Abstract
Green resources for lithium-based batteries excite many researchers due to their eco-friendly nature. In this work, a sustainable bio-based solid-state electrolyte was developed based on carbonated soybean oil (CSBO), obtained by organocatalyzed coupling of CO2 to epoxidized soybean oil. CSBO coupled with lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide salt on a bio-based cellulose separator resulted in free-standing membranes. Those membranes on electrochemical measurements exhibited ionic conductivity of around 10-3 S cm-1 at 100 °C and around 10-6 S cm-1 at room temperature with wide electrochemical stability window (up to 4.6 V vs. Li/Li+ ) and transference number up to 0.39 at RT. Further investigations on the galvanostatic charge-discharge of LiFePO4 cathodes with CSBO-based electrolyte membranes and lithium metal anodes delivered the gravimetric capacity of 112 and 157 mAh g-1 at RT and 60 °C, respectively, providing a promising direction to further develop bio-based solid electrolytes for sustainable solid-state lithium batteries.

Abstract
This work was aimed to systematically assess the effect of diverse emulsification strategies, i.e., layer-by-layer (LbL), directly mixing (DM), and heteroaggregation (HA) assemblies on electrospinnability of emulsions stabilized by gum Arabic (GA)-whey protein isolate (WPI) blend and their subsequence potential in β-carotene (BC) encapsulation. The designed BC emulsions were characterized in terms of zeta-potential, droplet size, and rheological properties. According to the results, LbL-formulated emulsions possessed the highest zeta-potential; however, HA-produced ones appeared to be more viscous among all emulsions. Properties of electrospun nanofibers varied considerably relying on either the emulsification strategy or the oil phase volume fraction as confirmed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and fourier transform infrared specroscopy (FTIR). It was found that the resulting nanofibers produced by LbL and HA emulsification guaranteed higher BC encapsulation efficiency (>90%), in comparison to that of DM-engineered samples offering a lower efficiency of ∼71 %. The storage stability of BC emulsions stabilized with WPI-GA blend was in the order of LbL > HA > DM emulsions. Most importantly, the application of LbL assembly exhibited the most thermally/physicochemically stable carotenoid-comprising nanofibers among all studied mixing techniques. These results offer useful information for applications of different emulsification strategies for fabricating BC-loaded nanofibers via emulsion electrospining technique.

Abstract
Orthodontic chains are one of the main parts of orthodontic braces. In this study, in order to obtain a suitable polymer for this application as well as troubleshoot the main drawbacks such as stress relaxation and water absorption, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) elastomers with various compositions were synthesized and characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. Mechanical properties of samples were evaluated by tensile, elasticity, and stress relaxation tests. According to the required properties for orthodontic chain application, PU2000-311 which contains reversible crosslinks, was selected as the most favorable sample among other pure samples. Moreover, to reduce the water absorption content of PU2000-311, its nanocomposite containing 1 wt% of silica nanoparticles was prepared via solution casting method. As water content angle and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images illustrate, incorporation of 1 wt% of modified silica nanoparticles has increased PU2000-311-1S hydrophobicity. In vitro oral environment study showed crystability of samples has recovered great portion of relaxed force. Stress relaxation study indicated samples are applicable in oral temperature range and temperature changes have assisted recovery of relaxed force and reduced treatment period. Finally, shape memory study showed that optimum samples could recover 100% of their original shape.

Abstract
Nanoparticles (NPs) and multifunctional nano-sized materials have significant applications in diverse fields, namely catalysis, sensors, optics, solar energy conversion, cancer therapy/diagnosis, and bioimaging. Trimetallic NPs have found unique catalytic, active food packaging, biomedical, antimicrobial, and sensing applications; they preserve an ever-superior level of catalytic activities and selectivity compared to monometallic and bimetallic nanomaterials. Due to these important applications, a variety of preparation routes, including hydrothermal, microemulsion, selective catalytic reduction, co-precipitation, and microwave-assisted methodologies have been reported for the syntheses of these nanomaterials. As the fabrication of nanomaterials using physicochemical methods often have hazardous and toxic impacts on the environment, there is a vital need to design innovative and well-organized eco-friendly, sustainable, and greener synthetic protocols for their assembly, by applying safer, renewable, and inexpensive materials. In this review, noteworthy recent advancements relating to the applications of trimetallic NPs and nanocomposites comprising these NPs are underscored as well as their eco-friendly and sustainable synthetic preparative options.

Abstract
The processing and characterization of hybrid PMMA resin composites with nano-zirconia (ZrO2) and electrospun polystyrene (PS) polymer fibers were presented in this study. Reinforcement was selected with the intention to tune the physical and mechanical properties of the hybrid composite. Surface modification of inorganic particles was performed in order to improve the adhesion of reinforcement to the matrix. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) provided successful modification of zirconia nanoparticles with 3-Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MEMO) and bonding improvement between incompatible inorganic nanoparticles and PMMA matrix. Considerable deagglomeration of nanoparticles in the matrix occurred after the modification has been revealed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Microhardness increased with the concentration of modified nanoparticles, while the fibers were the modifier that lowers hardness and promotes toughness of hybrid composites. Impact test displayed increased absorbed energy after the PS electrospun fibers had been embedded. The optimized composition of the hybrid was determined and a good balance of thermal and mechanical properties was achieved.

Abstract
Nanocomposite coatings with synergistic properties hold a potential in long-term corrosion protection for carbon steel. Polydiphenylamine (PDPA) and vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) have rarely been used as a corrosion inhibitor. Moreover, oleo polyurethanes are always demanded in the field of anticorrosive coatings. In view of this, we have synthesized safflower oil polyurethane (SFPU) and their nanocomposites using V2O5-enwrapped PDPA (V2O5-PDPA) as nanofiller. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis were used to characterize the structural, morphological, and thermal properties of these coatings. Corrosion resistance performance of these coatings in 5 wt % NaCl solution was determined by electrochemical measurements and salt spray tests. These studies exhibited very low Icorr (7.45 × 10-11 A cm-2), high Ecorr (-0.04 V), impedance (1.69 × 1011 Ω cm2), and phase angle (84°) after the exposure of 30 days. An immersion test, in 1 M H2SO4 solution for 24 h, was also performed to investigate the effect of oxidizing acid on the surface of coatings. These results revealed the superior anticorrosive activity of nanocomposite coatings compared to those of plain SFPU and other such reported systems. The superior anticorrosive property of the proposed nanocomposite coatings provides a new horizon in the development of high-performance anticorrosive coatings for various industries.

Synthesis of graphenized Au/ZnO plasmonic nanocomposites for simultaneous sunlight mediated photo-catalysis and anti-microbial activity. JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2018; 347:378-389. [PMID: 29407847 DOI: 10.1016/j.jhazmat.2017.12.034] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 09/14/2017] [Revised: 12/11/2017] [Accepted: 12/12/2017] [Indexed: 06/07/2023]
Abstract
Sunlight mediated photo-degradation and anti-bacterial activity of hetero junctioned plasmonic binary (Au/ZnO, RGO/ZnO) and ternary (RGO/Au/ZnO) nanocomposites (NC) have been reported. Higher photo-charge carrier generation, increased charge separation, improved active sites for catalysis, enhanced LSPR and larger photo-response regions have been achieved. Decoration with Au nanoparticles (ca. 11 ± 3 and 48 ± 5 nm) and RGO of ZnO (3D/1D) microstructures (aspect ratio 15.18) provides ternary NCs an edge over mono/bi component catalysts. The ternary NC have shown improved dye degradation capacity with 100% efficiency (5 μM MB solution) and average adsorption degradation capacity (Q°) of 83.34 mg/g within 30 min of sunlight exposure (900 ± 30 Wm-2). Elaborated studies by varying reaction parameters like initial dye concentration, contact time, type of NCs and initial loading of NCs reveals pseudo first order degradation kinetics. 100% microbial killing of Gram positive S.aureus strain with 60 μg/ml of NC using sunlight as activator has proven the simultaneous multiple functionality of the NC. Further, facile green one pot hydrothermal synthesis with water as reaction medium, absence of photo-corrosion of NCs, regeneration ability (ca. 90% for 10 μM solution) of NCs, projects a broader potential application of the synthesized NCs and could reduce the continuous requirement of such material, limiting the environmental toxicity.
