Abstract
The development of intelligent, sensitive, and visual methods for the rapid detection of veterinary drug residues is essential to ensure food quality and safety. Here, a smartphone-based dual inverse signal MOFs fluorescence sensing system was proposed for intelligent in-site visual detection of malachite green (MG). A UiO-66-NH2@RhB-dual-emission fluorescent probe was successfully synthesized in one step using a simple one-pot method. The inner filter effect (IFE) quenches the red fluorescence, while hydrogen bonding interaction enhances the blue fluorescence, enabling highly sensitive, accurate, and visual detection of MG dual inverse signals through fluorescence analysis. The probe showed great linearity over a wide range of 0.1-100 μmol/L, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 20 nmol/L. By integrating smartphone photography and RGB (red, green, and blue) analysis, accurate quantitative analysis of MG in water and actual fish samples can be achieved within 5 min. This developed platform holds great promise for the on-site detection of MG in practical applications, with the advantages of simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and rapidity. Consequently, it may open up a new pathway for on-site evaluation of food safety and environmental health.

Abstract
Aniline is an organic pollutant with carcinogenicity and teratogenicity, while F- and Hg2+ are toxic ions that are easily soluble in water. When they are released to the environment, they will pose a threat to human health. Designing a material that can simultaneously detect three types of pollutants is of great significance. In this paper, a novel rare earth metal organic framework material (Eu-MOF) with three-dimensional structure based on 1-methylimidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid was synthesized for the first time through solvent thermal method. It has excellent luminescent performance and can be used as a multifunctional fluorescent probe to detect aniline, F-, and Hg2+ based on photoinduced electron transfer, energy competitive absorption, and ion exchange mechanisms, with detection limits of 1.79 × 10-8, 8.13 × 10-8, and 8.83 × 10-7 M, respectively. It is worth noting that Eu-MOF can detect F- and Hg2+ in real water samples, such as lake water and green tea water, with favorable recovery rates.

Abstract
As large numbers of people are suffering from gout, an accurate, rapid, and sensitive method for the detection of gout biomarker, uric acid, is important for its effective control, diagnosis, and therapy. Although colorimetric detection methods based on uricase have been considered, they still have limitations as they produce toxic H2O2 and are expensive and not stable. Here, a novel uricase-free colorimetric method was developed for the sensitive and selective detection of uric acid based on the light-induced oxidase-mimicking activity of a new photosensitized covalent organic framework (COF) (2,4,6-trimethylpyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile-4-[2-(4-formylphenyl)ethynyl]benzaldehyde COF [DCTP-EDA COF]). DCTP-EDA COF has a strong ability to harvest visible light, and it could catalyze the oxidation of 1,4-dioxane, 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine under visible light irradiation to produce obvious color changes. With the addition of uric acid, however, the significant inhibition of the oxidase-mimicking activity of DCTP-EDA COF remarkably faded the color, and thus uric acid could be colorimetrically detected in the range of 2.0-150 μM with a limit of detection of 0.62 μM (3σ/K). Moreover, the present colorimetric method exhibited high selectivity; uric acid level in serum samples was successfully determined, and the recoveries ranged from 96.5% to 105.64%, suggesting the high accuracy of the present colorimetric method, which demonstrates great promise in clinical analysis.

Abstract
A europium-functionalized, dual-emissive, metal-organic framework-based fluorescence sensor (EuUCNDA) was constructed via post-synthetic modification of an UiO-66-type precursor through coordination interactions. EuUCNDA exhibited extremely high selectivity and sensitivity for malachite green (MG) with a low detection limit of 13.01 nM, a wide linear concentration range (0.05-50 μM), excellent anti-interference properties, a rapid response (<1 min), and the possibility of recycling. The good sensing performance of EuUCNDA enables the practical detection of MG in fish pond water and grass carp with good recoveries. Moreover, EuUCNDA can be reused for sensing MG and over 90% of fluorescence intensity can be restored after 7 cycles. Furthermore, EuUCNDA-embedded paper-based sensors combined with smartphone imaging afford portable and visual monitoring of MG in real samples. Notably, besides good sensing performance, EuUCNDA could efficiently remove MG from water. Hence, this work provides a recyclable and sensitive fluorescence sensor for portable, visual, rapid detection and efficient removal of MG.

Abstract
Monitoring the levels of uric acid (UA) in body fluids is of great significance in the clinical diagnosis and therapy of related diseases. Herein, a novel nanocomposite R6G@Fe-MOF based nonenzymatic probe is presented to provide a ratiometric fluorescent, colorimetric, and photothermal triple read-out signal for the visual, sensitive, and convenient assay of UA. The framework structure of the in situ encapsulated R6G@Fe-MOF is found to decompose upon the addition of UA, resulting in the reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+. This reduction will lead to a rapid increase in fluorescence emission (FL) at 430 nm. Simultaneously, the FL at 573 nm will decrease remarkably due to the inner filter effect (IFE) between UA and R6G@Fe-MOF. Furthermore, the reaction of the generated Fe2+ with potassium ferricyanide (K3 [Fe(CN)6]) can in situ generate Prussian blue (PBNPs) with outstanding color and photothermal properties, which allow for easy colorimetric and photothermal signal readout. The detection limits (LOD) for the colorimetric, fluorometric and photothermal detection are low at 1.68 μM, 0.236 μM, and 1.32 μM respectively. Ultimately, it is successfully employed to determine UA in urine, serum, and saliva, yielding satisfactory results. The constructed R6G@Fe-MOF sensor provides a simple, sensitive, and accurate determination of UA that can be tailored to meet the needs of various applications, and also provides new perspectives for the design and development of versatile sensors for diverse uses.

Abstract
Uric acid (UA) is produced from purine metabolism and serves as a prevalent biomarker for multiple diseases including cancer. Hyperuricemia or hypouricemia can cause multiple dysfunctions throughout the biological processes. Consequently, there is a pressing need for monitoring UA concentration in body fluid. While clinical methods are known, the availability of a point-of-care testing (PoCT) kit remains conspicuously absent. In the case of electrochemical recognition of UA, the oxidation potential of ascorbic acid closely aligns with that of UA and thus it hinders the detection process, which eventually may result in false positive signals. Several chemosensors are known in the field of supramolecular chemistry, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are one of the best-performing contenders due to their robustness, stability, and versatile structures. In this review, we tried to unbox the up-to-date development of UA sensing by MOFs. We delve into the state of UA recognition by MOFs, exploring both electrochemical and fluorometric pathways and drawing comparisons with structurally similar probes like covalent organic frameworks (COFs) to understand/establish the advantages of MOFs specifically in UA sensing. In the absence of a PoCT kit, we have provided the conceptual outlook for designing a PoCT device termed a "Urimeter" via electrochemical operation. For the first time, we have proposed different methods of how UA sensing can be tied up with artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI-ML).

Abstract
Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) with exceptional optical performance and structural diversity offer a unique platform for the development of luminescent materials. However, Ln-MOFs often suffer from luminescence quenching by high-vibrating oscillators, especially in aqueous solution. Thus, multiple strategies have been adopted to improve the luminescence of Ln3+. Anomalous research about water-induced lanthanide luminescence enhancement of Ln-MOFs is in the primary stage. Here, two Eu-based metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF) isomers named QXBA-Eu-1 and QXBA-Eu-2 were constructed by using the same ligand under different solvent thermal conditions, which exhibited distinctive water- and methanol-boosting emission behaviors. As for QXBA-Eu-1, water and methanol molecules replaced the free N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA) molecules in the framework, repressed the rotation or libration suppression of the QXBA linker, and formed hydrogen bonds with the coordinated water molecules, which suppressed the O-H high-energy vibrations, reduced nonradiative transitions, stabilized the T1 state, and facilitated the intersystem crossing (ISC) process. For QXBA-Eu-2, water molecules tended to replace the coordinated DMA ligands, which altered the S1 and T1 energy levels of the ligand and facilitated the ligand-to-metal energy transfer (LMET) process and strengthened the luminescence of Eu3+. Importantly, free solvent molecules and the hydroxylation of Eu3+ centers also restrained the rotation or libration of the QXBA linker, by which the nonradiative transition was further inhibited and the lanthanide luminescence enhanced. Thus, this work not only opened an unprecedented path to enhance lanthanide luminescence in aqueous solution but also expanded its application scope.

Abstract
5SO3H-8-hydroxyquinoline coordinated to Europium (Eu-5SO3-HQ) was incorporated in biomembrane models using Langmuir monolayers. Dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and dipalmitoyl phosphatidylserine (DPPS) were employed, representing mammalian cells and dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide (DODAB) as a positively charged lipid to study the contrast with negatively charged lipids. Tensiometric, rheological and spectroscopic techniques were employed to characterize Eu-5SO3-HQ- lipid monolayer interactions. The complex condenses all the monolayer indicating interactions with the lipids' polar heads, but with distinctive effects on the mechanical and rheological properties. While the complex decreases the compression and elastic moduli of DPPC and DPPS monolayers, it increases for DODAB, also decreasing its lateral viscosity. Infrared spectroscopy shows that the interaction of Eu-5-SO3-HQ alters the ordering of the lipids' alkyl chains, impacting the monolayer's molecular packing. These results show that the interaction of Eu-5SO3-HQ with lipid monolayers at the air-water is modulated by the composition of the polar head, which can be supportive in the preparation of nanodevices for molecular probing.

Platinum nanoparticles confined in metal-organic frameworks as excellent peroxidase-like nanozymes for detection of uric acid. Anal Bioanal Chem 2023; 415:649-658. Abstract
High levels of uric acid (UA) in humans can cause a range of diseases, and traditional assays that rely on uric acid enzymes to break down uric acid are limited by the inherent deficiencies of natural enzymes. Fortunately, the rapid development of nanozymes in recent years is expected to solve the above-mentioned problems. Hence, we used a host-guest strategy to synthesize a platinum nanoparticle confined in a metal-organic framework (Pt NPs@ZIF) that can sensitively detect UA levels in human serum. Unlike previously reported free radical-catalyzed oxidation systems, its unique electron transfer mechanism confers excellent peroxidase-like activity to Pt NPs@ZIF. In addition, UA can selectively inhibit the chromogenic reaction of TMB, thus reducing the absorbance of the system. Therefore, using the peroxidase-like activity of Pt NPs@ZIF and using TMB as a chromogenic substrate, UA can be detected directly without relying on natural enzymes. The results showed a relatively wide detection range (10-1000 μM) and a low detection limit (0.2 μM). Satisfactory results were also obtained for UA in human serum. This study with simple operation and rapid detection offers a promising method for efficiently detecting UA in serum.

Abstract
The contamination of tetracycline antibiotics and dihydrogen phosphate (H2PO4−) in food and the environment is one of the major concerns for human health. Herein, a water-stable carboxyl-functionalized europium metal–organic framework (Eu-MOF) was prepared and demonstrated, for the first time, as a dual-responsive fluorescent sensor of tetracycline antibiotics (oxytetracycline (OTC), tetracycline (TC), and doxycycline (DOX)) and H2PO4−via fluorescent turn-on and turn-off, respectively. Eu-MOF presents a sensitive and selective detection of OTC with a rapid response time (1 min) and good anti-interference ability. The limits of detection (LODs) of 78 nm, 225 nm, and 201 nM were achieved for OTC, TC, and DOX, respectively. Coordination and hydrogen bonding led to energy and electron transfer from the TC to the MOF, contributing to the fluorescent enhancement mechanism. Moreover, Eu-MOF can effectively detect H2PO4−via fluorescence turn-off with a LOD of 0.70 μM. The interactions between H2PO4− and MOF interrupt the energy transfer from ligand to MOF, leading to fluorescence quenching. In addition, Eu-MOF was successfully applied to determine OTC and H2PO4− in real samples, obtaining satisfactory recoveries and RSDs. More fascinating, Eu-MOF could be utilized to develop latent fingerprints on various surfaces, providing well-defined fluorescent fingerprint details in which the sweat pores can be seen with the naked eye. Water-stable Eu-MOF as a fluorescent probe for detecting tetracycline antibiotics and dihydrogen phosphate in real samples and visualization of latent fingerprints.![]()

Abstract
RhB@ZrT-1-OH composite was constructed by introduction of Rhodamine B (RhB) into the cages of zirconium-based metal-organic cage that had two fluorescence emission peaks at 466 and 612 nm upon excitation at 327 nm. The dual-emission fluorescence sensor exhibits ultra-high sensitive detection for malachite green (MG) and glycine (Gly) in phosphate buffer solution (pH = 6.86). RhB@ZrT-1-OH as a ratiometric fluorescence probe was applied to detect MG with a low LOD of 0.2879 μM and presented obvious fluorescence visual changes from orange to purple to blue under 254 nm UV-vis lamp. Moreover, RhB@ZrT-1-OH also can be utilized as a "turn-on" fluorescence sensor to recognize Gly with a low LOD of 0.3747 μM and exhibits fluorescence color changes from orange to pink to purple. Notably, the corresponding test papers for sensing MG and Gly were designed for recognize the concentration of MG and Gly. Furthermore, the dual-emission fluorescence sensor can be used to detect MG and Gly in fish and human serum with high sensitivity and reliable. The possible detecting mechanisms of RhB@ZrT-1-OH for sensing MG and Gly were detailedly explored.

Abstract
A new polydentate tetracarboxylic acid with a benzothiadiazole unit (4',4'''-(benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole-4,7-diyl)bis([1,1'-biphenyl]-3,5-dicarboxylic acid), H4BTDBA) has been used to prepare a pH-stable three-dimensional TbIII-based metal-organic framework (MOF) with the formula {[(CH3)2NH2]0.7[Tb2(BTDBA)1.5(lac)0.7(H2O)2]·solvents}n (Hlac = lactic acid, JXUST-19). JXUST-19 exhibits a new (4,4,12)-connected topology based on tetranuclear [Tb4] clusters. JXUST-19 can remain stable when soaked in water for at least 1 week and in aqueous solutions with various pH values (2-12) for 24 h. Fluorescence study indicates JXUST-19 can be employed as a rare turn-on and blue-shift MOF sensor toward benzaldehyde (BZ) and salicylaldehyde (SA). To date, JXUST-19 represents the first TbIII-based turn-on MOF sensor toward salicylaldehyde in aqueous solution, and the fluorescence enhancement and naked-eye detection of BZ have been rarely reported. In addition, JXUST-19 based fluorescent test papers, light-emitting diode lamp beads, and portable composite films were developed to realize naked-eye detection of BZ and SA, which has great potential in practical applications.

Abstract
Persistent organic pollutants in water are not only a potential threat to human health, but also cause damage to the ecological environment. Hence, the removal of large organic pollutants from wastewater is of great importance for environmental protection. Herein, hierarchical-pore UiO-66-NH2 xerogels (H-UiO-66-NH2 xerogels) with different mesopore size, H-UiO-66-NH2-11.6 nm and H-UiO-66-NH2-3.7 nm, were successfully synthesized by combining sol-gel-based method and acid modulator, featuring the characteristics of simple operation, rapid and scalable process, low cost, and the high space-time yield (STY). N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms reveal that the obtained H-UiO-66-NH2 xerogels possess high surface area, hierarchical-pore structures, large pore volume, and turntable mesopore size. Batch adsorption experiments demonstrate that H-UiO-66-NH2-11.6 nm has excellent adsorption performance for reactive red 195 (RR 195) dye removal. The maximum adsorption capacity of H-UiO-66-NH2-11.6 nm is 884.96 mg g-1, which is 4.7 times of the microporous UiO-66-NH2 (185.15 mg g-1). Moreover, the removal efficiency of H-UiO-66-NH2-11.6 nm for RR 195 can exceed 99 %. The adsorption mechanism reveals that the excellent RR 195 capture stems from the large mesoporous structure and abundant adsorption sites provided by the Zr cluster and -NH2 groups in H-UiO-66-NH2-11.6 nm. Besides, H-UiO-66-NH2-11.6 nm also exhibits a much larger adsorption capacity for some other organic pollutants, such as tetracycline, reactive black 5, and amoxicillin, demonstrating that the H-UiO-66-NH2 xerogel has great potential for organic pollutant removal.

Abstract
As an important biomarker in urine, the level of uric acid is of importance for human health. In this work, a Cu(II) functionalized metal–organic framework (Cu2+@Tb-MOFs) is designed and developed as a novel fluorescence probe for wide-range uric acid detection in human urine. The study shows that this fluorescence platform demonstrated excellent pH-independent stability, high water tolerance, and good thermal stability. Based on the strong interaction between metal ions and uric acid, the designed Cu2+@Tb-MOFs can be employed as efficient turn-on fluorescent probes for the detection of uric acid with wide detection range (0~104 µM) and high sensitivity (LOD = 0.65 µM). This probe also demonstrates an anti-interference property, as other species coexisted, and the possibility for recycling. The sensing mechanisms are further discussed at length. More importantly, we experimentally constructed a molecular logic gate operation based on this fluorescence probe for intelligent detection of uric acid. These results suggest the Cu(II) functionalized metal–organic framework can act as a prominent candidate for personalized monitoring of the concentration of uric acid in the human urine system.

Abstract
Doxorubicin (DOX) is an anthraquinone drug used for the efficient treatment of a variety of tumors in human beings. Unfortunately, its poor biodegradability causes incomplete metabolism in the body. Therefore, it is of great significance to synthesize a sensitive and selective material for DOX detection. In this paper, we report a water-soluble Tb12 cluster and track its step-by-step formation (L → Tb1L1 → Tb2L1 → Tb2L2 → Tb3L2 → Tb4L2 → Tb12L6). Tb12 can be used to determine the presence of DOX, which quenches the luminescence of the Tb12 aqueous solution, and the detection limit can reach 13 nM (KSV = 8.7 × 105 M-1). Tb12 has advantages of high sensitivity and high selectivity for the detection of DOX in a simulated environment of human urine and serum.

Abstract
Malachite green (MG) is an organic dye compound that is frequently used as a fungicide and antiseptic in aquaculture. However, human or animal exposure to MG causes carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects. Herein, a novel fluorescent assay was designed for the detection of MG using manganese dioxide nanosheets (MnO2 NS) as an energy acceptor to quench the fluorescence of branched poly(ethylenimine) carbon dots (BPEI-CDs) via Förster resonance energy transfer. When butyrylcholinesterase is introduced to form thiocholine in the presence of S-butyrylthiocholine iodide, MnO2 NS can be recovered by thiocholine to Mn2+, resulting in restoration of the fluorescence of BPEI-CDs. Exploiting these changes in fluorescence intensity in the above system, a fluorescence probe was successfully developed for the quantitative detection of MG. Besides, this assay was applied to fish samples, verifying the high potential for practical application of the proposed sensor for the monitoring of MG in aquatic products.

Abstract
Two Zn-MOFs, namely, {[Zn(L)0.5(bpea)]·0.5H2O·0.5DMF}n [LCU-113 (for Liaocheng University)] and {[Zn(L)0.5(ibpt)]·H2O·DMF}n (LCU-114), were synthesized based on flexible tetracarboxylic acid 1,3-bis(3,5-dicarboxyphenoxy)benzene (H4L) and different N-ligands [bpea = 1,2-dipyridyl ethane; ibpt = 3-(4'-imidazolobenzene)-5-(pyridine-4'-yl)-1,2,4-triazole]. LCU-113 and LCU-114 possess twofold interpenetrating three-dimensional pillared layer structures, in which a two-dimensional layer formed by carboxylic acid and Zn2+ ions was pillared by bpea and ibpt, respectively. The two complexes show high water stability and high luminescence sensing performance toward organic solvents, ions, and antibiotics, as well as chemicals, in simulated urine. The investigation showed that (1) LCU-113 and LCU-114 could detect uric acid (UA, 2,6,8-trihydroxypurine, metabolite of purine) and p-aminophenol (PAP, biomarker of phenamine) in simulated urine by luminescence quenching, respectively, and (2) luminescence quenching of LCU-113 and LCU-114 occurred in aqueous solutions of nitrofurazone (NZF), Fe3+, and CrO42-/Cr2O72-. All the above detections have excellent anti-interference ability and recyclability. The luminescence mechanism analysis indicates that weak interactions between the framework structures and the target analytes as well as the energy competition (inner filter effect) play an important role in sensing the above analytes. The practical application for monitoring NZF/Fe3+ in water samples was also tested.

Abstract
As a main extracellular metabolite of dopamine, 3-methoxytyramine (3-MT) is considered a potential biomarker of pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas. Therefore, the determination of 3-MT is of great significance in the early diagnosis of disease. However, it remains challenging for detecting 3-MT in consideration of sensitivity and accuracy. Here, a luminescent Eu3+ functionalized metal-organic frameworks (Eu3+@Al-MOF)with ultra-high chemical stability was constructed based on postsynthetic modification. Such a rational design greatly enhances the fluorescence signal of Eu3+@Al-MOF and it is endowed with excellent properties as a luminescent sensor to detect 3-MT in urine system. Intriguingly, the strong red emitting derived from antenna effect was significantly interdicted upon addition of 3-MT through the interaction between 3-MT and the ligand. The proposed sensing system exhibited many appealing analytical performances, such as excellent selectivity, high sensitivity and quick response. Remarkably, the developed paper-based sensor not only provides a portable and reliable strategy for direct detection of 3-MT but also expands the application of visual analysis tools. This work represents the first effort in designing a luminescent sensor to determine the metabolite biomarker 3-MT level and provides a new method for biomedical analysis.

Abstract
A novel europium-centered metal-organic framework fabricated from a symmetric and rigid ligand with tetracarboxylate groups, 2,6-di(2',5'-dicarboxylphenyl)pyridine (H4ddpp), has been synthesized solvothermally. Characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, compound 1 features a 3D microporous structure with a butterfly-shaped trinuclear Eu3(COO)6 secondary building unit. Interestingly, three kinds of 1D open channels viewed in different directions in compound 1 are discovered, and the void ratio is calculated to be 47.5% by PLATON software. Solid-state luminescent experiments at 298 K reveal that compound 1 displays naked-eye characteristic red emission of Eu3+ ions monitoring the typical 5D0 → 7F2 transition. The exploration of luminescent sensing tests discloses that compound 1 has an outstanding capacity for recognizing urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (1-HP) with a quite fast response and high sensitivity, giving the quenching efficiency of 98.2% after the immersion time for just 1 min and 73.2% with the amount of 1-HP only 0.05 mg/mL. To our knowledge, it is the first reported Eu-MOF as an extremely fast-responsive and highly sensitive luminescent sensor for 1-HP which is interference-free from other urinary components. Furthermore, the successful preparation of the luminescent test papers makes compound 1 convenient, easy, and real-time in the application for sensing 1-HP in biomedical and biological fields.

Abstract
It remains a challenge to exploit dual-functional metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for applications, including luminescence detection and proton conduction. With the deliberate selection of the bifunctional organic ligand 5-sulfoisophthalic acid monosodium salt (NaH2bts), and the phosphonic acid ligand N,N'-piperazine (bismethylenephosphonic acid; H4L), a robust three-dimensional (3D) noninterpenetrating dual-functional MOF, [Tb(H2L)(H2bts)(H2O)]·H2O (1), has been synthesized hydrothermally. On the basis of the excellent thermal and chemical as well as superior luminescence stabilities in water and solutions with different pHs, 1 can serve as the simple, rapid, and highly selective and sensitive luminescence detection of the carcinoid biomarkers 5-hydroxytryptamine (HT) and its metabolite 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (HIAA) with detection limits of nanomolar magnitude in water and in simulated blood plasma and urine systems. Due to the change in the signals that could be readily differentiated by the naked eye under a UV lamp, a portable test paper has been developed. The probable quenching mechanisms are discussed in detail. In addition, a great number of hydrogen-bonding networks are formed among the uncoordinated carboxylic oxygen atoms, sulfonate oxygen atoms, protonated nitrogen atoms, and water molecules, which provide potential proton-hopping sites for proton conduction, leading to a maximum proton conductivity of 2.3 × 10-4 S cm-1 at 368 K and 95% relative humidity. The above results suggest that rationally designed dual-functional MOFs can open an avenue for the development of occupational diagnostic tools and alternative energy technology.

Abstract
A dual-emissive optical material as a ratiometric fluorescent probe has been demonstrated to be remarkably superior in precise and quantitative analyses. Herein, a novel dual-emissive fluorescent probe Eu-BDC-OH was designed and successfully synthesized using Eu3+ and 2-hydroxyterephthalic acid (H2BDC-OH) at room temperature. Eu-BDC-OH has a three-dimensional interpenetrating network structure with a large number of exposed hydroxyl functional groups, providing abundant active sites for molecular recognition. In particular, the as-obtained Eu-BDC-OH serves as a unique fluorescent probe, and the double emission peaks of both the ligand and Eu3+ are completely quenched by Fe3+. However, it is worth noting that the dual emissions of Eu-BDC-OH enable the ratiometric detection of Fe2+, which leads to an increase in ligand emission and a decrease in Eu3+ emission, accompanied by a distinct red to blue color transition. The relative fluorescence intensity ratio (I618 nm/I433 nm) decreased linearly with increasing Fe2+ concentration in the 0-50 μM range with a superior detection limit of 0.32 μM. In this work, a fluorescent probe based on a MOF was developed for the recognition of Fe2+ and Fe3+, providing a promising strategy for the synthesis of novel dual-emission materials by integrating suitable luminescent ligands with lanthanide metal ions.
