Abstract
Improving interface connectivity of magnetic nanoparticles in carbon aerogels is crucial, yet challenging for assembling lightweight, elastic, high-performance, and multifunctional carbon architectures. Here, an in situ growth strategy to achieve high dispersion of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-anchored cellulose nanofibrils to enhance the interface connection quality is proposed. Followed by a facile freeze-casting and carbonization treatment, sustainable biomimetic porous carbon aerogels with highly dispersed and closely connected MOF-derived magnetic nano-capsules are fabricated. Thanks to the tight interface bonding of nano-capsule microstructure, these aerogels showcase remarkable mechanical robustness and flexibility, tunable electrical conductivity and magnetization intensity, and excellent electromagnetic wave absorption performance. Achieving a reflection loss of -70.8 dB and a broadened effective absorption bandwidth of 6.0 GHz at a filling fraction of merely 2.2 wt.%, leading to a specific reflection loss of -1450 dB mm-1, surpassing all carbon-based aerogel absorbers so far reported. Meanwhile, the aerogel manifests high magnetic sensing sensibility and excellent thermal insulation. This work provides an extendable in situ growth strategy for synthesizing MOF-modified cellulose nanofibril structures, thereby promoting the development of high-value-added multifunctional magnetic carbon aerogels for applications in electromagnetic compatibility and protection, thermal management, diversified sensing, Internet of Things devices, and aerospace.

Abstract
The invention and production of Ciprofloxacin (CIP) have a positive impact on medical treatment, but the overuse of CIP is also harmful to the environment. In this paper, we prepared a novel film material for detection of CIP by in situ synthesis of zinc-based metal-organic framework (Zn-BDC) on TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCNF). The nanoscale Zn-BDC were uniformly distributed on the TOCNF that was beneficial to realize the transparency and functionality of Zn-BDC@TOCNF whose transparency was up to 87 %. Zn-BDC@TOCNF showed no fluorescence itself while showed bright fluorescence upon the contact of CIP, which was proposed as the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) of CIP that defused and assembled in the Zn-BDC@TOCNF. There was a certain linear relationship between fluorescence intensity and concentration of CIP (R2 = 0.994, LOD = 0.083 μM). In the detection process, CIP could still fluoresce in Zn-BDC@TOCNF even if it was interfered by other ions and small biological molecules, and the weak acid environment was conducive to AIE of CIP. Generally, it was of great significance to establish a rapid and effective monitoring mechanism for CIP in water for environmental protection and ecological balance.

Abstract
Aerogels with low density, high mechanical strength, and excellent elasticity have a wide potential for applications in wastewater treatment, thermal management, and sensors. However, the fabrication of such aerogels from biomass materials required complex preparation processes. Herein, a sustainable and facile strategy was reported to construct lignin/cellulose aerogels (LCMA) with three-dimensional interconnected structures by introducing homologous lignin with a polyphenyl propane structure as a structural enhancer through a top-down directional freezing approach, prompting a 2036% enhancement in compressive modulus and an 8-12-fold increase in oil absorption capacity. In addition, the hydrophobic aerogels with superelasticity were achieved by combining the aligned polygon-like structure and flexible silane chains, which exhibited remarkable compressional fatigue resistance and superhydrophobicity (WCA = 168°). Attributed to its unique pore design and surface morphology control, the prepared aerogel exhibited excellent performance in immiscible oil-water separation and water-in-oil emulsion separation. Due to the ultra-low density (8.3 mg·cm-3) as well as high porosity (98.87%), the obtained aerogel showed a low thermal conductivity (0.02565 ± 0.0024 W·m-1·K-1), demonstrating a potential in insulation applications. The synthetic strategy and sustainability concept presented in this work could provide guidance for the preparation of advanced biomass-based aerogels with unique properties for a wide range of applications.

Abstract
Nowadays, a big challenge is developing a sustainable and effective method for removing contaminants like dyes from aqueous solutions. In this regard, Zr-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66-NH2) and sawdust as the ideal adsorbents were used. Due to their low separation in adsorption processes, embedding into alginate and obtaining composite beads are suggested as a suitable strategy. The achieved Ca-alginate/citric acid (CA)-sawdust/UiO-66-NH2 hydrogel beads were used to compare cationic and anionic dyes removal. This sorbent indicated an excellent selectivity for removing methylene blue versus methyl orange in a binary system. pH = 6, adsorbent amount = 80 mg, methylene blue concentration = 10 mg/L, and contact time = 420 min were achieved as optimal parameters on methylene blue adsorption with an adsorption capacity of about 26 mg/g. The removal process of methylene blue followed linear Freundlich isotherm and nonlinear pseudo-2nd-order kinetic models. The regeneration test demonstrated methylene blue removal efficiency higher than about 89 % after 9 cycles. According to the outcomes, methylene blue could be attached to the adsorbent surface through the electrostatic, hydrogen bonding, and π-π interactions of the aromatic rings. These results confirm the potential of Ca-alginate/CA-sawdust/UiO-66-NH2 hydrogel beads as a selective bio-sorbent for cationic dye removal.

Abstract
Gels are useful materials for drug delivery, wound dressings, tissue engineering, and 3D printing. These various applications require gels with different mechanical properties that can be easily tuned, also preferably excluding the use of chemical additives, which can be toxic or harmful to the body or environment. Here, we report a novel strategy to synthesize cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) gels with tunable mechanical properties. Sequential freeze-thaw cycling and hydrothermal treatments were applied to CNC suspensions in different orders to give a series of pristine CNC hydrogels. Freeze-drying of the hydrogels also afforded a series of lightweight CNC aerogels. The mechanical properties of the hydrogels and aerogels were studied by rheological measurements and compression strength tests, respectively. Specifically, the complex modulus of CNC hydrogels ranged from 160 to 32,000 Pa among eight different hydrogels, while Young's modulus of CNC aerogels was tuned from 0.114 to 3.98 MPa across five different aerogels. The microstructures of aerogels were also investigated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microtomography, which revealed remarkable differences between the materials. Solvent sorption-desorption tests showed that the reinforced networks have excellent stability over the basic CNC aerogels in ethanol, demonstrating a material enhancement from the preparation strategies we developed. Thermal conductivity and thermal stability for these materials were also investigated, and it was found that the lowest thermal conductivity was 0.030 W/m K, and all of the aerogels are generally stable below 280 °C. These characteristics also expand the potential applications of this family of CNC gels to lightweight supporting materials and thermal insulators.
