Abstract
BACKGROUND Life-threatening basilar artery dissection (BAD) can be seen following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), but it is not clear whether SAH causes dissection, or not. This study aims to investigate the relationship between degenerative changes in the superior cervical ganglia and the dissection rate of the basilar artery. METHOD In this study, after 3 weeks of experimental SAH, animals were decapitated. Eighteen rabbits were divided into three groups according to their vasospasm indices. The basilar arteries were examined by anatomical and histopathologic methods. RESULTS Basilar dissection with high vasospasm index (VSI) value (VSI > 3) was detected in six animals (group I); severe basilar edema and moderate VSI value (>2.4) were detected in seven rabbits (group II); and slight VSI value (<1.5) was detected in five subjects (group III). The degenerated neuron densities of the superior cervical ganglia were 12 ± 4 n/mm3 in group I, 41 ± 8 n/mm3 in group II, and 276 ± 78 n/mm3 in group III. The dissected surface values/lumen values were calculated as (42 ± 1)/(64 ± 11) in G-I, (21 ± 6)/(89 ± 17) in group II, and (3 ± 1)/(102 ± 24) in group III. If we look at these ratios as a percentage, it was 62% in group I, 23% in group II, and 5% in group III. CONCLUSION Inverse relationship between the degenerated neuron densities of the superior cervical ganglia and the dissected surface values of the basilar artery was observed. Common knowledge is that BAD may lead to SAH; however, this study indicates that SAH is the cause of BAD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The vagal, stellate, and cardiac ganglia cells changes following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) may occur. This study aimed to investigate if there is any relation between vagal network/stellate ganglion and intrinsic cardiac ganglia insult following SAH. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-six rabbits were used in this study. Animals were randomly divided as control (GI, n = 5); SHAM 0.75 cc of saline-injected (n = 5) and study with autologous 1.5 cc blood injection into their cisterna magna(GIII, n = 15). All animals were followed for three weeks and then decapitated. Their motor vagal nucleus, nodose, stellate, and intracardiac ganglion cells were estimated by stereological methods and compared statistically. RESULTS Numerical documents of heart-respiratory rates, vagal nerve- ICG, and stellate neuron densities as follows: 276 ± 32/min-22 ± 3/min-10.643 ± 1.129/mm3-4 ± 1/mm3-12 ± 3/mm3 and 2 ± 1/cm3 in the control group; 221 ± 22/min-16 ± 4/min-8.699 ± 976/mm3-24 ± 9/mm3-103 ± 32/mm3 and 11 ± 3/cm3 in the SHAM group; and 191 ± 23/min-17 ± 4/min-9.719 ± 932/mm3-124 ± 31/mm3-1.542 ± 162/mm3 and 32 ± 9/cm3 in the SAH (study) group. The animals with burned neuro-cardiac web had more neurons of stellate ganglia and a less normal neuron density of nodose ganglia (p < 0.005). CONCLUSION Sypathico-parasympathetic imbalance induced vagal nerve-ICG disruption following SAH could be named as Burned Neurocardiac Web syndrome in contrast to broken heart because ICG/parasympathetic network degeneration could not be detected in classic broken heart syndrome. It was noted that cardiac ganglion degeneration is more prominent in animals' severe degenerated neuron density of nodose ganglia. We concluded that the cardiac ganglia network knitted with vagal-sympathetic-somatosensitive fibers has an important in heart function following SAH. The neurodegeneration of the cardiac may occur in SAH, and cause sudden death.Graphical abstract[Formula: see text].

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prediction of mortality in a patient with head trauma is essential. In this study, the effect of mean platelet volume (MPV) on the mortality rate of patients with severe head trauma was studied. MATERIAL AND METHODS The relationship between mortality and mean platelet volumes of patient with cranial trauma was retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS 43 patients with head trauma were admitted to the intensive care unit during the study period. While 17 patients died (Group I), 26 patients survived (Group II). Cox regression analysis showed that late MPV (at exitus or discharged date), WBC at admission, and age increase the mortality rate 1,770, 1,202, 1,052 times, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The present study shows that MPV may be a useful predictor of mortality in patients with severe head trauma.

Abstract
Study Design: Retrospective study. Objection: There can be a relationship between degenerative diseases in the spine and hip. Summary of Background Data: Degenerative diseases in the spine and hip may occur concomitantly. This study was done to investigate the cross-sectional area of psoas muscle size and incidence of lumbar disc herniation after unilateral hip arthroplasty. Methods: The data files of patients who were operated on for unilateral hip arthroplasty between January 2014- and 15 May 2021 at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan University Hospital were retrospectively analysed for the relationship between the psoas muscle volume and the incidence of lumbar disc herniation. The patients were divided according to their operated sides. Results: The data files of 48 patients were retrospectively analysed. The patients were divided into two groups according to the operated side of their hip joints. Gender and age differences were not significant, and the mean ages were 68,68 years old in the right hip arthroplasty group, and 69,39 in the left hip arthroplasty group. Conclusions: A complex interaction between the development of lumbar disc herniations and increased contralateral cross-sectional area of the psoas muscle at the L4-5 level was observed in patients operated for unilateral hip arthroplasty. This interaction can be a compensatory mechanism to counteract the spinal imbalance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increased intraocular pressure (IOP) likely secondary to an activated oculo-trigeminal reflex network is an important issue following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The relationship between the IOP and trigeminal ganglion (TGG) following experimental SAH was investigated in this study. METHODS Twenty-three rabbits were used in this study. Five rabbits (n = 5) were used as the control group, another 5 as the sham group (n = 5), and the remaining 13 (n = 13) as the study group. The study group was further divided into two groups of animals with mild (n = 6) and severe (n = 7) TGG degeneration. The IOP values were recorded. After 2 weeks, the animals were decapitated. The mean degenerated neuron density of TGGs was estimated by stereological methods and analyzed statistically. RESULTS The average IOP values were 11.85, 14.12, and 21.45 mm Hg in the control (n = 5), sham (n = 5), and study (n = 13) groups, respectively. The mean degenerated neuron density was 34, 237, and 3,165 mm3 in the control, sham, and study groups, respectively. CONCLUSION According to the findings of this study, the experimental SAH leads to changes in IOP by affecting the TGG. By predicting and preventing IOP elevation in the setting of SAH, our findings will shed light on secondary sequelae such as glaucoma and irreversible blindness.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although the effect of oculomotor and cervical sympathetic networks on pupil diameter is well known; the effect of the trigeminal nerve on pupil diameter has not been investigated yet. This subject was investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS Five of 23 rabbits were used as a control group (GI; n = 5); 0.5 ccs saline solution into cisterna magna injected animals used as SHAM (GII; n = 5); autologous blood injected to produce SAH used as the study group (GIII; n = 13) and followed up three weeks. Light-stimulated pupil diameters were measured with an ocular tomography device before, middle, and at the end of the experiment. Considering the sclera area/pupil area ratio index (PRI) as the pupillary reaction area, we used this equation for the pupil's rush to light. Degenerated neuron densities of trigeminal ganglia and pupil diameters compared with the Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS The PRI, degenerated neuron density of trigeminal ganglia (n/mm3) were: (2.034 ± 0.301)/(13 ± 3) in GI; (1.678 ± 0.211)/(46 ± 9) in GII; and (0.941 ± 0.136)/(112 ± 21) in GIII. P-values between groups as: p < 0.005 in GI/GII; p < 0.0001 in GII/GIII and p < 0.00001 in GI/GIII. CONCLUSION Light stimulates the cornea which is innervated by the trigeminal nerves. This experimental study indicates that the pupil remains mydriatic as the cornea is damaged by trigeminal ischemia following SAH and blocks the light flow.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Olfaction and its relation to human health is an area of growing interest. Although olfaction disorders have been considered a part of Kallmann syndrome, the role of olfactory dysfunction on spermatogenesis has not been studied yet. We studied if olfactory bulbectomy (OBX) causes dysfunction in spermatogenesis as a result of Onuf's nucleus damage. METHODS Twenty-eight male rats were divided into three groups: six as the control (G-1; n = 6), six as the only frontal burr hole applied animals SHAM (G-2; n = 6), and 16 as the study group (G-3; n = 16) in which OBX was performed. The animals were followed for 2 months. After the decapitation of the animals, olfactory bulb (OB) volumes (mm3), the neuron density of the Onuf's nucleus (n/mm3), and sperm density (n/mm3) were estimated stereologically and analyzed. RESULTS OB volumes (mm3), degenerated neuron density of Onuf's nucleus (n/mm3), and sperm numbers of control, SHAM, and study groups were estimated as: 4 ± 0.5; 6 ± 2 and 103.245 ± 10.841 in G-1; 3.5 ± 0.7; 14 ± 4 and 96.891 ± 9.569 in G-2; and 1.3 ± 0.3; 91 ± 17 and 73.561 ± 6.324 in G-3. The statistical results of degenerated neuron density of Onuf's nucleus and sperm numbers between groups are p < 0.005 for G-1/G-2; p < 0.0005 for G-2/G-3; and p < 0.00001 for G-1/G-3. DISCUSSION This study first time indicates that Onuf's nucleus degeneration secondary to OBX seems to be responsible for reduced sperm numbers.

Abstract
In patients with COVID-19, neurodegeneration may develop before clinical symptoms appear. Diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI is an important technique for analyzing microstructural changes such as gliosis. In this study, a quantitative evaluation of microstructural changes in the brain with apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in patients presenting with a headache after the COVID-19 disease was analyzed and compared. DW MR images of patients of 20 COVID-19 patients (13 females, 7 males) who required imaging due to headache; 20 controls (16 females, 4 males) were retrospectively reevaluated. ADC measurements were taken from 16 regions of the brain, including right and left symmetrical in patients with COVID-19 infections and control groups. All regions of interest (ROIs) were taken from the hypothalamus, parahippocampus, thalamus, corpus striatum, cingulate gyrus, occipital gyrus, dentate nucleus, and medulla oblongata posterior. ADC values in the dentate nucleus right (784.6 ± 75.7 vs. 717.25 ± 50.75), dentate nucleus left (768.05 ± 69.76 vs. 711.40 ± 52.99), right thalamus (731.15 ± 38.14 vs. 701.60 ± 43.65), left thalamus (744.05 ± 39.00 vs. 702.85 ± 28.88), right parahippocampus (789.10 ± 56.35 vs. 754.75 ± 33.78), right corpus striatum (710.00 ± 39.81 vs. 681.55 ± 39.84) were significantly higher than those in the control group. No significant changes were observed in other areas. A significant increase in ADC values at many levels in the brain in patients with COVID-19 disease and headache was observed. Thus, this study indicates that cerebral involvement in COVID-19 disease may be related to microstructural changes that are not reflected in conventional MRI images.

New histopathological evidence for the relationship between hydromyelia and hydrocephalus following subarachnoid hemorrhage: An experimental study. Abstract
Objectives Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a serious pathology with a high death and morbidity rate. There can be a relationship between hydromyelia and hydrocephalus following SAH; however, this subject has not been well investigated. Materials and Methods Twenty-four rabbits (3 ± 0.4 years old; 4.4 ± 0.5 kg) were used in this study. Five of them were used as the control, and five of them as the SHAM group. The remaining animals (n = 14) had been used as the study group. The central canal volume values at the C1-C2 levels, ependymal cells, numbers of central canal surfaces, and Evans index values of the lateral ventricles were assessed and compared. Results Choroid plexus edema and increased water vesicles were observed in animals with central canal dilatation. The Evans index of the brain ventricles was 0.33 ± 0.05, the mean volume of the central canal was 1.431 ± 0.043 mm3, and ependymal cells density was 5.420 ± 879/mm2 in the control group animals (n = 5); 0.35 ± 0.17, 1.190 ± 0.114 mm3, and 4.135 ± 612/mm2 in the SHAM group animals (n = 5); and 0.44 ± 0.68, 1.814 ± 0.139 mm3, and 2.512 ± 11/mm2 in the study group (n = 14). The relationship between the Evans index values, the central canal volumes, and degenerated ependymal cell densities was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusions This study showed that hydromyelia occurs following SAH-induced experimental hydrocephalus. Desquamation of ependymal cells and increased cerebrospinal fluid secretion may be responsible factors in the development of hydromyelia.

Abstract
Background The morphological features of the cervical spine are an essential issue. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the structural and radiological changes in the cervical spine. Materials and Methods A total of 250 patients with neck pain but no apparent cervical pathology were selected from a database of 5672 consecutive patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRIs were directly examined for cervical disc degeneration. These include Pfirrmann grade (Pg/C), cervical lordosis angle (A/CL), Atlantodental distance (ADD), the thickness of transverse ligament (T/TL), and position of cerebellar tonsils (P/CT). The measurements were taken at the positions of T1- and T2-weighted sagittal and axial MRIs. To evaluate the results, patients were divided into seven age groups (10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70, and over). Results In terms of ADD (mm), T/TL (mm), and P/CT (mm), there was no significant difference among age groups (P > 0.05). However, in terms of A/CL (degree) values, a statistically significant difference was observed among age groups (P < 0.05). Conclusions Intervertebral disc degeneration was more severe in males than in females as age increased. For both genders, cervical lordosis, decreased significantly as age increased. T/TL, ADD, and P/CT did not significantly differ with age. The present study indicates that structural and radiological changes are possible reasons for cervical pain at advanced ages.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cesarean sections (CS) under spinal anesthesia may lead to newly developed low back pain (LBP) after anesthesia. The cause of this pain is still unknown. This subject was investigated. METHODS The persistent LBP after the section was retrospectively analyzed in patients who were operated on under spinal or general anesthesia between January 1, 2018, and January 1, 2020. RESULT General anesthesia was used in 52 women, but 251 women were operated on under spinal anesthesia. Newly developed persistent LBP was detected in 57 (18,8%) of a total of 303 patients. Of those patients with LBP, general anesthesia was used in 14 of 52 (26,9%) patients, but 43 of 251 (17.1%) patients received spinal anesthesia. Baby weight after CS was the only variable associated with persistent LBP after 3 and 6 months (P < 0.05) in multiple logistic regression analysis. Patient age and anesthesia type were not associated with persistent LBP (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION This study shows anesthesia type as spinal or general was not associated with increased persistent LBP. Performing more spinal than general anesthesia in the cesarean section may be false data about the increased rate of LBP after CS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Posterior cerebral blood flow is regulated by the basilar arteries (BA). Its vasospasm of basilar arteries (BA) can occur following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Superior cervical sympathetic ganglia (SCG) fibers have a vasoconstrictor effect on the BA. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the degenerated neuron density of the SCG and the severity of BA vasospasm after experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage. METHODS Twenty-four rabbits were used. Five of them were used as the control group, and five of them were used as the SHAM group. Experimental subarachnoid hemorrhages were performed in the remaining fourteen animals (study group) by injecting homologous blood into cisterna magna. After three weeks of injection, neuron densities of SCG and the severity of BA vasospasm index values (VSI) were examined histopathologically and compared statistically. RESULTS The mean VSI was 0.669±0.1129 in the control group, 0.981±0.159 in the SHAM group, and 1.512±0.298 in the study group. The mean degenerated neuronal density of SCG was 436±79/mm3 in severe vasospasm (n=3), 841±101/mm3 in moderate vasospasm (n=4), and 1.921±849/mm3 in the less vasospasm detected animals (n=6). CONCLUSION This study shows an inverse relationship between the degenerated neuronal density in the SCG and VSI values. This finding indicates a diminished sympathetic input from the superior cervical ganglion (SCG) resulting in a beneficial (the Felix-culpa) effect by dilating the lumen diameter of the basilar artery (BA), so superior sympathetic cervical ganglion degeneration following SAH protects the basilar artery spasm.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Ponticulus posticus is an anomaly of the atlas. Odontoid fracture type 2 fracture occurs by hyperflexion, hyperextension, lateral flexion, and a combination of these movements. The presence of Ponticulus Posticus anomaly may affect the occurrence of odontoid fractures of the C2 vertebra. In this study, the relationship between the presence of PP anomaly and occurring of the odontoid type 2 fracture was investigated. PATIENTS AND METHODS Cervical CTs of a total of 14 patients with odontoid type 2 fracture were retrospectively evaluated for PP, and compared with 13 patients with cervical trauma without odontoid type 2 fracture. RESULTS Ponticulus posticus anomaly was noted in 7 of 14 patients with odontoid type 2 fractures on the upper cervical CT; therefore, the prevalence was 50.%, but only 3 cases (23.07%) were seen in 13 patients of the control group. In binominal regression analysis showed that the presence of PP anomaly increases 12,075 times to occur odontoid type 2 fracture after cervical trauma. CONCLUSION Ponticulus posticus is often not recognized, but this study shows that ponticulus posticus is a risk factor for odontoid type 2 fracture after cervical trauma.

Abstract
Objective: Spastic disorders are considered as important cerebral complications of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). However, there has been no research concerning the pathophysiological mechanism of its link with the spinal cord. The present study aimed to assess the relationship between the development of spasticity and neuronal degeneration after SAH and increase in spinal cord pressure after central canal hemorrhage (CCH).Participants: Twenty-three rabbits were included.Outcome measures: Of all rabbits, 5, 5, and 13 were allocated in the control, SHAM and study groups, respectively. Moreover, 1 cc of saline and 1 cc of autologous arterial blood were injected into the cisterna magna of the SHAM and study groups, respectively. The Muscle spasticity tension values (MSTVs) were determined according to the modified Ashworth scale. Degenerated neuron densities (DND) in the gray matter (GM) of each animal's spinal cord were stereologically calculated.Results: The average MSTV of each group was as follows: control group (n = 5) 2; SHAM group (n = 5) 3-5; and study group (n = 13) 8-10. The DND values of the spinal cord of each group were as follows: control group, 2 ± 1/mm3; SHAM group, 12 ± 3/mm3; and study group, 34 ± 9/mm3. Results showed an important linear relationship between the MSTVs and the DND of the spinal cord (P < 0.001).Conclusion: Spasticity may be attributed to other causes such as ischemic neurodegenerative process that develops after spinal SAH and the de-synchronization of the flexor-extensor muscles due to the spontaneous discharge of interneuronal structures, which are crossed within the spinal cord owing to the build-up of pressure after CCH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The human brain can respond to and participate in music. Learning to play a musical instrument requires complex multimodal skills involving the simultaneous perception of several sensory modalities. In case of brain damage, the musician and nonmusician brains may have different capacities for reorganization and neural remapping. We aimed to investigate the effect of music on patients who had a brain tumor and/or underwent a neurosurgical procedure, comparing the recovery of those who had a musical background with those who did not. METHODS A literature review was performed to search for any evidence on this issue. We divided the cases into two groups: as group I consisted of the nonmusician patients, while group II consisted of musicians with a neurosurgical disease. Studies were rated from 0 (no effect) to 4 (high effect). RESULTS We found seven published studies as well as case reports. It was observed that the outcomes and quality of life of the musician group were better than those of the control groups or nonmusician patients in all of the investigated studies, but no statistical difference between musicians and nonmusicians was found. CONCLUSION Music-related structural changes in the brain may occur in musicians. However with limited number of cases, it cannot be assorted the improved recovery in musicians after neurosurgical disease or procedures by his or her enhanced plasticity. There are limited number of cases, for that reason, it cannot be assorted the improved recovery in musicians after neurosurgical disease or procedures by his or her enhanced plasticity. Professional musicians, who are making a living through their musical abilities, may also have a strong motivation to undergo stressful and enduring rehabilitation. An early restart of the musical activity in musicians with neurosurgical disease may lead to better outcomes, better quality of life, and better psychological parameters, in a shorter time than in nonmusicians.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We previously postulated that orgasmic sensation may occur through recently discovered genital taste bud-like structures. The interaction between the pudendal nerve and Onuf's nucleus may be important for developing orgasmic information. The study aims to investigate whether ischemic damage to Onuf's nucleus-pudendal network following spinal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) causes taste bud degeneration or not. METHODS The study was conducted on 22 fertile male rabbits who were divided into three groups: control (GI; n=5), SHAM (GII; n=5) and study (GIII; n=12). Isotonic solution, .7cm3, for the SHAM, and .7cm3 homologous blood was injected into spinal subarachnoid spaces at S2 level of the study group. Two weeks later, Onuf's nucleus, pudendal ganglia and the taste bud-like structures of the penile urethra were examined histopathologically. Degenerated neuron densities of Onuf's nucleus, pudendal ganglia and atrophic taste bud-like structures were estimated per mm3 and the results analyzed statistically. RESULTS The mean degenerated neuron densities of taste bud-like structures, Onuf's nucleus and pudendal ganglia were estimated as 2±1/mm3, 5±1/mm3, 6±2/mm3 in GI; 12±4/mm3, 35±9/mm3, 188±31/mm3, in GII and 41±8/mm3, 215±37/mm3, 1321±78/mm3, in GIII. Spinal SAH induced neurodegeneration in Onuf's nucleus, pudendal ganglia and taste bud atrophy was significantly different between GI/GII (p<.005); GII/GIII (p<.0005) and GI/GIII (p<.0001). CONCLUSION Ischemic neuronal degenerations of Onuf's nucleus and pudendal ganglia following spinal SAH lead to genital taste bud-like structure atrophy. This mechanism may be responsible for sexual anhedonia and sterility in cases with spinal cord injury, which has not been documented so far. More studies are needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Olfactory bulbectomy (OBX) in experimental studies induces neurochemical, neurodegenerative changes in various parts of the body. But no information is available about how OBX affects the spinal cord in rats. Our study aims to investigate this question. METHODS Twenty-eight male rats were used. The rats were divided into three groups: six as the control, six as the SHAM, and 16 as the study group in which OBX was performed. The animals were followed for 10 weeks. After decapitation of the animals, olfactory bulb (OB) volumes, the olfactory glomerulus (OG), and the neuron density of the ON (Onuf nucleus) per cubic centimeter at the L4-S4 level were examined histopathologically and analyzed stereologically. RESULTS The mean OB volume, remaining normal OG density, and degenerated neuron density (DND) of the ON was measured as 4.32 ± 0.21/mm3 , 1842 ± 114/mm3 , and 4 ± 1 /mm3 in the control (group I); 3.3 ± 0.14/mm3 , 1321 ± 114/mm3 , and 43 ± 8/mm3 in the SHAM (group II); and 1.672 ± 0.12/mm3 , 852 ± 93/mm3 , and 154 ± 11/mm3 in the study group (group III). There was a statistically significant difference between the SHAM and the study group (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS In this study, histopathological bridging between ON-related lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and OBX was shown the first time. According to the findings, LUTS may be reversed by the protection of the affected spinal cord through the correction of olfaction impairment in neurodegenerative disease.

Abstract
Background: Anosmia has been considered as the first diagnostic criteria of Parkinson disease (PD), we investigated the effect of the olfactory bulbectomy (OBX) on histopathological features of the substantia nigra in an animal model.Methods: Twenty-seven male rats were used in this study. Animals were divided into three groups as five (control), six SHAM and sixteen study (OBL) groups. Nothing was done in the control group, the only burr hole was done in the SHAM group, OBL was not applied, and bilateral OBL was performed in the study group, and followed ten weeks, then animals were decapitated. Olfactory bulb volumes were measured by macro anatomically. The olfactory bulbs and substantia nigra sections were analyzed by a stereological method to evaluate olfactory glomerulus and neuron density of substantia nigra per cubic centimeter and compared with statistically.Results: The mean olfactory bulb volume, degenerated olfactory glomerulus density and degenerated neuron density of substantia nigra were measured as:(4.14 ± 0.20) mm3, (1 ± 1)/mm3 and (7 ± 2)/mm3 in control (Group I); (3.6 ± 0.16)/mm3, (4 ± 1)/mm3 and(32 ± 7)/mm3 in SHAM (Group II) and (2.2 ± 0.9)/mm3, (112 ± 18)/mm3 and (1543 ± 115)/mm3in study group (Group III). Diminished olfactory bulb volume was observed in Group III animals.Conclusions: We concluded that OBL may lead to the degeneration of substantia nigra.

Abstract
Purpose/Aim of the study: Auerbach/Meissner network of lower abdominopelvic organs managed by parasympathetic nerve fibres of lumbosacral roots arising from Onuf's nucleus located in conus medullaris. Aim of this study is to evaluate if there is any relationship between Onuf's nucleus ischemia and Auerbach/Meissner network degeneration following spinal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH). Materials and Methods: Study was conducted on 24 male rabbits included control (Group I, n = 5), serum saline-SHAM (Group II, n = 5), and spinal SAH (Group III, n = 14) groups. Spinal SAH performed by injecting homologous blood into subarachnoid space at Th12-L4 level and followed three weeks. Live and degenerated neuron densities of Onuf's nucleus, Auerbach and Meissner ganglia (n/mm3) were determined by Stereological methods. Results: The mean degenerated neuron density of Onuf's nucleus was significantly higher in Group III than in Groups I-II (152 ± 26, 2 ± 1 and 5 ± 2/mm3 respectively, p < 0.005). The degenerated neuron density of Auerbach's ganglia was significantly higher in Group III than in Groups I-II (365 ± 112, 3 ± 1 and 9 ± 3/mm3 respectively, p < 0.005). The degenerated neuron density of Meissner's ganglia was significantly higher in Group III than in Groups I-II (413 ± 132, 2 ± 1 and 11 ± 4/mm3 respectively, p < 0.005). Conclusions: Onuf's nucleus pathologies should be considered as Auerbach/Meissner ganglia degeneration and also related Hirschsprung-like diseases in the future.

Abstract
AIM Muscle abnormalities after spinal cord ischemia caused by subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) have not been explored for degenerative variations in the soma of second motor neurons of the spinal cord gray matter. This study aimed to investigate histopathological alterations in the gray matter and the role of peripheral nerves in SAH. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-two rabbits were allocated in the control (Group I, n = 5), SHAM (Group II, n = 5), and research (Group III, n = 12) groups. Muscle weakness of the upper extremities innervated by radial nerves was evaluated at the initial day, and outcomes were recorded as control data. Re-measurements were done after injecting 0.5 ml of SF for SHAM and autolog artery blood inside craniocervical subarachnoid space for the study group. After 3 weeks, radial nerve roots, their ganglia, and segments of the spinal cord around C5-6 root entry zones were extracted bilaterally. Degenerated second motor neuron somas and the degenerated radial nerve motor axons at the intervertebral foramen were assessed. RESULTS The average degenerated soma intensity/mm3 at the C5-6 levels in the spinal cord was 2 ± 1/mm3, 13 ± 4/mm3, and 56 ± 10/mm3 for Groups I, II, and Group III. The average degenerated axon intensity of radial nerves was 3 ± 1/mm2, 34 ± 9/mm2, and 234 ± 78/mm2 for Groups I, II, and III. CONCLUSION Gray matter ischemia in the spinal cord may lead to axonal deterioration on equal levels at the peripheral nerves with advanced SAH. Detected or undetected spinal SAH should be considered an important factor on the etiology of second motor neuron diseases.
