Abstract
Electrodes and electroactive materials are crucial components in the development of supercapacitors due to their geometric properties. In this study, bimetal-organic frameworks (Bi-MOFs, ZIF-8@ZIF-67) were utilized as electrode materials for a high-performance hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) by designing a novel synthesis of metallic carbonate hydroxide/oxides. In particular, the Bi-MOFs function as a sacrificial precursor in the synthesis of hollow NiMn(CO3)0.5·0·.11H2O/ZnO@Co3O4 CNCs (NM-CH/ZnO@Co3O4 CNCs) cubic composite materials by a straightforward low-temperature treatment. The NM-CH/ZnO@Co3O4 CNCs exhibited exceptional electrochemical performance with high specific capacity of 196.3 ± 0.08 mAh/g, specific capacitance of 1179 ± 0.10 F g-1 at 0.5 A g-1, and outstanding cycling stability of 98% after 25,000 cycles compared to the other electrode materials. The porous and hollow structure, along with a large surface area, contributed to the enhanced electrochemical properties of the composite material. An HSC was constructed using NM-CH/ZnO@Co3O4 CNCs as the cathode and activated porous carbon (APC) as the anode, resulting in a device with a specific energy of 33 ± 0.12 Wh kg-1 and a power density of 19354 ± 0.07 W kg-1. The use of Bi-MOF electrodes presents new avenues for the development of high-performance energy storage materials, with the potential for industrial energy storage application demonstrated though the successful powering of portable lightbulbs.

Abstract
Ni single atom containing hollow carbon nanospheres with nitrogen doping has been synthesized by carbonization of Ni(NO3)2/phloroglucinol-formaldehyde polymer/silica composite. The samples have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, electron microscopic, Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic studies. The microstructure and surface area vary with the amount of Ni(NO3)2 employed in the syntheses and the carbonization environment. An optimized amount of nickel and argon as the carbonization gas afford Ni-1.0@N@HCN-Ar which possesses overall superior features. The uniformly dispersed Ni single atoms within the hollow porous carbon framework fully utilize all the electroactive sites thereby improving the supercapacitive performance. The specific capacitance of Ni-1.0@N@HCN-Ar reaches 777 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 with a Coulombic efficiency of 98.4 % and excellent recyclability. The energy and power density of Ni-1.0@N@HCN-Ar are found to be high; at 1 A g-1 its energy density is 155.4 Wh kg-1 with a power density of 600.3 W kg-1. At a high current density of 10 A g-1 the material shows a high energy density of 118.4 Wh kg-1 with excellent power density of 6003.4 W kg-1. A symmetric solid-state supercapacitor assembled with this material, Ni-1.0@N@HCN-Ar//Ni-1.0@N@HCN-Ar using H2SO4/PVA gel electrolyte shows a superior energy density value of 30 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 1200 W kg-1.

Abstract
Developing fabric-based strain sensors with high sensitivity and stability is in high demand for wearable electronics. Herein, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and polypyrrole (PPy) are coated on a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fabric as strain sensors. A microbridge structure, in which CNT bridges the stretching-induced cracks, has been designed for the TPU-CNT-PPy strain sensor. The microbridge structure can significantly enhance the electrical resilience, ensuring the improved sensitivity and stability of strain sensors. As a result, our TPU-CNT-PPy strain sensors deliver high sensitivity (GF = 231.5) with a broad working range (150%) and fast response and recovery time (166/195 ms). In addition, our TPU-CNT-PPy could also be used as flexible electrodes of the microsupercapacitors (MSCs) as a power supplier for the integrated sensing system. The TPU-CNT-PPy-based MSCs exhibit a high specific capacitance (460.3 mF cm-2 at 0.5 mA cm-2) and excellent cycling stability (96.69% capacitance retention for 10,000 charge/discharge cycles). Finally, we demonstrated an integrated sensing system using TPU-CNT-PPy as both MSCs and strain sensors, where the current signals of the sensors could be well detected via Bluetooth. This study offers a microbridge strategy to fabricate strain sensors with high sensitivity and stability and develops an integrated sensing system for the actual applications of wearable electronics.

Abstract
Central and peripheral nervous system (CNS/PNS) proteoglycans (PGs) have diverse functional roles, this study examined how these control cellular behavior and tissue function. The CNS/PNS extracellular matrix (ECM) is a dynamic, responsive, highly interactive, space-filling, cell supportive, stabilizing structure maintaining tissue compartments, ionic microenvironments, and microgradients that regulate neuronal activity and maintain the neuron in an optimal ionic microenvironment. The CNS/PNS contains a high glycosaminoglycan content (60% hyaluronan, HA) and a diverse range of stabilizing PGs. Immobilization of HA in brain tissues by HA interactive hyalectan PGs preserves tissue hydration and neuronal activity, a paucity of HA in brain tissues results in a pro-convulsant epileptic phenotype. Diverse CS, KS, and HSPGs stabilize the blood-brain barrier and neurovascular unit, provide smart gel neurotransmitter neuron vesicle storage and delivery, organize the neuromuscular junction basement membrane, and provide motor neuron synaptic plasticity, and photoreceptor and neuron synaptic functions. PG-HA networks maintain ionic fluxes and microgradients and tissue compartments that contribute to membrane polarization dynamics essential to neuronal activation and neurotransduction. Hyalectans form neuroprotective perineuronal nets contributing to synaptic plasticity, memory, and cognitive learning. Sialoglycoprotein associated with cones and rods (SPACRCAN), an HA binding CSPG, stabilizes the inter-photoreceptor ECM. HSPGs pikachurin and eyes shut stabilize the photoreceptor synapse aiding in phototransduction and neurotransduction with retinal bipolar neurons crucial to visual acuity. This is achieved through Laminin G motifs in pikachurin, eyes shut, and neurexins that interact with the dystroglycan-cytoskeleton-ECM-stabilizing synaptic interconnections, neuronal interactive specificity, and co-ordination of regulatory action potentials in neural networks.

Abstract
A novel portable smartphone-assisted colorimetric method was reported for the determination of Hg2+ with good analytical performance. A Zr(IV)-based metal-organic framework functionalized with amino groups (NH2-UiO-66) has been adopted as a supporting platform to anchor gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), avoiding the migration and aggregation of AuNPs. With the addition of Hg2+, the formation of gold amalgam proved possible to enhance peroxidase-like activity of the composite (AuNPs/NH2-UiO-66), accelerating the oxidization of zymolyte 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). In the meantime, the color of the reaction solution turned a vivid blue, and the red, green, and blue (RGB) values of the solution color changed accordingly. On account of this strategy, the quantitative detection of Hg2+ could be achieved. After the optimization of the experiment conditions, the average color intensity (Ic) resulting from RGB values was linear related to the concentration of Hg2+ from 10 to 100 nM, accompanied with a detection limit (LOD) down to 5.4 nM calculated by 3σ/S. The successful application of the designed method has been promoted to detect Hg2+ in some water samples, displaying a great potential in practical application. Furthermore, the use of a smartphone made our proposed method simple and accurate, and thus puts forward a possible way for in situ and real-time monitoring.

Abstract
The design of well-defined hierarchical free-standing electrodes for robust high-performance energy storage is challenging. We report herein that azo-linkage redox metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) incorporate single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as flexible electrodes. The in situ-guided growth, crystallinity and morphology of UiO-66-NO2 MOFs were finely controlled in the presence of CNTs. The MOFs' covalent anchoring to CNTs and solvothermal grafting anthraquinone (AQ) pendants endow the hybrid (denoted as CNT@UiO-66-AQ) with greatly improved conductivity, charge storage pathways and electrochemical dynamics. The flexible CNT@UiO-66-AQ displays a highest areal specific capacitance of 302.3 mF cm-2 (at 1 mA cm-2) in -0.4~0.9 V potential window, together with 100% capacitance retention over 5000 cycles at 5 mA cm-2. Its assembled symmetrical supercapacitor (SSC) achieves a maximum energy density of 0.037 mWh cm-2 and a maximum power density of 10.4 mW cm-2, outperforming many MOFs-hybrids-based SSCs in the literature. Our work may open a new avenue for preparing azo-coupled redox MOFs hybrids with carbaneous substrates for high-performance robust aqueous energy storage.

Abstract
With the urgent demand for the achievement of carbon neutrality, novel nanomaterials, and environmentally friendly nanotechnologies are constantly being explored and continue to drive the sustainable development of energy storage and conversion installations. Among various candidate materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and their derivatives with unique nanostructures have attracted increasing attention and intensive investigation for the construction of next generation electrode materials, benefitting from their unique intrinsic characteristics such as large specific surface area, high porosity, and chemical tunability as well as the interconnected channels. Nevertheless, the poor electrochemical conductivity severely limits their application prospects, hence a variety of nanocomposites with multifarious structures have been designed and proposed from different dimensionalities. In this review, recent advances based on MOFs and their derivatives in different dimensionalities ranging from 1D nanopowders to 2D nanofilms and 3D aerogels, as well as 4D self-supporting electrodes for supercapacitors are summarized and highlighted. Furthermore, the key challenges and perspectives of MOFs and their derivatives-based materials for the practical and sustainable electrochemical energy conversion and storage applications are also briefly discussed, which may be served as a guideline for the design of next-generation electrode materials from different dimensionalities.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with hierarchical porous structures have been attracting intense interest currently due to their promising applications in catalysis, energy storage, drug delivery, and photocatalysis. Current fabrication methods usually employ template-assisted synthesis or thermal annealing at high temperatures. However, large-scale production of hierarchical porous metal-organic framework (MOF) particles with a simple procedure and mild condition is still a challenge, which hampers their application. To address this issue, we proposed a gelation-based production method and achieved hierarchical porous zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (called HP-ZIF67-G thereafter) particles conveniently. This method is based on a metal-organic gelation process through a mechanically stimulated wet chemical reaction of metal ions and ligands. The interior of the gel system is composed of small nano and submicron ZIF-67 particles as well as the employed solvent. The relatively large pore size of the graded pore channels spontaneously formed during the growth process is conducive to the increased transfer rate of substances within the particles. It is proposed that the Brownian motion amplitude of the solute is greatly reduced in the gel state, which leads to porous defects inside the nanoparticles. Furthermore, HP-ZIF67-G nanoparticles interwoven with polyaniline (PANI) exhibited an exceptional electrochemical charge storage performance with an areal capacitance of 2500 mF cm-2, surpassing those of many MOF materials. This stimulates new studies on MOF-based gel systems to obtain hierarchical porous metal-organic frameworks which should benefit further applications in a wide spectrum of fields ranging from fundamental research to industrial applications.

Abstract
Fiber-shaped supercapacitor (FSSC) is considered as a promising energy storage device for wearable electronics due to its high power density and outstanding safety. However, it is still a great challenge to simultaneously achieve high specific capacitance especially at rapid charging/discharging rate and long-term cycling stability of fiber electrode in FSSC for practical application. Here, a ternary poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)/reduced graphene oxide/polypyrrole (PEDOT:PSS/rGO/PPy) fiber electrode was constructed by in situ chemical polymerization of pyrrole on hydrothermally-assembled and acid-treated PEDOT:PSS/rGO (PG) hybrid hydrogel fiber. In this case, the porous PG hybrid fiber framework possesses combined advantages of highly-conductive PEDOT and flexible two-dimensional (2D) small-sized rGO sheets, which provides large surface area for the deposition of high-pseudocapacitance PPy, multiscale electrons/ions transport channels for the efficient utilization of active sites, and buffering layers to accommodate the structure change during electrochemical process. Attributed to the synergy, as-obtained ternary fiber electrode presents ultrahigh volumetric/areal specific capacitance (389 F cm-3 at 1 A cm-3 or 983 mF cm-2 at 2.5 mA cm-2) and outstanding rate performance (56 %, 1-20 A cm-3). In addition, 80 % preservation of initial capacitance after 8000 cycles for the corresponding FSSC also illustrates its greatly improved cycle stability compared with 64 % of binary PEDOT:PSS/PPy based counterpart. Accordingly, here proposed strategy promises a new opportunity to develop high-activity and durable electrode materials with potential applications in supercapacitor and beyond.

Abstract
Electronic textiles (e-textiles) hold great promise for serving as next-generation wearable electronics owing to their inherent flexible, air-permeable, and lightweight characteristics. However, these e-textiles are of limited performance mainly because of lacking powerful materials combination. Herein, a versatile e-textile through a simple, high-efficiency mixed-dimensional assembly of 2D MXene nanosheets and 1D silver nanowires (AgNWs) are presented. The effective complementary actions of MXene and AgNWs endow the e-textiles with superior integrated performances including self-powered pressure sensing, ultrafast joule heating, and highly efficient electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. The textile-based self-powered smart sensor systems obtained through the screen-printed assembly of MXene-based supercapacitor and pressure sensor are flexible and lightweight, showing ultrahigh specific capacitance (2390 mF cm-2 ), robust areal energy density (119.5 µWh cm-2 ), excellent sensitivity (474.8 kPa-1 ), and low detection limit (1 Pa). Furthermore, the interconnected conductive MXene/AgNWs network enables the e-textile with ultrafast temperature response (10.4 °C s-1 ) and outstanding EMI shielding effectiveness of ≈66.4 dB. Therefore, the proposed mixed-dimensional assembly design creates a multifunctional e-textile that offers a practical paradigm for next-generation smart flexible electronics.

Abstract
The preparation of electroactive metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for applications of supercapacitors and batteries has received much attention and remarkable progress during the past few years. MOF-based materials including pristine MOFs, hybrid MOFs or MOF composites, and MOF derivatives are well designed by a combination of organic linkers (e.g., carboxylic acids, conjugated aromatic phenols/thiols, conjugated aromatic amines, and N-heterocyclic donors) and metal salts to construct predictable structures with appropriate properties. This review will focus on construction strategies of pristine MOFs and hybrid MOFs as anodes, cathodes, separators, and electrolytes in supercapacitors and batteries. Descriptions and discussions follow categories of electrochemical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), pseudocapacitors (PSCs), and hybrid supercapacitors (HSCs) for supercapacitors. In contrast, Li-ion batteries (LIBs), Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs), Lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs), Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), Sodium-sulfur batteries (SSBs), Zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs), Zinc-air batteries (ZABs), Aluminum-sulfur batteries (ASBs), and others (e.g., LiSe, NiZn, H+ , alkaline, organic, and redox flow batteries) are categorized for batteries.

Abstract
MXene is a type of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal carbide and nitride, and its promising energy storage materials highlight its characteristics of high density, high metal-like conductivity, tunable terminals, and charge storage mechanisms known as pseudo-alternative capacitance. MXenes are a class of 2D materials synthesized by chemical etching of the A element in MAX phases. Since they were first discovered more than 10 years ago, the number of distinct MXenes has grown substantially to include numerous MnXn-1 (n = 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5), solid solutions (ordered and disordered), and vacancy solids. To date, MXenes used in energy storage system applications have been broadly synthesized, and this paper summarizes the current developments, successes, and challenges of using MXenes in supercapacitors. This paper also reports the synthesis approaches, various compositional issues, material and electrode topology, chemistry, and hybridization of MXene with other active materials. The present study also summarizes MXene's electrochemical properties, applicability in pliant-structured electrodes, and energy storage capabilities when using aqueous/non-aqueous electrolytes. Finally, we conclude by discussing how to reshape the face of the latest MXene and what to consider when designing the next generation of MXene-based capacitors and supercapacitors.

Abstract
Integration of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and flexible fabrics has been recently considered as a promising strategy applied in wearable electronic devices. We synthesized a flexible fabric-based Cu-HHTP film consisted of Cu2+ ions and 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP) via a self-sacrificial template method. The obtained Cu-HHTP film displays an outstanding nanostructured surface and uniformity. Iodine molecules are first introduced into the pores of Cu-HHTP to investigate the influence of guest molecules on electrical conductivity in a 2D guest-host system. After doping, the conductivity of the Cu-HHTP film shows an increased dependent on the doping time, and the maximum value is more than 30 times that of the original MOFs. The enhanced electrical conductivity results from an intriguing redox interaction occurred between the confined iodine molecules and the framework. The organic ligands are oxidized by iodine molecules, and generating new ions allows for subsequent participation in the regulation of the mixed valence bands of copper ions in MOFs, changing the ratio of Cu2+/Cu+, promoting the charge transport of the framework, and then synergistically enhancing the electronic conductivity. This study successfully prepared a flexible fabric-based conductive I2@Cu-HHTP film and presented insights into revealing the behavior of iodine molecules after entering the Cu-HHTP pores, expanding the possibilities of Cu-HHTP used in flexible wearable electronics.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), known as porous coordination polymers, have attracted intense interest as electrode materials for supercapacitors (SCs) owing to their advantageous features including high surface area, tunable porous structure, structural diversity, etc. However, the insulating nature of most MOFs has impeded their further electrochemical applications. A common solution for this issue is to transform pristine MOFs into more stable and conductive metal compounds/porous carbon materials through pyrolysis, which however losses the inherent merits of MOFs. To find a consummate solution, recently a surge of research devoted to improving the electrical conductivity of pristine MOFs for SCs has been carried out. In this review, the most related research work on pristine MOF-based materials is reviewed and three effective strategies (chemical structure design of conductive MOFs (c-MOFs), composite design, and binder-free structure design) which can significantly increase their conductivity and consequently the electrochemical performance in SCs are proposed. The conductivity enhancement mechanism in each approach is well analyzed. The representative research works on using pristine MOFs for SCs are also critically discussed. It is hoped that the new insights can provide guidance for developing high-performance electrode materials based on pristine MOFs with high conductivity for SCs in the future.

Abstract
Metal-organic framework (MOF) composites are considered to be one of the most vital energy storage materials due to their advantages of high porousness, multifunction, various structures and controllable chemical compositions, which provide a great possibility to find suitable electrode materials for batteries and supercapacitors. However, MOF composites are still in the face of various challenges and difficulties that hinder their practical application. In this review, we introduce and summarize the applications of MOF composites in batteries, covering metal-ion batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, lithium-oxygen batteries and zinc-air batteries, as well as supercapacitors. In addition, the application challenges of MOF composites in batteries and supercapacitors are also summarized. Finally, the basic ideas and directions for further development of these two types of electrochemical energy storage devices are proposed.

Abstract
Smart supercapacitors are a promising energy storage solution due to their high power density, long cycle life, and low-maintenance requirements. Functional polymers (FPs) and inorganic nanomaterials are used in smart supercapacitors because of the favorable mechanical properties (flexibility and stretchability) of FPs and the energy storage properties of inorganic materials. The complementary properties of these materials facilitate commercial applications of smart supercapacitors in flexible smart wearables, displays, and self-generation, as well as energy storage. Here, an overview of strategies for the development of suitable materials for smart supercapacitors is presented, based on recent literature reports. A range of synthetic techniques are discussed and it is concluded that a combination of organic and inorganic hybrid materials is the best option for realizing smart supercapacitors. This perspective facilitates new strategies for the synthesis of hybrid materials, and the development of material technologies for smart energy storage applications.

Abstract
Nanoporous polymers are becoming increasingly interesting materials for electrochemical applications, as their large surface areas with redox-active sites allow efficient adsorption and diffusion of ions. However, their limited electrical conductivity remains a major obstacle in practical applications. The conventional approach that alleviates this problem is the hybridisation of the polymer with carbon-based additives, but this directly prevents the utilisation of the maximum capacity of the polymers. Here, we report a layer-by-layer fabrication technique where we separated the active (porous polymer, top) layer and the conductive (carbon, bottom) layer and used these “layered” electrodes in a supercapacitor (SC). Through this approach, direct contact with the electrolyte and polymer material is greatly enhanced. With extensive electrochemical characterisation techniques, we show that the layered electrodes allowed a significant contribution of fast faradic surface reactions to the overall capacitance. The electrochemical performance of the layered-electrode SC outperformed other reported porous polymer-based devices with a specific gravimetric capacitance of 388 F·g−1 and an outstanding energy density of 65 Wh·kg−1 at a current density of 0.4 A·g−1. The device also showed outstanding cyclability with 90% of capacitance retention after 5000 cycles at 1.6 A·g−1, comparable to the reported porous polymer-based SCs. Thus, the introduction of a layered electrode structure would pave the way for more effective utilisation of porous organic polymers in future energy storage/harvesting and sensing devices by exploiting their nanoporous architecture and limiting the negative effects of the carbon/binder matrix.

Abstract
The progress on technologies for the cleaner and ecological transformation and storage of energy to combat effluence or pollution and the impending energy dilemma has recently attracted interest from energy research groups, particularly in the field of coordination chemistry, among inorganic chemists. Carriers for storing energy or facilitating mass and e- transport are considered significant for energy conversion. Accordingly, considering their properties such as large surface area, low cost, customizable pore diameter, tunable topologies, low densities, and variable frameworks, MOFs (metal-organic frameworks) and their derivatives are well-suited for this purpose. MOFs are an innovative category of porous and crystalline materials, which have gained significant interest in recent years. Thus, herein, we highlight the state of the art progress on MOFs for energy-based applications, as perfect compounds and elements in compound assemblies for converting solar energy, lithium-ion arrays, fuel devices, hydrogen production, photocatalytic CO2 reduction, proton conduction, etc. In addition, the substantial progress achieved in the production of various composites and derivatives containing MOFs with particular focus on supercapacitors and gas adsorption and storage is summarized, concentrating on the correlation between their coordination structural frameworks and applications in the field of energy. The current improved strategies, challenges, and future prospects are also presented in view of the coordination chemistry governing the structural modification of MOFs for energy applications.

Abstract
Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted widespread attention due to their excellent electrochemical and catalytic properties. In this work, a tungsten (W)-modulated molybdenum selenide (MoSe2)/graphene heterostructure was investigated for application in electrochemistry. MoSe2/graphene heterojunctions with low-doped W compositions were synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal catalysis approach. Based on the conducted density functional theory (DFT) calculations, it was determined that inserting a small amount of W (≈5%) into the MoSe2/graphene heterostructure resulted in the modification of its lattice structure. Additionally, an increase in the distance between layers (≈8%) and a decrease in the adsorption energy of the potassium ions (K+) (≈−1.08 eV) were observed following W doping. Overall, the electrochemical performance of the MoSe2/graphene hybrid was enhanced by the presence of W. An all-solid-state supercapacitor device prepared using electrodes based on the W-doped MoSe2/graphene composite achieved excellent capacitance of 444.4 mF cm−2 at 1 mV s−1. The results obtained herein revealed that the MoSe2/graphene hybrid exhibiting low W composition could be valuable in the field of energy storage and isoelectronic doping of TMDs.

Abstract
Metallic nanostructures (MNs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) play a pivotal role by articulating their significance in high-performance supercapacitors along with conducting polymers (CPs). The interaction and synergistic pseudocapacitive effect of MNs with CPs have contributed to enhance the specific capacitance and cyclic stability. Among various conjugated heterocyclic CPs, polypyrrole (PPy) (prevalently knows as “synthetic metal”) is exclusively studied because of its excellent physicochemical properties, ease of preparation, flexibility in surface modifications, and unique molecular structure–property relationships. Numerous researchers attempted to improve the low electronic conductivity of MNs and MOFs, by incorporating conducting PPy and/or used decoration strategy. This was succeeded by fine-tuning this objective, which managed to get outstanding supercapacitive performances. This brief technical note epitomizes various PPy-based metallic hybrid materials with different nano-architectures, emphasizing its technical implications in fabricating high-performance electrode material for supercapacitor applications.

Abstract
Construction of two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for energy storage and conversion has attracted great attention due to the synergistic advantages of 2D nanostructures and MOFs. Herein, a Co-MOF material with different 2D morphologies of vertical nanoplate arrays and faveolate nanosheets are in-situ fabricated on Ni foam with and without using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a regulator. Toward the application in energy storage, both of two morphologies of the Co-MOF exhibit good electrochemical properties. In particular, the vertical Co-MOF nanoplate arrays deliver a high areal capacity of 8.56 C/cm2 at the current density of 5 mA/cm2, which is much higher than that of faveolate Co-MOF nanosheets (2.39 C/cm2 at 5 mA/cm2). Moreover, a hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) device using the Co-MOF nanoplate arrays positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) negative electrode is assembled, which delivers a volumetric capacitance of 17.9 F/cm3 at 10 mA/cm2, a high energy density of 7.2 mW h cm-3 and a good cyclic stability (retaining over 88.0% of initial capacitance after 3000 cycles). These findings demonstrate that the as-fabricated 2D Co-MOFs possess a huge potential in energy storage.

Abstract
Advancements in the field of flexible and wearable devices require flexible energy storage devices to cater their power demands. Metal-ion batteries (such as lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, etc.) and electrochemical capacitors (also called supercapacitors or ultracapacitors) have achieved great interest in the recent past due to their superior energy storage characteristics like high power density and long cycle life. A major bottleneck of using metal-ion batteries in wearable devices is their lack of flexibility. Low power density, toxicity and flammability due to organic electrolytes inhibit them from safe on-body device applications. On the other hand, supercapacitors can be made with aqueous electrolytes, making them a safer alternative for wearable applications. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are novel candidates as electrode materials due to their salient features such as large surface area, three-dimensional porous architecture, permeability to foreign entities, structural tailorability, etc. Though pristine MOFs suffer from poor intrinsic conductivity, this can be rectified by preparing composites with other electronically conducting materials. MOF-based electrodes are highly promising for flexible and wearable supercapacitors since they exhibit good energy and power densities. This review focuses on the new developments in the field of MOF-based composite electrodes for developing flexible supercapacitors.

Abstract
Owing to their molecular building blocks, yet highly crystalline nature, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) sit at the interface between molecule and material. Their diverse structures and compositions enable them to be useful materials as catalysts in heterogeneous reactions, electrical conductors in energy storage and transfer applications, chromophores in photoenabled chemical transformations, and beyond. In all cases, density functional theory (DFT) and higher-level methods for electronic structure determination provide valuable quantitative information about the electronic properties that underpin the functions of these frameworks. However, there are only two general modeling approaches in conventional electronic structure software packages: those that treat materials as extended, periodic solids, and those that treat materials as discrete molecules. Each approach has features and benefits; both have been widely employed to understand the emergent chemistry that arises from the formation of the metal-organic interface. This Review canvases these approaches to date, with emphasis placed on the application of electronic structure theory to explore reactivity and electron transfer using periodic, molecular, and embedded models. This includes (i) computational chemistry considerations such as how functional, k-grid, and other model variables are selected to enable insights into MOF properties, (ii) extended solid models that treat MOFs as materials rather than molecules, (iii) the mechanics of cluster extraction and subsequent chemistry enabled by these molecular models, (iv) catalytic studies using both solids and clusters thereof, and (v) embedded, mixed-method approaches, which simulate a fraction of the material using one level of theory and the remainder of the material using another dissimilar theoretical implementation.

Abstract
Due to their large specific surface areas and porosity, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have found many applications in catalysis, gas separation, and gas storage. However, their use as electronic components such as supercapacitors is stunted due to their poor electrical conductivity. We report a remedy for this by combining the MOF structure with polypyrrole (PPy), a well-known conductive polymer. Three MOFs are studied for modification to this end: CPO-27-Ni and CPO-27-Co (M2DOBDC, M = Ni2+, Co2+, DOBDC = 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) and HKUST-1 (Cu3(BTC)2, BTC = 1,3,5 benzenetricarboxylate). The gravimetric capacitance of pure MOFs is boosted several orders of magnitude after reinforcement of PPy (e.g., from 0.679 to 185 F g-1 for HKUST-1 and PPy-HKUST-1, respectively), and is much higher than reported for pure PPy. In total, these PPy-d-MOFs exhibit specific capacitances up to 354 F g-1, retaining 70% of this value even after 2500 cycles. Among them, the highest capacitance is found for PPy-CPO-27-Ni (354 F g-1), followed by PPy-CPO-27-Co (263 F g-1) and PPy-HKUST-1 (185 F g-1). The maximum operating potential for these electrodes is 0.5 V, which is restricted by the contact of MOF with aqueous electrolyte and with extremely low PPy content. As a solution, higher PPy loading and rational adjustment of particle size and porosity of both MOF and PPy are recommended so that the MOF/electrolyte interface is limited, leading to more robust electrode. The work completed here describes a highly promising approach to tackling the electrically insulating nature of MOFs, paving the way for their use in electrochemical energy storage devices.

Abstract
An electrochemical immunosensor for highly sensitive detection of cancer biomarkers has been developed based on the combination of a sensing platform of polydopamine modified porous graphene and a nonenzymatic label of metal-organic framework (MOF) conjugated secondary antibody. This approach achieves a wide range of linear response from 0.1 to 10 ng/mL, low detection limit of 0.025 ng/mL (at a signal to noise ratio of 3), good reproducibility and selectivity for the detection of prostate specific antigen (PSA) as a model analyte. The high performance of the immunosensor is attributed to the high surface area from porous graphene and the strong adhesion of polydopamine, allowing a high load of the primary antibody of PSA, as well as the highly electrocatalytic activity of the Cu3(BTC)2 (BTC = benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid) MOF toward H2O2 to provide greatly amplified sensitivity. In this respect, the MOF-based nonenzymatic label shows promising application for the point-of-care detection of different cancer biomarkers in clinical diagnostics.
