Abstract
While hexaphenylsilacyclopentadiene (hexaphenylsilole) is viewed as an archetypal Aggregation-Induced Emission (AIE) luminogen, its isostructural hydrocarbon surrogate hexaphenylcyclopentadiene has strikingly never been investigated in this context, most probably due to a lack of synthetic availability. Herein, we report a straightforward synthesis of hexaphenylcyclopentadiene, via the direct perarylation of cyclopentadiene upon copper(i) catalysis under microwave activation, with the formation of six new C-C bonds in a single synthetic operation. Using zirconocene dichloride as a convenient source of cyclopentadiene and a variety of aryl iodides as coupling partners, this copper-catalysed cross-coupling reaction gave rise to a series of unprecedented hexaarylcyclopentadienes. The latter are direct precursors of extended π-conjugated polycyclic compounds, and their cyclodehydrogenation under Scholl reaction conditions yielded helicenic 17,17-diarylcyclopenta[l,l']diphenanthrenes. These structurally complex polyannelated fluorene derivatives can now be prepared in only two synthetic steps from cyclopentadiene.

Abstract
A one-pot reaction starting with C5Ph5Br, n-BuLi and [CoCl(PPh3)3] followed by the addition of diphenylethyne produces the title compound with 12% yield. Spectroscopic characterization involved 1H, 13C-NMR, UV-Vis and mass spectrometry. A crystal structure determination showed that the central aromatic rings are exactly parallel with the cyclobutadiene ring further apart from the metal as usual. The pentaphenyl–cyclopentadienyl ligand shows an usual paddlewheel orientation, whereas in the tetraphenyl–cyclobutadiene ligand, two of the phenyl groups are nearly coplanar with the four-membered ring. There are also numerous C–H…C(π) interactions between the phenyl groups on the same ring, as well as between rings.

Abstract

The modification
of cyclopentadienyl ligands with carefully selected
substituents is a widely used strategy for tuning their steric
and electronic properties. We describe the synthesis of an extremely
bulky penta-terphenyl cyclopentadienyl ligand (CpT5) by
arylation of cyclopentadiene. Deprotonation reactions with various
group 1 metals and bases afforded a complete series of alkali metal
salts MCpT5 (M = Li–Cs). The compounds were isolated
as solvate-free salts, which were characterized by multinuclear nuclear
magnetic resonance spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy,
and elemental analysis. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies of
LiCpT5, NaCpT5 (crystallized as a solvate with
one tetrahydrofuran molecule per formula unit), and KCpT5 revealed the formation of metallocene-like sandwich structures in
the solid state.

Abstract
The chemistry of polyphosphorus cations has rapidly developed in recent years, but their coordination behavior has remained mostly unexplored. Herein, we describe the reactivity of [P5 R2 ]+ cations with cyclopentadienyl metal complexes. The reaction of [CpAr Fe(μ-Br)]2 (CpAr =C5 (C6 H4 -4-Et)5 ) with [P5 R2 ][GaCl4 ] (R=iPr and 2,4,6-Me3 C6 H2 (Mes)) afforded bicyclo[1.1.0]pentaphosphanes (1-R, R=iPr and Mes), showing an unsymmetric "butterfly" structure. The same products 1-R were formed from K[CpAr ] and [P5 R2 ][GaCl4 ]. The cationic complexes [CpAr Co(η4 -P5 R2 )][GaCl4 ] (2-R[GaCl4 ], R=iPr and Cy) and [(CpAr Ni)2 (η3:3 -P5 R2 )][GaCl4 ] (3-R[GaCl4 ]) were obtained from [P5 R2 ][GaCl4 ] and [CpAr M(μ-Br)]2 (M=Co and Ni) as well as by using low-valent "CpAr MI " sources. Anion metathesis of 2-R[GaCl4 ] and 3-R[GaCl4 ] was achieved with Na[BArF24 ]. The P5 framework of the resulting salts 2-R[BArF24 ] can be further functionalized with nucleophiles. Thus reactions with [Et4 N]X (X=CN and Cl) give unprecedented cyano- and chloro-functionalized complexes, while organo-functionalization was achieved with CyMgCl.

Abstract
A boratriazine ligand, which incorporates attractive features from both bodipy and terpy, has been used to synthesize [Fe2II(μ1,1-N3)2(Py2F2BTA)2(N3)2] (1) and [Co2II(μ1,1-N3)2(Py2F2BTA)2(N3)2] (2). Both 1 and 2 feature a double end-on azido bridging motif, which promotes ferromagnetic interactions between the metal centres. Indeed, 1 represents the first report of a dinuclear FeII complex with this bridging mode exhibiting J = 5.7(9) cm-1 and D = -6.0(4) cm-1, while the isostructural Co analogue shows J = 7.1(9) cm-1 and D = 17.3(9) cm-1.

Abstract
Reduction of [CpArFe(μ-Br)]2 (1, CpAr = C5(C6H4-4-Et)5) by potassium napthalenide, followed by the addition of white phosphorus, affords [K(18-c-6){CpArFe(η4-P4)}] (2, 18-c-6 = [18]crown-6), which features a planar cyclo-P42- ligand. The related diiron complex [Na2(THF)5(CpArFe)2(μ,η4:4-P4)] (3) was obtained by reducing 1 with sodium amalgam in the presence of P4. Protonation of 3 affords [Na(THF)3][(CpArFe)2(μ,η4:4-P4)(H)] (4), while the reaction of 3 with trimethylchlorosilane gives the nortricyclane compound P7(SiMe3)3 as the main product.
