strength of these predictive models. We developed predictive models by applying machine learning methods (i.e., elastic net and lasso regression models) to YARH's self-reports of internet use. The YARH were aged 14-24 years old (N = 1287) from Los Angeles and New Orleans. Models were fit to three binary indicators of YARH's lifetime internet searches for general health, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and social service information. YARH responses regarding internet health information seeking were fed into machine learning models with potential predictor variables based on findings from previous research, including sociodemographic characteristics, sexual and gender minority identity, healthcare access and engagement, sexual behavior, substance use, and mental health. About half of the YARH reported seeking general health and SRH information and 26% sought social service information. Areas under the ROC curve (≥ .75) indicated strong predictive models and results were consistent with the existing literature. For example, higher education and sexual minority identification was associated with seeking general health, SRH, and social service information. New findings also emerged. Cisgender identity versus transgender and non-binary identities was associated with lower odds of general health, SRH, and social service information seeking. Experiencing intimate partner violence was associated with higher odds of seeking general health, SRH, and social service information. Findings demonstrate the ability to develop predictive models to inform targeted health information dissemination strategies but underscore the need to better understand health disparities that can be operationalized as predictors in machine learning algorithms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This systematic review assessed the influence of online health information (OHI) search behaviour on health and medical decisions. METHODS Eligible studies were identified by searching electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL in February 2020 for studies reporting OHI search behaviour and its influence on health decisions. Information was extracted pertaining to either consumers' (self-reported) perceptions of the influence of OHI on decision-making or the association between online search behaviour and health decision-making. RESULTS A total of 3995 articles were screened, with 48 included in the final analysis. The reviewed studies indicated that OHI assisted in making subsequent health related decisions such as asking questions during a consultation, increased professional visits, improved adherence to the advice of a physician, being more compliant with taking medication, and improved self-care. CONCLUSION Consumers largely used OHI to support information provided by their physicians. The strength of the patient-provider relationship was considered important in moderating the potential negative outcomes of OHI. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Health care systems have a unique opportunity to direct OHI search behaviours towards empowering consumers to engage as an informed, active and joint decision-maker in their own health care.

Abstract
This cross-sectional descriptive study aims to (1) describe the current digital technology (DT) use of people with chronic diseases (CD) by identifying different user profiles and (2) determine whether those profiles have specific characteristics regarding health-related variables and patient-doctor relationship quality (RQ). An online questionnaire assessing the uses of multiple types of DT (the Internet, mobile applications and connected devices) and several dimensions related to health and patient-doctor RQ was completed by 954 individuals living with CD. DT user groups were obtained by k-means cluster analysis and then compared using Mann-Whitney tests. The results show three profiles of DT users: (1) hyperconnected (8.9%, regular users of all DTs), (2) biconnected (19.1%, regular users of the Internet and mobile apps) and (3) hypoconnected (72%, casual users of the Internet only). The hyperconnected and biconnected groups are more empowered, more knowledgeable about their treatment and more committed to their doctors than the hypoconnected group. Nonadherence to treatment, health motivations, self-efficacy for health management and the trust dimension of the patient-doctor RQ did not differ between groups. We conclude by discussing the low use of the most recent technologies in the CD population, although these technologies seem to provide access to health information that empowers patients and leads to a better relationship with their doctors.

Abstract
Innoculation of pneumococcal vaccines among the elderly is an effective public health policy to prevent pneumococcal diseases and it is widely promoted by many developed countries. The pneumococcal vaccination rate among the elderly in China was only 3.7% in 2019, it grew rapidly during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the psychological and demographic-economic factors related to the uptake behavior of pneumococcal vaccination among the Chinese elderly by using an integrated model based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), and knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP). The theoretical model was tested via structural equation modeling (SEM) with data collected from 516 Chinese older adults aged 60 years and older. Our results suggested that knowledge, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, attitude, and trust had a significant correlation with behavioral intention; behavioral intention and trust had a positive correlation with the uptake behavior, gender, and and education level and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exerted significant moderating effects. To increase the coverage of pneumococcal vaccination among the elderly, it is necessary to provide effective health education by authoritative experts, thereby enhancing their knowledge and positive attitude towardthe vaccination.

Abstract
Background Patients diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are required to deal with the unpredictability of this clinical condition, which is associated with poorer health-related quality of life (HRQoL) compared to other clinical conditions. Patient engagement is currently demonstrated to relate with chronic patients’ HRQoL, but few studies have been conducted among this population. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1176 IBD patients. Data were collected on participants’ HRQoL (SIBD-Q) and patient engagement (PHE-s®). Regression analysis was used to examine the effects of patient engagement on HRQoL. Results About the half of the sample (47%) reported a low patient engagement level. 30% of the sample reported a low level of HRQoL. Psycho-emotional functioning resulted to be the aspect of HRQoL most impacted in the 37% of the sample. The regression model showed that PHE-s® is significantly related to the SIBD-Q total score (B = .585; p < .001; R squared = .343) and to the subscales’ scores—systemic symptoms (B = .572; p < .001; R squared = .327), bowel symptoms (B = .482; p < .001; R squared = .232), social (B = .485; p < .001; R squared = .234) and psycho-emotional (B = .607; p < .001; R squared = .369) functioning. Conclusions Patients who are engaged in their IBD care pathway are more likely to report higher level of HRQoL, thus offering clues to potential therapeutic approaches to ameliorating IBD patients’ wellbeing. As this is a modifiable factor, screening for patient health engagement levels, coupled with appropriate interventions, could improve care, and ultimately improve HRQoL outcomes among IBD patients.

Abstract
Background Understanding patients’ trust in health information sources is critical to designing work systems in healthcare. Patient-centered communication during the visit might be a major factor in shaping patients’ trust in information sources. Objective The purpose of this paper is to explore relationships between patient ratings of clinician communication during the visit and patient trust in health information sources. Methodology We conducted a secondary analysis of the nationally-representative Health Information National Trends Surveys; HINTS4 Cycle1 (2011), HINTS4 Cycle4 (2014), and HINTS5 Cycle1 (2017), and HINTS5 Cycle2 (2018). We created a composite score of patient-centered communication from five questions and dichotomized at the median. We created multivariable logistic regression models to see how patient-centered communication influenced trust in different information sources across cycles. Consecutively, we used hierarchical analysis for aggregated data. Results We analyzed data from 14,425 individuals. In the adjusted logistic models for each cycle and the hierarchical model, clinicians’ perceived patient-centered communication skills were significantly associated with increased trust in the clinicians as an information source. Conclusion Clinicians still represent an essential source of trustworthy information reinforced by patient-centered communication skills. Given that trust helps build healing relationships that lead to better healthcare outcomes, communication sets an essential foundation to establish necessary trust. Interpreting information from the internet sources for patients is likely to remain a vital clinician function.

Abstract
Background Current conceptual models of health literacy (HL) illustrate the link between HL and health outcomes. However, these models fail to recognize and integrate certain elements of disease management, health system factors, and socio-demographic factors into their framework. This article outlines the development of Chronic Airway Disease (CAD) Management and Health Literacy (CADMaHL) conceptual model that integrates the aforementioned elements and factors into a single framework. Methods Information obtained during the following stages informed the development of our model: (1) a systematic review of existing CAD HL measurement tools that apply core HL domains; (2) patient-oriented focus group sessions to understand HL barriers to CAD self-management practices; (3) key-informant interviews to obtain potential strategies to mitigate CAD management barriers, and validate disease self-management topics; (4) elicited the perspectives of Canadian respirologist’s on the ideal functional HL skills for asthma and COPD patients. Results Throughout the study process many stakeholders (i.e., patients, key-informants, and an international HL advisory panel) contributed to and reviewed the model. The process enabled us to organize the CADMaHL model into 6 primary modules, including: INPUT, consisting of four HL core components (access, understand, communicate, evaluate,) and numeracy skills; OUTPUT, including application of the obtained information; OUTCOME, covering patient empowerment in performing self-management practices by applying HL skills; ASSESSMENT, consisting of information about functionality and relevancy of CADMaHL; IMPACT, including mediators between HL and health outcomes; CROSSCUTTING FACTORS, consisting of diverse socio-demographics and health-system factors with applicability across the HL domains. Conclusions We developed the CADMaHL model, with input from key-stakeholders, which addresses a knowledge gap by integrating various disease management, health-system and socio-demographic factors absent from previous published frameworks. We anticipate that our model will serve as the backbone for the development of a comprehensive HL measurement tool, which may be utilized for future HL interventions for CAD patients. Abstract
Health information literacy plays a critical role in self-management practices among patients living with chronic health conditions. However, there are limited studies on information needs among breast cancer patients in Ghana. This paper therefore investigated the information needs of women living with breast cancer in Ghana and how educational status influenced their information needs. The study was conducted in two health facilities in Accra, Ghana (37 Military Hospital and Sweden Ghana Medical Centre). A total of 75 breast cancer patients were conveniently selected from the two health facilities for the study. The instrument used to elicit relevant data for this study was a questionnaire using the survey design. Data was analysed descriptively. The findings of the study revealed that the information needs of the breast cancer patients investigated were centred mainly around treatment and management information and less around preventive information. The patients also ranked diagnostic information as their highest need, followed by physical care information, treatment information, psychosocial information and disease-specific information in that order. Patients with higher education reported higher information need on all the five domains compared to those with lower education. The study therefore recommended that management of health facilities make health information literacy an integral component of their treatment and management of breast cancer.

Abstract
PurposeWith the growing interest in behavioral health and medical decision-making, this systematic integrative review aims to understand research on cognitive biases in the context of consumer health information seeking and where future research opportunities may reside.Design/methodology/approachFollowing a systematic review protocol, 40 empirical research articles, out of 1,127 journal research papers from 12 academic databases, from 1995 to 2019, are included for review.FindingsThe study of cognitive biases in consumer health information seeking is a nascent and fast-growing phenomenon, with variety in publication venues and research methods. Among the 16 biases investigated, optimistic bias and confirmation bias have attracted most attention (46.9%). Researchers are most interested in specific disease/illness (35%) and the health factors of consumer products (17.5%). For theoretical presence, about one-third of the reviewed articles have cited behavioral economist Daniel Kahneman, although most of the references are the early works of Kahneman.Research limitations/implicationsAs an emerging research area, there exists plenty of cognitive biases to be investigated in the context of health information seeking. In the meantime, the adoption of more recent theoretical insights such as nudge for debiasing may enrich this research area. Health communication scientists may find incorporating the behavioral decision research framework enriches the disciplinary inquiry of health information seeking, while information scientists could use it to commence the cognitive turn of information science evolution.Originality/valueThrough evidence-based understanding, this review shows the potential research directions that health communication scientists and information scientists could contribute to optimize health decisions through the adoption of behavioral decision research framework.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic forced health authorities around the world to introduce public health measures to contain the risks of contagion. This greatly impacted on citizens' quality of life, often raising concerns and reactance. There is an ongoing urgent need to promote and sustain behavioral changes and adherence to preventive measures. Based on the theoretical framework of the Patient Health Engagement Model and a participatory co-design process, a social media campaign aimed at improving citizens' health engagement toward behavioral change for preventing the spread of COVID-19 was promoted in Italy in the early months of the pandemic. In this paper, we describe the methodological process adopted to develop the campaign, its characteristics, and the first results-in terms of audience reach and engagement in its early implementation. The discussion of this grounded-up and citizen-centered approach to social campaign development highlights key ways of promoting learning, engaging citizens, and supporting their participation in the co-production of educational interventions for behavioral change toward preventive actions.

Abstract
In this study, we explored who is most likely to use electronic means to seek health information and why; our research was guided by the Health Belief Model (HBM). We used the National Cancer Institute’s Health Information Trends Survey (HINTS) dataset for 2017 and 2018 (n=6,697). We found that 67.5% of US adults used electronic means to seek health information and that females (52.4%), non-Hispanic whites (63.8%), those with at least some college education (76.5%), and those with a household income of at least $50,000 per year (58.3%) were most likely to do so. Respondents reporting depression were 42% more likely to use electronic means to seek health information, suggesting that stigma about mental health may direct people with depression to seek online information to avoid face-to-face communication. Using a tablet to track progress on a health-related goal [odds ratio (OR)=2.38, p<0.0001], and using a tablet to make a decision about treating an illness (OR=6.00, p<0.0001) were highly associated with seeking electronic health information. As the internet remains largely unregulated, this suggests that health systems link their patients to trustworthy resources for preventive and treatment-related information, since many already engage in internet-guided health information-seeking.

Abstract
Due to COVID-19 spreading in Italy, on March 11 the Prime Minister of Italy declared a lockdown and imposed severe restrictive measures impacting citizens’ freedom at several levels. People were required to stay at home and go out only to satisfy basic needs. Several risk models have postulated a link among online searching behavior, affect, anxiety, and complaints by individuals toward government restrictions (GR), which emerged as also related to an increased perception of knowledge toward risk. However, to date, no study has addressed how these key risk-related aspects (i.e., affect, anxiety, perceived knowledge on risk, and risk dimensions) can act jointly to orient online health information-seeking behavior, and people’s complaints toward GR imposed during the lockdown. This study investigated the mechanisms underlying online health information-seeking behavior and people’s complaints toward the government’s restrictions during a COVID-19 emergency in the Italian population. Drawing from the health belief model (HBM), which postulates a link between sociodemographic variables, risk, and affect dimensions in emergency, we assumed risk factors as predictors of affect and anxiety, which, in turn, were posited as mediators between risk dimensions, online health information-seeking behavior, and complaints toward GR. Participants (1,031) were involved during the first week of the quarantine (March 11–18) and completed an online survey composed of (i) an adapted version of the Italian Risk Perception Questionnaire; (ii) the Italian Positive (PA) and Negative Affect (NA) Schedule (PANAS-10); (iii) the State Anxiety Scale (STAI-Y1); (iv) ad hoc personal knowledge measure about novel coronavirus; (v) ad hoc item measuring information search behavior regarding the novel coronavirus; (vi) ad hoc measure of the complains regarding GR; and (vii) sociodemographic questions. General linear models and structural equation modeling (SEM) were carried out to test the model. Sociodemographic and cognitive factors predicted the participants’ affect and anxiety, which, in turn, motivated and fully mediated both information search behavior and complaint toward GR. This research can offer useful suggestions for policy-makers during the COVID-19 emergency, and it advanced the knowledge on the risk–emotion link in emergency situations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In January 2020, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) started to spread in Italy. The Italian government adopted urgent measures to slow its spread. Enforcing compliance with such measures is crucial in order to enhance their effectiveness. Engaging citizens in the COVID-19 preventive process is urgent today both in Italy and around the world. However, to the best of our knowledge, no previous studies have investigated the role of health engagement in predicting citizens' compliance with health emergency containment measures. METHOD An online survey was administered between February 28 and March 4, 2020 on a representative sample of 1000 Italians. The questionnaire included a measure of health engagement (Patient Health Engagement Scale), a 5-item Likert scale ranging from 1 to 7, resulting in 4 positions that describe the psychological readiness to be active in one's own health management, and a series of ad hoc items intended to measure citizens' perceived susceptibility and severity of the disease, orientation towards health management, trust in institutional bodies, health habits and food consumption. To investigate the relationship between health engagement and these variables, ANOVA analysis, logistic regression and contingency tables with Pearson's chi-squared analysis have been carried out. RESULTS Less engaged people show higher levels of perceived susceptibility to the virus and severity of the disease; they are less trustful of scientific and healthcare authorities, they feel less self-effective in managing their own health-both in normal conditions and under stress-and are less prone to cooperate with healthcare professionals. Low levels of health engagement also are associated with a change in the usual purchase behavior. CONCLUSIONS The Patient Health Engagement model (PHE) provides a useful framework for understanding how people will respond to health threats such as pandemics. Therefore, intervention studies should focus on raising their levels of engagement to increase the effectiveness of educational initiatives intended to promote preventive behaviors.

Abstract
Effective treatment of depression involves collaboration with informed patients and families and appropriate knowledge sharing. We describe here our experience, as a case example, of a collaboration to "translate" a clinical guideline designed for practitioners into an accessible, plainlanguage version that patients and families can use during the care process, both to provide basic educational information and to foster informed discussions with their treatment providers. Content experts in knowledge translation, patient advocacy, patient-oriented research, and psychiatry guided overall project design. Our first step was to identify lived experience writers to join in the codesign and co-writing of the "CHOICE-D Patient and Family Guide to Depression Treatment." A national call for writers attracted 62 applicants, from whom eight individuals with lived experience of depression and writing experience were selected. Individuals subsequently attended a welcoming teleconference, followed by a 1-day workshop designed to provide (a) a detailed overview of the clinician guideline, (b) an opportunity to select what should be included in the Guide, and (c) key principles of knowledge translation/lay writing. Both from the workshop and subsequently through the codesign process, lived experience writers recommended that the Guide address symptoms, effects of illness course on treatment, first-line treatments, safety/side effects, and treatment misconceptions. To promote patient autonomy, question scripts (how and what to ask your treatment provider), self-triaging resources, and treatment selection aids were suggested. Stylistic considerations included use of simple yet hopeful language, brevity, white space, key terms glossary, and graphics. Several strategies were particularly useful to optimize writer engagement in the codesign process: a pre-workshop conference call and circulation of project resources, an in-person workshop to increase content knowledge, structured discussion with co-writers and project leads to develop ideas, and practical training exercises with the provision of feedback. Both during and at the end of the project, writers provided additional recommendations for improving the process, including more in-person meetings, distribution of step-by-step instructions on the writing task, and a key terms glossary of technical terms to support their role. In conclusion, we describe a process with practical tips and reflective feedback on important considerations for engaging persons with lived experience as leaders in the codesign and writing process of lay treatment guidelines. These methods may serve as a model for similar projects in other areas of healthcare.

Abstract
Patients in Singapore with chronic conditions such as diabetes are encouraged to participate in patient-professional partnership activities because of rising health care costs and a shortage of infrastructure and human resources. This study explores the self-care and health information seeking behaviors of diabetic patients in Singapore, as well as factors related to health and information carriers that might influence those behaviors. A pilot-tested online survey was developed based on the Comprehensive Model of Information Seeking (CMIS) and notified to the members of the Diabetic Society of Singapore (DSS) through their newsletter in January 2016. In total, 60 usable responses from the DSS members were collected. The survey revealed that more than 30% of the patients did not strictly follow doctors' instructions to regularly exercise, self-monitor blood sugar, and pay attention to type of food prepared at home. However, it was found that the majority of them had consciously limited their sugar intake. It was also revealed that respondents' most frequently used sources of health information were authoritative sources such as doctors/nurses and pamphlets/leaflets from hospitals/clinics. Understandably, respondents experiencing less distress caused by diabetes tended to report better health status, less worries, and stronger beliefs in the efficacy of their methods for diabetes control.

Abstract
Background Increased accessibility to the internet and mobile devices has seen a rapid expansion in electronic health (eHealth) behavior change interventions delivered to patients with cancer and survivors using synchronous, asynchronous, and combined delivery methods. Characterizing effective delivery methods of eHealth interventions is required to enable improved design and implementation of evidence-based health behavior change interventions. Objective This study aims to systematically review the literature and synthesize evidence on the success of eHealth behavior change interventions in patients with cancer and survivors delivered by synchronous, asynchronous, or combined methods compared with a control group. Engagement with the intervention, behavior change, and health outcomes, including quality of life, fatigue, depression, and anxiety, were examined. Methods A search of Scopus, Ovid MEDLINE, Excerpta Medica dataBASE, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature Plus, PsycINFO, Cochrane CENTRAL, and PubMed was conducted for studies published between March 2007 and March 2019. We looked for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining interventions delivered to adult cancer survivors via eHealth methods with a measure of health behavior change. Random-effects meta-analysis was performed to examine whether the method of eHealth delivery impacted the level of engagement, behavior change, and health outcomes. Results A total of 24 RCTs were included predominantly examining dietary and physical activity behavior change interventions. There were 11 studies that used a synchronous approach and 11 studies that used an asynchronous approach, whereas 2 studies used a combined delivery method. Use of eHealth interventions improved exercise behavior (standardized mean difference [SMD] 0.34, 95% CI 0.21-0.48), diet behavior (SMD 0.44, 95% CI 0.18-0.70), fatigue (SMD 0.21, 95% CI −0.08 to 0.50; SMD change 0.22, 95% CI 0.09-0.35), anxiety (SMD 1.21, 95% CI: 0.36-2.07; SMD change 0.15, 95% CI −0.09 to 0.40), depression (SMD 0.15, 95% CI 0.00-0.30), and quality of life (SMD 0.12, 95% CI −0.10 to 0.34; SMD change 0.14, 95% CI 0.04-0.24). The mode of delivery did not influence the amount of dietary and physical activity behavior change observed. Conclusions Physical activity and dietary behavior change eHealth interventions delivered to patients with cancer or survivors have a small to moderate impact on behavior change and a small to very small benefit to quality of life, fatigue, depression, and anxiety. There is insufficient evidence to determine whether asynchronous or synchronous delivery modes yield superior results. Three-arm RCTs comparing delivery modes with a control with robust engagement reporting are required to determine the most successful delivery method for promoting behavior change and ultimately favorable health outcomes.

Abstract
Patient engagement has been recognized as a key priority in chronic care. However, scholars agree that guidelines are needed to ensure effective patient engagement strategies. To this end, a Consensus Conference process was promoted with the following methodological steps: (1) extensive literature review about patient engagement initiatives in chronic care; (2) a stakeholders survey to collect best practices and (3) workshops with experts. On the basis of the information collected, a consensus statement was drafted, revised, and finalized by a panel of select renowned experts. These experts agreed in defining engagement as an eco-systemic concept involving multiple actors all of which contribute to influence patients’ willingness and ability to engage in chronic care. Moreover, experts recommended, whenever possible, to adopt standardized instruments to assess engagement levels and related unmet needs. Then, experts strongly advised appropriate trainings for healthcare professionals about patient engagement strategies. Furthermore, the importance of promoting healthcare professionals’ wellbeing has been advocated. Family caregivers, as well as patients’ organizations - should be trained and engaged to increase the effectiveness of interventions dedicated to patients. Finally, experts agreed that digital technologies should be considered as a crucial enhancer for patient engagement in chronic care.

Abstract
This study examined similarities and differences in health information-seeking behaviors between American and Chinese people using data from the 2017 U.S. Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) and the 2017 China HINTS. It is one of the first studies that use comparable samples and survey instruments to make direct comparisons of the two populations' health information-seeking behaviors. Results showed that Americans (including different racial/ethnic groups in the U.S.) were more likely to actively seek health information than Chinese people. Americans were also more likely to use mediated communication as their primary sources of health information while Chinese people favored interpersonal sources. Chinese people reported lower quality of doctor-patient communication than their American counterparts. These differences between the two countries highlight the importance of using different information sources to reach specific populations, and the need to develop tailored public health intervention programs in different cultures.

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess (1) the trends of and (2) the factors associated with health information technology (HIT) use among older adults in the U.S.Methods: A decade (2009-2018) of data from the U.S. National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) was used. The trends of HIT use among older adults (aged 65 over) were reported and compared to younger adults (aged 18-64) using weighted percentages adjusted by NHIS complex sampling design. HIT use, which was assessed with five questions asking whether respondents used the internet to (1) look up health information, (2) use chat groups to learn about health topics, (3) fill a prescription, (4) schedule medical appointments, and (5) communicate with health care providers by email. Andersen's Behavioral Model of Health Services Use was used to select and categorize the covariates. Multivariable logistic regression models were conducted to identify the predictors of HIT use.Results: The prevalence of HIT use significantly increased from 9.3 million (24.8% of the 37.3 million older adults) in 2009 to 22.3 million (43.9% of the 50.9 million older adults) in 2018 (p < .01). Among U.S. older adults, young-older, white females, higher education, higher income, insurance coverage, and good health status were more likely to report HIT use.Conclusions: This study found an increasing trend of HIT use among older adults in the U.S. from 2009 to 2018. Healthcare providers should be conscious of older adults' increased HIT use patterns and guide them to proper health management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In 2007, Lambert and Loiselle conducted an extensive concept analysis of the term health information seeking behaviour (HISB) to examine the concept's level of maturity and critically analyse its characteristics. Since their groundbreaking work, HISB has evolved with the proliferation of ICTs. The Internet is now a common and often preferred medium for the pursuit of health information. OBJECTIVES The previous analysis spanned 42 years of literature; this article describes an analysis of the last 10 years of literature on HISB and how online seeking has caused the concept to evolve in the literature. METHODS This study used the concept analysis methodology employed by Lambert and Loiselle in the original analysis. It also included a systematic search conducted in five databases to identify studies from 2007 to 2017, using similar inclusion criteria from the original study. RESULTS Of the more than 500 articles retrieved, 85 journal articles met the inclusion criteria. Consistent with the original work, articles that included outcomes were identified as either behavioural or cognitive. CONCLUSION Most of the attention of the works studied focused on individuals and their information source preferences. This HISB analysis can be incorporated with studies to understand how various communities seek information in online versus non-online contexts.

Abstract
Background: Online health communities (OHCs) are one of the developments related to online health. Patient compliance plays a vital role in improving health treatment outcomes. Patient activation is associated with patient activities in OHCs, such as physician-patient communication and health information seeking. In other words, OHCs influence patient compliance. Therefore, identifying the relationship between patient activation in OHCs and patient compliance is important for improved health outcomes. Methods: This study established a research model consisting of one independent variable (patient activation), four mediators (physician-patient communication, health information seeking, perceived information asymmetry, and e-health literacy), one dependent variable (patient compliance) and four control variables (gender, age, education level, and status). Data were obtained through a web-based survey, involving a total of 387 valid participants in China. These data were analyzed and tested through structural equation modeling and partial least squares. Results: Patient activation positively affects patient compliance through the mediation of physician-patient communication, health information seeking, perceived information asymmetry, and e-health literacy. Perceived information asymmetry has no direct effect on patient compliance. However, perceived information asymmetry affects patient compliance through the mediation of e-health literacy. Conclusions: Patient compliance is significantly affected by patient activation. Thus, physicians can achieve higher patient compliance by improving patient activation. Guaranteeing and improving the information quality in OHCs is essential for physicians and OHCs operators. Physicians should pay extra attention in cultivating patients' e-health literacy through communications and health information-seeking behaviors to further improve patient compliance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Online medical information has transformed the way patients obtain information. PURPOSE The present study examined patients' informational needs and the patient- Healthcare Provider (HCP) relationship from the perceptions of both patients and HCP. METHODS The study was a cross-sectional study; data were collected in Israel from100 HCPs (nurses and physicians) and 184 e-patients. FINDINGS E-patients were comfortable sharing e-information with their HCP and expected them to consider the e-information in treatment decision-making. Physicians thought they provided more information than the patients considered that they received from them, while both nurses and patients were in agreement about their interactions. Patients thought that there was a higher concordance between the e-information and the information they received from the physician/nurse as compared to what physicians and nurses reported. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS E-health information does not disrupt the patient-nurse/physician relationship. To promote compliance to treatment, it is important that HCPs consider information presented by patients when preparing the treatment plan.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Self-management is crucial for liver transplant (LT) recipients to maintain transplants and optimize health outcomes. However, previous literature has been primarily limited to examining medication adherence; there is a knowledge gap regarding self-management in the LT population. AIM The aims of this study were to 1) comprehensively describe self-management behaviors and activities in LT recipients, 2) explore levels of overall self-management, and 3) explore the relationships of self-efficacy, cognition, and health information seeking behavior with self-management. METHODS Adult LT recipients (n = 113) who had a functioning transplant for at least 6 months participated in this cross-sectional, descriptive study. Participants were asked to identify self-management behaviors and rate their performance of those behaviors, including symptom management and medication adherence. They also completed a cognitive assessment and questionnaires measuring self-efficacy and health information seeking behavior. Descriptive statistics, latent profile analysis, and probit model for path analysis were used for the data analysis. RESULTS LT recipients acknowledged engaging in various self-management behaviors including symptom management, physical activity, maintenance of positive attitudes, and communication with healthcare providers. Three levels of self-management (i.e., low, medium, and high) were found; a high level of self-management was related to self-efficacy and health information seeking behavior. CONCLUSIONS The findings indicate that self-management may be improved with interventions aimed at increasing self-efficacy and health information seeking behavior. Findings from this study will inform future interventions, to improve self-management and subsequent health outcomes in this population. Future longitudinal studies are necessary to confirm the causality of the identified relationships.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Electronic health (eHealth) literacy has become an important topic in health fields. Studies have found that individuals with higher eHealth literacy are more likely to use preventive care services and to have effective interactions with their physicians. In addition, previous studies have revealed a gender difference in the utilization of physician access and outpatient services. Nevertheless, few studies have explored the effect of the three levels of eHealth literacy (functional, interactive, and critical levels) on the four aspects of health services utilization (type, site, purpose, and time interval). It is unclear whether the associations between these three levels of eHealth literacy and the four aspects of health services utilization among college students are positive or negative. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to investigate the associations among gender, eHealth literacy, and health services utilization. METHODS We used the eHealth Literacy Scale, a 12-item instrument designed to measure college students' functional, interactive, and critical eHealth literacy, and the Health Services Utilization Scale, which is a 10-item instrument developed to measure the four aspects of health services utilization by college students. A nationally representative sample of 489 college students in Taiwan was surveyed. We conducted multiple regression analysis to examine the associations among gender, eHealth literacy, and health services utilization. RESULTS The study found that being female was negatively related to the purpose aspect of health services utilization (t487=-2.85, P<.01). However, the R2 value of gender on the purpose aspect was low enough to be ignored. Critical (t484=2.98-4.23, P<.01) and interactive eHealth literacy (t484=2.43-2.89, P<.05) were related to three aspects of the health services utilization, and functional eHealth literacy was related to the purpose aspect (t484=-4.99, P<.001). CONCLUSIONS This study showed that Taiwanese college students with interactive eHealth literacy were more likely to have a higher rate of outpatient care use. Moreover, Taiwanese college students with critical eHealth literacy were more likely to make full use of health services than those with functional eHealth literacy. Finally, the educated and age-restricted sample may attenuate gender disparities in health services utilization among Taiwanese college students.
