Abstract
OBJECTIVE This article introduces the smile design and space (SDS) concept for managing the vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) in full-mouth reconstructions and its influence on the selection of esthetic restorative materials. Limitations of traditional VDO adjustment methods are being addressed through a facially driven treatment approach that enhances esthetics improves function and minimizes invasiveness. CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS The SDS concept involves detailed evaluations of the incisal edges of the maxillary central incisors in relation to the upper lip at rest and at full smile. This includes analyzing variations in incisal exposure due to differing lip mobility, which can significantly impact gingival esthetics, particularly in cases with gingival exposure during smiling. The concept employs a strategic formula to determine the necessary alterations in VDO based on specific dental relationships and wear patterns. CONCLUSIONS The SDS concept provides guidelines for full-mouth reconstructions, emphasizing minimal invasiveness and the integration of esthetics with functional dynamics to enhance the predictability of clinical outcomes and reduce complications associated with traditional restoration techniques. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The SDS concept enhances the precision of full-mouth reconstructions through individualized adjustment of the VDO, tailored to the esthetic and functional requirements of each patient.

Abstract
This study assessed the monotonic and fatigue flexural strength (FS), elastic modulus (E), and surface characteristics of a 3D printed zirconia-containing resin composite compared to subtractive and conventional layering methods. Specimens, including discs (n = 15; Ø = 15 mm × 1.2 mm) and bars (n = 15; 14 × 4 × 1.2 mm), were prepared and categorized into three groups: 3D printing (3D printing - PriZma 3D Bio Crown, Makertech), Subtractive (Lava Ultimate blocks, 3M), and Layering (Filtek Z350 XT, 3M). Monotonic tests were performed on the discs using a piston-on-three-balls setup, while fatigue tests employed similar parameters with a frequency of 10 Hz, initial stress at 20 MPa, and stress increments every 5000 cycles. The E was determined through three-point-bending test using bars. Surface roughness, fractographic, and topographic analyses were conducted. Statistical analyses included One-way ANOVA for monotonic FS and roughness, Kruskal-Wallis for E, and Kaplan-Meier with post-hoc Mantel-Cox and Weibull analysis for fatigue strength. Results revealed higher monotonic strength in the Subtractive group compared to 3D printing (p = 0.02) and Layering (p = 0.04), while 3D Printing and Layering exhibited similarities (p = 0.88). Fatigue data indicated significant differences across all groups (3D Printing < Layering < Subtractive; p = 0.00 and p = 0.04, respectively). Mechanical reliability was comparable across groups. 3D printing and Subtractive demonstrated similar E, both surpassing Layering. Moreover, 3D printing exhibited higher surface roughness than Subtractive and Layering (p < 0.05). Fractographic analysis indicated that fractures initiated at surface defects located in the area subjected to tensile stress concentration. A porous surface was observed in the 3D Printing group and a more compact surface in Subtractive and Layering methods. This study distinguishes the unique properties of 3D printed resin when compared to conventional layering and subtractive methods for resin-based materials. 3D printed shows comparable monotonic strength to layering but lags behind in fatigue strength, with subtractive resin demonstrating superior performance. Both 3D printed and subtractive exhibit similar elastic moduli, surpassing layering. However, 3D printed resin displays higher surface roughness compared to subtractive and layering methods. The study suggests a need for improvement in the mechanical performance of 3D printed material.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the efficacy of digital guide-assisted implant restoration technique in enhancing the anterior teeth aesthetics and its impact on labial bone mass. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed clinical data from 90 patients who underwent maxillary anterior teeth implant restoration at The First People's Hospital of Fuyang, Hangzhou, from January 2021 to September 2023. The patients were divided into two groups: a conventional group (n=45, 45 implants, standard implant restoration) and a digital group (n=45, 45 implants, digital guide-assisted implant). We compared implant positional deviations, changes in dental plaque index (PLI), aesthetic effect scores, labial bone mass differences, and the occurrence of adverse reactions post-treatment between the two groups. RESULTS The digital group exhibited significantly less deviation in root position in the buccolingual and vertical directions, less neck deviation in the buccolingual and vertical directions, and less apical deviation than the conventional group (P=0.021, P=0.005, P=0.016, P=0.008, P=0.026, respectively). Three months postoperatively, the digital group demonstrated a significantly lower mean PLI (P<0.001), higher white and pink aesthetic scores (P=0.021, P=0.005), and increased alveolar ridge height and coronal and middle labial bone mass (P=0.006, P=0.015, P=0.008). Additionally, this group experienced lower incidence of adverse reactions (4.44% vs. 17.78%) compared with the conventional group (P=0.044). CONCLUSION The digital guide-assisted implant restoration significantly enhances implant accuracy, reduces bone resorption, improves aesthetic outcomes, and ensures higher safety.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the impact of various commercial silane brands with varied chemical compositions with or without the application of an adhesive layer on the microshear bond strength and durability of a resin luting agent to lithium disilicate glass ceramic. METHODS AND MATERIALS Lithium disilicate glass ceramic discs (EMX, IPS e.max Press, Ivoclar Vivadent) measuring 10 mm in diameter and 3 mm in thickness were fabricated (n=240). Surfaces were etched using 5% hydrofluoric acid and randomly assigned to 10 groups based on the commercial brand of silane used (n=24): [RP] RelyX Ceramic Primer (3M ESPE); [PS] Prosil (FGM); [SA] Silano (Angelus); [SM] Silano (Maquira); [SU] Silane (Ultradent); [GL] GLUMA Ceramic Primer (Kulzer); [CB] Ceramic Bond (VOCO); [MB] Monobond N (Ivoclar Vivadent); [CP] Clearfil Ceramic Primer (Kuraray); and [DE] 2-step silane (Dentsply Sirona). Half of the EMXs (n=12) received a thin adhesive layer (+) after the silane and prior to resin luting agent, while the other half (n=12) did not receive an adhesive layer (-). For the microshear bond strength test (μSBS), four light-cured resin luting agent cylinders (1 mm in diameter) were created on each EMX surface. Half of these specimens were tested after 24 hours, while the other half were stored in deionized water for 6 months. The μSBS test was conducted using a universal testing machine (DL 500, EMIC) at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min until failure. The obtained data underwent statistical analysis using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey test (α=0.05). RESULTS There was significant influence of the silane commercial brand on bond strength. Notably, "universal primers" yielded lower bond strength results compared to "pure" silane solutions. Water storage had a detrimental effect on microshear bond strength for certain silane commercial brands. Additionally, the application of an adhesive layer negatively impacted bond strength results for all silanes. CONCLUSIONS This study confirms the importance of both silane commercial brand and chemical composition in relation to bond strength of resin luting agents to lithium disilicate glass ceramic. Furthermore, the application of an adhesive layer may have an adverse effect on bond stability over time.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the clinical performance of class II restorations performed by repeatedly preheated resin composite "RC" at 68 °C up to ten times. METHODS 105 patients were selected and randomized into three groups, each comprising 35 patients. Each patient was provided with a single class II Bulk-fill resin composite "BF-RC" posterior restoration based on the number of preheating cycles; group I (H0): The BF-RC was packed non-heated, group II (H1): BF-RC preheated once, and group III(H10): BF-RC preheated ten cycles. These restorations were evaluated at 1, 3,6, and 12 months, using the modified United States Public Health Service "USPHS". Statistical analysis was performed using Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann Whitney U test, and Friedmann test, where p = 0.05. RESULTS All the 105 restorations did not suffer from any clinical situation that recommended replacement regarding retention, fracture, secondary caries, or anatomical form. Although all performed restorations did have Alpha and Bravo scores with good clinical performance, the non-preheated RC restorations"" suffered from relatively inferior clinical performance through the follow-up period regarding marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration, and color matching when compared to preheated groups. One and ten times of preheating conducted better clinical performance. CONCLUSIONS After 12-months follow-up, although no restoration needed replacement or repair in the 3 tested groups, restorations with single and ten times of preheating aided in better clinical performance of RC restorations compared to the non-preheated restorations. Preheating of RC for 10 times could be used safely with good clinical performance of restorations. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE By continually preheating RC syringe up to ten times, the dentist will not only benefit from the enhanced clinical performance and easiness of application but also will use preheated RC syringes without hesitation, relying on the absence of drawbacks related to multiple preheating cycles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Aim of this prospective study was to assess full mouth rehabilitation of severe tooth wear patients using minimally invasive CAD/CAM resin-based composite (RBC) restorations and direct veneers by evaluating restoration survival up to 5.5-years. METHODS Twenty-two patients with generalized severe tooth wear with functional and/or esthetic problems were included. Following minimally invasive preparation, CAD/CAM RBC restorations (LAVA Ultimate,3M) were adhesively luted, direct RBC veneers (Filtek Supreme XTE, 3M) were applied in the aesthetic region. Patients were recalled after 1m,1y,3y,5y and seen in between recalls by their general dentists or at the clinical study center if complaints occurred. Failures were categorized as F1 (severe deficiencies requiring replacement/extraction), F2 (localized deficiencies requiring re-cementation/repair) and F3 (small chippings requiring refurbishment/monitoring). Survival of indirect restorations was evaluated using lifetables and Kaplan-Meier-graphs, distinguishing between failure categories and tooth type (front teeth=FT, premolars=PM, molars=M). F1 + F2 and F1 + F2 + F3 failures were analyzed using Cox regression on the variables tooth type/ location, age, gender and VDO increase (p < 0.05). RESULTS 568 indirect restorations and 200 direct veneers in 21 patients evaluated for up to 5.5-years. For indirect restorations, 96 failures were recorded (F1:6;F2:41;F3:49) and annual failure rates were 0.29%(FT), 1.56%(PM), 2.93%(M) for F1 +F2 and 0.53%(FT), 2.42%(PM), 6.11%(M) for F1 + F2 + F3. Reasons for failure were chipping fracture (48), adhesive fracture (32), complete debonding (7), caries (4), endodontic treatment (1) and reasons unknown (documentation general dentists, 4). Molar tooth type had a statistically significantly increased probability of failure compared with front teeth and premolars for F1 + F2 + F3 (p < 0.006). Direct veneer restorations showed 18 failures (F1:2;F2:9;F3:7). SIGNIFICANCE Minimally invasive CAD/CAM RBC restorations combined with direct RBC veneers showed an acceptable clinical mid-term survival for restorative rehabilitation of severely worn dentitions.

Abstract
The aim of this paper was to evaluate the fracture resistance of 3D-printed zirconia occlusal veneers (OVs) of different thicknesses and supported by different abutment materials. Materials and Methods: The standard OV of a natural molar was prepared and digitized using a laboratory 3D scanner. The resulting digital tooth abutment was milled either using cobalt-chromium (CoCr) or a fiber-reinforced composite (FRC). All the abutments were digitized and standardized OVs (30° tilt of all the cusps) designed with 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm, or 0.8 mm wall thicknesses. The OVs were fabricated using either the Programill PM7 milling device (Ivoclar Vivadent, PM) or one of two 3D zirconia printers, Cerafab 7500 (Lithoz, LC) or Zipro-D (AON, ZD). The ZD samples were only tested on CoCr abutments. The completed OVs were luted to their abutments and subjected to artificial aging, consisting of thermocycling and chewing simulation before fracture testing with a steel sphere (d = 8 mm) as an antagonist with three contact points on the occlusal OV surface. Besides the total fracture resistance Fu,tot, the lowest contact force Fu,cont leading to the local fracture of a cusp was of interest. The possible effects of the factors fabrication approach, wall thickness, and abutment material were evaluated using ANOVA (α = 0.05; SPSS Ver.28). Results: The total fracture resistance/contact forces leading to failure ranged from Fu,tot = 416 ± 83 N/Fu,cont = 140 ± 22 N for the 0.4 mm OVs fabricated using LC placed on the FRC abutments to Fu,tot = 3309 ± 394 N (ZD)/Fu,cont = 1206 ± 184 N (PM) for the 0.8 mm thick OVs on the CoCr abutments. All the factors (the fabrication approach, abutment material, and OV wall thickness) had an independent effect on Fu,tot as well as Fu,cont (p < 0.032). In pairwise comparisons for Fu,tot of the OVs luted to the CoCr abutments, the ZD samples statistically outperformed the LC- and PM-fabricated teeth irrespective of the thickness (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, the printed occlusal veneers exhibited comparable fracture resistances to those of the milled variants. However, more resilient abutments (FRC as a simulation of dentine) as well as a thinner wall thickness led to reduced OV fracture resistance, suggesting that 0.4 mm thick zirconia OVs should not be unreservedly used in every clinical situation.

Abstract
Immediate dentin sealing (IDS) is a method of improving the bond strength of indirect dental restorative materials to dentin and belongs to the biomimetic protocols of contemporary dentistry. The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the effect of IDS on the bond strength of resin-based CAD/CAM materials to dentin. PubMed and MEDLINE, Scopus, and the Web of Science were searched by two individual researchers, namely for studies that have been published in English between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2023 in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. The inclusion criteria encompassed articles related to in vitro studies, measuring the bond strength through microtensile bond strength (μ-TBS), micro-shear bond strength (μ-SBS), tensile bond strength (TBS) or shear bond strength (SBS) tests after the use of the IDS technique. The included restorative materials comprised resin-based CAD/CAM materials bonded to dentin. A total of 1821 studies were identified, of which 7 met the inclusion criteria. A meta-analysis was not deemed appropriate due to the high level of diversity inthe publications and techniques. The use of IDS yielded higher bond strength outcomesin various experimental conditions and resin-based CAD/CAM materials. Overall, IDS in CAD/CAM restorations may contribute to better clinical outcomesand improved restoration longevity due to this property.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The clinical complications, success, and survival rates of indirect restorations delivered with the immediate dentin sealing protocol are unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to find and collect evidence on the clinical complication, success, and survival rates of indirect restorations delivered with immediate dentin sealing. MATERIAL AND METHODS Electronic databases were searched for clinical studies on immediate dentin sealing up to December 2023, without language or time limitations. The records were included if they were clinical trials evaluating the clinical complication and survival rates of indirect restorations bonded to tooth substrate sealed immediately after preparation with suitable resin bonding. The extracted data were analyzed via Review Manager 5.4 for meta-analysis (α=.05). RESULTS A total of 11 studies were included in this review. The clinical complication rate was lower for immediately sealed dentin than for protocols without dentin sealing. The survival rate of restorations luted with the immediate dentin sealing protocol was higher (96.4% to 100%) than that of immediate dentin sealing (81.8% to 96.7%), negatively correlated with the observation time. The intensity and incidence of postoperative sensitivity were statistically significantly lower for restorations with immediate dentin sealing than for those without dentin sealing or conventionally cemented (P<.05). CONCLUSIONS Immediate dentin-sealed indirect restorations had fewer clinical complications and higher success and survival rates than those delivered without dentin sealing. To avoid postoperative sensitivity or reduce its intensity, dentin surfaces should be sealed immediately after preparation. More long-term randomized clinical trials are recommended to confirm these evidence-based conclusions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The authors evaluated the prognostic factors associated with pulp status in patients with cracked teeth (CT) treated with occlusal veneer. METHODS An analysis of 80 CT (71 patients) with 1 or more crack lines (CLs) and normal pulp vitality or reversible pulpitis was performed. All patients received occlusal veneer and their demographic and clinical data were recorded. Pulp status and clinical features were recorded at 1 week and posttreatment at 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months. RESULTS Maxillary first molars were commonly involved (30 [38%]). The number of CLs on the finish line ranged from 1 through 7 and most had 3 CLs (24 [30%]). The number of CLs through preparation on the finish line ranged from 0 through 4, and 2 CLs (42 [53%]) were the most prevalent. During follow-up, 5 of 80 CT progressed to pulp disease, resulting in a success rate of 93.8%. Results of the Cox model and Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that probing depth greater than 6 mm, widening periodontal ligament of apical area, more than 4 CLs on finish line, and more than 2 CLs through preparation on the finish line were risk factors associated with pulp status (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS Occlusal veneer can protect CT without preventive root canal therapy. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS The success rate and risk factors of pulp disease in CT restored with occlusal veneer are reported.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of ceramic thickness and dental substrate (enamel vs. dentin/enamel) on the survival rate and failure load of non-retentive occlusal veneers. MATERIALS AND METHODS Human maxillary molars (n = 60) were divided into five test-groups (n = 12). The groups (named DE-1.5, DE-1.0, DE-0.5, E-1.0, E-0.5) differed in their dental substrate (E = enamel, DE = dentin/enamel) and restoration thickness (standard: 1.5 mm, thin: 1.0 mm, ultrathin: 0.5 mm). All teeth were prepared for non-retentive monolithic lithium-disilicate occlusal veneers (IPS e.max Press, Ivoclar). Restorations were adhesively cemented (Syntac Classic/Variolink II, Ivoclar) and exposed to thermomechanical fatigue (1.2 million cycles, 1.6 Hz, 49 N/ 5-55°C). Single load to failure was performed using a universal testing-machine. A linear-regression model was applied, pairwise comparisons used the Student-Newman-Keuls method (p < 0.05). RESULTS Three dentin-based occlusal veneers (one DE-1.0, two DE-0.5) revealed cracks after fatigue exposure, which corresponds to an overall-survival rate of 95%. Load to failure resulted in the following ranking: 2142 N(DE-0.5) > 2105 N(E-1.0) > 2075 N(E-0.5) > 1440 N(DE-1.5) > 1430 N(DE-1.0). Thin (E-1.0) and ultrathin enamel-based occlusal veneers (E-0.5) revealed high failure loads and surpassed the standard thickness dentin-based veneers (DE-1.5) significantly (p = 0.044, p = 0.022). CONCLUSION All tested monolithic lithium disilicate occlusal veneers obtained failure loads above physiological chewing forces. Thin and ultrathin enamel-based occlusal veneers outperformed the standard thick dentin-based occlusal veneers. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Minimally invasive enamel-based occlusal veneer restorations with non-retentive preparation design may serve as a conservative treatment option.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the flexural strength and fatigue behavior of a novel 3D-printed composite resin for definitive restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty disc-shaped specimens were manufactured from each of a nanohybrid composite resin (NHC), polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN), and 3D-printed composite resin (3D) with CAD-CAM technology. Biaxial flexural strength (σin ) (n = 30 per group) and biaxial flexural fatigue strength (σff ) (n = 20 per group) were measured using piston-on-three-balls method, employing a staircase approach of 105 cycles. Weibull statistics, relative-strength degradation calculations, and fractography were performed. The results were analyzed with 1-way ANOVA and Games-Howell post hoc test (α = 0.05). RESULTS Significant differences in σin and σff among the groups (p < 0.001) were detected. The NHC group provided the highest mean ± standard deviation σin and σff (237.3 ± 31.6 MPa and 141.3 ± 3.8 MPa), followed by the PICN (140.3 ± 12.9 MPa and 73.5 ± 9.9 MPa) and the 3D (83.6 ± 18.5 MPa and 37.4 ± 23.8 MPa) groups. The 3D group exhibited significantly lower Weibull modulus (m = 4.7) and up to 15% higher relative strength degradation with areas of nonhomogeneous microstructure as possible fracture origins. CONCLUSIONS The 3D-printed composite resin exhibited the lowest mechanical properties, where areas of nonhomogeneous microstructure developed during the mixing procedure served as potential fracture origins. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The clinical indications of the investigated novel 3D-printed composite resin should be limited to long-term provisional restorations. A cautious procedure for mixing the components is crucial before the 3D-printing process, since nonhomogeneous areas developed during the mixing could act as fracture origins.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the influence of restoration design (partial-coverage restoration vs. crown) and ceramic layer thickness on the performance and failure loads of CAD/CAM-fabricated lithium disilicate (LDS) reconstructions on molars after fatigue. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy-two posterior monolithic CAD/CAM-fabricated LDS restorations (IPS e.max CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent) with different occlusal/buccal ceramic layer thicknesses (1.5/0.8, 1.0/0.6, and 0.5/0.4 mm) and restoration designs (PCR: non-retentive full-veneer/partial-coverage restoration, C: crown,) were investigated and divided into six groups (n = 12, test: PCR-1.5, PCR-1.0, PCR-0.5; control: C-1.5, C-1.0, C-0.5). LDS restorations were adhesively bonded (Variolink Esthetic DC, Ivoclar Vivadent) to dentin-analogue composite dies (Z100, 3M ESPE). All specimens were subjected to thermomechanical loading (1.2 million cycles, 49 N, 1.6 Hz, 5-55°C) and exposed to single load to failure testing. Failure analysis was performed with light and scanning electron microscopies. Data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA, Tukey-Test, and t-test (p < 0.05). RESULTS Eight crown samples (C-0.5) and one PCR specimen (PCR-0.5) revealed cracks after fatigue, resulting in an overall success rate of 87.5% (crowns: 75%, PCRs: 96.88%). Direct comparisons of PCRs versus crowns for thicknesses of 0.5 mm (p < 0.001) and 1.0 mm (p = 0.004) were significant and in favor of PCRs. Minimally invasive PCRs (0.5 and 1.0 mm) outperformed crowns with the identical ceramic thickness. No difference was detected (p = 0.276) between thickness 1.5 mm PCRs and crowns. CONCLUSIONS Minimally invasive monolithic CAD/CAM-fabricated posterior LDS PCRs (0.5 and 1.0 mm) resulted in superior failure load values compared to minimally invasive crowns. Minimally invasive crowns (0.5 mm) are prone to cracks after fatigue. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Minimally invasive CAD/CAM-fabricated LDS PCR restorations with a non-retentive preparation design should be considered over single crowns for molar rehabilitation.

Abstract
Excessive wear of the natural dentition results in the loss of tooth anatomy and the vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) which may necessitate full mouth rehabilitation. Successful full-mouth rehabilitation with increased VDO requires accurate recording and transfer of the newly raised VDO with provisional restorations. Conventional bite registration can incur errors during the recording and transfer of vertical dimensions. This article introduces a digital approach-the superimposition of scans using an intraoral scanner (IOS) to transfer VDO, occlusion, and aesthetic data from provisional restorations for designing and fabricating indirect restorations in the management of worn-out dentition.

Abstract
This review discusses both preventive measures and clinically implemented therapy procedures that have been developed recently for the prevention and treatment of tooth erosion. METHODS The databases PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were used for a thorough search. Studies on the prevention and treatment of dental erosion that were conducted in English and used in vitro were among the inclusion criteria. RESULTS The search turned up 391 papers in total, with 34 of those publications matching the requirements for inclusion. Varnishes, toothpastes, and solutions containing fluoride and other substances were used as preventive measures. CONCLUSIONS Dental erosion is a significant issue, and taking preventative steps is crucial to lessening the disease's spread and its effects. Interventions based on fluoride seem to be successful at halting erosion and encouraging remineralization. To effectively address severe tooth erosion, therapeutic methods, including composite restorations, prosthetic crowns, and veneers, are available. Dental erosion causes aesthetic and functional issues that are best addressed with less invasive treatments like direct composite restorations. To improve and broaden the range of available treatments for this common dental issue, additional research and development are required.

METHODS 63 CT were analyzed, and their demographic and clinical data and medical history were collected. Patients were followed-up to examine the relief of thermal/biting sensitivity. RESULTS The maxillary first molar was the most prevalent (N = 25, 40%). The number of crack lines on the finish line ranged from 1 to 6 while the number of crack lines through preparation on the finish line from 0 to 4. Pain relief achieved steadily to 52% for thermal and 62% for biting at 1 week to over 90% for each by 3 months and was completely resolved (no pain) for each by 12 months. Painful of lateral percussion was related to a long period of thermal sensitivity (≥1 month) after restoration with occlusal veneer. The number of crack lines through preparation on the finish line >2 was correlated with biting sensitivity (≥1 month) post-treatment. CONCLUSIONS Most patients (>90%) became asymptomatic of biting and thermal sensitivity within 3 months of CT restored by occlusal veneer. Lateral percussion and the number of crack lines through preparation on the finish line could be significant factors affecting postoperative symptoms. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Occlusal veneer is an ultrathin restoration and had no need for restricting clinical crown height, which could protect and relief the biting/thermal sensitivity of CT without preventive root canal therapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of cusp inclination of the prosthetic preparation's occlusal surface and type of restorative material on the fatigue behavior, failure mode, and stress distribution of occlusal veneers. MATERIALS AND METHODS Glass fiber-reinforced epoxy resin prosthetic preparations for occlusal veneers with three different occlusal surface cusp inclination degrees (0°, 15°, and 30°) were produced and assigned into six testing groups (n = 11) according to the cusp inclination (0°, 15°, or 30°) and type of restorative material (lithium disilicate-LD or resin composite-RC). Despite different substrate preparation cusp inclination degrees, the restorations were designed maintaining 30° inclination between the cusps at the occlusal surface and a thickness of 0.7 mm at the central groove region of the restorations to be machined in a CAD/CAM system. After cementation, the specimens were stored for about 7 days (under water at 37 °C), and subsequently submitted to a load to failure test (n = 2) and an intermittent cyclic fatigue test (n = 9) (initial load: 100 N; step size: 50 N; cycles/step: 10,000; loading frequency: 20 Hz; loading piston: 6-mm-diameter stainless steel) until observing cracks. The data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA, Kaplan-Meier, and Mantel-Cox post hoc tests. Finite element analysis (FEA) and fractographic analyses were performed. RESULTS The fatigue performance of LD and RC occlusal veneers was evaluated based on different prosthetic preparation cusp inclinations. The 0° inclination showed the best fatigue performance for both materials (LD: 944N, RC: 861N), while the 15° and 30° inclinations had lower values (LD: 800N and 533N, RC: 739N and 717N, respectively). The study also found that for a 0° inclination, LD occlusal veneers performed better than RC ones (LD: 944 N > RC: 861N), while for a 30° inclination, RC occlusal veneers had better fatigue performance than LD ones (LD: 533N < RC: 717N). No significant difference was observed between the materials for a 15° inclination (LD: 800N = RC: 739N). The FEA results showed a higher tensile stress concentration on lithium disilicate than on resin composite occlusal veneers. All lithium disilicate occlusal veneers showed radial crack failures, while resin composite occlusal veneers showed Hertzian cone cracks and radial cracks combined. CONCLUSION Considering mechanical perspective only, RC occlusal veneers should be indicated when prosthetic preparation cusps inclinations are 30°. When 0° prosthetic preparation cusps inclinations are observed, LD occlusal veneers will behave mechanically better. When a 15° cusp inclination is preserved, both restorative materials behave similarly.

Abstract
Pathological tooth wear is an escalating social problem. Occlusal veneers can be an alternative to traditional prosthetic restorations such as crowns, inlays, and onlays. BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to assess the fracture resistance of occlusal veneers made of various materials depending on their thickness. METHODS In total, 120 occlusal veneers were examined. The restorations were made of four ceramics: leucite LC (IPS Empress Esthetic), hybrid HC (Vita Enamic), lithium disilicate LDC (IPS e.max Press), and zirconium oxide ZOC (Ceramill Zolid HT). A total of 30 veneers were made of each material, 10 for each of the three thicknesses: 1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm. The restorations were cemented on identical abutments duplicated from the developed phantom tooth 35 (KaVo) with composite cement (All Bond Universal). The samples prepared in this way were subjected to a compressive strength test in a universal testing machine. Statistical analysis of the results was performed. RESULTS The average fracture resistance of occlusal veneers made of zirconium oxide ceramic was 1086-1640 N, of lithium disilicate ceramics 456-1044 N, of hybrid ceramics 449-576 N, and of leucite ceramics 257-499 N. CONCLUSIONS Occlusal veneers made of ceramics, zirconium oxide and lithium disilicate, had the highest resistance to fractures. Restorations made of leucite ceramics turned out to be the least resistant to forces. The greater the thickness of the ceramic occlusal veneers, the greater their fracture resistance.

Abstract An occlusal veneer is an ultrathin restoration method and a minimally invasive approach that can preserve more dental tissue and provide better aesthetic outcomes, thus increasing patient satisfaction; however, no previous studies reported on treating cracked teeth using occlusal veneer. Accordingly, we described the diagnosis and treatment process of a cracked tooth using occlusal veneer in a single case. A 29-year-old male presented at our dental clinic complaining of biting pain in the mandibular molar on the right-hand side. A routine oral examination with radiography was performed to evaluate the oral condition and treatment planning. The #16 tooth had a crack line surrounding the whole distal-lingual cusp from the occlusal surface. After discussing various therapeutic options with the patient, an occlusal veneer was performed. One week after treatment with occlusal veneer, the patient had no complaints. A 14-month follow-up showed promising clinical and radiographic outcomes. Occlusal veneer is an alternative treatment option for a cracked tooth, as it can preserve more dental tissue and potentially save pulp vitality.

Abstract
AIMS To evaluate the influence of the type of preparation and mechanical cycling on the fracture load and failure mode of semi-direct posterior resin composite restorations. METHODS In total, 70 healthy third molars were used; 10 belonging to the control group (C - unprepared teeth) and 60 teeth prepared and restored with nanoparticle resin composite, divided into 3 groups (n = 20): O - exclusively occlusal preparation (Table Top); OV - occlusal preparation with buccal extension (Veneerlay); OVP - Occlusal preparation with chamfer on the proximal and buccal-lingual/palatal surfaces (Overlay). The preparations were performed with diamond burs with a thickness of 1 mm. The restorations were made with nanoparticulate resin composite (Filtek Z350 XT) and subsequently received additional polymerization (thermoprocessing). Cementation was performed with the use of universal adhesive system (Single Bond Universal) on dental substrate and dual resin cement (RelyX ARC). Half of the teeth in each group (n = 10) were submitted to mechanical cycling, simulating 6 months of clinical service (5 × 105 fatigue cycles), under dynamic loading of 130 N, at a frequency of 2Hz. Fracture load tests were performed in a universal testing machine with a 200 kgf load cell. Failure mode was classified using scores. Generalized linear models and Fisher Exact tests were applied to the data (significance level of 5%). RESULTS There were no significant differences between the types of preparation (p = 0.9435), or relative to cycling (p = 0.3764). The Fisher Exact Test showed a significant association between the groups and the type of failure (p = 0.0006), with preparations O (with cycling) and OVP (with and without cycling) exhibiting most failures with restoration fractures without involvement of the dental remnant. CONCLUSIONS Semi-direct restorations showed resistance to fracture load similar to that of healthy teeth and were capable of withstanding functional masticatory loads. The type of preparation influenced the failure mode of teeth. The Table Top and Overlay types of preparations were those had fewer catastrophic failures, suggesting that since they are more conservative preparations, they made it possible for the tooth to receive a new restorative procedure in the future in cases of failures.

Abstract
AIM The systematic review presented herein was performed to descriptively analyze the causes for the failure of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) restorations. The meta-analysis reported herein was performed to estimate long-term survival and success rates of CAD-CAM fabrications. MATERIALS AND METHODS Using the PICOS paradigm, a systematic search was carried out in the PubMed and Cochrane databases to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and prospective observational studies reporting survival data for CAD/CAM restorations. After selecting studies with a predefined set of selection criteria, data from included prospective clinical studies and RCTs were used for a systematic review aimed at a descriptive analysis of factors associated with failure of CAD-CAM restorations. Data from the included prospective clinical studies were used for meta-analysis, wherein 5-year and 10-year survival and success rates were estimated using Poisson regression models. RESULTS The systematic review included data from 9 RCTs and 6 observational studies, which had a median follow-up of 36 months and 60 months, respectively. About 58 failures and 118 technical/ biological complications were noted in the included RCTs and 9 failures along with 58 technical/biological complications were noted in the prospective clinical studies. Poisson regression indicated an estimated 5-year and 10-year survival rates of 85.55-100 and 71-100, respectively. The estimated 5-year and 10-year success rates were 74.2-92.75 and 33.3-85.5, respectively. CONCLUSION Several technical and biological complications contribute to failure of CAD/CAM restorations. However, CAD/CAM restorations with routine chairside materials might have clinically meaningful success rates in the long term. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The results presented herein indicate that optimal strategies for mitigation of biological and technical complications may augment the success of CAD/CAM fabrications in restorative dentistry. Studies aimed at identification of such strategies are needed to further enhance the long-term success rates of CAD/CAM restorations.

Abstract
Nowadays, the ceramic veneer approach can be considered more predictable than direct composite veneer. To date, there is a lack of studies comparing the clinical performance of anterior veneers cemented on vital teeth (VT) and non-vital teeth (NVT). This longitudinal clinical study investigated the performance of ceramic veneers in VT or anterior NVT. A total of 55 patients were evaluated in the study. Two groups were defined based on the vitality status of the teeth (93 teeth-vital and 61 teeth-non-vital). The United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria were used to assess the clinical status. The data were evaluated statistically with the Mann-Whitney U test. All restorations were considered acceptable, and only one veneer in VT failed for the criteria of secondary caries. There were no statistically significant differences in any of the criteria evaluated (p ≤ 0.671). The ceramic veneers evaluated showed a satisfactory clinical performance both in VT and NVT.

Abstract
This paper deals with direct restorations of teeth with non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL). NCCL defects are capable of gradual growth and are accompanied by the degradation of the surrounding tissue. Direct restorative treatment, in which the cavity is filled with a cementing agent, is considered to be an accessible and common treatment option. The study included simulations of the teeth without lesions, the teeth with V and U lesions and the tooth-restorative system. Parameterised numerical tooth models were constructed. Two cases with defect depths of 0.8 mm and ~1.7 mm and three variants with fillet radii of the defect end of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mm were considered. The effect of two biomaterials for restorations was studied, namely Herculite XRV (Kerr Corp, Orange, CA, USA) and Charisma (Heraeus Kulzer GmbH, Hanau, Germany). The models were deformed with a vertical load of 100 to 1000 N from the antagonist tooth. The tooth-restorative system was considered, taking into consideration the contact interaction in the interface areas with the tooth tissues. Within the limits of the research, the character of the distribution of the deformation characteristics and their dependence on the level of loading, the depth of the defect and the radius of the curvature of the "wedge" were established.
