Abstract
Synthesis, magnetic and spectroscopy techniques are described for five copper(II) containing tetradentate Schiff bases are synthesized from methyl-2-(N-2'-aminoethane), (1-methyl-2'-aminoethane), (3-aminopropylamino)cyclopentenedithiocarboxylate. Molar conductance and infrared spectral evidences indicate that the complexes are four-coordinate in which the Schiff bases are coordinated as NNOS ligands. Room temperature μeff values for the complexes are 1.71-1.80B.M. corresponding to one unpaired electron respectively. The formation constants and free energies were measured spectrophotometrically, at constant ionic strength 0.1M (NaClO4), at 25˚C in DMF solvent. Also, the DFT calculations were carried out to determine the structural and the geometrical properties of the complexes. The DFT results are further supported by the experimental formation constants of these complexes.

Abstract
New series of three bidentate N, O donor type Schiff bases (L (1) )-(L (3) ) were prepared by using ethylene-1,2-diamine with 5-methyl furfural, 2-anisaldehyde, and 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde in an equimolar ratio. These ligands were further complexed with Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) metals to produce their new metal complexes having an octahedral geometry. These compounds were characterized on the basis of their physical, spectral, and analytical data. Elemental analysis and spectral data of the uncomplexed ligands and their metal(II) complexes were found to be in good agreement with their structures, indicating high purity of all the compounds. All ligands and their metal complexes were screened for antimicrobial activity. The results of antimicrobial activity indicated that metal complexes have significantly higher activity than corresponding ligands. This higher activity might be due to chelation process which reduces the polarity of metal ion by coordinating with ligands.

Abstract
Background: Over the last few decades, metal-based drugs, particularly cisplatin and its analogs have been used for the treatment of various cancers. Currently, scientists are developing other metal complexes as anticancer agents to eliminate the toxicity associated with platinum drugs. Results: Claisen-Schmidt condensation was used to synthesize the pyrazoline-based ligand; (5-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-1-carbothioamide), followed by the synthesis of its complexes with copper(II), nickel(II) and iron(III) metal ions. DNA binding and in silico studies indicated quite good binding with DNA; requirements for good anticancer drugs. Conclusion: DNA binding constants for ligand, copper, nickel and iron complexes were 1.42 × 104, 3.16 × 104, 5.82 × 105 and 6.72 × 105 M-1, respectively, indicating strong binding with DNA. All the reported compounds were slightly hemolytic towards rabbit red blood corpuscles and exhibited moderate activities against MCF-7 cancer cell lines.

Abstract
In the present study, a new hydrazone ligand (2-((2-phthalazin-1-yl)hydrazono)methyl)phenol) prepared by condensation of hydralazine (1-Hydralazinophthalazine) with salicylaldehyde (SAH). The synthesized SAH-hydrazone and its metal complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, (1)H NMR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, molar conductance, mass spectra, UV-vis and thermal analysis (TGA). The analytical data of the complexes show the formation of 1:1 [M:L] ratio, where M represents Ni(II), Co(II) and Cu(II) ions, while L represents the deprotonated hydrazone ligand. IR spectra show that SAH is coordinated to the metal ions in a tridentate manner through phthalazine-N, azomethine-N and phenolic-oxygen groups. The ligand and their metal chelates have been screened for their antimicrobial activities using the disc diffusion method against the selected bacteria and fungi. Proton-ligand association constants of (SAH) and the stepwise stability constants of its metal complexes are determined potentiometrically in 0.1 M NaNO(3) at different temperatures and the corresponding thermodynamic parameters were derived and discussed. The order of -ΔG° and -ΔH° were found to obey Mn(2+)<Co(2+)<Ni(2+)<Cu(2+), in accordance with the Irving-Williams order. The complexes were stabilized by enthalpy changes and the results suggest that the complexation is an enthalpy-driven process. The concentration distribution diagrams of the complexes are evaluated.

Abstract
Schiff base namely 2-aminomethylthiophenyl-4-bromosalicylaldehyde (ATS)(4-bromo-2-(thiophen-2-yl-imino)methylphenol) and its metal complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, molar conductance, mass spectra, ESR and thermal analysis (TGA). The analytical data of the complexes show the formation of 1:2 [M:L] ratio of the formula [ML2], where M represents Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cu(II) ions, while L represents the deprotonated Schiff base. IR spectra show that ATS is coordinated to the metal ions in a bidentate manner through azomethine-N and phenolic-oxygen groups. The ligand and their metal chelates have been screened for their antimicrobial activities using the disc diffusion method against the selected bacteria. A cytotoxicity of the compounds against colon (HCT116) and larynx (HEP2) cancer cells have been studied. Protonation constants of (ATS) ligand and stability constants of its Cu2+, Co2+, Mn2+, Zn2+ and Ni2+ complexes were determined by potentiometric titration method in 50% (v/v) DMSO-water solution at ionic strength of 0.1 M NaNO3.

Abstract
Some transition and non-transition metal complexes of the hexadentate N₄O₂ donor Schiff base ligand 1,8-N-bis(3-carboxy)disalicylidene-3,6-diazaoctane-1,8-diamine, abbreviated to H₄fsatrien, have been synthesized. All the 14 metal complexes have been fully characterized with the help of elemental analyses, molecular weights, molar conductance values, magnetic moments and spectroscopic (UV-Vis, IR, NMR, ESR) data. The analytical data helped to elucidate the structures of the metal complexes. The Schiff base, H₄fsatrien, is found to act as a dibasic hexadentate ligand using N₂N₂O₂ donor set of atoms (leaving the COOH group uncoordinated) leading to an octahedral geometry for the complexes around all the metal ions except VO²(+) and UO₂²(+). However, surprisingly the same ligand functions as a neutral hexadentate and neutral tetradentate one towards UO₂²(+) and VO²(+), respectively. In case of divalent metal complexes they have the general formula [M(H₂fsatrien)] (where M stands for Cu, Co, Hg and Zn); for trivalent metal complexes it is [M(H₂fsatrien)]X·nH₂O (where M stands for Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and X stands for CH₃COO, Cl, NO₃, ClO₄) and for the complexes of VO²(+) and UO₂²(+), [M(H₄fsatrien)]Y (where M=VO and Y=SO₄); M=UO₂ and Y=2 NO₃). The Schiff base ligand and most of the complexes have been screened in vitro to judge their antibacterial (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus) and antifungal (Aspergillus niger and Pencillium chrysogenum) activities.

Abstract
The electronic absorption spectra of 3-formylsalicylic acid (3-fsa) and 5-formylsalicylic acid (5-fsa) have been studied in different pure and mixed solvents. From the pure solvent study, the Einstein transition probabilities (A(if) and B(if)), dipole moment (D(if)), oscillator strength (F(if)), life time (tau), and the molar extinction coefficient (epsilon) of the absorption bands were determined. The hydrogen bonding and orientation energies between solute and solvent molecules have been investigated from the mixed solvent spectra. The equilibrium constants, pK(a1) and pK(a2), of the two acids have been determined spectrophotometrically and a new approximate method for pK(a1) determination is suggested. The complex formation between 3-fsa and 5-fsa and Fe(3+) in solution has been investigated spectrophotometrically and the stoichiometric ratios of the two systems have been determined applying the continuous variation, mole-ratio and the slope ratio methods which all showed a 1:1 type of complexes.

Abstract
A new bis(tridentate NO2) Schiff base ligand, H(4)L, was prepared by the reaction of the bifunctional carbonyl compound; 4,6-diacetylresorcinol (DAR) with ethanolamine. The ligand reacted with iron(III), cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), zinc(II), cadmium(II), cerium(III) and uranyl(VI) ions, in absence and in presence of LiOH, to yield mono- and bi-nuclear complexes with different coordinating sites. The ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, (1)H NMR, electronic, ESR and mass spectra, conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements as well as thermal analyses. In absence of LiOH, mononuclear complexes (2, 3 and 5-9) as well as binuclear complexes (1 and 4) were obtained. In mononuclear complexes, the ligand acted as a neutral, mono- and di-basic/bi- and tetra-dentate ligand while in binuclear complexes (1 and 4), the ligand acted as a bis(mono- or di-basic/tridentate) ligand. On the other hand, in presence of LiOH, only binuclear complexes (10-15) were obtained in which the ligand acted as a bis(dibasic tridentate) ligand. The metal complexes exhibited different geometrical arrangements such as octahedral, tetrahedral, square planar, square pyramidal and pentagonal bipyramidal arrangements.
