Abstract
Depression and anxiety are the most common psychiatric comorbidities in epilepsy and are known to increase healthcare utilization, the risk of refractory epilepsy, and anti-seizure medication intolerability. Despite this, depression and anxiety continue to be underrecognized and undertreated in people with epilepsy (PWE). Several barriers to the identification of depression and anxiety in PWE exist, including reliance on unstructured interviews rather than standardized, validated instruments. Moreover, there is a dearth of behavioral health providers to manage these comorbidities once identified. The use of validated screening instruments in epilepsy clinics can assist with both the identification of psychiatric symptoms and monitoring of treatment response by the epilepsy clinician for PWE with comorbid depression and/or anxiety. While screening instruments can identify psychiatric symptoms occurring within a specified time, they are not definitively diagnostic. Screeners can be time efficient tools to identify patients requiring further evaluation for diagnostic confirmation. This article reviews recent literature on the utility of depression and anxiety screening instruments in epilepsy care, including commonly used screening instruments, and provides solutions for potential barriers to clinical implementation. Validated depression and anxiety screening instruments can increase identification of depression and anxiety and guide epilepsy clinician management of these comorbidities which has the potential to positively impact patient care.

Abstract
A 51-year-old woman showed structural epilepsy following an atypical, nontraumatic intracranial hemorrhage in the right frontal area. Despite successful seizure control with lamotrigine, she developed severe morning anxiety and panic attacks, leading to agoraphobia, social withdrawal, and psychogenic nonepileptic seizures. Neuropsychiatric and psychological assessments confirmed an anxiety disorder with no significant symptoms of depression. The patient received various psychopharmacological treatments with limited success. This case report illustrates that managing panic disorder in patients with structural epilepsy requires a comprehensive treatment approach that includes pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Differential diagnosis and accurate treatment are crucial because of the symptom overlap between panic attacks and peri-ictal fear. Screenings instruments such as the Panic and Agoraphobia Scale (PAS) can aid in assessing anxiety-related symptoms. First-line pharmacotherapy with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, especially sertraline, or venlafaxine can effectively reduce panic attacks and can be recommended in patients with epilepsy. Psychotherapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy, is the treatment of choice. Referral to a psychiatrist is indicated when symptoms are severe or refractory to treatment.

Abstract
Background Osteoporosis, a prevalent orthopedic issue, significantly influences patients' quality of life and results in considerable financial burden. The objective of this study was to develop and validate a clinical prediction model for osteoporosis risk, utilizing computer algorithms and demographic data. Method In this research, a total of 4,552 residents from Shanghai were retrospectively included. LASSO regression analysis was executed on the sample's basic characteristics, and logistic regression was employed for analyzing clinical characteristics and building a predictive model. The model's diagnostic capacity for predicting osteoporosis risk was assessed using R software and computer algorithms. Results The predictive nomogram model for bone loss risk, derived from the LASSO analysis, comprised factors including BMI, TC, TG, HDL, Gender, Age, Education, Income, Sleep, Alcohol Consumption, and Diabetes. The nomogram prediction model demonstrated impressive discriminative capability, with a C-index of 0.908 (training set), 0.908 (validation set), and 0.910 (entire cohort). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of the model was 0.909 (training set), 0.903 (validation set), and applicable to the entire cohort. The decision curve analysis further corroborated that the model could efficiently predict the risk of bone loss in patients. Conclusion The nomogram, based on essential demographic and health factors (Body Mass Index, Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides, High-Density Lipoprotein, Gender, Age, Education, Income, Sleep, Alcohol Consumption, and Diabetes), offered accurate predictions for the risk of bone loss within the studied population.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Psychiatric disorders are frequent among people with epilepsy but often under-recognized. The diagnosis and treatment of these disorders in low- and low-middle-income countries (LMICs) are challenging. METHODS This cross-sectional survey included people recruited during a community epilepsy screening program involving 59,509 individuals from poor communities in Ludhiana in Northwest India. Adults (age ≥18 years) with confirmed epilepsy on antiseizure medications were screened for depression and anxiety using the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) twice over two years of follow-up. They were later interviewed for symptoms using the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, which was then confirmed by assessments by an experienced psychiatrist. RESULTS Of the 240 people with confirmed epilepsy, 167 (70%) were adults, of whom, 116 (70%) eventually participated in the study. The NDDI-E with a cut-off of 15 identified depression in 14 (12%) of 116 people after one year of follow-up and 17 (15%) at two years. The GAD-7 using a cut-off of 6 identified 22 (19%) at one year and 32 (28%) with anxiety at two years. The area under the curves for NDDI-E was estimated as 0.62 (95%CI, 0.51-0.73; SE: 0.06; p = 0.04) and for GAD-7 as 0.62 (95%CI, 0.46-0.78; SE: 0.08; p = 0.12). Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale identified 63 (54%) people with psychiatric symptoms, for whom, a psychiatric diagnosis was confirmed in 60 (52%). A psychiatric diagnosis was associated with education below high school [Odds Ratio (OR): 2.59, 95%CI, 1.12-5.1; p = 0.03], later age of seizure onset (OR, 1.05, 95%CI: 1.0-1.10; p = 0.04), seizure frequency of at least one/year at enrolment (OR, 2.36, 95%CI: 1.0-5.58; p = 0.05) and the use of clobazam (OR, 5.09, 95%CI, 1.40-18.42; p = 0.01). CONCLUSION Depression and anxiety are common in people with epilepsy. Our findings underscore the low yields of screening instruments, NDDI-E and GAD-7, and comparatively better professionally-administered diagnostic assessments in resource-limited settings in LMICs. Moreover, previously established cut-offs do not apply to the community studied.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to explore the potential mechanisms of exercise to prevent pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and search for diagnostic indictors for POP. Methods We used two clinical POP datasets with patients' information (GSE12852 and GSE53868), a dataset consisting of altered microRNA expression in circulating blood after exercise (GSE69717) for bioinformatic analysis and clinical diagnostic analysis, while a series of cellular experiments were conducted for preliminary mechanical validation. Results Our results show that AXUD1 is highly expressed in the smooth muscle of the ovary and is a key pathogenic gene in POP, while miR-133b is a key molecule in the regulation of POP by exercise-induced serum exosomes. The AUCs of AXUD1 for POP diagnosis were 0.842 and 0.840 in GSE12852 and GSE53868 respectively. At cut-off value = 9.627, the sensitivity and specificity of AXUD1 for predicating POP is 1.000 and 0.833 respectively for GSE53868, while at cut-off value = 3324.640, the sensitivity and specificity of AXUD1 for predicating POP is 0.941 and 0.812 separately for GSE12852. Analysis and experiments confirmed that miR-133b can directly regulate AXUD1. miR-133b mediated C2C12 myoblasts proliferation and inhibited hydrogen peroxide-induced apoptosis. Conclusions Our study proved that AXUD1 is a good clinical diagnostic indicator for POP and provided a theoretical basis for future prevention of POP through exercise and a potential target for intervention in muscle dysfunction.

Abstract
Background Epilepsy is one of the most frequent and serious brain disorders. The nature of the disorder and the unpredictability of seizures usually puts patients in a state of apprehension and anticipation, which creates a continuous condition of anxiety. COVID-19 pandemic has created a state of generalized anxiety all over the world. It is expected that patients with epilepsy (PWE) will suffer from more anxiety during the pandemic. This cross-sectional study was applied on 290 PWE. Data were collected by personal interview with each patient using GAD-7 scale for diagnosing anxiety and assessing its severity. We aimed to assess the prevalence of anxiety and to assess its risk factors in PWE during COVID-19 pandemic. Results We found that 52.4% of PWE suffered from anxiety. Not working, low financial status, fear of infection and death by COVID-19, fear of job loss, had job changes during pandemic, increased seizures rate during pandemic, increased ER visits, and lack of drug adherence during the pandemic, are significantly associated with increased risk of anxiety. Conclusions COVID-19 pandemic has a serious effect on the psychological and the physical wellbeing of PWE. There was an increased rate of anxiety during COVID-19 pandemic in PWE with its subsequent burden on those patients. So, these patients are in a high need of care and support during the pandemic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To develop a Russian version of The Epilepsy Anxiety Survey Instrument (EASI) and assess its psychometric properties in a Russian sample of patients with epilepsy (PWE). To compare the brief version of EASI with the General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) - the most common tool for a rapid anxiety screening. METHODS The study sample consisted of 181 consecutive Russian-speaking PWE. The Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview was used as a gold standard for diagnosing anxiety disorders. All patients completed the set of questionnaires - the Russian version of the GAD-7, The Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E), and the EASI. Internal reliability of the EASI and brEASI, convergent and divergent validity of the brEASI with the GAD-7 and the NDDI-E, and factor structure assessment were performed. RESULTS Among 33.7% of patients with epilepsy diagnosed with any anxiety disorder, 16% had panic disorder, 10.5% had agoraphobia, 8.3% had social anxiety disorder, 21.0% had generalized anxiety disorder, and 13.3% had several comorbid anxiety disorders. The EASI factor structure differed from the original, revealing an additional factor with two items. Nevertheless, the brief version (brEASI) showed excellent screening properties - the AUC to detect any anxiety disorder was 0.916 with the optimal cutoff point > 7 points. CONCLUSION The brEASI performed better than the GAD-7 in our sample and, therefore, may be considered a first-line screening tool for anxiety disorders in PWE.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Latissimus dorsi transfer (LDT) and pectoralis major transfer (PMT) were developed to treat an irreparable subscapularis tendon tear (ISScT); however, the difference in their outcomes remains unclear. PURPOSE To systematically review and compare the outcomes of LDT and PMT for ISScT. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review; Level of evidence, 4. METHODS A systematic review was performed through a comprehensive search of Embase, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library. Studies of LDT or PMT were included according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The primary outcome was the Constant-Murley score (CMS) at the final follow-up. Secondary outcomes included the subjective shoulder value (SSV), visual analog scale (VAS) score for pain, active shoulder range of motion, and the belly-press and lift-off tests. Postoperative failure and complication rates were the safety outcome measures. Outcomes were summarized into the LDT and PMT groups, and results were compared statistically (P < .05). RESULTS Twelve studies were included in this review: 184 shoulders from 9 studies for the PMT group and 85 shoulders from 3 studies for the LDT group. For the PMT and LDT groups, the mean ages were 58.9 and 55.1 years, respectively, and the mean follow-up was 66.9 and 17.4 months, respectively. Overall, the LDT and PMT groups improved in the primary outcome (CMS) and secondary outcomes (SSV, VAS, ROM, and belly-press and lift-off tests), with low rates of failure and complication. When compared with the PMT group, the LDT group showed more significant improvements in CMS (35.2 vs 24.7; P < .001), active forward flexion (44.3° vs 14.7°; P < .001), abduction (35.0° vs 17.6°; P < .002), and positive belly-press test rate (45% vs 27%; P < .001). No statistically significant difference was seen between the groups in postoperative failure rate, complication rate, mean improvement of active internal rotation, VAS, or SSV. CONCLUSION In general, LDT showed significantly better clinical outcomes postoperatively than did PMT. The available fair-quality evidence suggested that LDT might be a better choice for ISScT. Further evaluations on the relative benefits of the 2 surgical approaches are required, with more high-quality randomized controlled studies.

Objective Approximately 20% of people with epilepsy (PWE) suffer from anxiety. These fears are quite diverse and may manifest periictally or interictally, be part of the seizure's semiology, or an expression of reactive psychological distress from seizures themselves. Our review addresses the question of what screening tools are used in clinical care and epileptological research to capture the complexity of epilepsy-specific anxieties. Method On 2021/11/11, we entered a search string in PubMed that covered our research interest as completely as possible. We also screened the bibliographies of our findings and followed PubMed's recommendations. From the assessments we found in the included studies, we extracted domains that represent the range of manifestations of anxiety, in order to compare the tools and to discuss to what extent they are suitable for assessing epilepsy-specific anxieties. Results We screened 1,621 abstracts. In total, we identified 24 different anxiety assessments. In addition to the psychiatric assessments in use, we found 7 tools that were designed to assess epilepsy-specific anxieties. The latter focus on different aspects of epilepsy-specific anxieties. In some cases, the conceptual frameworks are not sufficiently transparent or divergent. Conclusion Because a diagnosis of epilepsy can result in, or seizures may appear as, anxiety, it is important to better understand this psychological burden and address it therapeutically, if necessary. There is a need for screening tools that integrate specific points of a variety of assessments, so as to cover the broad range of epilepsy-specific fears. None of the assessments we found meets this integrative perspective. At the same time, the appropriate design of such a required tool presupposes a conceptual framework of what should be considered as epilepsy-specific anxiety.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hip fracture in the elderly is a worldwide medical problem. New-onset depression after hip fracture has also received attention because of its increasing incidence and negative impact on recovery.
AIM To provide a synthesis of the literature addressing two very important questions arising from postoperative hip fracture depression (PHFD) research: the risk factors and associated clinical outcomes of PHFD, and the optimal options for intervention in PHFD.
METHODS We searched the PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and PsycINFO databases for English papers published from 2000 to 2021.
RESULTS Our results showed that PHFD may result in poor clinical outcomes, such as poor physical function and more medical support. In addition, the risk factors for PHFD were summarized, which made it possible to assess patients preoperatively. Moreover, our work preliminarily suggested that comprehensive care may be the optimal treatment option for PHFDs, while interdisciplinary intervention can also be clinically useful.
CONCLUSION We suggest that clinicians should assess risk factors for PHFDs preoperatively, and future research should further validate current treatment methods in more countries and regions and explore more advanced solutions.

Abstract
Background: Anxiety and depression remain underdiagnosed in routine clinical practice in up to two thirds of epilepsy patients despite significant impact on medical and psychosocial outcome. Barriers to adequate mental health care for epilepsy and/or psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) include a lack of integrated mental health specialists and standardized procedures. This naturalistic study outlines the procedures and outcome of a recently established psychotherapeutic service. Methods: Routine screening included the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E, cut-off value > 13) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7, cut-off value > 5). Positively (above cut-off in at least one questionnaire) screened patients were seen for a standardized interview for mental health disorders and the development of a personalized treatment plan. PNES patients were seen irrespective of their screening score. Resources were provided to support self-help and access to psychotherapy. Patients were contacted 1 month after discharge to evaluate adherence to therapeutic recommendations. Results: 120 patients were screened. Overall, 56 of 77 positively screened patients (77%) were found to have a psychiatric diagnosis through standardized interview. More epilepsy patients with an anxiety disorder had previously been undiagnosed compared to those with a depressive episode (63% vs. 30%); 24 epilepsy patients (62%) with a psychiatric comorbidity and 10 PNES patients (59%) were not receiving any mental health care. At follow-up, 16/17 (94%) epilepsy patients and 7/7 PNES patients without prior psychiatric treatment were adhering to therapeutic recommendations. Conclusion: Integrating mental health specialists and establishing standardized screening and follow-up procedures improve adherence to mental health care recommendations in epilepsy and PNES patients.

Abstract
The regular use of patient-reported measures (PRMs) has been associated with greater patient satisfaction and outcomes. In this article, we will review the Calgary Comprehensive Epilepsy Program's successful experience with PRMs in both clinical and research settings, as well as our current challenges and future directions. Our experience will illustrate that is feasible and convenient to implement PRMs, and especially electronic PRMs (ePRMs), into epilepsy clinics. These PRMs have direct clinical and research applications. They inform clinical decision making through readily interpretable scales to which clinicians can expeditiously respond. Equally, they are increasingly forming an integral and central component of intervention and outcomes-based research. However, implementation studies are necessary to address knowledge gaps and facilitate adoption and dissemination of this approach. A natural symbiosis of the clinical and research realms is precision medicine. The foundations of precision-based interventions are now being set whereby we can maximize the quality of life and psychosocial functioning on an individual level. As illustrated in this article, this exciting prospect crucially depends on the routine use of ePRMs in the everyday care of people with epilepsy. Increasing ePRMs uptake will clearly be a catalyst propelling precision epilepsy from aspiration to clinical reality.

Abstract
The co-occurrence of epilepsy and psychiatric disorders is long known. The scope of this systematic review was to describe the prevalence of specific interictal psychiatric disorders in patients with epilepsy and to assess possible associations between psychiatric disorders and other sociodemographic or clinical characteristics of epilepsy patients. MEDLINE and ScienceDirect were searched for original articles published between January 2015 and February 2021 describing studies that involved epilepsy patients with psychiatric comorbidities. We identified 13 studies with heterogenous methodology and reporting. Prevalence of any psychiatric disorder observed was up to 51% in idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE), up to 43.1% in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and up to 43.3% in a general population of patients with epilepsy. The most frequent psychiatric comorbidities associated with epilepsy included mood/affective disorders (up to 40% for lifetime occurrence and up to 23% for current occurrence), anxiety disorders (up to 30.8% for lifetime occurrence and up to 15.6% for current occurrence), personality disorders [up to 11% in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME)] and psychotic disorders (up to 4% of epilepsy patients). In focal epilepsy, depressive disorders might be associated with specific brain imaging findings and with cognitive impairment. Anxiety disorders are associated with a higher frequency of generalized tonico-clonic seizure (GTCS) and with worse social functioning. Psychotic disorders were found to be associated with longer duration of epilepsy. Childhood maltreatment experiences were found to be a powerful predictor for the occurrence of psychiatric comorbidities in epilepsy patients, while data regarding association of other epilepsy characteristics with the presence of psychiatric disorders is conflicting.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study was undertaken to identify factors that predict discordance between the screening instruments Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7), and diagnoses made by qualified psychiatrists among patients with seizure disorders. Importantly, this is not a validation study; rather, it investigates clinicodemographic predictors of discordance between screening tests and psychiatric assessment. METHODS Adult patients admitted for inpatient video-electroencephalographic monitoring completed eight psychometric instruments, including the NDDI-E and GAD-7, and psychiatric assessment. Patients were grouped according to agreement between the screening instrument and psychiatrists' diagnoses. Screening was "discordant" if the outcome differed from the psychiatrist's diagnosis, including both false positive and false negative results. Bayesian statistical analyses were used to identify factors associated with discordance. RESULTS A total of 411 patients met inclusion criteria; mean age was 39.6 years, and 55.5% (n = 228) were female. Depression screening was discordant in 33% of cases (n = 136/411), driven by false positives (n = 76/136, 56%) rather than false negatives (n = 60/136, 44%). Likewise, anxiety screening was discordant in one third of cases (n = 121/411, 29%) due to false positives (n = 60/121, 50%) and false negatives (n = 61/121, 50%). Seven clinical factors were predictive of discordant screening for both depression and anxiety: greater dissociative symptoms, greater patient-reported adverse events, subjective cognitive impairment, negative affect, detachment, disinhibition, and psychoticism. When the analyses were restricted to only patients with psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) or epilepsy, the rate of discordant depression screening was higher in the PNES group (n = 29, 47%) compared to the epilepsy group (n = 70, 30%, Bayes factor for the alternative hypothesis = 4.65). SIGNIFICANCE Patients with seizure disorders who self-report a variety of psychiatric and other symptoms should be evaluated more thoroughly for depression and anxiety, regardless of screening test results, especially if they have PNES and not epilepsy. Clinical assessment by a qualified psychiatrist remains essential in diagnosing depressive and anxiety disorders among such patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine the prevalence of depression and anxiety and associated factors among returning workers with different epidemic experience in East China. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among 2435 employees from the enterprises located in Deqing (low-risk epidemic area) and Taizhou (high-risk epidemic area) of East China in March 2020. An online questionnaire covered information on sociodemographic and lifestyle factors as well as knowledge, attitude, behavior and experience about COVID-19. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) were applied to assess depression and anxiety symptoms, respectively. Logistic regression model was used to estimate adjusted odds ratios (aORs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for depression and anxiety symptoms associated with risk factors. RESULTS The participants were aged 36.3 ± 9.2 years on average, and nearly half of them were female. Overall, the prevalence of depression, anxiety and both were 19.4%, 12.3% and 9.8%, and decreased with age. After adjustment for covariates, 16 or more years of education, being a white-collar worker or working in the high-risk epidemic area were significantly associated with increased risks of both depression and anxiety, in contract regular physical exercise was associated with decreased risks of both mental disorders. CONCLUSION The depression and anxiety problems were prevalent among returning workers during the COVID-19 period. Targeted psychological interventions should be developed and implemented to improve their mental health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to assess access to healthcare and to estimate the prevalence of depression and anxiety among persons with epilepsy (PWE) during the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. METHODS We conducted a multicountry online survey among PWE. Persons with epilepsy were invited to participate through various social media channels. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) scale were used to score anxiety and depression. Logistic regression modeling was used to investigate factors associated with anxiety and depression. RESULTS Three hundred ninety-nine PWE were included (mean age: 38.22 ± 12.09 years), the majority were female (80.2%) and living in high-income countries (83.2%). Two hundred three PWE reported symptoms of a cold since January 2020. Nine (25%) of the 36 PWE tested for COVID were positive. A total of 72 PWE (19.6%) reported problems to obtain antiseizure medication (ASM), which in 25% of cases was directly COVID-related. Of the 399 PWE, 201 (50.4%) screened positive for anxiety according to the HADS; 159 (39.8%) and 187 (46.9%) PWE screened positive for depression based on the HADS and PHQ-9 scale, respectively. Female gender and financial problems were associated with both depression and anxiety. A planned follow-up consultation with the treating physician was associated with a lower risk of depression, whereas difficulties to access ASM treatment increased the odds of depression. In 65/137 (47.4%) PWE with a planned follow-up visit with the treating physician, this consultation was canceled. CONCLUSIONS Innovative approaches are needed to ensure continuity in access to ASM treatment. Healthcare workers should ensure continued follow-up, either through inperson or telehealth appointments, to timely identify symptoms of anxiety and depression and act accordingly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epilepsy is a complex neurological disorder characterized by recurrent, unprovoked seizures resulting from the sudden abnormal discharge of brain neurons. It leads to transient brain dysfunction, manifested by abnormal physical movements and consciousness. It can occur at any age, affecting approximately 65 million worldwide, one third of which are still estimated to suffer from refractory seizures. There is an urgent need for further establishment of seizure models in animals, which provides an approach to model epilepsy and could be used to identify novel anti-epileptic therapeutics in the future.
AIM To compare three administration modes for establishing a seizure model caused by N-Methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) in zebrafish.
METHODS Three administration routes of NMDA, including immersion, intravitreal injection and intraperitoneal injection, were compared with regard to their effects on inducing seizure-like behaviors in adult zebrafish. We evaluated neurotoxicity by observing behavioral changes in zebrafish and graded those behaviors with a seizure score. In addition, the protective effects of MK-801 (Dizocilpine) and natural active constituent resveratrol against NMDA-induced alterations were studied.
RESULTS The three NMDA-administration methods triggered different patterns of the epileptic process in adult zebrafish. Seizure scores were increased after increasing NMDA concentration regardless of the mode of administration. However, the curve of immersion continuously rose to a high plateau (after 50 min), while the curves of intravitreal injection and intraperitoneal injection showed a spike in the early stage (10-20 min) followed by a steady decrease in seizure scores. Furthermore, pretreatment with resveratrol and MK-801 significantly delayed seizure onset time and lowered seizure scores.
CONCLUSION By comparing the three methods of administration, intravitreal injection of NMDA was the most suitable for establishing an acute epileptic model in zebrafish. Thus, intraperitoneal injection in zebrafish can be applied to simulate diseases such as epilepsy. In addition, NMDA immersion may be an appropriate method to induce persistent seizures. Moreover, MK-801 and resveratrol showed strong anti-epileptic effects; thus, both of them may be clinically valuable treatments for epilepsy.
