Abstract
BACKGROUND Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metals were associated with decreased lung function, but co-exposure effects and underlying mechanism remained unknown. METHODS Among 1,123 adults from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2012, 10 urinary PAHs, 11 urinary metals, and peripheral white blood cell (WBC) count were determined, and 5 lung function indices were measured. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator, Bayesian kernel machine regression, and quantile-based g-computation were used to estimate co-exposure effects on lung function. Mediation analysis was used to explore mediating role of WBC. RESULTS These models demonstrated that PAHs and metals were significantly associated with lung function impairment. Bayesian kernel machine regression models showed that comparing to all chemicals fixed at median level, forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1)/forced vital capacity, peak expiratory flow, and forced expiratory flow between 25 and 75% decreased by 1.31% (95% CI: 0.72%, 1.91%), 231.62 (43.45, 419.78) mL/s, and 131.64 (37.54, 225.74) mL/s respectively, when all chemicals were at 75th percentile. In the quantile-based g-computation, each quartile increase in mixture was associated with 104.35 (95% CI: 40.67, 168.02) mL, 1.16% (2.11%, 22.40%), 294.90 (78.37, 511.43) mL/s, 168.44 (41.66, 295.22) mL/s decrease in the FEV1, FEV1/forced vital capacity, peak expiratory flow, and forced expiratory flow between 25% and 75%, respectively. 2-Hydroxyphenanthrene, 3-Hydroxyfluorene, and cadmium were leading contributors to the above associations. WBC mediated 8.22%-23.90% of association between PAHs and lung function. CONCLUSIONS Co-exposure of PAHs and metals impairs lung function, and WBC could partially mediate this relationship. Our findings elucidate co-exposure effects of environmental mixtures on respiratory health and underlying mechanisms, suggesting that focusing on highly prioritized toxicants would effectively attenuate adverse effects.

Abstract
A growing body of literature has attempted to characterize how traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) affects molecular and subclinical biological processes in ways that could lead to cardiorespiratory disease. To provide a streamlined synthesis of what is known about the multiple mechanisms through which TRAP could lead to cardiorespiratory pathology, we conducted a systematic review of the epidemiological literature relating TRAP exposure to methylomic, proteomic, and metabolomic biomarkers in adult populations. Using the 139 papers that met our inclusion criteria, we identified the omic biomarkers significantly associated with short- or long-term TRAP and used these biomarkers to conduct pathway and network analyses. We considered the evidence for TRAP-related associations with biological pathways involving lipid metabolism, cellular energy production, amino acid metabolism, inflammation and immunity, coagulation, endothelial function, and oxidative stress. Our analysis suggests that an integrated multi-omics approach may provide critical new insights into the ways TRAP could lead to adverse clinical outcomes. We advocate for efforts to build a more unified approach for characterizing the dynamic and complex biological processes linking TRAP exposure and subclinical and clinical disease and highlight contemporary challenges and opportunities associated with such efforts.

Abstract
White blood cells (WBCs) act as mediators of inflammatory responses and are commonly measured in hospitals. Although several studies have reported a relation between WBC count and mortality, no systematic review or meta-analysis has been conducted. This study aimed to identify an association between WBC count and mortality. We conducted a systematic search on Embase using keywords such as "white blood cell" and "mortality." We analyzed the hazard ratios (HRs) for WBC count of 1.0 × 109 cells/L regarding 2 criteria: the cause of mortality and the follow-up period. A total of 13 of 222 articles comprising a total of 62,904 participants were included in this study, meeting the criteria set. A positive association was observed between WBC count and mortality, as indicated by an HR of 1.10 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.08 to 1.13). In additionally, WBC count emerged as a significant predictor of mortality in both groups, with an HR of 1.10 (95% CI 1.07 to 1.12) for patients with cardiovascular disease and an HR of 1.12 (95% CI 1.07 to 1.17) for the general population or patients with COVID-19. Furthermore, a higher WBC count demonstrated a significant association with long-term all-cause mortality (HR 1.09, 95% CI 1.07 to 1.12) and long-term cardiovascular mortality (HR 1.05, 95% CI 1.02 to 1.07). Similarly, a significant association was found between higher WBC count and short-term all-cause mortality (HR 1.12, 95% CI 1.09 to 1.16) and cardiovascular mortality (HR 1.12, 95% CI 1.07 to 1.17). Further research is necessary to explore the relation between WBC count and disease progression or death and to establish causality between elevated WBC count and disease progression.

Abstract
The functioning of the respiratory system can be interfered with by exposure to mixtures of environmental chemicals, however, the evidence is still ambiguous. We evaluated the association of exposure to mixtures of 14 chemicals, including 2 phenols, 2 parabens, and 10 phthalates, with four major lung function metrics. Based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007-2012, this analysis was conducted among 1462 children aged 6-19 years. Linear regression, Bayesian kernel machine regression, quantile-based g-computation regression, and a generalized additive model were performed to estimate the associations. Mediation analyses were performed to investigate plausible biological pathways mediated by immune cells. Our results indicated that the phenols, parabens, and phthalates mixture was negatively related to lung function parameters. And BPA and PP were identified as important contributors to negative associations with FEV1, FVC, and PEF, with non-linear relationships observed between BPA and those outcomes. The most influential factor for a probable FEF25-75 % decline was MCNP. BPA, and MCNP had an interaction effect on FEF25-75 %. The association of PP with FVC and FEV1 has been postulated to be mediated by neutrophils and monocytes. The findings offer insights into the associations of chemical mixtures with respiratory health and the possible driving mechanism, which would be of significance in adding novel evidence of the role of peripheral immune responses, as well as calling for remediation actions to be prioritized during childhood.

Abstract
One of the hallmarks of health is the integrity of barriers at the cellular and tissue levels. The two cardinal functions of barriers include preventing access of deleterious elements of the environment (barrier function) while facilitating the transport of essential ions, signaling molecules and nutrients needed to maintain the internal milieu (transport function). There are several cellular and subcellular barriers and some of these barriers can be interrelated. The principal physiologic barriers include blood-retinal barrier, blood-brain barrier, blood-testis barrier, renal glomerular/tubular barrier, intestinal barrier, pulmonary blood-alveolar barrier, blood-placental barrier and skin barrier. Tissue specific barriers are the result of the vasculature, cellular composition of the tissue and extracellular matrix within the tissue. Uncontrolled diabetes and acute hyperglycemia may disrupt the integrity of physiologic barriers, primarily through altering the vascular integrity of the tissues and may well contribute to the clinically recognized complications of diabetes. Although diabetes is a systemic disease, some of the organs display clinically significant deterioration in function while others undergo subclinical changes. The pathophysiology of the disruption of these barriers is not entirely clear but it may be related to diabetes-related cellular stress. Understanding the mechanisms of diabetes related dysfunction of various physiologic barriers might help identifying novel therapeutic targets for reducing clinically significant complications of diabetes.

The Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and Preoperative Pulmonary Function Test Results as Predictors of In-Hospital Postoperative Complications after Hip Fracture Surgery in Older Adults. Abstract
Purpose: This study retrospectively evaluated the usefulness of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and pulmonary function test (PFT) results as objective predictors of in-hospital postoperative complications after hip fracture surgery in older adults. Methods: The patients aged >65 years who underwent hip fracture surgery under general anaesthesia were enrolled. In-hospital postoperative complications with preoperative NLR, PNI and PFT results were evaluated. The NLR was calculated as the preoperative neutrophil count/lymphocyte count in peripheral blood. The PNI was calculated as the serum albumin (g/dL) × 10 + total lymphocyte count × 0.005 (/mm3). Results: One hundred ninety nine patients were analysed. The most common postoperative complications were respiratory complications. Compared with patients who did not have postoperative complications, patients with postoperative complications had a significantly higher NLR (8.01 ± 4.70 vs. 5.12 ± 4.34, p < 0.001), whereas they had a significantly lower PNI (38.33 ± 6.80 vs. 42.67 ± 6.47, p < 0.001), preoperative functional vital capacity (FVC; 2.04 ± 0.76 vs. 2.45 ± 0.71 L, p < 0.001), and forced expiratory volume at 1 s (FEV1; 1.43 ± 0.53 vs. 1.78 ± 0.58 L, p < 0.001). Multiple logistic regression analysis identified NLR (odds ratio [OR], 1.142; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.060−1.230; p < 0.001) and FEV1 (OR, 0.340; 95% CI, 0.191−0.603; p < 0.001) as risk factors for postoperative complications after hip fracture surgery. Conclusion: Preoperative NLR and FEV1 are objective predictors of in-hospital postoperative complications after hip fracture surgery in older patients.

Abstract
We sought to investigate differential phenotypic characteristics according to neutrophil counts, using a biostatistics approach in a large-cohort study from the Spanish Online Bronchiectasis Registry (RIBRON). The 1034 patients who met the inclusion criteria were clustered into two groups on the basis of their blood neutrophil levels. Using the Mann-Whitney U test to explore potential differences according to FACED and EFACED scores between the two groups, a neutrophil count of 4990 cells/µL yielded the most balanced cluster sizes: (1) above-threshold (n = 337) and (2) below-threshold (n = 697) groups. Patients above the threshold showed significantly worse lung function parameters and nutritional status, while systemic inflammation levels were higher than in the below-threshold patients. In the latter group, the proportions of patients with mild disease were greater, while a more severe disease was present in the above-threshold patients. According to the blood neutrophil counts using biostatistics analyses, two distinct clinical phenotypes of stable patients with non-CF bronchiectasis were defined. Patients falling into the above-threshold cluster were more severe. Severity was characterized by a significantly impaired lung function parameters and nutritional status, and greater systemic inflammation. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS White blood cell (WBC) count is an easily obtainable biomarker of systematic inflammation. Our study aimed to investigate the associations of differential WBC count with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in a general Asian population. METHODS AND RESULTS Cox proportional hazards model was used to evaluate the associations of WBC count with mortality separately for men and women, with adjustment for multiple variables including age, smoking, and other lifestyle factors. Stratified analyses by age, smoking, diabetes, and hypertension were conducted to explore potential effect modification. Elevated WBC count was significantly associated with increased mortality risk. The adjusted hazard ratios of total WBC (10th decile compared to decile of lowest risk) for all-cause mortality were 1.42 (95% CI: 1.33, 1.53) for men and 1.54 (95% CI: 1.42, 1.68) for women. Similar risks were observed for neutrophils, monocytes, and neutrophil/lymphocyte (NL) ratio. The highest deciles of neutrophils, monocytes, and NL ratio were also positively associated with risk of cardiovascular/cerebrovascular, cancer, and respiratory mortality after adjusting for covariates. Results for all-cause mortality remained statistically significant for participants who were <60 years old, non-smokers, non-diabetic, and non-hypertensive. CONCLUSIONS Total and differential WBC counts (neutrophils, monocytes, and NL ratios) are positively associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular, cancer, and respiratory mortality among Taiwanese adults.

Abstract
Although an association between urinary phthalate (PAE) metabolites and respiratory symptoms and diseases has been reported, knowledge regarding its effect on pulmonary function is limited, especially in adolescents. Using cross-sectional data from 1389 adolescents (aged 10-19 years) in the 2007-2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the association of mixed urinary PAE metabolites with pulmonary function was evaluated using the weighted quantile sum. Moreover, multivariate linear regression was performed to investigate associations between each urinary PAE metabolite and pulmonary function indicators and to estimate the interaction effects between urinary PAE metabolites and demographic characteristics. We found that mixed urinary PAE metabolites were negatively associated with forced expiratory volume at the 1 s (FEV1, p < 0.001) and forced vital capacity (FVC, p = 0.008) levels. In individual PAE metabolite analyses, mono (carboxynonyl) pthalate (MCNP), mono-n-butyl pthalate (MnBP), mono-isobutyl pthalate (MiBP), mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate (MEOHP) and mono-benzyl phthalate (MBzP) correlated negatively with both FVC and FEV1 values (Holm-Bonferroni corrected p < 0.05). Mono-(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (MEHHP) was negatively associated with the FVC value. Significant interactions between sex and urinary MnBP or MBzP levels for the risk of FEV1 decrease in girls were found (p = 0.005), as was a significant interaction between sex and urinary MBzP level for the risk of FVC decline. Our findings suggest that higher PAE exposure is associated with respiratory dysfunction; the association is more pronounced among girls.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The clinical context for using blood eosinophil (EOS) counts as treatment-response biomarkers in asthma and COPD requires better understanding of EOS distributions and ranges. We describe EOS distributions and ranges published in asthma, COPD, control (non-asthma/COPD) and general populations. METHODS We conducted a comprehensive literature review and meta-analysis of observational studies (January 2008 to November 2018) that included EOS counts in asthma, severe asthma, COPD, control and general populations. Excluded studies had total sample sizes <200, EOS as inclusion criterion, hospitalised population only and exclusively paediatric participants. RESULTS Overall, 91 eligible studies were identified, most had total-population-level data available: asthma (39 studies), severe asthma (12 studies), COPD (23 studies), control (seven studies) and general populations (14 studies); some articles reported data for multiple populations. Reported EOS distributions were right-skewed (seven studies). Reported median EOS counts ranged from 157-280 cells·µL-1 (asthma, 22 studies); 200-400 cells·µL-1 (severe asthma, eight studies); 150-183 cells·µL-1 (COPD, six studies); and 100-160 cells·µL-1 (controls, three studies); and 100-200 cells·µL-1 (general populations, six studies). The meta-analysis showed that observed variability was mostly between studies rather than within studies. Factors reportedly associated with higher blood EOS counts included current smoking, positive skin-prick test, elevated total IgE, comorbid allergic rhinitis, age ≤18 years, male sex, spirometric asthma/COPD diagnosis, metabolic syndrome and adiposity. CONCLUSION EOS distribution and range varied by study population, and were affected by clinical factors including age, smoking history and comorbidities, which, regardless of severity, should be considered during treatment decision-making.

Abstract
Objective Iron and steel industry workers are exposed to high levels of inhalable dust particles that contain various elements, including metals, and cause occupational lung diseases. We aim to assess the relationship between occupational dust exposure, systemic inflammation, and spirometric decline in a cohort of Chinese iron and steel workers. Methods We studied 7513 workers who participated in a Health Surveillance program at Wugang Institute for Occupational Health between 2008 and 2017. Time-weighted exposure intensity (TWEI) of dust was quantified based on self-reported dust exposure history, the experience of occupational hygienists, and historical data of dust exposure for workers with certain job titles. A linear mixed-effects model was used for association analyses. Results The average annual change of lung function was − 50.78 ml/year in forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) and − 34.36 ml/year in forced vital capacity (FVC) in males, and − 39.06 ml/year in FEV1 and − 26.66 ml/year in FVC in females. Higher TWEI prior to baseline was associated with lower longitudinal measurements of FEV1 and FVC but not with their decline rates. Higher WBC and its differential at baseline were associated with lower longitudinal measurements and a more rapid decline of FEV1 and FVC in a dose-dependent monotonically increasing manner. Moreover, the increase of WBC and its differential post-baseline was also associated with a more rapid decline of FEV1 and FVC. Conclusions Our findings support the important role of systemic inflammation in affecting the temporal change of lung function in iron and steel industry workers. Abstract
Whether high blood eosinophil counts may define a better phenotype in bronchiectasis patients, as shown in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), remains to be investigated. Differential phenotypic characteristics according to eosinophil counts were assessed using a biostatistical approach in a large cohort study from the Spanish Online Bronchiectasis Registry (RIBRON). The 906 patients who met the inclusion criteria were clustered into two groups on the basis of their eosinophil levels. The potential differences according to the bronchiectasis severity index (BSI) score between two groups (Mann–Whitney U test and eosinophil count threshold: 100 cells/µL) showed the most balanced cluster sizes: above-threshold and below-threshold groups. Patients above the threshold exhibited significantly better clinical outcomes, lung function, and nutritional status, while showing lower systemic inflammation levels. The proportion of patients with mild disease was higher in the above-threshold group, while the below-threshold patients were more severe. Two distinct clinical phenotypes of stable patients with non-cystic fibrosis (CF) bronchiectasis of a wide range of disease severity were established on the basis of blood eosinophil counts using a biostatistical approach. Patients classified within the above-threshold cluster were those exhibiting a mild disease, significantly better clinical outcomes, lung function, and nutritional status while showing lower systemic inflammatory levels. These results will contribute to better characterizing bronchiectasis patients into phenotypic profiles with their clinical implications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardio-metabolic risk factors might have an adverse effect on respiratory outcomes, but associations in children are unknown. We aimed to study the longitudinal associations of cardio-metabolic risk factors with lung function and asthma at school age. We also examined whether any association was explained by child's body mass index (BMI). METHODS In a population-based cohort study among 4988 children, cardio-metabolic risk factors were measured at 6 and 10 years and included blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin, and C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations. At age 10 years, lung function was measured by spirometry and current physician-diagnosed asthma was assessed by questionnaire. RESULTS After adjustment for confounders, child's BMI, and multiple testing, we observed that a higher diastolic blood pressure at the age of 6 years was associated with a higher forced vital capacity (FVC) at the age of 10 years (Z-score difference (95% CI): 0.05 (0.01, 0.08), per SDS increase in diastolic blood pressure). Also, child's CRP concentrations above the 75th percentile at both ages 6 and 10 years were related to a lower FVC as compared to CRP concentrations below the 75th percentile at both ages (Z-score difference (95% CI) -0.21 (-0.36, -0.06)). No consistent associations of other cardio-metabolic risk factors with respiratory outcomes were observed. CONCLUSION Blood pressure and CRP, but not lipids and insulin, were associated with lower lung function but not with asthma. The underlying mechanisms and long-term effects of these associations require further investigation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Development of asthma is complicated by the multidimensional nature of the disease. OBJECTIVE To identify and characterize trajectories of asthma from infancy to young adulthood, and their associations with lung function and inflammatory and respiratory markers in adolescence and young adulthood. METHODS A latent class analysis was performed in a population-based cohort (N = 4089). Parental and self-reported symptoms of asthma were used to investigate asthma development. We characterized background factors, allergic comorbidity, and IgE sensitization and investigated associations with asthma markers. RESULTS A 4-class solution of asthma trajectories was identified: never/infrequent (n = 3291 [80.4%]), early-onset transient (n = 307 [7.5%]), adolescent-onset (n = 261 [6.4%]), and persistent asthma (n = 230 [5.6%]). Uncontrolled asthma was equally prevalent in the adolescent-onset and persistent asthma trajectory groups, at both age 16 (41.7% vs 42.4%; P = .90) and 24 years (53.7% vs 52.4%; P = .81). The persistent asthma trajectory group had a higher proportion of eosinophil counts greater than or equal to 0.3 (109 cells/L) at age 24 years compared with the adolescent-onset trajectory group (31.0% vs 18.5%; P < .01). CONCLUSIONS The adolescent-onset and persistent asthma trajectory groups had equal burdens of asthma control in adolescence and young adulthood. However, the persistent asthma trajectory group showed more signs of type 2 inflammation than the adolescent-onset trajectory group. This unbiased approach highlights the need of identifying patients with adolescent asthma to optimize care, because they suffer the same lack of asthma control as those with persistent asthma.

Abstract
Short sleep duration potentially affects the risk of developing asthma and asthmatic exacerbation. Our aim is to determine the associations between sleep duration with asthmatic phenotypes, fraction of exhaled NO (FeNO), blood eosinophils, and lung function among current asthmatics. A total of 558 individuals from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey during 2007-2012 were included in this study. Self-reported sleep duration was divided into three groups: short (⩽6 h), healthy (7-8 h) and long (⩾9 h). By using a multivariate generalized additive model with binomial or Poisson regression, the abovementioned associations were evaluated after adjustment for potential confounders. Our study population included 284 short sleepers, 240 healthy sleepers and 34 long sleepers. In multivariate binomial regression analysis, we found that short sleep duration was associated with increased risk of asthma with central obesity (adjusted OR = 0.58, 95%CI: 0.33-0.99, P = 0.047) compared with healthy sleep duration. Multivariate Poisson regression analyses revealed a significant increase in FeNO (adjusted OR = 1.19, 95%CI: 1.14-1.26, P < 0.01) and reduction of blood eosinophil percentage (adjusted OR = 0.86, 95%CI: 0.77-0.96, P < 0.01) in the healthy sleep duration group compared with the short sleep duration group. The individuals with healthy and long sleep duration harbored better lung function than those with short sleep duration, with the exception of FEV1/FVC. Our study suggested that short sleepers potentially increase the risk of asthma with central obesity and lung function impairment than healthy sleepers among current asthmatics. We also observed that short sleep duration is associated with a significant reduction of FeNO and increase of blood eosinophil percentage.

Abstract
RATIONALE Fixed airflow obstruction (FAO) can complicate asthma. Inflammation is a proposed underlying mechanism. OBJECTIVE Our aim in this cross-sectional investigation was to evaluate the blood leucocyte pattern and level of exhaled nitric oxide in asthmatics and non-asthmatics with or without FAO. METHODS A total of 11,579 individuals aged ≥20 years from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were included. They were grouped as: controls without asthma and FAO (n = 9,935), asthmatics without FAO (n = 674), asthmatics with FAO (n = 180) and non-asthmatics with FAO (n = 790). FAO was defined as post-bronchodilator FEV1/FVC < lower limit of normal. Exhaled nitric oxide ≥ 25ppb, blood eosinophil levels ≥300 cells/μL, and blood neutrophil levels ≥5100 cells/μL were defined as elevated. Stratified analyses for smoking and smoking history were performed. RESULTS Elevated blood eosinophil levels were more common in all groups compared to the controls, with the highest prevalence in the group with asthma and fixed airflow obstruction (p<0.01). In a multiple logistic regression model adjusted for potential confounders including smoking, the asthma groups had significantly higher odds ratios for elevated B-Eos levels compared to the control group (odds ratio 1.4, (confidence interval: 1.1-1.7) for the asthma group without fixed airflow obstruction and 2.5 (1.4-4.2) for the asthma group with fixed airflow obstruction). The group with fixed airflow obstruction without asthma had higher odds ratio for elevated blood neutrophil levels compared to the controls: 1.4 (1.1-1.8). Smoking and a history of smoking were associated to elevated B-Neu levels. CONCLUSION Fixed airflow obstruction in asthma was associated with elevated blood eosinophil levels, whereas fixed airflow obstruction without asthma was associated with elevated blood neutrophil levels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Elevated levels of inflammatory biomarkers are consistently associated with chronic conditions, for which periodontitis and sleep are established risk factors. We examined the relationships between periodontitis, hours of sleep and white blood cell (WBC) markers among a nationally representative sample of US adults. METHODS Cross-sectional study using existing demographic, examination, laboratory and questionnaire data on 11,813 participants (5,814 men and 5,999 women, mean age ± SE; range: 52.74 ± 0.24; 30 to 80 years) from the 2009 to 2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys. Unadjusted, sex- and age-adjusted, as well as fully adjusted linear and logistic regression models were conducted in addition to generalized structural equations models, while considering sampling design complexity. β, odds ratios with their 95% confidence intervals, indirect effects and mediation proportions were estimated. RESULTS The weighted mean WBC count was 7,130 cells/µL, with the WBC 5-part differential estimated in terms of percentages of lymphocytes (29.50%), monocytes (7.99%), neutrophils (59.03%), eosinophils (2.84%), and basophils (71.88%). Furthermore, 36.2% of participants reported <7 hours of sleep and 49.8% had periodontitis. In fully adjusted models controlling for sociodemographic, lifestyle, and health characteristics, neither WBC markers nor periodontitis were related to hours of sleep. By contrast, periodontitis was directly related to WBC count and %neutrophils and inversely related to %lymphocytes, especially among men. However, the relationship of periodontitis with %neutrophils and %lymphocytes may be modified by hours of sleep, as it was specific to individuals reporting ≥7 hours of sleep. CONCLUSION Periodontitis may be directly related to WBC count and %neutrophils and inversely related to %lymphocytes, especially among men and individuals reporting ≥7 hours of sleep, with implications for primary and secondary prevention.
