Abstract
Three cobalt complexes, namely [CoIII(HL1)2(N3)2]ClO4 (1), [CoIII(L2)(HL2)(N3)]ClO4·1.5H2O (2), and [CoIII(L3)(HL3)(NCS)]2 [CoIICl2(NCS)2] (3), where HL1 = 2-(3-(dimethylamino)propyliminomethyl)-6-methoxyphenol, HL2 = 2-(2-(dimethylamino)ethyliminomethyl)-4,6-dichlorophenol, and HL3 = 2-(2-(dimethylamino)ethyliminomethyl)-6-methoxyphenol, as potential tridentate N2O-donor Schiff base ligands, were synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. All three were found to be monomeric ionic complexes. Complex 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbcn, whereas both complexes 2 and 3 crystallize in triclinic space groups, P1̄. Further, 1 and 2 are cationic complexes of octahedral cobalt(iii) with perchlorate anions, whereas complex 3 contains a cationic part of octahedral cobalt(iii) and an anionic part of tetrahedral cobalt(ii). Hydrogen-bonding interactions involving aromatic and aliphatic CH bonds as H-bond donors and the pseudo-halide co-ligands as H-bond acceptors were established, which are important aspects governing the X-ray packing. These interactions were analyzed theoretically using the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and non-covalent interaction plot (NCI plot) analyses. Moreover, energy decomposition analysis (EDA) was performed to analyze the stabilization of the complexes in terms of the electrostatic, dispersion, and correlation forces.

Abstract
Chromium-catechin complex was synthesized by reacting [Cr(H2O)6]2+ (hexa-aqua) with catechin as a ligand. Toxicity studies were carried out for the complex using bacterial models for safer application of this complex in the future as a drug. Chromium-catechin complex was characterized using ESI Mass spectrometry, electronic spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The complex was found mildly inhibitory towards B. subtilis with the mode of action being oxidative damage, targeting cell membrane. The complex was supportive towards E. coli, which was evident from the growth profile and inhibition studies. SEM analysis supported the results of membrane integrity studies, where the bacterial liposomes upon treatment with the complex revealed slight morphological changes in the case of B. subtilis, without any change in the case of E. coli. The toxicity studies on chromium-catechin complex using bacterial model saves time, as well as resources by providing quick and reliable results, which could ease up the work to be done in future with higher group of organisms like animal model. Therefore, in the future, this complex can be used as an antidiabetic drug after performing toxicity studies with animal model.

Abstract
In this work we synthesized a chelating Schiff base by a single condensation of salicylaldehyde with 3,4-diamino benzoic acid (1). This ligand was used further for complexation to CoCl2·6H2O under nitrogen. In the next step, three six-coordinate Co(III) complexes were synthesized by coordinating this complex with imidazole (2), 2-methyimidazole (3) and N-Boc-l-histidine methyl ester (4) (Boc: tert.-butoxycarbonyl) in axial positions with simultaneous oxidation of Co(II) to Co(III) under ambient environment. All Co(III) complexes were characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C and 59Co NMR), FT-IR, mass spectrometry and HPLC. The Co(III) complexes were conjugated to three different cell penetrating peptides: FFFF (P1), RRRRRRRRRGAL (P2) and FFFFRRRRRRRRRGAL (P3). Standard solid-phase peptide chemistry was used for the synthesis of cell penetrating peptides. Coupling of N-terminal peptides with the cobalt complexes, possessing a carboxylic group on the tetradentate Schiff base ligand, afforded Co(III)-peptide bioconjugates, which were purified by semi-preparative HPLC and characterized by analytical HPLC and mass spectrometry. The antiproliferative activity of the synthesized compounds was studied against different human tumour cell lines: lung cancer A549, liver cancer HepG2 and normal human fibroblasts GM5657T, in comparison with the activity of cisplatin as a reference drug. The bioconjugate 21 containing the Co complex 4 and the combined phenylalanine and polyarginine cell penetrating sequence P3 shows better activity against the liver cancer line HepG2 than the parent Co(III) complex 4.

Abstract
A novel Schiff base ligand of type HL was prepared by the condensation of amoxicillin trihydrate and nicotinaldehyde. The metal complexes of Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2, and Zn+2 were characterized and investigated by physical and spectral techniques, namely, elemental analysis, melting point, conductivity, 1H NMR, IR, UV-Vis spectra, ESR, SEM, and mass spectrometry measurements. They were further analyzed by thermal technique (TGA/DTA) to gain better insight about the thermal stability and kinetic properties of the complexes. Thermal data revealed high thermal stability and nonspontaneous nature of the decomposition steps. The Coats-Redfern method was applied to extract thermodynamic parameters to explain the kinetic behavior. The molar conductance values were relatively low, showing their nonelectrolytic nature. The powder XRD pattern revealed amorphous nature except copper complex (1c) that crystallized in the triclinic crystal system. The EPR study strongly recommends the tetrahedral geometry of 1c. The structure optimization by MM force field calculation through ArgusLab 4.0.1 software program supports the concerned geometry of the complexes. The in vitro antibacterial activity of all the compounds, at their two different concentrations, was screened against four bacterial pathogens, namely, E. coli, P. vulgaris, K. pneumoniae, and S. aureus, and showed better activity compared to parent drug and control drug.
