Abstract
BACKGROUND A. muciniphila (AKK) has attracted extensive research interest as a potential next-generation probiotics, but its role in intestinal pathology is remains unclear. Herein, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of A. muciniphila DSM 22,959 on growth performance, intestinal barrier function, microecology and inflammatory response of weaned piglets stimulated by dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS). METHOD Twenty-four Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire (DLY) weaned piglets used for a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments were divided into four groups with six piglets in each group. From 1 to 15 d, the CA and DA groups were orally fed with 1.0 × 1011 colony-forming units A. muciniphila per day, while the CON and DCON groups were received gastric infusion of anaerobic sterile saline per day. The pigs were orally challenged (DCON, DA) or not (CON, CA) with DSS from day 9 to the end of the experiment and slaughtered on day 16. RESULTS Presence of A. muciniphila in DSS-challenged weaned pigs resulted in numerically increased diarrhea rate, blood neutrophilic granulocyte, serum C-reactive protein and immunoglobulin M levels, and numerically reduced final weight, average daily feed intake and average daily gain. The decrease in intestinal villus height, villous height: crypt depth ratio and digestibility was accompanied by lower expression of ZO1, ZO2, Claudin1, DMT1, CAT1, SGLT1 and PBD114 genes, as well as decreased enzyme activities of intestinal alkaline phosphatase, lactase, sucrase and maltase of piglets in DA group compared to piglets in DCON group. The abundance of Bifdobacterium, Lactobacillus, A. muciniphila, Ruminococcus gnavus was numerically higher in digesta of pigs in DA group than those in DCON group. The inflammatory responses of piglets were dramatically changed by the simultaneous presence of A. muciniphila and DSS: expression level of IL17A, IL17F, IL23, RORγt, Stat3 was elevated in DA pigs compared to the other pig groups. CONCLUSIONS Our result showed that the oral A. muciniphila aggravates DSS-induced health damage of weaned piglet, which may attribute to the deteriorating intestinal morphology, dysbiosis of microbiota and inflammatory response disorders.

Abstract
Intestinal mucosal tissues are prone to infections, often leading to inflammation. Lactic acid bacteria in the gut can modulate these inflammatory responses, but the interaction between host cells and lactic acid bacteria remains unclear. This study examines how Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HY7714 alleviates intestinal inflammation using gut-on-a-chip technology and in vitro models. Inflammation was induced using a gut-on-a-chip, and changes in cell morphology and barrier function were analyzed. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from HY7714-improved intestinal cell structure repaired damage and restored tight junction integrity. Additionally, they attenuated inflammatory cytokines by regulating the MyD88/mTOR/NF-κB signaling pathway. RNA sequencing revealed downregulation of vicinal oxygen chelate (VOC) family proteins and proline aminopeptidase, both linked to inflammation and extracellular matrix interactions in skin health. Therefore, we explored the effects of HY7714 EVs on skin cells. The findings showed that HY7714 EVs reduced cytotoxicity and downregulated metalloproteinase expression in skin cells exposed to UVB radiation, indicating their potential anti-aging and anti-photoaging properties. These findings suggest that HY7714-derived EVs enhance both intestinal and skin health by reducing inflammation and improving barrier function, with potential benefits for the gut-skin axis.

Abstract
Background: Carbapenems are one of the mainstays of treatment for antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB). This has made the rise of carbapenem-resistant bacteria a threat to global health. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) has identified carbapenem-resistant bacteria as critical pathogens, and the development of novel antibacterials capable of combating infections caused by these bacteria is a priority. Objective: With the aim of finding new alternatives to fight against ARB and especially against carbapenem-resistant bacteria, we have developed a series of living materials formed by incorporating the probiotics Lactobacillus plantarum (Lp), Lactobacillus fermentum (Lf), and a mixture of both (L. plantarum+L. fermentum) into bacterial cellulose (BC). Results: These probiotic-loaded bacterial celluloses inhibited the proliferation of three ARB, including two carbapenem-resistant enterobacteria (CRE), identified as Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter cloacae, and a carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Interestingly, while the probiotics L. plantarum, L. fermentum, and the mixture of both were found to be inactive against these ARB, they became active once incorporated into BC. Conclusions: The increase in activity is due to the known effect that cells increase their activity once incorporated into a suitable matrix, forming a living material. For the same reasons, the probiotics in the living materials BC-L. plantarum, BC-L. fermentum, and BC-L. plantarum+L. fermentum showed increased stability, allowing them to be stored with bacterial activity for long periods of time (two months).

Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the biological activity and probiotic properties of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from sweet potato stalk kimchi (SPK). Various LAB and Bacillus spp. are active in the early stages of the fermentation of kimchi made from sweet potato stalk. Four strains of LAB were identified, including SPK2 (Levilactobacillus brevis ATCC 14869), SPK3 (Latilactobacillus sakei NBRC 15893), SPK8 and SPK9 (Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. dextranicum NCFB 529). SPK2, SPK3, SPK8, and SPK9 showed 64.64-94.23% bile acid resistance and 78.66-82.61% pH resistance. We identified over 106 CFU/mL after heat treatment at 75 °C. Four strains showed high antimicrobial activity to Escherichia coli and Salmonella Typhimurium with a clear zone of >11 mm. SPK2 had the highest antioxidative potentials, higher than the other three bacteria, with 44.96 μg of gallic acid equivalent/mg and 63.57% DPPH scavenging activity. These results demonstrate that the four strains isolated from sweet potato kimchi stalk show potential as probiotics with excellent antibacterial effects and may be useful in developing health-promoting products.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to isolate, identify, and assess the safety and functionality in vitro of putative probiotic bacterial strains. Isolation procedures were based on standard methods using elective and selective media. The isolates were identified by comparative 16S rRNA sequencing analysis while their safety was determined according to the safety tests recommended by the FAO/WHO such as antibiotic resistance, hemolysin, and biogenic amine production. Most of the isolates did not pass the in vitro safety tests; therefore, only Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (from ant intestine and cheese), Lacticaseibacillus paracasei (from goat milk and kimchi), Enterococcus faecium (from chili doenjang and vegetables with kimchi ingredients), Limosilactobacillus fermentum (from saliva), and Companilactobacillus alimentarius (from kimchi) were identified and selected for further studies. The isolates were further differentiated by rep-PCR and identified to the strain level by genotypic (16S rRNA) and phenotypic (Gen III) approaches. Subsequently, the strain tolerance to acid and bile was evaluated resulting in good viability after simulated gastrointestinal tract passage. Adhesion to mucin in vitro and the presence of mub, mapA, and ef-tu genes confirmed the adhesive potential of the strains and the results of features associated with adhesion such as hydrophobicity and zeta potential extended the insights. This study reflects the importance of fermented and non-fermented food products as a promising source of lactic acid bacteria with potential probiotic properties. Additionally, it aims to highlight the challenges associated with the selection of safe strains, which often fail in the in vitro tests, thus hindering the possibilities of "uncovering" novel and safe probiotic strains.

Abstract
As an alternative to the criticized antibiotics, probiotics have been adopted for their eco-friendly nature and ability to enhance host growth and immunity. Nevertheless, reports suggest ineffectiveness in commercially available probiotics since most are from non-fish sources; thus, this study was envisaged to isolate and characterize new Bacillus spp. from the gut of hybrid grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus♀ × Epinephelus lanceolatus♂) which could serve as potential probiotics. The isolation and characterization were performed based on their morphological and biochemical properties, and 16S rRNA sequencing homology analysis. A subsequent 30-day in vivo biosafety feeding trial was conducted to ascertain isolates' non-pathogenicity, as well as their effects on fish growth, and intestinal mucosal microvilli via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. Four Bacillus spp. strains, namely, B. velezensis strain PGSAK01 (accession number OQ726606), B. stercoris strain PGSAK05 (accession number OQ726607), B. velezensis strain PGSAK17 (accession number OQ726601), and B. subtilis strain PGSAK19 (accession number OQ726605), were identified and characterized in the current study. The strains showed promising probiotic properties such higher adhesion capability, higher thermotolerance, displaying higher survivability to 0.5 % bile, lower pH tolerance, γ-haemolytic activity, and multispecies characteristics. Among the 24 antibiotics tested, while all isolates showed susceptibility to 21, the PGSAK01 strain showed resistance to furazolidone antibiotics. None of the isolates showed possession of i) virulence factor genes encoding enterotoxigenic (hblA, hblC, hblD, nheA, nheB, and entFM) and emetic (cereulide synthetase gene, ces) genes, and ii) streptomycin resistance gene (vat c), ampicillin-resistant genes (mecA and bla), and vancomycin-resistant gene (van B). Nevertheless, the PGSAK01 and PGSAK17 strains showed possession of tek K, cat, and ant(4')-Ia (adenylyltransferase) (except the PGSAK01) resistant genes. All isolates displayed better antimicrobial effects against pathogenic bacteria Streptococcus agalactiae, S. iniae, Vibrio harveyi, and V. alginolyticus. The in vivo biosafety trial involved hybrid grouper fish being grouped into five (average weight 32 ± 0.94 g), namely, the group fed the basal diet void of isolate's supplementation (control), and the remaining four groups fed the basal diet with 1 × 108 CFU/g diet of individual strain PGSAK01, PGSAK05, PGSAK17, and PGSAK19 supplementation. At the end of the study, a significantly higher WGR, K (except the PGSAK01 group), VSI; lysozyme (except PGSAK01 group), total antioxidant activity, alkaline phosphatase, superoxide dismutase enzyme activities; highly dense intestinal mucosal villi (based on the scanning electron microscopy analysis); and significantly lower malondialdehyde levels were witnessed in the isolated treated groups compared to the control, supporting the results obtained in the auto-aggregation and cell-surface hydrophobicity test. This work's results have provided thought-provoking targets; thus, studies involving extensive genome sequencing and functional annotation analysis will be explored to offer unfathomable insights into their mechanisms of action and potential health benefits, further establishing the four Bacillus strains' (PGSAK01, PGSAK05, PGSAK17, and PGSAK19) potential role in probiotic fields and functional foods.

Abstract
Probiotics are commonly incorporated into equine diets to impart health and performance benefits; however, peer-reviewed evidence supporting their efficacy in horses is limited. Interestingly, bacteria from the Bacillus genus are gaining interest for their unique ability to impact metabolic, immune, and inflammatory pathways. The objective of this trial was to evaluate a selection of Bacilli for their role in altering the inflammatory response in horses to exercise. Eighteen horses were utilized in a randomized cross-over trial. Horses were randomly assigned to one of 6 starting treatments including a negative and positive control, and groups that received one of 4 probiotics (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086, Bacillus subtilis-1, Bacillus subtilis-2, or Bacillus amyloliquefaciens) top dressed to their daily ration at a rate of 8 billion CFU/d mixed into dried whey powder. All horses received a similar base diet of grass hay offered at 2.0% of bodyweight daily along with 4.54 kg of a commercially available textured horse feed. Each 3-wk phase of the trial consisted of a 2-wk dietary acclimation followed by a 1-wk exercise challenge and sample collection. Between phases, horses were offered only their base diet. On the day of exercise, horses were offered their 0700 ration and then subjected to a 2-h standardized exercise test. Blood samples were obtained prior to starting exercise and then again at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 24, 48, and 72-h postexercise. Horses in the positive control group were administered 0.23 mg/kg BW flunixin meglumine immediately following the 0-h sampling. Samples were analyzed for serum amyloid A (SAA), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) concentrations. Data were evaluated via ANOVA using the MIXED procedure in SAS 9.4. Exercise-induced inflammation as evidenced by SAA, IL-6, and PGE2 increases postexercise. Horses consuming B. coagulans GBI-30, 6086 had reduced production of SAA, IL-6, and PGE2 compared to all other probiotic-fed groups and the negative control (P < 0.001). The positive control successfully ameliorated the postexercise inflammatory response. These data highlight the potential for B. coagulans GBI-30, 6086 to be incorporated into equine rations as a method to support optimal response to exercise or other inflammation-inducing challenges. Additional research is ongoing to elucidate the methodology by which these results occur.

Abstract
The microbiota plays an important role in numerous physiological processes, pathogenesis, development, and metabolism in different animal species. In humans, several studies have demonstrated an association between the vaginal microbiota and fertility rates, and even success in assisted reproduction techniques. In the context of cattle reproduction, although few studies have addressed the microbiota in a healthy state (which is not associated with diseases that affect the reproductive tract of cows), changes in its composition also seem to influence fertility. This review aims to explain the importance of the reproductive microbiota in female bovines and what is available in the literature regarding its possible role in increasing fertility. What are the challenges involved in this process? Future perspectives on its use and manipulation as a selection or intervention tool. Will it be possible to one day extrapolate the findings to reality and apply them in the field? In short, understanding the role of the reproductive microbiota of female bovines can signal the prospect of increasing production, whether of milk or meat, from the same number of animals, as it can optimize reproductive efficiency and perhaps become an allied tool for the economic profitability and sustainability of livestock farming.

Abstract
While probiotics are generally considered safe, concerns persist regarding the accuracy of labels on these supplements and their potential contribution to the spread of antibiotic resistance genes. Given that probiotics are predominantly ingested with a view towards obtaining particular health benefits. The objective of this study is to assess the composition of 50 widely available probiotic supplements in the USA using shotgun metagenome sequencing. The study also determines the potential resistome profile, and the functional characteristics of these products. This study finds that 67% of products does not contain any labeling inaccuracies. Antimicrobial Resistance Genes (ARGs) are identified in several products, particularly Bacillus-based products carrying between 10 and 56 genes. The risk posed by the presence of these ARGs requires further study. Functional analysis reveals differences in metabolic profiles among probiotic supplements, indicating the importance of strain-level selection for personalized probiotics. This study provides updated and comprehensive analysis to evaluate a snapshot of the USA market. The study demonstrates that label inaccuracies occur on approximately one third of popular dietary supplement products sold in the USA, supporting the need for improved approaches to marketing and quality control. Further, the risk of antibiotic resistance, especially in Bacillus-based formulations, should be assessed.

Abstract
Background and Aim Donkey and mare milk have high nutritional and functional values, but their lactic acid bacteria (LAB) content remains poorly studied and undervalued in the Algerian dairy industry. This study aimed to isolate and select LAB strains that produce antimicrobial substances during fermentation and to characterize the probiotic profiles of each extracted strain to indicate their potential for antioxidant and proteolytic activity. Materials and Methods This study focuses on isolating and identifying lactic acid bacterial strains from 10 Equid-fermented milk samples collected in two regions of El Bayed Wilaya (Algeria). Identification of LAB strains was obtained by 16S rRNA sequencing. The probiotic properties of important strains and their aromatic productivity power are assessed. To evaluate their antibacterial activity against Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Chryseobacterium joostei, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli, we selected 21 strains. Different induction methods have been used to amplify the antibacterial effects against these pathogenic strains. Results Among a total of 60 identified strains, 31 had a probiotic profile, and most were catalase-negative. Aromatic productivity power was observed in eight strains: Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus paracasei, Weissella confusa, Weissella cibaria, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Leuconostoc lactis, and Lactobacillus sp1. Conclusion Our results provide insight into the considerable diversity of LAB present in fermented donkey and mare milk. To meet the expectations of the Algerian dairy industry, it is important that the probiotic skills of the nine selected strains are met. In addition, a significant number of these strains may have important probiotic activity and biotechnological potential.

Abstract
This study aimed to characterize the genomic and metabolic properties of a novel Lb. fermentum strain AGA52 which was isolated from a lactic acid fermented beverage called "shalgam." The genome size of AGA52 was 2,001,184 bp, which is predicted to carry 2024 genes, including 50 tRNAs, 3 rRNAs, 3 ncRNAs, 15 CRISPR repeats, 14 CRISPR spacers, and 1 CRISPR array. The genome has a GC content of 51.82% including 95 predicted pseudogenes, 56 complete or partial transposases, and 2 intact prophages. The similarity of the clusters of orthologous groups (COG) was analyzed by comparison with the other Lb. fermentum strains. The detected resistome on the genome of AGA52 was found to be intrinsic originated. Besides, it has been determined that AGA52 has an obligate heterofermentative carbohydrate metabolism due to the absence of the 1-phosphofructokinase (pfK) enzyme. Furthermore, the strain is found to have a better antioxidant capacity and to be tolerant to gastrointestinal simulated conditions. It was also observed that the AGA52 has antimicrobial activity against Yersinia enterocolitica ATCC9610, Bacillus cereus ATCC33019, Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium, Escherichia coli O157:h7 ATCC43897, Listeria monocytogenes ATCC7644, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC13883, and Proteus vulgaris ATCC8427. Additionally, AGA52 exhibited 42.74 ± 4.82% adherence to HT29 cells. Cholesterol assimilation (33.9 ± 0.005%) and GABA production capacities were also confirmed by "in silico" and "in vitro." Overall, the investigation of genomic and metabolic features of the AGA52 revealed that is a potential psychobiotic and probiotic dietary supplement candidate and can bring functional benefits to the host.

Abstract
Antimicrobial peptides, such as bacteriocin, produced by probiotics have become a promising novel class of therapeutic agents for treating infectious diseases. Selected lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from fermented foods with probiotic potential were evaluated for various tests, including exopolysaccharide production, antibiotic susceptibility, acid and bile tolerance, antibacterial activity, and cell adhesion and cytotoxicity to gastric cell lines. Six selected LAB strains maintained their high viability under gastrointestinal conditions, produced high exopolysaccharides, showed no or less cytotoxicity, and adhered successfully to gastric cells. Furthermore, three strains, Weissella confusa CYLB30, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CYLB47, and Limosilactobacillus fermentum CYLB55, demonstrated a strong antibacterial effect against drug-resistant Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica serovar Choleraesuis, Enterococcus faecium, and Staphylococcus aureus. Whole genome sequencing was performed on these three strains using the Nanopore platform; then, the results showed that all three strains did not harbor genes related to toxins, superantigens, and acquired antimicrobial resistance, in their genome. The bacteriocin gene cluster was found in CYLB47 genome, but not in CYLB30 and CYLB55 genomes. In SDS-PAGE, the extract of CYLB30 and CYLB47 bacteriocin-like inhibitory substance (BLIS) yielded a single band with a size of less than 10 kDa. These BLIS inhibited the growth and biofilm formation of drug-resistant P. aeruginosa and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), causing membrane disruption and inhibiting adhesion ability to human skin HaCaT cells. Moreover, CYLB30 and CYLB47 BLIS rescued the larvae after being infected with P. aeruginosa and MRSA infections. In conclusion, CYLB30 and CYLB47 BLIS may be potential alternative treatment for multidrug-resistant bacteria infections.

Abstract
Levilactobacillus brevis KU15006, isolated from kimchi, exhibits pathogen-antagonistic and anti-diabetic activities; however, the safety of this strain has not been assessed. In the present study, L. brevis KU15006 was evaluated to elucidate its safety as a probiotic strain using phenotypic and genotypic analyses. Its safety was assessed using a minimum inhibitory concentration test comprising nine antibiotics, 26 antibiotic resistance genes, a single conjugative element, virulence gene analysis, hemolysis, cell cytotoxicity, mucin degradation, and toxic metabolite production. L. brevis KU15006 exhibited equal or lower minimum inhibitory concentration for the nine antibiotics than the cut-off value established by the European Food Safety Authority. It did not harbor antibiotic resistance and virulence genes. L. brevis KU15006 lacked β-hemolysis, mucin degradation, cytotoxicity against Caco-2 cells, gelatin liquefaction, bile salt deconjugation, and toxic metabolite production abilities. Based on the results, L. brevis KU15006, which has antagonistic and anti-diabetic effects, could be marketed as a probiotic in the future.

Abstract
Recently, an antimicrobial effect on Mycoplasma agalactiae (Ma), the main etiological agent of contagious agalactia (CA), was reported in vitro with strains of Enterococcus spp. from ovine and caprine milk. The aim of this work was to evaluate the interaction of Ma with the same Enterococcus spp. isolated from other anatomical locations (vagina) and other bacterial populations present in milk, such as coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS). The vaginal Enterococcus strains and the raw milk CNS were isolated from sheep and goats. Experimental in vitro conditions were prepared to assess the growth of Ma with and without the presence of these strains. The selected vaginal strains were identified as Enterococcus (E.) hirae and E. mundtii, and the strains of CNS were identified as Staphylococcus petrasii. Different interactions of Ma with ovine and caprine wild vaginal strains of Enterococcus and dairy strains of CNS are described for the first time: Ma can grow exponentially during 15 h with the selected strains, although with certain strains, its optimal growth can be negatively affected (p < 0.05). The colonization and/or excretion of Ma could, therefore, be influenced by certain endogenous bacterial strains. Our results increase the knowledge about possible bacterial ecology dynamics surrounding CA.

Abstract
Cancer is a life-threatening malignancy and one of the leading global causes of human mortality. New approaches are required for cancer therapy due to the unique properties of cancer cells and the side effects of chemotherapy. Probiotics have gained significant attention in the prevention and treatment of various diseases, including cancer. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the anti-cancer effects of probiotics, such as marine Lactobacillus species and their proteins. Five marine Lactobacillus species were isolated and identified from the Tamil Nadu Mangrove Pichavaram (TLMP) forest and named TLMP1, TLMP2, TLMP3, TLMP4, and TLMP5. The Lactobacillus isolates, and their proteins were administered to male golden Syrian hamsters. Tumor formation was effectively controlled in hamsters treated with crude Lactobacillus, extending their lifespan. Additionally, Lactobacillus proteins demonstrated an inhibitory effect on tumor formation in the treated group compared to the control. Molecular docking analysis revealed that Lactobacillus proteins interacted significantly with the cAMP-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit alpha. Amino acid residues LYS791, MET793, ARG841, ARG842, and LEU844 were involved in active site binding and played a crucial role in inhibiting cAMP-dependent protein kinase.

Abstract
Background Preparing a healthy and practical substitute for mayonnaise and reducing the complications caused by its consumption are two of the concerns of the producers of this product. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the possibility of producing synbiotic yogurt sauce prepared with Spirulina platensis microalgae extract (SPAE) as a valuable and alternative product for mayonnaise. Materials and Methods After preparing yogurt from fresh cow's milk, synbiotic yogurt sauce was prepared according to the formulation, and the effect of SPAE at the rate of 0.5, 1, and 2% on the viability of the probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus was evaluated, and chemical, rheological, and sensory tests were carried out in the storage period (35 days). Results The highest viability rate of L. acidophilus was related to the treatment containing 2% of SPAE with 1.31 log CFU/g reduction (from 9.02 log CFU/g on the first day to 7.71 log CFU/g on the final day) and 1% of SPAE with 2.98 log CFU/g reduction, respectively, which were significantly more effective than other treatments (P < 0.05), and it was found that the viability rate increases with the increase in the percentage of the prebiotic composition. There was also a significant difference between the treatments in the simulating conditions of the digestive system, and the viability of L. acidophilus in the treatment containing the prebiotic composition increased (P < 0.05). According to the results, during storage, in the presence of microalgae, acidity increased, and pH, viscosity, and sensory properties decreased compared to the control group. Upon analyzing the results, it was found that the addition of the prebiotic composition of SPAE, which is known as a functional product, led to a partial improvement in its properties. Therefore, the use of this alga, while benefiting from its medicinal and therapeutic properties, increases the viability rate of probiotic.

Abstract
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a critical gastrointestinal emergency with substantial morbidity and mortality risks, especially for very low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants, and unclear multifactorial pathophysiology. Whether common treatments for VLBW infants increase the NEC risk remains controversial. Indomethacin (utilized for patent ductus arteriosus) offers benefits but is concerning because of its vasoconstrictive impact on NEC susceptibility. Similarly, corticosteroids used to treat bronchopulmonary dysplasia may increase vulnerability to NEC by compromising immunity and altering the mesenteric blood flow. Histamine-2 receptor blockers (used to treat gastric bleeding) may inadvertently promote NEC by affecting bacterial colonization and translocation. Doxapram (used to treat apnea) poses a risk of gastrointestinal disturbance via gastric acid hypersecretion and circulatory changes. Glycerin enemas aid meconium evacuation but disrupt microbial equilibrium and trigger stress-related effects associated with the NEC risk. Prolonged antibiotic use may unintentionally increase the NEC risk. Blood transfusions for anemia can promote NEC via interactions between the immune response and ischemia-reperfusion injury. Probiotics for NEC prevention are associated with concerns regarding sepsis and bacteremia. Amid conflicting evidence, this review unveils NEC risk factors related to treatments for VLBW infants, offers a comprehensive overview of the current research, and guides personalized management strategies, thereby elucidating this clinical dilemma.

Abstract
The beneficial microorganisms in food are diverse and complex in structure. These beneficial microorganisms can produce different and unique flavors in the process of food fermentation. The unique flavor of these fermented foods is mainly produced by different raw and auxiliary materials, fermentation technology, and the accumulation of flavor substances by dominant microorganisms during fermentation. The succession and metabolic accumulation of microbial flora significantly impacts the distinctive flavor of fermented foods. The investigation of the role of microbial flora changes in the production of flavor substances during fermentation can reveal the potential connection between microbial flora succession and the formation of key flavor compounds. This paper reviewed the evolution of microbial flora structure as food fermented and the key volatile compounds that contribute to flavor in the food system and their potential relationship. Further, it was a certain guiding significance for food industrial production.

Abstract
Clostridium butyricum is known as a probiotic butyric acid bacterium that can improve the intestinal environment. In this study, we isolated a new strain of C. butyricum from infant feces and evaluated its physiological characteristics and antiviral efficacy by modulating the innate immune responses in vitro and in vivo. The isolated C. butyricum S-45-5 showed typical characteristics of C. butyricum including bile acid resistance, antibacterial ability, and growth promotion of various lactic acid bacteria. As an antiviral effect, C. butyricum S-45-5 markedly reduced the replication of influenza A virus (PR8), Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV), and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) in RAW264.7 cells in vitro. This suppression can be explained by the induction of antiviral state in cells by the induction of antiviral, IFN-related genes and secretion of IFNs and pro-inflammatory cytokines. In vivo, oral administration of C. butyricum S-45-5 exhibited prophylactic effects on BALB/c mice against fatal doses of highly pathogenic mouse-adapted influenza A subtypes (H1N1, H3N2, and H9N2). Before challenge with influenza virus, C. butyricum S-45-5-treated BALB/c mice showed increased levels of IFN-β, IFN-γ, IL-6, and IL-12 in serum, the small intestine, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), which correlated with observed prophylactic effects. Interestingly, after challenge with influenza virus, C. butyricum S-45-5-treated BALB/c mice showed reduced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and relatively higher levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines at day 7 post-infection. Taken together, these findings suggest that C. butyricum S-45-5 plays an antiviral role in vitro and in vivo by inducing an antiviral state and affects immune modulation to alleviate local and systemic inflammatory responses caused by influenza virus infection. Our study provides the beneficial effects of the new C. butyricum S-45-5 with antiviral effects as a probiotic.

Abstract
Lacticaseibacillus casei are commonly utilized as probiotic in a wide-range of fermented and unfermented dairy products. The stability of probiotics in fermented dairy products during shelf-life is of concern due to low pH and high level of organic acids. The objective of this study is to evaluate L. casei for their ability to survive in a model yogurt and fluid milk; additionally, their impact on the pH, organic acids, and sensory attributes of these products was examined. The strain-to-strain differences in cell densities in yogurt and milk inoculated at a therapeutic level at the end of shelf-life were 1.2 and 1.4 log CFU/mL, respectively. Five of the strains examined increased the pH of the yogurt, while two strains were observed to reduce the pH. In milk, one strain raised the pH, while eleven strains reduced the pH. The levels of lactate, acetate, and formate in both the yogurt and milk were altered in a strain-specific manner. The results suggested that the metabolism by these strains differed significantly during the shelf-life. Careful strain selection is required to identify probiotic L. casei strains that will survive through shelf-life in either yogurt or fluid milk and not impact product quality.

Abstract
To understand the biological roles of Pediococcus pentosaceus strains as probiotics isolated from the traditional Korean fermented food, Jangajji, Pediococcus pentosaceus was selected based on its high cinnamoyl esterase (CE) and antioxidant activities. The acid and bile stability, intestinal adhesion, antagonistic activity against human pathogens, cholesterol-lowering effects, and immune system stimulation without inflammatory effects were evaluated. Nitric oxide (NO) levels were measured in co-culture with various bacterial stimulants. Fermentation ability was measured by using a broccoli matrix and the sulforaphane levels were measured. Resistance to acidic and bilious conditions and 8% adherence to Caco-2 cells were observed. Cholesterol levels were lowered by 51% by assimilation. Moreover, these strains exhibited immunomodulatory properties with induction of macrophage TNF-α and IL-6 and had microstatic effects on various pathogens. Co-culture with various bacterial stimulants resulted in increased NO production. Fermentation activity was increased with the strains, and higher sulforaphane levels were observed. Therefore, in the future, the applicability of the selected strain to broccoli matrix-based fermented functional foods should be confirmed.

Abstract
The beneficial effects of lactic acid bacteria are well known and recognized as functional foods that are health benefits for companion animals. This study, for the first time, reports the probiotic properties, safety, and whole-genome sequence of Pediococcus acidilactici GLP06 isolated from feces of beagles. In this study, candidate probiotic bacteria P. acidilactici GLP02 and GLP06 were morphologically characterized and tested for their antimicrobial capacity, tolerance to different conditions (low pH, bile salts, an artificial gastrointestinal model, and high temperature), antibiotic sensitivity, hemolytic activity, cell surface hydrophobicity, autoaggregation activity, and adhesion to Caco-2 cells. P. acidilactici GLP06 showed better probiotic potential. Therefore, P. acidilactici GLP06 was evaluated for in vivo safety in mice and whole-genome sequencing. The results showed, that the supplemented MG06 group (1010 cfu/mL), GLP06 was not only nontoxic to mice, but also promoted the development of the immune system, improved resistance to oxidative stress, and increased the diversity of intestinal microorganisms and the abundance of Lactobacillus. Whole-genome sequencing showed that P. acidilactici GLP06 was 2,014,515 bp and contained 1,976 coding sequences, accounting for 86.12% of the genome, with no drug resistance genes and eight CRISPR sequences. In conclusion, the newly isolated canine-derived P. acidilactici GLP06 had good probiotic potential, was nontoxic to mice and promoted the development of immune organs, improved the biodiversity of the intestinal flora, and had no risk of drug-resistant gene transfer, indicating that P. acidilactici GLP06 can be used as a potential probiotic for the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in companion animals.

Abstract
Depression is one of the most common psychiatric conditions, characterized by significant and persistent depressed mood and diminished interest, and often coexists with various comorbidities. The underlying mechanism of depression remain elusive, evidenced by the lack of an appreciate therapy. Recent abundant clinical trials and animal studies support the new notion that the gut microbiota has emerged as a novel actor in the pathophysiology of depression, which partakes in bidirectional communication between the gut and the brain through the neuroendocrine, nervous, and immune signaling pathways, collectively known as the microbiota-gut-brain (MGB) axis. Alterations in the gut microbiota can trigger the changes in neurotransmitters, neuroinflammation, and behaviors. With the transition of human microbiome research from studying associations to investigating mechanistic causality, the MGB axis has emerged as a novel therapeutic target in depression and its comorbidities. These novel insights have fueled idea that targeting on the gut microbiota may open new windows for efficient treatment of depression and its comorbidities. Probiotics, live beneficial microorganisms, can be used to modulate gut dysbiosis into a new eubiosis and modify the occurrence and development of depression and its comorbidities. In present review, we summarize recent findings regarding the MGB axis in depression and discuss the potential therapeutic effects of probiotics on depression and its comorbidities.

Abstract
Probiotics are currently the subject of intensive research pursuits and also represent a multi-billion-dollar global industry given their vast potential to improve human health. In addition, mental health represents a key domain of healthcare, which currently has limited, adverse-effect prone treatment options, and probiotics may hold the potential to be a novel, customizable treatment for depression. Clinical depression is a common, potentially debilitating condition that may be amenable to a precision psychiatry-based approach utilizing probiotics. Although our understanding has not yet reached a sufficient level, this could be a therapeutic approach that can be tailored for specific individuals with their own unique set of characteristics and health issues. Scientifically, the use of probiotics as a treatment for depression has a valid basis rooted in the microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA) mechanisms, which play a role in the pathophysiology of depression. In theory, probiotics appear to be ideal as adjunct therapeutics for major depressive disorder (MDD) and as stand-alone therapeutics for mild MDD and may potentially revolutionize the treatment of depressive disorders. Although there is a wide range of probiotics and an almost limitless range of therapeutic combinations, this review aims to narrow the focus to the most widely commercialized and studied strains, namely Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, and to bring together the arguments for their usage in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Clinicians, scientists, and industrialists are critical stakeholders in exploring this groundbreaking concept.

Abstract
Probiotics are live bacteria found in food that assist the body's defence mechanisms against pathogens by reconciling the gut microbiota. Probiotics are believed to aid with gut health, the immune system, and brain function, among other factors. They've furthermore been shown to help with constipation, high blood pressure, and skin issues. The global probiotics market has been incrementally growing in recent years, as consumers' demand for healthy diets and wellness has continued to increase. This has prompted the food industry to develop new probiotic-containing food products, as well as researchers to explore their specific characteristics and impacts on human health. Although most probiotics are fastidious microorganisms that are nutritionally demanding and sensitive to environmental conditions, they become less viable as they are processed and stored. In this review we studied the current literature on the fundamental idea of probiotic bacteria, their medical benefits, and their selection, characterization, and implementations. Graphical Abstract

Abstract
This study focuses on the development of functional probiotics using caroteonid-producing lactic acid bacteria (LAB) with antioxidant properties. Thirty LAB strains were evaluated for their probiotic properties. Carotenoid biosynthesis gene cluster (crtMN operon) was detected using polymer chain reaction (PCR). The carotenoid identified as 4,4'-diaponeurosporene was analyzed via UV visible absorption spectra and HPLC. Five carotenoid-producing strains showed antioxidant activities. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum MGB0112, which showed the highest carotenoid production measuring at 470 nm of absorbance per ml of culture broth (0.014 A470nm/ml), showed low pH (56.5%) and bile salt (97.8%) tolerance with high adhesion properties (55.1% for toluene). Furthermore, this strain and 4,4'-diaponeurosporene extract exhibited antioxidant activity (99.5 and 40.1%, respectively) against DPPH free radicals in vitro. Their antioxidant properties were confirmed in vivo (45.6 and 55.2% survival rates in Caenorhabditis elegans). Therefore, C30 carotenoid-producing strain MGB0112 demonstrates outstanding antioxidant effects and can be a potential functional probiotics.

Abstract
Blueberry extracts have been widely recognized as possessing antimicrobial activity against several potential pathogens. However, the contextualization of the interaction of these extracts with beneficial bacteria (i.e., probiotics), particularly when considering the food applications of these products, may be of importance, not only because their presence is important in the regular gut microbiota, but also because they are important constituents of regular and functional foodstuffs. Therefore, the present work first sought to demonstrate the inhibitory effect of a blueberry extract upon four potential food pathogens and, after identifying the active concentrations, evaluated their impact upon the growth and metabolic activity (organic acid production and sugar consumption) of five potential probiotic microorganisms. Results showed that the extract, at a concentration that inhibited L. monocytogenes, B. cereus, E. coli and S. enteritidis (1000 μg mL-1), had no inhibitory effect on the growth of the potential probiotic stains used. However, the results demonstrated, for the first time, that the extract had a significant impact on the metabolic activity of all probiotic strains, resulting in higher amounts of organic acid production (acetic, citric and lactic acids) and an earlier production of propionic acid.

Abstract
Traditional probiotics comprise mainly lactic acid bacteria that are safe for human use, tolerate acid and bile, and adhere to the epithelial lining and mucosal surfaces. In this study, one hundred commercial and non-commercial strains that were isolated from human feces or vaginal samples were tested with regards to overall growth in culture media, tolerance to acid and bile, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production, and adhesion to vaginal epithelial cells (VECs) and to blood group antigens. As a result, various of the tested lactobacilli strains were determined to be suitable for gastrointestinal or vaginal applications. Commercial strains grew better than the newly isolated strains, but tolerance to acid was a common property among all tested strains. Tolerance to bile varied considerably between the strains. Resistance to bile and acid correlated well, as did VEC adhesion and H2O2 production, but H2O2 production was not associated with resistance to bile or acid. Except for L. iners strains, vaginal isolates had better overall VEC adhesion and higher H2O2 production. Species- and strain-specific differences were evident for all parameters. Rank-ordered clustering with nine clusters was used to identify strains that were suitable for gastrointestinal or vaginal health, demonstrating that the categorization of strains for targeted health indications is possible based on the parameters that were measured in this study.

Abstract
The important role of the immune system in treating cancer has attracted the attention of researchers to the emergence of oncology research. Immunotherapy has shown that the immune system is important in the fight against cancer. The challenge has led researchers to analyze the impact of immunotherapy on improving the status of the immune system, modifying the resulting safety response, reducing toxicity, and improving the results. This study aimed to discuss the potential mechanisms of probiotics in preventing colon cancer. The mechanisms include the change in intestinal microbiota, the metabolic activity of microbiota, the binding and degradation of the carcinogenic compounds present in the lumen of the intestine, the production of compounds with anticancer activity, immune system modification, intestinal dysfunction, changes in host physiology, and inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis in cancerous cells. By contrast, very few reports have shown the harmful effects of oral probiotic supplements. According to available evidence, further studies on probiotics are needed, especially in identifying bacterial species with anticancer potential, studying the survival of the strains after passing the digestive tract, reviewing potential side effects in people with a weak immune system, and ultimately consuming and repeating its use. This study emphasizes that the nutritional formula can modulate inflammatory and immune responses in cancer patients. This effect reduces acute toxicity, although the pathways and measurement of this immune response are unclear. Nutrition safety is an emerging field in oncology, and further research is required.

Abstract
Consumers worldwide are increasingly demanding food with fewer ingredients, preferably without chemical additives. The trend called "Clean Label" has stimulated the development and commercialization of new types of bioprotective bacterial cultures. These bacteria are not considered new, and several cultures have been available on the market. Additionally, new bioprotective bacteria are being identified to service the clean label trend, extend the shelf life, and, mainly, improve the food safety of food. In this context, the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have been extensively prospected as a bioprotective culture, as they have a long history in food production and their antimicrobial activity against spoilage and pathogenic microorganisms is well established. However, to make LAB cultures available in the market is not that easy, the strains should be characterized phenotypically and genotypically, and studies of safety and technological application are necessary to validate their bioprotection performance. Thus, this review presents information on the bioprotection mechanisms developed by LAB in foods and describes the main strategies used to identify and characterize bioprotective LAB with potential application in the food industry.

Abstract
This research is aimed to search for suitable probiotic plus prebiotic combinations for food applications. Sixteen bacteria were tested for resistance to low pH, bile salts and antibiotics, and their adhesion to Caco-2 cells, in order to select potential probiotics. Then, two bacteria were selected to study short chain fatty acids production in a starch-based soluble corn fiber or inulin media. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum V3 and L. acidophilus La3 manifested the best probiotic features with a remarkable adhesion ability (23.9% and 17.3%, respectively). Structural differences between fibers have an impact on how each one is metabolized, both in their capacity of being easily fermented and in the short chain fatty acids profile obtained: L. acidophilus La3 in inulin fermentation yielded the highest total short chain fatty acids (85.7 mMol/L), and, in starch-based soluble corn fiber fermentation, yielded the highest butyric acid content (0.31 mMol/L). This study provides valuable information for future design of synbiotics for food applications.

Abstract
Members of the oral mitis group streptococci including Streptococcus oralis, Streptococcus sanguinis, and Streptococcus gordonii are the most abundant inhabitants of human oral cavity and dental plaque, and have been implicated in infectious complications such as bacteremia and infective endocarditis. Oral mitis group streptococci are genetically close to Streptococcus pneumoniae; however, they do not produce cytolysin (pneumolysin), which is a key virulence factor of S. pneumoniae. Similar to S. pneumoniae, oral mitis group streptococci possess several cell surface proteins that bind to the cell surface components of host mammalian cells. S. sanguinis expresses long filamentous pili that bind to the matrix proteins of host cells. The cell wall-anchored nuclease of S. sanguinis contributes to the evasion of the neutrophil extracellular trap by digesting its web-like extracellular DNA. Oral mitis group streptococci produce glucosyltransferases, which synthesize glucan (glucose polymer) from sucrose of dietary origin. Neuraminidase (NA) is a virulent factor in oral mitis group streptococci. Influenza type A virus (IAV) relies on viral NA activity to release progeny viruses from infected cells and spread the infection, and NA-producing oral streptococci elevate the risk of IAV infection. Moreover, oral mitis group streptococci produce hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) as a by-product of sugar metabolism. Although the concentrations of streptococcal H2 O2 are low (1-2 mM), they play important roles in bacterial competition in the oral cavity and evasion of phagocytosis by host macrophages and neutrophils. In this review, we intended to describe the diverse pathogenicity of oral mitis group streptococci.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer death worldwide. It is usually the result of pre-existing liver damage caused by hepatitis B and/or C virus infection, alcohol consumption, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), aflatoxin exposure, liver cirrhosis, obesity, and diabetes. A growing body of evidence suggests that gut microbes have a role in cancer genesis. More research into the microbiome gut-liver axis has recently contributed to understanding how the gut microbiome facilitates liver disease or even HCC progression. This review focuses on the preclinical results of gut-related hepatocarcinogenesis and probiotics, prebiotics, and antibiotics as therapeutic interventions to maintain gut microbial flora and minimize HCC-associated symptoms. Understanding the mechanistic link between the gut microbiota, host, and cancer progression could aid us in elucidating the cancer-related pathways and drive us toward preventing HCC-associated gut microbiota dysbiosis.

Abstract
In this study, we screened eight commercially available brands of Lactobacillus-containing probiotic preparations and dietary supplements for resistance towards commonly administered antibiotics of different classes. According to disc diffusion results, most of the isolates were resistant to vancomycin and susceptible to penicillin-type antibiotics (ampicillin and amoxicillin), carbapenems (imipenem, meropenem, and ertapenem), and inhibitors of protein synthesis (chloramphenicol, erythromycin, tetracycline, clarithromycin, and linezolid). However, based on minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values, six strains were reconsidered as resistant to tetracycline. All tested lactobacilli were resistant towards amikacin, ciprofloxacin, and norfloxacin. Resistance to cephalosporins was highly variable and decreased in the following order: ceftazidime/cefepime, ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, cefazolin, and cefoperazone. PCR screening for antibiotic resistance determinants in probiotic lactobacilli revealed a wide occurrence of vancomycin resistance gene vanX, ciprofloxacin resistance gene parC, and extended-spectrum β-lactamase gene blaTEM. We also detected the tetK gene for tetracycline resistance in one isolate. Additionally, we identified discrepancies between the claims of the manufacturers and the identified species composition, as well as the enumerated amount of viable bacteria, for several products. The results of this study raise concerns about the safety of lactobacilli for human consumption as probiotics, as they may act as reservoirs of transferable antibiotic resistance genes.

Abstract
Lactic acid bacteria are representative probiotics that have beneficial effects on humans. Nineteen strains among the 167 single strains from kimchi was selected and their physiological features were investigated. The selection of a strain was based on strong enzyme (lipase, α-amylase, and α-glucosidase) inhibitory activities and anti-obesity effects in the adipocytes. For the final selection, the strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KC3 was tested for its potential as a starter. To assess its functionality, a freeze-dried culture of L. plantarum KC3 was administered to a diet-induced obese mouse model receiving a high-fat diet. The animal group administered with L. plantarum KC3 showed significant body weight loss during the 12-week feeding period compared to the high-fat control group. This study investigated the physiological characteristics of selected strain and evaluated its potential as an anti-obesity probiotic in mice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are the most common birth defects. Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in premature infants, and probiotics can be used to protect NEC. CASE REPORT We present a term infant with aortic coarctation who developed sepsis with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG after probiotic use, successfully treated with ampicillin. The baby unfortunately died of acute cardiac arrest on the 90th day of life. CONCLUSION Probiotic-associated sepsis may develop in infants with various risk factors such as central catheterization, long-term mechanical ventilation and in those at risk for NEC.

Abstract
The therapeutic modulation of the gut microbiome has been suggested to be one of the tools in the integrated management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in recent years. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium genera are the two most commonly used probiotics strains. Most of the probiotics used in studies are mixed formulation. There is no consensus on the dose and duration of the probiotic administration for CKD patients Increasing evidence indicates that patients with early stage (1-2) CKD have an altered quantitative and qualitative microbiota profile. However, there was a dearth of prospective controlled studies on the use of probiotics in the early stage of the CKD population. The association between gut microbiota disturbance and advanced CKD was reported. Most randomized controlled trials on probiotic treatment used in CKD stage 3-5ND patients reported positive results. The metabolites of abnormal gut microbiota are directly involved in the pathogenetic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and inflammation. We summarized 13 studies performed in the dialysis population, including 10 in hemodialysis (HD) patients and 3 in peritoneal dialysis (PD). Some controversial results were concluded on the decreasing plasma concentration of uremic toxin, symptoms, inflammation, and cardiovascular risk. Only three randomized controlled trials on PD were reported to show the potential beneficial effects of probiotics on inflammation, uremic toxins and gastrointestinal symptoms. There is still no standard in the dosage and duration of the use of probiotics in CKD patients. Overall, the probiotic administration may have potential benefit in improving symptoms and quality of life, reducing inflammation, and delaying the progression of kidney failure. Further research studies using a larger sample size with longer follow-up durations and a greater focus on clinical outcomes-including survival-are warranted to elucidate the significant clinical impact of the use of probiotics in CKD patients.

Abstract
Over the last decade, chronic inflammatory enteropathies (CIE) in dogs have received great attention in the basic and clinical research arena. The 2010 ACVIM Consensus Statement, including guidelines for the diagnostic criteria for canine and feline CIE, was an important milestone to a more standardized approach to patients suspected of a CIE diagnosis. Great strides have been made since understanding the pathogenesis and classification of CIE in dogs, and novel diagnostic and treatment options have evolved. New concepts in the microbiome-host-interaction, metabolic pathways, crosstalk within the mucosal immune system, and extension to the gut-brain axis have emerged. Novel diagnostics have been developed, the clinical utility of which remains to be critically evaluated in the next coming years. New directions are also expected to lead to a larger spectrum of treatment options tailored to the individual patient. This review offers insights into emerging concepts and future directions proposed for further CIE research in dogs for the next decade to come.

Abstract
Encapsulation is a process in which a base material is encapsulated in a wall material that can protect it against external factors and/or improve its bioavailability. Among the different encapsulation techniques, ionic gelation stands out as being useful for thermolabile compounds. The aim of this work was to encapsulate Saccharomyces boulardii by ionic gelation using agavins (A) and whey protein (WP) as wall materials and to evaluate the morphostructural changes that occur during in vitro gastrointestinal digestion. Encapsulations at different levels of A and WP were analyzed using microscopic, spectroscopic and thermal techniques. Encapsulation efficiency and cell viability were evaluated. S. boulardii encapsulated at 5% A: 3.75% WP (AWB6) showed 88.5% cell survival after the simulated gastrointestinal digestion; the bead showed a significantly different microstructure from the controls. The mixture of A and WP increased in the survival of S. boulardii respect to those encapsulated with alginate, A or WP alone. The binary material mixture simultaneously allowed a controlled release of S. boulardii by mostly diffusive Fickian mechanisms and swelling. The cell-release time was found to control the increment of the Damköhler number when A and WP were substrates for S. boulardii, in this way allowing greater protection against gastrointestinal conditions.

Abstract
In this study, the fermentation of Artemisia capillaris by probiotic Leuconostoc mesenteroides MKJW (MKJW) was optimized to increase the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) inhibitory and antioxidant activities using the response surface method (RSM). The independent variables were the contents of A. capillaris, Gryllus bimaculatus, and yeast extract, while the dependent variables were AChE inhibitory activity, BuChE inhibitory activity, and antioxidant activities such as FRAP, reducing power, and DPPH radical scavenging ability. Seventeen experimental runs were designed with RSM and analyzed after fermentation with MKJW. Quadratic models were used to analyze the inhibition of AChE and BuChE, and a linear model was used to analyze the FRAP. The three models were significantly appropriate (p < 0.0001). The highest optimal condition of the AChE inhibitory activity was derived by a multiple regression equation. When the optimum fermentation conditions were A. capillaris 6.75%, G. bimaculatus 0.18%, and yeast extract 1.27%, 91.1% was reached for AChE inhibitory, 74.0% for BuChE inhibitory, and 34.1 mM FeSO4 for FRAP. The predicted dependent variables were not significantly different from the experimental values (p > 0.05). In conclusion, the A. capillaris fermented by MKJW might be used as a natural antidementia improving agent with AChE inhibitory, BuChE inhibitory, and antioxidant activities.

Abstract
This paper describes a simple strategy to identify bacteria using the optical properties of the nanohybrid structures (NHs) of polymer-coated metal nanoparticles (NPs). NHs, in which many small NPs are encapsulated in polyaniline particles, are useful optical labels because they produce strong scattered light. The light-scattering characteristics of NHs are strongly dependent on the constituent metal elements of NPs. Gold NHs (AuNHs), silver NHs (AgNHs), and copper NHs (CuNHs) produce white, reddish, and bluish scattered light, respectively. Moreover, unlike NPs, the color of the scattered light does not change even when NHs are aggregated. Introducing an antibody into NHs induces antigen-specific binding to cells, enabling the identification of bacteria based on light scattering. Multiple bacterial species adsorbed on the slide can be identified within a single field of view under a dark field microscope based on the color of the scattered light. Therefore, it is a useful development for safety risk assessments at manufacturing sites, such as those for foods, beverages, and drugs, and environmental surveys that require rapid detection of multiple bacteria.

Abstract
Dahi is a very common and traditional fermented dairy product in Pakistan and its neighboring countries, it represents a rich source for the isolation of many new strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The major objective of this study was to evaluate the probiotic potential of novel exopolysaccharide (EPS)-producing strains of S. thermophilus isolated from Dahi, sold in the local markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Pakistan. In this study, 32 isolates of S. thermophilus were initially isolated from Dahi and out of these, 10 identified strains were further screened for their EPS-producing ability. Maximum EPS production was estimated for RIY strain (133.0 ± 0.06), followed by RIH4 strain (103.83 ± 0.76) and RIRT2 strain (95.77 ± 0.22), respectively. Thereafter, in vitro studies revealed that these newly identified EPS-producing strains of S. thermophilus fulfilled the basic requirements for probiotic functions; including resistance to harsh conditions of GIT, good cell surface hydrophobicity, auto-aggregation, and co-aggregation, especially against L. monocytogenes. Finally, the safety assessment displayed that these strains were also sensitive to clinical antibiotics, including vancomycin. Thus, these selected EPS strains of S. thermophilus act as potential candidates for biostabilizers in the preparation of consumer-friendly fermented probiotic milk products.

Abstract
The mainly aim of this study was to use mucilaginous solutions obtained from tamarind, mutamba, cassia tora, psyllium and konjac powdered to encapsulate reuterin-producing Limosilactobacillus reuteri in alginate beads by extrusion technique. In the particles were determined the bacterial encapsulation efficiency, cell viability during storage and survival under simulated gastric and intestinal conditions. Moreover, the reuterin production, its entrapment into the beads and the influence on viability of encapsulated microorganism were evaluated. Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy were employed to characterize the produced particles. The beads showed a relatively spherical shape with homogenous distribution of L. reuteri. The use of gums and mucilages combined with alginate improved the encapsulation efficiency (from 93.2 to 97.4%), the viability of encapsulated bacteria during refrigerated storage (especially in prolonged storage of 20, 30 and 60 days) and the survival after exposure to gastric and enteric environments (from 67.7 to 76.6%). The L. reuteri was able to produce reuterin via bioconversion of glycerol in the film-forming solutions, and the entrapment of the metabolite was improved using konjac, mutamba and tamarind mucilaginous solutions in the encapsulation process (45, 44.57 and 41.25%, respectively). Thus, our findings confirm the great potential of these hydrocolloids to different further purposes, enabling its application as support material for delivery of chemical or biological compounds.

Abstract
Introduction: Angiogenesis (neovascularization), which means new vessel construction, is normal and physiologically, wound healing, embryogenesis, a necessary menstrual cycle it's a mechanism. When taken in appropriate amounts together with or separately with nutrients, mucosal and by regulating systemic immunity, ensuring nutritional and microbial balance in the intestines living nonpatogenic microorganisms that positively affect the health of the host it is called "probiotics". Lactic acid bacteria, the most probiotic microorganisms it constitutes its important group. Where probiotics have an effect on angiogenesis, and it is thought to help heal wounds through the road. With this research indicated that roles of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus rhamnosus on angiogenesis if present to demonstrate in vitro methods and the gene expression responsible for the formation of these effects it is intended to reveal.
Material and Method: This study is an experimental study conducted in vitro human umbilical cord vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) MTT test in cell culture with (3-[4,5-Dimethylthiazole-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide; Thiazolyl blue) evaluation of viability and proliferation wound healing model, tube formation method and gene expression with real rime-polymer chain reaction (RT-PCR) methods of appointment were used.
Results: HUVEC cells L. acidophilus 10⁹ CFU\ml after extract application statistical of mRNA expression of VEGF and FGF genes by control group 24 per hour it was found to increase significantly. L. rhamnosus 10 6 CFU\ml and 109 CFU\ml after application of extracts VEGF gene mRNA by control group 24 per hour its expression was found to be statistically significantly increased. Also L. rhamnosus extracts cell proliferation and migration of in vitro wound model it was found to increase statistically significantly.
Conclusion: In this study, in vitro L. acidophilus 10⁹ CFU\ml extract and 10⁶ CFU\ml and 10⁹ CFU\ml extract of L. rhamnosus, VEGF gene mRNA revealed to be effective on angiogenesis in HUVEC cells by increasing expression it is.
