Abstract
In this manuscript we report the synthesis and characterization of two new polynuclear zinc(ii) complexes, [Zn2L1(μ-OAc)3]n·H2O (1) and [Zn2L2(μ-OAc)3]n (2) using two tridentate ligands, HL1 {4-chloro-2-(((2-(methylamino)ethyl)amino)methyl)phenol} and HL2 {2,4-dibromo-6-(((3-(methylamino)propyl)amino)methyl)phenol}. The structures were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Both complexes form 1D chains. The energy of H-bonding interaction in the solid state structures of the complexes has been estimated by DFT calculation and the crucial role of hydrogen bonding in shaping their structures has been highlighted.

Abstract
The macrocylic ligand, 1,8-dimethyl-1,3,6,8,10,13-hexaazacyclotetradecane (MHACD) was synthesized by the demetallation of its freshly synthesized Ni(II) complex (NiMHACD). Successful synthesis of NiMHACD and the free ligand (MHACD) was confirmed by various characterization techniques, including Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopic techniques. The anti-bacteria activities of MHACD were investigated against Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus species and the results showed that MHACD possesses a spectrum of activity against the two bacteria. The electrochemical cyclic voltammetry study on MHACD revealed that it is a redox active compound with promising catalytic properties in electrochemical applications. The inhibition potential of MHACD for mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl was investigated using potentiodynamic polarization method. The results showed that MHACD inhibits steel corrosion as a mixed-type inhibitor, and the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing concentration of MHACD. The adsorption of MHACD obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm; it is spontaneous and involves competitive physisorption and chemisorption mechanisms. Quantum chemical calculations revealed that the energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of MHACD is high enough to favor forward donation of charges to the metal during adsorption and corrosion inhibition. Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis revealed the presence of various orbitals in the MHACD that are capable of donating or accepting electrons under favorable conditions.

Abstract
A new symmetrical [N4O2] hexadentate Schiff base ligand, (E)-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)-2-(3-(2-((E)-pyridin-2-lmethyleneamino)phenoxy)naphthalen-2-yloxy)benzenamine, abbreviated to L, and its complexes of Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Co(II), Cd(II) and Mn(II) have been synthesized in the presence of metal ions. The complexes were structurally characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis, NMR and molar conductivity. The crystal structures of two complexes, [NiL(ONO2)2]·2H2O and [CoLCl2]CH3OH·0.5H2O, have been determined by a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. In these complexes, the ligand is coordinated in a neutral form via pyridine and azomethine nitrogen atoms. The metal ions complete their six coordination with two coordinated nitrate or chloride ions, forming a distorted octahedral geometry. The synthesized compounds have antibacterial activity against the three Gram-positive bacteria: Enterococcus faecalis, Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus epid and also against the three Gram-negative bacteria: Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter aerogenes and Salmonella typhi. The activity data show that the complexes are more potent antibacterials than the parent Schiff base.

Abstract
Novel NNNN-donor μ-bis(bidentate) tetraaza acyclic Schiff base ligands with different substituents (CF(3), N(CH(3))(2) or OH groups) were synthesized by the condensation reaction of triethylenetetramine with 4-substituted benzaldehydes. Triethylenetetramine tris(4-trifluoromethylbenzylidene) (TTFMB), triethylenetetramine tris(4-dimethylaminobenzylidene) (TTDMB) and triethylenetetramine tris(2,4-dihydroxybenzylidene) (TTDHB) were formed as N(4) donor ligands. The formation of a five-membered imidazolidine ring from the ethylenediamine backbone as a spacer-cumbridging unit gives rise to a new type of imidazolidine ligand. The structure of the TTFMB and TTDMB were determined by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The synthesized ligands have been characterized on the basis of the results of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and spectroscopic studies viz. FT-IR spectroscopy (FT-IR), mass spectroscopy (MS) and UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis).

Abstract
A series of tetraaza (N(4) donor) macrocyclic ligands (L(1)-L(4)) were derived from the condensation of o-phthalaldehyde (OPA) with some substituted aromatic amines/azide, and subsequently used to synthesize the metal complexes of Ru(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II). The structures of macrocyclic ligands and their metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, (1)H &(13)C NMR, mass and electronic spectroscopy, thermal, magnetic and conductance measurements. Both the ligands and their complexes were screened for their antibacterial activities against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria by MIC method. Besides, these macrocyclic complexes were investigated as catalysts in the oxidation of pharmaceutical drug didanosine. The oxidized products were further treated with sulphanilic acid to develop the colored products to determine by spectrophotometrically. The current oxidation method is an environmentally friendly, simple to set-up, requires short reaction time, produces high yields and does not require co-oxidant.

Abstract
The Schiff base ligand, bis(indoline-2-one)triethylenetetramine (L) obtained from condensation of triethylenetetramine and isatin was used to synthesize the complexes of type, [ML]Cl(2) [M=Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)]. L was characterized on the basis of the results of elemental analysis, FT-IR, (1)H and (13)C NMR, mass spectroscopic studies. The stoichiometry, bonding and stereochemistries of complexes were ascertained on the basis of results of elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility values, molar conductance and various spectroscopic studies. EPR, UV-vis and magnetic moments revealed an octahedral geometry for complexes. L and its Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes were screened for their antibacterial activity. Analgesic activity of Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes was also tested in rats by tail flick method. Both complexes were found to possess good antibacterial and moderate analgesic activity.

The solid complexes of the prepared Schiff base ligands with Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions were isolated and characterized by elemental and thermal analyses, IR, electronic and ESR spectra as well as conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The results showed that most complexes have octahedral geometry but few can attain the tetrahedral arrangement. The TG analyses suggest high stability for most complexes followed by thermal decomposition in different steps. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for decomposition steps in Cu(II) complexes thermograms have been calculated.
